So, news.

Not sure if I told you guys yet or not, but there's not going to be any thread on the 14th of July. I'll be out of town visiting some friends, and won't have time to plan or set up a thread for you guys at all, even if i end up with time to run one.

Sorry about the last couple of delays and cancellations, feels like it's been a while since I actually ran a thread, haha!

anyway, archive here:

"So what do we think?" You ask from the bed, a copy of the New York times in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. You'd seen no reason to get up when Katya had, your judgment call proving the better when she came back with the coffee and the paper.

"Of?" She asks, poking her head around the corner of the door to the bathroom, making sure to make it clear she's in a state of what you'd call 'advanced undress'. More to the point, topless, at least.

"Anya." You respond, without staring too long. Even after last night- your paranoia had necessitated making sure the girls were well and truly asleep before doing anything, which in turn meant you stayed up far too late with Katya- she's really, really nice to look at. Even nicer to feel, but you don't have time for that right now. Far, far too late, and you were already kind of hurting from spending time with Ice and Slider earlier in the week, though, to be fair, you didn't try and protest, and you can't say you regret the decision.

Though you're thinking Ice's ball gag may have to become part of your traveling gear. If you hadn't have known any better, you'd have said she was trying to wake the girls.

She sighs, disappearing back around the door and emerging a second later, wearing a pair of ranger panties and not much else. She shakes her head. "I am not certain." She says. "She does not seem to be trusting you as her sisters do."

1/3
>>
"I've noticed." You say as she flops onto the bed, worming her way over to cozy up next to you. "She seems ok with you, though."

She nods. "This is a small favor, I am thinking. She trusts me more because I am not the infamous butcher and I am pulling her out of her ruined aircraft." She smiles at you. "I learned how to do this after Alaska."

You look over at her. "You just so happened to learn this?"

She nods, taking the opportunity to steal a kiss. "I learn many things quickly." She gives you an impish smile, pulling back. "You should be realizing this already."

"Oh, I have." You say with a grin of your own. "But let's not get sidetracked. What do we do about Anya?"

"I would fall in love with a man that does not always think of sex." She pouts for a second, still grinning. "I am not sure, Frank." She says as you pull in a breath to repeat your question. "We will have to give her time before we can know. She was badly mistreated."

You're careful about agreeing- while you absolutely do agree that she was, Katya's been pretty open about her shock and discomfort at the actions of her countrymen. You've made sure to make it clear that you don't hold her responsible at all- after all, there's no way she could have known, or, even if she had, done anything to stop it, it sounds like- but that's not seemed to help much.

You nod. "Well, the only thing I can really think to do is include her like she's one of ours." You say, folding the paper and finishing the coffee.

2/3
>>
Katya nods, agreeing. "I think that is perhaps for the best. We will have to be getting her more clothing, she is too big to be borrowing anything of Staysa or Lilya's, and I do not wish to have her wear a uniform much if it can be helped." That, you know, is part of the plan, especially after you experience with Stasya and Lilya- get her civilian clothes, her own civilian clothes, as soon as you can. Breaking even that one seemingly minor routine of always dressing in uniform seemed to help immensely with them.

"Do we have time though?" You ask. You can think of a few places- you did have to shop here for Wendy's birthday, afterall- but you're not really sure if any of them will work for Anya. In fact, you're relatively sure they won't.

She shrugs. "I am not sure. You are knowing the matrons are very anxious to talk to Stasya and Lilya."

You nod. "I'm still not sold on that. Digging up their past isn't going to do them much good."

"So tell them no." Katya says. "You are a guardian. This is a thing that you can do if you believe it will serve them better."

"But will it?" You ask, second guessing yourself as much as responding to her. "I mean, what if they want to know, or have family or-"

She shakes her head. "You can be sure that they do not have family left. Loose ends."

3/4
>>
"Fine. But maybe it will give them at least a little closure to know what their first decade was like, before this all happened."

She nods. "Maybe. Maybe they are not worrying, because they have you."

"Us." You correct, almost automatically.

She laughs. "You are seeing what you want to, if you are thinking this. They both prefer you to anyone else, Stasya most of all. They certainly prefer you to me, and we are both knowing why." She says.

"I'll ask them at chow." You say, giving up for the moment. She laughs again.

"The matrons will wish for an answer there." She says. "The rest of the house staff will have already eaten, but there is no rule that one cannot visit with guests as they are eating. You will make the girls decide for themselves?"

It's their past, their choice no matter how much its something that should be dealt with. Ya never know maybe deep down one or the other is curious. Best night of the week!
>>40646643
As I understand it the first one leaves the choice up to Stasya and Lilya, choice two is a flat out no to both giving the girls a choice and to the Matrons, and three is a not giving the girls a choice and allowing the Matrons to question them.

