You are Ur'shal, Chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan and Warlord of the Wastes, though right now there's a strange otherworldly forest of stone trees between you and your clan. The whole forest is dyed blue by the moon above hanging suspended in an inky, starless sky, and the petrified trees creak and whisper despite the lack of wind. Thankfully, you are not completely without allies here, the river sprite Vaki follows, fingertips touched to your arm. You can tell that her usual confidence is a little shaken by her removal from her preferred element from the way she sticks to you, and the skittish way she moves, far removed from the grace she exhibited before.

“How far is it, Vaki?” you grunt, eyeing your surroundings. A strange, long-necked bird alights on a nearby tree, letting out a shrill shriek which makes your companion flinch, covering her pointed ears.

“Other side of the forest. Don't worry Ur, Vaki knows the way, straight ahead for now,” the fey nods up at you.

You turn your attention back to the forest, snapping thin stony branches to force your way through where the foliage is densest, ignoring the red sap standing out starkly against the overbearing blue light of the moon.

As you push through a particularly heavy area of the forest, Vaki perks up, ears twitching, sniffing the air.

“Vaki smells forest things, not friendly forest things, following our trail.”

“What sort of forest things, Vaki?” you ask, shifting your grip on your axe.

“Nasty forest things, hairy, big teeth, Vaki hates them.”

You suppose a detailed description might be a bit much to expect from the fey.

So is Orge satan the only Orge god left?
>>
>>40387814

I don't think there were ever other ogre gods.
I mean, Ylugri was/is part of the Giant pantheon, it's just that ogres switched to monotheism after being fucked over by all the Giant gods who weren't literally Satan.
>>
>tfw the forest thing is Shia Labeouf
We're doomed unless we get some real damn good rolls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0u4M6vppCI
>>
>>40387814
Ylugri wasn't exactly the "ogre god" originally, ogres worshipped the giant pantheon which included Ylugri as a trickster figure and foil to the gods.

Then the worship of Ylugri started to take off in ogre cities, mainly because many ogres felt that the rest of the pantheon favored giants over what many giants saw as their "lesser kin". Over time Ylugri came to be seen as the Ogre God, while the giantish pantheon's worship in ogre civilization died away.

The the ogres went and shamed the giantish gods with their awe-inspiring monuments to Ylugri, and the curse happened, at least that's the version of events you've heard from Ashuris.

Ku'zag's version suggests it wasn't quite as one-sided as that and that part of it may have been the ogres growing taste for blood sacrifice which led to increased raiding against giantish neighbours.

Neither version denies that the giantish gods are petty, egotistical cunts though.

Ylugri did nothing wrong.

>Thea – Slave of Or'kaz. A dark haired human woman formerly of the mountain-dwelling Cloud Tribe. Skilled at leatherwork, seems a bit prone to histrionics. 22 years old, 5'9” in height.

>Sarsi – Male elf, blacksmith, formerly part of Koasa's ruling council, given to Y'zoa to help train her in her craft.
Talking about only teaching Y'zoa the lesser of our two blacksmiths.
Also is the lazy git working harder now after being possessed?
>>
>>40387889
>Is she working in anyway?
Yes, she fixes up armor and clothing when required.

>Talking about only teaching Y'zoa the lesser of our two blacksmiths.
There's not much Sarsi can teach Or'kaz, Or'kaz is a reasonably skilled smith when he's not being lazy as fuck, he just needs to shake off the rust.

>Also is the lazy git working harder now after being possessed?
Yes.
>>
>>40387889
>Also is the lazy git working harder now after being possessed?
Anon, it has sort of been slightly hinted at that Or'kaz might just become a priest of Zul'orok Zhar after his possession.
Give him time, besides, we haven't heard of him since Ur got wrecked.
I kind of want to do that lava forge idea now though, get the witches to make a forge that burns "forever".
>>
“How many?”

Vaki frowns, cocking her head.

“Three... or four, Vaki thinks.”

“and how big are these things?”

The fey stretches out her arms as wide as they'll go. “Bigger than this, not as big as Ur, not quite, but a lot bigger than Vaki.”

