Your brilliant plan to find out how long it will take your tail to grow back has hit a stumbling block. Literally since the stumbling block was sleeping in the threshold to your house and you weren't paying attention to what was under your feet. In your defense, you are still reeling from the loss of your precious tail. You're also still reeling trying not to fall down from tripping on something but that'll sort itself out shortly.

Because you'll either fall down or accidentally run head first into a wall trying to correct your balance.

Falling seems less like a thing you'd have to explain later. So you carefully allow yourself to land on the floor in a sprawl, before turning to glare at your sister who continues to doze peacefully in the light streaming through the door to your house.

Somehow, you forgot about her sleeping habit. Also somehow, she can be kicked fairly hard and not wake up. You actually have a hard time remembering times she's been awake. Even at food time you'd fail to notice her unless paying close attention. Most of the time she just was asleep in one spot then the next time you see her she's asleep by the place food was dispensed.

How she is managing to get to the healer's place to learn stuff is a mystery to you. How to wake her up long enough to talk is a more pressing mystery.

You sit yourself down in front of your sister and stare at her. Her stareproof armor is strong though so you'll need more direct weaponry.

"Hey," you say.

Nothing.

"Hey," you repeat more insistently.

Still nothing.

"HEY!" you yell.

Koma continues to ignore you using her high verbal combat sleeping skill.

There's gotta be a way to wake her up. Though if she sleeps anything like you bask it'll be tricky. That sparks another idea. You walk around your sister and grab her. By the hips. You're not the type to go around grabbing other lizard's tails. That'd be unconscionable. You spend a moment mourning your own tail again. Using your new grip you pull her out of the sunlight. That'd stop any of your basking cold.

Koma, just curls into a ball and says something about your lineage. Which means she didn't even wake up to see who moved her or else she'd realize she just insulted herself as well.

You're pondering more ways to try waking her up when auntie walks in. The look on her face says she's survived an ordeal. Her appearance and odor make you think she went camping someplace and wrestled a cat. Also she's carrying a massive bag of something that smells like grass, but different.

The moment auntie sets down the bag Koma jerks into alertness and looks around sniffing. She sets eyes on Auntie and her bag and glares at her like auntie was the one insulting her honorable ancestors a minute ago and not Koma herself.

"Why do you smells like cat? And why are you covereds in cat fur?" you ask auntie. That's going to drive you insane. You know she can kill cats but the only blood on her smells REALLY old and nothing like cat blood. Wait you know what cat blood smells like? Apparently you do. Nice work brain.

Auntie let's out a tired sigh and mumbles something about sharing a cave with one last night. You're not sure what that is supposed to mean. She seems really put out about it though.

"What about the grass?" you ask, poking her bag.

"Hm?" she looks at you like she just noticed you're here. When was the last time she slept?

"It's wakeweed," an unfamiliar voice says, deep and just quiet enough that you worry you'd miss it if you didn't pay attention. You turn to look at it. Oh it's Koma. You don't think this is the first time you've talked but you do think it's the first time you've heard her off information on her own. Or seen her stay awake once no one was forcing her to stay awake. "And she's very rude for bringing it in here," Koma continues in a grumble, her speech has a weird accent.

"You can smells what it is from there?" Auntie asks, surprised, "If your nose is that good you'll be a good healer."

"So they keep telling me," Koma yawns, then looks at you, "What happened to you? Where's your tail?"

You give her a flat look. "Oh you knows, I was just killings a giant crab god and thoughts to myself, Self, I'd looks a lot thinner without that fat ole tail." You turn to auntie. "Mom says she'll be on the beach a couple days. She lost a leg and and arm."

"Again?" Auntie says sounding tired. "Alright."

"So a giant crab burned off your tail and you're a little tailhurt about it?" Koma asks. You think you hear amusement in there but you'll ignore that.

You nod and ask her when it'll grow back.

She shrugs. "IF it grows back it could take from 3 months to a couple years. Unless you rank up again. That usually comes with a full heal job I'm told."

"What do you means 'IF?' My tail'll grow back. It'll grows back, right?" you ask frantically.

She shrugs again. "I'm not trained enough to tell that. You'll need a proper healer. But it's really not worth worrying about." She yawns and stands up.

"Where are you goings?"

"Somewhere away from the wakeweed," she tells you, "Stuff gives me nightmares."

"It gives you nightmares?" Auntie asks, confused.

"About not being able to sleep," Koma explains.

Auntie lays down but doesn't appear ready to sleep yet even if she is yawning more than Koma.

"Wasn't I supposed to take something for a run into the human town?" you ask her.

She blinks. "Oh yeah. Kuru said she'd get the stuff for you before she left yesterday."

Halfway out the door Koma stops and looks back over her shoulder. "Kuru was here earlier. She left and said she had to grab some stuff."

