You cough weakly as the faceless soldiers storm in through the doorway, swords drawn. Hiss rises, her arms held out protectively. She shouts something in Quedeshi and starts jabbering away at them in a manner wholly incomprehensible to you.

Not that this matters to you much since you are currently busy dying slowly. You can feel the venom spreading throughout your body, numbing and killing you bit by bit. You have some resistance, hell, you’re probably the most resistant person in the world to this venom right now but there remains a clear and present danger that has nothing to do with the men with swords.
If you had antivenom this would be easy but you don’t have any! You could brew some more but your bag is sitting over by the wall, you’d have to move and expose yourself to get there.

>>
> Crawl off the bed towards the bag, as stealthily as you can.

You haul yourself across the bed and try to slowly lower yourself to the ground as Hiss confronts the men behind you. You feel absolutely awful right now but that isn't a disincentive, it's only going to get worse.
Where's Aashenpreet? Shouldn't she be showing up because of the bond?

You do your best to slither your way across the room on your belly, an act that would be entirely without dignity if only you had some left to lose right now.

In retrospect, it's not such a hard task. They're more than occupied with Hiss right now and you have almost free reign because of it. You slide behind the bed, grabbing the pack to yourself with trembling hands.

You somehow manage to not drop your cauldron and make a clatter, spilling what little ingredients you had left into it along with what remains of your waterskin. It'll be a messy cold mix but you've done this before.
You do your best to keep your eyes open as you mix up something that could at least be called an antivenom and you waste no time in drinking it immediately. It's only half mixed, you can still feel the texture of the moss-clumps and strands of grass sliding down your throat. But it does its job to an adequate degree, banishing sickness and returning feeling across your body.
You still feel like death but at least now you're warmed over.

You can hear Hiss's protestations so she seems to be fine. It's too quick for you to make it out with your weak grasp of the language however.
You're not sure what's really going on. Didn't she speak to their master like they wanted?

> Just lie down here, you don't know what's going on.

> Screw that, she might need your help! Get up and show yourself.

You grab some potions and get to your feet slowly, doing your best to look defiant. You're not sure whether they even noticed you were there or not but they don't back down.

One of them points at you and says something quickly while Hiss turns to look at you sideways.
"Cennen, they want you. They won't say why but they want you. And only you."

"Me? What did I do? I didn't do anything!"
Oh no, they didn't find out did they? Why would Aashenpreet tell anyone, she has as much to lose as you!

Hiss looks at you in a way that tells you all you need to know about her opinion on the matter of you 'not doing anything'.
"Well I'm not inclined to let them drag you off. I either go with you or you don't go with them at all."

> "It's alright Hiss, I'll be back soon."

"No, it's okay Hiss. I'll help them with whatever they want to know and I'll be back soon."

Hiss scowls.
"Since when is this YOUR choice?"
But she lets you walk past her all the same.
"Don't blame me if you end up spitted on someone's sword!"

"Don't worry, I won't."
The Ishmin close ranks up around you, surrounding you. They begin to march as one almost immediately, bearing you away between them.
What do they want with you? What are they even going to do?

As they march you down the corridors, you can't help but worry. And then in front of you, just before the archway to the courtyard outside, they draw to a stop. It's easy to see why.
The way is blocked off by more Ishmin, these one in more familiar colours. Like their counterparts their curved swords are drawn. There's at least ten of them, a blockade designed to stop anything from leaving. Are they here to help you?
The red-flecked Ishmin around tense together as if all one creature. Is there going to be a fight?

Tash gently pushes two of them aside and steps forward.
"You seem to be in some trouble Cennen," he says in Avling. "No doubt you and your princess need some help."

"Uh," you clear your throat, almost unwilling to speak in the midst of a growing standoff. "Hiss isn't here. She's back in her quarters."

Tash stops for a second and then shrugs.
"In that case, by all means continue."
He says something in Quedeshi and the tension seems to dissolve into nothing, his Ishmin stepping aside to allow them and you through.
There'll be no rescue from this angle apparently.

>Stay silent and keep walking

You nearly raise the issue but you settle for just glaring at Tash as you walk by. What is he trying to pull? He doesn't give you the satisfaction of even at least smirking at you as you pass.
Of course he's wearing a mask so that'd be hard.
Should you pray to Hiss so that she knows about this? But in this land who knows who would be listening in? Attaraan would be at least.
In the end you have to bite your tongue in both the actual and the spiritual sense as you are marched into the walled courtyard.

The courtyard is empty, no doubt cleared out ahead of time. Or at least that's what the Ishmin seem to think as they push you onward. You can't explain why you see it and they don't. Is it just more experience in the matter? You doubt it. Or was it because at least some part of you was expecting it?
There is a faint discoloration among the palms ahead of you, the signs of something camouflaged by Art. You were wondering when she was going to show up.
But now the question is, will Aashenpreet actually make things worse?