Sounds like they could be trouble, and you definitely don't want to fight them in terrain like this where the trees will get in the way of your axe, you had enough of that in the caverns. You pick up your pace, swatting aside branches and fossilized undergrowth, ignoring the stinging as sharp stone twigs and bracken scratch at every exposed bit of skin.

“Anywhere up ahead we could ambush from?”

“Hmm, Vaki thinks there's a clearing up ahead, lots of places to hide too,” the fey nods, grinning.

“When we reach the clearing, we'll circle back around and hit them from behind when they come out into the open, can you do that, Vaki?”

The fey grins a predatory grin, pointed teeth gleaming in the moonlight. “Vaki can do that.”

You hear a loud baying as you push on towards the clearing, Vaki leading the way, slipping through the stony underbrush with fluid grace. It still sounds far off for now, but each time you hear it it's drawing closer.

Finally Vaki hops out into a clearing, where it looks like the stone trees have been shattered and destroyed by some sort of battle, fragments and smashed remnants littering the ground.

You run for the fast end of the clearing together, vaulting over stumps and petrified lumber, the baying sounds coming ever nearer. When you push into the foliage on the far side, you slow your pace, picking your way as carefully as possible back around the edge to find a good ambush spot. Once you think you've found one, you crouch down and wait, Vaki still as a statue beside you.

I have been meaning to ask this for a while.
So as time goes on will our spell casters learn spells naturally, and could we vote what they learn(not micromanage but in general direction like ur telling them what he wants them to know)?
I thought of this when we first talked to (The Great) Bra'kur in his tenet while he was reading(something Ur really should work on).
>>40387984
I'm just glad we got a 17.
>>
>>40388010
I will let you guide spellcasters who are your slaves on what they should learn, but the rest you'd have to go out of your way to tell them what to learn, which they might resent.
>>
>>40388030
Ok cool, and will you tell us when our non-slave members learn new stuff or will anons who pay attention to the docs notice first?

Better sacrifices.

>>40388077
which is why i specifically said not micromanage, but a suggestion like could you try learning something that slows people charging at us, but that point is moot anyway when it comes to clan members.
>>
>>40388108
So, micromanaging, with a chance of it having no effect.
>>
>>40388122
eh maybe, but i meant it as a group suggestion instead of ordering one person.
>>
The creatures slip out into the clearing, barely disturbing the stony trees despite their size. There are four of them, powerful, squat, four-legged beasts coated in a thick layer of shaggy, striped hair.

The lead one, slightly larger than the others, sniffs the ground, throwing its head back and baying loud enough to set your teeth on edge. Its flat face scans the edges of the clearing, dark beady eyes sweeping the undergrowth. The creature peels its lips back into a freakishly wide grin, a row of razor-sharp teeth stretching from ear to ear. For a moment you think it spots you as its head swivels by your position, but then it pads on, sniffing as it goes.

The rest follow, one baring its teeth into a humorless grin and letting out a sound of harsh laughter as it hops over a fallen tree. As they move past you, you nod to Vaki, the fey gripping her fishing spear tight in her hands as the two of you slip out of the undergrowth, picking your way through the stone-strewn clearing towards the rear of the group.

The beast at the back of the pack notices you, but just too late to make a difference, as you and Vaki set on it, your axe cleaving off a leg as the tiny fey leaps onto its back, driving her spear between the beast's ribs with a series of swift, precise jabs.

The creature dies, face still locked in a wide toothy smile, laughing at its own demise. The rest of the pack wheel around to face you, baying and laughing, the pack leader's grinning mouth splitting open, revealing a second set of teeth beneath.

You swear as you look around, realizing that you've pushed forward into the middle of the trio, which are now circling you and Vaki as the fey backs up towards you.

“Vaki forgot to mention, be careful of the hairy things howling at you too close, Ur, made Vaki feel all dizzy last time.”

“Vaki, when one of them comes for us, we cut it off from the other two and cut it down, got it?” you grunt.

