"Lyra, you're a giant spider."
"An impressive giant spider."
"Fine. You're an impressive giant spider."

"Heroic, too!"
"Thank you, Nin."
"Very queenly!"
"Nin."
"And modest!"
"NIN!"

Triss laughs, half leaning into the shade of the rumbling wagon, crossbow loaded and ready, resting in the direction of the trailing prisoners.
It's been a rough few days of travel to the next town, the wagons having to keep pace with the slogging captives.

It'll be a relief and a half when you arrive and turn them over to the guard. Any guards.

For now, though- Slow walking.

She does have a point. Capturing some mook bandits isn't that impressive for a monster like us.

You idle near the archer for a bit, trying to come up with something worth doing-
Really, adding prisoners to your guard routine wasn't an improvement so much as a tremendous detriment.

You'd briefly consider lashing them all to a log raft and just hoping it got to a city before they starved or got eaten or the whole thing capsized or-
Anyway, that line of thought is why you abandoned the plan in the end.

And the whole situation is that much worse because the while lot of them are moping and generally depressed. Yes, of course you expect them to be punished. If they didn't want to get in trouble then they porbably shouldn't have decided to make a career out of banditry and murder and highway robbery.

Finally, with a sigh, you dismiss the whole discussion from your mind, and wander your way through the slow moving carriages, looking for- Ah ha.

"Kenzington! Yes, hello."

The stocky caravan master is fanning himself with a decidedly large wooden spoon, sweat beading on his forehead. He makes the barest nod in your direction in response, clearly doing his utmost to avoid any sort of movement at all.
"Lyra. Please don't tell me ya somehow managed to find more trouble."

You frown.
"Of course not. That is what I am looking for now, yes."
He groans, sweeping his brow and sitting a little taller.
"What're ya after now, then?"
"A bit of hunting, if I can. Even if it's just a meal for myself. Staying in place is making me go crazy."
>>
>>40644448
oh shit, this is running today?
>Your shift is up now that Triss is here. Head up to the front and check the pace.

He laughs, then thinks better of it and shuffles deeper into the shade offered by his wagon.
"I guess. Dunno how the hells you're alright with this kinda heat."
You shrug.
"Dry heat is not so bad, yes? Humidity is worse. Anyway, Sheszka cools everything around her."

He waves you off dismissively, shaking his head.
"Arright, you have fun and- What was that last bit?"
"I don't like humidity?"
"The other one."
"Sheszka is always cool?"

"I will trade you the rights to unlimited hunting for the wolf."
"I am not in the habit of bargaining away family, yes."
He sighs dramatically, collapsing backwards into the rolling wooden contraption.
"Fine, fine. I'll trade ya today's hunt for the story of how a wolf is family then."
"I will see you at dinner, then."

You skitter for the treeline, rushing past the brush and into the welcoming embrace of shade. There isn't much in the way of a breeze, not with the raised road just behind you, but the air is noticeably cooler down here.
Birds sing and insects buzz as you head into the thickening woods.

You briefly entertain the thought of setting off in a random direction- it is, after all, easy to find your way back, what with the road following the river.

However-
There's still work to be done.

Not caravan work. Spider work. Lyra work. Work that you have created for yourself.

Specifically, your plan to train your reptilian friend into a powerhouse snake monster!
Of course, the reality of the situation is that you never actually planned that, and technically she asked to get stronger with the intent of getting bigger, and you may be mildly motivated by an absurd and potentially perverse desire to see her in some sort of 'X-TREME GLADIATOR' type arena. Only with fangs and scales instead of repulsion batons or whatever the hell it was the used.

Tiny Animal Murder Arena is currently off the table, anyway, upon threats of biting.

So it's with a heavy heart that you pick up the scent of some animals and trail through the woods, dragging a snake from your neck and slowly waking her by raising the temperature of your hands.

"NnnnnNnnnnnnooooooo-"

Her tiny cries echo through the woods as you thunder forwards.

