You are SAMANTHA SMITH, or at least you were until recently, when a fall from on high left you a stain on some rocks. Until yesterday, you were a Chubby Teenage girl who was looking forward to transforming herself over the summer at fat camp. That turned out to be a literal transformation as you were reborn as a baby Harpy in an unknown Fantasy forest.

So far your first day has been pretty exciting as you met your mother, a harpy with sun-kissed skin golden locks of hair and brilliant white wings, and she introduced you to your (older) twin sister, who you proceeded to dominate in a fluffy wrestling match for the age. The two of you then wandered the family nest for a while as your mother left to go out and hunt the wilderness for food. During this time you visited your baby sibling, an egg, and entered your parent’s room to rest on their bed as it is far superior to any other. When Mom returned you met your older sister at dinner and ate some unknown beast that tasted delicious.

Now, you are pleasantly full of delicious meat, your twin twittering happily nearby, and the both of you covered in the blood and little meat chunks of what is left of dinner. Your white down stained a crimson hue. Big sis was a little more efficient only getting blood on the front of her, thus making it easy to remove by wiping it off with a raggedy fur.

The real question is, how do you get all this blood off you?

You look down at your feathers, slick with the blood of your meal, and heavy with the stink of iron, you decide there is no way that you will be able to clean all of this off by yourself. Lucky for you, you know just the girl for this kind of situation.

You look over to your twin sister, she seems to be fussing over her own feathers as she attempts to clean herself off, covered in head to toe in just as much gore as you are. She licks at her blood covered wing in an attempt to get the crimson ichor off to very little avail.
“Twitt Cheep.” You say, catching her attention.
She gazes at you quizzically and you hop over to her and get to work cleaning her feathers off by preening them for her.

Your sister catches on quickly and begins returning the favor to you, removing the viscera from the places you couldn’t reach on your own. As the two of you work you think you hear a soft sigh from nearby, however you are a little busy cleaning off your twin to bother checking.

In a little while the two of you are puffy white balls of fluffy once more, there are still little bits of pink patches on the two of you but you are no longer the red dripped babies that you were a little while earlier. Your sister lets out a little “Chirp” of thanks and looks at you happily. The sun is starting to fall low in the sky but you still seem to have energy from that nap you took earlier. Mom seems to be cleaning up dinner still tossing bits of bone out over the side of the nest and big sis seems to be looking out at the sky over near another edge.

What do you want to do now?

You realize that there is more than enough time left in the day to go on an adventure. After all, you aren’t going to get anywhere in life if you spend it all in the nest. Even if you are less than a day old, you have all the knowledge and experience of sixteen years of life, you can totally survive a short trip into the woods.

You nudge your twin with a, “Twitt twit, Cheep Chirp.” And point with your wing, towards one of the large branches that supports the nest and leads further into the large tree that the nest is settled in. There must be things to check out just beyond this home of sticks and straw and it’s just a short hop that way. She looks at you skeptically and shakes her head. It seems she doesn’t want to leave the nest.

Well, that’s no fun. Mom, is still preoccupied with cleaning out the nest, she seems to be preening off the matted furs she brought home intent of making them into more towels or blankets perhaps. And your older sis still seems to be staring off into space. Well, I guess you’ll just have to have a grand adventure on your own.

You hop your way across the nest, past lil’ bro/sis/egg, and to the branch. You look one last time back at your family, no one seems to have noticed yet besides Twin Sis who twits at you nervously, keeping a steady pace of several hops behind you. You exit the nest, off into this brand new world… or at least the tree.

A few minutes later you are still bouncing along the large branch of the tree, this thing has to be as large as an Earth Red Wood or something from the sheer size of it. Sunlight weaves its way through the large leaves that surround you casting shadows, you hear a fait rustle every now and again as the leaves brush up against each other, the bark feels rough against your tiny talons, but you are filled with excitement at the prospect of exploring the unknown, after all this tree is HUGE! Or maybe you are just misjudging its height because you are so tiny.

