As you scramble out of the hole a cloud of light follows you up. Dozens of streaks of light arcing up out of the shaft leading down into the ruin and into the night sky. You distantly hear the lizard below's groaning scream of frustration when your corpse doesn't immediately fall down after the assault.

The expedition to explore the hole your brothers found wasn't supposed to be this exciting. You expected to poke your head in, maybe fight a badger, then go home. Instead you found the ruin filled with the bodies of wizards. A kick poke through the remains of their diary determined they were a time wizard trying to unlock unending power. The end result was that he accidentally summoned a half dozen copies of himself, and one final copy of you. You're still not sure how you accidentally summon six feet of angry lizard monster from across time, but the other you apparently took exception to it and murdered the heck out of the time wizard(s).

After that, as far as you can tell, she spent her time stalking her(your) family and working up a mad on against you. Whatever the differences between your two timelines, she blames you for them. You don't really blame her for being scared and frightened by being in a new world where everything she knows is wrong. You do hold her love of birds, and dislike for the sun against her. Stupid lizard. Also the trying to murder you. That also is kinda rude.

>Jump back down the hole DEATH FROM ABOVE
>Hide then prepare to ambush her when she tries to leave the hole
>Maybe try and call someone to help you, she'll hear it though
>Just go find Auntie, she one of the changes Not-you is upset about

I mean, this technically falls under a childs temper tantrum so we should get a proper adult for this.

Also the conversation of Auntie having another ""niece"" would be amusing.

This is a problem for auntie. An auntie problem. A problem you can probably blame on auntie causing instead of you. You should get auntie to fix it. Or failing that, hold the other lizard down while you stab her. Both are fine with you at this point, though really you'd rather the child stop throwing a murder tantrum.

Auntie was at home when you left, and seeing as Kuru was visiting and it was getting dark you doubt she left. It takes a couple hours but the house is still where you left it, and still lit, so auntie is still awake. You notice that the lantern outside your house is purple tonight. That's new. A mystery for later though.

Inside auntie is roughly wear you left her, in an impromptu lizard pile with Kuru. She shoots a quick greeting at you, but Kuru appears to have fallen asleep. You hear enough noise from the next room to be able to guess your siblings are home. Your dad's snoring is absent though.

He should see a healer about the snoring. No lizard should honk in their sleep.

"Hey," you say, trying not to be suspicious as you figure out how to word your explanation.

Auntie's eyes narrow and she stares at you. "What dids you do?"

"Nothing!" you protest, "It was what someone else dids and how a different someone else responded. I'm innocent!"

The expression on Auntie's face tells you that she believes you about as far as she can throw Kuru. You can't conceive a situation that would make her willing to throw her best friend around like a sack of dead birds.

"Hypothetically though," you say feeling out the words as you say them, "How would you feels if you had another niece?"

Auntie stares at you for a long moment. "Huh? You aren't even old enough to lay eggs. No wait, those wouldn't be... How did you-?" She shakes her head and fixes you with a much sterner stare. "Explain."

How do you explain to auntie?

Time wizards somehow summed a different me from across time who is nothing like me, killed all the wizards, and now blames me for their mistake and is trying to kill me to. She's scared half to death so I was hopping you could help me track her down so we could figure this problem out before one of us kills the other.

"I'll explain but we should probably be going while I do it," you tell her, "She's probably getting a head start on us right now."

Auntie looks at Kuru half slumped onto her and back at you. "Is it really important?" she asks.

"Uh, kinda? She's trying really hard to murder me."

Sighing auntie carefully frees herself of the sleeping Kuru. Depositing the snoozing lizard on the floor without waking her.

"Walk and talk," she tells you, grabbing her cloak and equipment.

You explain about the time wizards, and how you read their diary, and then used their magic, and then summoned a version of yourself that really doesn't like you. With auntie interrupting for clarification on those points you're an hour away from home before you get to the important bit.

"So why bother me? It seems pretty clear the other Sunniva-"

"Not-Sunniva," you correct her, "She said that's not her name, she's a bit touchy about it."

"It's pretty clear she doesn't like you, why can I do anything about it?"