This means that we will let the girls know what happened to them before Russia. The may be told ASAP by the local witch coven. And this may lead to them immediately changing their minds on certain things.
>[] No, and you're right. It won't help them at all anyway, we'll just let it lie.
This one means that the girls will not be told not and there's a chance that this means we decide to NEVER tell them about their past.
>[] No, but I think they need to know, even if they don't want to right now.
This one means that the girls will not be told now, but will be told later. In my opinion this is the best choice as we can chose to tell them later when we have ore info at our disposal.

>Admiral Nixon had expirienced similar situations before. They were either angry officers entering his office for a shouting match after a pilot made one too many high speed passes of towers and other structures or groups of civilians. On one occasion causing the skirt of an admiral's daughter to fly upwards, showing everyone nearby what colour panties she was wearing that day.
>On other occasions it was witches coming in trying to seduce him for a quick jump up the officer tree. But on those occasions they were neither wearing so much OR carrying firearms with the intent to use them on some poor sod. Just like how the three witches now standing in the frame of his door were now.
Ice: Admiral. It has come to my attention that one of my pilots was recently shot down.
>Lieutenant commander Tabitha Kazanski spoke with the voice of a woman close to snapping, matching the cold and terrifying look on her face. One that the two witches beside her wore as well.
Nixon: Indeed, I was just recently informed of Frank Bishop being shot down. The situation that caused the shoot down is unknown. We are currently scrambling rescue units to recover him as soon as possible.
>Nixon chose his words with extreme care. His face betrayed no fear, unlike the Junior officer next to him. The man shaking in fear of the three armed and VERY angry witches in the door.
Ice: You have the location. Give it to us so that we can recover OUR pilot.
>The lieutenant commander's voice seeminlg became more strained as she continued speaking. She walked towards Nixon's desk, her composure barely maintaned.
Nixon: Here, it's on this piece of paper.
>The Admiral handed Kazanski her prize, which she took immediately. The two witches behind her bolting away, likely to the hanger to get into their strikers.

>Ice saluted the Admiral who returned the salute . And less than a second later she was gone. The sound of running boots filling the air as the witch left the building in a hurry. Leaving the admiral and a very shocked Junior Officer alone in the room. They both waited in silence for just a moment or two, before Nixon reached into his drawer and pulled out a glass and a bottle of Whiskey.
Nixon: Son, go and inform the ACT that we have three witches launching immediately and that they should be allowed to go about their business.
>The junior officer stood for a few seconds, before coming back to his senses and nodding to the Admiral. Before they both exchanged a salute and the Junior Officer left in a hurry to warn the ACT of what was coming. Now leaving Nixon alone in the less private room.
Nixon: Goddamn it Frank, this is going to cause a shitstorm.
>Nixon muttered to himself as he looked out his window. Where he could see three familiar witches in their strikers taxing towards the runway. Nixon sighed once again and drank his whiskey, waiting for the inevitable end.

[x] They were going to anyway. This way, they just don't have me as a messenger.

"They were going to anyway." You respond. "The only difference is that this way, they just don't have me as a messenger."

Katya nods, getting back up to actually get dressed. "What are you thinking they will be saying?" She asks.

"No idea." You respond. "I get the impression both of them are curious, but at the same time, it's pretty easy to see where something like this could be interpreted wrong by either of them. Especially if-"

"They have surviving family?" Katya asks.

You nod. "Yeah. Worst case is they do and the family wants them returned... annnnd I just realized how horrible that sounded."

Katya laughs. "It is making sense, though. They need stability in addition to everything else you are giving them, being taken away, even to return to family, will not help them."

"And we know it won't be surviving immediate family." You point out. "Assuming they are who Longstreet thinks they are, there isn't any left."

She emerges from the bathroom, adjusting her uniform top. You're trying to figure out how she changed into different skivvies so quickly, and where she got a pair of side-ties anyway. You shake the thought off. "This does not mean their family would not be having a case." she says.

You nod, trying not to think of that whole potential situation. "Yeah, I know. and the real trouble is that no one is going to listen to the girls, they're too young to make the decision for themselves, according to the courts."

1/3
>>
"You are not agreeing?" Katya asks, as you stand up to get dressed yourself.

"I'm not sure." You say. "They're really easy to influence, we've seen that."

"They are conditioned to obey orders." Katya corrects. "But they will not want to leave you."

You sigh. "Yeah, I know. And that's part of the problem."

She comes into the bathroom behind you. "You are thinking their family might be a better place for them?"

You nod. "Yeah, kinda. Shit, I'm not even twenty five yet, I'm a fighter pilot, and-"

"And you are worried about dying." She says, flatly.

You hesitate before nodding again. "Yeah."

She sighs, wrapping her arms around you from behind, standing there for a minute before responding. "Do not think that they will be alone if you do not make it back one day." She says. "As much as they are your responsibility, they are our daughters now, too. They would still be cared for and loved, if not by you."

You nod. "I- yeah. Yeah. I know. It's just-"

"It is the same as it always is." She says, pulling back. "You are too willing to take on too much to protect people."

You laugh. "Is that it? I'd rather avoid the headache of a legal battle over their future, you know."

