You sit up in your bed and look around the room. From the light outside your window you can tell the sun is already falling. You the memory of your dreams have become fuzzy already.

You remember your brother was there, but not. Then there was some guy in a suit. Something about a clock and the number 24? You cannot remember the dream well, but you know this was not a dream you enjoyed.

It was just a dream, though, right?

You feel something wrap around your abdomen. You look down to see Judi wrapping her arms around you, nuzzling.

She kisses your side and says “I love you.”

“I know.” You respond.

She squeezes you tighter. “What are we doing today?”

You look to the window again. “Tonight.” You correct her.

She sits up and yawns. “What time is it?”

“Don't know.” You point to the window. “Sundown, whenever that is.”

She takes a weary glance at the window. “How long have we been asleep?”
>>
>>40583899
“Sunrise to sunset.” You say. “However long that is.”

“Four minutes.” She says with a kiss.

“What?”

“Sunrise, Sunset. It's from a musical.”

You stare at her.

“I just... really like musicals.” She says.

You shuffle out of your bed and begin to dress yourself.

“So,” She continues, “What are we doing tonight?”

You open your mouth to say you are going to go check on your brother, but then a thought appears in your head. Right now, Brimstone has called off the hunt against your brother, but that doesn't mean he won't reinstate it. If you tell her, she'll know you know where your brother is, and that could lead to complications.

Now that i've actually read today's OP.

There's something that I've been considering for a bit but I didn't feel it was appropriate for Ambrosis to possibly realize.

Hanging by itself is pretty nasty for one. Now that we actually seem to care about mass torture we might want to actually do something to point out how inhumane and barbaric it actually is or at least that if they really cared about justice or the US constitution the whole cruel and unusual punishment as well as the fact that even if it was a "legitimate" punishment the normal RL sentence for murder is nowhere near as much of a punishment as unending torture. I'm digressing a bit.

1) Lack of sleep messes with the psyche/sanity and MP
2) Any damage done immediately wakes a person up
3) Hanging is constant dot resulting in no time to sleep
4) It's torture that does not end
What we have here is a decent section of the adventurer population sent to batshit insanity. It's going to be really fun for Morning Star when some of those dudes gets out even if just by accident.

Would trying to get one of those guys dehanged now that Ambrosis might actually be realizing how morally reprehensible this entire thing is be a good idea?

“We're going to complete the airship.” You say, “But I need to pick up some more parts in the mean time.”

She stretches and yawns loudly while doing so. “Okay.” She says, “I'll come with you, then.”

“That's okay, I just need to pick up something.” You start hurrying to put the remainder of your equipment on.

“Yeah, but it's not like we can start without you.” She responds. “Besides, I want to go with you.”

“Well, you and Lilac can go find a place to put the electrolyzer, right?” You put on your boots and are now fully equipped. “Whelp, I'm off.” You move for the door.

“Yeah, but-” You don't hear what else she had to say, as you slam the door on her words.

You rush down the stairs and into the tavern area.

“Welcome to being a night owl!” You hear Lilac's voice.

You look to your left to see the dwarf sitting at a table along side Symbology. You and the elf woman exchange mutual glares before your turn back to the door. You don't have time to talk with Lilac, you need to get out of here before Judi has a chance of following you.

You walk as calmly as a man trying to act like he his calm can. You pass by some brown hats and white hats on your way out of the city. Part of you wants to turn around to see if any of them are following you, but that might be too suspicious.

You continue down the path and exit the city. You start wondering off in a random direction, and when you feel you are far enough away from the city, you turn around.

You are quite glad to see no one has followed you. With a sigh of relief, you open your friend list and see the big arrow pointing to your brother.

You travel for what feels like an hour until you reach the tiny valley.
>>
>>40584989
“Hey Zachery!” You call out to a certain pile of rocks, “You awake yet?”

A fist bursts from the pile of rocks. It lifts its thumb into the air.

“It's safe to come out now.” You tell your brother, “<Morning Star> have given up on you for now.”

Your brother sits up, letting the rocks fall to either side of him. He grimaces and puts a hand on his back. “Did you really need to let me sleep in a pile of rocks?”

“Best way to keep you hidden.” You respond.

“Couldn't you have kept me hidden on a nice feather bed?” He stands up from the pile.

“How would I keep a feather bed hidden?”

“I don't know, put it in a cave and behind a boulder.”

“Yes, because nothing says not-suspicious like a feather bed in a cave.”

“Maybe they'd think it was too obvious.” Your brother starts to climb his way out of the valley towards you.

