"Why have you called me here cousin?" says a voice sounding of the solemnity of a graveyard "Because there is something I would discuss with you. You are aware, surely, of the state of things on the mortal plane?" a voice war and chains asks.
"Of course, I am the ruler of their passing." "Have you not noticed, how many times our servants, our vassals, have been betrayed by those who claim to give fealty to them?" "I have, how ironic, that the lord of enslavement would call on me to discuss treachery."

"I have always been honest in my dealings with you, you may find the situation laughable, but that does not change the fact that our servants are often overthrown." "Why did you call on me to discuss this? What do you expect me to do about it." "Your creations are ever loyal, unless some strong magic twists them away, I would have you help me find a solution." a peal of laughter fills the air

"My creations are mindless, you would not find good servants amongst their number." "Then what would you suggest we do?" a new voice enters the discussion, a whisper full of madness and trickery "I believe I could help you with that, my heavenly relatives."

"Whisperer, why have you come, I did not summon you to this meeting as I did Krona, we have no need of your insane babbling today."

"Ah your words wound me Tilarn, I came here to offer you a solution to your problem, and you scorn me, maybe I really should leave." "Speak He'akmota, My cousin is to suspicious for his own good."

"Very well, I have a secret to tell you two, the key to binding your powers into a new race, who's loyalty your servants will never have to question." "Why would you help us whisperer, you have no reason to aid us in this endeavor."

"I know many things, lord of conquest, I see that which you do not, and I have reasons of my own for telling you how this thing shall come to pass."

"Enough squabbling cousin, you called me here to help you find an answer to your problem, and He'akmota is offering to give us one, I say we should hear him out at the least."

"...Very well, I shall listen to you whisperer, but do not play me false." "Do not worry chainmaster, in this matter I shall be completely honest with you, for you see, I am waiting for somebody, and he shall need loyal servants if he is to accomplish the task I have seen, now then, draw close, and I shall tell you how to create your loyal servants."

End of side story, "Their Masterpiece" the other side stories may be viewed at a later date, I'll be back in a few minutes with the adventures of our main character. talk amongst yourselves

Avitus POV

Those events seem like they happened a lifetime ago, when in reality it has only been three days since you lit the liars cathedral ablaze. Since that time, you and your companions have made your way to the town of Dirtcrest, where you have managed to sign up to join an adventuring party, hiding the nature of your powers. Your companions,

>Ergon is still in town with Karin, Jasmine joined the party with you
>Jasmine and Karin are still in town, Ergon joined the group with you
>All of your companions are still in town, you joined the group on your own

>Jasmine and Karin are still in town, Ergon joined the group with you

Definitely this.
>>
>>40697656
Is Ergon able to hide his hand yet? If yes then take him, if not then bring Jasmine.
>>
>>40697753
nope.
>>
>>40697656
>>Jasmine and Karin are still in town, Ergon joined the group with you
I like his funny attitude
>>
>>40697774

"We grew up together in an orphanage. One day, a fire broke out in the village, and the orphanage was set aflame. I was trapped in a pantry when Ergon came back in to save me, but his arm was burned horribly as he led me out of the burning building. It's the scar he wears for saving my life. I'll never forget it."
>>
Since we seem to be bringing Ergon, how do explain away his hand? Could we just wrap it in bandages?
>>

>>40697714
>>40697720

>>40697821
He has claws anon, and his arm is covered in ash-gray scales not burns
>>40697826
yeah, you could do that pretty easily, whether you do that is up to you guys
>do you hide ergon's hand and if so how
>>
>>40697821

And if they say "That doesn't look like a burn to me."

I was desperate to find a way to fix his arm. He was in tremendous pain, and none of the healers in our small village were apt enough to treat it. So I went to find a woods witch who was rumored to live nearby. She was a creepy old hag, but she gave me an ointment to rub on his arm. It worked, I guess. The pain and lost function in his hand went away, but he was horribly deformed by it."
>>
>>40697848
Yes, with bandages and maybe a bracer over top it.
>>
>>40697826
A magic experiment gone horribly wrong or just answer them very vaguely like "It's a long story we don't want to go in detail"
>>
>>40697848
>>40697848

Put his arm in a sling and bandage it up. The adventurers won't be too curious and there will be an added bonus when we doublecross these guys and Ergon freaks everyone out with a claw arm.
>>
>>40697848
Yes hide it with bandages. As for god talk I'm kinda surprised we learned Gnir's real name maybe.
>>
>>40697893
You know he uses his sword with his right hand right?
>>40697905
I can confirm that He'akmota is not gnir
>>
>>40697905

That wasn't Gnir, that's another God.
>>
>>40697878
This. "It's a long story, but in the end it was this or have him die. The important thing is that my friend, basically the only person I consider Family other than Jasmine, is still alive".
>>
>>40697848
So it's looking like the general consensus is, wrap his arm in bandages, "It's a long story" sound good?
>>
>>40697967

If they really press is, we can say that we barely escaped the bandit raid. They obviously don't need to know that we killed them all.
>>
>>40697918
If it's another god then why did he refer to Krona and Tilarn as "my heavenly relatives", implying that he is not heavenly?

