You are Jakdal Zul, Sith Apprentice - and your first taste of victory is intoxicating. You successfully acquired the secrets of the arcane Force cult known as the Sensari, and befriended a Padawan called Kaitan, who you were later forced to capture.

Now, after surviving the mystic visions of the Path of Ashes, and the shadowy crucible of your training on Moraband, you are called to your teacher - Darth Greia.

The figure, vaguely humanoid and sealed in carapace-like armor, sits across from you at its desk, the blood of whatever it was recently dissecting meticulously washed away.

"My apprentice - I'm not quite sure where to begin..."

"I suppose I should begin with a congratulations. Our victory on Sho'al will pave the way for my - no, now for our research to lead the Sith into a new era of dominance. Still, there is much that we have to discuss, reflect upon..."

The lights behind the inhuman creature's mask waver, then flicker towards brightness, a fascinating design of colors.

You clear your throat. "Well, Master, I've told you most of what already happened..."

"Kaitan, the Padawan we captured. She has impressive strength in the Force - I saw this on the Path."

Greia taps the surface of his desk idly. "Does this make the Jedi a threat, or an asset?"

"...both." You say cautiously.

"Good. A resourceful Sith can always make a threat into an asset. But -" The Lord pauses with his tapping. "If you cannot use something, it is best to ensure it can never threaten you. And the only way to ensure that is destruction. Before now, a critical element of her fall was missing - can you tell me what that was?"

"Her Master was a powerful practitioner of the Light Side. As long as he was there, I couldn't hope to turn her."

"Right - partially." Your Master says, enjoying this game. "She wasn't vulnerable. She was secure in her identity as a Jedi, an enemy of the Sith - now, her Master's death has shaken her. She's afraid and helpless. We will show her that the darkness is there for her. If it fails, I can always use more... subjects."

The Sith's grating voice stresses the last word, filling it with evil intent.

"Leegar." you say. Your Master looks at you oddly. "He was the rodian. Can you tell me more about him?"

" Our recruiter dredged him up from Nal Hutta during a scouting expedition. He spent the better part of his time in the Academy in the combat ring - and judging from what he got from the tombs, he seems to be scavenging the components for a lightsaber. Not all Sith are as lucky as you. He wandered back from the Path of Ashes like the others that did - still thinking he was going up. 'Not worthy' according to the Sensari."

"Odd." you say. "What made him unworthy?"

"He's not introspective enough to find out, and he certainly didn't tell me. For someone so... uneducated, he was very respectful."

>>40717263

"While you were with the Sensari, I pulled a classic trick on the main Sho'ali government - covertly kidnap their leader, then transplant his epidermis to one of my men. I imagine by the time our minister leaves his post, it will be too entrenched in the Empire to leave. He dispatched enough troops that your three little Sith friends could kill the Jedi Master - shock probes, gas, the works."

"Three? I told you -"

"Yes, you did say that Telza ended her life. Her reports conflicted with yours." Greia gazes at you from across the table. "We can gather more facts, if you wish?"

As you open your mouth to speak, a faint 'ring' fills the room. Greia lets out a metallic, irritated sigh and taps a button - and a familiar figure flickers into being at the center of it.

"Lord Greia." It says. "I hope you care to explain yourself."

"When you say that, Lord Lucent, it usually means you hope I have no explanation. I'm afraid that's not the case."

With her usual horned war helm removed, the head of the Pyramid of Assassination is by all rights conventionally beautiful - pale and smooth-skinned, with her domain's emblem tattooed on her forehead. Her hair falls behind her in a long, dark braid and her robes are a stark white.

"Then explain why you decided to waste the Empire's time and resources conquering a fringe world in the end of nowhere with nothing to offer."

"It offered obscure Force secrets to advance the Dark Lord's goals. His word is our law."

"Hah!" She says. "The Dark Lord has commanded all of us to go to war against the Republic. You know that you're no exception. He may have condoned your impossible pet project, but that's no excuse for this behavior. I want results."

Greia makes a dismissive gesture. "Patience, Lucent. He will receive them." She turns back to you.

"I know little about our Dark Lord, Master."

"I know that once this war is over, we'll ideally rule the galaxy again, but... it's a bother. So many Sith are being gathered and trained in combat and the Force - but little and less about our history, our philosophy. Mustafar churns out ravening berserkers to kill and die for the Dark Lord, and I imagine most of them have, at most, heard of him."

"Is that why you chose me?"

"Yes - I didn't want your potential squandered."

"Our Dark Lord... I don't know where he came from. No one does. He was once human, but now... no one can say. He hides himself in his robes, and his connection to the Dark Side is such that his presence can end battles. Greia laughs, a noise like a toddler falling into a pile of broken glass. "She's his apprentice - and I honestly think she believes he loves her. It's her greatest weakness. Because he can control her, and he thinks she can put his enemies in their graves. And she's put me in a tricky position. If I rush to the front lines, people will think I'm her lapdog. "My lords." she says.

Greia unfolds the desk into an operating table. "Lie down on the table." He says, waving his hand. "You are numb - you feel nothing."