“Twit” you hear from behind you, looking back you see your twin still not far behind. Hunh, looks like she came on your little adventure even though she didn’t want to. Perhaps she is still trying to convince you to go back to the nest.

Disregarding the concerned twittering of you twin sister, you march across the branch, talons digging into the wood to steady yourself. You can hear your sister's chirping start to get more distant as you go on, fear keeping her rooted to her spot. Eventually, the branch runs out, leaving you at a dead end. You will not be stopped, however! Nearby you can see another branch dangling temptingly nearby. Your mind already made up, you steady yourself for a jump, and leap over just as a huge gust of wind sweeps out from under you! Unfortunately, Chicks are very light, and you're swept far over your goal.

Air rushes past you as you suddenly stop going sideways and start going down, your small form narrowly missing branches until they simply stop, the large trunk of the tea visible as a blur. In a panic you flap and flail, desperately trying to stop yourself. This isn't right! You're a bird! BIRDS FLY! The scene of the rapidly approaching ground is all to familiar to you, and the last thing you are aware of is a large wing form sweeping from the nest above and swooping down, all too late...

Disregarding the concerned twittering of you twin sister, you march across the branch, talons digging into the wood to steady yourself. You decide that the best way to explore is to get the best view of the area as possible, that way you know exactly where you can go in the future, and the best way to that is to head up to the very top of this tree. You look around and notice that there is another big branch, a little bit higher than the one you are currently standing on just a short hop away. It’ll be a bit of a leap of faith but you can do it!

You leap, there is a loud very concerned “TWEET” from behind you as you leave behind the safety of the home branch. You are suspended briefly in the air and then, your talons sink into the next branch. Hah, you knew you could do it. You look back to see your sister visibly shaking, her little feathers all rustled. She really doesn’t seem happy with this adventure, but you have a world to explore and you won’t let fear of the unknown hold you back, not like it did when you were human and stayed in your room. Afraid of rejection from peers, or people stealing you off the streets, or of not succeeding in life. No, this was your new start and you were going to make the best of every moment of it.

It feels like an eternity as you continue up the tree, launching yourself from branch to branch. A few times you almost slip but manage to sink your sharp little talons into the wood to keep yourself from free falling into a very familiar scenario. But you finally reach your destination, the tip-top of the tree. You carefully inch your way across the thinner branches that support all of the leaves up here breaking through the barrier of leaves and looking out upon the world that surrounds your home.

The sun hangs low in the sky, it is late in the afternoon and threads of light dance across the sky painting it a deep orange, darkness already beginning to creep its way into the opposite horizon. A soft spring breeze blows through the landscape causing waves on the ocean of leaves that surround you, tickling your feathers as a wave skims by another ripple on the vast green expanse. To the North lie mounds of earth raise up covered in green, rolling hills that seem to stretch on and on. Beyond those the land turns into jagged spires that scrape the clouds, mountains that seem to wall off this little corner of the world, dark clouds seem to pour over them, obscuring your view of the tops. To the South you see a winding expanse of shining blue that snakes its way through the land surrounded by plains of amber that dance like the trees, farms growing grain, and along the river a walled town. Looking out you notice one other tree that stands tall against the horizon bathed in the glow of the setting sun, a behemoth in this forest, a rival of your own perhaps.

You look out at the landscape for some time, not even noticing the extra weight that settles on the branch next to you, your sister come to watch the setting sun in spite of all her fears.

You settle in on the branch, moments like these only happen a few times in a lifetime, and you should know already having used one. Slowly you creep along the branch up next to your sister and snuggle up against her your feathers pressing against one another you lay one of your little wings over her. She seems to have calmed down from earlier and the two of you sit on the branch, high above the world and gaze out as the fiery red orb of light slowly sinks beneath the horizon. Threads of light lingering on the sky, grasping and clawing to find purchase on the clouds above. You watch as the heavens go from that warm orange, to a fiery red, then dark blue like the open ocean depths, until all that is left of the sunset is a deep violet that hangs on the precipice of the horizon before it to winks out leaving nothing left but the darkness of the sky, the twinkling light of the billions of stars, and the soft glow of the pale moon.

