You are Sallazar, a young wizard who has recently left the army. You have taken a teaching job at Egwen Girls Convent.

In addition the Headmaster of the school wants you to run the schools adventurers club, to give some of the schools more...unusual...girls something fun to do.

With the terms and the time set for the race, you head back to school. Phaysis is sure to win this race and then that arrogant elf bitch will have to join your club.

You briefly toy with the idea of making her clean the club-room wearing just an apron, then dismiss it. As fun as that might be, the most important thing is the skills she can teach your girls, not putting an arrogant elf bitch in her place.

She’s here for Phaysis benefit; not for that of your wizardly pride- dammit!

You stop suddenly in the road up to the school, you forgot to ask Phaysis if she is ok with racing (and possibly humiliating) her new trainer.

If you run there will be enough time to ask her before her next lesson (you think).
---
Somewhat out of breath, you catch Phaysis before she goes into her last lesson of the day.

“Phaysis” you say, gasping “I need, whew, I need to catch my breath” you take a moment as girls wander past you, giving you curious looks.

“Yes sir?” Phaysis wait politely for you to speak, a curious look on her face.

When it’s just the two of you in the corridor outside you say to her “Phaysis I need your help with something.”

“Of course sir” says Phaysis, her hands clasped in front of her “with what?”
>>
“I need you to run across a lake and retrieve a flag” you say

“Ummm, what?” asks Phaysis, her brow wrinkling in confusion.

You take a deep breath “There’s an elf ranger that I want to be a trainer for the club but she’s an arrogant bi- er she’s very proud and she doesn’t want to be a trainer so I used her pride against her and got her to agree to a race and if you beat her she’ll teach you ranger stuff.”

Phaysis looks even more confused “What? I mean, what, sir?”

You explain everything to her, after taking moment to control your breathing.

“So if I understand this correctly sir” says Phaysis, giving you a rather sceptical look “You want me to trick and humiliate an adult you intend to put in a position of authority over me in the hopes that she will teach me skills including weapons use?”

When she puts it like that....

How do you respond?

>This can’t possibly go wrong, trust me
>She’s the best trainer I could find, and she’ll be mad at me, not you
>I’ll give you extra credits if you put that elf bitch in her place
>Actually, I may call the race off (go speak to the elf again)
>Other (what?)

You try to explain your scheme, whilst still breathing deeply “She was, whew, she was the best trainer I could find to teach you ranger skills Phaysis, and if anything, she’ll be mad at me, not you.”

“I guess so” she sounds unsure, but seems unwilling to challenge you on it “if you say its for the best sir.”

“It is” you reassure her.

“Very well sir” she says “I will see you later this evening.”

That evening you head out to the lake, carrying with you a couple of small flags on poles. Phaysis is with you, as is Evrumine and Calluna – the two saw you and Phaysis heading out and once you explained your plan, decided to tag along.

“So Phaysis has to race her trainer” says Evrumine “do I get to wrestle mine?”

“Maybe” you say tolerantly as the four of you head up to the lake “maybe.”

You round the final bend and you see Taynathil by the lakes edge waiting for you, with that rabid monster in tow.

“That is one big bear” observes Calluna; she keeps walking beside you, as the others pause as they catch sight of the thing.

“Um sir” says Phaysis “are you sure this is safe”.

“Perfectly” you reassure them, as you approach the elf and giant bear.

“Well” says Taynathil, looking at the girls critically “you’ve bought more fools with you I see.”

“Call me a fool all you wish” you say pleasantly, cutting off the girls responses “but please, don’t insult your future students.”

Taynathil simply sniffs at that.

“So, the rules” you say “no teleporting, flying, flying flags or similar. This is speed against speed. No outside interference, otherwise” you say, resisting the urge to smile “you can use whatever abilities you have.”

Taynathil says “and the flags?”

You show them to her, and them with a flourish you teleport to the other side of the lake with them, plant them both in the ground a few feet apart and teleport back.