>Attempt to tell her to stay hidden until there's real danger.

You turn your head to the side a little and stare right at her for but a moment before looking away. Does that send the message? You're not really sure.
Ah fuck it, these guys don't speak your language at all. What are you trying to be secretive about?

"Oi, don't do anything just yet," you say amiably, doing your best to sound like you're trying to speak to the Ishmin.
"Just stay hidden unless we're really in danger alright?"
One of the Ishmin give you a small shove from behind and you shut up. None of them can understand you but you know Aashenpreet can.
So you just keep mum and watch as they walk you past the discoloration. You try not to hold your breath to see if she takes your words to heart but it seems like she does because she doesn't try anything.

Instead you are walked out to the caravan and stopped right in front of the doors of the huge temple-wagon. The Ishmin behind you kicks you in the back of the knees, making you kneel unwillingly with a stab of sudden pain.
The doors creak open, each one pulled a white-clothed servant and a man steps out. A really, really tall man. You don't need anything else to know what he is.
The constrictor looks at you impassively, a fixed expression of nothing worn on his face. He motions for the Ishmin to back away, allow you some breathing room as he approaches. Is he trying to catch you in his gaze? That won't work.
But the fact that your soul is bane-frozen and inviolate is something that one could term 'sensitive information'. Do you really want this getting out?

> Try to speak to him with what Quedeshi you DO know.

You need a way to disguise this and pronto! Come to think of it, you're not entirely helpless when it comes to Quedeshi, Tash taught you a little back on the boat. You're not going to be winning any poetry competitions but you can at least try.
"It won't work. I'm not afraid of you."
That's what you TRY to say. You have no idea how well it actually came out.
And it's true, you're not that scared of him. Or of anyone really. Hiss is way scarier when she's angry and she's angry a lot of the time.

And at least some of this must have gotten through to him because he steps back and mutters something you can't understand. Whatever his words are, they aren't meant for you as the Ishmin suddenly pull you to your feet and drag you to another part of the caravan.

It's a small carriage set apart from the rest of it, one with long wooden bars set across the front of the doors. Useless at stopping people from getting inside but excellent for keeping things locked up within.
The huge masked man you saw yesterday is standing there, nodding as he sees you. He motions at your pack and one of the Ishmin rip it out of your hands.
The masked man (What his name? Laldeep? Tash said it once) pulls out a length of rope from somewhere in his robe and beckons you forward.
From the other side, another small group of Ishmin approach carrying a large wooden stake, one taller than a man, between them.

You're not sure where this is going but you don't like it one bit.

> Try to grab your pack back!

> See if you can get out of the Ishmin before Laldeep ties you up.

> Try to grab your pack back!

You reach out for your pack but the Ishmin are faster and one of them raps you on the back of the head with a mailed hand. He doesn't hit hard but it's enough to send you staggering, your vision blurring.
No no no!

You blink and take your gloves off, doing your best to show them the mark on your palm.
"Stay back!"
And behold, the Ishmin actually do hesitate for but a moment and you grab the pack off of them. They're not awed by your status you realize as they step back. They're ...afraid?
Of course! They don't know that your brand just oozes venom, to them it could mean anything! All kinds of dread Snake Arts could be hidden within this hand! You feint at them with your branded hand a few more times as you back away with your pack...
Only to be stopped cold by Laldeep grabbing you from behind! You threaten him with your branded hand but he doesn't react, grabbing the pack from you and throwing you to the ground!

That's another nasty hit but you do your best to stay up, coughing in the dust as Laldeep stands over you. With one gloved hand he reaches down into his robe and then sweeps part of it aside, buttons popping and ribbons undoing to reveal his chest and more importantly, the spiralled brand burned right over his heart.
He says something to you in Quedeshi but you don't understand. Is he an idiot? Does he think boasting in another language means anything to you?
He opens your pack and starts pawing through it. You can hear bottles clink as he pushes them around with little regard for them or the valuable recipes within.

The growl begins deep in the back of your throat, so far back that you don't realize it's yours at first.
Not even Hiss would stuff her hand in your pack like that.
You jump up and grab it back off of him, the two of you briefly caught in a tug of war.

You aren't able to tear the pack from his grasp but one of your hands reaches in for a bottle, at first searching blindly and then with more malicious intent.
You've managed to keep your footing very well and you seem to have surprised him so you get just an extra split second before he rips the pack away from you once more.
But that split second is exactly what you needed and when he pulls your hand out, it comes away holding a potion.

I would vote for this if I was confident that it will make contact with their skin somehow. I think they're pretty well covered by armor
>>
>>40670731
Head to toe.