The fey nods, the two of you standing back to back, watching the beasts as they skulk around you, cackling. You get the feeling they're waiting for you to lose your nerve, but you just snarl right back at them, squaring your shoulders and daring them to make a move.

One of the things takes the bait, launching itself at you ahead of the other two with a howl. You meet the attack head on, swinging for the beast, your greataxe biting into its side, it collides with you, cackling and spitting, claws raking over your breastplate, trying to force you to the ground with its bulk. You bellow back in the beast's face, seizing hold of the thick hair of its neck and throwing it down, it lands awkwardly on its side, struggling to right itself, but you aren't going to give it time to recover, bringing your axe down in a heavy arc, driving it through the thick neck muscles of the beast, shattering the spine and severing the arteries.

You head a frustrated howl from behind you as one of the beasts retreats, one eye put out and currently dangling from the end of Vaki's spear. Grinning, you spin around, drawing a dagger from your belt and throwing it in one practiced motion, the heavy blade lodging into the remaining eye of the surprised creature, burying into the beast's brain and dropping it where it stands.

The last of the bandersnatch, the pack leader, pulls back from his intended attack, retreating to a safe distance, watching you. It looks a lot less sure of itself than it did a minute ago.

Oh I'll explain it now, I just didn't want to add more fuel to the fire of that thread.

Enemies can burn favor to force a reroll from you, making you roll another 3d20 and take that result instead if it's lower. You can burn your own favor to prevent that however.

You don't have to worry about that, I had a lot of fun running Disciple of Elshhu, not going to get discouraged.
>>
You step forward, baring your teeth, standing as tall as you can, trying to cow the beast into submission. Apparently it doesn't feel like sticking around to find out what you've got planned though, as it promptly turns tail and runs off into the stony trees, leaving you and Vaki alone.

You give a growl of annoyance, another opportunity lost, well fine, you didn't even want that cowardly thing anyway...

“At least you still have Vaki,” the fey grins, prodding you on the arm.

“True, you're worth far more than some dumb beast,” you snort, patting the fey on the head as the pair of you set off once more towards your destination.

You push through the forest for what feels like hours, having long since grown accustomed to the stinging of countless tiny scratches from stony branches. Vaki pulls ahead sometimes but always returns, having apparently regained some confidence since your battle with the bandersnatch.

Eventually you push out of the stony forest onto a wide open plain, pale white grass whispering in the phantom wind, ghostly seeds drifting up into the sky in great clouds as the knee-high grass sheds its bounty.

“Over there, see those stones? That's the way out for Ur,” Vaki grins, pointing at a ring of stones jutting out of the flat plain, probably around ten minutes walk away.

(cont)
>>
>>40390094
You pick up your pace, pleased to be free of the forest and with a goal in sight, Vaki jogging alongside you as you stride towards the exit. You hear a sound carrying on the air, a near inaudible screech, and the fey's ears park up, eyes going wide.

“Ur, Vaki thinks we need to go, right now,” the fey whispers, grabbing your arm and trying to tug you forward.

“What is it, Vaki?”

“Bad things, trouble, why Vaki doesn't come here often,” the fey explains, scanning the horizon.

Then you spot it, off to your left in the distance, a long avian neck rising from the tall grass, the head jerking from side to side, letting out a shrill warbling shriek. The thing is massive, and as it rises to its full height it must stand twice your height. It stretches out a pair of long blue and white wings, giving another shriek as its head swivels round, fixing on you and your companion.

The noise is echoed by another shriek from the left, then another, then two more answer from the right, more of the long-necked birds lifting themselves from some unseen hiding spot beneath the grass. How many of these things are there? Vaki seems to be desperately trying to drag you towards the standing stones, a panicked look on the fey's face.

As for that sort of creature, perhaps as some bizarre divine servant out there somewhere, I guess, maybe.

With a grunt, shift your grip on your axe, freeing up an arm. Vaki gives a surprised squeak as you scoop her up, breaking into a sprint. The fey clings to you as you run, the white grass a blur under your feet. The birds shrieks grow louder as they start to close in on your position, and you duck your head as a clawed foot rakes past your skull.

