Always the cheery one eh Overshine?
>>

.........screw it, I'll risk a phonecall. Theresa always seemed kind of annoyed when I text her anyways, and I'd hate to wake her up by getting on her nerves.

Stowing away my misgivings, I hit send...

Ringing.

More ringing.

Crap, she's asle-

"Hello?" Theresa calls out on the other end of the line just as I was about to give up. "Cecile?"
"Yeah, it's me," I say.
"Hey..." she mumbles. "...I just woke up a few minutes ago."

Nice timing, me.

"You're calling about that text I sent last night, right?" Theresa asks. "I made it home just fine, if you were worried about that."

>[1/?]
>>
Mina and Sun Mi are best waifus. Too good for Cecile and deserve each other. Just like in PGQ.
>>
Overchan only wants us with Theresa because she is mentally unstable, and it helps him get us the same way so he can take over. Char already beat hers and is the best chance at helping us beat overchan, and is thus a threat to him.
>>

>>

Stay butt hurt Overshine.
>>
>>40460402

>>
Char was a natural choice I feel. She had a mystique that the others lacked. Irene had /something/ going on but it wasn't as interesting as the chick who seemed to be talking to animals and wore only frilly dresses. We took it on faith that Mina and Theresa were just our friends and so our fate was sealed.
>>
>>40460488
Irene also had the baggage of coming with doritos.
>>
>>40460395
>[2/2]

"Yeah," I reply, "you already-"

Wait a minute, she doesn't remember? At all?

Crap, that means that my earlier call was DEFINITELY her alternate personality. While it's a relief that the real Theresa wasn't the one who was hitting on me, it's still kind of alarming.

"Something wrong?" Theresa asks.
"Yeah, well..." I mumble. "...you already told me about that."
"Huh?"

She sounds completely confused.

"No I didn't," Theresa says. "I didn't send any texts after that one last night, and I -just- woke up..."
"Yeah, well I called a little while before getting home and we had a full conversation."

I will omit the part about her hitting on me.

"...Theresa?" I call out after the phone's been mute for a while.
"God fucking DAMN it," Theresa growls. "So now she's waking up before I do and..." she groans.

"Shit..." Theresa sighs. "What did she tell you?"
"About the video and that you got home safe and that stuff," I reply. "I was calling to see if it was okay if I could come over and maybe watch it, but if you're not up to it then-"
"What!?" Theresa gasps. "YOU want to come over HERE?"
"......yeah?" I shrug. "I mean, we -are- friends and all."

There's a long pause before Theresa starts talking again.

"Guess I ought to take a shower right now, then," Theresa mumbles.
"So it's okay?" I ask. "You sure?"
"Yeah, whatever," Theresa replies. "I'll make sure to keep control so she doesn't do anything weird while you're over here."

That's... slighty reassuring.

"I'll be over in a bit, then," I say.
"Yeah," Theresa mumbles. "See you later."

Theresa seemed really upset after I told her about that first call... I hope my coming over to visit isn't too much for her to deal with. It's like she's been forcing herself lately and now I'm more worried about that than I was before.

Especially when I take into account the stuff that Charlotte told me about her own alternate personality way back when.

But she also said that you can't get overtaken unless your mental state is really messed up, so I just need to do my best to be a good friend to Theresa and be there for her and stuff and she ought to be alright.

With that in mind, I push myself up from my wonderfully comfortable position on the couch and get a good stretch in, then make sure I have everything on me that I'll be needing for the day since I have no intention to come back over here before tomorrow.

Wallet... phone... my new game system... yup, that's about everything. Allison likes to tease me about not carrying a purse, but I never liked being weighted down with all the extra crap that inevitably comes with those.

With all my stuff confirmed to be on my person, I say goodbye to Allison and then hurry upstairs to say goodbye to my plants. From there, I finally leave for Theresa's house.

Meh, calling her up from here is just pointless when the doorbell's within reach. So, I lean over, push it a couple of times and then wait.

Before maybe twenty seconds have passed, the door starts to slide open...

"Oh my!"

Two small hands drop down onto my shoulders.

"Well look who it is!" Christine says rocking me back and forth.
"Umm, hi," I say, smiling weakly. "It's nice to see you again."
"That's my line!" she laughs. "I haven't seen you since that one day at the hospital!"

"Your mother said that you left some picture of a witch outfit down here," I say, "and I guess the girl wearing it looked like me so..."
"Wha-" Theresa vanishes from sight.

It's THAT bad?

A few seconds later, she reappears where she was standing before, only with her hands covering her face.

