The woman sits on the other side of the seemingly unbreakable barrier that separates you and your crew from the jail.
She sits with her arms crossed, her gaze attracted toward the floor.
You are Jack Albator, and you are angry. You're angry that you're here in this village in the middle of no where. You're angry that you haven't had a drink in about an hour. You're angry no one is taking you seriously. Like this wrench, she's completely ignoring two heroes standing several inches away. You would think that someone would at least take you seriously, even if they think they are perfectly invincible.
The kid tries pounding on the invisible screen with his fists. While his punches seem to be extremely skillful and well-placed, it's difficult to tell if it was damaged at all.

You step up to the screen.
"Lass, we're heroes. Ye should ask the gents at the bar if ye want to know how well we react to this act where you play tough and fearless-"
"That's not true!" you hear her snap from the other side of the barrier. "I am afraid of you! But my pride outweighs any fear I might have."
"Then aye'll make ye a deal. Open this barrier, and ye can walk the other way from this."
No response.
"Fine then." You roll up your sleeves and look to the wall directly to your right.
Before you can even strike one of the tiles placed on the wall, the kid has already caught onto your plan and started striking each one at a time.
They fall to the floor with a shatter, but he doesn't stop punching. It's almost like his fists are chewing through the foundation.
You tap him on his shoulder, pointing down the hallway.
"Good job Lad, aye think she got the message."
Where the woman was sitting is empty now. The barrier is completely down.

The kid almost bolts forward into the abyss. Quickly, you grab his shoulder before he takes off.
"Hold it, Lad. She obviously retreated to somewhar. Maybe more guys, maybe a trap, maybe she expects one of us to chase 'er. What we need to use here is caution. Come on, follow me."
You take the lead as you carefully start to work your way down into the dungeon. You're not sure what kind of tricks she has planned, but you are sure that she won't have time to prepare anything if you're fast enough.
You continue forward at a steady pace into the dungeon. Rows of empty cells seem to make you wonder if they weren't planning on imprisoning the town initially instead of merely transporting them. Maybe they were expecting some kind of uprising?
It's difficult to say, the entire area seems to be more of an underground camp than simply a dungeon. You're not sure why they don't have more guards or something guarding this place. It's almost seemingly desolate.
You thought this kidnapping thing would be Konditorei's first and foremost priority, now you're beginning to wonder.
You continue down the winding hallways of nothing. You're expecting to be ambushed or at least attacked at practically any minute.
That's when.. you come back to a door. Opening it, you realize that you have doubled back around to the entrance again.
Your sense of direction is better than most, and you can say with confidence that you've never gotten lost someplace before. So something very strange is up.

...Hey, wait a minute.
Could we call out and threaten any loved ones she's got?

Could you please relax a bit? The last few threads you have been nothing but "WHEN ARE WE GONNA FIND THIS KNIGHT AND TORTURETORTURETORTURE I CAN'T WAIT TO TORTURE MAYBE WE SHOULD SEND HER BODYPARTS FROM HER FAMILY?"

Yes, it's that obvious. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this. Chances are, we are not going to horribly mutilate this knight. This isn't Shadow Quest.

"We're gonna try again." You tap his shoulder. "This time, we're gonna play it smart, ye see."

You walk forward a few feet, turn to a nearby pillar, and punch it as hard as you can.
In the wake of the dust, there is a fist-shaped imprint on the pillar.
Except this imprint has a single indentation.
"'ere how this works, start punchin' every pillar we come across, every forty paces, add another finger to yer punch. This place can't be any longer than that."

You start down the long hallway once again. This time you start punching every corner of every row.
Which is quick, and makes for fast progress. You notice in several areas that the hallway seems to bend unnaturally in some places. The construction of this entire prison seems to be meant to confuse and disorient anyone who isn't familiar with it.

Combined with being underground, that's pretty crafty.

You continue down the hallways and the stone pillars. From the point that you started, you measured about fifteen paces. The cells ahead of you seem to be distorted and even a little large and disproportionate. Was this due to construction constraints? Or maybe there is some kind of magic at work? Aligot would know, but it's too late to go back for him.
"Woh!" The kid next to you shouts.
"Eh?!"

You look toward his fist, where it has made contact with a pillar.
The pillar, the air, everything around it, seems to have shattered.

The cracks extend along the very air to the other cell blocks, the path, even onto-
An image, of you. Like someone made a finger-painting of your form with bacon grease.

"LAD! BACK!"
You grab him and jump away just as the entire reflective wall falls to the stone flooring. It splinters and clatters with a deafening explosion of noise.

The lad looks mighty confused, where was once an entire new section of cell blocks is now a wall. You pick up a shard of the broken glass and hold it up to your face.
It's a mirror, not just any mirror, this mirror doesn't seem to be reflecting people. Your face is merely a blur that only slightly comes into focus when you hold it close.