“On your marks” you say to Taynathil and Phaysis “get set...”
>>
“Crush her!” Evrumine suggests to Phaysis. Calluna is wandering down to the waters edge.

“Go!” you yell, and they’re off!

You hate to admit it, but Taynathil is an excellent runner, setting off at speed as her bear paces restlessly.

Phaysis is much slower, but heads for the water as instructed, turning into her nightmare form as she gets there, and then racing over the surface. Her long dress is transformed into some sort of dressage on her horse form.

Phaysis is halfway across the water before Taynathil has run a fifth of the distance she needs to, by your estimation. This is going to be an easy win!

Beside you, Evrumine cheers and whoops.

Then something goes wrong, Phaysis stumbles, how can she stumble on a calm lake?

“Oh look” says Calluna “spiky fish.”

You and Evrumine share a look and head down to the lake; you hear the bear ambling behind you.

You squint and can just make out some sort of large fish with horrible toothed maws biting at Phaysis’ hooves and legs. So far she’s avoided harm, but she’s slowed down, a lot.

You’re not sure what’ll happen to her if she fall over on water, will she simply get up? Or sink underwater?

And those fish look capable of doing some damage: each is as long as your arm and has wicked teeth.

You need to do something, but if you do anything obvious, then you could get caught cheating, and Phaysis loses.

What do you do?

You hold back, you can’t just jump in when one of your students gets in trouble, you’ve got to let them handle it.

You prepare to cast your dimension door spell in case Phaysis gets in trouble. Reaching out to that distance could be tough, but you’ll manage it, you hope...

Phaysis leaps and runs, kicking out at the fish when they jump out of the water at her, and doing her best to get some distance from them.

Beside you Evrumine is yelling curses and insults, and Calluna...is crouched by the water, dabbling her fingers in it, her tentacles emerging from her sleeves, what is she doing?

Phaysis takes a few bites but doesn’t seem too badly hurt by the time she races ashore. She leans her head down, tugs the flag out of the ground, and then with the short pole in her teeth, races out over the water once again.

You see dark shapes as schools of fish head after her but Phaysis sees them too and races and dodges, keeping ahead of them.

Finally, just as the elf is approaching the flag on the other side of the lake, Phaysis gallops up to you and drops the flag at you feet, looking pleased with herself.

“Are you ok?” you ask, as she slowly changes back into human form.

Phaysis nods, breathing heavily “just a few bites sir” she says “nothing serious.”

She rubs at her wrist, and you see a thin trickle of blood staining her sleeve.

“Well” you say “see the school cleric when we get back, anyway”

“Yes sir” says Phaysis, as Evrumine tries to inspect her wounds.

The stinking bear gives a low grumble; across the other side of the lake you can see the elf collect her flag, and head back, at a slow jog.

Well, when she gets here...

“Calluna” you say, calling her back from the water’s edge “can you try and heal Phaysis’ wounds?”

“Oh yes, of course” says Calluna, heading over. She pulls Phaysis’ sleeve up and examines the shallow bite, tracing the edges delicately and slowly with her fingertips, as if fascinated by the injury.

Then under her touch the wound fades into a pale scar, and then nothing. Phaysis gives a small shiver, and looks a little creeped out.

The bear just watches you as you wait for the elf, and Evrumine...watches the bear, as if expecting it to attack you. You don’t think it will, but you have your Spell Mantle ready just in case.

“I’m impressed” you say as the elf jogs up “not many would even have given Phaysis a challenge.”

Taynathil gives you a suspicious look, clearly sensing mockery. But you keep your smile on your face, hiding your less charitable thoughts. You really want to chew her out for that stunt, but you mustn’t sour her relationship with Phaysis.

Out of the corner of your eye you see Calluna heading back down to the water.

Taynathil turns to Phaysis “You are wise to use your abilities in such a way” she says, sounding a little forced “training you will indeed be interesting.”

Phaysis gives you a worried look, you nod encouragingly. She gives Taynathil a shallow curtsey “I won’t disappoint you, Trainer Taynathil” she says.