Well, it seems that Gnir is a servant of He'akmota.
>>
>>40698031
Gnir is his own entity who does not serve anybody, I can't tell you more than that without spoiling something.
>>
>>40698031
Or Gnir is another extension of He'akmota?
>>
>Tosses more art onto the art pile.
>>
>>40698054

Maybe Gnir is a former God who was dethroned by the current pantheon.

He obviously wants us to go full Kronos and murder the current gods so he can take his old position.
>>
>>40698098

I'm fine with this.

So long as we get to uproot the Lady and take her spot.
>>
>>40697656
As Fuldo stumps over to the door in the side of the hill, Ergon comes up next to you, wiping goblin blood off his sword. "Argumentative bunch aren't they?" Fuldo wrenchs the door open, revealing a stone staircase leading down into the earth, at the bottom you can see a stone corridor. Bregnest turns to address the group, "Alright, everyone remember what we're here for, we need to clear this cave of goblins and kill the leader, should be a simple enough job, so let's get moving" you descend into the stone corridor, eventually coming to a wooden door. The rogue steps forward, listening at the door "Sounds like a couple of goblins in there, arguing, can't tell you much else."

Fuldo stumps forward, kicking the door open and charging in, The door opens into a rather large cavern, clearly formed naturally and not worked stone, 15 goblins can be seen milling about the room, mostly armed with nasty-looking daggers, but three are armed with bows, Fuldo and Bregnest charge the closest goblins, the rogue slips off to one side, Amerith begins to play a song of bolstering magic, and Ergon steps into the room and off to one side, pulling out his crossbow and aiming for one of the archer's you

>>
>>40698673

Anyone else interested in seeing if we can manipulate this guy into joining us?

Nope. Training under him for a time will be interesting until he inevitably comes to his untimely end due to a situation we refuse to help him with.
>>

I think we would have better luck with the rogue.
>>
>>40698415
The goblin archers scramble for their bows as you, Fuldo and Bregnest crash into the goblins on the floor below, you see the rogue making his way through the shadows and around behind the archers, nobody notice's him as he slips past, Amerith starts playing, and you feel your body begin to react a little faster, your swings hit a little harder.
>+2 bonus to rolls due to bard song
Fuldo Lops the head off the first goblin he slams into, but he gets stabbed by one of the others
>Fuldo HP 14/17
You can see Ergon take aim, and one of the archers drops dead with a quarrel in his chest, For your part you do quite well, sending one goblin flying with your shield and bashing in the skull of another, Bregnest takes out his greatsword, and cuts three of them in half with one swing, a faint purple glow lighting up the blade. Damn, that thing must be enchanted. The singing stops abruptly as an arrow catches Amerith in the arm,
>Amerith HP 9/12
The rogue fall on the archers, sliding a short sword into ones throat from behind, and sending a throwing knife into the last ones eye.
The battle ends pretty quickly after that, the goblins left don't stand much chance against the three of you in melee, you do get a cut on the arm once from where a goblin got lucky though
>Avitus HP: 16/18
The goblins are all dead now, and a cursory glance reveals nothing of value in this room, a rough rocky corridor leads out of this room from and curves slightly blocking your view of where it ends.

Wait, why would we do that? I assume people know we left with them, and there doesn't seem to be any reason to do this as opposed to making a reputation that we are good at what we do and easy to work with.

I mean, yeah, if we get offered some awesome power or there's some issue with us or Ergon being Blackguard and monster respectively, than they all have to die.

But let's not just randomly kill dudes to prove how fucking evil we are, hey?

Even then, I feel like we're the kind of guy who respects loyalty and honesty, given our previous shitty experience with the elders of our order.
>>
>>40699293

Hey, how likely are people to freak out about our Lay on Hands ability if we use it?

