You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

On your first day at the Red Watchtower, you and the others were welcomed with a great feast. After eating your fill and meeting an old friend of Roland's, you were shown to your room and, after some exploring (and meeting a rather talkative elf), you decided to practice fighting in Galadriel's plane against a memory of Alastor. Predictably, the fight ended with your defeat, but you put up a good fight regardless and learned a lot.

The day's events did not end there though. That night as you were sleeping, you had another vision, this time of yourself and your practice battle against Alastor. An unknown person spoke to you, calling himself a friend, and you awoke in a cold sweat. You don't know who that was, but maybe Galadriel or someone else may have an idea.

Breakfast at the Red Watchtower goes about the same as breakfast at the White Watchtower would go. Your friends are waiting for you at the same table you sat at during the feast yesterday. Unlike at the White Watchtower though, people move out of your way when you enter the dining hall, just as they did at the feast yesterday. You can feel people staring at you even after you take a seat at your friends table. Normally that would bother you, but right now you're too busy trying to make sense of your most recent vision to be bothered with that. Who was that? How did he know about your practice fight in Galadriel's plane? Who's this sister he mentioned? Why is he sending you these visions?

“Are you alright?”

“Huh, what?” Your attention snaps back to reality. The others are looking at you with worried expressions, save Ganelon, who looks pretty distracted himself.

“You've been quiet since you got here. Something on your mind?” Erika asks.

>”No, I'm fine. Just tired is all.”

"Just had some bad dreams. I'll be fine, thanks for asking. What about you Ganelon, you look pretty out of it yourself."

Ganelon, who's been staring at his food for a long time now, jump when his name is called. "Hm? Oh, yes, I'm alright."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Just a little sluggish this morning is all."

"Sounds like both of you had trouble sleeping." Justine points out.

"I suppose you could say that, yes."

"Right. Well, like I was saying, the Knight-Captain said he wants to see us after breakfast. Probably to talk about getting Galloway's support for the Crusade."

"Ah, yes. That would make sense. I've almost finished eating, if the rest of us are done then we should head there now."

"Fine by me." You agree, standing up and leaving your breakfast half finished. You weren't very hungry anyways, not after the feast last night.

Knight-Captain Arnault's office is a very spacious room, with everything neatly organized on his desk, a stark contrast to the mayhem of Laurentius' desk. A map of Galloway is lain out across the desk, marked with red circles around cities where you'll be stopping

"...And after you've resupplied here, you'll be heading to the king's palace in Tarrin, where you'll be inspected by the House of Lione. After they've given you their approval, there will be a short ceremony where the king will pledge the kingdom's support to the coming Crusade, after which there will be a celebration in honor of our alliance. Once that's done, you'll return here, then proceed into Belmore."

"How long will House Lione's inspection take?"

"Until they've decided you're either a worthy Champion, or an unworthy one."

"And what happens if for some reason they don't find him worthy?" Reinhardt asks.

"Then the king will not pledge his support. Therefore, it's very important that you prove to them that you're a worthy Champion, else this Crusade will get a lot more difficult than it's already sure to be."

>"How often has House Lione found a Champion lacking?"
>"You'd think the fact Galadriel chose me would be enough. Why does House Lione's opinion hold so much sway?"

"You'd think the fact Galadriel chose me would be enough. Why does House Lione's opinion hold so much sway?"

"I don't know if you've been told already or not, but House Lione is descended from the first Champion, Asher the Fearless."

"I'm aware. Still, why does their opinion hold so much sway that a king will base his decision on what they say?"

"Well, that's a bit of a story. You see, Asher had a son, who became the second Champion, Henry the Gluttonous. Unlike his father, he was crude and quick to anger. He died in the king's court when he choked on his food, having accomplished nothing of worth and wasting quite a bit of the king's gold. Asher's second son, Lucain, was ashamed of his brother's behavior, and swore from then on to make sure that all future Champions were worthy of his father's legacy. His children would later take on the same vow, and their children would as well, up to the present day. Their house has highly honored in Galloway, and while the king is under no obligation to listen to them, their opinion is highly valued."

"I see. And how often have they found a Champion lacking?"

"It's only happened twice before. Both later proved to be terrible Champions, adding more credibility to their opinion in the royal family's eyes. However, they did give their approval to Andras in the last crusade, so I imagine they'll be stricter than ever before to make up for their previous mistake. Just show them you're as worthy as Galadriel must think you are, and you have nothing to worry about. They'll be expecting you at the castle on the 23rd, so you'll be leaving here in three days. Take that time to make any preparations you feel are necessary, you're dismissed."
>>
>>40648856
With that, everyone starts to leave the Knight-Captain's office. You're just starting to wonder what you should do now when you feel Ganelon's gauntlet on your shoulder.

