You are Jacob Cassidy. Former fixer for NovaTech. Currently retired and living in Hiezu, a Japanese village with a population of a little under five thousand. More populated than the last place you lived, at least.

You are currently living under the assumed identity of Jacob Vaughn, alongside your wife Cassandra Vaughn. Your 'wife' is actually Sandra Kovacs, the vat grown genetically engineered wife of Alexander Kovacs, who ran away from him and who you decided to run away with to Japan. She's the hottest girl you've ever met, the sex is incredible, and she's dedicated to making you happy (to the point that it's genuinely concerning), so you can't complain too much.

Or couldn't, anyway. You went out to the beach with Sandra, had some fun playing in the water, took a break, and were about to go back into the water when she started to convulse and choke and generally freak out. She's sputtering and coughing, and then she goes still. You check her for a pulse - thank God, she's still alive.

>Take her to the hospital.

There is no risk of this I'm pretty sure. We got our papers in order and everything...

Unless NovaTech intentionally programmed in a glitch (Jurassic Park style), and they are watching for new patients with the symptom.

>>
>>40800996
Neither. Serious injury during your time as a security consultant for NovaTech.
>>
"Fuck, fuck," you hiss, looking at the supine form of the woman you've spent the past month living with. You easily lift her up in your arms, cybernetics complimenting biological strength, and sprint back to Hiezu. The local doctor does some quick check-ups, and then decides that there's nothing he can do but refer you to the hospital for Saihaku District.

"<Does she have any medications, or disorders?>" An EMT asks you, as he takes her vitals in the back of the ambulance.

You stumble over your words, your grasp on Japanese limited and the panic making it hard to remember as much as you need to. "<I not know so,>" you manage. He squints at you, obviously uncertain what you mean. "<I don't know.>"

"<Okay. Mr. Vaughn, she's in stable condition, so there's a good chance of recovery. Did she take any pills or have any regular check-ups prior to this event?>"

"<She didn't take anything or go to a doctor for the past month. I don't know other than that.>"

At the hospital itself, they check her over for signs of epilepsy, based on your reported symptoms. Then they move into a sudden nutritional deficit, possible undiagnosed nerve disorders, and a dozen other things you don't really understand. You sit in the waiting room, not really knowing what else to do. After a couple hours, the doctor comes out. "<Do you have information on your wife's family?>"

"<She is not on good terms with them,>" you deflect.

"<We believe her condition is genetic in nature, and that recent lifestyle changes have made it flair up. It seems to be a unique problem, based on what we understand.>" He launches into a clinical explanation, but you don't speak Japanese well enough to understand, so he comes back to the point quickly. "<This is a chronic issue, not an acute one. We need to know what changed.>"

"<I see. Give me a moment,>" you say, and step outside without a second thought to the doctor. You head down to the gift store and buy a cheap phone there, using it and calling up an old friend of yours. Marcus McDowell, a biologist back in NovaTech. Hopefully he'll have at least *some* awareness of the issue.

"Jacob? Shit," he says, drawing that word out. "Is that you? I heard you kidnapped Sandra Kovacs and fled the country?"

"...no," you say, after a moment. "That's not what happened."

You give him the rough story, and he grunts along. When you get to the medical issue, he lets out a whistle. "Shit, man. No idea. Sandra was made by Loveless International, totally unrelated to my firm. They've got a trade secret methodology for growing people. By your story, I would guess it causes some nutrient deficiency. I'd guess she was getting monthly shots or something, but I couldn't tell you what."

"So... you've got nothing."

"Ask somebody there," he says, then snorts. "Oh, right, yeah, they think you kidnapped her. Look, I can't help you, man. I don't grow people personally, and we aren't in the waifu business here in NovaTech proper, so I don't know shit about what the exact problem is."

"Dammit," you grunt. "Thanks anyway, man," you add. "God bless."

"You too." He snorts. "You did good, picking up Sandra. Always thought she was hot."

"I'm hanging up now," you say, and turn off the phone. Shit.

You return to the doctor, giving him a forlorn look. "<I'm sorry. I'm going to have to go speak to a relative of hers in person. Is she stable?>"

The doctor tilts his head to one side. "<It's hard to say. There might be a problem... but I don't think so. Her condition seems stable.>"

"<I'll be back as soon as I can,>" you say, rushing out the door. The nearest LI lab is a little over two hours away by train, but it's the best chance to making sure that she can live a healthy, real life. The poor girl's been screwed over enough by life as it is. When you get to Okayama, your whole body is tense, and you make your way to the laboratory in question. It's currently late, and there shouldn't be more than a night guard or two.