This entire place is mirrored on who-knows how many surfaces. It's no where near as large as you first thought it to be.
"Wow." The kid picks up a piece for himself and looks into it.

That's a very specific use of magic, making mirrors that you can't see yourself in. You guess it was cheaper to make magic mirrors than dig out a huge prison under a city with no barrier protection.

"C'mon, Aye can see the way out now."
"Y-yes."

On the opposite end of the hallway, there's a gate disguised as another prison cell. You ascend the stairway hidden within to come face-to-face with something peculiar.

Inside of this cell, is another cell. It's a cell hidden within another cell.
Sitting inside is a young looking girl, she looks about the kid's age. She's laying back on a bed staring at the ceiling.

>This seems too easy, something is up.
>Hold on, completely check the area, don't rush right at the girl.
>Grab her and get out of here
>Only one goes to get her, preferably the kid.

Jack has no Utility magic. All of his magic is for protecting himself or beating things to the ground.

He could cover the entire dungeon in a foot of water, if you think that could help.
>>
>>40353565
Actually, that would.
>>
>>40353577

I mean who knows, maybe there's a spell that'd let us touch all girls fluffy tails?

"This seems too easy, Lad." You step back. "Something is up."

The kid pouts.
"Mister, that is my princess in that cell. I'm going after her whether you like it or not!"
An uncooperative shiphand, they usually throw those overboard.

"Aye, but let's check the area first. "
He growls, before stepping into a corner to check it, you step into another one directly across.
This hidden cell seems to be made as both a shelter and a prison. It has lots of blind corners, and several places where a person could crawl right into a hide-space and be mostly hidden.

There's also no telling how much of what your seeing is weird mirror tricks.
You round another corner and peer into a darkened corner, that's when you hear something.

"There's nothing here! Looks fine to me!" The kid yells, before trudging over toward the girl, "Princess Aileen!"
"Dorje?" The horned-girl raises her head from the cell quarters.

You notice something strange in one of the corners he clearly didn't check.

Concentrating on your emblem, you imagine a wave of water only tall enough to reveal the stout figure that seems to be lurking in the shadows. Almost like a cannonball, you roll the watery wave straight across the floor.

The kid is hit right in the back of his legs and falls to one knee, but the figure takes the brunt of the wave right to the face and falls on her ass into the water.

"WAIT!!" The figure yells, still gagging from the water she inhaled. "Hold on! I surrender!"

"Surrender?"

You trudge through the water over to the coughing woman. She's fallen out of the shadows and is completely soaked in water.
"No, I mean it, I can't fight two heroes. I give up, you win!"
It's the woman from earlier.

>"Oh yeah? I think you're a liar."
>"Are you the knight everyone is talkin' about?"
>"Tell me things."
>"Like who gave you these orders?"
>"Or where is everyone you abducted?"

On a scale of 'calm' to 'PUNCH EVERYTHING!' how mad would Dorje be if his princess' fluffy bits happened to get fondled?

No antagonizing the other hero in the room.
She's given up because there's two heroes here, best not to make her think she can start a fight between them while she does something.

'Dorje'
That's a dumb name no matter how you slice it.
He takes little time freeing his princess. She jumps out of the cell and hugs him as he kind of awkwardly stands there.
Whatever, you're more interested in the trembling mess at your feet.

You pick her up by the collar of her coat and throw her onto one of the few dry surfaces in the prison.
"Ye the knight everyone is talkin' about?"

She sniffles,
"M-maybe. I've been busy. I haven't heard from the other knight in a while."
"Yar whatever." You reach for your flask and then remember that the other guy drank it all.

"Cut the tears. Yer stronger than that and this is a farce."
"IT'S NOT! IT REALLY ISN'T!"

You don't believe her.
"Here how it gonna work, aye ask a question, ye answer. Otherwise bad things happen to ye, understand?"
"Y-yes."

You go through the list of questions you want answers to.
Like, for instance, who told her to do all this?

"Royalty." Is her typical answer, "These order, this mission, all of it came straight from the king. I didn't want to do any of it! Really!"

Or how about, "Where is everyone you abducted?"

"I- I let them go. The other knight that was with me wanted a sample of the population, but I just held them for a while and let them go without telling him."
"Sample of the population, WHY Lass?"
"I don't know! It was his idea!"

"Everythin' seems to be everyone else's fault but yer own, Lass. Forgive me if I'm not trustin'."
"I-its the truth."
"Yar, sure."

She looks toward the ground.
"All I'm doing is following orders."
"All anyone does is follow orders, Lass."

"No! But! They weren't always like this!"
She buries her face in her hands. "It wasn't like this before that guy showed up. I don't know why changed."

"'That guy'?"
"Yeah.."
"Tell me about this guy."

"PRINCESS PLEASE! I'M NOT A NOBLE!"
You look over to Dorje. He keeps his princess at arms length while she tries to kiss him.

It seems Aligot isn't the only one you have to worry about.