"Sorry to bother you Siegfried, but could I ask you something?"

"Hm? Sure, what's on your mind Ganelon?"

"Since we've been here, have you noticed anything...strange around here?"

"Strange? Strange how?"

Ganelon sighs. "Forget it, it's nothing. Pardon my bizarre question."

>"No, it's fine. I don't think I've seen anything strange here though, besides all the people staring at us I guess."
>"Actually, there is something." Tell him about your vision last night.

"Actually, there is something."

You tell him about your vision. The fight with Alastor, the visions of everyone dead at his feet, the voice and what it said, all of it. Ganelon listens attentively with his arms crossed. You can feel that Galadriel is listening very closely as well.

"This is a very serious situation then. I thank you for sharing this with me Siegfried."

'As do I.' Galadriel agrees mentally.

"Any clues on who or what it is that's sending me these visions?"

"I'm afraid I don't know. Does Lady Galadriel know anything?"

'I'm afraid I don't either.' She answers.

'The voice mentioned a sister, do you have siblings?'

'In a way, yes. All the angels of my circle could be considered my brothers and sisters. I do not know any who could contact you in your dreams though. If they could see you train within this plane though, then it's likely that they are in or have access to the Void.'

"Galadriel says she doesn't know either." You relay to Ganelon. "But she thinks it's someone in the Void, or someone that can travel there at least."

"I see. Indeed, that is a possibility. Perhaps it's related in some way to what I've been sensing then."

"Huh?"

"During my meditation session last night, I could feel something...odd, coming from this tower. I can't tell where it's coming from, but something is very strange here. Perhaps it's just the Archives' presence that I'm sensing, but I would be on your guard just in case. I would be careful trusting whoever it was in your visions as well."

"I'll keep that in mind. Thanks Ganelon."

"Think nothing of it, Siegfried. I will try to find out more, you just focus on preparing for our trip to Tarrin."

With that, you both go your own separate ways. Ganelon said he might be worried about nothing, but you'll stay on guard just in case.

You've been learning how to enchant equipment for a while now, might as well put what you've learned to the test. Returning to your room, you look over the notes you've taken on the enchantments you've learned thus far, and try to decide on where to start

Enchanting will take a while, it'll probably be noon by the time you're finished. To start, what should you enchant?

Eagle-motif helmet (equipped)
A plain great helm

You'll start by giving your right glove a strength enchantment. Can't go wrong with that. You remove your glove and start the saturation process...

-------
Hours later, you've finished enchanting your glove. You slide the glove back onto your hand, and throw a few practice punches to test out the enchantment. Your punches feel heavier, and your sure your sword swings will be too. Perhaps you'll give it a field test some time later.

--------
Lunch starts soon after you've finished enchanting your glove. The others wait for you at the table as usual.

"Feeling more awake now?" Joan asks, with the help of her familiar Berry.

"Yeah, I'm fine now." You reply, picking up a fork and getting started on lunch.

"You know how to do that? In that case, I would very much appreciate it if you would enchant my mace as such." Ganelon says.

"I wouldn't mind adding some extra 'Oomph!' to my greatsword either." Erika agrees.

"I don't really have a weapon, but I appreciate the thought." Berry says on Joan's behalf.

"Alright then. I'll give everyone a call when I'm ready to enchant their weapons. As for you Joan, I might be able to come up with something else since you don't really use a weapon."

"That would be nice." Berry agrees for her.

In the beginning of the quest you mentioned we could wear plate armor on top of our cloth armor. Could we still do that? I was thinking of something that could just cover our vitals, like a modern ballistic vest or ancient Greek phalanx armor, rather than the full set of medieval plate armor.
>>
>>40650241
So Sparks, if we wore plate over our cloth armour, and remembered to set aside some enchantment space for cooling, could we stack enchants?
>>
>>40650230
Does anyone else think we could probably get a suit of plate or some such and enchant it with Ward/Speed? If we fine-tune the enchants, it'd probably end up *better* than just our clothes.

Also, Sparks, I forget if you've ruled on this before, but would it be possible for us to enchant an under-layer of cloth with heat resistance? Not full on "hurphurp 200 -100", but something to make sure we generally don't cook inside our plate, if we're caught by a fire attack.