“That's the kind of plan that goes beyond stupid enough to work, and wraps around back to just plain stupid.”

“Yeah, well...” Zachery remains silent for a while. “Your face is... that stuff you just said.”

You give your brother a very stern look of disapproval.

He looks away from your gaze. “Sorry.”

What these guys said. Before he runs off to do anything stupid point out that that they're after him because for whatever reason they NEED to have him captured. The best revenge he can get for now is by staying free and making a proper plan/resistance.

The fact that Morning star has been compromised by them is a damn important detail we shouldn't skip.
>>
Now that I think of it. Doesn't the guildmaster have absolute power over the settings in their guild hall? If anything wouldn't this secretly be a trick by King to let them think they completely control her when she can at least lock them in the hall for all eternity?
>>
>>40585306
>>40584170
goddamnit guys, none of this is very helpful to us in the long run.

The point is to tell Vertigo GENTLY, instead of giving him a reason to get another arrest warrant on him.

>>40585307
Do you trust him to be reasonable after all the shit that's happened to him?
>>
>>40585503
See if she locked them in her guild hall they would simply have their men outside the hall get payback for them.
>>
>>40585503
>>40585698
If she can hold a feast that gets about 50% of them in the guild hall and times it at the same time we arrive, it would work.
>>
>>40585747
Do you think they would be dumb enough to go into her hall with such force? Plus having that many men in there might simply spill their hand to other guilds.
>>
>>40585789
It would depend on the scale of The Family, the feast, and King's guildhall. If the feast is a full open party, with no invitations required, The Family might use it to gain influence on more guilds. 50% is totally asking for too much, but I just figure that if she can keep a ciphered conversation for so long, she can figure something out.
>>
>>40585600
Which is why i wrote that in the first place. What The Family WANTS is to be able to catch him. If they catch him then there's no real hope of rescuing King or his guild. If nothing else pointing that out not only might stop him a little but it could give him proper motivation towards staying out of trouble so that he can do things proper.
Also we're not going to be a manipulative bastard to our own brother about something like this.
>>
>>40585908
I don't agree, but mainly because we can more or less let him charge in anyway as soon as we have the airship running.
>>
Guys. Remember, you can use call of home from inside guildhall. In the show, the Hamelin members were able to get out of the guild hall, but could not go into the guild building to get back to their bank and guildhall once outside it

“Who are <The Family>?” You inquire.

He shrugs, “Some guild that started merging with all the smaller guilds. They bought a lot of food to put on a bunch of banquets. They also started buying people lunch a bunch of times. I remember King talking about how they were rewarding people for causing a ruckus. Why?”

“Well,” You try to word your statement carefully, “They are most likely the ones who made you a big deal for the <Morning Star>.”

“How'd they do that?”

“Well, they kinda control the <Morning Star> in Big Apple right now.”

“So they're the bastards who were making up lies about King!” You see raging build in your brother's eyes. “Alright, so what are we going to do to them?”

“Nothing.” You say.

“Nothing!?”

“Nothing yet.”

“Well, why not!?”

“Because I'm not even half way to level cap yet and you're one guy.”

“But you have tanks and... and... and airships soon!”

“And no one in my entire crew is level cap yet.”

“Okay, fine then, then get the <Morning Star> to go arrest them for file false police reports or whatever!”

“I just told you they control the <Morning Star>. In Big Apple is probably about 90% of them are probably <The Family> operatives at this point, if not 100%.”

“Well, then get the real <Morning Star> to do something about it!”

“They're looking into it.”

“Looking into as in, doing something about it, or looking into it as in Oh yes, we're totally doing that thing we said we were doing, but we're really not!?”

“I think Brimstone's genuinely looking into it.”

“You'd believe that liar!? He actually said King signed that... arrest warrant thing!”
>>
>>40585789
Personally? No. I do however think being able to cut off a section of the leadership/forces at anytime she wants might be useful if people outside the guildhall were doing something is not something to be ignored.

>>40585950
And at the same time lose the trust of our brother for not telling him something this important sooner. It steers too close to manipulative bastard imo. (perceived or otherwise)
>>40586305
Actually they killed themselves because they didn't think to use call of home. Now it might be up to interpretation since nothing explicit has happened with call of home and trapping people(outside of cathedrals) yet but banning spellcasting could probably hit CoH too given that there are no special properties mentioned about it so far and guild settings are ripe for abuse.(plus if it really wouldn't work then why didn't not even a single child just CoH to the cathedral to get away from Hamlin?) What little i do know so far points towards guild hall settings to be absolutely broken with GM calls as their only check.
>>
>>40586792
“She did.” You inform him. “But she signed her name as The Narrator of Canterbury.”

