You and Meloetta play together until the rest of the world fades away. It’s not too bad, but you just don’t feel like you’re on our game. She seems to enjoy her time, even if you don’t feel it’s gone as spectacularly as it could have. Still, there’s something special about it.

Meloetta seems to be doing much better. She takes over the lead and you stop playing and just start enjoying. She really gets into it.

But it peters out towards the end. She didn’t really know how to end it since you stopped, so she just freestyled it as best as she could. She did it really well, but it just didn’t feel as inspired as the earlier part of the song. Technically great, but missing the magic.

You tussle her hair. “Great job, as always!”

She respectfully bows, happy at the praise and attention.

You might as well get some training done while you’re here. You get up and stretch as you consider who to train.

Aria is the only correct answer. But really we should give her a few and see which she likes.
>>
>Aria - a self-contained piece for one voice, with or without orchestral accompaniment, normally part of a larger work.

Aria is acceptable if no one else has any suggestions.

i would really rather not give her a nickname. her regular name is perfectly fine as is. i mean, shes a legendary.

You decide to spend time training with Meloetta. You should probably get a good idea of her abilities before throwing her into a match. You start going through her moves, confirming what she knows and doesn’t know, as well as watching how she moves to get a sense of how she reacts to your commands.

A thought occurs to you as you’re wrapping it up.

“Meloetta, do you want a nickname?”

She cocks her head.

“Well, it’s just that everyone else on the team has one. I don’t want you to feel left out.”

She thinks, then smiles and nods.

“Well, alright! We’ll think of something before heading back tonight, okay?”

She smiles, then shows off another move. That seems to be all of them. [http://pastebin.com/tSNKt0Wm Updated the list of moves here]

You and Meloetta work together on Dream Eater. You offer her small snacks as a practice item. It takes a good long while, but you feel satisfied with her progress. She’s a pretty fast learner when she actually focuses. You suspect she stretched it out a bit to get more practice snacks, so you offered her the rest once she had the move down.

“Aria.”

She lights up. She thinks for a second, hesitates, then just gives you a hug.

You hold her tight to your chest. “You like it, huh?”

She looks up and nods, then cuddles into your chest again. She must like to be part of a group. Acknowledged for what she can do, but not put on a pedestal because of who she is.

You both head back to the hotel. You take a quick shower, change into something comfortable, and cuddle in next to Robin. You can tell she was trying to stay awake, waiting for you. You take your place as the big spoon and fall asleep.

Morning comes too quickly. Robin is tugging at your arm. “The Devon Corporation people are downstairs. They have a box. Emma is down there too.”

You rub your eyes and try to get your wits in order. Even though it felt like this took forever, not it feels like it’s happening too fast.

Robin looks scared. “This is going to be okay.” she directs it to you, but it sounds like she’s telling it to herself.

You hold her hand. “It’s okay. I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere.”

She stops going back and forth and settles down a bit. Her one good eye stares into both of yours. “Okay.”

“But...just to be safe, can you and Clair take a good look at it? I know I’m probably being paranoid, but with Hornbeam out there...”

Robin looks at you like you are indeed being overly paranoid, but she doesn’t say anything. “O-okay. But...I don’t want to ask.”

You squeeze her shoulder. “I’ll ask. Don’t worry.”

You head down and see everyone waiting for you and Robin. Emma waves you over. You recognize the agent, but not the other two. One of them looks familiar though.

He steps forward and shakes your hand. “Kat, right? My son told me all about you. In fact, I wanted to thank you personally. He’s never been so focused before. He says it’s all thanks to you.”

You shake it back. “Eddies dad, right? Nice to meet you.”

The agent watches closely from behind his shades. “I’m glad we have that out of the way. He insisted on coming personally.”

Eddie’s dad laughs nervously. “Well, like I said, I wanted to say thanks personally.”

You mention wanting to look over the eye. The agent seems to be okay with it, if a little surprised. The other scientist isn’t a fan and insists you be very careful. Eddie’s dad looks like he wants to say something, but bites his tongue.

“Thanks!” You grab the box and head back to the hotel room, friends in tow.

Robin and Clair look over it as close as possible. They’re both smart, but you know they don’t exactly have a PhD in prosthetics or robotics or optics or whatever this falls under.

Clair lets Robin take the lead. Robin finally stops inspecting it and puts it down. “I-I don’t think this piece is supposed to be here.”

Everyone else, including you, crowds around. “Wait, really?”

Clair puts her hands behind her head. “Yup. Eddie’s dad is responsible for that.” She taps her head. “Aren’t I the best?”

Nobody answers that. Vance almost shakes her. “What do you mean, Eddie’s dad did that?” You can see from the look in his eye he’s about to go down there and commit a felony.

“He added some extra stuff. I didn’t get all the details, but it’s not anything bad. Apparently they had a model even more advanced that hasn’t even left the lab yet.” She closes her eyes and concentrates. “Ugh. His mind is all technical details. It’s nothing bad, just...more features.”

“You’re sure,” you say quietly, trying not mess with her concentration. “Nothing bad?”