"Dammit why did she tell you about that..." Theresa mumbles. "It WASN'T a witch costume."
"But it -was- supposed to be me wearing it?" I ask.

"I'm not worried about it," I reply as I feel myself losing to my urge to tease her. "...but exactly was it supposed to be if it wasn't a witch?" I say, materializing a few butterflies around myself.

I take a few steps back to create some distance between the two of us. While it's true that Theresa's alternate personality is creeping me right the hell out at the moment, I still don't want to make an enemy of it. Partially because it's sharing a body with my friend, partially because her ability is... worrisome, to put it lightly.

I don't want to pick a fight with her and end up stealth-molested or pantsed or something.

Protip: If it makes heat, a LOT of heat, (and you aren't in a vaccuum), you don't need to touch it for it to hurt you.

This is why ppl at the laser lab (shout outs to building 15 laser lab, and shout outs to building 19 is a maze is a meme) wear protective goggles. Whatever the laser's hitting becomes rapidly expanding gas, and globs of very hot molten material. Combine the two, and they can (and have) splatter on fucking everything.

To an extent you're right. If you focus solely on that all the time it would definitely eat away at you.
At the same time though, she's had absolutely no one to talk to about this. Mina isn't speaking with her and her mother is out of the loop. Really Cecile is the only support that Theresa has right now.
>>
I guess the first step in helping Theresa out is to try and figure out the specific circumstances that cause her alternate personality to come out... but first, we head upstairs to her room and close the door behind us. Though Theresa seems kind of nervous about having me in her room after what happened, her slight discomfort is better than having Christine overhear us and ship Theresa off to a mental hospital or something,

"So..." I say, sitting on the bed next to her, "does the 'other you' come out a lot?"
"I don't know if I'd call it 'a lot,'" Theresa replies, "but she talks to me at least a few times a day. She doesn't take control then, though..."

Has your only experience with horny teenage girls been anime?

Horny teenage girls pairbond like crazy.
Most will find the most alpha male who will accept them and latch onto him with the force of 1000 suns.
Some will form a mutual pairbond with the person who most resembles "the person I wanna be".
A few of the kinkier ones will find one cute submissive boy and treat him like some kind of incestuous younger brother.

I don't know exactly what the lesbians do but judging from the lack of lesbian threesomes in my highschool, they're pairbonders as well.

Quick thought. Suppose that there exists an FDQ RPG. Crunch-wise, how do personalities work?

1) How is a branch decided upon during character creation? A die roll, or is it point buy? In the latter case, nastier personalities would presumably give more points to spend elsewhere. (Obviously, Cecile's player is a minmaxer. Charlotte's is a very successful minmaxer.)
2) What mechanical reason is there for a character entering a Trance? Is there a skill check for resisting the switch?
3) Who controls the character during a Trance? The player, or the GM? Perhaps dice are involved, for particularly unpredictable personalities?

"As long as the other you's not into diabetic old men, that is," I say, smirking.
"I'm pretty sure that she's as gay as I am," Theresa sighs. "It'd be nice if it never came to that, though..."
"The only other thing I could think of is for you to find someone else," I say, shrugging. "Gabrielle's way cuter than I could ever even hope to be, and she's head-over-heels for you, you know..."

Theresa cringes at my suggestion.

"Yeah she's cute but she's into my alter-ego which she thinks is a -dude-," she says. "Not to mention that that's just... really weird."
"Sorry, I thought it was worth a shot," I mumble.
"If nothing else, I at least feel a little bit better about this whole thing," Theresa says, patting me on the shoulder. "So thanks for that."

She shows a faint smile that makes me feel slightly less guilty about the drama that my presence apparently causes.

1) Both would work I think.
2) Letting it happen, and a hostile takeover. The latter would obviously require a roll to resist.
3) Player. You never take control away from players in any game.

Either would work, and Branches would likely be treated the same as individual character classes would in another system. Personality type would be picked through a random chart.

>2) What mechanical reason is there for a character entering a Trance? Is there a skill check for resisting the switch?
Access to advanced level abilities in exchange for a forced will save when trying to perform most non-combat-related actions until the effects wear off. The more Trance is used, the higher the DC gets.

>3) Who controls the character during a Trance? The player, or the GM? Perhaps dice are involved, for particularly unpredictable personalities?
Player.
>>
>>40468595
>1) How is a branch decided upon during character creation?
There must always be at least 2 players, who have friendly rivalry and enjoy screwing with each-other. You can encourage this by making some of the players' goals similar, but other of the players' goals different.
Player 1 describes and determines Player 2's altpersonality.
Player B describes and determines Player A's altpersonality.

