Jeana's been asleep for a bit, you've been taking turns driving and sleeping. You have a sort of list going, one of the things that you wanted to look for was the hard drive with Dad's psych evals on it. It holds the key to helping you understand your powers, or at least you hope.

After that, you have to drive another hour or two, probably get breakfast on the way, and go to Grandpa's mansion. He's independently wealthy and, since Dad... He helps Mom with money. So this year he figured that you could come and do Christmas at his place.

You found that organizing your thoughts into lists tends to help with the whole insanity thing, schedules are how you kept yourself going for the last few months. Wake up, get breakfast, if it's a school day go to class, if not go to the lab. It's soothing, if a little bland.

Before you know it, you arrive at Dad's storage unit, where this whole thing began. Jeana's still sleeping, so you don't need to show her, but should you? The reason you keep this from them is Superh- no, stay focused, this keeps them safe from people like Menace and Boombox. Maybe, she can probably keep a secret, but maybe later. She IS just your girlfriend now, that might change and then... stop, not now. Maybe this should be a train of thought for later. Wait, no, you need to decide now if you should show her the portable.

No, not right now at least, maybe when you get back to Cosmopolis you'll show her your startup. You leave the car running since she's probably used to the noise by now. Opening the doors to the large unit by the docks, you are greeted by memories of the first time you saw this place. The spot for the suit, the box where you found your electronic tools.

That stream of information that... awakened you? Wow, this Super stuff is sort of surreal.

You touch that computer again, just to be sure, and nothing happens. Good, that first time hurt like a bitch, it felt like somebody poured molten steel in your skull. Can't complain about results though.

You start rummaging through the, admittedly limited, clutter. You find what you're looking for behind a monitor, a hard drive with a Red Rider sticker on it. Dad must have been kind of egotistical to do that and the monogrammed pajamas, especially if nobody should ever see them. The room looks like it was tossed now that you really look at it, but there's a thick layer of dust, still there from the first visit. Maybe Menace searched here, it would explain why the hard drive is the only important thing there.

You start looking around, and right away, now that you're looking, you can tell that somebody sacked the place. It wasn't very recent though, probably right before you showed up the first time. If it was Menace or just some random thieves, you can't tell. But the fact that the computers weren't stolen points to the former.

There doesn't seem to be anything here, a few spare parts for an engine, some oil, a wrench. The computers are even wiped clean, probably something your dad did.

"Tom? What are we doing here?" FUCK! You jump in shock and drop the wrench you were holding.

Jeana looks dead tired and confused, you didn't tell her about this detour because it wasn't important. Shit, think, maybe you can fix this?

She looks at you with a growing expression of skepticism, you have to think fast.

What do you say though?

"I wanted to check out my dad's storage unit while I was in town, make sure nobody broke in or anything." You think that worked, she seems less confused now.

"Well, take as much time as you need, I'll wait in the car. Wake me up when we go get breakfast." She yawns and walks out to the car. Nice save, that could have been bad. Now you have as much time as you want to look at that hard drive. You plug it into one of the computers after checking that it really was clean, and open it up.

The files inside date back to 1975, and there is a folder for each year. Luckily, there is a single text file in the directory labelled "Psychological Health Summary". Before you check out any other folders, you think that would be a good place to start.

"Subject displays narcissistic tendencies, yet expresses them in an altruistic format to garner attention. In addition to his psychological status, his neurological status is also bizarre. It seems that the subject's brain is perfectly wired to recognize and memorize patterns, as well as resonate with certain electromagnetic frequencies. This shift in mental status seems to lead to no psychological defects that were not present before the change..." It goes on to explain it more in detail, but it all explains that Dad was mentally stable, if a little egotistical. That doesn't sound anything like you, and you recognize not only patterns, but the concepts behind them. So you do have different powers... Wait. The name at the bottom of the file is Professor Brend. That must be how he knows Dad!

You're curious about those schematics that Dad had on his computers, it has become readily apparent that he didn't make them, so who did? Maybe Mr.Salvos has some ideas about it, he has been investigating Menace for a while now, so he should have some clue.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"Hey, this is Tom, I had some questions ab-"

"Hello? I can't hear you."

"Goddammit Mr. Salvos."

"Haha, got ya, this is John Salvos, I'll get back to you later if you leave a message."

You leave a message about wanting to talk to him later, then you decide that you have time to at least skim the beginning files. It might give some insight as to how Dad was different, if he was a Legacy, how he got his powers. It doesn't disappoint, it turns out that these are a sort of journal he made. It seems he started developing his powers after a traumatic brain injury when he was 15, the doctors thought he was going to be in a coma for the rest of his life, but he wasn't. It turns out that the brain injury awakened his powers and made him into a Super. Most of the entries deal with him coping with High School, he seemed like kind of a nerd. You read up until 1984, because that's where the folders start containing files numbering in the thousands. Why are there so many, and they're all different too! This might be a thing for a later date.

