Late and great addition

This quest takes place in the post Civil War 1800s on the American frontier. Here you will encounter lawlessness, wilderness, the supernatural, and strange sights no townie would dare believe.

Combat actions will be determined by a 1d100 roll. For example, if you are shooting a gun at someone, rolling 25 or below would result in a miss, 26-50 results in a graze, 51-75 results in a hit, and 76-100 results in a critical hit.

As your character's skill with a gun increases, these will change.

Your enemies will also roll, although they never seem to be as lucky when trying to hit you.

Each post, I will present a number of choices, as well as a write-in options. Creative write-ins will be rewarded!

Remember, the frontier is a dangerous place! Death is very possible in this quest, although your fate may be stranger still.

Let's get weird!
>>
>>40290235
You go through your things to make sure nothing's missing out of habit. Nothing is.

Spending a little time cleaning your gun, you start to smell breakfast.

Oh sweet Jesus in Heaven that smells good.

Walking down the stairs through the bar to a series of tables, you find bacon and eggs laid out for you along with a glass of milk.

This free meal thing was a good idea.

Scarfing it down, you're just about finished when you hear a knock on the door of the saloon.

"Open up Vernon!" you hear, "It's Shultz! I'm collecting for Boss Tull!"

Well, this could get interesting

>Open the door for him

>Go find Vernon
>>
>>40290338

>Open the door for him
"Howdy partner"
>>
>>40290338
Briefly looking around for Vernon, you opt to answer the door yourself.

Unlocking the door and opening it, you put one hand on the sabre at your side and the other on the doorframe, blocking any attempt at entering.

"Howdy, partner," you say.

"Partners," you correct yourself, seeing the two other men behind this one. "Something I can do for you? Bit early to be hitting the Fireball."
>>
>>40290717
Speaking of Fireball... Ima grab some booze.

"We're looking for Vernon. We got business with him," says the one who called himself Shultz.

The other seem to be laughing to themselves about something.

>>

"You wait here. I'll get him for ya," you say as you begin to close the door.

"But indulge me, why does he owe you money? Man seemed like he'd have his teeth pulled by a hot iron before he'd sleep with a prostitute," you add.

Shultz glares to the man directly behind him. The man shakes his head and Shultz replies, "Protection."

At this, you slam the door in their faces, locking it. You leave to find Vernon.

Going into a kitchen area, you find him talking to his wife, who you have not met.

"Just Mister," you say, tipping your hat slightly, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Vernon. Unfortunately, your husband has some business waiting for him outside."

Vernon sighs deeply, "Is it Tull's men?"

You nod.

"How do you want me to deal with this? They want protection money," you say, scowling slightly.

As you say this, you her a crash from the front of the bar.

"Vernon! Your door's busted! You got that money?" says the voice of Shultz

You don't wait for Vernon's cue. You know how to deal with these kinds of people.

Taking out your gun, you walk into the bar to find Shultz poring himself some Fireball.

"Well, that's awful kind of you for pointing out that structural defect, but I recommend you folks mosey on out of here," you say, gun clearly visible in your hand.

"We've got a debt to collect. I ain't leavin' til–"

"You're leaving write now ya spit-drinking piss-ants!" Vernon yells, wielding a shotgun.

Everyone in the room friezes. You can see Shultz and one more man, but can't find the third one.

You've got to act fast.

You take out your rope, walking over to Shultz, as if to show it to him.

"Really fine rope, it is. I actually picked it up from a thief who was horrible at tying knots."

You throw the rope and Shultz. He drops his gun and catches the rope.

Using the distraction, you shoot the man behind the door, hearing a satisfying yell of pain.

The other man by the bar is taking aim for you when a blast from Vernon's shotgun sends him flying.

You kick Shultz's gun away from him.

"Give me my fucking rope back," you say, your gun still trained on him.

He hands you your rope. You put it around your shoulder and then grab Shultz by the collar.

He starts squirming, trying to get away, so you give him a swift kick to the crotch and throw him onto a table.

"Watch the table!" says Vernon.

"Will do," you reply, grabbing Shultz again.

"Now, are you ready to renegotiate that contract?"

Shultz stutters for a moment before finally breaking down, begging for mercy.

"Tull didn't send me!" he cries as he sags and you allow him to drop to the floor.

"No, no, please don't take me back there! Please, I'll do anything!" he begs.

Something is off here.

"Why you so scared of the whore house?" you ask. "Afraid of a little syphilis?"

"No," Shultz says. "It's just...there's something not right there. All the secret passages, that weirdo Turner skulking around, the wolves he keeps..."

"Wolves? Wolves?! WOLVES?!?!"

Vernon has the shotgun under Shultz's nose.

"HIS. WOLVES," he yells at Shultz.

"Vernon," you say calmly, "don't shoot the boy just yet."

Shultz continues whimpering.

"That BASTARD! This whole time! That old South Carolinian fuck has been playing the whole town for fools!" he says, keeping the shotgun on Shultz, but steadying his breathing.

"Vernon, what's going on?" you ask.

"Wolves. About five years ago, we started getting raided by a pack of 'em. Bigger than any I've ever seen. Mean too. Children couldn't go out at night or they'd be eaten. A man couldn't hope to outrun them or kill one, they were too fast and too crafty. Tull said he hired a specialist to deal with them. That Turner fella. Said if we paid him, he would protect us."

You stay silent for a moment before moving Vernon's shotgun with your hand and picking Shultz up by the collar.

Turner only sighs.

You fire and he draws his sword, holding it in front of himself.

The bullet falls to the ground, Turner is unharmed.

"Did," Shultz asks, "Did you just block that bullet with your sword?"