>2) What mechanical reason is there for a character entering a Trance?
Trance has a will of its own. When the main players' will coincides with the altpersonality's, trance happens. Or, when the main player has their jimmies rustled, the altpersonality takes over until they calm down.
>3) Who controls the character during a Trance?
If Player B determined the trancing player's altpersonality, then Player B and the trancing player co-operate. This is also why trancing only happens when the two players could co-operate, though Player B is encouraged to undermine the trancing player somehow in order to rustle their jimmies and assume direct control.

It's a Player-vs-player system where, instead of killing other players, you troll and inconvenience the shit out of them.

"And now to change the subject entirely," I say.
"Huh?" Theresa seems confused.
"About that video..."

Y'know, the entire reason I came here.

"Oh yeah!" Theresa slaps herself on her forehead. "Of the 'number two' guy and those jerks we fought last night..." she says as she pushes herself up from the bed and walks over to her closet.
"It's not on your computer?" I ask. "Or your phone?"
"What?" she sounds shocked that I'd even suggest such a thing.

"It's SO easy to break into phones and steal data," Theresa says, "I'd never leave anything important on those. And ESPECIALLY not secret video of people who I'm not even supposed to have ever met."
"Oh yeah," I mumble. "Like how all those naked pictures of celebrities were leaked onto the internet..."
"Exactly, only a retard would do that."

you fit that description

"And if I had the data on my PC," Theresa says, "it'd be open for anyone who broke in here to get. Burglars, the cops, assassins..." she goes on.
"So where is it then?" I ask.
"Right here," Theresa replies, emerging from her closet with a tiny memory card. "The shoulder clasp for my cape has a tiny camera in it just in case I need to use it."

I guess that explains how she took that first video that got her into so much trouble.

"And it's all stored on this card," she says, placing it in the palm of my hand. "Hold onto that for a minute for me."
"Uh, sure."

She spends the next few minutes rummaging through a drawer that's filled with a bunch of old electronic stuff until she finally pulls out a crappy-looking camera.

"It's dangerous to watch it on my PC even directly from the card, which is why I have this," Theresa says while proudly displaying the piece of junk that looks almost too obsolete to even be sold at a thrift store.

"Just recent enough to be compatible with the memory card while being too old to hook up to the internet or have any internal memory..." Theresa says with a satisfied grin. "...I knew this thing would come in handy."
"Umm, congratulations," I shrug.

All this stuff just kind of flies right over my head.

"The memory card, Miss Navarre?" Theresa holds out her hand.
"Here you go," I reply as I return it to her.
"Aaaaand...." Theresa says while holding the camera in one hand and the card in the other. "...slot in!"

Like she's putting on a show, Theresa flips the card around in her fingers while quickly drawing her hands together. Just as the camera-hand passes the card-hand, she slides it into the slot and flips the cover shut, then spins it around in her hand and presents it to me.

The only thing I can think to do in response is clap.

"Whenever you are," I reply.
"Okay then..."

After pressing as few buttons, Theresa hands me the camera and leans over so she can see the screen too.

The resolution's kind of crap, but I can still make out what's happening in full. It looks like the camera's standing off to the side while a middle-aged guy in an expensive-looking suit stares down those guys that we beat up last night.

"Is the job done?" the middle-aged man asks. "My employer paid a lot of money for the two of you, and he expects results."
"We found the guy who took the video, yeah," Glenn replies.
"And?"
"And his friends kicked our asses," he snaps at him. "Among which was a girl who was able to... I don't fucking know, she STOLE my swords and used them against me!?"
"What!?" the man screams.

That was definitely not the answer that he wanted to hear.

"Then you can track down the others!"

The middle-aged man grabs Morrissey by the collar while screaming profanities at him. I have no idea why he doesn't just numb his arm and break free, but whatever.

"Give me a description and I'll have someone ELSE find out where they live!" he shouts.
"No," Morrissey replies. "There's no point in doing that."
"What? Why!?"
"We already know who one of them is," Glenn replies. "And she ain't someone who I want to mess with again."
"Is this the girl who rendered you completely USELESS?"

The man's ranting is stopped by a light sword held inches away from his face.

"You say another word about my mother and this goes right through your face," Glenn snarls.
"You..."
"Don't worry about the money, I already wired it back," Glenn says. "I quit, this ain't worth it."
"Same," Morrissey says, producing a huge stack of bills and dropping them on the floor next to him. "You can tell your boss that this job isn't worth our lives."
"Wha-" he stammers. "BOTH of you-"

The second that Glenn lets his light sword face, the enraged man takes a swing at Morrissey.

