Please no.

*poke* *poke*
“Saif”
*swat* *swat*
“Mew”

Come on, not now guys. You fucking died last night. Can’t you at least enjoy some sleep?

Kyla starts shaking you, and Moriarty paws at your face with his claws out.

“I hate you both, so much right now” You say, opening your eyes and sitting up, causing Moriarty to fall into your lap.
“Good morning to you too” Kyla says bluntly.

You wipe the sleep from your eyes with one hand, and scratch Moriarty’s chest with the other, causing him to struggle adorably against your affections. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?” You ask.

“Hungry”
“Meeew”

You lift Moriarty up by the scruff and hand him off to Kyla, tossing your blanket on the coffee table and throwing your legs over the edge of the couch. They feel alright now, despite the pain you felt last night.

“Alright, alright” You say. “Cat food okay?”
“Meeeeerrrrrr” Moriarty says, swatting Kyla’s face a few times.
“Ow! Hey, stop that!” Kyla says.

“Guess not” You say. “All I really have that qualifies as breakfast is cereal, is that good?”
“It will suffice” Kyla says.

You nod and head into the kitchen, laying out both Moriarty’s food as well as a bowl of cheerios for you and Kyla.

Kyla sits down at the table and eyes her food for a few moments before picking up her spoon and eating some. “Shatishfactory” She says with a mouthful of cereal.
“Glad to hear it” You reply, getting to work on your own bowl.

“Sho…” Kyla says, stopping to actually swallow her food before continuing. “How did it go last night?”

“I lost an arm, died, came back, knocked The Witch out, and then The Builder busted my chain” You say.
“How’d it happen?” She asks.
“The chain?” You ask.
“How did you die?” She clarifies.

“Oh” You say. “I drowned in oil”
“I see… That doesn’t sound so bad” She says.
“I’m gonna have to disagree with you there” You say.
“It could have been worse” She says. “What was the arena like?”
“Grated metal floors dotted with torches as far as the eye could see, with oil above and below” You say.
“Then it could have been much worse” She says. “You could have burned”

“That does not make me feel better” You say.
“All I’m saying is-“
“Can we please not talk about that part of the night?” You ask. “Literally every other part is okay”
“Oh… okay” She says. “So… did anything else happen?”

Well I figured out how to beat the Butcher's cleaver.

Just wear a wetsuit.

No exposed skin for it to touch, and it can't cut through anything else.
>>
>>40995402
Except the butcher's cleaver went through chain we had wraped around our arm....
>>

No, Smiley said it managed to slip between the chain an touch our arm.

maybe something else, something that won't cause you to overheat in less than 2 minutes.
>>
“Well, the butcher lobbed off my arm” You say. “I have a few questions about that”

Kyla gives you a curious look, unable to answer with a mouth full of cereal.

“I’ll just ask” You say. “I thought that the Cleaver had to actually cut through flesh”
“It does” She says. “What happened?”
“It just kind of… touched me, and boom! Arm gone” You say.

Kyla’s expression sours. “The Butcher must have loaded more into it than he did last time” She says.

You stare at her for a moment. “That could use an explanation” You say.
“The Boons can be more powerful if the God that made them pours more energy into it” She says. “If The Butcher put more in than he did before, the Cleaver will be stronger”
“So why does the description of it say that it has to part flesh?” You ask.

“Because the descriptions are a base-line” She says. “The Cleaver will still have the rule that it can’t cut anything but flesh, though"
"So any of the items can be more powerful than I believe them to be?"
"More, or less" She says. "Probably more. You should be careful. Especially around The Butcher"

“Maybe not” You say. “Before I died, they cut their own arm off to spite me”
“Why?” She asks.
You shrug, unwilling to revisit your time under the oil

“Well, that’ll handicap them” She says. “But the arm will be back”
“Really?” You ask. “How?”
“How do you think?” She asks.
“Magic?” You ask.
“Magic” She says.

>[1/2]
>>
>>40995750
It's magic, I ain't gotta explain shit.

Enchanted wetsuit, then.

Just wear a full outfit with actual sleeves, and some gloves.

