You feel a tearing at your body, like every single molecule in your body is being shorn piece from piece. You try to resist, but your will crumples and whatevers pulling you completely rips you from your own plane of existence, trodding on you with steel-toed boots and kicking you into the corner,

You realize that this feeling is exactly like that first time...when you saved Eve.

But it seems like you might need saving yourself, now.

Darkness consumes you, and you’re carried along, in a mix of pure agony and something approaching calm, watching and waiting for the ride to be over.

And finally, it does end, spitting you out into...

Well, you can’t really tell. It’s completely dark.

“Eve?” you call out, attempting to stand. You hear nothing but the echoes of your own voice.

And slowly, you slump back against the wall, as the realization hits you.

You’re alone.

Hello and welcome back to Best Dad Ever Quest! I got in the mood yesterday, so I’m back again, ready to continue this adventure!

You sit there for a little while.

You feel vulnerable. You haven’t been alone, really, for too long of a time. You’ve always had Eve to back you up, just as you backed her up.

And now you’re alone.

After a minute, you manage to struggle to your feet, holding your caneblade close. It’s the one defense you have, and like hell you’re going to let anyone hurt you, or stop you from finding your daughter.

You walk along in the darkness for a bit. It feels thick, almost like a cloud around you.

You stand still for a moment, trying to clear the clouds away, but they only press onwards, harder. Your eyes themselves feel under pressure from the clouds, and you’re seeing stars run across the blackness.

You close your eyes for a bit, relieving the pressure, but now it’s almost like there’s nothing.

You try to speak again. “Hello?”

You can hear the echoes bounce around the room you’re in. And a skitter. Something’s in the room with you.

At the sound, you take your caneblade and draw it, the metal rasping and sending out more echoes as it comes free from the sheath. You stand there, breathing a bit slower and shallower, waiting for the skitter to come again.

And you hear it. This time, it’s behind you. You turn around, taking your time, trying to face the sound, but it eludes you, moving from place to place, sending out more echoes.

And finally, after five seconds of silence, you hear another step, and a whistling noise, as something pierces the clouds, aimed at you.

Even as you spin around to face the noise, it lands onto you, a beast grabbing onto your body, and clawing at you. You shove your caneblade up between the two of you and send it flying backwards, and rush after it, swiping at random with your blade.

The beast retreats, but you can follow the skitters just a bit better now, and your head turns to follow the noise. Even as it jumps at you again, you swipe to catch it mid-air. It screams, the sound echoing throughout the room, and you slice at it again, catching one of it’s limbs. You hear it drop to, the floor beside you.

This time, the beast retreats a bit more carefully, and when it jumps at you the final time, your blade isn’t in the right place. It squeals in delight, and you can feel its claws go for your eyes. In the pain from the various scratches it dealt to you, you roar and finally spike it with the caneblade, destroying whatever was left of it.

You fall to the ground, panting at the exertion. Next to you you can feel the monster, lying dead. When you run your hands over it, it seems like there are far too many limbs, too many claws. It reminds you of that sex scene from Top Secret, with all the arms and legs, but in a much less funny way.

Your body stings with the cuts and gashes, and your own face feels pretty torn up. Luckily enough, though, the cloud seems to have lessened its pressure on you, though it’s still as dark as before, if not darker.

Writing for light, then wounds.
>>
>>40743169

You feel around your coat pockets for anything to make a light with, and in your left breast pocket you find your pipe and lighter (both strictly ceremonial: you don’t like smoking, but like hell you’re going to not have a pipe on you). Taking out the lighter and fumbling around with it, you manage to find the wheel and flint, and light it.

Nothing.

You try waving it around a bit, closer and further, to see if the flame’s hidden by the clouds. Nada. You then hover your hand over it, feeling for a flame, and pulling it back quickly when the flame jumps at your fingertips.

You set the lighter to the side quickly, and start feeling over your body for any injuries, though you have a sneaking suspicion about what’s happened. Eventually, your hands find your way to your face, dismissing the rest of the wounds as superficial. Your face itself isn’t much worse, maybe a few deep gashes on your cheek and neck, but your hands freeze when they reach your eyes.

Or, well, what’s left. The pain from all the other wounds covered it up. Gently, hissing at the pain, you try to feel out the eyeballs, but you only find flesh, and small remains that make your vision spark and pain flare when you touch it. The optic nerves.

You’re blind.

Well.

Shit.

Fuck this. This is complete and utter bullshit. But that’s not going to stop you from fucking up absolutely anything that comes your way.

After all, you’re the Best Dad Ever.

