Everyone else has already said their goodbyes.

Right now your son, and most of his kids, are outside packing the car. It’s been an almost perfect week, filled with kids playing games and talking and filling up your ageing house with life once more.

Really, you think with a small smile, the house handled the excitement better than you did.

“Will you help me to my room before you go?” You ask David, your oldest grandson.

“Of course Grandma.” He says as gently slips one arm under yours and helps you to your feet.

“Such a strong young man.” You praise. He mutters something, looking away as your lips twitch into a smirk. Ah to be young and easily embarrassed.

Once you get your trembling hands on your walker, David sticks by your side. He begins talking about things: girls, school, siblings. You let the flow of words wash over you as maneuver around the clutter on the floor. Your eyes aren’t what they used to be, but the nurse will pick everything up when she comes by later.

By the time you make it to your bed your old heart is beating heavily in your chest. David helps you lie down, giving you one last hug that warms your frail bones. “Good bye Grandma, I love you.”

“I love you too, dear.”

“See you next time!”

You just smile as David leaves.

Outside, you hear the car start and slowly pull away. Your eyelids flutter weekly as you relax. It really was a wonderful week.

Ba-DUMP
Ah, your chest hurts a bit, but that’s nothing new. All the aches and pains you’ve picked up over the years were only exacerbated the past weeks excitement.

Ba-DUMP
All the same, you wouldn’t trade the last seven days for the world. Seeing the children was lovely. Though you barely remember what it was like to be that young, here at the waning edge of your life.

Ba-DUMP
You’re old, you acknowledge that, and your time has long since past.

Ba-DUMP
But still. It would be nice… to be young again…

You smile in you sleep, and let yourself slip into one last dream.
>>
There was darkness in the beginning, and there is darkness in the end. Nothing else unto remains. Floating currents of shadow and silt drift along the black ravines of nothingness. In this simple repose souls rest at long-

You are thrust from the gentle void into a harsh and cold light. It washes over you like a thousand needles driving into your skin. It steals the air from your lungs.

You need to breathe! You gasp at the air, but to no avail. You’re drowning in this freezing brightness. Something strong and firm grasps you by the ankles, inverting you in the air as if you weigh nothing more than a feather. Then a heavy blow strikes you back.

You choke, cough, and draw in breath, crying out against the indignity. You’re too old to be handles like this! “Congratulations, Sylia!” A too loud voice calls. “It’s a girl!” Then you are wrapped tightly in a blanket and pressed into another set of arms.

Their warmth chase away the cold, and their heartbeat thunder in your ears. A face swims above you, large and exhausted and kind. It… she, smiles down at you. “Hello my beautiful baby girl!” She whispers out. Somehow, she cradles you even closer, holding you warm and safe.
“What will you name her?”

You hear one last thing before your eyes flutter shut once more.
“Her name is-”

Welcome to RE: Human quest! RE: Human quest takes place in the same world as all the other RE: Monster quests out there, with one fundamental difference.
Instead of being a monster girl, you are a human, with all of the highs and lows that come with it.
Instead of evolutions, Humans have an advanced job system that allows them to fight on par with monsters, though they start out weaker.

Humans also aren’t fully grown within a matter of months, however, all of your childhood will be covered during the first thread. If there’s enough interest, we should also be able to begin your first adventure into the wider world.

And if you only play these quests for the giant spider who carries around the half-elf, harpy, and fluffy moth, be not afraid! There are many giant spiders in the world to give out headpats!

As for the rules. You roll a d100 for all tasks, to roll above a dice check. Abilities and Jobs will help you beat these checks, but you won’t have to worry about those until later.

Voting will be10-15 minutes in length, or first to three votes if the thread is slow. Then I will begin working on the next post

Your name is Adria, and you’ve been reborn into a new, albeit tiny body.

To be honest with yourself, It took you a while to figure that out. You kept swimming in and out of consciousness, sleeping even more than you did as a droopy eyed octogenarian. For the first few weeks, months even, maybe (you were hardly able to keep track of time), your thoughts were made of fluffy little clouds. Wispy and impossible to focus.