“Unreliable narrator!” Your brother flails his arms in frustration. “And no one took the ten seconds to think of that until now!?”

“Not everyone cares that much about literature.”

“Well, they should!”

You sigh. “Look, they have control over that entire city. They even have King held captive in your guild hall!”

“King's in trouble!?”

“Shit.” You say under your breath. “Look, you can't do anything. Your best option is to say here until an opportunity arises. If we can get the <Morning Star> to mobilize against them, you'll be in a much better position to save King.”

“No!” Your brother screams, “That'll take to long! We need to save her now!”

“So what are you going to do, then!?” You shout back at him, “Are you going to run all the way back there, then single handedly take down everyone in Big Apple!? Are you going to become some kind of PvP god that is capable of winning a million to one fights!?”

“At least I'll be trying something!”

“Yeah, something that's going to get you strung up!”

He remains quiet.

“How do you think King is going to feel then!?” You continue to yell, “Knowing that you're going to be swinging from the gallows till we get out of this damn place somehow!?”

“I...”

“How do you think I'm going to feel knowing that!? You might one day be able to rescue King, but I sure as hell won't be able to rescue you! I've never PvPed before, but I can guaran-fucking-tee you that no one has been able to take down a guy 50 levels above them!”

“Arrrgh!” He stomps around in frustration. “What the hell am I supposed to do, then!?”

“Stay calm and wait for an opportunity!”

“But I don't want to wait!”

“Too fucking bad, Zachery!”
>>

We need some ideas on how to get him to be able to walk around without getting harassed. Is there some kind of material we could put him in that players wouldn't be able to go through?

Could we buy a little apartment, turn it into a guild hall and prevent any Morning Star from entering it?

That makes me wonder, is the inside of the landship considered a "zone"? As in, we own it, and can limit who comes in and out? If not, we should look into why not. This might be a way to prevent piracy.

Actually, renting a room at an inn gives you temporary ownership of the room, which gives you the same controls you would have over a guild hall you own.

well there are things like xp crystals in other MMOs, but you have a point.

If it has no particular MECHANICAL bonuses other than being able to dance, perhaps we should suggest changing his subclass
Dancing is great and all, but when you can do things that will seriously help you and can break the world's basic laws, perhaps he will consider it.

Also if he really loves dancing, he can just learn the steps himself since adventurers can dance without it since they can move on their own now.
>>

Some fighting styles are more dance than martial art, as with certain parkour moves. I don't know how it would mechanically apply to the quest, but Dancer could make evasion tanks and cross-counter builds more viable.
>>
>>40587375
but does it increase his agility in any way?
does it grant extra moves?

if it makes him faster or helps him evade it is good, but it might not do that
maybe he could try using it in combat for now?

>>40587457
Less on making him faster, more on being flexible, dextrous, and capable of more complicated movements.

So yeah, not very directly related to combat, unless this is considered bonus to crit chance.

He is the min/maxed raid manager of a endgame guild. He knows wtf he's doing FAR better than we do. Don't go around suggesting he change his subclass like we know anything about game mechanics more than him.
>>
>>40587523
Levelling his subclass might be a more productive use of his time, though, what with the heavily increased efficiency of Cook Harvesting.

The question is whether Vertigo really thinks Dancer will help him save King.

He lets out a loud sigh. “Fine.”

“Also, farm some more mats. Might well since you have nothing better to do.”

He sighs again. “I suppose it will help me get more combat practice.”

“That's the spirit.” You turn around to see the sun sink below the horizon. “It's getting pretty late.”

“Yeah.” Your brother responds, “I think I'll get some sleep.”

“Didn't you just wake up?”

“Sleeping on rocks is tiring work.”

You put your hands up. You're not touching that statement, as it would take too much time. Instead, you decide to head back to the city.

Over a river, past a long stretch of shrublands, and into the city you go. You don't make it two steps into the city before something stops you.

I think you are severely overestimating how much our character knows about the game compared to Vertigo and underestimating the amount of time spent to level that to cap.
This is not pre database where you can just grind that shit out in a few days. He would have to do quests in specific parts of town. misc subclass related quests, hunt for spells/abilities, optimize gear, and so on.
To top all of that off it's just downright insulting to have some newbie who doesn't even understand all of the mechanics of their own class let alone the amount you'd have to learn in endgame demand you change something about your character when you are a literal god in comparison both experience and characterwise.
Trust me dude. it would be a dickish overly controlling move and being told to fuck off would not only be a highly legitimate response it would be the default one.

