Kill Six Billion Demons

Its like Planescape on meth.
>>
>>41078575
I believe it's heavily influenced by Hinduism.
So basically yeah, Planescape on a wide variety of drugs.
>>
>>41078575
is that a comic? is it free?

yes
>>
>>41078644
yup

look up "Kill 6 Billion Demons"

It's a webcomic
>>
>>41078615

Not really. It's pretty straight forward and just uses generically "eldritch" art and goofy names to make itself appear "deep"
>>
>>41078683
ok thank you anons!
>>
>>41078735
Actually, now that you mention it, a game (or novel or comic or whatever) where the players are otherwise normal people who are each diligently seeking "enlightenment" would be neat. Each player can take a vastly different path, but they all end in the same way, with cosmic truths and beings that are eldritch and extremely harmful to the human soul.

I imagine, in game form, it would consist largely of the GM posing koans or philosophical questions that only make sense within the confines of the game, and the players propose equally strange and idiosyncratic answers to these. Also, like magic and fighting and monsters and shit.
>>
>>41078735
I guess Gnosticism, hinduism, the Aghori current of Kali Worship and of Shivaism, Jewish, Christian, Muslim mysticism and quantum science are perfectly mainstream to this anon, we should just respect him for his vast culture, keen intellect and handsome visage.

K6BD draws on mythic traditions that are neither euphoric technophilia, judeo-christian morality with elf ears/tentacles stapled on, or Babby's First Animism.

as such, since it is not drawing from the only reference pool anon knows, he is lost, alone, and afraid, and the only possible explanation is that the author is just trying too hard to be deep.

the alternative is too terrifying to contemplate
>>
>>41083138
>the author is just trying too hard to be deep.

As a counterpoint, I posit that it is impossible for a work of fantasy purely meant to entertain to be "deep".
>>
What a shitty site layout.

you underestimate the shallowness of nerds; they are weaker than you think.

i happen to agree with you personally, but there's that great Warren Spector quote that gets to the heart of the problem: Star Wars and Lord of the Rings constitute 90% of your average nerd's cultural awareness.

and for all that we venerate the idea of intelligence, we mostly just fear looking stupid. and nothing makes you look stupid worse than someone making a reference you didn't get. therefore, anyone who references something you don't get must be trying to make you look stupid, and must be shunned!

defense mechanisms are a fucking trip man

>A lot of people ask me about my influences. I think making a section on the site would be overdoing it a little bit, so I’ll list some of the major ones here and hope people can go off and find other ridiculously cool stuff.

>Kill Six Billion Demons started as the scene that opened the comic (a girl receiving a key from a godlike warrior on the run). I had this idea like 10 years ago. I think I had planned to make it into some kind of shonen Bleach knockoff. Then I discovered I was a secret Where’s Waldo addict and chanced upon 80s and 90s French sci-fi comics.
>>
>>41084438
>I must start with the eternal Jean Giraud (aka Moebius) is probably one of the biggest influences on my work. On that note, anything by Jodorowsky (Metabarons is fantastic). Along those lines, Geof Darrow’s Hardboiled kicked the shit out of me. Its the first book I read where I knew instantly I wanted to get into comics hardcore. James Stokoe and Sheldon Vella are both insanely radical dudes that come from the same comic DNA as me. Stokoe’s Orc Stain is a phenomenal book, and the man cannot be mortal. My coloring I have cribbed mostly from Sheldon and Noriyoshi Ohrai. Lastly I cannot give enough credit to Wayne Barlowe and his Inferno work, because he got me into that particular brand of surrealist fantasy. Go check his stuff out right now.

>Writing wise Kill Six Billion Demons is heavily inspired by Clive Barker’s Abarat and Michael Kirkbride’s 36 Lessons of Vivec, for the Morrowind video games, which tangentially got me into reading Buddhist and Hindu philosophy and writing all the weird crap you find in the comic.

>I have to also give credit to Requiem:Vampire Knight. It’s a French comic series with copious blood and boobies, but the art is unbelievable and the concepts are ridiculously goth/metal as hell. I’ll also mention the movie Mirrormask here along with a ton of Neil Gaiman‘s work because he is undeniable God-king of the modern/urban fantasy concept.

>Though it’s not an influence you can just parse out immediately, influence from a lot of religions have been folded into the KSBD cosmology, most notably Zoroastrianism, Zen Buddhism, and Vedic Hinduism (there’s also some Abrahamic stuff if you look very hard).

>Lastly, I’ll mention that I’m stupidly and unnecessarily into super heavy metal. I can’t really name any specific bands that have had an influence on my comic but the extreme melodrama metal is ridiculously good fuel for the creative fire.
>>
>>41084177
But anon, in slaughtering only what moves, you limit your attentions to only those things that are maintained by the natural laws. You're declaring yourself lord and master over the idea of woodworking after only knocking down some towers of blocks left by an easily-distracted child. To truly become enlightened through slaughter, you would have to slay something which is inviolable and intrinsic to the nature of existence.

Well, anon, are you able to describe and demonstrate a method of doing so? Can you kill gravity?

Let me explain everything.

#1. This is not traditional games.

Really, it's not. It's a comic. Not even a comic about traditional games. Just a comic. There's no real debate here. Don't even try those age old "everything is /tg/" arguments, because that's just saying "/tg/ is /b/".

#2 /tg/ is allowed to discuss things that aren't traditional games.