Turner gives a small laugh.

"I tried to. One of these days I might succeed. But no I didn't. It bounced off my armor."

Turner pulls back his jacket to reveal some sort of metal armor, richly decorated, with one small dent in it.

"Because," he says, "I'm your solution to this whole wolf proble–"

You shoot him in the head.

In an instant, he puts his sword in front of his face in an effort to block the bullet. He actually manages to redirect its path and instead of hitting him between the eyes, it goes through his cheek and hits his ear lobe.

He falls to one knee in pain.

"You idiot! I'm you best chance against these things!" he says.

"Figure you would have solved the problem by now if that were true," you say.

Is he a western jedi?

Tempted to keep the fact that a lynch mob is already forming as a surprise.

What? No, he's evil.

Then again, from my point of view, the Jedi ARE evil.

Instead of killing him, you lower your gun, keeping a hand on your sabre.

"You actually blocked the bullet. Nice job," you say.

"Th-thanks," he says, as his face bleeds.

"So what is your plan about the wolves?"

"They're no wolves," he says as he stands up.

"Then what are they?" asks a cowering Shultz.

"Promise not to shoot me again, at least until this is all over and I'll tell you," he says to you.

"Yeah, truce. I promise," you say.

"They're werewolves," he says, "and I'm a hunter of them."

>Werewolves? Seriously?
>So how do we kill them?
>Why haven't you killed them already then?
>How many are there?

Seriously didn't the guy who owns the wolves call you in himself? Why would he want a real hunter who will actually kill them and not a fraud?
>>
>>40294580
And where's all the money you've made from 'protection'?
>>
>>40294580
"Werewolves," you say, "Seriously? Next thing you'll tell me Abraham Lincoln hunted vampires."

"This is serious. I've dedicated my life to hunting these things," he says.

"So why haven't you killed all the ones here?" you ask.

"I..I made a deal with Tull," he says, looking a bit ashamed. "The old man called me, and explained that he had been infected with the disease. He had, on his first night, infected most of his prostitutes and a few of his men before he came to. He must have had a great deal of willpower to have not killed them all. He told me if I worked to help him continue his lifestyle as it was, he would pay me thoroughly and allow me to kill one werewolf every full moon. He began turning profits from it after a year. He offered payment in wealth and literature on the werewolf, which he was given by the one who bit him, whom I will hunt when I am finished here."

"So how do we kill them?" you ask?

"Silver anything. This armor and this sword are a special kind of silver. I have a few silver bullets I can give to you. Tonight, we will go hunting and kill all the beasts," he says, excitement in his eyes.

"H-how many of the b-beasts are there?" asks a cowering Shultz.

"There were nearly 50 when I came here. Only 8 remain," he said.

>Let's go kill some werewolves!
>Oh by the way, there's an angry mob forming outside.
>Fuck you, you greedy bastard, if it's your job to kill them, kill them! Don't make a deal with them.

So, Tull is one of those 8? ...Are you sure Tull isn't hiding more from you?

Also, if they're in human form we can just kill them with hangin', right?

>He told me if I worked to help him continue his lifestyle as it was, he would pay me thoroughly

Still doesn't make sense. What does he need you for? He can terrorize the town and demand "protection" money to keep the wolves locked up, with some random schmoe pretending to be their protector keeping them away.

"Let's go kill some werewolves!" you say enthusiastically as you take 12 silver bullets from Turner.

One hand holding a handkerchief to his bleeding face, Turner smiles as best he can saying, "Finally, no more waiting! All the beasts will die!"

"Oh, by the way, there's an angry mob outside waiting to burn the building down," you add as you begin running.

Turner thinks for a second before saying, "Well I'm sure they won't mind us killing the whores then if they're going to burn the place down anyway."

Perfect. It seems like everything is coming together quite nicely.

END OF QUEST 2

I'll answer some questions really quickly for the two or three of you still here.
>>
...wait. 42 whores went missing and nobody noticed?!
>>
>>40294990
Nice thread bro, gotta ask, DID Abraham hunt vampires?
>>
>>40295055
I don't see how we'd know that.
>>
>>40294907
Tull is included in the eight. And only silver can kill them, no matter the form.

Also, Tull didn't originally plan to use this for money. Originally, he hired Turner to tell him how to deal with being a werewolf without killing anyone. So he set up a system where he could kill the werewolves slowly so that no one would notice the unusual amount of missing whores and he could continue life as it was. Turner was going to leave and get a bunch of hunter friends to fry the whole place, but Tull threatened to put all the werewolf whores on trains to different states, which would have been a disaster for everyone.

Also, I totally didn't make any of this up on the fly. Totally didn't. All according to plan.

Well done, look forward to the next one.
>>
>>40295055
No.

He did kill a shit-ton of zombies once though.

>>40295010
No one really cares that much about whores. It was also over a long period of time.
>>
>>40295104
Thanks!

Might try to run it tomorrow if I get the time!

>only silver can kill them, no matter the form.
Well being locked up once a month sounds like a small price to pay for immortality. No sickness, no old age either?
>>
Foolproof werewolf detection.

1. hang them
2. If they survive, they're a werewolf! Shoot em with silver.

If they didn't, they're human.

Syphilis still stings like a bitch. For all eternity.

>>40295433

It's sounds like a pretty sweet deal

>Originally, he hired Turner to tell him how to deal with being a werewolf without killing anyone.

Then why couldn't he figure that out from all his vast array of inherited werewolf knowledge?
> He offered payment in wealth and literature on the werewolf, which he was given by the one who bit him,

I mean, was that whole library entirely riddled with assumptions that you would only ever want to kill all humans and there's no alternative.