You slowly stand up again, using your cane to support yourself as you get up onto your feet. First things first, it’s time to use your cane properly.

You tap the cane against the ground, feeling the echoes bounce off around the room again. And so, you start walking, sweeping the cane in front of you, keeping as steady as possible. You can’t help but bump into a few things, some furniture of whatever place you’re in, but after a bit you manage to get the hang of it, tapping occasionally and listening for a ring or shudder from something else in the room to avoid it.

Eventually, you find a wall and trace your way along it, until you reach a door. When you go through, tapping with your cane to find the size of the space, you find it stretching far along. You can also feel a bit of warmth on your face, coming from one end of wherever you are now. But not too much farther, near where the warmth is, you can hear some voices. One hard, biting off each word, and the other stoic.

The angry one speaks. “And how are they progressing through?”

The reply comes, calm. “At the pace you expected, sir. The one you spoke of is following the path you set. The small one though, she’s avoiding it all.”

“How fast will she get here?”

“Not fast enough.”

“Good. Make sure that they don’t meet. Maybe take the small one as well, she’s not important.”

“Understood, sir.”

“And has It returned with its prey?”

“No, sir.”

>>
>>40743911
That was OOC, mostly from a viewpoint swap.
>>
>>40743911

Wasn't part of your perspective.

>>40743851

A moment of silence. Then drips of venom, “You’re telling me It hasn’t recovered the prey, yet? It was meant to have prepared it by now.”

“Maybe It hasn’t found him yet-”

You can hear something like a fist get slammed against a table. “It is a predator. It has never failed. How could he have evaded it?”

As they speak, you’ve been quietly edging around the room, staying closer to the clouds that leak from the walls, hoping that you’re out of their sight. Each time you take a step, though, the pain spikes and you can’t help but hiss, however quietly.

You need to find a place to rest.

The two voices keep conversing. “Shall I check in on It, sir?”

“Hmmph. No. We’re taking a gamble here, no matter what. The Slut knows what I’m doing, but if I give her too much evidence she’s going to kick my ass, or steal the glory. Leave It to do Its business. We shall wait.”

The voices stop, and you pause to listen for any more, making out the faint sound of footsteps as they leave the hall.

You slowly slide to the ground, back against the wall, holding back another cry at the pain.

>>
>>40743935

Alright. You need to find Eve, and warn her of exactly what’s going to happen.

But first...

You use your caneblade to cut off a length of your sweater, and then tying that all around your head, over your eyes, or lack thereof. While doing that, you notice some slime, maybe left over from whatever the beast was, and slightly sticky too, but you manage to wipe most of it off, though you avoid messing with whatever’s in your eyes. Wouldn’t be worth the pain.

Finally, you stand up, and continue to edge around the room. As you do, you find another doorway, the clouds parting around it to leave a clear entrance.

>Go inside.
>Scout the rest of the room, see if there’s some other path to Eve.

Writing for this, then.
>>
>>40744121

You push away from the wall to go around the doorway, and continue scouting around the room, looking for more exits. As you go around, you find it all coming into the warm area, where the voices had been talking. The clouds themselves also start to fade away more, with the last chunk of it being about five metres away from whatever the warm area is.

Slowly, listening for any more movement, you pull away from the cloud, walking towards the warmth. As you get closer, you can also hear crackling, and figure out it’s a fire. Arranged around it are couches and chairs, with a small table next to it all, and when you run your hands over it you find some papers, and a knife of some kind.

You can hear some echoes further on, past the fire, where the two voices must have gone. You also hear some more coming from another entrance, on the other side of the fire, though those sound less like talking and more like...screams.

Before you leave, you pick up the knife on the table and deposit it in an inner coat pocket, making sure the blade won’t cut through the fabric by wrapping it in some of the papers from the table. It does actually seem dull, so that isn’t a problem. After that, you walk around the table and proceed towards the entrance, your cane staying ahead of you, sweeping for any obstacles.

As you go through the doorway, the screams start to fade away, and soon the only sound is your cane tapping against the ground, and your own breathing, kept shallow so you can listen for any reverberations from what’s ahead.

Soon enough, you exit the hallway, and find yourself in room, though this one is cold. In fact, the clouds seem to get stronger, here, though it’s all oozing around your legs. As you advance into the room, the tap of your cane reveals some large object in the centre of the room, from where the clouds seem to be coming from.

You advance through the thick clouds towards the object, using your cane to probe at it curiously. The sound that comes back is muted, metal but dampened by something else. When you reach out to touch it, your hand comes away sticky, covered in whatever that slime stuff is. It tingles on your fingers, and as you feel it it starts to come apart, evaporating away into more gas. Whatever the slime is, it’s creating the clouds.

