The mad, frenzied mirth of Corporal Hate fills the stuffy conference-room-cum-CIC. It barrels through the dampening effect of the boring white plasterboard walls and tiled ceiling, expanding and filling every square inch of air with painful, unstoppable guffaws. He slides down the wall helplessly, back of his hand flung over his eyes, clutching his gigantic coffee mug close.

“Y-you,” he wheezes. “G-giving g-g-girl advice. Oh. Oh wow. Leading... blind... ah. Ahahahaa!” He catches sight of your deadpan expression and just starts giggling again, knowing you're winding up a pitch and not giving a damn.

Also, I figured out why I find Shoukaku so off-putting:
She reminds me WAY too much of my ex.
In a few superficial ways (the cosplay, the medical know-how) but more importantly in the touchy-feelyness and how insistently she's been inserting herself into settle's activities.

My emotional diagnosis: She's gonna get ridiculously clingy and overbearing. Not like Arizona's physical clinginess, and probably (hopefully) not full-anime yandere or whatever, but she absolutely strikes me as the kind of girl who'll try to make themselves the center of Settle's life and take any attempt for some personal space as an insult.
Like a quieter, more passive-agressive Kongou.
Just my two cents.

(comedy option, defuel her, drag her to the ocean, remove all remaining confidential, and sink her in the ocean, have her be a reef next to the subway cars.

Enterprise ... will be a clusterfuck since both NPN and the Pac yards have a piece of the action, but the issue is radcon, since its old, pre modern computing, also its haunted. There are too many ghosts on big E, its effectively a ghost ship, its quite spooky to go on it.

“Krrsht,” you enunciate into your cupped hand. “This is Pot calling Kettle Actual, how copy, over?”

Hate just laughs more, setting his coffee on the floor so he can point at you while doing so. He finally brings a hand-phone up to his ear and manages to sputter into it, “N-no copy, Pot, Kettle Actual is fully engaged and u-unavailable f-f-or tasking!”

“Yes,” you say, eyeballing Hate's massive coffee mug. “So busy. Much work.”

“Says the guy with a hot chick on the hook *right now* who can't even figure out how to operate the reel,” he retorts smoothly. Shoukaku's affronted gaze snaps to him, her mouth small and gently frowny, but he just gives her a cool look as he sips at his coffee, still sitting against the wall.

*That* was a little too far. “Did you forget how to cast, Corporal, or did you get distracted by the dynamite?”

Hate's expression closes like a hatch. He shrugs noncholantly and slurps loudly at his drink. “You can think whatever the fuck you want, skipper.”

“You are such a jew,” you complain.

Admiral Thomas, Harder Goto and even Shoukaku turn to stare at you.

“Don't look at me like that,” you snort. “He builds his own guns, which are usually about cramming as much kill into as small a space as possible, he thinks five-to-one is a fair fight and he refuses to confirm or deny.” You spread your hands wide, daring them to find fault.

“Who said anything about building guns?” Hate says smoothly.

You gesture at him with your upturned palms. “The prosecution rests!”

“Skipper,” Harder says, his hands still clutching your jacket, “to hell with the jarhead, I came to YOU! That nip carrier was wrapped around your *finger,* man! HELP! HEELP!” he shakes you again, eyes wide in terror.

I was like "Welp this is what I get for lack of sleep, and went back into the ship proper.

The worst was when I was trying to sneak a smoke when I heard screams and saw someone trying to put bombs out. It was scary and then I found out about big E's fire.. ugh.

Forestall had issues, Intrepid at night has some 2spooky shit, big E every now and again will try do do things it shouldn't, like motors will spin, thank god it can't start up, because there are times I can swear it groans as it wants to start up, that aren't tidal.

See, big E has the ghosts on the flight deck, the engine room ghosts, the airdale ghosts, and I swear one of the really old com rooms is haunted (but the issue is the hangings but that's another discussion, with some guy who uses a really old com equipment, since it was clicking and staring when the room was long secured, and the only one there was a fire watch.

