Quest Start

You are Mikage Chiba, second year highschool student age 15. Formerly you were the third woman to carry the mantle of the Champion of Love & Justice after your mother and your older sister. Now that title and name belongs to your little sister, Koyomi.

Presently, you are mildly upset. Upset enough to not interfere with one of your splintered and disassociated personas meant to deal with your anger and rage. You sit back in the corner of your own mind, upset that someone you had gone to for help would ask you about that. That they wouldn’t trust you.

...okay maybe you haven’t been the most honest or forthcoming in the past, and she is accurate to suspect that you are the mysterious hero saving the young Senshi who goes by the name Eclipse, but it's the principle of the thing. Either way, you let your rage vent through the actions and words of the woman politely known as the Red Eyed Beast.

Pilfered pachinko balls, obtained through gutless intimidation, fall by the wayside and create a dangerous field where someone would likely trip. The man who was bullying folks out of their winnings, though repeat statements about his ties to certain local “Family Businesses”, is known to you. A low level Yakuza thug and enforcer whose behavior was curbed from Juuban. It looks like you need to do so again in your new territory.

“The hell, What the hell. This isn’t Juuban,” he scrambles on the sidewalk back against the front wall of a building covered with neon lights and advertisements, “I don’t do business there anymore, I just pass through!”

~Yeah,~ you squat down and drape your arms over your knees, ~Funny that, my turf just got opened up a bit,~
>>
>>40682768
“Hey, you want to keep playing these punk kid games, you’re going to piss off someone who w-won’t be afraid of your tough girl monster act,” he stammers.

Calmly, you reach down and hoist him above your height by the collar of his shirt. Fading from sight, you return with your face contorted in rage and fangs openly bared.

~DOES THIS LOOK LIKE AN ACT?~ you snarl.

Tonight, since leaving the company of Aiha Mizuno, you’ve been on a Rampage. Its late on a Saturday, so there has been plenty to do and plenty of young people still awake and about to witness your movements. At least, witness the movements you wanted to be seen.

Inside, you’re hurting by how little the people you hoped would trust you seem to. Hurting because of everything you’re doing to try to help keep them from this pain. Keep them from becoming like you.

“That’s enough!” shines a voice above and behind in shining light.

Dropping the slimeball in a cheap suit, you turn to regard who has followed you. White leotard with yellow skirt, red bow, and both colors in trim. Long black hair that takes a slow gradient to red. Skin kissed and warmed by the full burning intensity of the sun inside of her.

Your friend, Keiko Sugimoto. Not long ago, you saved her from being consumed and corrupted by the memories of her past life, and further prevented her from being possessed by the now entirely wiped clean Metallia entity. For her trouble and suffering, you discovered a sliver of the heart of the Sun was left in her soul by the vile creature that had hidden within her since birth.

To try and make up for the evil done in her previous incarnations, she had that sliver refined and focused, becoming the first new Sailor Senshi in countless ages, Sailor Sol.

And now she’s telling you when you’ve had enough fun?

Turning away from her, you stamp the heel of your foot onto the pant leg of the crawling figure. The jolt causes him to lose stability on his hands, slipping on the spilt pachinko balls.

~What the hell do you want, bright eyes,~ you grunt and grasp the back of the man’s jacket and haul him back up, ~I’m working here,~

Pulling your fist back, you prepare to concuss the low level thug. There is a rush of warm air as a gentle hand is laid on your shoulder.

“I’d like to think I’m here to talk,” she says from just behind you carefully, “I haven’t seen YOU since the tower. Is everything alright?”

Her inflection is specific. She means this part of you, the Beast, not the whole of Mikage. What is she evening doing out here? She’d like to think she’s here to talk?

Wait!

Sailor Sol, all bright and shiny in the middle of the night, talking with The Red Eyed Beast. Casually you glance down at the phone in your other hand. People are talking up a storm about you, trending locally according to GPS post tags.

This gives you an idea. Cementing public enmity between this version of yourself and the Sailor Senshi.

Now, how to play this out. You smile.

“I asked you if everything is alright?” her grip tenses, “Are you done blowing off steam?”

-Keiko,- your telepathic voice curls into a smile matching the one on your pale lips, -What are you doing here?-

You lift your foot and let the vermin escape your wrath. Stumbling and slipping on the steel pachinko balls sliding across the walkway. Eyes from in the parlor and around the street watch you, the shining beauty and the wretched horror.

-Oh, Aiha called me, something about helping you work out your bloodlust,- she sighs, -The girl is in a strange panic and didn’t make much sense,-

-Huh, really now,- you place a steady hand on her wrist and turn to face her, -Say, this is actually really good that you’re here now and in this awesome setup to boot!-

-Setup?- her expression shifts to confusion.