"Hush, you."
"You can't make me exercissssse-"
"Of course I can."
"What."

You gesture with your spear as you face forwards, still following a trail of scent.
"I could throw you at a monster. Or build little mazes like dungeons, and put your food at the end. Or maybe I could-"
"Don't you dare! Don't you daaaaaare!"

You laugh a little as you trample another wayward bush, daring to stand before your progress.
>>
>>40647569
And then you emerge into a scenic wonderland, flowers blooming, birds chirping- a rabbit gently dipping itself to drink from a placid pond.
And next to the little fluffball is another rabbit.

Only this one is the size of a bear, and covered in spikes and bone-spurs, red eyes glowing with deadly intent.
You stop and stare.

"Thisss is all your fault."

You lick your lips.
You can't help it!

It's a giant rabbit. A Giant Rabbit! Rabbits taste good from the start. Not bears, but- Wait, this one is as big as a bear. Maybe it tastes different? Maybe it tastes better. Like- Like a mix between rabbit and bear.
That sounds amazing. You want this. You want to eat this.

"Lyra? Lyra, are you drooling right now?"

You hastily slurp the trail of saliva pouring past your lips back into your mouth.

"What? No. No, definitely not, yes."
"You were sssso!"
You lean forward, unleashing the snake into the grassy clearing.
She stares accusingly at you, her spear clutched in both hands.

"Never. Never ever. Why don't you fight the little one? It will be good training. And I will eat the big one. Grill it. Fight. Fight it! Yes."
Her eyes narrow and she hisses, tongue flicking past her lips as she stretches her syllables out.
"You have to sssshare!"

Your eyes flick distractedly between her and the glowering bearabbit.
"Huh? Yes. Yes. I couldn't eat all that anyway."
She's still staring.

You surrender.

"Fine. I could, yes? I could eat all the rabbit-bear until I was like a spider balloon and I had to be rolled back to the caravan. But I won't and I will share. I promise."

She snorts and nods in acceptance, and makes to slither forwards, heading to the smaller rabbit.
She can't keep her tail-tip from wagging behind her, though.

Maybe she should be taking lessons from Sheszka.

You step properly into the clearing, spear lowered and ready, legs clicking menacingly- birds take flight, bugs cease their monotonous whine-
And the rabbit launches itself at your without a sound, nose wiggling once before it hurtles forwards, spinning midair to deliver a two-footed kick, driving you back, your sharp feet leaving eight identical furrows beneath you.

You drive forwards even before it touches ground, and it twists itself, spinning to ward away your blade- You draw blood all the same, a long crimson stripe marring it's hide as it thuds heavily to the dirt, righting itself and facing you again.

Ezzy, being a highly poisonous snake-girl, not to mention armed with a spear, is up against a conventional rabbit.
Which is to say that in the interim she has reduced the thing to body, and has even found another rabbit to spar against, fending off another of the horned things she hunted back home.

You idly wonder how many rabbits are around as the creature's legs tense again, its whole body tilting forward as it starts to charge-

You brace your spear, preparing to stop the rabbits charge. Suddenly you are both interrupted by a shout from the side "FIVE!", "Three, sir!" a second voice quickly corrected, immediately followed by the shout of "THREE!". An object is thrown in between you and the rabbit, you both spend a moment very confused before you frantically attempt to scramble backwards. A scramble that was sadly too little too late, the last thing you see is the lords glorious light as it surrounds you and the rabbit in its holy, eviscerating embrace.

The thing is levelling horns at you this time- a gently curving pair that ends in a vicious point, angled forwards and up.
It looks like a rabbit that's learned to fight by watching cows.

Are there monster cows?

Would monster cows taste better than even a regular cow?

Thoughts about food and dinner and the kinds of spices that go well with rabbit flicker through your mind as you level your spear, the tip spiking into the dirt and holding it steady- The rabbit is already airborne, its steps sending it almost floating over the ground, though it moves at a speed that would make it hard for even Sheszka to keep up.