The birds are fast, unnaturally so, but they still can't pin you down, and you slam the flat of your axe into a beak as it pecks at your heels. Another tries to trample you underfoot, but you dive between its stilt-like legs, bounding back up to your feet as you land, Vaki still held firmly to your chest, the two birds snapping at each other as they collide behind you.

“It's there, hurry, jump into the water,” Vaki shouts as you sprint to the standing stones, spotting a clear, still pool at the centre.

With no time to question it, you dive into the water, a feeling of weightlessness overtaking you as the frustrated screeches of the birds fades away. You keep sinking, the world slipping away until only you remain, your lungs screaming for breath.

You struggle, trying to swim for some unseen surface, but the weight of your equipment, and your own inexperience in the water, pulls you further into the inky ocean. You feel two small hands against your cheeks, feel Vaki's slim body pressed against yours, the fey's dark, clear eyes staring into yours as she drags you deeper.

(cont)
>>
>>40390749
Then you surface, coughing and gasping for air. You look around, getting your bearings, some sort of cavern. Vaki emerges from the water next to you, giving you a toothy grin.

“See, Vaki told Ur she'd get him out,” the fey chirps, as you pull yourself from the edge of the pool, which looking back goes down a few feet at most.

“Where are we now, Vaki?”

“Near where Ur and Vaki first met, we have to go that way,” the fey grins, pointing to a tunnel on the wall opposite you.

You pick yourself up, shaking off the water and emptying out your boots. There's a feeling about this place, a feeling of weight and solidity, or perhaps it's more accurate to say that the strange world Vaki took you to lacked that sensation, like it could all crumble away in a second.

Running a hand through your waterlogged hair, you shoulder your axe, following the fey as she skulks off down the tunnel. You soon hear a familiar sound of running water, you must be close to some part of the river at least, and Vaki stops as she reaches an opening into a wider cavern. Looking down you can see the river below, you having apparently come out on some high ledge, a narrow path leading along the side of the wall and down towards the river and the cavern floor far below. You squint down, making out shapes in the darkness.

“Vaki, what's down there?”

“Short people, came here looking for things, very rude to Vaki some of them were. Not these ones though, Vaki hasn't talked to these ones.”

“How many?”

“Many.”

“Are we going to have to get through them to get back to the camp?”

“Near them, yes, not through.”

You pick your way down the narrow ledge closer to the dwarf camp, staying low and quiet. As you come closer, you start to be able to make out numbers, perhaps forty or fifty dwarves you can see, dressed in an assortment of bright clothing and leather armor, most carrying some sort of weapon, mostly picks and short blades. The camp looks temporary, tents set up on a raised area of the cavern, some large heavyset pig-like creatures sat in the centre, probably pack animals.

Everything seems to be going well until you reach the bottom of the ledge, until slipping round a rock you come face to face with a dwarf staring back at you, open-mouthed, holding a pile of green powder in one hand. He's a short distance away, but slow to react, you might have time to put him down, but you can't be sure.

You turn to Vaki, who cocks her head and shrugs.

You suppose you may as well go, no sense taking this dwarf with you, and you don't want to put the rest of the camp on alert by abducting one of their number.

You sneak along the edge of the cavern, following the river as it winds through a series of tunnels and caves, at times walking alongside, at times wading until the water is almost at your chin. Eventually you step out into a far more familiar looking cavern, Vaki giving a noise of glee as she bounds over to the bank of the river.

“Look Ur, look, it's where Ur and Vaki first mated.”

You look over your shoulder to the perfectly smooth tunnel leading up to the Stonetusk Camp to the left. You finally made it. You turn back to Vaki, the fey looking up at you wide-eyed.

“You want to come with me?”

Vaki stares, glancing from you to the river.

“Vaki can come back to the river any time she wants?”

“Of course, we still have trades to make anyway,” you shrug, the fey nodding with enthusiasm, a broad toothy grin across her face.