Dude, I'm not the one suggesting he change his subclass. I'm just saying that, as a raid-tier, Vertigo probably didn't spend too much time levelling his subclass.

If Dancer could possibly give him an edge, let him explore it. If it won't, bringing Cook up to level 3-5 might have a noticeable effect in farming intestines. Give him a constructive direction to work towards that is actually useful to his goal: saving King.

“Exactly! Brimstone knows about our relationship, and we both already know he's not above exploiting it to get what he wants. He'll use you to make me expose where he is, just like last time! And you'll do it! You'll do it because you don't question him!”

"I..." She shrinks back. “I'm sorry!”

“You can be sorry all you want, but I still can't tell you the truth!” You exhale some of your frustration. “As far as I'm concerned, until this whole investigation thing is over, I can't tell you the truth about anything relating to my brother.”

Do you really think Lilac is a reliable source of good relationship advice? I mean, she's got a vested interest in keeping this relationship going, regardless of what Judi or Ambrosis think of it. That, and her default technique for solving problems in it is literally drunkenly beating both of them and forcing their faces together while going 'now kiiiiiissss~'.

I ain't even exaggerating.

“Judi, I trust you to be you. I trust you to do what you think it right. I trust you to be loyal and loving.” You pause, “And that's also why I can't tell you.”

“But why!?”

“Because I don't trust Brimstone's honesty.”

“But Brimstone wants honesty more than anything!”

“Brimstone wants honesty from you, his soldiers. He wants everyone to tell him only the truth while he has the ability to lie whenever he wants.”

“That's not true!”

“What did he tell you you had to do when he went to arrest my brother?”

She looks away and does not respond.

“Exactly.” You respond. “I'm sure you trust in him enough to believe he only did it because he had to, but I can't trust a man like that.”

“He only did it because he truly believed Vertigo was guilty.”

You take a moment to collect your thoughts. “Judi, what would happen if you were framed for something you didn't do?”

“I... would have my day in court.”

“And if Brimstone truly believed that you were guilty, you got convicted, what would happen?”

“I...” She goes silent.

“They'd hang you. You'll be put you in a world of constant pain, where you wouldn't be able to sleep because you'd be constantly awoken by the damage. Imagine for a moment not being able to sleep, ever, no matter how tired you were, and every waking moment being nothing but pain. That's what hanging is in this world. That's the fate I am trying to protect my brother from.”

“Brimstone wouldn't be fooled that easily.”

“Wouldn't he? To his perspective, my brother was a criminal, why would you be any different?”

“He would find the truth eventually!”

“Because he believes in Justice?”

“Yes.”

“Does he believe in your Justice? The unending search for truth and what is right? No. He believes in his Justice, where his main prerogative is punishing people he thinks are criminals.”
>>
>>40591031
“He... I...”

You place a hand on Judi's shoulder. “Judi, I trust you, and I love you, but this isn't about that trust. This is about protecting my brother. This is about keeping him safe. I know you trust Brimstone, but I don't trust him, and that's the reason I have to lie to you for now. Your sense of Justice is the most important thing to you, you said so yourself, and if Brimstone convinces you that my brother is a criminal, you'll treat him like one. You'll go out and do your best to capture him. You'll tie the rope and hang him by it. You'd do it all because you trust Brimstone to a fault.”

“I just want to do what's right.” Tears well up in her eyes.

“I know, Judi.” You offer her your sleeve to wipe her eyes. “But what's right isn't dictated by a single person.”

She takes hold of your sleeve and wipes her eyes. “Thank you.”

You take in a deep breath and exhale some of the anger you feel. “We should go find Lilac. We need to get to work on the airship before she goes insane from spending all her time weighing things.”

“Okay.”

The two of you go off to the inn.
>>
>>40591054
Lilac is still sitting down at the table she was at before. She waves to you and Judi. “Now we're all night owls!”

The fake-name is, unfortunately, still there as well. “Having a bad sleep schedule is not something to be proud of, Rouge.” She says.

“Nonsense!” The dwarf responds, “The best engineers have bad sleep schedules!”

The elf moves to contest the claim, but you cut her off with, “Okay, so, what are we doing?”

“Well,” Lilac explains, “I got the bladders made by commissioning some seamstresses and a friendly alchemist, we're still missing the actual frame and we haven't set up the electrolyzer yet.”

“Why didn't we just set up the electrolyzer ourselves?” Symbology asks.

“Because if something went wrong, we wouldn't have been able to do something about it.” Lilac replies. “Without engineer levels, we more or less can't touch it.”