“Well” says Taynathil, almost sounding approving “perhaps at least one of you can be taught respect for the natural-”

“I got one!” crows Calluna, a slippery fish held firmly in her hands and tentacles. It thrashes and twists, trying to get away, or maybe just bite her, its jaws gaping.

“What are you doing?” asks Taynathil, giving Calluna a cross look.

“Its mine!” says Calluna “I’m going to call him Mr Pogostus.”
>>
There’s a pause as you all think about that.

“We can’t have pets at the school” says Phaysis

“We can with permission” says Calluna, looking at you pleadingly.

“Put that back!” says Taynathil “you’re suffocating it.”

“Am not!” argues Calluna

“Calluna, fish can’t breathe out of water” says Evrumine, breaking off guarding the bear – which is looking at the fish and licking its chops.

“They can!” disagrees Calluna

“Child, they cannot” says Taynathil “fish are...what are you doing, no, stop that!”

Calluna is holding the weakly snapping fish and concentrating, her eyes close briefly, and then they open again. And the fish seems livelier than ever, thrashing and snapping as if given a new lease on life, or just a breath of fresh air...

Did Calluna change it somehow? You felt some sort of surge of arcane-like energy just now.

Taynathil and her bear are approaching Calluna, Taynathil is scowling. Evrumine is heading for the bear, looking ready to jump. Phaysis is looking to you for guidance as Calluna backs away from the elf, looking scared.

Why Evrumine and a bear? Minotaurs were bovine-themed, IIRC.

“Calluna” you say, walking over to her and placing yourself between her and the elf and her fleabag companion “Calluna, what did you do?”

Calluna looks fearfully over your shoulder “I just helped him learn” she says, her face paler than usual “he can breathe air now.”

“Can he still survive in water?” asks Phaysis, standing next to a puzzled-looking Evrumine.

Calluna pulls a face “of course” she says in a *this is obvious* tone of voice “he didn’t forget how, he just knows how to breathe air now.”

“Let me-” Taynathil glares at you as you smoothly block her when she tries to step around you “I just want to examine it” she says “I’m not going to harm the...young girl.”

Calluna looks at you questioningly, you nod and she holds out her fish for Taynathil to examine.

Taynathil touches the now quiet fish briefly and then screws up her face in disgust “aberration” she says “it’s a corruption of the natural order, it needs to be destroyed.”

“No!” yells Calluna, hugging the rather ugly-looking thing to her.

“Can’t it be changed back?” You ask, looking between Calluna and Taynathil.

Taynathil shrugs “a significant working of magic” she says “a druid could I suppose, but safer to just dispose of it.”

Calluna just looks confused “how?” she asks.

“Aren’t rangers supposed to be about protecting the natural world?” asks Evrumine.

“Things die all the time” says Taynathil “and this is safer”

“But won’t the fishes body be um, a danger?” asks Phaysis “if its a...whatever you called it?”

Taynathil gives a small nod “I’ll burn its remains to ash” she says. Her bear gives a snort and she adds “Amluka could dispose of it too; he’s tough enough to shrug off most unnatural magics.”

The bear licks its chops again.

“No!” yells Calluna, hugging the fish tightly and backing away “you’re not eating Mr Pogostus!”

Kinda, but she could try to minimize how much she warps it, and I'm not willing to punish her or Mr Pogostus for something she doesn't really get as being "wrong".

There's also the issue that the bear would probably get corrupted if it eats it, even if it takes a while due to his resistance. Because Impossibility is bullshit. I doubt the ranger would be willing to forgive her for that, and I don't particularly want to have to throw Taynathil into the sun. Anymore.

“You don’t need to get rid of the fish” you say to Taynathil “let her keep it.”

Taynathil glares at you “it is a blight on the natural order, I know as a wizard you don’t care about that, but I do, and-”

“How much of a blight is it going to be in a fish tank?” you ask, raising an eyebrow “because that’s where it’ll be kept, right Calluna?”