"I... am numb." She says, lying on the table. She struggles with the words, her tongue like a wet piece of cloth.

You place your hand on her forehead as he injects the first dose - her thoughts are clouded by fear, and muddled by Greia's mental touch, like a stone thrown into mossy water. As the serum enters her, it lends her thoughts depth, clarity - like a whisper reverberating into a shout.

You point at the monitor, then close your eyes. You hear a slow 'whoosh' as Greia increases the dosage slightly.

Her mind is like a stone sinking deeper into the Force - anchored, immersed in its flow. Her body's eyes are shut, and she whispers unintelligibly to herself. Straining, you can hear the echoes. She is in the Academy.

"You have failed. The traditional punishment is execution. However, I have need of experimental subjects. On completion, you could be released."

"I won't be a part of this evil -"

"Brother, no!" Greia lets the lightning course from him, and her brother dies in agony.

"You will... cooperate, won't you?" The monitor begins to flicker with static, and flash an angry red.

"Through passion I gain strength... Through strength power..."

A Twi'lek - your personal subject - stumbles back into the sparse dorm shared by the sensitive testees. He falls to the ground, exhausted - shuddering and mumbling about how he saw his ancestors.

"Through power, victory..."

The Sith looming over you... their probes violating flesh and mind... this is now. She sits up at the operating table.

"Through victory my chains are broken." Her eyes burn with a hateful light. "The Force shall free me."

Greia is right here with us and we should continue to monitor but prepare to either kill the subject or persuade her back to sleep.

If they can break out, perhaps they do deserve to say that.

>>
>>40719251

We can repeat the experiment anytime we want. going ahead blindly now instead of doing it later, after we've discussed what we've learned so far is pointlessly reckless.
>>
>>40719275
>>40719296

As long we hold a saber to the back of her head, we have nothing to worry about.

Greia can shut this party down if he wants and it's not our place to stop it.
>>
>>40719296
There's points were you have to be reckless to discover something great and I think now is one of those moments, we have Greia, a darth, I bet he will be able to stop her if things go beserek .

"Please increase the dosage, Master. These results we're getting -"

"More in five minutes than I've gotten in months! I knew Sho'al would pan out, this serum is exactly what I need." Then, the equipment scatters - an outward burst from the patient, accompanied by a noiseless thundering.

"Revenge." The subject says breathlessly. She gestures, and another burst of power emanates from her. You get hurled backwards into a wall, and Greia takes a step backwards.

"Apprentice - kill or disable, your choice. I'm getting the equipment out of here intact."

It's common sense to take the majority vote, I don't know why QMs use first to 3 anyways

>>40719662

You lift your hands and immerse your mind in your passions - pains, fears, and aggressive feelings. You loose them in a single, flashing spark of cerulean energy - colliding with the angry acolyte. She lets out a pained cry, but doesn't stop or step down.

"My brother will be avenged." She lifts her hand, and you sense the Force gathering in her.

Just popping in to say that its a fucking stupid way of voting and does nothing but aggravate and spite your own players when you have more than 4 players, so stop being fucking stupid and change it already.

You shouldn't have even had it in the first place, its really obvious how shitty a system it is.

OP, take majority votes from now on and make players respond in identical text for each vote. People are going to start cheating to win votes and you need to change your methodology.
>>
>>40719662
No it doesn't and no it doesn't.

All it does is piss off players for ignoring their votes and makes it a race to samefag, its a retarded way of voting that does nothing but shit things up.
>>
>>40719762

It wasn't, but I could the next time I see a stupid joke option like >>40717411 [ ] "Hi!"

that does nothing anon, FD voting has never worked

Majority wins for christs sakes OP, everyone knows its a broken way of doing things.
>>
>>40719851
I prefer majority rules, as while samefagging can be an issue, it's an issue anyway. Plus it allows slower voters to have a say. Write-ins, realisations etc can also have an effect in majority rules. It's just better really, no reason not to use it. Just need to have a clear cut off point.

The players have spoken. The quest's rules are revised so that the majority decision will be used, regardless of timing.

You reach into her mind - awash in the Dark Side, it's like diving into an icy lake. Thoughts of bloody revenge and memories of indignation pulse within her.

"Be still. Fall silent." She turns towards you, ready to bring her strength to bear against you. "Let the past be the past."

She steps towards you... a stagger. And she falls, breathing softly.

You grab an anesthetic syringe from the ground, one of the few ones still intact, and dose her with it. Propping her on the operating table, you activate the built in wrist and ankle restraints.

"Apprentice - good work cleaning that up." Greia says. While your brief battle raged, he had lifted the fragile measuring devices out of the room with the Force. "These results - magnificent. They could change everything."

Thank you for playing SAQ - I'll be back with more of Jakdal's adventures.

>>
>>40719968
That is not strictly true. As the number of voters ramp up, a fewer fraction of them stick around to actually LOOK at the write-ins, let alone vote for or think about them.

Obviously, it depends on the audience. This one in particular takes more care in write-ins than most, so...