[ ] “Let's set up the electrolyzer first. We should be getting the gas while we wait.”
[ ] “Let's get the frame built. It's better to get the hard things done first.”

“Let's set up the electrolyzer.” You say, “It'll be able to collect gas while we're building the frame.”

“Told you he'd make the right choice.” Lilac states.

Symbology shrugs. “Okay, so I was wrong. He's still dumb enough to try and make a plane out of a chair.”

“Glider.” You correct her, “It was only a glider, and you simply didn't recognize the greater implication of what I had done.”

“You crashed into a rock and then started talk about how my name wasn't a word!”

“Yes, and?” You outstretch your arms to invite whatever words she might have.

Instead of launching a verbal assault, she instead looks to Lilac and asks, “Why do I let you hang out with this guy again?”

“No more bickering.” The dwarf hops off of her chair. “It's time for engineering.” Lilac drags all four of you out of the city.

The landscape looks quite different at night, now that you have the chance to appreciate it.

“So...” Judi asks, “Does anyone know where a river is?”

You factually know where a river is, but it's also quite close to where your brother is. He probably wouldn't be seen near that river, but should you take that chance?

“I know where a river is.” You say, “I came across it a while ago. Meant to put the electrolyzer there, but I forgot to mention it.”

“Lead the way, Ambrosis!” Lilac shouts.

“Rouge...” Symbology laments, “Aren't you being a bit too excited?”

“It's engineering time! Of course I'm going to be excited!”

“I know, but-”

“No buts!” Lilac begins to prod you with her staff, “Onward, Ambrosis!”

You make no arguments against Lilac and simply walk forward. You know they probably won't come across your brother tonight because he's currently sleeping, but you should still call him and give him a head's up.

You scroll through your friends list as subtly as possible. You hit the call button and wait.

RING

RING

RI-

“Can't a man spend his nights sleeping on not-rocks uninterrupted?” Your brother answers.

“So the river isn't that deep or fast, but it's very wide, so it will still give us plenty of water.” You say, “There's also this plateau that has a very tiny river running through it, so it makes this tiny, narrow valley. I don't think it'll be anywhere near as useful, but it's pretty cool.”

“You're telling me I should leave, aren't you?” Your brother asks.

“We don't need a geology lesson.” The fake-name comments.

“Why not?” Judi inquires.

“Because I get enough free education from Rouge.”

“YEEEEESSSSSSS” You emphasize, “Because learning something new whenever you can is just so tiring!”

Your brother sighs. “God damn it. Fine, I'm going... somewhere. Maybe I'll find a cave with a feather bed.”

You hang up the call and focus on the conversation with those near you to cement the illusion that you were talking to them.
>>
>>40592877
“It's not that I don't want to learn,” Symbology states, “I just don't need to learn something new every second of the day.”

“Why not?” Judi questions once more.

“Oh, it sounds fun at first, but then you say something about... I don't know... tunnels! And then it's Modern Marvels this, did you know that, its-”

“Do you remember the episode with the tunnel bore!?” Lilac shouts.

“Oh my God, I do!” You respond, “There was that giant one in Germany!”

“Yes!” Lilac happily claps, “Those things are amazing! The things pretty much build the entire tunnel, reinforcement, wires, and all!”

“Really?” You ask.

“Yeah! They actually use these track systems to feed the bores these sheets of concrete that it uses to build the tunnel walls! Then on another track, a small arm is fed wires and the arm just threads it though the concrete sheets! Oh! Oh! And there's another arm that puts a lighting system in the ceiling that's powered by the wires the first arm is creating. I once got to see one in action. It was... It was beautiful.”

“Oh! Remember the episode on light bulbs!?” You shout.

“And now they're both doing it.” Symbology comments. “And here I thought if she found someone who-”

“Oh! The one on breakfast tech!” Lilac cuts the elf off, “That has to be the best one!”

“No, no.” You shake your head in utter disagreement, “Farm tech. Best episode, hands down.”

“Why don't we talk about something else!” Judi very loudly suggests, “Like... uhh...”

“Why don't we just talk about normal things?” The fake-name asks.

“And what would you define as 'normal'?” You ask.

“Something that isn't Modern Marvels.” She retorts.

“Was hoping you'd be a bit more specific.” You reply.

“Okay.” Symbology remains quiet for a while and then asks, “If we got Grandma Spider to cry, do you think the sky would rain fire?”
>>
>>40592890
“It's possible.” Lilac responds, “But we can't really test that theory, so there's no real reason to discuss it.”