It's possible, yes. The enchantment on the cloth armor would have to be subdued somewhat though in order to not interfere with the plate's enchantments. Pretty much exactly that, yes. The overall idea being protecting the organs you need to live, while sacrificing as little mobility and agility as reasonably possible. This isn't a new concept in armor design either, in just about every civilization there were partial armors that prioritized protection to the torso while letting the user's skill keep his limbs intact in combat.

You're in the Red Watchtower, you might as well take a look at the tower's library. They're sure to have a lot of interesting stuff.

It takes a bit of wandering and you have to stop and ask for directions a few times, but eventually you find the double oak doors leading to the tower library.

The library is absolutely huge. A massive labrynth of bookshelves lies in front of you. You could probably get lost in here if you're not careful. Despite this, you see several people carrying books and ladders around, navigating the massive library with ease and organizing the shelves. There's a front desk to your right, occupied by three people, one of which you recognize as Roland's friend, Archie.

"Oh, why hello there." He calls out to you. "I can help you here if you need it."

"Probably will, this place looks like a maze." You answer.

"We hear that a lot from newcomers. I thought the same thing myself until I got used to it. Is there something in particular you're looking for?"

That much extra stuff will mess with the chest's enchantment. Things get a little messy when you have too much enchanted gear on your person.

I'll rule it like this instead. You can have all the slots previously mentioned, and one other slot for miscellaneous stuff. So there's chest, legs, hands, head, belt, and all those other slots, and one miscellaneous slot for stuff like tabards or cloaks or whatever at full strength. Cloth armor underneath plate would fall under the miscellaneous slot.
>>
>>40650994
Ah, thank you for clarifying.
Do 'all those other slots' include stuff like rings and necklaces, or would that fall under miscellaneous?
>>
>>40650994
Alright, thanks Sparks. So, I think we should eventually make the shift to Speed/Ward on our chest with more protective armor than cloth, and then dedicate that Misc. slot to Fire Protection or some such.
>>
So...

Helmet: Ward
Chest (Under): Speed+ (Cloth)
Chest (Over): Ward (Scale Mail)
Legs: Ward
Belt: Strength+
L Glove/Shield: Ward
R Glove: Strength+
L Boot: Speed+
R Boot: Speed+

>>
>>40651163
Seems reasonable.

>>
>>40651163
that's wrong. Chest under IS the misc.

Also nobody's commenting on using L Glove/Shield with Speed+ for better force distribution?
>>
>>40651163
Nah, I'd say we just spend a bit of time fine-tuning Speed/Ward and applying those to the mail, and then dedicating that Misc. slot to Fire resistance, to make sure we don't get fried.

"Do you have any books about enchantment?"

Archie chuckles. "You'd be hard pressed to find any sort of topic we don't have covered. Wait here, I'll find a couple that might suit your needs."

You wait at the front desk while Archie goes to retrieve the books. He's gone for about ten minutes before he returns from the labyrinth of shelves with two large books in hand.

"I found a few which might interest you. Have a look, see if one of them has what you're looking for. If there's anything else, I can look while you decide."

You look at the book covers in front of you. The biggest one reads "Advanced Enchantments for the Experienced Craftsman". The second one is titled "Optimal Enchantments: An Experts Guide to Making a Stronger Enchantment".

Let's start here, and boost our basics a bit. A strong foundation is the key to success.

>Iirc stat boost enchants affect the entire body equally
They do, as do enchantments that offer some sort of resistance, so if you enchant your glove to be resistant to fire or give it a Ward enchantment, you don't have to catch the fireball or grab the enemy's sword for it to work.

>>40651306
>you don't have to catch the fireball
But what if we WANT to?
>>
>>40651306
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to refine the enchantment so that it does only effect the part of the body it's applied to, but is much stronger?

>>40651237
We'd be better off if the undershirt was enchanted for speed, and the armor itself was enchanted with ward. And I still think a single piece plate armor over the torso would work better than scale mail. Its basically the same weight irl, and can dissipate blunt force better than scales can, and we are bound to face blunt force attacks.
>>
>>40651341
I think that might fall under Advanced enchantments, and we're probably getting Optimal enchantments first, so....
>>
>>40651352
We're going to be fine-tuning Speed/Ward so that there's less aetheric drain on the item in question, and then enchant the under so that we don't completely cook in our armor, considering how many of our foes apparently have access to rather potent fire-based effects.