It's imposing, but not so imposing that it scares you. You pull on the jacket, gloves, and balaclava you prepared for this exact purpose, and begin scaling the walls, planning to enter by a second story window. Your best chance is to break in and find some relevant medicine. Can't be too hard - they'll need the things for common use. You climb up to the second story, smash in a window with a cybernetic arm...

And there your troubles begin. A doctor, apparently having decided to stay late, gets a face full of glass right in the face, falling to the ground, gasping and panting. Shit. No time to deal with this. You grab him, pulling him face to face with you. "Where's-" you stop yourself. "<Where is medicine for girls?>" You ask, your voice hoarse.

He goes limp in your hands. Fainting, from shock or blood loss. Shaking him accomplishes nothing. Fuck.

>Wait for him to wake back up.

You step up to the computer, hurriedly typing before it goes to sleep. Medicine. Medicine. Pills. Supplements? You try a half-dozen keywords, looking for something, anything, relevant to your plight. Finally, you find it, or you think you do, anyway. It's hard to read, because it's all in Japanese, but it looks like the 'secret ingredient' to keeping Sandra alive is kept downstairs in the filing room, marked with the words "Dietary Supplements, Class XC-11."

You rush downstairs, bashing open the door to the room in question, ripping open the drawers until you find the one with the necessary 'dietary supplements' - small vials containing a grey-green liquid. By the design of their containers, you think they're for injections. You hurriedly stuff as many as you can get into your jacket.

You hear sirens outside, and the sound of a police officer shouting through a megaphone. "<This is the police.>"

Fucking shit. You try to make your way towards the back, but through the windows you can see that the police have the entire building surrounded. Did the doctor wake up and call the cops? Fuck.

Shit. You grab a bunch of other stuff, as much as you can, stuffing it into one container and keeping it under your arm. You'll dump it later, whatever. You rush back up the stairs, towards where the doctor's passed out form is. You spot the security guard there, trying to wake up the doctor. You kick him in the face, sending him sprawling, step up to the computer, and delete all the history that you can.

You rush up the stairs, leaving the groaning security guard on the floor, making your way to the rooftop, kicking open the locked door. The next building over is two stories taller, at least. You make a running jump, and...

Just make it, smashing through glass, getting to hear the screams as everybody turns to look at you. You keep going, running for it, weaving, dodging, avoiding the police. After what feels like an hour of running, you're finally no longer being followed, and you take off your balaclava and gloves. You dump the medicine into a sewer opening, vial by vial, before heading home, still carrying dozens of vials of the medicine Sandra needs.

The train journey passes uneventfully, at the very least. You hand over a vial to the doctor, and tell him the dosage. "<Two grams once month,>" you explain. "<No dosage last month.>"

He takes the vial from you, nodding, heading over to handle Sandra. You sit down and wait. A few minutes later, you hear her speaking, positively flipping out. "<Where is my husband? Where is Jacob?> Jacob?! Jacob, help! Jacob!" You quickly head over to her room, and she calms almost immediately upon seeing you, the tension leaving her shoulders, and she gives you a soft smile.

"Sandra," you say, stepping forward to her bedside, taking her hand in your mechanical fingers, "why didn't you mention your medical needs to me?"

"Medical needs?" She furrows her brow, obviously confused.

"You need a once-monthly injection or... well, this happens. You started convulsing and then passed out. Why didn't you tell me? This would have been a lot easier if I had known this was coming."

She just blinks. "I... I don't know-" she pauses. "Oh. I..." she curls up a little. "I didn't realize those shots were necessary. I'm sorry. Please don't be angry with me, Jacob. If I had known, I would have told you."

"Fine," you say, sighing. "Okay. Sandra. Please, do not freak out around doctors. They were helping you. Flipping out like that is not good." You sit down next to her, holding her hand in yours, and her slender fingers slip and slide around your mechanized ones. "<How long does she need stay here?>" You ask the doctor.

"<We'd prefer to keep her overnight for observation. You can stay with her, if you'd like.>"

You decide to. After that little incident, you're freaked out enough that you don't want to let Sandra out of your sight any more than is absolutely necessary. She tries to cuddle you, but it's awkward, with her in the hospital bed and you sitting in your chair. Still, her arms wrap around yours, her firm breasts pressing into them, her fluttering eyelashes obviously trying to tempt you. You just focus on books, asking her what she thought of the one that she read earlier. The night passes, and she's released, letting you carry her bridal style out of the hospital, heading back towards your little coastal home.

When you get there, you can't help but feel a bit anxious. If this happened, what else could?