In part you blame the pretty shinies Mommy hung from the ceiling for you to look at.

That’s the other thing. The woman who gave birth to you in this life? You really do think of her as Mommy, but what’s wrong with that? Yes it's a childish name, but you're a baby so you have the privileged of acting like one!

The woman has tended to your every need for as long as this body can remember. And more besides, she’s played with you, cradled you close, and talked to you constantly. How could you possible view her as anything else than your mother?

She’s certainly done a better job than the last woman who bore the title.

You’ve done your best to be the perfect little girl for her. Part of that is, of course, despite the childishness of your thoughts sometimes, you really aren’t a baby and can deal with some things on your own.
Sometimes Mommy brags to her friends how you never wake her up at night.

But today… today you venture out into the wider world, beyond the crib! Mommy’s out with friends, and you can finally manage to climb over the edge of the crib and slide down to the floor.
It really wasn’t that hard, no wonder your kids managed it all the time.

But anyways, you have a limited amount of time before Mommy comes back, and an entire house to explore! Where do you look first?

>There’s a small wooden statue on that table.
>You remember a sword hanging from the wall in the front room.
>Books, books, books. Where are the books?

Books it is, fixing up the next post.
>>
>>40459060
You crawl out of the room, looking for a bookshelf. There’s a small pile of books in the corner, and you make your way over to it, gently tugging the top one onto the ground and flipping it open.

You pout. The letters aren’t English… even though that’s what everyone is speaking! That’s rather unfair.

But before you can really examine them further, the door to the room swings open. “Adria!” Your mother sweeps into the room with a surprised look on her face. “How did you get over here?”

You hold your arms in an approximation of a hug. Babbling happily at her, as you lips still can’t manage proper speech. And it’s kinda fun, burbling at people and watching them try to figure out what you’re saying.
Mommy picks you up with a sigh, glancing back towards your empty crib. You giggle.

“So that’s you kid, eh Sylia?” Another voice calls from the door way. “Yah didn’t tell me she so lively.”

“Usually she’s a good girl! But recently I just can’t seem to keep her in one place anymore.” She shakes her head. “Honestly! It’s as if the moment I leave the room she figures out something else to get into.”

“Really?”

Mommy nods glumly, turning to face the guest. “Last time it was the dirty laundry...” To be fair, the dress she had you in was uncomfortable, so you changed it.

You turn your head to the visitor and- MOTHEROFGODIT’SAGIANTSPIDERLADY!
“Adria,” Your mom says, “Say hello to Neru! She’s one of my closest friends.”
Really body? You haven’t been afraid of spiders since you were younger than your grandchildren! Then your mother holds you out for Neru to hold. Hold in her Black. Clawed. Hands.

You choke down your fear! She’s your mother’s friend after all! Oh, and her claws have some fur on them, so they probably aren’t as sharp and slicy as you first thought. Which is a definite plus. You can do this.

You smile up at her as she takes you into her arms. You can see your reflection in her eyes.

“Aww, who’s the pretty lil’ girl?” Neru croons. She just lights up as you give her the full package, happily burbling and giggling as she rocks you back and forth. See hind brain? The spider lady isn’t scary at all. You’ve seen women like this before, the ones who just love children and that finally sets your mind at ease.

You mother huffs good naturedly as she walks over, “Can I get my stuff Neru?” She asks.

“Huh?” Neru glances up for a second “Oh! yeah.” She pirouettes gracefully in the room, causing you to giggle happily. Your mom grabs a large basket off of Neru’s spiderhalf. Carrying it into another room. Meanwhile… Neru continues to play with you.

“Hey.” She asks. “Wanna see something cool?”

You burble something akin to a yes.

Balancing you on one arm she arches her legs (all eight of them, she’s almost too big for the room when standing up straight!) and reaches down with her other hand, pulling out… dear god is that web? Yes, yes it is, it’s a strand of webbing just a bit thinner than your baby pinkie. Your eyes widen.

“Spah- spaida!”

Neru grins. “Yes indeed.”