"I'll take this one." You tell him, pointing to the book titled "Optimal Enchantments".

"Very good. I'll go ahead and record your name with the book. Just be sure to return the book before you leave for Belmore. Is there anything else you need?"

"No, I'm good."

"Very well then. There should be some tables behind that shelf there, you should be able to read in peace there."

"Oh, thank you."

"Anytime."

Leaving the other book with Archie, you pick up the book on optimizing enchantments and begin walking where Archie said the tables would be. Just as you turn the corner around the bookshelf though, you see two familiar people sitting at the table together.

"You were right about the Champion you know."

The brown-haired elf groans. "What about?"

"You remember, when I asked you if he was handsome? You said he had a certain commoner charm about him, and you were right." The elf with the dirty-blonde hair says.

"I didn't say that, you did. And in any case, I'm trying to read right now, so-"

"I wonder if he's as strong as people say he is. I haven't seen him at the training yard yet, it's kind of disappointing. Still, you know what I heard? I heard that- hm?"

You hide behind the bookshelf again before the elf, Avaline you think it was, can see you. Aureus dammit, not this shit again...

"Something wrong?"

"No, just thought I saw something. Anyways, where was I? Oh, right! You know, I hear Nathan got to talk to one of the people on his honor guard, you know what he said?"

Your first instinct is to get out right now, before they notice you. However, you have to admit you are a little interested to hear what your honor guard has been saying.

'Eavesdropping is quite rude you know.' Galadriel teases you over your mental link.

'I'm just curious is all.'

'Why not go over and talk to your fan directly then?'

'I said I'm curious, not suicidal.'

'You're exaggerating, she's perfectly harmless.'

'Maybe, but if I have to listen to her drone on again, I'm gonna throw myself out the nearest window.'

'You've already done that, haven't you?'

'Shh!'

"Avaline, I told you, I'm trying to rea-"

"Nathan said one of the guys in his honor guard is actually from the Defontaine family. I think his name was Roland. Lauretta and the others have been trying to get close to him ever since they found out. I almost feel bad for the poor guy, those three are absolutely obsessive."

"This coming from the on who followed the Champion to find out which room he's staying in."

"...I was only curious, that's all."

Well, that's suitably creepy. You make a mental note to start locking your door from now on.
>>
>>40652209
"In any case, how do you know he's not interested in someone else already?"

"Do you think he is?"

"I mean, there might be someone back in Morsland waiting for him, and there are three girls in his honor guard right now. They've already fought together, it wouldn't be unlikely for him to have gotten close to one of them."

"That's-"

"Who knows. Maybe he's with one of them right now."

"That's...I..." You hear the sound of someone getting out of their chair. "I just remembered there's something I need to do. I'll catch up with you at dinner, okay Aleria?"

"Take your time." You hear the second one say lazily. You find a better hiding spot quickly, before Avaline walks past and out of the library.

"Well that worked." You hear the other elf say, followed by the sound of a page turning.

>Go to your room, read in peace. Remember to lock the door.

Well, danger's averted for now at least, so you come out of hiding and take a seat at the table in front of Avaline's friend.

"Back already? I thought you were...Oh, it's you. How long have you been here."

"A bit too long I suppose. You know, I'd appreciate if you didn't give people the wrong idea."

"Would you rather I call her back and tell her you're single and looking?"

"...You know what, I'll let it slide this time."

"Thought so. She'll be fine, I just needed some peace and quiet so I could read my book already."

"Same here." You tell her, pulling out your book on optimizing enchantments and opening up to the first page.

The book covers all sorts of basic enchantments, many you've learned already, even more you haven't. It covers the basics of enchantment in the first chapter then dedicates a chapter to each enchantment and how to improve them. >Enchantment Improved!
>Strength Enchantment - Further boosts the wielder's strength.

Shortly after you've finished learning how to improve the Strength enchantment, Archie drops by to let you know dinner will be starting soon. You pack the new book into your backpack, and make your way down to the dining hall together.

Your friends are siting at the same table as usual. However, you don't see Erika there, and there are three new people sitting next to Roland, all girls.

"Archie, Siegfried, there you are!" He calls out to you. "Sorry ladies, my friends are here now and there's only so much room at the table. We can talk later though."

The three of them begrudgingly get up and leave, and you and Archie take their place.

"Who were they?"

"Not sure. They just came over to chat out of the blue while I was on my way here."

"Must be nice." Reinhardt grumbles, grabbing a plate and silverware.