Enough for now, you put away the hard drive and turn off the lights in the storage unit. It really is peaceful right before dawn. It feels like everything is dozing before the busy day ahead. The snow falls in thick white clumps of flakes, as if the clouds were dissolving in the tinted twilight of the day. It seems like this break is going to be a good one, you have a girlfriend, Mom will be happy because of that, and you haven't seen Grandpa since your 13th birthday.

"Give me your money!" You hear from just outside, you peek through to confirm your suspicions, there is a man in black clothing with a stocking over his head, no shit, a Christmas stocking over his head, pointing a pistol at Jeana.

You open your pack and take out a huge bag of Nanomachines, you guess they need a field test. LUCKILY THIS SON OF A BITCH IS RIGHT HERE! You will the nanites to action, they rocket upwards into his wrist, knocking the gun away before he can react. Then they wrap around his limbs and pull him to the pavement in a surprised, screaming mess.

You pick up the wrench from earlier, it seems heavy enough, and start walking over to the- wait a minute. Deep breaths, happy thoughts, calm down. The police show up and you tell them what happened, everything. They understand that it was self-defense, and the guy had several warrants for his arrest, so you can expect that there won't be charges. The paramedics showed up, apparently you broke both of his arms and one may need to be amputated. Then you decided to just go to Grandpa's, neither of you feel hungry anymore, and Jeana drives while you think for a bit and calm down. That wasn't like you at all, maybe this isn't as easy as you thought, maybe Dad was right in seeing Professor Brend. It would probably help to get somebody to talk to and vent to.

"So... what was that weird sand stuff?" You explain your startup to her, excluding involvement with Supers and such. She seems rather impressed, it feels good to know that she isn't afraid of you after that... maybe you're overworked?

"Hello, I'm Jeana Graham."

"Well nice to meet you. I'm Michael Vilmuth, but just call me Mike." Grandpa seems like he's happy.

"Come on in. Janice is waiting inside"

He leads you and Jeana through the courtyard to his mansion. You don't remember where he got his money, but Mom says he got it after WW2. He opens up an ornate wooden door into the foyer, and Mom is standing next to a painting of a beautiful countryside. She runs over and hugs you.

"I'm so happy to see you! I missed you." She lets go and turns to Jeana, "And you must be Jeana! Tom told me about you, so happy you could make it. We'll have a few more guests over the break,"

"Hey Jeana, you can talk with Mom, I'll unpack our stuff." Seems like a good half-truth.

"I'll show him around." Grandpa seems to get the hint.

You both walk up the stairs, Grandpa walking rather well for someone going on 103. You arrive at the guest room and inside is a massive dark green bed with curtains around it and silk curtains on the windows and this room looks like it is worth your entire bank account.

"Yadda yadda blah blah, you know how to use a room. I wanted to talk to you about what's been going on with your whole super genius thing. Quite simply, I have some history lessons for you." Wait, he knows about this stuff, did he know about Dad? It feels like you were the only one who wasn't in on it.

"By now, you probably have figured out that you're a Legacy and what that means. You know what happens when two Legacies mix, and that sometimes new powers occur even when they don't mix." Yeah, restating what you know, got it.

"But that's wrong, I researched this in the 40's and it isn't a random thing, it all has to do with the control gene for powers being recessive. Any High School student can tell you what that means, and incomplete dominance and whatever they call it these days. The problem is that nobody will listen to me and nobody else approaches this like science." Wait, this whole shtick seems kind of familiar...

"So, extend what you know about genetics to what you know about me, and how you and your father are different. Who am I?" He smiles like the goddamn Cheshire Cat or something.

"Well, I'm going to guess that, first of all, you were the one who designed those schematics I found."

He nods.

"I would also like to guess that you were the one who created Swordsman."

"Right again Tom."

"You're Dr. Genesis. That's how you know that stuff and how you got so rich."

"Bingo, I knew that you would get the answer right." He seems very happy that you got it right, and wait a minute.

"Are you Menace?" It might have been simple misdirection that led to Menace being at large.

"Sorry, that isn't right, I hated your dad for stealing my daughter from me and so forth, but she loved him so I would never kill him. Why do you think I barely ever visited, he told me to stay away." Well, at least that bit is reassuring.

"I'm done with the whole "villain" thing, never was one in the first place, but James asked me to help him fight Menace, so I designed those devices for him, all in the name of fun."

"What do you mean "never was a villain"?"