She echos your laugh, though it's more at you than with you. "That is your concern? Legally, to my understanding, you are their father now. They have both taken your last name, and are in almost all respects, your daughters. I am also wondering how far against the covens a court is willing to go."

"I'd still rather not find out." You say, zipping up your flight suit up the rest of the way.

2/4
>>
She doesn't respond to that one, already stepping out into the living room, and greeting the girls, who are apparently already awake.

You step out a bit behind her, strapping your watch to your wrist. The girls are sitting on one couch, both dressed, while Anya is hugging Katya. Both their heads swivel around to look at you, kind of like turrets swiveling to acquire a target.

"Morning girls." You greet as they both get up to hug you. "Sleep well?"

They both nod.

"Good! Ready to get some food?"

They both nod again.

You hold out your hand to Lilya, while Stasya climbs on your shoulders, her heels dangling against your chest. Anya holds Katya's hand on the way down to the dining hall, which you're taking as a good sign.

The dining hall is mostly empty, occupied by one older witch with a mass of shockingly red hair. She looks up as you enter and nods once to herself. "Good Morning, Lieutenant Commander Bishop." She greets. "You're late for breakfast."

You give her a small smile. "Sorry, nobody warned us."

She laughs. "It's no big deal." She responds. "I had them cook up a more American breakfast for you. It's not bad, though their take on scrambled eggs is a bit different. And they fried potatoes, there's no hash browns. The juice is pretty good though. Fresh, had one of the girls squeeze it this morning."

"Oh man, really?" You ask. She nods. "Hell yeah. Haven't had good orange juice in a while."

She laughs. "Go ahead and Sit down, eat."

"You going to go get the matrons?" You ask, shooting a sideways look at her as you do.

She shrugs. "I can call 'em, if that's what you mean. Otherwise, nah. I've got my own things to do today, and minding a bunch of matrons busy trying to dig up shit doesn't interest me in the least."

3/4
>>
"Ah, but it interests us, miss Young." Lady Dowding says from the door, sweeping in with another dark-haired woman you don't recognize. "Good morning, Sir Bishop, Miss Litvyak. Girls." She says, taking a seat across from Katya. "I rather suspect you know why we're here."

You nod- so do the girls.

"Ah, wonderful. Then I imagine you know we're rather anxious for a response."

You look at the girls, who look up at you. "Girls?" You prompt. "Do you want to talk with the Matrons? Maybe help find out your past?"

They both vigorously shake their heads no, their eyes going wide when you ask.

"Ah." Matron Dowding responds, her tone carefully neutral.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

Yes, they need to grow up, but THIS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD FORCE THEM TO SIT THROUGH WHEN THEY'RE NOT READY.

Like... seriously. There's 'growing up' then 'peeling off scabs over fresh, traumatic wounds'. This is the latter, people.

So I've been thinking guys.

Halo with witches. Instead of kidnapping orphans, the UNSC kidnapped young witches instead. The covens (mostly) don't know this, and the covens that do are cowed into submission via blackmail and/or matrons sympathetic to the cause (think Longstreet-type matrons)

So you look for specific witch traits. Girls that can predict a few seconds of the future? Take them. Girls with stealth capabilities (a la Tarin?)

Take them as well. Basically, you create yourself a witch crew full of invisi-witches and seers, and enhance them with the super soldier serum. Then you give them a suit of humanity's most advanced powered armour (which double as foci, allowing them to greatly magnify their abilities), and tell them to kill whoever the UNSC thinks are its enemies.

How would you like this for a quest thread? :?

>>
>>40649722
We already have far too many witch thread as it is.

Also Halo a shit.
>>
>>40649722
I can't imagine the covens A) wouldn't know of it and B) would acquiesce to it without their participation
>>
>>40649722
First, they wouldn't need to kidnap Witches. Or make SPARTAN IIs. Becauses Witches would serve in the same role as SPARTAN IIs. And possibly be better than them. MJOLNIR would probably be developed to enhance Witches' combat abilities.

Second, that plan sounds way more like Paragonsky than it does Halsey. (Or *cough* COG breeding pit *cough*.) And you NEVER go Paragonsky. That way lies Traviss-ty
>>
>>40649722
So "Strike witches 2506-2552"?

That would take a lot of changes and morphing of the SW and halo lore. But I might take part in that quest IF it happened.
>>
>>40649722
I highly doubt any covens would be complicit in such a scheme.

>Then you give them a suit of humanity's most advanced powered armour (which double as foci, allowing them to greatly magnify their abilities),
How is this any different from striker units?

>>
>>40649778
*shrug* Government coverups. Earth in the Halo universe is basically under what I presume to be a military dictatorship (?)

>>40649774
Huh. Didn't know we had too much.

And point, but I want muh witches in powered armour.

>>40649812
I tend to go grimderp for some reason, so this is just a symptom of it. Yeah, you're right, they'd probably go the volunteer route.

>>40649818
Just throwing ideas out there.