“What?!” You mom, who you missed do to Neru’s trick, cries out. “Her first word is spider?” She collapses to the ground in mock sorrow. “Where did I go wrong?”

You and Neru both laugh. Then you try and work your lips into a new shape. “Mahma” You chirp happily.

Suddenly your mom as walking on sunshine.

The three of you spend the rest of the afternoon with baby talk and playing around with Neru’s webs. Currently your baby fingers aren’t able to manipulate it but some day…”

“How’s this aunti Neru?” You ask, holding up the threads she gave you happily.

“That’s not bad girly!” Neru said. “Fer a second there I almost thought you were a drider myself!”
You giggle happily.

Despite your initial misgivings about walking spider people, you’re glad you were able to look past her form and realize what a wonderful person Neru is. In your first life… you weren’t the most understanding of others, and that’s why you’re making sure not to judge anyone by their appearance anymore.

Neru’s easy to get along with too. She’s always just around, and she’s shown up for all five of your birthdays, usual lying bringing the most interesting gifts.

She stands when your mom walks back in the door. “Ah. I gotta go now.” She says, looking sad about it. You nod and smile waving as she exits your house.
Then you glance at your mom, realizing that today is the deadline you set for yourself… You look away, fidgeting in your chair, webwork forgotten.

Your mom, as mothers do, notices your anxiousness. “Adria?” She sits down next to you, pulling you into her lap. “What’s wrong? Did you have fun with Neru?”

You nod. Neru’s not the problem it’s…
You take a deep breath, gathering your courage. “Mommy… where’s daddy?”

Your mother blinks once. Then

You are technically human.
All you will have are some cosmetic traits, and all of the options were to give you an unlock of a hidden class.

To be completely honest, the pendant is the only option where you aren't fully human.
Angel blood option just means you have a predilection to certain jobs, other pick was a full human father he was a sorcerer

If you guys really don't like it, I change the post, but it will take a bit to rewrite.
I do emphasize that you are completely human in every way that matters, just with the equivalent of a cool tattoo.

Your mother sets you in the chair next to her and pulls out a pendant. Strange, you’ve never seen it before. It’s a clear blue stone, carved and inset with several small gems, and carved in a way that makes you think of river currents and the waterfalls.

“He’s…” She smiles sadly. “He’s somewhere downstream.” Mom shakes herself and places the pendant down on the table. “I suppose now is as good time as any to tell you, they’re starting to some in. Wait a moment Adria?” You mom leaves the room and returns with a bronze mirror, handing it to you. “Check your reflection.”

You look at her in confusion. Mirrors aren’t common in this world, but then you couldn’t really care less about your appearance. Still you take her words at face value and look into the mirror…

You have silvery scales around your eyes, like a minnow. There are only three by each, so small that you can barely see them, but they’re there.

You look back at mom, but she is perfectly normally completely human and she doesn’t have scales at all and you do and-

Mom reaches out and brushes your hair “Shhh.” She pulls you into a hug stroking your back gently. “There’s nothing wrong with you honey, nothing at all.” A smile. “You get them from your father. He was a mer, and I met him by the sea.”

You nod once, then again, calming yourself. That makes sense, it’s more than a bit surprising, but there’s nothing wrong with it. You look up at mom silently asking her to continue.

“Well first off, you won’t be able to breath underwater.” She says with a smile. “You’ll have be able to see decently underwater, though nothing a normal person couldn’t do without some eye protection.” She smiles, “and if the amount of time you spend in the bath is any indication, you’ll certainly love swimming!”

You nod again, giggling slightly. Then you pause. “But why didn’t daddy come back home with you? There’s a river in the city…”

You mom sighs. “Mermaids are one Tymera’s chosen.” Upon your look of confusion she adds “Tymera is the river goddess, mother of life and creation. I’m actually one of her paladins, but anyway, mermaids are allowed free run of the river ways, but they don’t appreciate males of their species.” She sighs, “And Reiln, this city, is the only city were we could live together. There are no other places that span the rivers like this, and the cities on the ocean are distrustful of all Monsters. We parted ways shortly after you were conceived, and that was the last I saw of him.”