"I suppose. They were rather nice."

"Have you ever stopped to wonder why they're being nice?" You ask.

"Well, they kept asking about my family. I suppose they know my family in some way?"

"Don't bother." Archie whispers to you and Reinhardt, shaking his head. "He's always been like this. His family's really prestigious, so women have always flocked to him. I guess he started thinking that was the norm, and never stopped to wonder why."

"Dumbass." Reinhardt mutters.

"Something wrong?" Roland asks, oblivious to what Archie told you both.

"No, nothing. Say, put in a good word for me next time those three come to see you."

"Why?"

"Just do it."

Roland shrugs. "Alright."

About ten minutes in, you see Erika finally show up, looking very confused.

"There you are." Daniel greets her. "I was starting to worry, you're never late to dinner. Did something happen?"

"Sort of, I guess." She says, sitting down next to Daniel and grabbing a plate. "Ran into someone weird on the way here is all."

"Weird how?" You ask.

"This elf girl, just stopped me in the hall on the way here and asked if I was part of the honor guard. I told her I was, and she started asking me about you."

"Me?"

"Yeah. She asked me stuff like 'How do you know him' and 'why did you join the honor guard.' Finally she asked me how close we were, and when I told her we were friends she just ran off."

"...Was this person named Avaline, and did she talk really fast by chance?"

"Yeah, actually. How did you know?"

“It's a long story. Sorry you got dragged into it.”

"Sounds like Siegfried's got a fan." Joan teases with Berry's help.

"Must be nice." Reinhardt grumbles.

"Believe me Reinhardt, it really isn't."

"No, it's fine. I don't think she's dangerous, just creepy, and really annoying. Anyways, how have you guys been doing? Anything interesting happen to you?"

"Not really, just went to the practice yard with Roland and Justine." Erika answers.

"I've been in the chapel most of the time." Daniel replies.

"I've been lost in the library all day." Joan says, with help from Berry.

"I've been in the forests. There's lots of game in these forests, I actually brought some of what I caught in to the cook here." Nerillian says.

"I haven't done much really. Went down to the practice yard for a bit, not much else." Reinhardt says.

"Most of my day has been spent in meditation, though I did make a quick stop by the chapel today as well. What about you?" Ganelon asks.

"Been reading for the most part. I'm surprised I didn't bump into you Joan. Oh yeah, speaking of which, I've done some more studying on enchantments, everyone leave your weapons in my room before you go to sleep, I'll get to work on them before bed."

"I see, much appreciated Siegfried, I'll be sure to leave my mace there tonight."

"Did you do any research on House Lione while you were in the library?" Roland asks you.

"Not really, I thought I heard most of what I need to know already. Do you know anything about them? Have you ever met them before?"
>>
>>40654777
"I haven't met them personally, but I've heard a lot about them. There's Geoffrey Lione, the oldest son of the House, and there's Celia Lione, his younger sister. Geoffrey is the heir, but his sister is well respected as well. They're both very strong from what I hear."

"How strong?"

"I've heard that Geoffrey can crush boulders with his head, and his sister's just as strong."

"Come on now, that's just silly."

"It's not. There's a lot of magic in that family, they say everyone born in the House of Lione is twice as strong as the average man. I think it's because of their ancestor, Asher."

'Is that possible?' You ask Galadriel through your mental link.

'Asher was the strongest Champion I ever had, and lived the longest. As time passes, some of my power begins to spread to my Champion, and it was during his time as my Champion that he had his children. It is possible that some of my power was passed down to his ancestors as a result.'

"...I see." You say aloud, returning to your conversation with Roland. "Anything else you can tell me about them?"

Roland thinks. "Well, I know both of them have been undefeated in all the tournaments they've participated in. Beyond that, they both come from House Lione, so they have a very strong sense of honor. Just don't give them a reason to think you'd be a bad Champion, and you should be fine."
>>
>>40654789
----------
The rest of dinner passes like normal. You talk with Roland some more about House Lione, and what to expect from them. You learn more about the only two Champions that didn't get House Lione's approval as well. One was a well-respected tournament fighter with a very strong pride. After he was rejected by House Lione, he led an attack on the Forsaken Lands to try and prove them wrong, and froze up in fear in the middle of battle. The story reminds you a lot of the first vision you ever had after meeting Galadriel, where the man with the halberd froze up in fear and was eaten by a demon. The second was a man from Belmore, who was rejected because of his quick temper. After being rejected, he challenged the one who rejected him to a duel to the death, and was killed by the House Lione.