After a small silence, you ask, “What do you think will happen now that King Auberon is dead?”

“Chaos.” The elf says.

Lilac disagrees. “I think things will get better, actually.”

“How will a country without its ruler be anything but chaos?” The fake-name argues.

“Well, first of all, there will be less terrible ideas that end up making raid-bosses by accident.” The dwarf says.

“None of that was Auberon's fault. Those things would have happened if he tried to help or not.”

“And the alchemist going mad after Auberon exiled him wasn't his fault because...?”

“How was Auberon supposed to know exiling his personal alchemist would drive him more mad!? The alchemist was exiled because he was mad in the first place!”

“No, he was exiled because he failed to make the elixir of immortality!”

“Auberon did nothing wrong!”

“Oh, sure he didn't, Sym, and next thing you'll tell me, Coyote isn't gay!”

“How could Coyote be gay!? Coyote's a shape shifter! Does he even understand the concept of gender?”
>>
>>40592901
“We're here!” You shout to end the conversation. “We're here, and there's the river!” You motion towards the rive in front of you.

“Ah! Good!” Lilac shouts, “Then it's time to set up the electrolyzer and piping!”

Following Lilac's instructions, you hook up a sequence of metal pipes that more act like very tiny aqueducts than a real pipe system. You then hook said pipes into the electrolyzer. The contraption fills with water while Lilac pulls out a collection of batteries. She connects them all by a copper wire, and then hands you the two ends.

“You'll have the honors.” She tells you.

You connect one wire, and then the other. The machine begins to hum. You know it's making hydrogen right now. You put your bag over the nozzle to collect the gas, but something dawns on you; someone will need to stay here and make sure nothing goes wrong. It can't be you or Lilac because both of you need to be present for creating the airship, but Symbology and Judicature could probably stay behind and collect the gas.

So, although it seems like every tribe has a number of tales about Coyote, different regions have a slightly different Coyote.

For example, the first flame and stealing the spark from the sun was a story from the South Western area of the US, while another bit was based in North Eastern lore. In a North Eastern story, for example, Coyote fashioned a vagina out of some discarded fruit, and proceeded to woo the son of a chief as a joke. After he was wed to the chief's son, Coyote completely forgot who he was and acted as a dutiful wife, even bearing children for his new husband. Years later the fruit fell out and Coyote suddenly realized "Oh right, I'm mother fucking Coyote!" and then he ran off without a word, leaving the husband and children absolutely baffled.

When you combine all the Coyote tales together, Coyote becomes a very strange character.

One thing remains consistent, though: Coyote likes to shit on things.

Okay, back to writing for me.

“Someone's going to need to stay behind to make sure no one walks off with the electrolyzer, or worse, someone's magic bag.”

“I'll do it.” Symbology says, “Anything to keep away from another conversation about Modern Marvels.”

You and Lilac look to one another, and a cruel smile forms on both of your faces.

“So the battery episode,” Lilac starts, “Not as interesting as I thought it was going to be.”

“For you, maybe.” You reply, “I mean, you already knew everything in the episode already!”

“Not true, actually. I already knew the vast majority of it, though.”

“Right! So you weren't going 'Oh, that's the most interesting thing I've ever heard' every other minute.”

“Right! Which is why it was a very underwhelming episode.”

“Shoo!” Symbology yells, “Away with you two!”

You and Lilac are shooed away from the area with Judi following close behind.

“Is she always like that?” You ask.

“Not always, but I can understand why she doesn't like talking about it. Back in the day, I would watch an episode and then proceed to tell her EVERYTHING I learned from watching that episode. I guess after so many years she just started hating it.”

You ponder a moment. “Nah, she's crazy. Modern Marvels is the absolute best. I feel bad for anyone that's never seen it.”

“I've never seen it.” You hear Judi murmur behind you.

“You know what this means, right?” You turn around, “When we get back to the real world, we're marathoning Modern Marvels, me and you.”

Her face suddenly brightens. “Really?”

“Yeah!” You say, “You didn't think I'd let you go without watching one of the best shows ever, would you?”

“I... guess not!”
>>
>>40594015
Lilac claps her hands together. “Alright! It's time to get building!” She points to you. “Ambrosis, get the materials from the inn!”

“Why didn't you get it from the inn before we left?”

“Do you think I can hold all those items with my puny little mage strength?”

“Well, why didn't you get me to carry it when we were back at the inn?”

“I didn't think of it!”

“Actually,” Judicature butts in, “Why aren't we building the frame next to the electrolyzer?”