“Yes!” says Calluna happily, stroking her pet fish as it tries to bite off her fingers, and fails.

Taynathil looks down her nose at you “if I catch her with outside...” she makes a throat-slitting motion. You assume that means she’ll kill the fish, because hurting Calluna wouldn’t end well for the elf bitch.

As Taynathil stalks off, with the four-legged furpile following you call after her cheerfully “we have a dungeon-run in two days, it would mean a lot if you came to watch!”

She gives you a rather rude gesture without turning to look at you.

As you head back to the school, Calluna strokes her angry fish, Phaysis walks in silence, looking thoughtful, and Evrumine asks “Sir, can I have a pet too?”

“Sure” you say “just as soon as you find or create a blight on the natural order.”

Evrumine thinks about this “no, I don’t think Chame would make a good pet.”
---
The next day, after the mornings lessons, the Headmaster invites you to take lunch with him.

“Good news” he says, as the two of you dine “the committee and I have reached and arrangement, about your club funding.”

“Oh?” you ask casually, as your inner dwarf rubs its hands together and cackles.

“250 gold pieces as start up funds” says the headmaster “with another 25 gold per term-time week. It’s not much I know, but perhaps you can convince the girls to help you raise funds another way: bakery sales and so on.”

The amount is modest, but its more than you had yesterday.

“Thank you” you say to the Headmaster, as you think about what to spend it on.

Since Corruption is making things the way you think they should be, Impossiblity is probably why she thinks the fish should be able to breath.

You did promise to teach Janrael about abjuration magic, its time you made good on that promise.

You spend most of the rest of your lunch break looking for her, eventually finding her eating alone on the roof, sat on the walls, her food beside her as she stares out into the open sky.

You make enough noise to let her know you’re there, and then you sit down beside her.

“A copper for your thoughts?” you say.

“Just admiring the sky” she says “its so big and open and empty, I could lose myself up there, so far away from the world and all its imperfections.”

Ah, this must be about...

“So, I’ve been meaning to teach you about Abjuration magic” you say “but I’ve been busy these last few days. When is a good time?”

Janrael turns to look at you “Oh uh, I usually have afternoons free on Fourday Sir, is that a good time?”

“It is” you say, thinking of your own schedule, yes, you can fit in a few hours there “the first thing will of course be a spells of protection against evil.”

“Will that be enough Sir?” asks Janrael in that musical voice of hers “I mean, you spell lasted only a couple of hours and you’re a teacher, won’t mine only last a few minutes?”

You pause, your protection against evil spells are good for a couple of days, and even novices can keep them going for several hours.

You think about that as you say “really? I’m sorry, it should have lasted much longer, why didn’t you come and tell me? I would have cast it again; you shouldn’t have just let yourself suffer like that.”

“Oh no sir” says Janrael “A few hours free was more than enough, I just needed some time to steel myself to deal with it, I’m ok now” She says this as she’s eating lunch away from any of the other girls, all alone.

That’s very weird, why’d your spell fizzle out so soon?

“Do you mind if I cast it on you again?” you ask Janrael “I’d like to test something.”

“Of course not sir” says Janrael. Once you cast your spells she relaxes, very slightly, it seems even at this distance the existence of the other girls still plagues her somewhat.

You cast another spell allowing you to see magical energies and stare at her for several minutes as she finishes her lunch, focusing on the arcane energies of your spell rather than the girl.

Janrael gives you slightly worried look, then ignores you, watching the clouds.

Then you see it; your protection spell is unravelling slowly. So very slowly, at its current rate it might only take a few minutes off its expected duration. Why is that?

You look around for other magical sources, anything that could be interfering with your spell, finding nothing.

Except...Janrael is radiating very faint magic, as expected of a Soulborn, could that be it?

Janrael finishes her lunch and stretches spreading her wings, there!

You see a tiny flair of magical energy as she spreads her wings, so tiny you wouldn’t notice if you weren’t focusing on her. It brushes against the protection spell and accelerates its decay...stripping maybe a second off its duration you think.