"That's probably it then," auntie nods, then she looks at her bag of grass, "I should probably put this away." She says before forcing herself up.

"You actually woke up when someone talked to you?" you call after Koma.

"She asked nicely!" she calls back.

Huh. Wonders never cease. You help auntie take the bag out back and stick it in a large earthenware jar. Then you tap the lid shut tight. Kuru meets the both of you walking back into the house. She's hauling a large bale of something dark green and salty smelling. Some kind of seaweed maybe?

"Oh Sunny," she says when she sees you, "I got all the weed everyone got. It's already paid for and no one wanted anything from the town, so you can do what you want with the money from selling it." She puts the bale down next to you. You're not sure you can stand on two legs and carry that without a tail. It'll be interesting to try. "Though you should ask your mom if she wants anything. It was her money I spent."

[2/2]
You nod and consider the bale. You guess you could make the store run today. From what Auntie told you it'll take you about a day to get down there and you've spent most of your daylight already.

Alternatively you could go look into that hole your brothers mentioned. That wasn't close by but you could probably get in and out of it, and back here in time to leave tomorrow morning for the town.

Or you could go explore the area around your house for a while. There're a couple stretches of swamp you haven't been to, and the mountain is completely unexplored.

You explain your plan to auntie and she shrugs. She still looks tired but she's hiding it pretty well. If you hadn't seen her when she came in you probably wouldn't notice.

After gathering up your stuff, as well as some rope on the off chance you can't climb a thing normally, you head out. The hole is a couple hours away, and the sun is pretty low in the sky by the time you arrive. It looks like your brother described it. Moss covered stone over a spot where the earth dips down. The top edge of the stone is an artificially straight line opposed to the natural shape of the dirt and mud of the bottom. He failed to mention the sign that some other lizard clawed their way out of the hole recently.
Not frantically clawing but just natural clawing. It's pretty hard not to claw things when you've got decent size claws. Judging by the gouges in this hole it looks like the lizard that climbed out was your size. Bit odd though you don't see any sign from when they climbed into the hole.

You shimmy into the hole and put claw to wall. The inside is a square vertical shaft of stone with regular opening where mud, water, and the occasional root are jammed in. As you go down you carefully follow the marks left by the lizard that was climbing out before you. You spot a couple spots where the rock has crumbled enough that had you taken that path instead, unable to see it, the rock would have dropped out from under you.

About 20 feet down the shaft extends out into a larger room. It's a trick getting under the lip without falling down. You turn up the glow as you hang from the ceiling. It looks like some kind of big room with a broken hourglass in the center elevated a little off the ground. If you'd missed your step you'd have probably have hit that.

Once you reach ground level you start finding bodies. Not lizard bodies. Some elf dude with round ears. Like the top half of a mermaid with an elf's legs. A half-elf. The one you find first, near the edge of the room by a doorway out into a hallway, is riddled with little holes all up his back. You can find a faint hint of magic hovering over the damage but can't tell anything else about it. A quick search finds a book on his person, soaked with blood and with a fat hole in it. You try to pry it open but its illegible.

There are a couple other corpses in the room, all of them inexplicably similar to the first except with different injuries. They're also all stripped of valuables. Though you do find a copy of that book that's not covered in blood. It was left next to a pile of camping supplies, similarly raided for anything valuable. Three of the bodies were arranged around the broken hourglass. The bottom bell of the glass is shattered, surprisingly it breaks outward. Which might explain the holes in the front of the guys around it.
[1/2]
>>
>>40481150
[2/2]
You have no idea what happened here. The bodies without the odd holes in them are savaged by a lizard. Or lizard-like monster. But no they're basically torn up the way you'd have if you suddenly found yourself in a room full of men who need to die.

You flip through the book. It's got less damage than the others but there's still bits missing. You manage to piece together some things. Apparently the man here was some kind of wizard. He talks about searching long and hard for a place where time power would still be focused for his experiments. Apparently he designed a spell to summon a version of himself that made different decisions. With enough power he'd be able to get a version of himself that spent his entire life studying time magic and together they'd take over the world. The last entry you can make out talks about issues he's having. Every version of himself he summons is from earlier that day after deciding what to have for breakfast. Apparently a couple of them were pooling their power to do a variant of the spell to summon the strongest version of them that would be in this place. The last line is weird.

"Oh damn it what did they summon and why is it in the hourglass?"

You're not super clear on dates, but judging by the smell the bodies have only been down hear for a day or so. Apparently something murdered them and then the other lizard came by and stole all their shit. Leaving nothing for you.

Response? What do now?

You check the book more closely trying to find more about how the time magic worked. It appears whoever this guy was he was the only time mage he ever met. Heh. The only time mage he ever met, and he met him several times. Actually counting the number of times his spell succeeded there aren't enough corpses in the room. You look closer and find something about using magical foci to keep the alternate versions of himself temporally stabilized. You're pondering what half of those words mean when one of the bodies in the center of the room begins to glow with a greenish light before vanishing. What.