Ooooh, I hope that later on we get to turn it into a mind-control thing where people have to accept it of their own free will when we heal them and it makes them susceptible to our suggestions.
>>
>>40699327
With you. We haven't been kicked in the dick enough by the world to just start murdering people. Letting them die due to their own idiocy when we don't actually know that? Sure. But actively backstabbing our group and leaving them to die? Pretty sure that hits too close to home as to what we just went through.
>>
>>40699327
I essentially see you as lawful evil, or at least becoming that, not random burnkillstab evil, to quote Gnarl, "Your people can't serve you from inside a wolf's stomach lord"
>>40699361
Your lay-on-hands is currently normal lay-on-hands, the thing with Ergon was because of the backlash caused by having just contracted Tilarn and Krona at the same time.
>>
>>40699327

It's not to prove to the world how edgy we are, it's to take all of the phat loot for ourselves.

Simple pragmatism.
>>
>>40699369
>>40699327

Actually these are both really good points.

Maybe we'll let them get themselves killed but we won't actively save them either? That seems most in-character right now.

Fuldo, Amerith, and the rogue go down, goblins having jumped onto their backs and started stabbing them, Bregnest is quicker, but just barely, throwing the goblin off of his shoulders and stabbing it with his great-sword, you push mana into your limbs as the you feel the goblin land on you, your enhanced speed allowing you to pluck him off your shoulders and smash him with your warhammer,
Ergon turns quickly, somehow alerted by some noise, grabbing the goblin leaping at him and crushing it's throat with his hand, it's blood seeping out to color the bandages you used to hide his scales. I will explain later. For now we have bigger problems.

A later explanation.
I was born the second son of a cleric family. In my family there is a sacred duty to keep trapped a terrible demon and so a spell is passed from the Godess to the child of the family each generation who posses the strongest magical affinity. I was not suppose to be this child, but then that night happened. My family was all slaughtered and I was left entirely alone. Naturally the duty has befallen me to protect my land from the demon, but I lack the necessary mana to bind and trap him. The spell you saw was the first in the series of spells required to keep him ensnared. In fact, it is the weakest yet the burden it places on me each time I use it is great. I am sorry to lie to you, but my families murderers are still out there and the duty is yet unfilled. These magics are hard for me to use and I often do not get them right. Even when I used it earlier it was weaker than normal.

I am enjoying it thoroughly. I will recognize that guide is uber Based and has a really good writing style, but each person develops their own writing style to fit their needs. I actually don't really know any other QM's that can output at the pace you have.

Bregnest lowers his sword, "You certainly have a good point, but I'll want an answer later." Good, that's THAT problem averted for now, you turn back towards the hobgoblin leader and...Wait who the fuck is that? You react almost instantly, pushing mana into your limbs and dashing, throwing yourself in front of Ergon and bringing your shield forwards as your chain spell explodes in a hail of molten shrapnel, slamming into your shield and denting it in several places.

When the molten rain ends, you lower your shield, taking in the scene before your. The magic-user stands near the tunnel, unharmed, it looks like the other hob-goblin was torn to pieces by the exploding spell, you look around for Bregnest and...oh...

"Your arm shreds itself open as dark energy flows through you..."
>>
>>40702215
You guys ever read ogre quest? cause I swear this is turning into ogre quest
Time slows down around you, the world goes gray, you gather the energy for a dark lance, hoping to interrupt the spell-caster, as you pump mana into your tired limbs, willing yourself to move faster, to react quicker, you lose focus.

The energy of the spell you are gathering in your hand warps, twisting, dancing, reaching out and grabbing at you. Several black tendril, reaches out and sears into your chest, pulling on your very life-force in an effort to power itself, growing larger, shaping almost into a mouth, a twisted screaming thing that writhes in your hand, the spell is beyond your control now, and it drains your life, growing bigger and bigger, until it is a large pulsating thing of blackness, all at once it screams out from you and towards the shaman, crashing right through the magical barrier that protected him from the exploding chains, devouring him completely, and then winking out from existence.
>Avitus HP 1/18
>Avitus has learned a new spell, Screaming Void!

Gather round, friends, and let me regale you with the story of the time that everything was goblins.