So, spells on Janrael have a shorter duration by virtue of her magical nature, but not enough to account for what happened.

Perhaps proximity to the other girls has an effect too? But no, she’d need to be close to thousands, tens of thousands of girls, that can’t be it, not on its own.

You need to study this further before you can figure it out.

“Umm, can I go now sir?” asks Janrael, her meal finished. It’s the end of lunch time, she needs to be on her way to her next class you expect.

Your response?

That isn't necessarily covered by the build statement, so mentioning it is required to get an accurate mental image of the character.

“Do you know you disrupt magic Janrael?” you ask

Janrael gives you a puzzled look “do I?”

“Yes” you say “I’m not entirely sure why the spell didn’t last as long as it should have, alonr you shouldn’t-” you shake your head “anyway, yes you do.”

“Oh” she says, looking thoughtful “is that bad?”

“Just...interesting” you say, casting around for a friendlier topic “um, what clubs are you in again?”

“The gardening and walking clubs” says Janrael “I like plants, and I like the outdoors”

Both clubs that keep her away from large groups of the other girls, too.

“Good for you” you say vaguely, you mind still turning this problem over and over, as Janrael leaves.
---
You work hard through the afternoon, as the problem of why Janrael disrupts your spell bubbles away in your mind.

That afternoon, you gather up the members of the adventurers club and head out to the clubhouse with them.

Once they’ve all settled down you say “You’re probably wondering why I’ve called you together again, so soon after the last meeting-”

“One of us is the murderer!” Chame yells out.

You smile tolerantly and wait for the giggling to die down “Well, I don’t know about any murders” you say “but tomorrow the dungeon crew arrives, I thought we might plan for that.”

“Plan how sir?” asks Nevyn.

“Standard dungeon-crawl rules are four participants only” you say “though substitutions are allowed. This is a practise though, so we don’t need to stick to the rules. Plus, assigned roles such as front-line fighter, spellcaster etc might be good, or even just a buddy system where you keep an eye on each other.

The girls all look at one another, Cleya asks you “what do you suggest, sir?”

“Well this is just a practise” you say “so why not just all go in together, but pick your buddies and stick with them.” This statement kicks off an intense discussion as the girls decide who is to be whose buddy.

You hear a knock at the door and say “And as some of you might be aware, Phaysis was essential in helping us get a new trainer, 10 credits to Phaysis.”

Its hard to tell, but you think Phaysis is blushing. You head to the door “Ah, Taynathil, welcome, welcome, come and meet the girls.”

The elf walks in, seemingly uncomfortable in a building and takes off a heavy cloak, thrusting it at you “here” she says, before turning to the girls.

She stops, and licks her lips, looking nervous, probably not used to speaking in front of even small groups after a lifetime of being a loner.

“Hello” she says finally “I’m Taynathil, I will be teaching you, well, some of you. And hopefully the rest can learn some things as well, um.”

She seems a bit lost. You don’t want to take pity on an elf, but...

“Say hello to your new trainer girls” you say

“Hello Trainer Taynathil” they chorus, though it sounds like one of two might have made up some sort of inappropriate nickname for her.

“Now” you say brightly “We were discussing dungeons, and what the girls might find, as well as useful tactics.”

You haul yourself out of bed, still in your night robe, shivering a bit in the cold morning air, the fire in your hearth long burned down. You stumble over to the door, still mostly asleep, and open it. Its the two Daves.

Before you stand a pair of dwarves in rich merchants clothing, wearing iron helmets and with a battle axe each slung across their backs. One has a big brown unkempt beard, the other has a neatly oiled and styled black beard. Tiny gleaming eyes peer at you from under the helmets.

“Oh fuck off” you say, attempting to close the door, Dave sticks his foot in the way.

“Heya Evil Emperor Azar!” says Dave, as the two of them come into your room “How is your plan to take over the world going?”

“Godsdamn its early you bearded fucks” you grumble “it’s not even light out, what in the Hells are you doing here, and since when do you ever rise early?”