You find a couple of lines of magical stuff for some piece of time magic and try casting it. Absolutely nothing happens. Your mana doesn't even respond to the shape you were trying to do, per the notes' instructions. You move over to the hourglass and try again. Still nothing... You're not sure if this spell is just too hard for you or if the wizard didn't put the proper methods for doing it in the book. Or maybe that special power he was using to summon himself ran out when they did the big spell that got them killed. From what you remember in your crash course in magic it could be any of those things.

You give the room another once over, carefully examining everything, including the hourglass. You find that the bottom plate of the hour glass fell down when the bottom section of glass supporting it shattered. You find a couple wet spots you can't really explain. And one trail of old blood leading into one of the hallways. You also find a staff that fell into one of the sections of decorative stone around the room when the time wizard on the raised dais died. There's a neat rock in it but you can't seem to get it to do anything. You try the magic again at the hourglass with the staff, just to be safe. Still nothing.

>>
>>40482271

The staff itself is about 5 feet of subtly twisting wood timed with a round piece of glass that looks like it's still molten at the center. There're striations of light that pulse in time with your heartbeat.

After spending a couple minutes venting mana, which you probably should have done sooner but there's something comforting about having a little bit of sun in you when underground, you pull in extra local mana to try the spell a last time. This time you feel a weird undercurrent in the mana. It's not much and with what you pulled in you get the feeling there wasn't much there to begin with. You try casting the spell and find that the weird magic, while not willing to work with you, does let you make something similar to it from the other raw mana. It's enough to brute force the spell at any rate.

The spell begins to resolve and you can feel it straining, trying to pull something through to this place. The course of the magic falls into the same path as last time, following a path of least resistance, and you have no idea how to alter it. Anyway you can feel whatever path WAS there erase itself as you run over it. The spell connects to your target and you feel it grab on. Then you feel it start to slip. The magic you have insufficient to pull it back to this location.

You force more mana into something approaching the right shape and chuck it into the spell. The spell chokes a bit but it takes the energy and you feel it reach out, then you feel it reach back. Oh come on it isn't even reaching through time anymore, just space. You're not sure how you can tell that but there it is. It looks like it's trying to find whatever it pulled through last time.

With a final coughing blast the time space spell rips open a hole and you see a tube of nothingness reaching out to some other place. On the other side you can just make out a tail whipping around in the flow of air that's currently blowing in your face.

"No, not again. Don't wants things to get even worse," you hear yourself yelling. Which is kind of odd. Your voice sounds wrong. Also you can't see really well but you think the tail is the wrong color. You can't turn that particular shade of speckled blue black and white. Or any shade of white with those other colors.

The spell continues to pull on the other lizard and you see its legs show up in the hole leading through the tunnel. Books and a couple other items are sucked in and spin out into the void, the spell failing to pick up and direct things unrelated to its target.

It looks like the lizard on the other end is having trouble staying out of the portal. You give the spell a mental flick and the magical construct quivers ahking the lizard on the other end and disrupting their grip completely. They slip into the hole and flow through it. You step aside as the spell deposits the unhappy lizard in the air where the hourglass used to be. Then drops them on the floor.

They groan and rub their head. She looks unhappy. Also she's your exact double. Except that she's the wrong color. Her pattern is different than yours and she's got a lot more dark colors interspersed with little lights.

"Hey," you say in typical family greeting.

The lizard groans out a, "Yo."

That... that's not quite right. You watch as the lizard blinks in the darkness, a pair of glowing stars looking out at you in the half darkness of your glow. The lizard certainly has your face. You'd recognize it- Well you'd recognize it on your body. Which this one is, sort of. Your body isn't as sleek and svelte, but it's got a scale pattern similar to your and the coloration aside has that weird patterning you've got too.

"You!" the lizard says, interrupting your inspection, "You're the one thats replaced me!" It says angrily.

You start to explain that that's not quite right, but are interrupted.

"You mades everything wrong! You mades Koma talk and walk around! You mades mom live in the house! You mades auntie little and ugly and sad!"

"I dids no such thing! Auntie is very pretty. And she was perfectly happy when I lefts her at home. She's always happy when Kuru is around."

"Who is Kuru? There's no such person!" the lizard shouts at you, "Auntie is only friends with me, cuz I'm the best. But she didn'ts visit our place last night. Instead playings in some cave all night like a stupid day-loving lizard."

Little lights begin to appear in the air around the other lizard and their hand drifts toward a sword on their belt. The only thing that appears to have survived their trip through the tunnel.