Anyway, you'll have some time to answer this one I think as I've just learned that I need to be afk for a bit. I'm not ending the thread and I won't be gone for longer than an hour but RL calls.
>>
>>40670678
They're too well armored for that. It has to touch their skin
>>
>>40670871
Can't we just go for the eyes with a liberal spray? Uncork one end and splash it onto them?
>>
>>40670888
I think it's unlikely to work.
>>
>>40670789
This
>>
>>40670888
Their faces are covered as well
>>
>>40670789
I was just going to suggest this. Supporting. What a rotten way to go though. I'd just rather not use our snakebreaker flask.
>>
>>40670941
Bugger.

>>40670636
Alright, I'll swap >>40670809
to >>40670794
And running. Let's just go.
>>
>>40670941
Forgot about that. That means we'll just be wasting potions. I guess I'll swap my vote from >>40670709 to >>40670794 too. I don't want to kill anyone. Just knock them away.
>>
>>40671003
I don't think this is a good situation to suddenly become a pacifist.
>>
>>40671003
They've effectively declared war on hiss by trying to hold us hostage, killing a few of their human guards isn't gonna change much

I don't know if captcha has gotten harder lately or if I'm slowly becoming robotic
>>
>>40671030
We kill someone we get a death order
on us that is likely permanent.

>>40670794
>>40670636
this
>>
>>40671083
Dude stop blatantly samefagging please
>>
>>40671106
Fuck of asshole I didn't samefagg at all.
>>
>>40670789
I'd like to see this happen at least once, supporting.

Rolled 2 (1d6)

Alright, I'm back. Somehow it's not surprising that you guys have gotten yourselves into another tie while I was gone. Odds are for using the Collapsible Brew, Evens for just throwing Laldeep at them.
>>
>>40671554
I get the feeling that we're about to find out what laldeeps snake art is firsthand
>>
>>40671601
Memory serve's it is scales.
>>
>>40671619
I'm just glad that he doesn't seem to have constrictor strength
>>
> Throw Laldeep at them.

You reach down to grab Laldeep by the nape, grabbing a handful of his embroidered robes. The Ishmin twitch forward as one, their blades nearly touching you before you get your hand around Laldeep's neck and they all suddenly come to a stop just inches away from you!
You breathe out and slowly heft Laldeep up, staring at them until they slowly pull their swords back.
"Yeah that's right. You can't do anything to this guy can you? So uh, just keep back!"
You know they can't understand you but it feels good to speak anyway.
"Just back up some m-Woah!"

Your hand flicks forward suddenly and their renewed advance is stopped by you bodily hurling their master at them.
Laldeep is a big guy and you manage to hit all of them, knocking them down as they drop their swords lest they stab him.

And then you're not looking at them anymore because you are turning tail and running through the caravan before the rest of them can figure out what's wrong.
You're barely even looking where you're going as run full-pelt, teasing every last inch of empowered strength from your legs.

But where are you going?

> Running back to the compound of course!

> Running down the street a little and then into an alleyway, see if I can get around and enter the back of the compound through a window.

> Run down the street into Lombai proper, you want to lose them in the city before you can double back.

> Run for the temple-wagon and the man within.

In his case, sort of but not quite. If it was proper full scales his Ishmin wouldn't have dropped their swords to avoid hurting him.
But it's something along those lines.

When you think you have a moment you skid around the side of a wagon backed against the compound's wall and crouch beneath it. You drag your alteration brew out of the pack and down it in one long swig.
It only takes seconds for your skin to change coloration to a deep brown and you let your features mould themselves into a more typical Quedeshi look. Now you just need to change your clothes and...
Ah! That's right, what was that thing Hiss had bought you? You don't want to call it a skirt, hell, she'd called it a what? A vetti? Either way, this should help you fit in a bit more if you're wearing it.
You're struggling to take your pants off while wedged between a wagon and a wall when you hear a voice.
"What are you doing?"

You freeze, looking absolutely ridiculous. You can't see her but it's Aashenpreet. It has to be her, you can hear it in her voice.
A few seconds later and you spot the telltale smudge of her camouflage. She's almost right next to you and you didn't even notice, fuck.

"You've caused me a lot of trouble," you grumble.

> Ask her about Attaraan.

> No, you can't afford to waste anymore time in here. Leave with your disguise and see if you can get into the compound.

Let's catch another constrictor
>>
We really need to either learn more Quedeshi or create some kind of translation brew
>>
I'm going to have to archive it and end it here guys. Sorry for a fairly lackluster thread. Next thread tomorrow probably, check the twitter etc.
>>
>>40672457
We'll Never forgive you for this slight! Guards! Get the cross! We're burning this heathen tonight!

But seriously its completely cool man
>>
>>40672457
see you tomorrow then