Clair nods. “Yeah. I’m sure. He’s convinced he’ll lose his job if anyone finds out he did it, but he’s also convinced this model is better, and safer to install too.”

Robin looks overwhelmed, not sure what to say to that.

“Thanks awesome!” You stand up to get a better look at it. “Eddie really pulled through for us!”

“There’s a built-in Pokedex,” Robin says, looking over it. “I don’t know what this does though,” she points to a small chip.

“Yttrium aluminium garnet,” Clair says, sounding like she’s quoting something. “For...wait, that can’t be right? A laser? No.”

It’s weird. From behind, it looks like some sort of weird machine, but the front of it looks exactly like an eye. Squishy and moist even. You keep yourself from touching it.

“Everyone’s going to be fine,” Jeanine pats Robin on the back. “I’m actually a little jealous.”

Robin takes that the right way and laughs. You all head back.

“So, everything fine?” Emma subtly drops her hand to her waist and glances over the Devon Corp people.

“Uhh, yeah,” you take the lead. “Come on, let’s go!”

The entire group starts walking to the hospital. It’s just a few blocks away from here.

Emma seems to have taken care of all the arrangements and says you have a room and she has assistants lined up. She asks Robin all sorts of questions about her health. It’s all stuff she’s asked before, but you guess she’s being thorough. That helps put you at ease.

You take Eddie’s dad aside. Clair follows close behind, knowing you want her there.

Experimental stuff is usually experimental because it isn't tested enough.

So why on earth is a high ranking executive with technical knowledge of the company's latest and greatest not on that med that blocks psychic intrusions anyway? That seems like a gross oversight on Devon Corp. security.

Clair is really good at psychic intrustion if she tries.
The real answer is, the pschic impressions are fake and he secretly is/works for Hornbeam and installs a mind-control device in Robins head.

“Thanks. I know what you did, and I know the risk you’re taking.”

He misses a step. “I don’t know what you’re...” he sighs in resignation. “Ah hell. You found out, huh?”

“It’s okay. I won’t tell anyone.” He looks incredibly relieved. “I'm grateful and all, people should be told what extra stuff gets put into their head. Experimental stuff is usually experimental because it isn't tested enough.”

“But that’s the thing that makes it so brilliant!” He suddenly looks overcome with passion. Not defensive passion, more like you just struck on a subject he loves. “It’s actually using an older, more tested technology, just in a smarter way.” He starts going into technical stuff that flies right over your head.

“Okay, okay, I believe you, but, can you explain those other features in terms of what they actually do?” You keep a close watch on his mannerisms for anything that might be shady, just in case.

He visibly calms. “I get a bit excited over these things. Nobody else ever asks except at work.” He looks off into the distance before turning to you. “First, there’s the zooming feature. She’ll be able to see things at a much greater distance than you or I. There’s the built-in Pokedex of course. Then the thermal visioning, iris customization, and...” he leans in close, “The laser.”

“Really?” You’re more skeptical than anything else. Who actually does that outside of cheesy sci-fi?

“Oh yes. It’s a personal defense feature, apparently something a wealthy investor once inquired about at some drunken gala. He forgot, but our research department didn’t. It has a very long recharge time though. And it won’t do more than a superficial burn in most cases. Robin can select a voice command that only she knows and only she can use to activate it.”

You glance back at Clair. She shrugs, letting you know he’s not lying.

Huh.

You explain about why you’re so cautious, mentioning Hornbeam and Team Imperium.

“That maniac? I've heard about his disgraceful behavior. Absolutely disgusting. I hope he’s brought to justice soon.”

Well, you feel like you can rule out him being somehow controlled by Hornbeam. He's way too much of an egotist to let anyone under his control say something like that. “Anything I can do for you?” You change the subject. “I mean, this is a bit more than I expected.”

He waves your concerns away. “After what you’ve done for my boy? Oh no.”

“So he’s doing well then?” You hold the door open for him into the hospital.

“Yes.” He looks off into the distance. “I understand why he decided to become a trainer now. I see the passion in his eyes and I finally understand my son.”

Parental relationships seem like a lot of work. You’re still a little envious, but it takes a back seat to being almost grateful sometimes.

Oh. You’re here.

Everyone gives her an encouraging comment. Vance pats her on the back, gently for once. Jeanine comments that she likes everyone’s aura, and that the equipment here looks great. Clair offers a very rare, uncharacteristic hug.

Robin looks over to you. She’s about to go in. You won’t be able to see her until after.

Robin grabs your hand. “S-See you on the other side”

It's really not that hard to gown up, put on a scrub hat, booties, gloves and stay well away from the sterile field. They would have to have non sterile personnel as well. “Har har,” you laugh.

“...’Har’, like a pirate?” Robin does her best to look offended, but she’s clearly struggling not to laugh. “

You kiss Robin. It’s not lewd or obscene, but there’s a strong passion there.

“I love you too.” She stays there for a few moments, the finally breaks away when Emma gently tugs at her wrist. Her hand still stays holding yours though. “T-thank you, everyone. But seeing everyone do so much for me, it...it makes me feel special, and...and...loved.” She looks at you again. “And safe.”