Also, the worst thing is the engine room ghost seems to troll new people, he has respect for qualified folk.

The best was when a ghost showed me what was mal;functioning, he pointed out the power panel that was malfunctioning and I was like "thanks," and then he turned into dust.

Apparently that power panel had had issues for 40 or so years too and it had had a habit of killing technicians, so perhaps it was like "don't join us, this is broken./

Too late to post again. So some thoughts.

I think seeing Naka as a girl is what got Harder panicking in the first place.

Shoukaku might have been able to give Harder some advice, until he rammed his foot down his esophagus.

Don't we have a carrier battle to plan?

Did you ever notice how similar the mechanism of a shaped charge is to the mechanism of a fission bomb? I mean, uranium is used in armor-piercing munitions anyway...

I don't really see any boomers coming back.
See, everything that's come back so far has been warships, and all indications is that they're coming back because they've got a job left to do. Abyssals because they didn't get to do the job they were built for in life, shipgirls in opposition to the abyssals.
A nuclear missile submarine is not a warship. It is in some ways the /antithesis/ of a warship. A warship protects its country, advances its country's interests, by waging war. An SSBN does the same thing by /not/ waging war. A warship dies unfulfilled if it never fires its guns in anger; an SSBN, being a second-strike, deterrent element, dies unfulfilled if it /does/.

Planefag has hinted that the Abyssals are coming back because they were never used, never fired their guns in anger, and are upset about that. But an SSBN lives to /not/ use its weapons. If it does, it has failed in its purpose.

So I don't think we'll be seeing any Abyssal missile submarines. Probably not any shipgirls either.

You sigh Significantly, pushing your head towards your shoulder till your neck straightens with an audible pop. “Harder...” your instinct is to step into a private room for this chat, but by his expression he's not interested in waiting that long. “Have you ever looked at Naka as a *girl?* Not a ship, not a 'nip'-” you make airquotes - “but a flesh-and-blood girl?”

He gives you a lidded-eyed look. “Pretending those moronic hairballs are some manner of radome is all that keeps me sane, skipper, so no. Besides, we ARE-”

“No,” you say curtly, poking him in the forehead to shut him up. “No, no no.” Poke poke poke, as you try to prod it through his thick skull. “She dresses up in cute clothes. She's a goddman TV star, a media darling. She does INTERVIEWS. She sings songs-”

“If you call that si-”

“SKIPPER IS TALKING, HUSH. She sings songs. She's doing her damnedest to be human. You ever wonder why, Harder? Even a little bit?”
He shrugs, turning his palms up helplessly. “You've seen their TV. You gonna tell me YOU understand it either?”

Goto snickers in the background, but you plow on. “You remember what I told you before, right?”

“That she's an obsolete shitbucket who can't perform ASW to save her life? Literally? Wait, hold on-” he presses a hand-phone to his ear, “-it's the rest of the fucking IJN on the line, sir, sounds like they're screaming NO SHIT!”

“Yeah,” you reply. “I don't have time for this Socratic shit so lets pretend I ask you where you launch a daylight attack and you say submerged because surfaced is suicidal. You stick with your strengths - especially when you're not sure what to do, or what the situation is. For you, that's trying to pop every destroyer you see in the face with a Mark-14. Natural reaction. What does Naka's reaction tell you?”
>>
>>41037983

Harder glares at you. “The hell does that mean? She doesn't even act like a damn warship at all.”

“Exactly.”

You watch Harder's expression cloud as he digests that.

“You wanna learn to girl? Step one is the GIRL part, sailor.”

Harder frowns, looking dubious.

He came online as I was posting that, actually. Fired his notes up when I asked him if he'd got anything. Not a full writeup, but it's sufficient for the story, which is pretty short.

I'll include his standard disclaimer here, because I like it.