The two Daves wander around you room, exploring. Dave takes your warm bed clothes and pulls them right back “huh, teacher at all all girls school and no bed-warmer? Words cannot describe how disappointed I am that you turned out to be an arse-fangler. Still, at least you’ll make some boychum very happy one day I’m sure.”

“Do you even know what they do to teachers who touch the students here” you say, still groggy “Don’t touch that Dave” you say, as he starts examining your staff.

“Here, I fucking missed you mate” says the other Dave, pulling you into a rough hug “you go off to war, you don’t write, you don’t send us back any drow slaves.”

“You wouldn’t know what to do with one” you say, pounding him on the back “so, what can I do for you two idiots, having trouble with basic math again?”

“I earn more in a week than you do in a year” boasts the other Dave “no, we can to see if you want to see a dungeon being built.”

Its early, but you do kinda want to see that. But...you also have lesson plans to do, and breakfast to eat.

“Just let me get dressed” you say, shooing the two Daves out of your room.
---
A short while later you head out across the school grounds where you can see Golems hauling blocks of stone, and goblins jabbering at one another as they argue over the dungeon plans.

In the midst of this are the two Daves giving orders.

You wander over “so how does this actually work?” you ask as the three of you wander across the construction site “I mean, we’ve moved on from guys in costumes right?”

“Oh yes” says Dave “It’s all shadow conjuration now, except some of the boss fights.”

“Hang on” you say “that’s just spell mimicry, how does that even-”

“Its simple” says Dave “we summon up a monster, using the control rods, only the monster isn’t real, just a sort of solid illusion that acts like it is. They’re mostly harmless and can’t really hurt contestants beyond a few bruises if we keep the spells weak enough, but they act like the real thing.”

“Ok, ok” you say, dodging out of the way of a golem “but what if the girls hit one another with their weapons, or get caught by a misaimed spell?”

“Safety field” grunts the other Dave “reduces impacts to a quarter or so, and the harmful effects of most spells, too.”

You nod, impressed a little “So, which quest are we putting them through again?”

“The Trial” says Dave “y’know, the Catacombs, nice easy beginners quest. We’ll be ready by the evening.”

You kinda remember that one, you think.

You spend some time wandering through the roped-off site, watching as the dungeon takes shape around you, and marvelling at the quality of the props they’re putting together.

Then the schools bell tolls and you realise its time for lessons.

In the dungeon
Welcome to the dungeon
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
But you ain't gonna bleed

Welcome to the dungeon
We take it day by day
It's our job to stop you bleeding
For the price you payed
And the very sexy girls
That are trying hard to please
Know they can win the championship
But they won't get it for free
In the dungeon
Welcome to the dungeon
Feel my, my, my serpentine
I, I wanna hear you scream

Welcome to the dungeon
It gets worse here everyday
Some of you look like animals
In the jungle where we play
If you got a hunger for what you see
You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you need to take it from me

[CHORUS]

And when you're deep you never
Ever want to come up, YEAH!

You know where you are
You're in the dungeon baby
You won't die
In the dungeon
Welcome to the dungeon
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the dungeon
Welcome to the dungeon
Feel my, my, my serpentine
In the dungeon
Welcome to the dungeon
Watch it bring you to your
knees, knees
In the jungle
Welcome to the dungeon
Watch it bring you to your
You're going deep down-HA!

The days lessons pass in a blur, and before you know it, it’s after dinner and you’re stood at the entrance to the dungeon, along with the adventurers club, along with twenty or so other students who have come along to watch, curious about all the fuss.

You all stand on the upper floor of a two-story building. Below you is the dungeon itself, and in front of you is a winding staircase leading down.

The Adventurers club is all geared up in borrowed armour from Daves supplies, and carrying borrowed, blunted weapons.

The Daves have been explaining the rules, including the hand signs to get out if a girl is feeling unwell as well as how they judge if a player has been *killed* by a monster or not. Finally, they’re ready to go.

