My name is Cecile, and I'm sixteen years old. I already thought my life was odd, what with my parents having moved halfway across the country for their new job and leaving me in the care of my older sister... but then my best friend went and had a book shipped to my house that ended up giving me superpowers.

Yesterday was pretty fun... I hung out with Mina and Sun-Mi during the morning, then ran into Gabrielle (and Kevin) at the mall, and from there I spent some time with Charlotte until it got dark...

...and then I found myself pulled into another Branch-related fight against a guy with magic light swords. But I only ALMOST killed him so I'm gonna count that one as an overall win.

Regardless of what the evil voice in my head may have to say about it, I really don't want to kill anyone else.

My eyes snap open and I stare at the ceiling for a good while before my senses return to me. This room... it's Charlotte's bedroom. She's the one right next to me curled up with her pillow in her arms and chewing on it like it was the most delicious thing in the world, not... nevermind.

Seeing her all innocent and defenseless like this makes me feel even more guilty about the dream I just woke up from. While it was nice that I didn't have any horrifying nightmares for a change, said dream is haunting me even more than a nightmare would have.

But I'm awake now so there's no reason to keep on dwelling on it. I have enough problems to deal with in my life without adding imaginary stuff to it as well.

Doing my best to keep from disturbing Charlotte, I slip out of the bed and take my glasses from the nightstand, then tiptoe out of the bedroom while putting them on.

Out in the hallway, I get in a nice stretch before making my way towards the kitchen... and it looks like I left my phone here on the table again. Might as well check it to see if Allison texted me or something.

"...yup, got a missed message..." I mumble to myself as I scroll down to see what exactly it was that I missed.

And it's from Theresa. Suddenly the guilt I felt when I first woke up doubles.

"Followed the two stooges for a while," Theresa's message reads. "They met up with some minion guy instead of the big boss, but they did keep up their end of the bargain."

Wow, really?

"I have it all on tape if you want to see it later, the minion guy's reaction was great."

So... yesterday's "mission" was a total success!?

...should I call her back? I dunno if she's even awake right now... when did she even send this text?

Just after midnight. Must've missed the alert because... yeah. Anyways, I guess I'll hold off a few hours before I call her back.

After flipping through my messages to make sure there isn't anything else that I missed, I place my phone back on the table and walk towards the-

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD.

I stop dead in my tracks as a gust of cold wind from the terrace washes over me. I know that Charlotte keeps the terrace doors open so her birds can get in, but I honestly have no idea how she can stand how drafty it gets in here as a result.

...but then again, she doesn't usually walk around here wearing nothing but lingerie.

Unlike Milla, I don't really interact with Loki all that much... and I'm honestly kind of lost as to how I'm supposed to. If this was MIlla, I'd pat her head but I don't even know if birds like that...

...and so, I wave to him while reaching over to the cabinet to his left and bringing out some bowls and pans to cook with.

"Hey Loki," I say to him as I put everything on the counter not too far from where he's standing. "I'm making breakfast for me and Charlotte, did you need something?"

Soundlessly, he flies on top of the fridge and starts pecking at the door.

......I guess he wants breakfast too.

>[1/?]
>>
>>40337475

"Looks like we had the same idea," I laugh as I open the door and get him a piece of bread to pick at. I don't really know what exactly crows eat (I'm pretty sure they can eat just about anything but that doesn't mean that Charlotte wants him to do that) so I'm trying to err on the side of caution here. Fortunately, Loki seems to be happy with the bread and flies over to the table with it in his mouth.

Heh, he thinks he's people.

With Loki-feeding out of the eay, I pick out a couple of eggs before closing the fridge...

"Umm, hi... Milla..." I say with an uneasy smile as she stares at me with hungry kitten eyes.

I guess I have breakfast duty for everyone here today.

Do I just toss the whole thing to her or warm it up or what? Charlotte always takes care of this stuff so I-

"...guess I'll go put one on then," I say, handing the bison meat to Charlotte as I walk past. "You take care of whatever it is that Milla and Loki eat and I'll cook breakfast for the two of us."

The only thing I hear as I enter the bedroom and fish out the apron is the sound of Charlotte's giggling.

First are the pancakes, which Allison taught me to make from SCRATCH like a real chef. I'm pretty proud of them, they're light and fluffy and smell absolutely delicious. I have to consciously keep myself from drooling all over them.

Then are a couple of eggs... I'm honestly not too much of a fan of straight eggs but Charlotte seems to like them well enough so that's why I'm cooking them.