The point is, don't let the cleaver touch your skin and it can't take you apart.
>>
>>40995780
Maybe surgical gloves. Those extend pretty far up the arm, if you stretch them. Or opera gloves? Can guys wear those?

Chainmail would also be nice, but that has the same heat problems.
>>
>>40995849
>BDSM wear, insulated for safety reasons

Oh, the enemy will fear us.
>>
“And you can’t tell me anything at all about it” You say.
“Not a damn thing” She says.

You sigh. “Well, something good came out of last night” You say.
“Whash rhad?” Kyla asks, her mouth once more full of cereal.

“I took a bit of a gamble entering the Arena when I did” You say. “I was waiting to see if The Scholar entered first, but they didn’t”
“So why did you go in then?” She asks.
“I had a thought” You say. “That maybe they were doing the same thing”
“Did they go?” She asks.
“They did. They even helped me out against Stoneha-… err… The Creator” You say.
“That’s good news” She says. “If you can get them alone, maybe you could formalize an alliance”

“And speaking of help” You say. “When I was up against The Builder, I think The Traitor lent me a hand”
“What makes you say that?” She asks.
“Well, we were fighting” You say. “And then when he stepped onto one of the solid platforms, his shadow grabbed him from behind”
“That’s The Traitor all right” She says. “Maybe you could get with them too. Seeing as how if you want to go into the Arena this week you’ll probably be running into them”

“That’s true” You say. “They seem friendlier than Stonehan- I mean The Creator”
“You can call them what you want” She says. “I won’t take offense”

You finish up your breakfast and put the bowls in the sink. You’ll have to wash those… eventually.

You don’t really have time for that now. You head over to the couch and push it towards the balcony door to make room for your morning exercises.

Satisfied with your space, you get to work.

“What are you doing?” Kyla asks.
“Morning warm-up” You say.
“Why?”
“Because I’m about to spend the next few hours glued to a desk, so I need to move around while I can” You say. “You should join me. Maybe you could get some muscle on those arms”
“My arms are perfectly fine the way they are” She says.
“Kyla, people are going to think I’m starving you, you’re so scrawny” You say.

Kyla holds out her arms and tries to flex her biceps. She puts a solid effort into it, but the substance isn't there.

You raise an eyebrow and flash her a wry grin.
“Okay, fine. My body could use some work” She says. “Temporary as it is”
“Temporary or not, you’re still working with it for a while” You say, waving her over.

Kyla rolls her eyes, but she still comes over.

>[1/2]
>>
You take Kyla through each of the different stretches and poses in turn.

It’s not a complicated routine by any stretch of the word, but you still have to make sure she’s doing it properly. Temporary as it may be, she still needs to take care of her body. And that means not accidentally injuring it while exercising.

It takes a full hour to go through your usually fairly short workout.

“That wasn’t so bad” She says.
“It’s usually faster than that” You say. “I expect to see sweat tomorrow. No excuses”
“I have to do this again?” She asks.
“Yep” You say. “Every day”

Kyla’s face drops. “E-every day?” She asks.
“Every. Last. One” You say cheerfully.

She mumbles something under her breath, as you ignore her and go get dressed.

Looking through the stuff in your dresser, you start to think that Safi may be right. Your wardrobes is kind of a one-trick-pony right now. But you’ll live with it. Partially because you like to wear what’s comfortable, and partially because it looks like the next while is going to be financially stressing…

“Alright, I’m off” You say.
“What? Already?” She asks.
“Well, yeah” You say, checking your watch. “School starts in 30 minutes. I like to get there with some time to spare”
“Well… what am I supposed to do?” She asks.

That’s… a good question.
She can’t come with you. You don’t really want to let her wander about…

You hem and you haw about what she can do with her time, until an idea comes to you.

You walk back to the couch and pull your laptop out from underneath it.
“Alright, there isn't much here but…” You say, leaving the laptop open on the coffee table. “You can watch what’s there, I guess”

“What is it?” She asks.
“My anime collection” You say. “I don’t tend to keep older stuff, since I can get it all off Yui, but there should at least be enough there to keep you occupied”

Kyla sits down at the couch and stares at you laptop.