Stepping around the thing, you find a set of stairs leading up along the side of it. With some caution, you slowly go up, keeping your hand out against the wall, while trying to avoid whatever the slime is. By the time the stairs stop and return to a flat surface, whatever slime is on your hands has now covered your hands, the pain of whatever cuts are on it muted by the sludge. Strange.

With your cane, you try to probe the top of the object, but it just goes into it. When you pull the cane out and feel it, you find more of the goo covering it. This is like a giant container for the stuff.

You let yourself go down onto your knees, coming a bit closer with the pool of slime, and reach in with your hand, cupping it and drawing it out. Again, you can feel the tingle on your hand, whatever pain from the slashes fading away. Interesting.

You shrug off your coat jacket and shirt, hanging them over the railing of the staircase, and use a little bit more goo on your arm, where a large gash is. Once again, the goo tingles, and the pain starts to fade until it only feels like a minor scratch. Out of curiosity, you try to wipe off the goo, but it sticks and refuses to move. Using the flat of your caneblade doesn’t work either. Sighing, you set your caneblade to the side, you retrieve the knife from inside the coat pocket, and try that. This time, it all falls off, plopping back down into the container.

The pain’s still gone. And when you feel for the gash, it’s not there anymore either.

>>
>>40745709
I'd imagine you sit on its eye.
>>
>>40745284

Of course. This would be perfect! You quickly unwrap the fabric from around your eyes and pull up another scoop of the slime, and start letting it drip into your eye. You hiss a little at the tingling, even more intense than before, and you gasp a little as there’s a sudden flash, and your left eye can see again. Taking the chance, you look around the room, trying to figure out where you are. While the lack of your other eye is slightly disorientating, you manage to discern that this room holds a huge silo of whatever this greyish ooze is, and the slime itself is slowly evaporating, turning into more of the clouds.

Alright. One eye is enough for now; you don’t know what possible side effects there could be. At the very least, though, you can collect some of it for later.

Reaching inside your coat, you pull out your flask of Honey’s Finest, and take a quick swig before regretfully dumping it out, and fill it up with more of the goo instead.

Just as it’s almost done, you see something out of the corner of your eye, floating in the container.

An arm, or a poor fascimile of one, covered in these awful spikes...

>Nope nope nope time to get out of here

Oh.

FUCK.

You try to grab your lighter from inside your coat pocket, but as you do, the container shakes, shoving you down, the lighter skittering away from you, right next to the ledge of the container.

“Shit shit shit” you mutter, crawling over and grabbing it, but only to find another limb getting there right after you. It tries to wrench the lighter from your grip, but you prevail, snagging it back and lighting it. The fire burns brightly, and your new eye aches a bit at the sight, but you watch as the clouds around it get eaten away, small traces of fire visible in the air.

So this stuff is flammable. Good news.

The bad news slowly appears, as the limbs (now several of them, all floating on the surface of the sludge) start pulling each other together, sinew and muscle forming out of more ooze to knit it all together.

While it slowly becomes a mass-murdering death machine, you reach inside your coat pocket for the needle and thread you keep to fix any tears in your suit (hardly your biggest problem now) and fix it right underneath the wheel, holding down the gas button, leaving the lighter constantly burning.

And finally, just as the new beast rises up from the slime, you toss the lighter in.

And that’s the last thing you see, as you’re thrown backwards against the wall behind you by the massive ball of fire.

The minotaur roars, arms out and wide, ready to challenge the newcomer. It bends down, pawing at the ground with its massive hands, pulling loose some of the tiled floor. With a final snort, It jumps forward, crossing the distance between itself and the enemy in mere seconds-

And skids to a stop, as its armored skull is cut through like a hot knife through butter, the two and a half feet of blade impaling itself into the horned head. The minotaur dies instantly, falling down to the ground, the blade sliding back out again.

You sigh, flicking the blade to the side, cleaning it of the rancid blood, though the blood channels hold onto their own serving, the red fluid quickly mutating, becoming darkness incarnate and storing itself inside the blade, causing the metal to become an even closer shade to pure emptiness.

You’ve been fighting through these things for hours now, and you haven’t caught sight of either Dad, or Jackie, your new sister. You wonder how they’re doing. No matter how strong Dad looks, he does want company in the end, just as you need his help to stand tall at times. And Jackie...well, you really don’t know how she’d deal with this.

Either way, it’s now your turn to rescue your father, and sister.