"Geh..." I groan as I feel an all-too-familiar sensation through my spatula. "Stupid skillet..."
"What's wrong?" Charlotte asks while licking the blood from Milla's bison meat from her fingers.

Why do I find that attractive.

"It's sticking," I grumble as I scrape the egg from the skillet and it tumbles without any amount of grace onto a plate. "Don't you have any nonstick stuff?"

Note to self: oldfashioned stuff only when cooking for Charlotte.

Yup, I'm totally hot.

Woah shit son.
We don't know how Archelon's world fully works yet.

The corporations / governments / banks at the top of the hierarchy might be shadowrun-tier evil, enforcing their agendas with a stealthy, but lethal hand.
Or they might be incompetent, leading to worldwide stagnation, decay, and ruin.
Or it might be BOTH - staggeringly incompetent at their jobs of furthering humanity, but utterly competent and lethal with how they handle dissent.

Plus, what if the Romani (gypsies) had ACTUAL magic, not just sleight-of-hand tricks?
What if the Quran was originally a Gardener book, which is why it's haram for a Quran to be written in blood? Saddam Hussein had a Quran inked in his own blood - what if the Gulf wars were about putting down a super army?
And we know nothing about jews in archelon's canon. They could be eldritch horror from behind the void, beyond the abyss, and down the back of the couch where even 4chan dares not tread.

It could be fuggen scary son.

"Is he really as scary as those guys seemed to think he is/"
"Mmmmm..." Charlotte jabs at the eggs on her plate, "...I suppose? He's not really known for going easy on people who cross him, and that one time that Gabrielle was kidnapped..." she trails off.

I'm pretty sure that I've heard part of this story before. I'd like ot hear the rest.

"What happened when she got kidnapped?" I ask.
"Ugh..." Charlotte lets her fork fall on the plate. "Milla and I dispatched several of the men responsible, but one of them that was out of our reach pulled a gun. And as you know, I'm not bulletproof."
"I didn't think so."
"Well thanks to that, we were at an impasse... until Shary -Gabrielle's doll- took off the would-be shooter's hand and..." she winces. "In the end, what remained of that man wasn't recognizable as human."

All I can do is stare in disgust.

"Needless to say, Mr. Gauthier wasn't happy about his daughter being forced to witness something like that," Charlotte says. "After we were all safe, he personally spent his every waking moment tracking down the people responsible for that aborted kidnapping attempt and making sure that noone involved drew another breath."

"So back to your previous question, no, he isn't known for going easy on anyone who would hurt either of us," Charlotte says.
"I... see," I mumble.
"B- but you don't have to worry about that!" she says, holding out her hands. "While I'll admit that he does get scary when he's that angry, there's no chance of you ever being on the wrong side of that!"

I guess I have to try to be nice enough to balance out the whole family… Not that I have a good track-record so far.

Seconding.

We already did, yesterday

can we also mention that our parents are coming to town?

Did that last thread.

And Charlotte got so adorably flustered
>>
"It's... definitely scary," I mumble, "but that doesn't mean that I don't want to be with you or anything!" I say, looking Charlotte in the eyes. "So if you say that it's safe, I'll trust you."
"Thank goodness," Charlotte says, leaning back in her chair and exhaling all the air from her lungs. "That's why I didn't want to tell you about that stuff..."

On that somber note, we finish up our breakfast. The pancakes don't taste as good as I thought they did.

After Charlotte takes care of the dishes, she heads to the larger bathroom to take a shower. I guess I should do the same, I have like a full day's worth of strenuous activity on me right now and I'd much rather not end up stinking.

...but speaking of stinking, there's also the issue of what I'm going to be wearing. I could put yesterday's clothes back on for now and then stop back home to change, but that's always a pain to do.

I really ought to bring a few sets of clothing over here for when I spend the night. Aside from what I wore here, there's also the dress that Charlotte made for me... I brought it over here so that she could mend it but I think she finished with that a while ago.

We managed not to kill anyone yesterday, we deserve to be super cute.

Wearing the dress Char made for us to a lunch with someone she doesn't like doesn't feel quite right. Wearing ultra-cute dresses still seems like a "special occasion" kinda thing for us, we haven't quite made them our everyday attire yet.

Dress is for Char only.

That's it for tonight's thread, folks. It's nice to finally be back on my own laptop, but I'm about to pass out so yeah.

The next thread... I'm not quite sure at this point. I may have to be going to my cousin's graduation on Thursday but I might not so yeah. It's still up in the air.

and now questions

Arch, you've got to be there for your family.

It's not up to me, I can't go if nobody here's going to be making the drive.

And now I sleep. Thanks for playing!