Well… Mermaids are apparently bitches.

The two of you sit in silence for a moment then your mother rouses herself.

“But enough of sad things.” She says. “I said I’d start teaching today. It’s a big world out there, so what do you want to learn first?”

“You want to learn about how things came to be?” You mom asks with a smile. “Well… long ago, before the age of humans, Miren was dry and pitiless, no rain fell from the heavens, and the sea was filled with sulfur. The goddess Tymera looked over the desert. Where the other gods saw what was, and made their creations fit to the sands and burning sun, Tymera saw what this land could be. And so she took her sword and cut open her palm, letting her holy blood drip down upon the world…

Closing the book you head back to your room to get dressed for a day at the market. A simple long skirt and matching tunic, nothing fancy. Then you check yourself over in your mom’s small bronze mirror.

At thirteen years old you’re starting to look more like a woman. Puberty was just as bad as you remember the first time around, but you appreciate no longer being completely flat chested.

You pull your short dark hair into a knot at the base of your skull, silver eyes (and scales, which have expanded a good deal since they first came in) flashing in the light as you step outside and head to the market district on the water.
You peruse the stalls when a flutter of wings to your left draws your attention. Perched on the awning of a stand is a harpy. Her large wingspan and yellow eyes mark her as a predator, and you feel unnerved under her gaze… like she’s contemplating how you would taste.

The feeling lasts until she opens her mouth.

“Heh heh! You’re a fish!” She proclaims gleefully.

Actually, according to the lore of the world (which I looked up) species depends primarily on the mother. After all, a normal human woman couldn't really give birth to something with a spider torso. And a normal human baby really couldn't survive in an egg.

So really, the choice was always going to be cosmetic.

Anyway...

===

You smirk at her. “And you’re a bird!”

She caws lightly to herself, it takes you a moment to realize she’s laughing. Tymera, she really is a bird. “You’re funny, Fishy!” She says. Flapping her wings once she lands on your shoulder, she’s surprisingly light.

You grin back at her as she nuzzles your hair lightly. She’s clearly just a kid, probably not more than a week old (they grow so damn fast…).

“Hey hey!” She chirps. “Can you help me out with something?”

"Hmm?"

“I’ma harpy!”

You cock an eyebrow, “Yes, yes you are.”

She nods vigorously, like a… (damnit) like a bird. You hate yourself a bit right now.

“And harpies catch prey by snatching them out of the air!”

“Okay.” She must be some time of eagle or hawk harpy. Are there multiple types? Or are they all the same. You ask. “So, umm, what type of harpy are you?”

“A Falcon Harpy, We’re the fastest ever, yes!”

You smile at her enthusiasm. “So, you’re a fast falcon harpy.” She nods. “So what do you need my help with?”

She freezes. Glancing down.
“C’mon.” You ruffle the feathers around her collar. “You can tell me.”

“I… catch stuff….”

“Hmm?”

She pouts. “I can’t catch stuff…” You blink. “So… I wanted Fishy to play catch with me.” And then she turns those big avian eyes on you, and their watering, and oh god that just isn’t fair!

You sigh. “Okay, let’s gather up some rocks. You can practice snatching them out of the air. I’ll give you pointers eh?”

She gives a cry of happiness (falcon indeed) and launches off your shoulder, leading your towards an open field just outside of the city.

Gathering up a handful of small stones, you begin pitching them into the air. Huh, she really is abysmal at this. But, if you could teach your children out to eat with their Mordac damned forks you can teach a harpy how to catch things!

“Don’t take your eye of your target! And try flaring your wings right as you get in range, so you don’t over shoot!”
“Yes!”

You spend the rest of the evening playing catch with a harpy.

It was fun, and the two of you make plans to meet up again later.

You’re wearing a giant grin on your face all the way home. You made a friend. Well, you made what you think is your first real friend, besides Neru. It’s a good feeling.

You sigh and roll your eyes as another Mermaid shoes you away from her stand with a glare and some harsh words. Somedays, you’re glad that you know Flowtongue, the nominal language of aquatic creatures, but really did she have to compare you to a Tymera damned kelpie?