>>
>>40803573
Well this has been pretty interesting I suppose. Are you planning on running any longer lasting quest?
>>
You dig in, making daily adjustments to how your house is laid out and the surrounding land. Getting line of sight in 360 degrees. Making it impossible to approach by vehicle, forcing people to walk. You keep it up, making more and more changes, intent on defending against the inevitable attack by NovaTech, dead set on collecting back company property.

It never comes, curiously enough. You're left alone, with your new wife and your new life. They never find you. You manage to convince Sandra to take on enough hobbies and interests of her own that you feel satisfied that she has a life outside of being a housewife. She goes out on her own, buying books at the store; she has friends of her own, other ladies in town. You learn Japanese to fluency, and she talks like a native speaker after just a few short months.

Life is good. You've even heard that Alexander Kovacs has remarried, a new bottle baby wife, named Lisette. You think he gave up on looking for Sandra a long time ago, when it became clear that she ran away, rather than being kidnapped. Hopefully this new one will be happier with a life as his bride, but it's really nothing you can concern yourself too much with.

When Sandra announces her pregnancy, fourteen months into your 'marriage,' you couldn't be happier, and neither could she.

It's a pleasant retirement, and a pleasant life. By the time you run out of "XC-11," the trade secret is out, and it's simple enough to buy it online.

Thanks for reading, I hope you've enjoyed. I do miss running shorter stuff like this so I might do something in the future.

I run one on Anonkun, San Josafat Quest. (It's hiatus'd for this week, but I plan on bringing it back on Monday.) I have a few ideas for other long ones I'm toying with, though no guarantees on any in particular.

Thanks for running, Tartarus. It was an enjoyable ride while it lasted.

Worm AU quest. Poor but smart and charismatic kid get's his powers activated when some punks beat him up and threaten him with a knife. From there he becomes a supervillian who's in it for the money and not really that evil, despite his powers having a taste for human flesh, which he desperately tries to control and curb.

Got any advice for an aspiring QM?

Undecided.

Currently running San Josafat Quest. It had a rocky start - the first few sessions were a mess - but I think it's hit its stride. Basically, you're a poor who got superpowers and became a low-level villain.

Past quests are... I ran a lot of past quests. Here are the "notable" ones:

Serpentine: you know how reptilians secretly run the world? You are a teenage reptilian.
Faerie (Anonkun): you're a retarded slut faerie who winds up becoming aforementioned reptilian's slut.
Teacher's Pet: fuck your teacher and call her your slave, after 2-3 threads of cockteasing.
Cyberpunk Kidnapper: you kidnap a girl and she gets maximum attachment moded to you.
Incubator: first time QM stuff. Not very good imo, but notable.
Sick With Love: honestly one of my favorites, you're a psycho yandere girl in love with a boy.

Your first quest absolutely should not be your baby, holy shit am I glad that I dodged that bullet with Incubator. I'd recommend avoiding anything long-lasting, too, until you get some experience. Long quests are different from short ones, but a lot of the lessons carry over and it's easier to "fix" a short quest (by killing it) than a long one.

Other stuff:
- players will turtle if you let them, don't. More generally, they will engage in lots and lots of risk-averse behaviors. Avoid punishing players for not overspecifying! If something bad happens to players because of their decisions, try to always make it because of something they DID do, rather than because of something they DIDN'T. You don't want to encourage that behavior more than you have to.
- unless your players do something incredibly retarded (and even then, hesitate) don't start killing characters. it encourages turtling and leads people to quit the quest.
- people like social interaction and action, you should have a mix of both in both your high concept and your threads themselves.

What about the vampire, assassin and dictator ones?

What are some of the long and short running idea you have?

Long running:
Reprisals. You are a thirty year old sworn virgin. Desperate to finally avenge your father, you risk being executed for heresy to reach the isle of Isast. You are granted succor by the forgotten gods of old, but they have their own agenda...

Dheljos variant. Remove the idea of a 'dheljos,' but keep most of the world-building. High tech post apocalypse with magic. I was thinking the protagonist might be a vampire who is unhealthily attached to someone.

Short:
Durance. You got kidnapped by a fae and you're being tortured in the Faerie and have to escape.
(Plus a bunch of older ideas I probably won't use.)

Whatever happened to Dheljos anyways?

>the protagonist might be a vampire who is unhealthily attached to someone

Vampire? Could it be anything else? or let the power set be up to the players? Of course gender would be set to avoid the shitstorm over it.

I've always wanted to try out something along the lines of Changeling: The Lost.
>>
>>40804304
It had a terminal case of Go Nowhere-ism.

>>40804305
I like the vampire concept. It would probably be a variant, not necessarily a classic bloodsucking vampire. A flesh-eating anthropophage, or a soul-sucker, or something.