Dave stands as tall as he can, and says in an echoing voice “You have learned well, my friends. Now has come the time of your first trial. You must enter the catacombs which contain Fellmarg’s Tomb. You must seek out and destroy Verag, a foul gargoyle who hides in the catacombs. This Quest is not easy and you must work together to survive. Tread carefully my friends.”

The girls all give him looks ranging from amusement to disgust to confusion.

“Ok, two things” says Nevyn “first, we’re not your friends, second, who the hell is Verag, isn’t that the name of one of the year 3 girls?”

Dave looks a bit perplexed at having to deal with a teenage girl. You don’t want to know what’s going on inside his weird little helmeted head.

“Just head down into the dungeon” you say “clear it out, and if you have any questions, just yell, we’ll hear you.

The girls all look at one another, shrug, and head down the stairs. The Daves activate a control rod, and the floor beneath you turns transparent, allowing you and the other students to watch from above.
>>
“Well, this is going to be interesting” you say quietly. Then one of the Daves taps you on the shoulder, and hands you a set of grey robes and a skull mask. Your old Witch King costume. You did love playing the bad guy, when you were 16 at least.

“Really?” you say. Dave just grins.

Will Sallazar play the Witch King once more?

You are Anlanesa. Friendly and cheerful, you are an ice-elemental Soulborn. You certainly do not embody the *icy* stereotype that many think of ice elemental Soulborn.

You creep down the corridor, with Calluna and Chame close behind. The other four girls went in the other direction when you came down the stairs.

Ahead of you is a corridor that turns to the left at the end, but before it does there is a door in the left hand side of the corridor.

Without you telling her too, Chame pads quietly up to the door and peers through the keyhole, she turns to you with a tiny eyeball on a long stalk coming out of her face.

“Two orcs and a door” she whispers quietly “and a desk with some papers.”

“What do we do?” asks Calluna, standing behind you in the narrow corridor.

You’ve got an axe, Chame has a pair of shortswords, and Chame has a crossbow and a pair of daggers.

You are all wearing light armour, though Chame keeps pulling at hers, seemingly uncomfortable.

What do you do?

“Chame on the celing” you say “Calluna one side of the door, I’ll be the other side. Calluna turns the whole room dark, and then we hit the orcs when they come out.”

“Ok” says Chame, and starts up the wall.

“Right” says Calluna. Once you’re all in position you throw open the door and the two orcs turn to look at you, just as the whole room is covered in darkness, the doorway now appearing as a black door-shaped hole.

The orcs bellow and you hear running feet, followed by a loud crash, and more bellowing, then the clash of steel on steel.

“Did they just start fighting each other?” asks Calluna

You shrug and Chame says “I guess we wait this one out?”

The sounds of combat and bellowing blots out most other sounds, but you spot out of the corner of your eye, a small green face peer round the corner at the end of the corridor, and then disappear again.

Oh great, the noise is attacking monsters, and if that goblin gets away, it could draw more down on you.

Eh, even without it, it's not like she's a bad frontliner. HP is a bit lacking, but 3 Natural DR is pretty good at this level, especially since that should increase to 5 DR total from light armor. We also got the only character with healing powers, which complements the DR-type tank the best.

“Lets go! Calluna drop the darkness” you yell as you charge at the black wall filling the doorway. It disappears just as you’re about to hit it.

You burst into the room with Calluna on your heels, as Chame stays on the ceiling.

The room is a wreck; a wooden desk has been reduced to splinters, as has a bookcase. In the midst of the wreckage two orcs are rolling around on the floor punching each other.

You and Calluna pause, as a crossbow bolt flies past and buries itself in the back of one of the orcs.

The orc rears up in pain and Calluna lashes out her shortsword – as she hits the orc, it dissolves into nothing.

The other orc rolls over, heading for its abandoned sword a few feet away. You race after it and bring your axe down hard. The orc dissolves bloodlessly under your strike.

“Was that it?” asks Calluna, sounding disappointed “I thought they’d put up more of a fight.”