-The enemy approached the beast tonight,- you smile wider and show your fangs as your eyes widen in glee, -Trying to convince her that the Senshi were dangerous. Its the perfect chance to make them let me into their ranks and get all the intel we need, or at least Mikage thinks so,-

-Okay,- she pauses and takes a step back and crosses her arms, -And what does that have to do with a good setup?-

-We fight, and make it look damn good,- you start laughing.

-Mikage, I don’t know about this,- she looks down her nose with a worried look.

-I’m the Beast,- your break from your laughter and snarl.

Wasting no time, you snarl and lunge forward at Keiko. She seems immediately surprised and steps back, her high heels off balance as your hurl the whole of your body off the ground and spread your arms wide.

At your impact, she lifts up and falls back, skidding against the ground as you plant your knees on either side of her waist. Prey prone on the ground beneath you, you cackle and raise your hands for a follow up strike. She knows your plan, and if she’s going to act on it, now is the time!

Her fear and worry shift in an instant to resolve. Again crossing her chest, a point of light shines on her tiara as her fingers twist.

“SOLAR PLASMA ARC!” she exclaims as the hair on the back of your neck and the whipping wild hair on your head stand on end.

With a snap, a thundering bolt of lighting rises off of the girl beneath you and arcs into the sky around you. Even as you try to twist out of the way, you feel as though you’ve been hit in the chest with a truck. It lifts you off the ground and pushes you a bit back. Keiko rises to her feet, breathing heavily. Luckily, you avoided taking the brunt of that blast.

She’s smiling.

-How’s that?-

>13 Vitality damage taken

-A good start,- your own manic grin goes flat and sly.

“Wild dog,” she exclaims loudly and projects so everyone nearby can hear, “I thought you could be an ally, but clearly you’re too dangerous to be loose upon this city. The penitent sun will cut through your darkness!”

~Wow,~ you observe with a chuckle, ~That’s a special kind of ham,~

>2 mp spent on Claws of Darkness

You’ll be ready for whatever she sends your way next, you’ve never known the most popular girl in school to be too physical, and that she started things off with heavy magic could suggest that is where her general powers are focused after awakening to Beryl’s powers.

~You’re the threat, sunshine,~ you spit, ~Don’t interfere with me managing my new turf!~

“Really?” she brings a finger to her lip and scans the street, “You’re managing this now? I suppose you’ll clean it all up like you’ve done Juuban?”

She hums to herself and shrugs.

“Well, I can’t argue that so barbarous an act as out thugging the thugs can be effective,” her first set of words glance off of you and her second volley strikes true, “however I must argue that it lacks entirely in grace and intelligence,”

>7 points of Emotional Wall damage taken, Social combat being used in combat...what, its a thing that can be done.

You crouch back and watch her smile as you fade from sight, once you were entirely faded you lunge to the side and break into a run wide around Sailor Sol. At your action, she becomes guarded, but not nearly guarded enough. She doesn’t see you coming as you rake the cold of supernatural darkness across her back.

>29 points of Vitality damage dealt to Sailor Sol

~Grace and intelligence isn’t really what you teenagers are known for,~ you giggle as she staggers forward and spins to face you, ~for example, not standing still in a fight,~

Your glee is short lived as she leaps into the sky and hangs there, thirty feet up, as flames coalesce around her hands.

“Solar SCORCHING!” she points them forward and you step back, burning lances of flame falling on either side of you, “damn!”

Everything is tense as the crowd is backing away as it forms, but watching with rapt attention. Up on the rooftops you see a blue light shine. Sailor Mercury as arrived and likely just transformed.

Bristling and exalting with anger, you pour yourself into this feeling. It rolls off you in strange aura as you laugh and cackle amid the still smoking spots on the ground beside you. It surges into the crowd, many shrinking back.

It reaches up into the sky and engulfs Sailor Sol, as her body burns bright with the energy of her earlier cast magic. She shudders and shakes, eyes widening looking at you. Gritting her teeth she raises her hands to keep fighting, but hesitates.

“W-what are you,” she asks and acts through the fear gripping her, “J-just what are you!?”

“MERCURY BUBBLES!” the blue haired child shouts from among the rooftops.

She uncrosses her arms and a spray of bubbles and mist engulfs you. Its cold.

“BLAST!” she finishes and lands somwehre outside of your sight, “Everyone, please run!”

You stand, blinded by the mist. Vaguely you can see the direction of Sol’s burning light as she moves beside Mercury. Damnit, this is getting complicated.

Using the cover of the chilled mists, you slink into darkness and begin darting from point of cover to point of cover. Staying low, and refreshing your invisibility, you coming around the theater of battle wide and come around upon the waiting Senshi.