>This is a heavily edited, biased and one sided view of the world, places and people I have met since 1953.
>The content is principally aimed at my daughters who seem to be marginally more interested than the general population at large – who, to date, have proved largely indifferent to my existence.
>Bearing this in mind all the really interesting bits have been removed.
>I suspect that being from an ‘old school’ Merchant Navy background my preferred medium should really be verbal as we seemed to spend a lot of the boring bits of sea passages entertaining ourselves with stories and tall tales of past adventures (never “yarns” tho) in various ports and ships around the world.
>Being, as it was in those days, a mainly masculine environment the majority of the really good stories are, of course, unsuitable for young ladies of a sensitive disposition.
>Some of the timings, names and locations will be approximate due to lack of official documentation and the degree of intoxication at the time of the events.

And for the record, before anyone fucking starts, I am not one of the daughters. I'm the son, and have heard most of this in pubs already.

>It was told to me by Brendan the lecky who, although Southern Irish, apprenticed himself to 'The Protestant Navy' - Royal Navy - (because the Irish Navy already had an electrician).
>When he was a junior lecky at sea (the Biera patrol) and they were trying to detect a 'soft' earth on one of the multitude of cables.
>The senior lecky took him to the compartment with the fuse board, removed the appropriate fuses, and told Brendan to pass him a ball pean hammer from the tool box
>Pointed to the deck and told Brendan to look down, and as he was doing that the lecky jammed the hammer head into the open fuse holder
>Which caused a deckhead panel three compartments down to blow in...thus detecting the soft earth

Was playing SH4 the other day. Spotted Nip invasion fleet while on patrol near Luzon.

Sees Sendai Class CL in middle of pack, immediately dives on approach run. Closes in to 3000yrds and fires off 3 Acoustic fish while she slips by. All 3 lock on to her stern and drill hard into her unprotected screws.

Nip escorts go crazy while I laugh at them 300ft down indiscriminately firing off more acoustic torps to hunt their asses down. Sendai CL floods by the stern quickly and goes under all the seamen inside bounding around in a whirl of chaos. She starts to go under only for their air filled bow to plow up through the water and back up to the surface vertically. Poor Nip seamen in lifeboats got crushed by the still covered in seamen Sendai cruiser before she finally slipped below the waves with a whimper. I killed a lot of seamen with my rods of doom that day.

OP on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwb7Wmibcx8

Most of the shots we've seen of Kuribayashi she's been in body armor, which makes it obviously difficult to determine cup size. Based on the shot at 1:19 though she doesn't seem to have gotten any reduction there.

Kurokawa is still taller: note that Kuribayashi is jumping in that. She probably wouldn't fit in the frame otherwise.

And am I the only one who doesn't mind Kuribayashi and Kurokawa's redesigns? Even Rory's costume change isn't that horrible.

Hey guys.

I just realized that we have a problem.

A BIG problem.

Everyone here remembers General Billy Mitchell, right? You know, the one famous for demonstrating how vulnerable ships were to aircraft?

Well you see, he demonstrated the lethality of aircraft dropped ordinance on some old battleships, to be specific;

The captured German panzerschiff Ostfriesland

BB-1, USS Indiana

BB-8, USS Virgina

BB-13, USS New Jersey

And of course, USS Texas otherwise known as San Marcos.

Now here come the unfortunate bit.

Can you all guess where these ships were sunk?

No?

Well I'll give you a hint, Chesapeake Bay

That's right folks, and entire squadron of angry pre-dreadnought battleships is currently sitting parked on the East Coast, just about as far from where all of our shipsluts are stationed at the moment as possible.

If these girls wake up and decide to hit oh lets say, New York, we are going to be up shit creek without a paddle. Its going to take at the very least a day and a half to reach the East Coast, in that time you have 5 angry Abyssal battleships steaming up and down the East Coast bombarding everything they see.

So uh,

yeah.

Just so you know.
>>
>>41038520
Last I heard they were in extended storage. Like how the US has pretty much all of their F-117s still in storage.