Before long, everyone starts leaving the dining hall. You have still have time before curfew, what should you do?

Well, it's going to take a long time to finish enchanting those weapons, so might as well get started on it now. You walk back up to your room, where you see Ganelon has already left his mace and Reinhardt has left his halberd. Taking one last look at the notes you took in the library, you get to work.

----------
As you work, others stop by to drop off their weapons as well, until everyone has left theirs with you. While it doesn't take you long to saturate all their weapons, the actually enchantment proves trickier, and takes time to complete. An hour passes, then two, then three. Curfew definitely started a while ago, but you keep working regardless. It's very late at night when you finish enchanting everyone's weapons, and as soon as you do, you move them to the side of your room, get changed, and quickly fall asleep.

---------
You see yourself, slaving away at everyone's weapons in your room. The only sources of light is the lit candle on your desk, and the moonlight coming in through the window. First is the mace, then the halberd. After that is the spear, the greatsword, and the other spear. Last is the bow, the trickiest one to enchant, as the enchantment has to be set to affect arrows fired by the weapon rather than the weapon itself. It took you a while to figure out, but you managed, and now you see yourself doing it yet again.

"Quite the busybody, aren't we? I can respect that. I've done a bit of enchanting in my time as well, so I understand the desire to get it done."

That voice, you remember it. It was only last night when you first heard it.

"Who are you?"

"You've already asked that question. I'm a friend. You don't need to know more than that, not yet at least."
>>
>>40655254
"How am I supposed to trust you if you won't even tell me who you are?"

The voice sighs. "If I wished you harm, I would kill you now and be done with it. You think you're safe because this is a dream? No, not at all. If I were to slit your throat right now, the real you would fall into a comma. One you won't be waking up from any time soon, if at all. Notice how I haven't done that yet? That's because I'm not here to hurt you. Because I'm a friend."

You furrow your brow and reach for Galadriel. To your surprise, she's not there.

"Why are you here then?"

"I'm just here to give you some advice, that's all. No need to get all worked up."

"What sort of advice?"

"You'll be meeting two people soon. Very soon. Someone you've met before, and someone you haven't. I'm here to tell you that you should trust them."

"For someone who says they're my friend, you're being awfully vague. Who are you talking about?"

"Believe me, I'd tell you if I could, but that may change things, and I can't risk that. All you need to know, is that you'll meet someone you wouldn't normally trust. I need you to trust them anyways, or else things will get a lot more difficult for all of us."

"And when will I meet these people?"

"Very soon. In fact, I'd say you'll be meeting them sooner than you'd think."

You start to say more, but the vision comes to a sudden end as you're awoken by someone knocking on your door. Once again, you're left with a hundred questions, but very few answers.

"I need you to trust them anyways"

The voice's words still echo in your head. Even if he says he's your friend, you don't have any reason to trust him.

Whoever's outside, they're still knocking.

You pull yourself out of bed and quickly get changed. Whoever it is out there, they're persistent. Still, you have no idea what they'd want this early in the morning, the sun has even risen yet. After you finish getting changed and grab Galadriel, you open the door.

"Ah, Siegfried, you finally woke up."

Captain Arnault? What's he doing here this early in the morning.

"Sir? Is something wrong?"

"No, nothing wrong per say. Actually, quite the opposite."

"What do you mean?"

"One of our bookeepers in the Archives has found something you might find interesting. It's a surviving copy of the Watchtower's records regarding the Great Crusade."

"With all due respect sir, what does that have to do with me?"

"What it has to do with you is that it contains detailed records on the battle between Aurelius and Malaphas. A record of the demon king's powers."

That grabs your attention. "There were records of that?"

"There were. We thought they'd been destroyed when Balaam attacked the original Red watchtower, but someone's found it and managed to repair it. Come with me, I'll show you."

'Siegfried, I'm not sure about this.' Galadriel warns you. 'Something about this doesn't seem right.'

'I think so too, but I think we should go anyways.'

'Why?'

'Remember that voice from the vision I told you about?'

'I remember. Why?'

"Well, if you're ready to go, we should head down there now. The archives are this way, follow me."

"Right, lead the way sir." You say aloud, before returning to your mental conversation. 'I had another vision tonight. I'll explain as we go, but stay on your guard.'

You follow after the captain, explaining your vision to Galadriel as you go. She seems just as skeptical as you are of the voice, but agrees that you should play along, for now at least.

