Hey everybody, today is going to be a bit different than the other threads, more fighting for one, but I’m going to try and keep things mostly short and sweet to keep things moving. I’m not going to be leaving anything out, but if we get into fighting we might get shorter posts and more rolls. Anyway, we should have fun!

>Fate Point:1
>Money: $285
>Equipment: Tier 2 Assault Rifle. Tier 2 Armor (+4 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo: 1. Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier. (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Tier 1 Rucksack. (Carry Capacity 4.) Quality Lighter. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Your name is William and though you are sometimes called Billy, that’s currently the farthest thing from your mind. Currently you are staring down at one of the largest bodies of men you have ever seen. Mars brought more men with them when they were prepared to hit Salina and the people in Salina had more than a hundred men gathered up on the football field. The difference is that Mars was on your side and the people Salina looked much more raggedy. If anything these men look much more like Mars or even the army than those men. So it’s quite likely the most deadly force you’ve faced in some time, if ever. By the way Morrigan spoke, it’s likely the same for everyone else as well.
>>
>>40786500
“There sure are a lot of them,” comments Nem, all six of you lying close enough to speak quietly to each other, having almost ridden directly into view of the camp.

“Hundred, hundred and fifty maybe,” says Sarah, having brought up her rifle and peering through the scope at them, “they look like they’re pretty well supplied with weapons, armor is a bit iffy.”

“I don’t see very many horses,” says Bellona, “A few mules for supplies probably.”

“They’re organized,” says Morrigan, “roughly at least, three main groups, looks like some kind of light company, all headed for Fort Riley.”

“They’ve got what, fifty men?” asks Nem.

“About that,” says Morrigan, “Some of the citizens might fight back if they start shooting indiscriminately, but the army post is the only point of real resistance. If they get taken by surprise…”

“They’ll be slaughtered,” says Bellona, “especially if they hit at night.”

Cath grunts in agreement.

“What do we do?” asks Nem, turning to Morrigan.

Morrigan sighs, ducking down back behind the hill completely, everyone else following.

Morrigan sits there for a minute before finally replying to you all.

“We’re…

“We’re going to get around them and head straight back to Fort Riley to warn the garrison,” says Morrigan, looking around at everyone. It seems to be a popular move, everyone either nodding or quirking a lip. You nod to her, content to get your instructions.

“I don’t know who the hell these guys are or what they’re doing,” continues Morrigan, “But it sure isn’t any good and they’re headed right towards MMS, Mary and Doc’s along with everyone else in Fort Riley. What I do know is that we’re probably the only ones who can let them know. So let’s mount up, get around these fuckers and let Fort Riley prepare as best we can.”

Everyone nods now, scrambling back to the horses which have only wandered a little bit. Mounting up takes only seconds and then Morrigan wheels her horse to the side, kicking it into a decent trot immediately, feet thumping as you all try to circle around the camp full of men. You do so rather quickly, making it around the camp and into a small fold in the earth where they can’t see you. Everyone seems to relax, having travelled nearly a mile from the camp when you suddenly run into a group of men on foot, dressed just like the ones back at the camp.

Everyone stares at each other for a split second before Morrigan pulls up her rifle and Cath does the same for her weapon. Both open fire just as the men are pulling up their weapons, rounds ripping through the air as the six man group is cut down. Their bullets miss anyone in MMS, but the loud noise of their weapons and the thunder of Cath’s LMG echo through the relatively quiet air. As the last of the men drop, Morrigan turns back to everyone as she slings her rifle.

“Come on!” she yells, “There’s no way they didn’t hear that.”

Still being a more than a few miles from Fort Riley you can’t run the whole way, but Morrigan pushes you and the horses hard for over a mile before slowing down, glancing back behind you.
>>
>>40787425
“I think we’ve lost them,” said Morrigan, “But they’ll probably find their men soon enough. Let’s keep going.”

It takes you another hour, but eventually you make it back to Fort Riley as the sun is still setting, your horses lathered up and panting heavily as you thunder into the main square.

“Cath,” says Morrigan, as she dismounts, tossing her weapon and armor to her, “make sure our gear is as good as can be, I’m headed to the Garrison. Nem, you’re with me. Sarah, Bellona, head inside and get a bit of rest, we might be up all night. Will you…”

“Will, go with Cath and make sure everything is ready for a fight,” says Morrigan, Nem tossing her weapons and gear towards you, “I don’t want anything avoidable to happen alright?”