“I didn't think of that either!” Lilac adds. She then points to Judi. “Judicature, me and you are heading back to the electrolyzer!” She points back to you. “Ambrosis, get the stuff!”

You sigh. “Fine. I'll see you guys in a minute.”

You go your separate ways. It takes you a while, but you get the planks of wood and bars of metal from Lilac's room. With a magic bag full of supplies, you head for the electrolyzer. It is pitch black out as you head out of the city again. You summon your light granting familiars and head off for the rendezvous point.

Upon spotting the light of a different light-summon, you hear a familiar voice shout, “I was told I was going to be left alone, away from Modern Marvels!”

“SO THEN IN THE CHEESE EPISODE!” You hear Lilac yell, “THEY TAKE MILK CURDS AND SQUISH THEM TOGETHER!”

“WHY ARE WE YELLING!?” You hear Judicature shout.

“TO ANNOY SYM!”

“I just wanted peace and quiet! Is that so much to ask for!?”
>>
>>40594025
You announce your presence with, “I have the stuff!”

“Good!” Lilac comes running up to you. “Now we can actually get started!”

You and Lilac get to work forming the metal frame. Lilac holds the piece in place while you screw, hammer, or weld the bit in place. Every so often Judicature is called over when a certain part is too big or too awkward to place for Lilac. Over time Lilac spends less and less time holding parts, and more time directing Judicature on how to hold them.

The three of you work tirelessly through the night. You did not quite notice it at first, but when you took a short break to stretch your back you are greeted by the rising sun. You look over to see Symbology asleep on the river bank. You yawn and you suddenly realize how tired you are. Perhaps it is time to go to sleep.

Bumping. There isn't any possibility of the thread falling of the board at this hour, so it just takes up space in thread, not to mention is kind of annoying. If you wanna keep the thread alive, you can do it by trying to start up a discussion on a topic even tangentially related to the quest.

That's how we fleshed out airship construction techniques, don't you know.

Judicature yawns. “Is it time to go to sleep yet?”

“I'll sleep when I'm dead!” You shout.

“That's the spirit!” Lilac cheers.

“Not you!” You respond to Lilac, “You need to sleep!”

“Oh, so when I say it, it's bad, but when you say it, it's good?” Lilac protests.

“I'm not the one who stays awake for days on end!” You begin to place planks of wood into the frame to act as the deck.

“You're also not the one who's been getting things done lately!”

A weary Symbology adds, “Buuuuuuurn.”

“That was no burn!” You say with a glare, “It was hardly even a spark!”

“Someone call the waaambulance!” Judicature furthers the state of insults against you.

“Not you too!” You lament.

You can see Judi begin to panic. “I-I'm sorry!”

Lilac responds with, “I don't think he really meant it like that, Judi.”

“But seriously though,” You look to the dwarf, who has now climbed amongst the rigging. “You need to get some sleep.”

“I'll sleep when I'm dead. I said that.”

“Don't sleep and you'll end up dead regardless.”

“If I sleep, I might end up dead regardless.”

“Can't say I've heard of many people dying from sleep.”

“It's not the sleep that's going to kill me.”

You sigh. “I doubt you'll sleep for a year.”

She stops moving about the rigging and stares at you.

You stare back at her, knowing you said something wrong.

“Today is the last day of the month.” Lilac explains, “If time isn't different between in here and in the real world, I could die any second.”

“Well... Look at your intelligence! Has your intelligence gone down?”

“No, but... That makes me even more worried.”

“Why?”

“Because what if my consciousness is simply uploaded here? I mean, my body in real life could be dead right now, and I wouldn't know. I might be stuck here forever with no body to go back to.” She chuckles. “Maybe I'm a ghost! Woooo...”
>>
>>40595024
You try to say something, but you have no words you can think to say.

“So, when I say I'll sleep when I die, I mean it.”

All you can think to say is “Okay.”

The two of you get back to work, building the deck and then moving on to the rigid structure. With the main bones complete, you get to work installing the machinery. Four fans attached to four servos. The massive servos swing the direction of the fans to face up, down, and anywhere in between. After a test of the engines, you take a step back to see the massive skeleton. It is quite an impressive structure, and you wonder if you really had built all of that.

“Now,” Lilac says, “We make it fly.”

The two of you get to work waking up Symbology and when she refused to awaken you tortured her with babbling about Modern Marvels. Lilac secures the dirigible to the ground with ropes and chains while you wrangle filled bladders. Each one you ensure if filled underneath a net that is tied to the rigid structure. The blimp begins to wobble as more and more balloons are added, until the last one is let go.