“How does it work?” She asks.
“You’re kidding” You say.

Kyla gives you a blank look.

You sigh. “Alright. I’ll show you the basics” You say.

You run Kyla through the process of using the trackpad and interacting with folders and files.

“I’m glad I found this out now” You say. “Someone would definitely think something was up if a 14 year old didn’t know how to use a computer”
“Is it that weird?” She asks.
“In this day and age? Absolutely” You say. “I’ll have to go a bit more in depth later”

“So what are these?” She asks.
“Those are the shows” You say.
“I know, but what are they?” She asks. “I mean what are they about?”

Ugh. Probably easier to just pick one and let her take it from there… You don’t really have anything but the stuff you’ve watched recently on here… let’s see…

You queue up the first episode of Durarara!

There are a few others you’d like to show her, like bebop or dandy, but Yui is the one who keeps the collection. You’ll have to ask her if she can bring her hard drive around next time she comes over.

“Is this good?” She asks.
“Pretty good” You say. “Just watch it, and if you don’t like it you can try one of the other ones”
She purses her lips and looks at the computer with disdain. “Okay” She says.

“Alright then…” You say. You leave Kyla to her business and walk over to the phone. You still have a home phone, because Boss pays a few of your bills and he insists that you keep one. It comes in handy from time to time, like right now.

You pull out a sticky note and write your cell number down on it. “You know how to use a phone right?” You ask.
“That I do know” She says.
“My cell number is on a note here beside the phone. Call me if you need something” You say. “I’ll come back at lunch or after school before I go to work to check in on you”

“I’m not a kid” She says.
“Could’ve fooled me” You say.

Kyla turns around and sticks her tongue out at you.

You chuckle. “See you later” You say.
“See you” She says.

>[1/2]

It took you longer than expected to get that all done, and you have to jog to get to school on time.

But you make it, thankfully.

“You look tired” Veer says as you flop into your seat next to him.
“I feel tired” You say. “How’s it going?”
“Good” He says. “Better than you, from what I’ve heard”
“Heard about my bundle of joy, have you?” You ask.
“Dwight told me” He says. “How’s that working out?”

“Well enough” You say. “She gets along with Moriarty, so she can stay until it’s sorted out”
“There are people that don’t get along with your cat?” Veer asks.
“Haven’t met one so far, but if I did I probably wouldn’t like them” You say.
“You hear the other bad news?” He asks.
“Shoot” You say.

Veer points at the board, and you turn to see what he’s indicating.

“Oh…” You say. “Shit”

On the board, written in big chalky letters are two words: Pop, and Quiz.

Okay. Remain calm. You still have some time to whip through some study mate-

“Alright class, take your seats” Mr. Singh says as he enters the room.

Fuck… Fuck. Damn. Shit. Son of a… fuck.

Okay, keep not panicking. You can still do this.

Mr. Singh begins handing the tests out, as you prepare your brain…

You get your quiz passed back to you and look it over.

Okay, you kind of know that one…

That’s not… you haven’t even seen that equation…

Alright. You can still do this. Just weed through the test and start with the easy problems. Take care of those first, and you can handle the hard ones with the time you have left…

Hard ones like that one… and that one… and that…

Alright then. It’s official: you’re boned.

You resign yourself to working on the questions top to bottom, whether you can get them right or not.

By the time the period is over, you are well and truly demoralized. You hand in your test and zombie-walk off to music class when the bell rings.

“That bad?” Veer asks.
“It was a disaster wrapped in a catastrophe loaded onto a plane and flown into a skyscraper” You say.
“You’ll do better next time” Veer says. “Just remember to study, and not fall asleep in class”
“Easier for you to say” You say. “You aren’t the one who accidentally a kid”

“I could help you out, if you wanted” He says.
“Maybe” You say. “I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, so I’ll have to get back to you on that” You say.
Veer shrugs as you enter the music class. “Let me know” He says.