>>40649841
Armour instead of just skin, for one. That and even more strength enhancement, a secondary layer of shields, passive environmental protection (instead of relying on the witch's own shields, which is potentially life threatening if they get KO'd), and in-built healing systems.
>>
>>40649858

IMHO I'd just take the basic framework for the world and then just go on my own from there.

But seeing that people really don't want another witch thread right now I might as well axe the idea right now.

True, but even dictatorships have to listen to their witches, or they risk losing the support of said witches
>>
>>40649858
And at least Ace Combat and Strike Witches have some common ground- crazy dogfights, aces that are practically (or literally) superhuman, that sort of thing.
>>

[x] Girls, it doesn't hurt to find out, just so we know.

"Girls, it doesn't hurt to find out, just so we know." You say setting down your fork and looking over at them.

They look at each other before Stasya looks back at you, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. "A-Anya said that if we found out and we had other families, we'd have to go back to them!" She says, rising panic clear in her voice. "We don't want to leave!"

"Girls-" you pause, at a loss for how to proceed. While you know they probably wouldn't be forced to do anything, there's the possibility Anya's right- you just had that discussion about this with Katya.

"I believe we could come to an arrangement regarding that." Matron Dowding says, coming to your rescue here.

"How?" You ask.

"The coven has a right to know if their witches are still alive," She says, carefully. "But it is quite clear to us that your girls, rightly, consider you their father and don't wish to leave you for yet another caretaker. We would, of course, inform any surviving family, but we can make it clear that their status as your adopted daughters and wards is not up for discussion."

"And the family would just accept that?" Katya asks. "They are not important to Frank alone."

1/2
>>
>>40650041
it's always worth the attempt. But at the moment /tg/ is filled with magical girl/strike witches spin-off's and copies. If you want to run a halo based quest then by all means then do. Just don't try adding in much anime links, else people get butt hurt.
>>
Dowding looks over at her compatriot, who gives a slight shrug. "Not for certain, no." She admits. "But the German coven has maintained a very good position over the years since the war, and are well regarded. Similarly, should it come to it, more... underhanded methods can be used. Influencing the courts isn't beyond the scope of a coven."

"You're willing to do that, just to confirm who they are?" You ask.

She nods. "Sir Bishop, it is incredibly important to a coven to know where their witches are, and what their status is. We're willing to go to great lengths to know. A witch never just disappears."

"I take it there's some history there?" You ask, noting that the girls, both of them, are following the conversation closely.

Matron Dowding nods. "Quite a bit, yes. It is part of the reason the position of guardian exists and is so widely recognized. But we can discuss that later. If we agree that, no matter what, the girls can stay with you if that is their wish, will you agree to allowing an interview?"

Counterproposition:
A 20th century political advisor faces dire challenges and seeks to summon the great Chinese thinkers of yore to assist.
Little did he know they were all cute witches!

>Confucius is a clever, but self-serving chubster with cow tits who stacks the deck in favor of those "enlightened" by her teachings. (CN:So, will you fulfill your obligations as husband to your wife? MC: Husband? I'm not your husband! CN: Well, you are a bit young to be my father, you're not my brother and you surely aren't my king. MC: Woah, woah! You are forgetting the relationship between two friends! CN: Spoilsport.)

>Laozi is a lazy bum whose familiar is a tortoise which gives her a tail she likes to drag through mud all day while she drums on her shell and sings about how all government is deception and how much better it is to be an oaf

>Han Fei is a slight girl with the posture of an empress, rhetorical genius and a crippeling stammer which is why she answers all important questions in written form (MC: Pass me the sugar, please. HF: H-hand me your cup. I'll p-put in the sugar. MC: Why not give me the sugar? HF: Be-because then you w-w-wouldn't need me a-anymore.)

On second thought, is there anyone here who could run such a thing? Meaning, anyone who read all their books?

[] Write in!

"Well girls, what do you think?" You ask, looking back at them. "If you can stay with us, do you want to find out?"

They both hesitate, and you're about to prompt them again when Stasya nods, slowly.

"Lilya?" You ask, still getting no response out of her.

She thinks it over even longer than her sister. "I-if you promise we don't ever have to leave." She says, quietly, in one of the few times she's spoken around other people.

You look over at Matron Dowding, who nods. "You have my word on it as Headmatron to the crown." She says, rather officially sounding.

"And mine." Her friend adds, quickly. "Our headmatron will agree to use everything in our power to make certain your judgment as guardian is not questioned."

"It's more about me being a dad." You point out, trying on a bit of humor to lighten the mood- the matron, for her part, only nods.

"So what all will this entail?" You ask, after a second.

"Oh, it's actually quite simple." Matron Dowding responds. "If they were old enough to have taken their intake tests, then all they will have to do is summon a circle for us." She says.

"That's it?" You ask- you know what she means by 'circle', surprisingly enough.

She nods. "Each witch is unique." She says, explaining somewhat. "You could think of her circle as her magical fingerprint. If they've taken intake tests, then we'll be able to tell who they are."