The captain stop you at a door on the ground floor with multiple key holes. "Here we are. The others should be waiting for us at the bottom for us."

"Why is this door lying unlocked and unguarded?"

"The others are already inside, as I said. They left it unlocked for us while I went to fetch you."

'This is a trap.' Galadriel says. 'A very poorly thought out one at that.'

'Agreed. I almost feel insulted.'

"Whatever you say sir. You said they're at the bottom?"

"Indeed. We need to go down three flights of stairs. After you."

You shrug and do as he says. The stairs lead you very far underground, into a massive room filled with shelves, not unlikely the library above ground. Something is different though, something about most of these books seems...dangerous.

"Whatever you say Captain." You reply, heading down the stairs with him following close behind.

'He's doing his best to stand behind you. It's painfully clear he's trying to prevent your escape.'

'You don't have to tell me, I noticed that the moment we went down the first flight of stairs.'

Regardless, you say nothing and travel to the bottom of the second staircase. This time, you come to a room filled with stone cases and miscellaneous items.

"This is where we store magical items. Most of these are relics left over from the old crusades, but there are a few things here that we stored away to keep them out of people's hands, much like the tomes up above. The others should be down the next flight of stairs."

'In other words, that's where his trap is waiting.' Galadriel states. You can almost feel her rolling her eyes.

I really want to call him out, but I feel like the closer we get to him springing the trap the hamier he's going to get. When he finally does it we will be able to apply maximum snark.
>>
>>40656105
Just full deadpan "Oh no, you got me. How did I not see this coming."
>>
>>40656105
Well if we go all the way into the trap, we may end up having difficulty, perhaps too much of it, of getting out of it.

We can definitely take the "captain", but can we take the ambush she has prepared for us?
>>
>>40656119
"You know fellas, if your idea for an ambush is something you've learned from a penny-dreadful, you clearly need to think up a new plan."
>>
>>40655997
"There's stuff from the old crusades here?" You ask.

"Yes, though the records are-"

You don't even wait for him to finish, you just start walking towards the nearest thing; a mirror hanging on the wall.

"In that case, I'd like to look around a bit if that's okay sir."

"H-huh? Oh, well, I mean the others are waiting on us, we really shouldn't keep them waiting."

"Just a quick look won't hurt, will it?"

You look into the mirror. You see yourself, and the captain a ways behind you. At first it seems like a normal mirror, but then the reflection starts to change. To your left is a familiar six-winged angel, and behind you is someone else. You don't recognize him, but he's certainly not the captain. Of course, when you turn to your left Galadriel is hanging from your belt, in sword form, and the Captain is standing where the other person in the reflection was.

"Perhaps not, but it would be rude to keep them waiting. If you're interested, I'll make sure you're given a full tour once we've finished examining the records." The false captain says.

'Well, there goes any leftover doubts I had that this is a trap.' You inform Galadriel.

'Did you see something in the mirror?'

'Yeah, it turns out this isn't the real captain, it's someone else.'

'I had my suspicions. Did he appear demonic?'

'No, he was just a normal human. Must be using some sort of spell or something.'

"Siegfried?"

"Hm? Right, sorry. You're right, no sense in keeping them waiting I guess."

"Ah, good, I'm glad you understand. After you then."
>>
>>40656310
You do as the fake captain asks, heading down the final staircase with him walking behind you. At the bottom of the staircase, you find a large brass door with five keyholes. Predictably, there are no records here at all. However, there are four other people here. Most you don't know, but one of them you recognize as Aleria, Avaline's less obnoxious friend. Seeing her here is probably the only thing that's surprised you since the “Captain” knocked on your door. The others have their weapons drawn, while Aleria is just standing there, frowning.

"Well this is strange. I don't see any records around here." You say dryly.

"Right, records." The fake captain says, his appearance starting to change to that of the person you saw in the mirror. "Afraid I lied about that, sorry."

>"I'm aware. You're not as clever as you think you are."
>"Right. And I'm sorry for what I'm about to do." Draw your sword

"Oh no, you got me. How did I not see this coming." You say, voice completely dreadpan. "Tell me, which one of you 'geniuses' thought up this plan? Truly, I'm in awe of your clever plot. Really."

You ambushers, with the exception of Aleria, don't seem very amused by your sarcasm.

"The Void are you trying to say?" One of them asks.

"He's saying he saw through your disguise." Aleria explains.

"What? How?! I used the spell and everything!"

"Because your a Void damn idiot who couldn't impersonate someone to save you're life."