You and Cath both nod as Morrigan and Nem head towards the center of town and the garrison of soldiers, just as Mary comes running out of the MMS building, a look of concern on her face.

“What’s going on?” she asks as Morrigan and Nem disappear into the remaining crowd of the square.

“Hostile force incoming,” says Sarah as the four of you push into the building, “Hundred, hundred and fifty, pretty well armed.”

“One hundred and fifty?” asks Mary as you and Cath head back to the armory, Sarah and Bellona coming by to drop of their things as well.

“Yeah,” says Sarah, “Hundred and fifty, headed this direction if they’re here to do anything.”

“Morrigan and Nem are headed to warn the Garrison?” asks Mary as you and Cath strip off your gear and begin the process of cleaning it, weapons coming first as you pull out magazines and belts, clearing rounds from breeches as you pull out the tools.

“Looks like,” says Bellona, watching as you go over her weapon with what amounts to a fine tooth comb, “She said she’d be back soon, hopefully with the garrison up and ready.”

“We better get ready then,” says Mary, gesturing out the door, “I’ll get you guys some food, I’m sure you’re hungry.”

Sarah and Bellona nod, following Mary out the door as you and Cath go over the weapons first, the speed at which you go over them not stopping the quality of your work from being excellent. Barrels, mechanisms, everything checked and cleared. The armor is easier, no hits taken in the previous job meaning all you have to do is clean a bit of grit from them. As soon as you’re done, Mary comes in and pulls you away to get some food.

As you’re eating a quick meal of mostly bread and leftovers, Morrigan and Nem come storming back in, Morrigan in a towering rage, causing everybody to freeze for a second.

“Goddamn motherfucking shit-cunt piece of crap namby pamby moron of an east coast yellow bellied wannabe soldier!” she screams, her face red as a tomato, “Couldn’t see an enemy force approaching if it shot up signal flares and had a fucking marching band attached!”

Mary is the first one to recover, interrupting Morrigan’s tirade.

“I take it your warning to the garrison wasn’t received well,” she says.

“Received well! Received at all more like it!” Morrigan yells even as she stuffs food down her mouth, “Fucking lieutenant was in the front room and wouldn’t even listen to me! I tried to tell him about the attackers but he just blew it off like I was some kind of raving madwoman!”

Nem interrupts, “You were kind of like a raving madwoman, seeing as how you insisted we run most of the way there.”

“Shut up,” says Morrigan sullenly, “I wasn’t acting that crazy.”

“Yes you were,” says Nem.

“No I was…”
>>
>>40788816
“Enough,” says Mary, interrupting the two of them, “The question now should be what we need to do next, not blaming each other.”

“Well, there’s only six…” Mary coughs, “Seven, of us,” says Morrigan, “we can’t stop them ourselves.”

“There’s nearly five hundred people in town,” says Nem, “If we could get even some of them to help us…”

“Yeah but they aren’t organized,” says Sarah, “If we get them in a fight with trained soldiers…”

“They’d be defending their homes,” counters Nem, “they wouldn’t run.”

“We need to get the garrison on our side,” says Bellona, “Fifty armed and trained troops is a lot better than whatever we can scrape up in town.”

“But how?” asks Sarah.

“Maybe I can try to talk some sense into them…” says Mary.

“Yeah but you didn’t see them,” counters Nem, “How could you get them to listen.”

“Well…” says Mary.

A thought flashes through your mind, a face, a kind face that said you could come to him if you needed something.

“I…I could ask Sergeant Jones,” you say into the gap left between Mary, Morrigan and Nem, causing everyone at the table to turn to you.

“Who?” asks Mary.

“He…he was there when they…took me away,” you say, not quite sure how to explain that final attack yet. You were rescued…but you didn’t know you needed rescuing at the time. You’re still barely acknowledging that fact, even now. But it’s not the time to think about that.

“He said that I should come to him if I got in trouble, he said I was a nice kid…” you pause, looking around the table.

You see Cath and Bellona give you a smile, while Morrigan laughs.

“I could see that,” she says, “Alright, we’ll send will and…”

“Cath,” says Mary, “They know Cath is the sane one.”

“Hey…” says Morrigan.