The hallway around you has the exit behind you, which you just came through. That way leads back to the beginning of this horrid journey, filled with the bodies of those you’ve slain.

And forward, probably more death waiting for you.

You laugh a little bit. No doubt about it, you’re scared out of your mind.

You feel a hand rest on your shoulder. You know it’s not real, but the pressure comforts you nonetheless.

Don’t forget that I’d be scared too, the Voice says cheerfully, hell, I’d be shitting my pants if I were you.

“You’d still do what needed to be done,” you remind it, sheathing your caneblade again and walking forward, onto the next challenge.

(2/3
>>
>>40746739

Just like you, the Voice observes.

“Well, I learnt it from the best.”

Which I’d like to remind you, isn’t me.

“So what are you, then? Just me going insane?”

Remember that cool battle montage between the emotions earlier? Well, depending on which one would’ve won, they would’ve been your guide. Since you chose to not be a little bitch, I won instead! the voice explains. Thus, I shall be the one to explain exactly what the fuck is happening.

“Alright then, oh Great Guide,” you joke, “what the hell *is* happening!”

Not a clue! I’ll tell you when I figure it out, though.

You reach the end of the hallway, leaving you at another junction. To your left is an iron gate, looking in an awful state. You could easily cut it open. Before you is a staircase, leading on upwards. And to your right is a completely ordinary carpet, definitely not lying over something.

You grimace. “Okay, that’s you at the end there, isn’t it?”

Seriously though, that’s an awful disguise. Probably not a good idea to go down whatever trapdoor that’s hiding.

“Alright, let’s just go for the staircase.”

The more boring the better.

You start trotting up the staircase, your boots ringing against the marble construction, your cane tapping the floor rhythmically with each step. Soon enough, you’re at the top, confronting an outdoor bridge. As you step forward, you notice that the ‘outdoors’ here isn’t really what it sounds like: the sky itself is a constantly refracting mess of light, almost as if the aurora borealis were glitch art. Below you is the same, the hall that you used to be in floating above another mess of lights and color.

The bridge seems to connect to a large tower, apparently the final element of this maze you’ve found yourself trapped in. The middle of the bridge is occupied by another large demon, though this one isn’t as stark raving mad as the other ones. For one, he hasn’t attacked you yet.

That might change real fucking fast. Be careful.

As you approach the gigantic being, it turns to look at you, a towering beast, the shield standing before it easily taller than you are. It actually reminds you a bit of that game Infinity Blade, with the size differences.

“Greetings,” you call out to it. It nods its head in response, and returns to its usual position, waiting. Silence reigns.

You scuff your boot against the ground, and look back at the guardian. “Is there something that we’re meant to be doing right now? You amend at the sight of him lifting his shield and sword, “without fighting, if possible.”

The guardian tilts its head, and slowly sets its weapons back down. “You wish to pass without fighting?”

“That’d be nice, yes.”

The guardian pauses. “I...do not think that is possible. Please, let us fight.”

“Are you sure that you want to fight?” you ask it.

The guardian shrugs. “I...don’t know,” it admits. “I know that I was something before this, but I am made to kill. And be killed. That is my fate.”

“And you don’t want any measure of control over that? If you say you were someone before, why can’t you be them again?”

The guardian sighs, a hollow noise. “I don’t know how. I don’t have many memories. I remember a cake, and eight candles. That was the last thing I saw, before I was here, on this bridge.”

“Candles?” you ask.

“I’m...not sure. I know one was for good luck. That’s it.”

“Was that your birthday?”

“I do not know what that means. Sorry.”

“Well...” you search your mind for an answer, when one finally pops up, helpfully provided by-

Yo, challenge him to Chivalrous

“Guardian!”

“Are you ready to fight?”

“Yes, but not with swords and shields! Let us fight as generals, on a grand battlefield!”

The guardian doesn’t move for a second. Then says, “What do you mean?”

“Let us play Chivalrous, the tabletop slash LARP game! We shall play tabletop this time around.”

The guardian starts to chuckle. “Chivalrous. Oh, I know about this. Yes, I am willing to challenge you this way.”

With a swipe of his arm, a table appears before you, a map set out on it, the mountains and ravines actually projecting outwards and into the table. “We shall play Siege,” he continues, “and I shall defend, as is due. I warn you though, I consider myself pretty good at this game.”

You laugh, and begin to summon your own army. “Oh, you may be strong, but I’ve have some training from the greatest there is. Tell me, have you heard of Markam the Black?”

The guardian freezes. “I have. How did you study underneath him?”

You grin. “All I can say is, he’s the Best Dad Ever.”