"That quickly? Must have a hell of a memory." You say, surprised. She laughs.

"Oh no, not that simply, but it's all written down at the Berlin academy. Every witch that has ever taken the tests here in Germany has her imprint recorded there. We'll go there, and it's a simple matter of summoning a circle and letting us reference it against the records."

"How long?" You ask.

"Oh, no more than an hour, I should think." She says. "If you want, we can also test your Anya."

"I am not his." Anya responds, her voice carrying a bit of heat.

"I- I am sorry." The younger witch mumbles. "I will do this if it is what you want."

"What do you want to do?" You ask.

"I don't care." She says. "My past isn't important to me."

"Anya will be glad to." Katya fills in for her. "As soon as we finish breakfast?"

"Splendid!" Matron Dowding says, finishing her tea and standing up. "We shall go fetch the cars."

As soon as they're gone, Katya looks over at Anya, who's paying more attention to her plate than anything else. Stasya and Lilya have both finished, and are looking at you. "Anya." Katya says.

The young witch doesn't look up.

"Anya." She says again, a touch more forcefully. This time, Anya does look up, tears sparkling in her eyes. "Anya, we are, all of us, a family. No one belongs to anyone here, and we will all do our best for you. When someone says a thing like the matron said, they are meaning it as your are his daughter."

"But I'm not." She says. "He said it. I am his ward. And he is the butcher, how can anyone be the daughter of someone like that?"

>>
"Don't talk about papa like that." Stasya practically snarls. "He could have killed Lilya and I. He would have, if we hadn't agreed to surrender. But he's never, ever hurt us."

Anya rocks back under the words, like they're a physical thing. "S-stasya-"

"No. I don't know what they said, but papa is a good person. He's never done any of the things they used to do to us. He let us get new implants, like his. Anya, the headaches and the buzzing, are gone."

"G-gone?"

"Gone." Lilya confirms.

"So don't talk about our papa like that." Stasya says. "Or we won't talk to you anymore."

Anya nods, the tears forming in her eyes again. "I-I'm sorry..." She practically whispers.

You stand up and walk over, putting a hand on her shoulder- she looks up at you, her eyes watery.

You sweep her up into a hug and she goes utterly limp, just hanging there, starting to cry, silently, into your chest.

Katya gives you a bit of a smile, then sandwitches the young witch between the two of you, stretching to wrap her arms around the both of you, while Stasya and Lilya try to join in as best they can. You stand like that for a minute before setting Anya back down. She gravitates a bit towards Katya, but still smiles, if weakly, at you.

Debatable. After all, we only ever learned about that through the lens of her own buas, which cannot nesecarially be taken as fact.

And her current methodology is arguably getting others killed by her relative inaction and aversion to risk. She is in no way blameless.

Honestly, the only real issue that I really had with MacLeod was that she never gave us a break. Never, until we got our ass shot down and she got a massive dose of the D.

Like, first thing she does when we get off the transport is pull us into her office and start to talk shit about us. No quiet observation, no respectful discussion, nothing. That, more than anything, made her unlikable in my book.

Yes, she does bring up some good points, but like Longstreet she completely burns her bridges instead of giving respect or common courtesy where it's due.

Merlin's small hands were a comfy fit within Kenji's calloused palms. Her delicate skin felt so soft and warm. He gently squeezed them before slipping his fingers in between hers and intertwining them tightly so that neither of them could ever let go, not that they wanted to.

"Merlin, I love you."

Witch privileges are the most BS in-universe thing.

She has very valid points, but dammit, we're not even in the same service! Instead of just saying "don't go full PILOT because that will break your witches hearts" or realising that they're at war, which means any of them could get blindsided and killed, witch or not.

Ice's grandfather raised a really good point. It's like sending in children to play war, not fight it. They (the witches) don't even realise the true enormity of what they do on a daily basis.

The point was made in SWQ-vanilla that the witches had lost 8 souls since the martians had invaded. 8 FUCKING WITCHES. Compared to the at least hundreds of thousands of non-magical folk. To them it's a lot more of a game than it is to everyone else. Admittedly that has probably somewhat changed in '89 but the point still stands.

And now a daring Slider.

'So broad,' Rachel thought of Frank's shoulder out of the corner of her eye as they watched some boring documentary while lounging in the sofa. 'So strong and heroic, and yet so gentle and selfless....'

As the TV movie wore on, she dared to lean into his side and rest her head upon that enticing shoulder, the better to savor his warmth and presence. She was rewarded by the feel of his arm slipping behind her and the hand resting upon her waist to draw her closer to him and hold her tight like he'd never let her go.

"I wish this could last forever, Frank," she whispered.

"Me, too," he promised.

They sat like that for the rest of the night.

I wonder why or even how they managed to keep that naive worldview alive for more than forty years. Surely in the great span of time that witches have been around someone must have seen the horrors of war and imparted those stories as a word of caution that they shouldn't let their guard down.