>Sitting in tavern with party
>dorf, rogue, bard,
>me, a fighter with a badass sword (obviously lol)
>heard about a big goblin infestation in a nearby cave
>hell yes, i love a good gobbie wrecking crew
>guy telling us this says a party of four might not be enough
>uhavinagiggle.wtf
>two shifty looking guys walk in, one's got a beat up arm, all bandaged, crossbow on his back
>guess they overhear the local telling us about the gobbies
>the one without the gimped arm says him and his bro (yes, he actually used that term) are out of supplies and need some cash to buy more
>ask him how the fuck his one-armed "bro" is going to be any help to us
>bandage guy gets a weird look in his eye, i don't like that one bit
>other one tells us it's just a disfigurement, he covers it so people don't stare
>place is way too back country for that kind of sentiment but sure, whatever
>we head out
>gobbies camped in woods outside cave, we wreck their shit
>this fighter guy is actually pretty deadly with that warhammer
>disfigured queer-bait sends a few good quarrels too, guess he wasn't lying about the arm
>we make our way into the cave
>more gobbies, i'm in my element now
>semi-boner beneath my tunic, fuck i love smashing gobs
>everyone besides this warhammer guy is acting like they had one too many back at the tavern
>dorf is basically just flailing around at this point, fuck knows how he hit anybody
>make our way further into the cave
>mother
>fuckin
>hobgoblin
>(up in this bitch)
>guess i shouldn't have been surprised, too many gobbies in one place for there not to be a head on this snake
>bard's getting ready to do his thing, dorf gets this mad smile on his face like he's gonna 1v1 the bastard and be done with it

You're tired, so very tired, you try to stay awake, try to hold yourself on your feet, but you just can't, you slump to your knees, keeling over as the blackness rush's up to meet you.

??? POV
You float, blind and deaf and helpless. A mere pitiful shell of your once mighty form, reduced to this wretched state by those who usurped you all you years ago. Your power broken, your name, your very being, wiped from existence without a trace. What the upstarts did would have killed a lesser being. But not you, even as the overthrew you, there were those among them who did not turn away form you, who helped you survive. But they could do no more. And now you are trapped, stuck forever in the void you hid yourself in, wishing for a revenge that will never come. And then, something changes. In the infinite darkness of your prison, you feel something. A spark. Something is drawing on your power, after the infinity you have spent here, trapped, someone has called on you again. You will nourish this spark, feed it, until it is a raging inferno that will destroy those who cast you into this place, bring about your long-awaited vengence. And then you can vanish, your revenge complete, you can have peace. Yes, you will feed this spark.

Cont. with Ergon's POV in a few minutes

>dorf bard and rogue all go down, pretty sure the rogue just got crushed to death
>note to you new players out there: being a rogue is no excuse for not being a beefy motherfucker
>unless you prefer to drown in goblins

>allofmywat. that's some ruse you got there buddy

This guy sounds like he wants to burn down the universe because the other gods didn't pick him for their kickball team. Then piss on the ashes.

So i was right as to the description of the ring in the first or second thread. Also, that earlier post might not be worded correct but my original guess was not that the ring contained the god simply that one of his followers is the ring and he is channeling the god through it to us. Again I could still be wrong, but you seemed to interpret that as it contained the god.

You walk down the corridor that the warlock came from, and it opens into a small room, a large table along one wall has several glass bottles set on it, and a map spread out, held down with the skulls of small animals, of to one side is a bed, with a small chest at the base

>Open the chest

But the D&D economy makes no sense, as we all know. A dagger costs twice as much as a spear (which is basically a dagger on a stick), and is the same price as a full metal gauntlet. A 10-foot ladder costs 5 cp while a 10-foot pole costs 2 sp - and quarterstaves cost absolutely nothing.

>A pouch with several gemstones in it worth 47 GP
>A ring
>Several rough round stones, with runes carved onto them
Walking over to the table, you pick up the vials filled with odd liquid, storing them carefully in your pack
>3 mysterious red potions

You walk over to the map and look down, it looks like a normal map of the area, with one differance, deep in the nearby woods, roughly 5 days march from the town, is a large X in drawn on the map, and below it is the name

Jasmine POV

You and Karin are in the main room of the inn that Avitus rented you rooms in, enjoying your first real meal in the last three days, the tavern room is mostly empty, the only other patrons besides you, are a group of large men at a table off to one side getting extremely drunk, and a taller man wearing plate armor in a corner, you can see a longsword at his hip. Your eyes drift over to Karin as you eat, she's just so adorable! You just want to grab her and go upstairs...Okay where did THAT thought?! you shake it out of your head, you do NOT need that kind of thing distracting you.

The tall man in the corner gets up, having finished his meal, and heads for the door, on the way, one of the drinking men gets up, stepping between the armored man and the door, his friends follow "Ere yew, wot's a rich lookin fella like you doin in a place like this? Yew think you're better than us don't you?" The armored man simply stares "Say somethin, are you lookin to start a fight?" okay, this looks like it could get ugly.

>Move to back up the armored man, he's outnumbered 5 to 1