"She likes you! Or her version of you." You think for a moment. "The version of you that is not 'little and ugly and sad.'" You explain.

Auntie's eye twitches the way yours did when Not-You professed a love of birds.

"Alright, so apparently the other me is a higher rank, for reasons I'm unclear on I'm very careful," Auntie murmurs, mostly to herself, "Why sad though? I'm not sad."

Auntie continues musing to herself as you walk through the nighttime swamp, carefully navigating the myriad hazards that entails.

Something on the wind caches auntie's nose and she looks at you inquisitively. "When you said you left her in the hole, you meant you left her in the hole and covered it so she'd have to dig her way out, right?"

[1/2]
>>
>>40626228
[2/2]
You blink at the question. "No, she has this thing she does with her sword that would just dig her out quickly." You tell her. Then the sound of roaring water fills your ears and you geel like you're hit by the pincer of an angry crab god. Then you hit a tree. The blast of water that hit you dissipates and you look at auntie a little woozy.

"Kinda like that," you cough.

Damn, your bruises from the crab this afternoon, mere shadows of what you'd expected them to be, suddenly scream at you as the new set of bludgeoning adds to their number.

Auntie is behind a tree now, apparently having leapt to cover as soon as you were hit. You can't see the other lizard out their in the trees but you're apparently within range of her attacks. The cloud of light you were counting on warning you of her presence is absent though. You pull yourself behind a tree as best you can and try to catch your breath.

"So did you want me to murder her for you or just try to talk her down. I'm not the auntie she knows, you know." auntie calls to you quietly.

The ever looming threat of Lizard Dice leads to a constant state of panic while I have these threads open.

>>40626547
"Say something," you tell auntie, "Don't pretends your her auntie, but you should haves something in common with her right?"

Auntie adopts a thinking pose and you switch to another position of cover, slowly.

You're seriously hurting now. You may have been ignoring the injuries from the crab battle a bit more than you should have. Anytime you try to be stealthy your foot seems to go astray or you bump something sensitive and have to whimper in pain.

Not-you is having no such difficulties. Another tongue of water stabs out of the trees and into you, putting you to the ground again. Then she seems to go quiet. No more attacks, though you're getting that same weird feeling from earlier when she was manipulating the light. Looking into the treeline you finally make the mental connection between the lights and stars. She's using star magic.

In your defense, you're really not a night person. If this was daytime you're sure you'd be doing much better, or even if you just had your fricking glow. It's still exhausted from when you tried to flash not-you earlier.

You glance desperately at auntie, who has moved since you last saw her but is still visible, and still visibly thinking. She mumbles to herself as she appears to muse on something. You're not sure that she really needs to say something that fancy, you just wish she'd say something.

There are noticeably more stars apppearing in the sky above the trees now, and you're worried that not-you has almost finished whatever her magic is. The new lights glow fiercer as they did before crashing down back in the hole. Then auntie chooses to speak.

"Nytora?" she calls out, somewhat hesitant on the word, or maybe it's a name, but still she's loud enough to be heard wherever the other version of you is hiding.

The stars above flare then dim and waver. You hold perfectly still hoping that they go out entirely.

"Auntie?" your voice calls hesitantly from somewhere in the swamp.

Auntie breathes a relieved sigh and calls out again. "Not quite. But I was hoping..." she looks lost for a second before picking up again, "Could talks about what's happening? Are you willing to do that?"

There's a terrible amount of time before the voice speaks again, and several times you see the stars swell up and die down like she's torn between continuing and stopping.

"I miss my auntie," a pitiful voice says, almost too quiet for you to catch.

"I understand," Auntie says, "I'd miss my family too if everything suddenly went topsy turvy on me. But just lashing out at people doesn't fix anything. You have to pick the right people."

"Her! She's the problem!"

"No," auntie says kindly but firmly, "She's just the biggest glowing target." Auntie laughs at her own joke. "I'm gonna come closer and we'll talk okay?"

"...Kay."

Auntie looks at you and starts walking toward the other version of you.

Scraping yourself off the ground you follow auntie. Your leg twinges whenever you put weight on it and you kinda hurt when you breathe, but you'll live.