But this is a universe where girls without pants fly around on booster stockings shooting aliens and planes down while having fights over males. I guess logic takes a major backseat here.

Still pisses me off though.
>>
>>40653267

Judging from '89, there are quite some witches casualties too, especially from Russian side.
Not to mention other wars like 'Stan where witches also dead as easily.

Natalya blinked. In the brief time she'd spent replenishing her water intake, Konstantina had somehow fallen asleep.

The older Witch was slumped across the sofa. It was to be expected. Even an exemplar like Konstantina could only take so many grueling dawn patrols of the skies above the beleaguered Strana Mechty.

"My darlink," Konstantina mumbled. Obviously she was dreaming of The Eagle. Of happy times, given her faint smile.

Natalya swept her gaze across the room. Satisfied that the area was clear of hostiles, she reached out to Konstantina's head and ran her fingers through the other girl's thick black mane, gently rubbing her fingertips across Konstantina's soft scalp.

'Fluffy...'

[x] You girls ready to go now?

"You girls ready to go now?" You ask, looking down at Stasya and Lilya, who've both claimed one of your hands. They both nod- a second later, Anya does too, though she takes one of Katya's hands.

"Do you hear buzzing too, Anya?" You ask on the way to the front, where a trio of Mercedes sedans waits. She nods.

"And headaches, papa." Stasya fills in. "Our implants caused headaches... but we didn't know that until you let us have new ones."

Lilya nods. "It's nice to not always hurt." She says, quietly.

"Always?" You ask, alarmed by this sudden revelation. Stasya picks up on it immediately and nods.

"Always, papa. But we didn't know it until we had these new ones." She says. "We thought it was supposed to be like that. When we got these new ones, the hurting went away."

You look over at Anya, who's listening intently. "Anya?" You ask, and she looks over at you. "Does your head hurt?"

She shrugs. "Always. But it is ok, I've learned to manage it."

You chew your lip. "Alright. when we're done here, I'll see if we can't contact the doctors that handled our implants, maybe see if we can get yours replaced or removed." You say. "I can't promise anything, but no harm in asking."

She nods carefully. "That would be nice. I wonder what it's like?"

"It's wonderful." Stasya says. "I told you, papa's the best, you'll see."

Anya doesn't respond, instead squinting as you step out into the bright Berlin morning to find the cars waiting. You split up- you have to- with Katya riding with Anya and the German matron, while you ride with both girls in the back of the second vehicle, while matron Dowding sits up front.

1/4
>>
"Normally," she says, as you approach the grounds of the German witch academy. "Men aren't allowed inside the gates except with escort. Much like Castle Barin, in that regard." She looks over her shoulder at you. "You're exempt from that particular rule, owing to your status, but I'm rather afraid we don't have time to sightsee."

"Just in and out, huh?" You ask, and she nods.

"That's our plan, yes." She says. "Really, we don't want to take too much of your time, and the tests themselves are quite simple and painless."

"I still want to be there." You say, still holding the girl's hands as you exit the car and look up at the big main building. there's several others nearby, and a small grass strip with a windsock and a pair of rounded hangars- no doubt for the training strikers. The whole place just feels old, though the buildings, all of them, look relatively modern.

You follow the Matron Dowding inside, being greeted as you do by several older women, none of whom you've seen before. One of them, probably the headmatron, steps forward. "Matron London." She says, her accent surprisingly light. "Matrons Young and Barkhorn send their regards, but won't be attending." She looks down at Stasya and Lilya, both of whom shrink to hid behind you. "These are our lost girls?"

"I don't think I'd should quite call them lost." Matron Dowding responds. "These are Stasya and Lilya Bishop. They claim no sisterhood, and are the wards and daughters of the guardian, Sir Frank Bishop." She says, formally introducing the girls.

Katya steps forward next, bring Anya along with her. To her credit, Anya doesn't try and hide like her 'sisters', and instead stands next to Katya.

2/4
>>
"I am Senior Lieutenant Katya Litvyak of the coven of the union of soviet socialist republics." She says. "I currently claim sisterhood with the witches of the United States Navy coven. This is Anya, who claims no sisterhood, and is the ward of the guardian, Sir Frank Bishop." She says, again using the more formal method of greetings.

You have it easy- as a guardian, all you have to be able to prove is that you are who you say you are. Formality doesn't stand much for you, apparently- though it's also more that you're not expected to talk much in a situation like this. Apparently, guardians are best seen, not heard.

The Matron nods, and steps away, indicating that you should follow her. She leads you all to a fairly large, empty room. The floors in here are hardwood, and are aged to almost black. Several chairs sit along one side of the room, while a series of wooden bleachers rest along another wall, with stairs cutting through their middle and down both sides.

The matrons all take the chairs on the floor, while you and Katya and the girls stand. "Whenever you're ready, dear." Lady Dowding says, addressing the girls.