Dominic is a bit of a slacker, but he’s a pretty damn good bass player. Not because he’s black, as the stereotype goes. He used to play it a lot, and he probably still does. He likes to talk about his experience from about a year ago when he was in a band with some other students, before they all graduated and moved away.

You start with the opening chords.

https://youtu.be/MinoVJfuAAs

You like playing this. It sounds pretty cool with the right distortion, and you have to admit that having the bassline in there makes it sound better.

The two of you get about halfway through the song before Ms. Browning emerges from her office.

“Alright alright! Settle in and listen up!” She says. “Today we-“

She is interrupted by a light knock at the door.

“Again?” She asks. “Am I going to be able to teach an actual lesson in here?”

She walks briskly to the door and cracks it open to see who’s outside.

“Sorry I’m late” The person outside says with a familiar French accent. “I ‘ad some trouble getting srough ze halls”
“Not a problem, not a problem” Ms. Browning says. “You of all people don’t have to apologize for that”

Claire wheels herself into the room slowly. Odd, she isn't usually on her own…

“Okay! We’ll get started as soon as everybody is ready” Ms. Browning says. She’s obviously tired. Ms. Browning always gets overly energetic and loud when she’s tired. ‘Beat’s ODing on coffee’ as she’d say.

>[1/2]

Music class goes by quickly, almost too quickly. If only math could go by this fast… y’know, when you aren’t sleeping through it…

“You know, if you want to play more often you should hang around here after school” Dominic says as you pack up your instruments.
“They don’t close this room?” You ask.
“Nah, Ms. Browning keeps it open for a while so she can work” He says. “We used to use this place to practice”
“I’ll think about it” You say. “Between work and MA club I’m usually pretty swamped after school, so I’ll let you know”

You and Dominic exchange numbers, and he leaves.

You take Claire up to her classroom, and aside from the fact that you somehow forgot about the wheelchair and tried to take the stairs, you made it without mishap.

The bell goes off just as you make it to the class.

“Merci Beaucoup” She says.
“Not a problem” You reply.
“By any chance… are you working tonight?” She asks.
“Yeah… why?” You ask.

She smiles softly. “I was meeting wiz some family friends tonight. Perhaps I could bring zem by at ze end of ze night” She says.

You turn and walk away from the classroom and through the rapidly emptying halls. Pulling out your phone to check the time, you see that you have a text. Funny, you mustn’t have been paying attention.

Luckily, Yui is pretty on top of things and you don’t have to wait long for her. When she arrives, the two of you get moving.

“Sorry!” She says. “No drive. I don’t carry it to school”
“No worries” You say.
“Why do you want it?” She asks.
“I was showing Kyla some anime and it made me realise how lackluster my collection is” You say.
“Well, you do only keep what you’ve watched recently” She says. “That would mean… Steins;Gate, Fate/Zero, Durarara and Star Driver”

“Basically” You say. “I’m surprised you remember that”
“I have a good memory” She says.

Alright guys, so lets talk about who we know is a current player. This is a quest so it is close to guaranteed that atleast one person we know is fighting during the blood moons like us, the quest is who. My guess is Ms. Browning, she was near us when the first blood moon hit where we ran into stonehand and also she supposely has a 'child' that she never talked about and seems smarter then your average child, similiar to a certain someone.

“So how’s the con prep going?” You ask.
“Great!” She says. “I even managed to get a new piece done last night”
“Awesome” You say. “Do I get to see it?”

“No” She says. “You’ll have to wait”
“Aww come on!” You say.
“No means no” She says. “This one is important. It needs to have a reveal!”
“Oh… fine” You say. “So long as you show me eventually”

“I will” She says. “So how have things been now that you’re a single parent?”
“Har har” You say. “I’m just glad I already had the extra room”
“Extra room… do you still sleep on the couch?” She asks.
“Yes” You say.

“Why? You have the whole apartment to yourself now” She says.
“Had” You say. “I had the whole apartment to myself. Besides, the couch is comfy”
“But it’s a couch” She says.
“A comfy couch” You reply.

“I don’t get you” She says.
“That’s okay” You say. “I don’t get you either”

Yui giggles, and you check the time.