Maybe we should have someone who actually has a neutral viewpoint mediate this all out, maybe our depressive genius sister perhaps?
>>
Wait a second, theres no kuru in her dimension, which doesn't fully add up, either that kuru had to have died at some point or we're missing something very important here. We have apparently managed to pull someone through from a dimension significantly different than what we ate for breakfast.
>>
>>40484358
Theory right off the bat, her ""auntie"" isn't our ""aunty"" instead referring to kuru who is considered the aunt while auntie is in kurus position instead. Meaning she is referred to by name while kuru is just auntie. Come to think of it we don't know our aunts name either.

"Okay, let's be calm. There's nothing wrongs with the sun," you say.

"The sun is stupid," the other you shouts. You feel your eye twitch. "When it goes away all my bird friends go to sleep." You feel that twitch again. "Now all my friends and their nests are empty and it's..." she seems choked up before shouting, "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT."

You see the little motes of light around the lizard swell up to the size of marbles and guess what comes next. A guess you heed by jumping behind one of the ruined stones of the room. You hear a sharp "pak pak pak" as the little lights hit your cover.

You've had about enough of this lizard.

"Too many brothers, sisters are all leaving the house without me, auntie's wrong, and stupid scary mom WON'T GO AWAY!" You hear metal clearing a sheathe and the sound of water.

1 84 (and it wasn't even weird dice anon)

You step out from your cover and start working up a flash to blind her. The other you has drawn her sword and it's taken the shape of some kind of stabby looking sword. You don't know the name of it but judging by the water whirling around it it's a magic sword. And all you have is a knife. She's focused on the ceiling so you decide to take advantage of her distraction to yell everything wrong with argument.

"Birds are dumb! The sun is great! My family is great! Those wizards brought you here, not me. And you are the worst Sunniva I've ever met! Birds killed us stupid!"

"No they didn't! ANd my name," she growls, concentrating one what she's doing with the sword, "ISN'T SUNNIVA!" She shouts thrusting upwards with the water blade and sending out a massive blast of water that shears through the remains of the hourglass, spraying dust everywhere just as your flash goes off. Then there's dust in your eyes, dang it, ow.

You faintly register the sound of the water hitting a second barrier that you assume was the roof that you crawled under to get in the hole. Then a rock falls from the ceiling and hits you on the head and you black out for a bit.
[1/2]
>>
>>40485444

You roll back to your feet and snap to attention after what feels like a moment, but the dust has mostly settled now and you apparently cried your eyes clear in the meantime. In the center of the room you can see a pillar of light from outside shining down into the center of the room. It doesn't illuminate the room well since it's night outside, but since your glow is tapped out after the flash it's all you've got.

Luckily, you don't have to use just the light coming in from outside, as a cloud of light ranging in size from acron to grapefruit whirl in the air around the center of the room. They orbit around Not-Sunniva who is still in the center of the room, but she's assumed an odd pose just standing in the light. She's got a strange aura around her. Not quite a glow but kind of like she's soaking up something. You feel like you should recognize that pose.

You run. That frustratingly familiar posture apparently gives your clone a better control over magic than you, and you feel there's no shame running from something that is going to kill you.

Not-You orients on you and you see the lights shift, so you juke forward before doubling backwards. A tide of those little lights slam into the floor of the entire area, fairly dousing any place you could have hidden. Fortunately you cose the wall and the exit as your destinations. By the time the lights are half used up and Not-you let's up you're already to the shaft of the underground building. You feel, more than see, her figure out where you are and you can see from the around the light around you that the magic below you is moving. Luckily by the time they fire off again, sending shooting stars of light straight up into the night sky, you're already out of the hole and running.

META-IGUANA CHALLENGE: I HAVEN'T GOT TIME FOR THIS

>>

Stars. She didn't kill any giant things.
>>
>>40486058
Then how come she has a water blade and is on parity with us?
>>
>>40486079
She assisted with the silent murder of a barbarian raiding party in the mountains. The problem took care of itself in your timeline while you were dealing with giant crabs.
>>
>>40486125
Must have been a lot of barbarians. So what are the differences? If we had let the spell resolve what would have happened?
>>
>>40486125
So, we pulled her into our timeline, right?

>"There, out in the darkness, a fugitive running"
>>
>>40486220
Lots of barbarians. And she shanked a lot of them. Including their boss with his nice sword. Then they accidentally burned down the camp.

Loads of differences. Auntie is bigger for example. A higher tier than now.

It would have cut not-Sunny's tail off

>>40486224
The wizards did yeah. You just pulled her in from wherever she was after she left the hole. Which was mostly stalking your family.
>>
>>40486334
I assume she doesn't mean or family well does she? How's her magic problem? How's her control?
>>
>>40486373
She is mostly angry at you since you clearly replaced her and she is fairly certain you did something to make your family more terrible. She really liked her family the way it was and she's young and change scares her.

She has a similar magic problem but sleeping under the sun mitigates most of it so she was never in any real danger of overloading. Her control is shite but her blessing doesn't need good mana control