You aren't sure how long it's been since you disappeared, you can only hope that nothing has bad has happened in your absence. Taking a breath, you shoulder your axe and head up the tunnel, Vaki at your side, staring wide-eyed at the light coming down from above.

As you reach the top of the tunnel, you find two sentries sat by the sides of the entranceway, one of them looking up as you approach, jaw dropping as he recognizes you.

“Chieftain, you're alive!”

“Takes more than that to kill me,” you grunt.

You look over to the other orc.

“Go gather the clan in the centre of the camp.”

The orc nods hurriedly, running off to carry out your orders as you turn back to the other one.

“I want to know everything that's been happening while I was away.”

“R-right chieftain. Well after the fey took you, uh, some of the other orcs thought you might be dead, so they were talking about who was going to be the new chieftain. Zo'rok and Dru'ak and some of the other orcs said you were coming back, and until it was confirmed that no-one could be the new chieftain or have any of your women. Uh, there were a few other orcs talking about being chief, but then Ya'zada woke up a couple of days ago and... and thinned out the numbers, there haven't been any big fights yet, but it feels like their could be.”

You frown, better than you'd feared, but still worse than you would have liked. You were obviously recovering for a while, even with the help of whatever that goop was Vaki healed you with.

You leave the orc behind and head into the camp, a few surprised orc stragglers gawking at you as you pass. You glance over at your hut, pausing to stare. You don't remember there being five heads on spikes over the door last time you were here, it's no-one you recognize by name though.

Shrugging it off, you head on towards the centre of the camp, finding a massed gathering of orcs, the orc you sent off before to gather them up pointing at you as you arrive.

“See, I told you.”

"What are you all gawking for? I brought the clans together. And together, under my leadership, we defending the the attacks of Slaagyrs minions, destroyed a clan of feral abyss possessed orcs, and for once in many years have hope for a future where Orcs can once again do what Orcs do best!

And yet, there are those here that think I would fall to some petty cave lurkers?! NO! I AM URSHAL OF THE STONETUSK CLAN... And we are just getting started."

I don't know... something along those lines.

We should negotiate with the dwarves to go slay a dragon, Slaagy must have loot right?

If we negotiate badly we can just respect the deal. If they dwarves get super hype we can betray them!
>>
>>40392958
why are you so set on budying up with dwarves especially a race that helped deestroy our kingdom and one where our god NTRed their god?
You would think they would allow a small group of orcs to survive?
There is a reason they targeted Orc women.
>>
>>40392958
Well, he's a dragon, so he must have phat loot.

I guess there's no harm in trying but I doubt Dwarves would do business with orcs, especially if our agenda is to kill them, pillage their stuff, and rape their women.

>>40393010

Because we need to kill Slaagy before the timeskip and its annoying me thats we haven't gotten any closer to that goal in 4eva

Careful now. Theres a reason orcs bred halfdwarf orcs to fight dwarves. Orcs as they are have a disadvantage in tunnel fighting, shorter brickshithouses like Bra'kur level the playing field
>>

>Theres a reason orcs bred halfdwarf orcs to fight dwarves.

Warlord never said orcs breed with dwarves because of that.
Why the hell does tunnel fighting even come into with fighting a dragon?
>>
You frown, sweeping your gaze across the assembled crowd, which you are thankful to note does not look noticeably smaller than last time you were here. You spot Zo'rok and Dru'ak at the front of the crowd, your old friends palpably relieved by your return, you give them a nod, turning and stepping up onto a flat rock to address the clan.

“You thought that I would die as easily as that? I am Ur'shal, Chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan, Warlord of the Wastes. I vowed to bring you all glory and plunder, and death will not stop me from honoring that vow.

I have travelled through the dream realm, battled fey beasts, and I return with news of more raids to come. Dwarves in the tunnels beneath, too few to stand against us and deny us taking whatever we desire.

So I ask you, Stonetusks, will you break apart and flee at the first sign of trouble, or will you follow me to glory, now and forever!”

The chorus of roars and cheers is deafening as you raise your axe high.

It's good to be back.