With the moment over you turn to your sister as she stares out at the abyss that is the sky above, it is not like a city sky, with the light of the heavens above dimmed to nothing by the light pollution, but that of an untainted world, and the world is almost as bright as day to your eyes, for the stars light your way. Suddenly you hear lots of moment of leaves and panicked flapping below. You can hear it from even up here, “Girls? Where are you? GIRLS!? LITTLE ONES!? My sweet chickadees!! Where are you!?” It looks like mom has noticed you are gone. Your sister looks at you, with a look that says she tried to warn you.

Oh man, Mom is panicking that not good. This is not what you wanted. You just wanted to go on an adventure with your twin sister in your own home, after all birds live in trees, how could it be dangerous to explore your own backyard? Maybe she thinks you fell? You need to let Mom know you are ok, and you need to get back to the nest ASAP.

“TWEET, TWEET!~” you yell out at the top of your lungs. Maybe she will be able to hear you all the way up here. After all you’re still in the same tree. “TWEET,TWEET” You look over at your sister, she seems to be worried too. “TWEET” she starts up along with you.

You don’t hear Mom coming, oh man can she not hear you? You gotta get back, she has to be frantic, maybe if you get back quick she won’t be upset, after all you and sis just went for a little walk. Nothing bad happened. Everything will be fine. Yep, absolutely fine. You start hopping back down the tree chirping the entire way as you jump from branch to branch on your way down.

“TWEET,” “TWEET,” you and your sister cry out in unison as you make your way down. Suddenly, you hear it, a loud frantic flapping of wings coming from below and, away? Wait is Mom leaving the nest? Then you hear it louder, just off, from outside the leaf wall wings flapping loudly. “TWEET” you let out once again to let her know where you are. The flapping follows you as you make your way down the tree and back to the nest. With one final leap, you are back on your home branch, your twin following just behind. Your voice is sore from all the tweeting to Mom to let her know you are ok, but you are finally almost back to the nest.

You enter the nest from the main branch, jumping over the little wall of sticks and straw, to see Older Sister looking at you. She tilts her head with curiosity, “Oah, there you are, Mom-“ she starts but is interrupted by a rush of feathers barreling its way into the nest and enveloping you and your younger twin.

Mom clutches you close to her chest, her beautiful white wings holding you and your sister tight to her. You feel wet and look up, she is crying heavily “My babies,” she manages to choke out between gasps “my sweet little twins, Its ok. Everything is fine. Mama is here. Don’t worry, everything is fine. I’m here.” She is trembling as she strokes your feathers, clearly everything is not fine.

I don't think anyone can really say that they didn't expect this.

But that view (and proving to Sis that she can do things like that and not get killed) was worth the inevitable grounding.

I wonder what kind of leash we can expect to get stuck with. Not that it would stop us, mind you. Well, assuming a lack of thumbs doesn't get in our way.

You really upset mom, if the amount of tears plinking off your head is any indication, but you can fix this. You just need to use the powers of your little baby body! Time to turn on the cuteness factor! You snuggle into your mother pressing your little fluffy body against her and wrap your tiny wings as far as they can go around her body.

“Cheep” you say as you stare up at her, a smile only an innocent child could wear alight upon your face. She looks down, her own wet eyes meeting yours. “Cheep” you let out again. She chuckles through her tears, as she lifts her wing from around you and begins drying her tear stained face.