They stand there, tense, watching the mist for signs of your movement.

After a short while, the mist clears. Once it is clear you are gone, Mercury tenses further while Sol merely straightens her posture.

“This is bad, she’s still out there,” the worried girl whines.

“Calm down, Mercury,” Sol flips her hair and stretches her arm, “It's not as bad as you think. Let’s get away from here,”

The blue haired girl nods meekly, seemingly defeated by her own worry and ideas. Effortlessly you pursue them as they hop a few rooftops over and drop their transformations, again becoming Keiko Sugimoto and Aiha Mizuno.

“So, what’s not as bad as I think?” asks the blue haired girl in a guilty and timid fashion.

“Mikage,” Keiko huffs and ruffles the smaller girl’s hair, “You were worried about nothing,”

“But the two of you were fighting!” she whines.

“Staged,” she smiles and crosses her arms, “Believe it or not it was a good thing to have happen tonight,”

“I’m confused,” she sighs and rubs her temples in frustration, “I’m so confused about everything right now,”

She takes out her phone and begins fiddling with it.

“Don’t be,” Keiko smiles coyly, “It’ll all make sense soon,”

While Aiha worriedly types into her phone, Keiko’s begins ringing. She excuses herself and answers as the young psychic looks up from her own ministrations to the suddenly embarrassed Sailor Sol.
>>
>>40690649
“Hi,” Keiko chirps, “I know you’re probably wondering what happened to me, but everything is okay. What? No, Midori-chan, just helping out on something with Chi- No, not like that. You were sleeping and I didn’t want to wake you. Actually it was Aiha-chan who called me-,” she glances at the girl beside her, “Who is right here, actually. I’ll be back soon, I’m sorry for worrying you,”

Hastily, Keiko closes the phone and looks at it embarrassed. You couldn’t hear Midori’s half of the conversation, but judging by the way her eyes were following Keiko, you be Aiha could.

“Were the two of you having a sleepover?” Aiha wonders, “I’m sorry I disturbed it for you. I know how tiring a secret identity can be,”

“Yeah, secret identities are tough, aren’t they,” Keiko admonishes the girl, “don’t sweat it, everything is fine,”

“Its just, well, I don’t mean to pry,” Aiha suddenly seems incredibly nervous, “but the way Mori-san was just talking. Are the two of you, are the two of you like Neptune and Uranus?”

Keiko pauses, and looks incredibly uncomfortable.

Let’s pop up and act like we were there the whole time
>>
>>40690665
Appear behind Keiko, boop with Cure Critical Wounds.
Can't have her going back to Midori worse than she left.
Also dismiss Demoralize if if hasn't ended.
>>
>>40690665
>Step out of the dark and join up with the girls
>>40690770
And yeah, fix up Keiko.
>>
>>40690665
Can I vote that we wait just long enough for her to start to answer when we appear?
>>
>>40690918
I imagine Speed of Time will get us there at the best time, and that Art could have fun with that.
>>
As you listen to the girls, you feel your anger has mostly abated. Even the lingering things that normally give you drive in your current facade. Letting the power of your demoralization end, you also relax your grip on the disguise pen’s magic. Again wearing your true face, you take a calming breath and then begin maneuvering yourself into position.

Keiko’s discomfort is palpable, so you sidle up behind her. Using her as cover so that Aiha doesn’t notice you, you lean out to the side once you are perfectly positioned behind her voluminous dark mane of hair.

“Ye-” you don’t let her finish.

~You know, Aiha-chan,~ you scold her playfully, ~You have a habit tonight of asking the kind of questions that really get under people’s skin,~

Both girls yelp in surprise at your presence. Keiko spinning to face you as she hops back beside Aiha.

“Mikage!” she squeaks, “When did you catch up to us?”

You appear to think on it a moment before you lean in towards the other tall girl and press your finger against her nose, in conjunction with expending your dwindling magical reserves on the hurt you gave her by the ends of your mystical claws.

~Boop,~ you say with a simple smile as you feel the curative powers flow through your touch, ~There we go, can’t go returning you to Midori-chan worse than when you left,~

“Careful,” Midori chuckles and motions to the younger girl beside her, “You’re bordering on inappropriate,”

“Mikage!” Aiha finally exclaims, “I’m, I’m sorry about earlier,”

~Yeah,~ you shrug and then scold, ~My fault for letting the Beast out in the first place. I would have handled that differently. Though I’m still disappointed in you for taking our talk in that direction. And asking Keiko about something so scandalous. For shame,~

“And yet,” Keiko sighs as she moves your hand away from her face by the wrist, “You still saw fit to joke about it while you healed me,”
>>
>>40691102

~I couldn’t possibly pass that one up after the clever insults I left to rot and not use on the battlefield,~ you explain yourself as a matter of fact.