Of course, all this just means that the rabbit itself is providing all the power your weapon needs- the creature releases a bellowing squeak as it impales itself, forcing the spear further into the dirt.
You raise your shield, but the horns never reach you, the cross pattern of your spear both stopping the creature's attack as well as limiting your own damage.

The thing would have skewered itself all the way through if not for the block holding it back.

Ezzy is taking a small legion of rabbits to pieces- though it seems she's fallen back on biting when the numbers start to grow out of control, her venom evident with the number or sickly looking twitching rabbits strewn about her. There's a low crack of bone that you catch thanks to your elfen ears, the lamia's tail tightening and twisting round the neck of a horned rabbit even as she fends off another.

She's even laughing.
>>
>>40649727

Nin was right, Ezzy does get really into fighting once she starts.
Is it a carnivore thing, maybe? A snake thing?
Jin likes showing off, and Sheszka seems to like sparring and such.

But that's more sport than bloodlust.
You shrug it off, dancing around the massive rabbit even as it tries to roll at you, a shield of spines and bone that strips the bark from a tree as it collides with it.

Aww. Anyone want to add curving horns to this?
>>
You pursue your quarry, even as it turns again to challenge you, pitting your spear against its horns, forcing it backwards, to the roots, the trees, the forest.

Blood stains its fur- each pounding beat of its heart forcing another gout of life from its veins, killing it as surely as any poison.

Its legs tremble as it tries again to charge, and you fend off its efforts, clashing, forcing it back. Pinning it between you and no escape.
Somewhere behind you, a snake laughs triumphantly.

With every slash, every poke, every attack you make, the rabbit's confidence erodes, fear replacing stubbornness, its eyes no longer chasing your body for an opportunity to attack; rather, flicking past you, tracing trails into the forest where it could flee.

Legs tense again beneath it, muscles swelling as it readies itself for another dash- You slam a spiked foot forwards, shocking it into movement: a spray of dirt and a collision with the ground all it can manage in its panic.

It backs away again, and you follow once more, closing in, weapon raised.

It shifts its weight, and one heavy paw slips- and it's all the space you need, spear swooping in to pierce its neck, forcing its head to the ground even as it kicks, trying to drive forwards, one last attempt as its breath leaves it on the forest floor.

You drive your weapon sideways, through its spine, and let loose a sigh of relief as you feel the bone snap under your efforts.

A glance over your shoulder reveals an enthusiastic snake atop a small pile of rabbits.
You really hope she knows which ones she bit and which ones she didn't.

Jin is even raising her head, feathery tufts shifting as she scents her favourite food.
Her eyes crack open blearily, and her head swings back as though it were on a hinge, mouth open wide, tongue dangling past her delicate fangs.

"Nuuuh."
You blink slowly.
"Nuuuuuh!"
"Jin, I am not your mother, yes?"

The harpy closes her mouth while the snake giggles, half amusement and half adrenaline. Jin tilts her head to one side, then the other, her owlish behaviour only apparent in her sleeping habits and her ability to twist her head in really weird ways.

We no longer need the tiny animal murder arena
>>
>>40651956
Or we could make the arena itself out of the tiny murdered animals. I'm sure a colosseum of rabbit skulls would get Ezzy in the mood for kill.
>>
You momentarily ignore your feathered friend's head rotating like she's possessed, opting instead to scoop the bloody little murder snake from the ground. She spirals around your wrist as soon as you reach for her, hands crossed over her chest and quite possible the most smug smile you have ever seen on anyone plastered straight across her face.

"Did you see?"
You resist the urge to roll your eyes, but you can't keep the smile from your face.
"A little, yes."
"They were nothing!"
"They were rabbits. Which is technically something."

She huffs a little, flipping her hair out of her face.
"I wassss amazing."
You pat her head gently as she celebrates, a little twisting dance across your arm.