“Everything is fine,” she says this time actually with some belief in her own words. “Mama is here.” She once again wraps her wing around you, nuzzling you and planting a soft kiss atop your head, before turning to your twin and doing the same. She lifts the both of you up in her wings and it is at this time that you notice that she seems to have a small taloned hand halfway down her wing with a couple of clawed fingers. She brings you over to the little piles of fur and fluff that you saw earlier in the day and lays you and your sister down in them.

“Now my little ones, it is dark and we must rest,” she looks up from your two prone forms. “Mama has had quite a rough day.” She says to herself.

Let's not press the Mama. A lullaby would be nice but she seems a bit stressed - she might end up singing something like Rocka-bye-baby.

Ok guys, little help, I know I say 10-15 minutes for my voting period and two votes snuk in under the 15 minute line. Meaning what I was going to write isn't anymore. Should I stick with the original calling line or should I go by my 15 minute mark? I know this is a really noob QM thing but I'd feel bad if I left votes out.
>>
>>40416273
Keep doing what you're doing bro.
>>
>>40416273
whenever you announce the cutoff is the cutoff.
>>
>>40416273
Announce a cutoff before you write, Allow it for now but next time announce the cutoff
>>
>>40416273
Speaking as one of those two votes: you called the vote, it's done, just keep going. We'll just have to learn of mama's vocal prowess (or lack thereof) another day.
>>
>>40416109
>Can't you guys wait for it to progress naturally?

We have been blessed with knowledge from our previous life. There's no reason we shouldn't actively try to learn things earlier than "natural".
>>
>>40416273

I've seen quests with a deluge of posts that come in JUST AFTER the cutoff and would've tipped the scale, but the cut's the cut, and few people in those have ever complained about it.

Don't worry on it, mate.
>>
>>40416352
There's no reason to do it either.
>>
>>40416373
>there's no reason to learn to speak
Speaking is useful.
>>
>>40416273
Better stick with the calling line. Will avoid tons of problems later
>>
>>40416273
best to put your foot down on the subject of cutoff points and stand your ground. its a good rule that few players will honestly complain about
>>
>>40415904
You lay there in the fleecy pile of fluff that surrounds you, Mom is still pretty close by, if you chirped up you could probably get her to tell you a bed time story or a lullaby or something. But then again you did put her through quite the bit of an ordeal tonight. Perhaps it would be for the best if you just went to sleep without a fuss. You rub your head into a particular soft spot in the pile and start closing your eyes. You glance around the nest as you do so, shadows and darkness casting over all, with only the light of the moon above the trees to light your home.

Off to the side you see your older sister, burying herself underneath several furs forming the pile of fluff you decided against jumping into this morning. In the nursery you catch a glimpse of your mother, settling down next to your little egg sibling, wrapping it under one wing and resting her head on the straw and feathers of the soft nursery floor. Next to you is your twin whom you look in the eyes as you both start to drift off to rest. An eventful first day of your new life behind the both of you. You close your eyes, and enter into your dreams.

>>End of First Day<<

Calling it here tonight folks, Questions, Concerns, Just want to yell random shit at me do it. I'll stick around for another two hours or so. We'll pick up tomorrow with the Dawn of the Second Day.
>>
>>40416387
Yes, but there's no immediate need for it. Just because we have our past knowledge doesn't mean we need to rush to use it.
>>
>>40416447
>Tomorrow
Fuck, I meant next time. Uhhh... Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. I would totally run tomorrow but I have a game group. I'm sorry for getting hopes up.

I wonder if we'll eventually get to the point where we'e in perfect sync with our twin. Where we start finishing eachothers sentences and the like.

Never. This isn't that kind of quest.
>>
>>40416741
Depends, you should be flying well before the end of this first week. Shouldn't be much longer after that before you can lift a random villager. Don't know why you would though, people don't usually take kindly to be suddenly lifted into the air.
>>
>>40416770
Neither you nor I know what kind of quest this is going to be.

I'd be cool with a slow progression, so we can actually get an attachment towards our various family members.

Because eventually we have different opinions about different stuff.