“Jeez, we’ll have to hightail it if we want to have time to do anything” You say.
“Not running” She says. “Too tired”
“Too tired to run?” You ask. “How late were you up last night?”
“Late” She says.
“Yui…”
“You don’t wanna know” She says. “Art takes time. Sometimes it is time that coincides with sleep”

You roll your eyes. “Well, at least pick up the pace a bit” You say.
“I can do that” She says.

Yui drags a bit, but you still make good time back to your apartment. When you enter, you find Kyla still sitting in the same place you left her.

“Heyo” You say. “It’s me”
“Saif! Why can’t you be more like this guy?” She asks, pointing frantically at the screen.
“Who?” You ask.
“Him!” She says, pausing it with Shizuo on screen. “He throws EVERYTHING. If you were more like him we could just fill your Aren-ello Yui”

Nice save. VERY nice save.

“Hi Kyla” Yui says. “Enjoying the show?”
Kyla nods, and then shoots you a dirty look.

“You miss me?” You ask.

Kyla’s stomach grumbles. “Yes” She says.
“At least one part of you is honest” You say, looking through your kitchen for lunch stuff.

There isn't a whole lot here. The most you ever keep is cat food, ramen, sandwich stuff and the occasional bits for something more complex…

At least she picked a good character.

Though being like that one smart-ass would be good.

Dude has dodges for days. Though for the life of me I can't recall his name.

You kind of want to actually do something more than just sandwiches… but with what you have here…

“Any preferences?” You ask.
“I’m easy” Yui says.
“I’ll eat whatever” Kyla says.

Good to know. Cheese, butter, bread, pan, stove. Grilled cheese sandwiches it is.

You’d love to woo the ladies with your culinary skills, but this might be pushing it time-wise as it is. Luckily, grilled cheese is hard to fuck up. Even when you turn the heat way up to make it go faster.

While you work, Yui sits down to watch anime with Kyla. You’d complain about the lack of help, but you don’t actually mind. You know that Yui’s been super busy, so you’ll give her a chance to relax; however brief it might be.

You finish making lunch in record time, and to your surprise only one of the sandwiches got burnt. You take that one. Easier to ingest your fuckup than to reveal your mistake.

“It’s good” Yui says.
“Your offering is accepted” Kyla says. You’re going to have to sit her down and talk to her about talking like she’s a goddess…

And maybe come up with a secret knock so she doesn’t accidentally out you to whoever you bring by…

“We should probably get back” You say.

Yui grabs your wrist to check your watch. “Oh crap!” She says.
“It’s not that bad. We have tons of time” You say.
“But we need to leave right now!” Yui says, jumping out of her seat and shifting from foot to foot.

“You go on ahead, I have to talk to Kyla” You say.
“Family stuff?” She asks.
“You are family” You say.
“True” She says. “I’ll meet you in the lobby”

Yui grabs her stuff and heads out the door.

“I’m not calling her Aunt Yui” Kyla says.
“Never asked you to” You say. “I think she’d die of embarrassment if you did”
“So what’s up?” Kyla asks.
“I forgot to mention earlier that I have work tonight” You say. “You might be on your own for dinner”
“I can manage” She says.

You want to believe her, you really do…

“Just in case” You say, going into a kitchen drawer. “Here’s a spare key. If you get hungry, feel free to come down to the café”
“Will I get ice cream again?” She asks.
“I make no guarantees” You say.
“Okay” She says.

“Alright, I’ve gotta get back to school” You say.
“Have fun” She says.
“School is always fun” You reply. “Except when it’s not… which is at least 50% of the time”

Kyla waves you off as you get your stuff and head out. You look back at her from the door and she’s already back to watching anime…

Maybe you should call at around 6… just to make sure she’s keeping track of time…

You sigh. Do the other champions have to deal with celestial freeloaders? Maybe you should ask one… if you get the chance…

That's all for tonight!

If all goes according to plan, next thread will be tomorrow.

I'll be sticking around for a few minutes to take questions and suggestions

Good run, I have to say between this and the new persona quest my interest in /tg/ quests has suddenly spiked.