You walk behind auntie and eventually spot your other self. She's well hidden up in a tree but she's shedding motes of light that float off into the sky, and her eyes glow like a pair of stars in the darkness of the tree cover.

The glowing eyes are really helpful for spotting the glare she's shooting at you. Auntie starts to climb the tree, but she slashes her tail across in the muck in front of you before going. You stare at the line she slashed for a moment before contemplating what it is she wants.

Auntie climbs, and you wait at the bottom of the tree. The other you hasn't taken her eyes off you. You'll wait patiently for now. Though that doesn't keep you from considering how to set the tree on fire without burning auntie.

The two talk and not-you finally breaks eye contact. You strain your ears to hear what they're talking about but they appear to deliberately keep their voices low to avoid you hearing. You can't help but hear when the other you's voice gets high enough to complain about you. Apparently auntie started off by talking her out of murdering you.

You can't help but figure that's good. They continue talking for a while. Mostly not-you telling Auntie things. Judging by how long it's taking she's telling auntie her life story. At one point though Auntie let's out an alarmed noise and you almost go up the tree to murder the cretin attacking your auntie before realizing it wasn't a defensive cry but something related to the not-you's story.

Finally after what seems like an eternity auntie climbs down, the tree, not-you following in her wake.

"Sunniva, this is Nytora. Nytora, this is Sunniva. Everyone calls her Sunny though," Auntie introduces you.

"Is it because she glows," Nytora asks, a note of petulance still in her voice.

"No, it's mostly because she basks like the sun is going to run out."

That's a terrifying thought. You try to imagine a world without a sun and shudder.

"Sunniva, we're going to go back to the hole ruins and look around for clues about what happened."

What say to Not-y... Nytora and Auntie?

"Sorry, I trieds to kill you," you tell Nytora, "But you starteds it."

"I guess it's okay," she grumbles, "At least you're really bads at it."

You feel that murder twitch again but you ignore it. You choose to focus on auntie's statement.

"You don't have to goes down in the ruin. I already knows what happened," you tell her.

"Yes, you saids 'wizards did it.' We're going to looks for more details then that," Auntie says patiently.

"The wizard was tryings to use time magic to summon a version of himself that was super strong. Instead he kept gettings himself from earlier in the day that ate a different breakfast," you tell Auntie. "Then a couple of him trieds to do stuff together to get a stronger version of himself that had nothing to do with what he'd eaten for breakfast. They gots her for some reason." You explain waving a claw at Nytora. "Then she murdereds them all."

"They were mean!" Nytora says defensively, "And hads nice things! Auntie says mean people don't get to haves nice things once nice people find them and violence them."

"Do you says that?" you ask Auntie.

"It sounds like somethings I'd say if someone mean had something nice I wants." Auntie nods. "So then they survived to summon her a second time?"

"No, that was me," you say. "I founds their magic in the diary." You hold up the book. "Most of it was written in here."

"You can read that?" Nytora asks, surprised.

"You just cast magic you found in a random book," Auntie says angrily.

"You can't?" you ask ignoring auntie. You really didn't think that far ahead.

She shakes her head. Well it's in plainspeech. You learned that from Gretchen and Aldera. You're not sure why she wouldn't know it.

"Oh, you don't have magic problems so you probably didn't meet Gretchen and Aldera," you say as realizations strikes you.

"I have weird magic," Nytora interrupts, "I just don't glow from it."

That means she probably didn't have any problems about burning to cinders. What a gyp.

"Does the book say how to send her back?" Auntie asks, pulling you back on track.

You look at the book. "No? Just something about foci and temp'ral stabil'ty"

"Did you take a focus off the wizards," auntie asks Nytora.

She shrugs. "What's a focus?" Auntie shrugs back.

You also have no idea what a focus is.

"What stuff do you have left from the wizards?"

Nytora checks her belt and produces a handful of coins, a ring, something in a bottle that smells weird, a necklace, and a fork.

"Most of it fell in the hole when I got sucked in the second time," she explains. Then she glares at you and you realize you cost her most of her loot. Oops.

"You lost me all my stuff," Nytora argues, "I should get it."

"Do you even know how to use a staff?"

"Do you?"