"Who wants to go first?" You ask, looking down at the girls. Neither of them responds for a second, then Stasya lets go of your hand and walks out to the middle of the floor. You smile at the sign of confidence- you're pretty sure, earlier, you'd have had to walk out there with her.

3/4
>>
Without being ordered, her familiar pops into existence, small, triangular ears appearing on her head and a cat's tail sprouting from the base of her spine. A magical circle grows beneath her, bathing the room in a brilliant blue light.

It all disappears just as suddenly when one of the matrons nods, and Stasya walks back over to you, her tail twitching back and forth. "Good job Stasya." You say, causing her to look up at you, a faint smile on her lips. "Lilya?" You ask, and your other daughter nods, stepping forward.

She summons her own familiar, a rabbit, and large white-furred ears and a little tuft of a tail appear, along with her pale blue magic circle on the floor. She dismisses it all as quickly as the matrons nod, and walks back, smiling. You kneel down to hug them both while Anya, more cautiously, makes her way onto the floor.

You're surprised to see her familiar- a spider of some sort, judging by the number of legs. You've never seen that one before, but, judging by the looks of the matrons, it's not too rare. Her circle is a stormy blue-white, the color of distant lightning. As soon as the matrons nod, she dismisses everything, her familiar disappearing the same instant as her circle.

Lady Dowding stands up first, while the German witches head out via a different door.

"They'll consult the archives." She says, ushering you all out- you notice, of the girls, only Stasya hasn't dismissed her familiar. "We'll be notified as soon as they've made a match."

"You sound sure they will." You respond.

"Relatively sure." She says. "In the mean time, until further orders come through, you're welcome to remain at the hold and enjoy the city. The meals are free there, however you'll be expected to help out with the chores."

"Maybe I'll cook." You say, remembering Rusty and his very out of place butcher shop. You could go for a T-bone right now anyway, and you're not sure you're a big fan of sauerkraut.

"Too slow, Oggy!"

"Come back here, you!"

Katsumi could not help but giggle as her favored bodyguard dragged her by the hand through the uguisubari-floored hallways of Nijō Castle. The dry nightingable boards beneath their sandled feet trilled like a flock of their merry little songbird namesake.

Forget the darkness and death of the War. Forget her solemn duties as a Princess of Imperial Japan. Forget Ayumi's constant complaints about impropriety. (But not Ayumi herself, who was currently hot on their heels yelling for the cackling Jess to unhand the Princess. After all, Katsumi's harem would not be complete without Jess' dear 'Oggy', yes?)

Jess Bishop made Katsumi feel so light-hearted and light-headed, so free and true and herself. And the cherry blossom maiden would give up everything to fly with her knight in shining armor forever and ever.

Tonks when?

Sometimes Rockfield wonders if giving the docs free reign to slice up her back and literally stiffen her injured spine with a steel implant straight out of a bad sci-fi combat novel was worth the chance of agony in the future.

It was within her rights as a Witch to request a transfer home and wait six months for a session with a healwitch who'd complete.

But all she has to do is glance at the oft-confrontational and stubbornly pig-headed man who was carefully supporting her by the slim waist on the way to the bathroom without complaint or embarrassment or even prompting.

All she can think of how he risked his life to save her from certain death and then pass off his bonafide heroism as a mere consequence of duty.

The only thing she can think of is spending six months away from him, without him.

And Top knows she made the right decision. Knows she'd do it again in a heartbeat. All for the chance to continue fighting alongside him, to protect him against all who dared to harm him, be it the Soviets or That Woman. To stay by his side for as long as she lived, no matter what it took.

"Thanks, Cap," Rockfield told her CO.

"My pleasure, Top."

I didn't go through the SWQ 89 archive, Feelthy's pastebin, an online thesaurus, and a site about fighter pilot quotes for this snippet because I l-l-like you or anything, Anon. Baka~

Speed is life. The cushion of sloppiness. The most important thing to a fighter pilot. The faster you go, the quicker you can take the bounce and get to the Ivan. Like sneaking up behind someone and hitting them in the back of the head with a rolling courtmartial.

So the irony was not lost on Katherine Young that one Patricia Mitchell dropped into her life with all the warning issued by her old man's Black Widow, proving that even one who was brought up in the bounce by the Bounce Lord of Barin himself could still be bounced.

Like now, lying prone on her left side and treated to the breathtaking vista of the soundly sleeping Patty, whose curves rose and fell with every breath she took. The delicate ink-work of thorns and flowers astride Mav's bare right flank was a pleasant bonus and apropos for the tempestuous girl it adorned.

Katherine dribbled her fingers across the length of the intricate emerald vine spanning her lover's side. Patty shivered, grumbled something that sounded like "Frank, you jerk", and then grabbed Kitty's intruding hand and pulled her close.

Who knew the fearsome squid Witch Maverick was a terminal cuddler?

Screw speed, Katherine thought as she draped her arm around Patty. Screw the bounce. Not just this once, she was going to take her sweet time enjoying life as she knew it.