But that information may be false.

>implying they can see subs
>implying the nuclear mk37s will give them a chance
combined with surface fighters from New Jersey and New York, along with advanced interceptors from Delaware providing intel.
>>
>>41038547
Three points.

1. Planefag has implied/stated many times that the Abyssals wrecked all the shit. So New York is 90% likely to already have been shat on.

2. There's no rhyme or reason to where they come back.

3. I think at least a few of those served in an armed conflict and Planefag has said being sunk as a target ship isn't automatic Abyssalfication.
>>
>>41038547
I don't think we've seen any evidence of Abyssals spawning at the site of their wrecks.
I'm pretty sure there weren't any French ironclads sunk outside of LA

>>
>>41038547
Given that this explains every rumor we've heard about what already happened on the east coast, I expect it already happened.

If it didn't, the US probably has other assets in the region to deal with it.

One of the benefits of having a position like we do is that we only have to deal with what's in our jurisdiction, and this is not.
>>
>>41038547

I'd be surprised if they did go for the same tone as the manga. This is a syndicated broadcast series, not an OAV - there's no way they could get away with what the manga pulls, especially with all the new rules and censorship going on over there. That they didn't see this coming already is mind-boggling.

Not being as grimdark as the manga isn't a problem, though. The series still has enough humor and action to find a niche.

Well, the Navy hasn't been summoning shipgirls. Planefag himself has said that politics and religion have been playing a part in keeping this from taking place. There have also been literally zero reports about "Shipgirl Squadron One, based out of San Diego or Pearl, sortied against a light abyssal skirmishing force" or something, which would have come to our attention if it had.

Somewhere in the back of the room you hear Goto strangling his own giggles.

“For Christ's sake, Harder - be NICE to her. She can't ask you where you wanna stick your torpedo if you don't threaten her with one in the first place!”

“That... that boat was my favorite, as a kid,” Thomas says. “Read everything ever printed on the Pacific sub fleet. Sam Dealey was my idol. Nerves of steel... hunting the hunter. “Yeah,” you mutter, rubbing your temples. “Tell me about it, sir.”

I am not going to dig through all of these threads to find the exact places where it is implied by Navyfag and Planefag that the US has more shipgirls than just ours.
Mostly, because I don't care enough
But, also because I understand how the military works.
The United States has an enemy that it has to fight, and it has a new weapon to fight it with.
The US is obligated to help it's allies, but they are not going to send -all- of their weapons to -one- of their allies.
One, because Japan (the ally in question) is one ally out of many, many countries the US is obligated to help, and also because the United States is not going to leave it's own massive coastlines without defenses.
To say otherwise is idiotic madness.

Doesn't she have more planes as a light carrier then the Tone and Chikuma combine?
>>
>>41038942

Doesn't have to. All the US shipgirls are currently in Japan because 1. that's literally all they have, since they haven't been actively summoning them, 2. they need to give them something to do becuase just sticking them in a hole someplace might piss them off and ~nobody wants that~ and 3. the US Navy is the largest in the world, and their Coast Guard is similarly massive, so they've been able to keep up with defenses... so far. But protecting the homeland AND all their allies and interests worldwide from Abyssal attacks is starting to stretch them thin - they just can't service and turn around ships fast enough.

Of course, the USS Iowa is still stateside...
>>
>>41038994
Battleships are too slow, though a cruiser or three for the carriers wouldn't go amiss I think
>>
>>41038978
Why? It won't be in range to shoot at the carriers, and it's AA is comparatively shit. It serves only to be a liability in this specific task force.

This isn't WoWS.

Not enough docks, no one trained to work the docks yards, Not enough production of various planes.

Depends on the battleship. The Kongous, the Iowas (not that we have any), the South Dakotas (again, not that we have any), and North Carolinas (guess what: we don't have any), could all mostly keep up, although it might slow the fleet by a few knots at flank speed.