You huff and start walking back home. As you’ve gotten older (and the scales around your eyes grew until they covered your cheek bones like too much eye shadow) you’ve grown increasingly tired of the subtle racism.

Mermaids are the only type of Monster really accepted in Reiln, the rest, halflings like you included, are merely tolerated. And while so far you’ve managed to hold back your blows and limit yourself to words, you’ve realized that this world is much more accepting of that sort of low key violence.

If you were a boy, it would have been considered a rite of passage.

You take a shortcut down an alleyway, and freeze when you come across two boys kicking someone on the grounds. You see a tail, wrapped around a slim form.

The boys are both bigger than you, but they haven’t seen you yet. And seeing this, after just getting blow off for being different?

You’re not going to let this happen.

One step forward and, whack! He tries to block, but when he’s covering his face you hit him hard in the stomach. And he goes down with a wheeze

There can only be one!
Okay no, you did not just quote Highlander in your head… darn it.

Anyway, you gesture menacingly with the sword. “Had enough tough guys?”

Apparently they have, cause they go running off with THEIR tails between their legs.

Turning around, you drop your improvised weapon and go over to the kid lying on the ground. It’s a young girl, with a red tail and red/black ears. She’s small too, like the fox she clearly represents.

She’s still cowering behind her tail, not peeking out even when the sound of footsteps echoed down the allyway. Gently you place a hand on her shoulder, but she flinches away.

“Hey,” You whisper, “Hey it’s okay, they’re gone now. You’re safe.” She glances at you, eyes appearing above the red fur she’s hiding behind. Her eyes dart around the alleyway, like caged birds trying to find an exit. “See? Everything’s-”

She’s on her feed before you even react and halfway down the alley in the other direction, casting not a glance behind her as she disappears into the shadows of a side stree.
You sigh. Sometimes you… dislike this city.

We should start carrying around a stick.
Those bullies are going to try to get more goons together and come after us. We should cripple a few the next time, break some arms and legs as well as noses..

And what are they going to do, admit that they were beat up by a girl?
>>
>>40464233
You don’t see the little fox girl again. Well, not directly. Occationally, over the next few years, you catch glimpses of a red tail or ears. Sometimes you chase a fleeting shape around a corner only for it to disappear. After a while you just accept it. She clearly doesn't want to talk, and although it isn't doing anything for your paranoia (not that you're paranoid), it's something you can live with.

On the other hand, Mom caught wind of your fight, and though she was proud of you for stepping in, she also took it as a sign that you had to begin REAL training...

“If you’re going to be getting into fights, then you must be able to win them.” Is what she said. And really, you’d agree whole heartedly, except for the fact that training kinda sucks. She even makes you take your first job! Actually, that was unbelievable. Jobs here grant people skills, it’s more than just a title it actually means something.

Of course, you’ve found, there is actual ability which matters as well. Jobs only help, in the end it all comes down to you.
But that’s what the past two years or so of your life have been. Outside of doing things with your Monster friends, you’ve been training your jobs as a

Here's the preliminary charachter sheet. I'll make a pastbin for next thread.

Name: Adria
Age: 17
Species: Human
Appearance: Short dark hair that gleams in the light. Her eyes are silver, and are surrounded by small silver scales, the kind you would see on a fish. She's on the taller side, and has tan skin from spending so much time outdoors with her Monster friends and training with her mom.

Personality: She’s lived a full life and has all the experience to go with it. That said, she views her second life as a sort of gift and intends to have fun with it, which leads to the oddest blend of mature and childish behavior.
Adria hates the racism she sees against Monsters and halflings like herself and will go out of her way to protect those people.

Family: Mother, Sylea, a caring ex adventurer and accomplished Paladin. Adria likes her more than her first mother.
Father, Feurith A mer who Sylea met when she was on a quest near the sea. Adria knows almost nothing about him.