“Really? Such as,” Keiko smiles mirthfully.

~Well, letting you know that fighting without grace or intelligence was so you’d be comfortable with fighting me, or saying you fight like a cow,~ you list and smile, ~Honestly they made more sense to me in the heat of the moment,~

“Well,” Keiko scoffs and points to your chest, “Well if you had done that I would have responded that it takes a cow to recognize one,”

~And then the great duel between the Red Eyed Beast and Sailor Sol would have devolved into a fight about breasts. Glad it didn’t play out like that,~

Keiko pauses, and then nods.

“You’re right, you were lucky,” her poise takes on an extra level of self confidence as she adopts a squaring of her shoulders to emphasis certain pride in her appearance.

“Um, I don’t mean to,” Aiha tries to find her way back into the conversation, “argh, Sugimoto-san, I sincerely need your advice!”

You and Keiko cease the comfortable conversation rhythm the two of your found yourselves in and turn to regard Aiha. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and her posture suddenly leaning back to the introverted girl you first spoke with on that bench weeks ago.

“What is it, Mizuno-san?” Keiko asks evenly and with concern.

~Yeah, is everything okay with you?~ you question, ~Even earlier you seemed like something was off when we were talking,~

She looks askance, searching for something that isn’t there, before she screws her eyes shut and takes a deep breath.

“I don’t mean to put you on the spot like this, Sugimoto-san. And, I didn’t mean to put you on the spot earlier either Mikage-chan. I’m sorry, but apparently I am asking inappropriate question after inappropriate question,”

You stare at her, dubiously.
>>
>>40691116
“And, well,” she takes a steadying breath, “This is a query of opportunity and necessity,”

You and Keiko share a concerned glance as the young girl in blue hair continues.

“And, and I don’t think I could even bear to bring this kind of thing to my mother even after we made our peace with one another,” she fidgets a bit.

“Aiha-chan” Keiko says softly, “We’re teammates and friends now. Please, its okay to ask your question,”

Aiha screws her eyes shut and clenches her fists. You can feel the subtle telekinetic force enter the area as she focuses on calming herself down. Whatever she is trying to ask advice after is an incredibly difficult subject for her to even broach.

“I,” the younger girl chokes up a bit, “I think I like girls, and it terrifies me,”

You thought there would be no drama about characters facing or dealing with issues of their sexuality, but IT WAS ME, DIO...I mean...

Midori and Keiko's bit wasn't as turmoil heavy, and they're still going to be super private about it once school starts back up.

Aiha's issues are different. She already feels like an outsider and these issues and her fears and confusion there in are hopefully going to be an interesting part of her development.

Glad we all had fun.

Thanks for running

Well, at she picked an interesting pair to open up to about it. Someone exploring that herself and a practiced outsider with couple riding along.
>>

Adorable.

Absolutely adorable

I cant believe none of you recognise Monkey Island insult swordfighting when you see it, you bunch of degenerate weeaboo scum.
>>
>>40691284
I wonder how that was viewed in the old kingdom.

Dang, and I thought WE could pop up out of nowhere.

Thanks for the thread, Artemis.

It was cute.
>>
>>40693938
Likely extremely favorably.
>>
>>40694232
Keiko chuckles. Keiko. It was late.

>>40691945
Last time I played that was at a summer camp on a computer that would spaz out every 15 minutes. Good times.
>>
It randomly occurs to me that the Reincarnation spell likely has a very different effect in this setting.
>>
>>40694914
Yeah, it's more of a "See you next campaign" spell here.
>>
>>40695061
How does the Summon Monster/Shadows work for us here?
>>
>>40695373
I'll have to get back to you on that.
>>
>>40695373
Okay, getting back to you. Rather than explain the nature of summoning vs creating temporary constructs, I have this to explain the spells in question.

If you have them, it just works.
>>
>>40695061
Unless it's performed by/on Saturn?
>>
>>40698399
Technically that isn't reincarnation. That's a straight up nuke self and be reborn immediately pending on how you do it.
>>
>>40688572
Having an upfront Declaration in combat seems like a good idea going forward.

Plus it helps establish the intent of the attack (cause harm, throw off their game, tired them out) etc.

So I think we'll do that going forward.
>>
>>40694521
How favorably?

There are like, six doujins I don't have links for that I'd want to post for this.

How favorably do you think its viewed in Crystal tokyo?
>>
So, lets try for a thread on Saturday. Gearing up for game night now. Hope all you guys had a fun thread and I was very happy that we had so much participation today.
>>
>>40702662
well, participation extending into today, technically it was mostly yesterday.