"It's funny, genetics is long considered a useful and normal study, then all of a sudden, some German asshole named Mengele started getting the same results with horrible methods, and then the top mind in the government's employ is a monster. Of course the second that I get somewhere with the theory people start saying I must be doing inhumane things. I almost created a Super from scratch, but then I got fired and that went down the drain. I was then hunted for years and got tired of it, hence the whole "Villain" thing."

"Why did you sell Mr. Salvos?"

"For the money of course, and before you get pissy about it, keep in mind that I saved his life. His dad was just going to let one of the first artificial Supers sit at home and rot. So I sold him to the government under a pseudonym, and that's how I can live this way. James got upset about it after meeting him and attacked me, and that's how he met Janice."

"Do you have... problems too?"

"Yep, and before you ask, the only antidote is a lobotomy. Just remember that you have to be in control of it, keep calm, resolve anything bothering you as soon as it comes up. I almost snapped when Grandma died, but I just powered through."

"Does Mom know?"

"No, and keep it that way, she doesn't need or want to know."

"Do I have to worry about paying you for the inventions? Also I almost blew up Cosmopolis."

"Eh, I almost made a human nuke once, it was stupid. And shouldn't you be the one concerned about getting money, I'm 103 years old for Chrissakes."

"You know, I might be closer to immortality than you think."

His eyes widen, "Thomas, do not go down that path, the societal change necessary to make that feasible without overpopulation is enormous. Let nature do what it does, or at least let the natural lifespan increase normally."

That is true, you didn't consider overpopulation as an issue. It would be a less pressing issue if you knew how to break light speed but... focus.

"Who are the guests really?"

"They may or may not be old acquaintances or rivals. But that isn't my secret to tell." He smirks again.

"We should do some science sometime, I have some ideas and pointers would be nice since I'm not exactly "excellent" at Biology."

You swear he never stops smiling. "I might have a few ideas."

More complex than you think Anon, there are requisite technologies you lack to do so. As always, later down the tree.
>>
>You have two Tech Points, they regenerate slowly over time, you get two per thread

Un-Researched:

>Nano-Limb: Makes a limb of attached Micro-Actuators, requires some way to interface with the nervous system

>Stun Beams: Using metered Cairnsium energy releases, produces a "Taser Laser"

New Developments:

>CLOAK bots: A build of Micro-Actuators able to shift color, near invisible when employed, weaker than normal.

>Piercing Beam: Uses Plasma to cut through materials in a thin beam, useful against armored Supers.

>Increased Capacity: Increases the slots in one part of your armor by one.

>Hyper-Hydraulics: Use compounded Micro-Actuators to increase armor lifting capabilities to 2 tons.

>Beam gauntlets: A module that takes up no slots on the arm, yet allows use of all known beam weapons.

>Bio-Meld: A fluid that, when applied during the process, allows for safe integration of Micro-Actuators.

>NerveJack: A thin cable that functions as a nerve and can be used as such.

>SPINR bots:A build of Micro-Actuators that produce a synthetic skin compound to instantly mend damage to skin. Weaker than normal.

Tech points can only be spent on unresearched tech (New Developments count)
>>
>>40665809

advanced detector for the suit:
-SONAR
-radiation detectors
-light detector
-basically detector for all electromagnetic wavelengths

also separately
Improved HUD with:
-X-Ray vision
-thermic vision
-extra sensible sound detector

and finally
improved networking :
-satellite connection with the armor
-4G connection
-improved in use data collection for the armor (looking up the villains abilities on the web while in combat)

those are some pretty basic upgrades i assume for our crazy intellect, we just have to down scale those thing and we won't even invent anything really, just make more stuff compatible with our suit.
might be a bit Overpowered but dividing the different sensors, HUDs and networking option can be done to balance those ideas if you think it's really too OP

to make this >>40666548 a reality.

Also we could let R.O.N experience with CLOAK nanobots and give him the appearance of a butler by using them giving but not regular micro-actuators, remember he's an AI don't trust him too much guys.

good to know.

We should also work on security software for R.O.N and our research, and work mostly in a closed shell environment , rip every network connection we have from the Internet apart from one entry point that's located next to R.O.N server for him to search data , and secure the shit out of it, we don't want any government stealing our research.

I propose dynamic networking protection:
- a Sub-program of R.O.N making him able to adapt against cracking attempts with a function to shut down the network connection to the Internet in case of failure to protect R.O.N by jettisoning the Ethernet cable
>>
>>40666892
Another idea also:

we need to go deeper:
we stuffed ourselves inside an armor suit, now let's stuff that suit into a mech, making us able to carry more strength in outdoor environement , while still being able to get out of the mech protected by the armor suit.

TL;DR let's stuff our armor suit in a bigger armor suit

pros:
-bigger is better
-more space for upgrade maybe?
-safer for ourselves
-possibilities to make it branch in two seaters mechs

cons:
-expensive
-heavier isn't always better
-will need more power