You feel the ground move beneath you and instinctually panic. It does not take long for you to realize the thing is moving in the wind.

Sending Symbology back to sleep, you and Lilac get to work enclosing the rigid structure and balloons in a thick sheet of spider silk.

The two of you take a step back. “Holy shit, we did it.” You blink and an intense pain invades your eyes. “Oh lord, what time is it?”

You glance over to Lilac. She is smiling as she says, “Sky pirates, assemble.”

“Can it even hold two people?” You ask.

“Probably not, but Half-Alvs weigh less than a human. Dwarves too.”

“Sky pirates assemble.”

The two of you jump aboard. Lilac unhooks the ropes and chains while you stand at the helm. You push the accelerator to full and aim the fans down. The fans push your near-weightless craft upwards and you are airborne.

You drive your contraption high above Pueblo and shout down to it, “SUCK MY DICK, BRIMSTONE!”

You hear laughter behind you and look to see Lilac holding her stomach, laughing uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face. “We did- We did it!” She says between fits of laughter. “I can't believe it.”

“Land-ships, air-ships, what's next for us!?”

Lilac lies down on the deck. “Sleep.” She says, “Sleep is next for us.”

You chuckle. “Yeah, that sounds about right.”

You take the ship in for a landing and soon restrain it with chain and rope.

You take a look around your sleeping friends and decide that the wood of the deck is not the worst place to take a nap.

You close your eyes and slip into some well deserved sleep.

The non-man in the suit greets you with his clock. His many fingers have all dissolved into flowing sand, save for four.

The anti-existence asks if you have come to observe.

You attempt to answer in the negative, but only sand pours from your mouth.

The suited creature chides you for being so wasteful with your time.

He has but three fingers left.

The sand once more flows.

This world is in danger. There are machinations that even the anti-existence is not privy to. The non-man will jam its gears.

Levers?

Sand does not come this time, but you know he understands.

The Man in Black holds out a true lever with a special destiny.

This lever will save everything you know, and everything you hold dear; with some exceptions.

You gaze upon the smooth surface and understand. The True Lever is a devise that pulls into your world objects from a different time where someone has already made the gears and machinery required to operate the object. In short, it creates all the inner workings required to move whatever it was that you desired to change. You think you might know how to make one, if you could figure out how to bend space-time with the force of the sun.

You look up to the Man in Black to thank him for this knowledge.

He bids you goodbye.

The last finger dissipates.

The sand is replaced by teeth and suddenly the non-man is punctuated by an unknowable amount of teeth. Every last piece of the non-man succumbs to teeth and gums-like flesh. Then the flesh liquifies, and all that is left of the once mighty non-man is a pile of teeth.

You awaken.

Your phone blares in your ear.

RING

RING

RING

While at the same time you can hear Judicature screaming, “What do you mean all available officers need to head to Big Apple!? What's going on!? Talk to me, operator!”

RING

RING

You see the call is from your brother.

You lean up and suddenly vomit a shower of teeth onto the deck.

Here's a question for people who think they have been paying attention:

If Zachery used Call of Home, where would he go?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiLI6q5wsw0 Our path is crystal clear now. I thought MIB was our worst enemy, when all along he was our best friend.
>>
>>40596103
From what we understand, Call of Home may affect whichever town you may have physically stayed last, unless it requires a "Confirm Call of Home designation", much like WoW's "Make this place your home" option. You do not automatically do it, but are instead prompted a confirm/cancel option after actively requesting it to be your new return point. However, Log Horizon's creator has neither confirmed or disputed that Call of Home requires a confirmation; or that the destination designation of Call of Home is a passive or active process. It's possible he'll go there. It's possible he can't. If the LNs, Mangas, or shows have anything to tell us, that would be super.

What I'm afraid of right now, though, is...
How much of the Big Apple was bit.

>>40596014
I think it may be time to start complaining out loud about goddamned eldritch abominations or something to freak out the party. Surely us vomiting out bucket loads of teeth at random has got to be noticeable?
>>
>>40596222
It was never confirmed if he went into Pueblo. We told him for the most part, sit with the Landship.

Brotherhood may be where he goes. Problem is, he's got that coin trick. What I'm MORE worried about is, if he figured he just puts enough coins along treetops, just put where his tippy toes can reach...and go for another one. Unless he has to throw it first. Because otherwise, he'll try to find a way to make it so he can get to Big Apple before the rest of anyone.
>>
>>40596254
Except he never actually entered Brotherhood. He made it to a small village just outside of Brotherhood, where he met with the local football league, made a fool of himself, and ran away to Ambrosis.