Jobs:
Level 14 Light Swordsman: You’re a beginner, but a good one.
Skills: Stance
Level 15 Wizard: Magic makes sense, despite how nonsensical it is
Skills: Combat Casting

Abilities:
Weaving: Rank 5
Trained by a master web spinner.
Bluff: Rank 2
You’re good at pretending not to be scared.
Knowledge History: Rank 4
Why learn too much about the world when you can experience it?
One Handed Swords: Rank 3
You can use a sword, ostensibly.
Lighting Magic: Rank 5
You really enjoy zapping things, but lighting magic is hard to control!

Specials:
Riverspeech
Literate
Friendship of Arachnae
Flowtongue
Protector of the innocent

Property:

Skill Descriptions by Class:
Light Swordsman Skills:
Stance +1 to all roles,
Wizards Skills:
Combat Casting, being in combat does not affect your ability to use magic.

Unlocked Jobs:
Alchemist, Explorer, Archer, Cleric, Tailor
>>
>>40465148

Unlocked jobs are jobs you can level, but doing things related to said job. However, unless you find someone to teach you, those jobs will start at level one. They begin giving benefits at level ten, but level quickly before then.

Property is for notable items, mementos, weapons, special items. It assumed that you always have food and clothes unless specifically stated otherwise.

Any questions before the last string of posts?
>>
>>40465171
Jesus a christ man....And this is your first time running a quest!?
>>
>>40465191
I've been lurking a lot. And since the job system is the most important aspect of RE for humans, I spent a week going over source material working things out.

Character sheet design is unabashedly stolen from RE: QM
>>
>>40465171
No real questions right now.
I assume we can grind abilities, since they seem more important than the Jobs.
>>
>>40465241
Abilities are better for actions that ability falls under, but they're limited.

Jobs are what give you passive and active skills, which are what allow you to stand up to monsters and other things that are intrinsically more powerful than you.

Also, it's actually jobs you grind. using active skills and having people teach you can raise job level, but only experience raises ability level.

Also, still working on the last post. Shouldn't be too much longer.
>>
>>40465317
Just realized we could be that lightning knight off of Nanatsu no Taizai
>>
>>40465317
You’ve learned the dual arts of magic and swordplay, and though you’re still a beginner at both, at the very least, you will not be a sitting duck for the monsters of the world.

At 17 years old, you know how to wield a sword, and conjure lightning from your fingertips, among other interesting things. You grin as you let lightning spark across your palm. Never gets old.

Your mom walks out of the house and joins you on the front porch. It’s morning, and the two of your share a smile before she walks forward and hugs you. “My little girl, all grown up.”

“Mooooom” You whine, even as you hug her back even harder, hiding your face against her neck. “I’m not a little girl!” Inwardly (and externally you admit) you’re grinning. It’s been fun playing the embarrassed teenager. Even when you mom actually does manage to embarrass you.

“Of course you are.” She huffs. “No matter how big you get you’ll always be my little girl.”
You smile. “Yes mom.”

Pulling back you check yourself over once more, straightening out your tunic and swordbelt. With your mothers help, you put on your light cuirass (she had it made for you when it looked like you’re stopped growing) along with your greaves and wrist guards. On you hip rests your sword, but with magic, you’re never truly unarmed.

Tymera you love saying that.

But in any case, you’re going to look for your first job as an adventurer today, and you want to look the part.

With one last hug you leave the house, waving at your mom as you walk towards the marketplace. One the way they Sreea swoops out of the sky and lands lightly on your shoulder. Giving you a grin. “Hello fishy!”

“Hey there Sree,”

“Where are you headed?”
You grin. You can barely believe you actually doing this. You pause for a moment, tasting the words on your tongue before saying them gleefully.

“I’m going on a quest!”

I'll stick around for a bit to answer any questions. Also, my twitter is @argentorum

I hope to run the next quest tomorrow at about six, will tweet something beforehand.

So how did I do guys? What should I do more of? What should I change?

Abilities give a dice modifier to rolls, jobs give skills which you can use, both actives and passives.

For example, a level 100 knight will have the ability "The Meaning of Chivalry" Which means he deals additional damage and takes no damage for a period of time when defending his code of Chivalry.