“You and me get pulled in for drunk and disorderly too much Morrigan,” says Nem.

Morrgian grumbles but shuts up.

“So if we can get this sergeant to get the lieutenant to listen…” says Sarah.

“Even if it’s just his men it’ll be a lot of help,” says Mary.

“We should still ask for more help,” you say, looking around since everyone doesn’t seem to mind.

“Will’s right,” says Bellona, “If we can get the garrison and some kind of militia together we’ll have a much better chance of fighting them off.”

“Where would we even go to…” starts Sarah.

“Doc’s,” says Morrigan, causing everyone to look up, “Best place to get the most people.”

“Alright,” says Mary, “Cath and Will head to the garrison again, try to find Sergeant Jones. Morrigan and Nem head to Doc’s. I’ll stay here, get ready for everything…”

“What about us?” asks Bellona, gesturing to Sarah.

Morrigan frowns, thinking.

Ehhh, not feeling the full level of grimderp here. Though this will be Will's largest battle since he got here, right? Some level of PTSD after the fight wouldn't be surprising.
>>
>>40789775
Well, if you want morbid, Cath loses an arm AND a leg, Will has to drag her around, his wounds giving him a severe infection meanwhile Nem got her face torn off by shrapnel, Morrigan gets gunned down after she runs out of ammo, Bell gets crushed under rubble when she takes cover next to a building, Sarah runs away, and we never hear from her again, and Mary gets disemboweled when she gets bayoneted once she's exhausted.

On the other side, Doc gets burned alive when he wont leave his bar, the actual Doctor is stabbed in the back and has his spine severed when aiding the injured, Sgt. Jones gets blown in half shielding a civvie from a grenade, and the rest of the soldiers also get minced by massed fire and explosives.

It could be worse, though. Oh wait, no, it couldn't, because all of Wills' blankets are destroyed.

Cath should ask Will to put her down when she becomes lucid enough to understand her situation and ask him to go find whoever survived.

Will then has to witness or find the results of each persons horrible end.

“You two come with me and Nem,” says Morrigan, as she finishes up the meal that Mary prepared, Nem having scarfed down her share while you were talking, “We’ll need as much help as we can get getting the townsfolk riled up enough to fight back.”

Bellona and Sarah nod, then everyone at the table glances about, nobody talking.

“Alright everyone,” says Morrigan finally, “I know we aren’t getting paid for this one, but we’re fighting for our home just as much as anyone else. Gear up and head out to your assigned tasks. Meet up back here once we’re done, we’ll either have plenty of good news or we’ll be headed out of town, I’m not getting stuck here with nobody alerted for an attach because they’re fucking idiots.”

Everyone else nods, then Morrigan slaps the table.

“Alright, let’s go then.”

Everyone stands, Morrigan and Nem going first, Sarah and Bellona following. Doc’s is just a tad bit farther than the garrison so you and Cath let them go first. Cath glances at you as you wait, you give her a curious look back. She shakes her head as the two of you manage to get into the armory, throwing on your gear and grabbing all your weapons and ammo just as Morrigan and Nem lead the way out, Bellona and Sarah following. You and Cath finally head out and you’re surprised to see Mary giving you a smile as she ducks inside the armory as you leave. You glance at Cath and she just shakes her head.

As the two of you head for the Garrison, Cath takes the lead with you following only a step behind her. As you move through the still partially inhabited streets, the sun finally disappearing underneath the horizon, you hear Cath speak.

“Home,” she says, her voice barely carrying to you despite the close distance, “Want to protect home. Lost…lost two because I was weak. Protect people and place…hurt the bad ones. Protect you and everyone else.”

She glances back at you and you can see her eyes are a bit watery, but you just nod to her in understanding. Cath lost two homes already, so she wants to protect her third one. That makes sense to you. You make good time to the garrison, the main barracks and a few smaller supply ones the only currently used remains of a once large base. As you approach the front door you see a guard, who in turn sees you approaching in full kit and raises his hand as well as his weapon a little bit.

“Halt,” he calls out, Cath and you both slow down and then stop as he starts to look a little nervous.

“What’s your business?” he calls out to you.

You look up at Cath, who looks back to you.

“We…we want to see Sergeant Jones,” you tell the sentry.

