In the (fictional) city of New Wakefield you were raised by your uncle, Mr. Thomas Bailey, and until the age of 20 helped work the counter and handle the money at his Bar, The Hops and Bailey. However that's when prohibition hit and hit your uncle hard. Forced to close down the bar business he reopened it as a butcher shop. Not wanting to be more of a finical burden you attempt to get a job, however you have little luck or at the very least consistent luck, before your uncle suddenly dies only a year into the butcher shops existence, he hadn't even settled on the new name yet. As his only family you inherited not only the butcher shop his two bedroom apartment you two shared, and 2'500 dollars (equivalent to 35 grand in today's money)

You considered drinking your worries away at one of the speakeasy bars that had started popping up in the city while you looked over the butcher shops inventory. Only to find that your wise uncle had been storing small containers of alcohol in the bodies of the animals in the meat locker and had hidden the bar's former brewery behind an open space in the paneling. After searching his papers you discover he was planning on setting up a speakeasy and even a protection racket to keep the neighborhood from succumbing to one of the mobs that were beginning to take over the city.

With this start, perhaps you could do it, get back at the world that robbed you and rob it back, gain real power as one of the mobsters the city feared.

But first, who are you?

Ernest Bailey it is. A suitable name for an aspiring crime boss...but if you want to run this power you'll need power, but oh how to achieve it? The city is your oyster, but how shall we exploit it first?

>Hiring some thugs

You decide to put your secret cross dressing fetish plan to seduce the mayor on hold for the moment when you realize that you can't really call yourself a gang with no one to help you with the dirty work.

Back when you lived out on the streets trying to find a job you did meet some interesting characters who might fit perfectly for the job.

>Fish Eye Willie-A strange man with an over-sized eye, despite this he's the best shot with a rifle you've ever seen and runs a gun shop

>Bruce Boxer- the cities former heavy weight champ before he got caught paying off fighters to fall, he now runs a small gym and teaches boxing

>Rat Hampton- A man you can't trust, he's a weasel of the highest order and makes a killing selling secrets on mobsters to mobsters for the right price, and is willing to work for any man that can guarantee his protection.

>Pierre Pierce- a french baker, or so that's what he tells people. For reasons unknown his pies are surprisingly popular with mob bosses and prison inmates.

>Candy Cane Jane- a woman who knows how to hit a sweet spot. Though she denies it to the police her sweet shop has been a suspected to be involved with criminal activity after mobsters began drowning people with blocks of rock candy instead of cement since the candy melts away after the body drowns leaving no evidence.

With 2,5000 dollars you likely can't afford all of them but one or two is a good start, and that's if you can convince them.

You're going to need some muscle if you need to get anything done in this town. You go to his tiny run down gym that's barely anything more then a garage with some weight sets and a boxing ring inside it.

You spot his bulging muscles and tiny head plowing away his shadow as you enter inside.

He stops as soon as you approach the ring.
"Hm? Oh hey it's you! Sorry I couldn't get you that gym assistant job, mac. You just don't have the right...form, for it you know?"

You say that's alright and you're here for something else entirely, but something indeed business related. "And what's that?"

>I need a body guard, one whose willing to get a little dirty, and one who can keep secrets.

>Listen I'm be frank with you Bruce. I'm planning on opening up a speakeasy and start running my own operation in this town. I need muscle if any of those mobsters out there are going to take me seriously

"Good man, consider me your right hand muscle...boss." He says with a chuckle. He tells he needs to finish closing down the gym and will see you tomorrow.

Next up is Candy Cane Jane, her small corner sweets shop of the same name is not that hard to find. However when you walk in you don't find a single child partaking in candy. Or much of anyone for that matter. When you ring the bell on the front counter she steps out from behind a curtain leading to the back room. The smell of bubbling chemicals can be heard in the back.

"Hm? Who is it? OH, it's you...Ernie, right?"

"Ernest."

"Right, right, sorry darling. How can I hit your sweet spot today?" She says slinging her signature candy cane...cane, to rest against her shoulder.

>Listen toots, lets not pretend we both think you're actually boiling candy back there. I need someone of your caliber to help me with my operation. Instead of taking side jobs from the big boys who think you're just a means to an end to my right hand gal in my gang. Get yourself some real respect.

>Candy Cane Jane, my favorite tart. If there's anyone who hits my sweet spot it's you darling. However I am not here for candy, I am her for you. I need a woman, a woman who can get things done, a woman who can bring a man to her knees...and then make him dispensary, permanently. I want to hire you on full time as it were.

>Jane I have an offer for you, and not your usual one I assure you. I don't want a one time clean up. I want you to be a part of my new gang, I got a speakeasy ready to go and muscle to protect it. With you I can bring in the money and make the trash disappear.

She tapes her nails alongside her cane for a moment thinking about it. "Fine...my regulars keep trying to stiff me anyway...LENARD!"

She screams and a extremely tall and thin man walks out from behind the curtain. "Lenard darling, big sis just got a business offer to work with this nice man over here. I'll need you to run more hours here at the store during the hours I'm with him okay?"

To this the man thing nods his head yes as he blinks one eye before the other and returning to the back,

She turns to you. "I got the looks in the family." You give her your address and tell her to meet you tomorrow.

You go home and sleep soundly with dreams of power. How shall you go about getting it tomorrow?

>Setup your speakeasy

You're still a "butcher" as far as the coppers are concerned and after hiring some fellow 'butchers" to help run the business your basement speakeasy, nicknamed The Meat Locker for obvious reasons, is quickly set up. With Candy's charm and connections, and Bruce making an excellent bouncer and door man word travels fast and you're pulling crowds in no time flat. You estimate you're going to be able to pull 250 a week after all the expenses and pay offs. That's more then most make in a month so you feel on the right track. We'll have to see if you make it to the next station though.

Tune in next time to see Ernest Bailey starts to become more then just a speakeasy owner.

So after the first week of managing the speakeasy you manage to rake in 250 dollars now giving you 750 to your name. However if you plan on running this town this is small potatoes compared to the whole of the city, but how shall you proceed?

You'll show them whose to be feared around here when you have thugs to back you up. With only 750 dollars you're to broke to afford decent henchmen, but sometimes quantity is it's own quality. It's time to hire some mooks, some street level punks to fill out the ranks but what kind?