I cringe as his fist connects, sending the blue-haired Branch holder's sunglasses flying across the room.

"Harrison, you tell the old man that he gets that one for free," Morrissey says. "I betrayed his trust and I do apologize for that since I -am- a professional."

In the blink of an eye, Morrissey's arm darts right towards the man's head.

"But if YOU ever cross me again," Morrissey says, his hand spread across the man's face, "then I'll paralyze your trachea and watch you suffocate."

He then lets go of the man, sending him crumpling to the ground.

"So do you have this game too?" I ask.

Her and Mina have huge collections, and I'm pretty sure that Gabrielle's taste in games is the same as theirs, so...

"Mmhmm," Theresa says while rifling through a stack of game cases. "Right here."

She holds up a box... and yup, it's the exact same one as what I have.

"It's not a multiplayer game," Theresa says, "but I can show you a few pointers if you want."
"Umm, sure," I say, shrugging.

Taking the game card out of its case, Theresa picks her console up from off her computer desk and walks back over to the bed where I'm sitting.

"so where'd you leave off?" Theresa asks.
"I was right here..." I say, turning my own game on and selecting the one that I was playing. "Cool, it saved where I was."

With everything all set up, Theresa watches me run through the stage from where I left off, killing and eating and copying powers from the enemies that I run across.

...heh, I guess copied the "sword" ability too.

At the same time as I play through my game, Theresa somehow rushes through her own, stopping at the parts that she thinks that I'd have difficulty with. As expected of someone who's completely into this stuff, she predicts the areas where I'd get stuck with 100% accuracy.

It's actually kind of humbling... not that I have any "pride of a videogamer" to begin with. 'Cuz I'm a casual.

With her help, I copy ability after ability and manage to defeat every boss that I come across until I finally clear the section of the game that I was playing. For someone like me who's never beaten any game before (or even owned one to beat), it's a pretty nice feeling.

"Okay," Theresa says, stretching out her arms as the credits roll, "that's it for this one. How about you start on the Great Cave..."

It's only 3:30 right now so if I leave right now then I should make it there in time...

SUPER MEAT BOY.
It's the perfect entry level game.
Starts off easy, then gets damn difficult.
Literally a 4button game (5 if you include the menu button) so the controls won't screw with new players.
NOT casual, but playable by casuals.

And after that I'd advise 2hu Perfect Cherry Blossom. Sevenbutton game (8 including menu), complex, hard, but if your movement is up to Dark Cotton Alley levels you'll be able to do it. Also noncasual.

From there I recommend a "Learn how to use the mouse" game like Serious Sam Second Encounter or a "Learn how to use a joystick" game like Super Mario 64, depending on which control system you'd like to go with.

From there, play either Quake 3 Arena, or Devil May Cry 3, depending on if you're going mouse or joystick.

Congrats! You have de-casualed.

Since I'm here, I might as well go and check out the flowers. It's been quite some time since the last time I really was able to, and with any luck something new has bloomed.

Admiring the sights as I walk, I trudge along the paved sidewalk that serves as the main walkway here, winding around baseball diamonds and swingsets until I finally reach what I was looking for- the flowerbed.

Separated by gravel, there are several rows of open soil that have different types of flowers planted here. The rosebushes that line the area are around year-long, but whatever gardeners they have here tend to plant new types of flowers as the old one wilt and die. And luckily for me, it looks like they've just been here within the past few days.

Row by row, all of the flowers around here have just bloomed and look absolutely beautiful. Since I'm the only person here, it's like I get to monopolize this view all for myself.

But on further view, I'm not the only one here after all. All around, I see bees floating from flower to flower as if they're ignoring gravity outright, as well as birds soaring overhead...

...and knowing how paranoid Charlotte is about my meeting up with Irene, I bet she's got Loki somewhere around h- oh, there he is.

"Hey Loki!" I call out, waving to the familiar crow as he sits perched in the highest tree in the area.

Focusing back on the ground, I take a few steps backwards so that I can get a decent view of the whole flower bed in its entirety. I'm almost jealous of the skill involved in setting up the flower arrangements that bring out the colors of everything so well...

...and the butterflies fluttering all over the place with their erratic flight patterns are like the perfect finishing touch.

IIRC, last time we looked at them closely we started picking up some neat ultraviolet stuff. Maybe we'll see some more interesting things now that we're more advanced.

I would rather control over diversity at this stage since we got the swords.

There are true dendrites as well anon. We just need to...reach out and touch them.

Huh. Looks like it's a tie.

And so, the final vote of this thread will be final destination-style.

This is not a final destination vote, but might be useful in case of tie.

Also my captcha contains a spider.