She directs you proudly as you separate the rabbits into piles- Edible for people, edible for Ezzy, and Edible for Lyra because she will bite anyone who touches her giant rabbit.

And then you wrap each in turn, and start hauling your way back towards the road.

Ezzy lets you stash her spear away before she moves up your arm to your throat, smearing blood all over your arm and neck as she goes.
Though she is, apparently, far too wired to actually fall asleep- giggling and hugging her twitching tail-tip as you travel.

You manage to get halfway back to the road- though the caravan has undoubtedly moved since- before Jin is in any state of awareness to move around.
You're alerted to the fact when the whispery sound of feathers shifting is replaced by a trilling hoot followed immediately by "Rabbits?"

You smile, and Esmerelda starts in with a cackle.
"Not anymore!"
You stroke her coils softly as you phrase your own reply.
"We have a lot of rabbits, yes."
>>
>>40651956
>tiny animal murder arena

>>
>>40652041

"Now?"

"And good morning to you to, Jin."
"Mmm. It is day, Lyra."
"But if you are awake at night, doesn't that mean that sunset is morning?"
The harpy closes her eyes momentarily to consider it, but she shakes her head.

"Morning is morning and day is day and night is night."
"Well, then. Good day, Jin."
"Good day Lyra. Good day, Ezzy."

You smile and stay on track, dragging what is likely a ton of rabbit behind you.

"How have the nights been, yes? You and Sheszka have been working hard."
"I get to sit and watch at night. And if something appears, I make light. Or fight it."
"Mhm."

She ruffles her feathers carefully, smiling.
"What are the days like?"
"I walk a lot. It is boring."

The conversation is back and forth as the sun dips ever lower, the creak of wagons and the occasional neigh of a horse the only sound as you close on the caravan once more.

>>
>>40652100
A number between one and thematically appropriate

Ezzy is closer due to what she has to do to level up; Namely, not fight huge monsters. Lyra might beat her simply due to being awake more often and doing things.

>>40652129
Lyra's problem is her huge ass, and its inability to fit into a cart containing anything else.

>>40652143
I don't think there's anything official, outside of a few named in the LN/Comic. For the most part, it seems to not give anything an actual name, opting instead for 'God of' or 'Demi-god of' and then listing their main aspect.
You can use the elements of course, and then just run with anything else you want.

>>40652145
Snake isn't so much a psychopath as she simply feels absolutely nothing when it comes to food.
Also, the combat rush and her newfound ability to do things gets her all riled up.
Lyra's vaguely worried that she's raising a battle junkie to rival her mother.
And of course Lyra is completely unaware of the irony of the above statement.

>>40652169
I'll do my best to work in some interaction. If nothing else, rotating the night shift will happen.

The dream sequence was decided upon- It'll give a short 'feeling' about each evolution, possibly an impression of the physical changes and the name of the ones you qualify for.

>Deinos means terryfying, so I assume at least in part it comes from our intimidating things into obedience
Pretty sure that went into Tyrant mostly, and Deino is more the "giant Alpha Predator" evolution.

>"Shit Bob, this bitch qualifies for like, six evolutions. The fuck do we do, six yes or no questions can't fit into a single night!"
>"Just halfass a dream sequence, they'll even feel special about it."

I just keep imagining a t-rex/spider cross and I can't stop smiling oh god I want it

>Sovereign Arachne

Nooooooo. We don't need to give Nin anymore justification to go around proclaiming us as Queen of the Forest.

>Anon liking dream sequence evo options
Hahahahahahahaha!

The Fate Spider is just laughing madly in the background, the Wenidago God is in the corner drinking away his issues

That is pretty damn laughable!

I nearly want all of our evos be "presented" by a appropriate NPC praising its virtues, just so we can get everyone saying stuff like

Grave Lord
>Nialla: "Prepare yourself for more sparring, upstart!"

Tyrant
>Sheszka: "My Alpha is the STRONGEST!"

And Sovereign is just dreamNin hyperventilating in excitement.