My primary reservation is that a battleship is a very powerful asset, and I suspect all we really need is a couple more cruisers to deal with something like a surprise cruiser/destroyer raid.

Man, this is infuriating. There are notes. But they are NOTES. He's got 'em broken down into service on particular ships on a blog thing, and he's got SUMMARIES, but little in the way of actual writeups.

Do you know what it's like to see a heading with a summary writeup that goes
>In which our hero has a creep up the Reep, is given a junior sparkie to play with, meets old pals in Montreal, fends off junior engineers, freaks the chief thief, runs aground, has Noo Year in Noo York, listens in on the Wall of Death and witnesses a chimpanzees tea party, sees Star Wars, a large hat, gives generously to the underprivileged, pays off the junior, survives a heart attack and is nicked by the Rotterdam police…

Go into the actual post and see, as it's total contents
>Joined Belfast 14/10/1977 – Signed off Rotterdam 27/1/1978
>Belfast – Immingham – Hamburg – Montreal – Chicago – Milwaukee – Detroit – Montreal – Brooklyn – Leith – Rotterdam

It's infuriating. And because I am a terrible person, I now share this feeling with you.

But since I'm not a completely terrible person I'll share one of the properly written up ones in a minute.

We will need high yield surface weapons as well, so do we have Harpoons or no?

It's Mussashi you should be worried about.
>>
>>41039606
Sammy, by running her boilers to an insanely dangerous pressure, managed 28 knots. Ordinarily, she runs 24 knots.

Kaga's probably our slowest ship at 28 knots (Wikipedia); a DDE like Sammy B just can't keep up without putting herself in great danger. DDEs were designed for convoy escort and escorting slow escort carriers, not for being part of the main fleet.
>>
>>41039701
Well in the game, recent Abyssals are implied to corrupted versions of certain shipgirls.
>>
>>41039701
Considering Light Cruiser Demon and Destroyer Princess, it's not entirely impossible.

DD Harusame, DD Princess, Naka, CL Demon, Agano, CL Demon (Damaged)
Previous abyssals had designs resembling other girls, but they became really blatant with these two. Additionally: both abyssals show up in the in-game equivalents to the spots where the 3 ships sunk (Naka and Agano sunk in the same operation).

Just for fun, lets try to figure out Lexington's characteristics.

I'll start;

Ex-battlecruiser like Kongo, shell be jittery and bounce everywhere

Shes thick, 37,000 ton combat load

She had torpedo bulges and a full 7" armor belt left over from her BC form, so shes wide AND thick

she has a massive stack, which of course means that shes FUCKING STACKED LOOK AT THIS THING JESUS CHRIST

4 double 8" gun turrets makes her more than willing to engage enemy surface ships, which keeps getting her in trouble (thinks that shes still a BC)

Tends to absent minded blow her own planes and fairies off when firing over top of her flight deck

DID I MENTION SHES FUCKING STACKED

I am not gonna force any conclusions, but it's pretty obvious the devs were going somewhere with this.
CL Demon looks like both and appears in the place where both sunk. DD Princess looks like Harusame and appears where she sunk.

Perhaps they are soulless (that part is important) beasts that take the form of sunken ships (or more than one, at that). Who knows.

Aside from the Mk48 ADCAP torpedo, which does less with more due to being able to aim for a particular sweet spot that you just couldn't do with WW2 torps, modern weapons do pitiful amounts of damage compared to WW2 ones. The difference is, the hit percentage is so much better that every round you fire is likely to do damage, whereas WW2 rounds tended to go mostly in the water...

And probably Ghost's new computer being a shit and all.
>>
>>41040644
I'd have more respect for this opinion if her previous missions hadn't followed the exact same format, and she hadn't brought down the Chinese government twice.

To put this another way, just because this particular mission was probably going to fail, doesn't let you ignore the pattern Yukikaze set over a lifetime of luck draining.