Or until something better is cleared for her we can let her playing with Bat.
Face it, Nixon will not let Anya go into combat sortie anytime soon, even with Frank and Katya's assurance.

Frank, you jerk
This...kinda makes me a bit sad

Ice is a close second. Lilya really likes Ice. (Ice reminds her of her mother, who had the same pale kind of hair, but she doesn't know that.)

>>40654750

Unlikley, at this point. Anya's too much of an unknown, and that bit she pulled in kidnapping the girls didn't look real good. Plus VF-3 is at establishment, and throwing another pilot their way- even in a case like Anya's- is unlikley.

Besides. Anya may not want to fly anymore.

>Face it, Nixon will not let Anya go into combat sortie
Frankly I don't thinks he should be flying at all. i'm just pointing out that fitting anything with VDNI that isn't a state-of the art killjet or a specific trainer for said killjet is going to be pretty much a no-go.
>>

>Besides. Anya may not want to fly anymore.
Yeah her attitude and comments seem to indicate she wants nothing to do with flying or fighting anymore, how she stowed her familiar immediately and is touchy around those subjects etc.
>>
>>40654864
>Not wanting to fly anymore.

I find that kind of sad in a way. Sure she doesn't have to fight anymore but considering she's a witch and a few other reasons, I find it weird to just not fly anymore.
>>
>>40654935
obviously she wants to go full tonks
>>
>>40654964
Unlikely but it just feel a bit weird for her not wanting to fly or even worse not use her witch talent,

If she decides to go on a different path that's fine, maybe as a heal witch or something is fine but it feels a bit strange.

Thanks, I missed that. Must be getting tired to make a mistake like that. Lemme try that again...

[spoilers]"Say 'Aaahhh', Misono~"

Meals used to be hurried and lonely affairs for the only child of a Very Important Personage. Her mother died young and her late father had been too busy with the affairs of state to marry again- or to pay much attention to her. She'd been brought up by family retainers and had no real friends, not even in the Witch Hold where she'd honed her magic in a desperate attempt to win affection from her father.

But here? Now? She was practically spoiled and even smothered. She had a new father in Will, a new mother (but she dared not tell the ever-smiling Janice-san that), friends and sibling figures like the indefatigable Red and the cool beauty Tarin and the gentlemanly Rex and the hapless Bullseye and the absolutely tireless bundle of joy who kept insisting she was the 'senior' sister by way of preceding her.

"Hai, Laika-chan."

Misono Pierce obediently closed her mouth over the spoonful of rich chocolate cake (flown in from a certain shop in the States, apparently, a gift from the Eagle to the former Butterfly via the Demi-God of Pacific Squids a.k.a. CINCPAC) proferred by the broadly grinning Laika.

"Aaahhhnnnmmm~"

"Isn't it the best, Misono?"

"Yes. Eating with the family is the best."[/spoiler]

Part 1/2 of Spider-Anya, not-Sexya, and not-Lewdya.

When Anya first met Stasya and Lilya, she'd clung to them with the desperation of a drowning woman grasping for a life preserver. "I will protect you," she had promised the startled little girls. "I will not let anyone harm you."

She was not weak. She was strong now. Stronger than before. She could keep the scary things away. She could protect herself, was strong enough to protect others like these precious children.

And yet she couldn't stop the Colonel's cruel experiments. She lacked the strength to free them from the talons of the Butcher and could not bring herself to hurt them when they turned against her in defense of that monster. She even ended up being saved by the traitor, whom she later attacked in another desperate attempt to escape with her sisters, only to be foiled by that scary cat woman with the unintelligible accent.

Nested in the surprisingly strong and gentle arms of the man she'd hated so passionately, Anya realized that she had been wrong. So wrong. About her supposed enemies. About her strength. About herself.

She had not approached Stasya and Lilya because she was strong, but because she was alone, because she didn't want to be alone.

Many nights later, when she awoke screaming from the pursuit of formless and nameless night terrors, Anya found herself pinned between Stasya and Lilya. Her terrified sisters had wrapped themselves around her sweat-drenched body, daring the danger of her dozen flailing limbs (for Anya had unconsciously summoned her familiar out of fright) to protect her.

Katya-mat sat near her head, stroking her hair and murmuring in Russian. "It is all right, devochka," she reassured Anya with each calming brush of her fingertips. "We are here with you. We are here."
>>
Part 2/2

And he was there. Clasping his strong fingers over her clammy hands. Looking into her saucer-wide eyes without blinking or judgment or pity, only concern and understanding and wisdom beyond his apparent years.

"Are you okay, Anya?"

He wasn't a Butcher. Neither was he the Eagle.

"Father," Anya sobbed as she threw all of her arms around his bare waist. "I was so scared, Father..."

"It's all right, Anya. It's okay be to scared."

And he was right, she realized even as Lilya and Stasya and Katya added their arms to the hug. Fathers were always right.

She, Anya Bishop, would be all right.

'Because this time I am not alone.'

That's it for me. Thanks again for the inspiring thread, Ghost.
