You choose to enter your residence for now. It may be safe to remain indoors as long as you're not aware what's going on. "Philippe, check the mail. Maybe oen of the newspapers can tell us what's going on."

"Of course madame." Your butler retrieves the newspapers of the past few days and hands them to you. Youpick up the most recent paper. The headline reads "Instability in the capital." It's a vague article that doesn't give away too much details but does give you some insight. It informs you that in the past few days, large groups of young men have been rioting in the capital. Their demands are as of yet unclear, but they've claimed multiple times that they will be listened to, even if it means overthrowing the government. They predicted their uprising, and that their time would come.

"This sounds like nothing more than an upset rabble, not a revolution" you mumble out loud. "Still, this doesn't look good."

Try to exploit the chaos

As dangerous as it may be, you curiousity gets the better of you. "Philippe, stay here. I'm going to figure out what's going on in the city." You leave and make your way for the city proper.

You notice that the city itself is rather chaotic. While the destruction is limited in nature, you can see some rubble and corpses of soldiers and civillians alike sprawled out on the streets. You try to invastigate the scene further, but have no time as you hear a large group approaching. You duck into an alley and hide behind some crates, observing the scene.

The men that are marching through the street are young men in civillian clothing, but heavily armed. Peeking over the crates, you can see that they're being shot at by a small group of soldiers. The civillians don't give in, however, and charge forward with a loud, high pitched shriek. With bullets, bayonets, sabers and clubs, the small group of soldiers is quickly and easily overwhelmed, the survivors dispersing. You can see one of the fleeing soldiers running into the alley where you're hiding.

You let the soldier run past you, he barely even detects you. The group of young men lets out more shrieks, whether it's in frustration or celebration you cannot tell. "Fuck this city" you whisper to yourself. "I'm out of here."

When you get back home, Philippe greets you with a warm meal. "Welcome back madame, did you learn anything?". You shake your head.

"I didn't see much. Saw a group of young men fighting a smaller group of soldiers and take them out. I guess the army will take care of things sooner or later."

You decide to call it a day and hang out at home for the rest of the day. You had an adventure in Toulon and decide it's not a bad idea to rest for the day. Let the mess that's going on in the capital solve itself, you need to catch your breath for a day. For a moment, your mind wanders off to Victor. You wonder how he's doing amidst all this chaos. You spend of the rest of the day entertaining yourself before going to sleep.

The next morning, you're awoken by Philippe. "Good morning madame, I've prepared breakfast for you." You enjoy your tea and breakfast as you flip through the morning paper. Todays paper only dedicates a short section to the unrest of Paris. It claims that the unrest has been suppressed. The profile of the average participant in the riots is that of a single young man, often unemployed, who is displeased with the status quo. One of them has been reported to say that "This is not the last you've heard of us! As long as there are some of us out there, we'll rise again!". You gloss through some other articles, looking for something to steal. Your eye falls on the headline...

Your eye falls on the headline "German impressionist exposition in Strasbourg". It will celebrate the greatest pieces of art produced by German impressionist painters as well as some German painters from different art styles.

The French minister of culture makes his displeasure known in an interview.
>"This exposition is an insult, bordering on downright provocation. Holding an exposition celebrating German artists of a French artistic movement in a French city? It sounds to me that the Kaiser has the delusional pretense that Germany can replace France as the cultural heart of Europe."

The mayor of Strassburg however, paints a rather different image.
>"This exposition has nothing to do with ill intent towards the French. We are merely holding this exposition in Strassburg to increase its prestige and tighten its bonds to the rest of the empire."

The politics behind it don't interest you. What does interest you is that a large concentration of rare and valuable art will be collected in one place, not too far from France. The exposition will start tomorrow and last a week. You can take the train from Paris to Strassburg and be there within a matter of hours. However, you'll need a convincing identity first.

"That German art exposition sounds like there's a lot to get there. It's probably a lot easier to steal from than a museum. That's it, we're going to Strasbourg!" You've decided on your next target, now you need an identity. You think back on your glorious experiences with MANWALKING and for a moment consider disguising yourself as a man. Perhaps an artist, or a German aristocrat? You decide against it, disguising yourself as a convincing man takes a lot of work and it's a disguise you could easily drop. You settle for something a bit closer to reality.

"Philippe, you're coming with me. You'll be my butler, and I'll be a wealthy art collector from Bordeaux looking for aspiring artists to buy art from."

Your faithful butler raises an eyebrow. "Madame, that's precisely what we are."

"And that's why it's so brilliant! Can't you see it? We can't drop those disguises, we have a clear alibi, it's fool proof! Let's go pack my stuff, we leave this afternoon!"

The two of you spend some time packing your clothes. You're already somewhat wealthy, but you want to appear as wealthy as possible so you blend in with the other bigshots that will be there. You pack your finest dresses, your most expensive looking jewelry and enough make-up to keep up appearances in upper class circles. You don't really enjoy wearing anything more than minimal make-up, but when in Rome you have to act like the Romans do. "We need to settle on some names. From now on, I'll be known as Marie d'Auvergne, and you'll be my faithful butler Alfred."

Your butler nods. "Alfred it is, madame." With your belongings packed and your fake names prepared, you head out for the train station. It looks like Paris proper has recovered somewhat from the events of yesterday, with life going on seemingly as usual. However, on your way to the station you hear some high pitched shrieks, like those you heared from the dissidents yesterday. You pay no mind to it and hurry to the station.

By the time you get to Strassburg, it's already dark out. You quickly find a nearby inn and try to reserve a room for two. The innkeeper has to disappoint you. "I'm sorry madame, but we only have a room for one left. I can put another matress on the floor for your attendant, if you wish."

You consider this offer, but you're interrupted by a tall man in a dark blue military uniform. You don't know who he is, but he has a certain regality about him in the way he speaks and moves. "I don't think there's a need for that. A lovely lady like this one does not belong in a hovel like this." He then turns his attention to you. "My father owns a residence not too far from this city. It would be an honor if you would be our guest for the night, milady." He even makes a slight bow as he invites you in.

You consider it for a moment. "Very well, I accept. My name is Marie d'Auvergne, and this is my attendant Alfred." You allow him to escort you to his fathers estate. On the way there you make some small talk, and it's rather obvious that he's interested in you.

This Siegfried von Oberhausen is a good flirt, you must admit. His flattery borders on slimyness, but he quickly recovers with his confidence that borders on arrogance. He is a rather attractive man of noble birth with a clear understanding of his social status and how far it can get him. A lesser woman would've swooned in his arms, but you see right through his tricks and maintain a polite distance. Not that it stops him from trying to woo you.

His fathers residence is a rather impressive manor on the outskirts of Strassburg, one that's so large that it makes your fathers estate in Bordeaux look positively small. Upon entering you're greeted by a row of maids and butlers.

"The maids will show you to your room. Shall I pick you up for the art exposition tomorrow morning? It looks like something a lady of your class would enjoy."

The German general smiles contently. "Of course. Then it's settled, we'll meet up tomorrow." With that he leaves, letting his staff lead you to your room. It's a rather large guest room with two beds. You and your attendant unpack your stuff, and Philippe can't help but bring up an objection.

"Madame, was it really wise to stay here? It's clear that Lord von Oberhausen has an eye on you. That could be a detriment if we try to... expand your collection."

You shrug. "He doesn't appear to be dangerous, and he looks like he could be useful to keep around. If he causes any problems we'll deal with them as they come."

I'm sorry for ending this quest a little early. It's already getting late here, and on top of that it seems like tonight is a slow night for this quest. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but for now I'm going to guess many people are out enjoying the weather.