"You said I did a good job impersonating the captain!"

"I said a lot of things. Turns out I lied."

"Then why did you make Lucas-"

The complaining ambusher is silenced when Aleria reaches out a hand, which suddenly changes into a bear's claw, and slashes his throat open.

You're still trying to process what just happened, but this is your chance. Without thinking, you draw Galadriel, turn, and shield bash the guy behind you. It's a sloppy attack, but thankfully he's caught by surprise thanks to Aleria's sudden betrayal, and you knock him down. Quickly, you follow it up by stabbing him through the heart, killing him.

"You bitch!" One of your assailants yells, before charging Aleria with his sword drawn. Aleria responds by stepping to the side and sticking her foot out. The clumsy man trips, and Aleria changes shape into a mountain lion. She then jumps on top of him and starts mauling him while he's down.

'Another Doppelganger? What the Void is with Doppelgangers and the name Aleria?' You complain to Galadriel.

'Pay attention Siegfried, look.' Galadriel says. You turn your head and see that the last guy is aiming a bow at you. Quickly, you mutter the incantation for Blink, and teleport behind the bowman. Next, you swing Galadriel at his neck. The blade cuts halfway through, but gets caught on bone. You pull Galadriel free, and the bowman staggers, trying to walk forward, then falls to the ground, dead.

Around this time, the man Aleria was mauling stops screaming. Aleria changes her shape back to normal, and turns to face you, blood dripping from her mouth.

"Well that's done. Now it's just the three of us." She says, wiping the blood off her mouth with her sleeve.

"What is with Doppelgangers and the name Aleria?" You complain, sword still at the ready. "Seriously, you're the second one I've seen with that name."

"Correction. I'm technically the only one you've seen with that name?"

"Huh?"

"Don't recognize me? How about now?"

Aleria's form begins to change once again. Her hair turns blonde, her eyes become blue, and...oh fuck.

"You?" You shout, caught completely off guard.

"Yep, me." She says smugly. "Didn't think you'd see me again did you? After you cut my head off despite me complying when you had me tied up."

The voice from your dream's advice comes to mind once more. Someone you know, and someone you don't. Here's one you know, so where's the other?

"How the Void are you still alive? Wait, three? there's more of you?"

"There is, actually. Which is why I we're here right now."

'Hello Siegfried. I've heard much about you from dear Aleria here.'

You jump in surprise. That was a voice inside your head, but it wasn't Galadriel.

'Who was that? Show yourself!' Galadriel demands through your mental link.

'Aleria, would you kindly open this door? You found the keys, did you not?'

"I did. Give me one moment." She says, pulling out five keys and approaching the brass door. You think to stop her, but when you attempt to move you find you're feet are frozen in place.

"What's going on? Who are you?"

Aleria inserts the keys and turns them. The brass door opens with a loud metallic creak and reveals another stone container within.

'Pleased to make your acquaintance, Siegfried. I am called the Leviathan. Now that you're here, we have much to discuss.'

General plotline:

Avaline spikes Siegfrieds drink with an extremely stronk aphrodisiac that is normally used on horses.

Then she waits in front of his room for it to start working while he meditates.

He's on Galardriels plane when it starts working and it affects both him and Galardriel....
>>
Ok apart from the horny posters.
Wat do next thread?

Should we offer Levi to seal her inside another weapon like Galardriel to help us murder the hell out of the other demon lords?
>>
>>40657876
I'd only be cool with a harem in this if it was accidental and not really played seriously.

>>40658113
Now this I can get behind.
>>
>>40658148
Like in Siegfried gets forced into marriages or something on those lines?

Like saving Erika from her family by pretending to be her husband to prevent them from trying political marriage schemes and so on.
>>
>>40658113
That's actually a really neat idea. Levi would be able adventure alongside her sister then. Fun for the whole family!

Of course, we would have to find a way of keeping her from meddling with our soul the same way galadriel can.
>>
>>40658182
Eh, something like that I guess.
As long as it doesn't become the focus of the quest, I'm cool with it.
>>
>>40658222
Sparks could do that in the side quests so we get a different POV along with the nice ship-bait.

I'm definitely voting Yandere-Elf for the next side-quest.
>>
>>40658245
Yeah okay, she's probably got some kind of weird thing going on that caused the yanderism.
>>
>>40658245
Dude, NEVER go for the yandere. It isn't guaranteed to end in tears, but it'll be way more trouble than it's worth.