“Sergeant Jones is in a meeting with Lieutenant White,” says the sentry, “You’ll have to wait until they’re done or come back later.”

The sentry, from what you can tell, looks pretty firm on his decision.

You really need to get in to talk to Sergeant Jones, you don’t know how long till that enemy force gets here and you’ve been. You have to talk to him, have to let him know so they can get the garrison awake.

“I really need to see him,” you say to the sentry, frustration entering your voice for the first time in…well you don’t know how long. But it’s certainly there now. “I have to see him. There’s a hundred and fifty soldiers coming to attack Fort Riley and we have to protect it!”

By the time you’re done speaking you realize that you’ve raised your voice at the sentry, who appears to be blinking at you in surprise. You look up at Cath who turns and gives you a smile, reassuring you that you did the right thing, a small twinkle in her eye.

“One hundred and fifty?” asks the soldier, his face frowning.

“Yeah,” you say, your voice a bit quieter now, “We found them on our way back from Salina.”

The soldier stares at you for another few seconds before lowering his weapon and nodding inside, “Take the first door on the left, then the second on the right,” he says to you.

You nod, Cath and you heading down the hallway and through the indicated doors. Not bothering to knock, you instead open it and find Sergeant Jones along with two other men in the room. The one with markings similar to Sergeant Jones seems to be on his side, though the one with the silver bar on his shoulders seems to disagree.

“We are not taking the word of some two bit mercenary company commander who came screaming in here like a banshee about an attack Staff Sergeant,” says the man with the bar, “And that’s final.”

“Sir…” starts Sergeant Jones, before turning to see you enter the room.

“Who the…kid,” he says, the other two turning to see you enter the room in full combat gear.

“Who the hell…” starts the bar man, the other man with pointy things on his shoulder turning as well.

“We came to see Sergeant Jones,” you say quietly, unsure between three various gazes, “There’s soldiers coming, a lot of them.” You pause and say quietly, “You said to come if I was in trouble.”

Sergeant Jones turns back to the man with the bar on his shoulders and gestures to you. “Lieutenant,” he says, “I submit respectfully that if this is some kind of joke by a “two bit mercenary company” that they wouldn’t be this insistent about it.”

The lieutenant starts to open his mouth, but the other man in the room, who you notice has two more lines on the bottom and a star in the middle compared to Sergeant Jones, raises his hand, causing the lieutenant to stop.

“You’re sure you saw these men?” he asks you.

You nod to him.

He turns back to the lieutenant. “Lieutenant I respectfully suggest that in line with Staff Sergeant Jones’s reasoning we get the men out of bed and prepared for an attack by a superior enemy force.”

The man with the bar pauses and then finally nods his head. “Fine…Staff Sergeant please go rouse the men and prepare for an attack. Sergeant Major Walker and I will coordinate this…exercise.”

Sergeant Jones salutes the man and then turns to you, giving you a brief nod before moving quickly out the door.
>>
>>40791542

The other man, the one called Sergeant Major, turns to you and Cath once again.

“Anything else you need to tell us?” he asks.

“Morrigan is getting lots of people together at Doc’s…” you say, “And the other guys aren’t too far away…probably.”

You turn to look at Cath, who glances down at your weapon and ten back up to the sergeant.

“And they had a lot of guns and ammo,” you finish.

“Any heavy weapons?” asks the Sergeant Major.

You turn to look at Cath, who shrugs and shakes her head.

“I don’t think so…” you say turning back, not exactly sure what a heavy weapon is in the first place.”

“That’s all then,” says the man, giving you a nod, “You run back to your boss and tell her we’re getting ready, we’ll contact you when we’re ready.”

You nod, Cath and you headed out of the door immediately as you hear voices start up behind you again. Headed back to the MMS building you give Catha bit of a grin. You succeeded in getting the garrison going…now all you have to do is hope it’s enough to protect Fort Riley.

Will technically has seen a few heavy weapons, seeing as how the army had some when he was being processed. He just doesn't have the contextual knowledge to put those things together.

why would Will not know what a heavy weapon is? He must have seen someone using a heavy machine gun or an RPG or some mortars before right?
>>
>>40791765
I mean that Will, with his knowledge gaps, doesn't know the context of "heavy weapon" and therefore didn't quite place it, which is why he had to turn to Cath. He's seen a few HMG's, but no RPG's and no mortars.
>>