“Hey a wins a win” says Chame, using a hand-crank to pull her crossbow string back.

“Well” you say, turn to face both Chame and Calluna “I guess this *is* just a training dungeon after all, and-Chame look out!”

Your yell comes too late and a fits slams into Chame hard, she remains of the ceiling but her eyes cross, its clear she felt that.

[Chame HP 4/5]

Standing just underneath Chame is a towering humanoid figure all wrapped in bandages. It lets out a low moan and pulls back a fist to ponderously swing at Chame again.

Behind it is a tiny green figure holding a shortbow, and aiming at Chame.

Not every weapon uses agility. In fact, most melee ones don't, or use the better of agility or strength.

The 1 point difference in defence isn't really a big deal, since it'd only matter one in every twenty times we're attacked.

3 DR beats the hell out of 6 extra HP, especially at this level.

The 2 point edge in tohit and damage with most melee weapons while in Centaur form is considerable, but the DR edge is incredibly good.
>>
“Get the goblin!” you yell to Calluna as you charge the bandaged figure.

“Chame, get back!” you yell as you swing your axe at the figure. Chame retreats along the ceiling, shaking her head to clear it.

You hit it dead in the chest as turns to take a slow swing at Calluna and misses. Ow, dammit! That felt like hitting a stone wall, your hands feel numb. It turns back to face you as Chame and the goblin both take their shots. Chames shot hits the bandaged figure in the head with little effect, and the goblins arrow hits Chame, but she only looks annoyed.

Calluna catches up with the goblins as it back-peddles and stabs it with her sword, it dissolves with a shriek.

Now its the three of you vs the bandaged figure. You are in front of it, and Calluna is behind it.

Chame is behind you on the ceiling. You and Calluna attack it one after another, forcing it to keep turning to respond to you.

Its slow swings are easy to dodge, but you have a feeling getting hit by those fists would hurt, a lot.

Your attacks don’t seem to hurt it much, but maybe you can wear it down.

“Why won’t it die!” complains Chame, winching back her string for the third time.

“Distract it!” you yell to Calluna and Chame as you focus on covering the wall next to you in ice.

Calluna keeps slashing at it and retreating, keeping out of its way, even as Chame drops down and takes your place, poking at it with her daggers.

As the two of them keep its attention you place your hands on the icewall, you know you can draw strength out of water and ice....somehow.

The wall of ice shrinks and disappears under your touch as you feel yourself growing, and growing, and growing, until you have to stoop to avoid your head hitting the ceiling.

You feel like you fill the whole corridor as you say in a voice like a cracking glacier “Ok, my turn.”

Chame and Calluna get some distance as you step forwards and hammer at the bandaged man with your massive fists.

You only need to hit it a few times and then it collapses and dissolves.

“Yes!” says Calluna, doing a victory dance “take that Mr No-Life!”

Chame turns to you an says “Wow Anlanesa I didn’t know you could do tha-hahahahaha!” she breaks off, laughing so hard tears are forming in her eyes.

What could she be? Oh no, oh nonomo!

You quickly over yourself with your hands as best you can. It seems your ice giant form doesn’t replicate clothes or armour.

Still, at least there’s no details either – your chest and um, lower regions are as smooth as a dolls.

You just hope no one saw that, you’d never live it down...

And that’s it for today. Thanks for playing, and next thread is in 12 hours.

For your actions today you gain 2XP for the main character, and 5 for the club.

Thanks for the in-thread feedback; I am taking a note of it for future dungeon-crawls.

I also have a proposal for you.

I have invited someone to do a one-off mini-quest, similar to Junior Paladin at the end of a thread, sometime in the future.

It would be a PoV shift, the quest would be through the eyes of one of the students (chosen by the temporary QM).

As a defence against things going astray I would retain the option to declare it non-canon/a dream/whatever.

Would anons be interested in such a thing?

Comments and feedback appreciated.

I cannot stay for long, but I will read the thread in the morning.