If it was one thread, that wouldn't be a real issue. But, you seem intent on carving a little niche for yourself, and that's just not okay. If you want to keep making these threads, make them on the board they belong on. Can you imagine if everyone acted as selfishly as you? Why, the board you feel compelled to post on would disintegrate into all sorts of off-topic cliques, and that's just not fair to the people who want to discuss traditional games.

Let's try to keep things fresh and always moving, and if you really, desperately actually want to discuss incorporating the comic into games (honestly, and not just as a pretense to chat about the comic), then try to present material you've actually developed, like statted characters or a world guide or item lists, something that actually shows genuine interest in incorporating the comic into a game.

#3 It's a middling comic. It's not terrible, but it's not great. It has some ideas, but it has a blurred sense of identity that matches its dense but often overwhelming art style. If you really think it deserves it's weekly thread, you probably need some exposure to other comics to lessen your obsession and exaltation of what is still a fairly amateur work.

#4 The Author posts on this board.
If the author happens to be reading this, all I have to say to you is you do good work, and I applaud your efforts. Keep at it, and I'm sure your comic will develop into something grand and unique. However, I also ask that you don't encourage people to keep making these threads, and instead direct them to /co/.

Please do look kindly upon /tg/.

I'd advise you to re-read point #2.

From my perspective, you're just CN, and largely because you are short-sighted. Take a look at similar boards if you really need to understand why some measure of order is required.

I don't consider myself overly lawful, but I recognize that some semblance of rules are neccesary to prevent anarchy. If anything, the stance I presented was NG.

You seek anarchy with your frivolous suggestions, and we can all easily see what happens with anarchy by glancing up at the second letter of the alphabet.
>>
>>41084920
>I don't consider myself overly lawful
Modrons never do. It's understandable, but kindly stay out of discussions you dislike instead of shoving your nose in to complain about it. I don't come to your 40k lore threads and post, "OH GEE GOLLY NEW AND ORIGINAL CONTENT WE'VE NEVER SEEN HERE BEFORE HOW INTERESTING."
>>

Well, I guess that's what CN for you. Chaotic stupid in a nutshell, and your whole plead for "LET ME SPAM OFF-TOPIC THREADS" really isn't the same as a request to discuss content to include in your games.

I get it. You want to discuss this comic. Go to /co/ then. Or, go to your home board, /b/.
>>
>>41085064
Mr. Judge Man, what if we want to discuss possible ways to take inspiration for /tg/-related things from this comic? Is that alright with you?

>>

Take my earlier advice.

Come back when you have something that shows some honesty and integrity, instead of hiding behind lies. Really, it's in your best interest, because if you genuinely want to incorporate this comic into your games, presenting something that proves you are trustworthy will make more people inclined to discuss bringing the comic into their games.

But, if you are just here to post an off-topic thread, then you will generate nothing but ill-will. Already this comic is growing to be a sore topic, and your continued misguided efforts do no one any favors.

Really. This is just me explaining how things work. There's no authority or power at play, just the nature of what happens when you try to grasp something outside of your reach or force something where it doesn't belong.
>>
>>41085064
Ok, you want formality.
Hey everybody, what system for Kill Six Billion Demons? Besides GURPS, I mean.

There, now Modronanon can not complain without violating his programming.
>>
>>41085151

I posted these two things:
>>41081083
>>41084468

That is, I posited the idea for a possible tabletop game, or something to incorporate into a tabletop game, and tried to keep a steady conversation about it going.

I was already struggling to keep my idea's head above water in that respect. When you came in here to complain about how the comic is off-topic (which I'll grant it is - on it's own), you made it impossible for that train of thought to be followed. Thus, you've helped to edge out what little on-topic content in this thread. It wasn't doing too well on its own, but there was at least one person interested enough to make a sarcastic reply.

You've met the enemy, and it is you.
>>
>>41085363
That should have been:

>Thus, you've helped to edge out what little on-topic content there was in this thread.

I've been typing all day at work, blargh.

I'm the guy the Modron wants banished to /b/. The guy who only jumped in to tell him to fuck off in the first place.
>>
>>41085363
Those are tokens. Not even particularly good tokens.

If you really wanted to generate discussion about bringing this comic into a game and not just having this thread devolve into general discussion of the comic, you really need to do much more than that.

I'm hoping, really, really hoping you actually genuinely want to play a traditional game with elements inspired by this comic, and if that's the case, you should understand that I'm not trying to criticize your spirit, just your lack of a convincing effort.

You are trying to convince not me, but the fans of the comic who don't really care about traditional games and just want to derail this topic with what amounts to off-topic banter.

But, considering your attitude, it seems like you're just trying to provide lipservice, just saying "hey, look at these lukewarm posts that made mention of something sort of like a traditional game. Now, leave us to chat about the comic."

Sincerity isn't easy to prove on the internet. A token post or two isn't really enough to convince anyone, especially when doubt always comes before faith.
>>
>>41085513
Hey man, any feedback is better than "muh board purity, show some integrity!", even if it's "I don't think that could be made fun outside of a very specific system".

You don't even need to say why, just say what.
>>
>>41085568
I'd play it in FATE.

>>41085558
>You're trying to convince my own personal boogeyman, the horde of people who come to /tg/ specifically to discuss webcomics and are uninterested in games.

>>
>>41085810
>this isn't a court of law, its an image board where we talk about people we made up doing things we also made up.

Then you should understand the importance of being convincing.

So far, all you've really done is convince people you are better off with this thread on /co/.
>>
/co/ sucks. /tg/ is beautiful and these kinds of threads were the reason I discovered the comic. And I'm actually adding a couple of interesting ideas from that comic. "Open-ended" is not "lukewarm". I've formed some ideas for a possible system, but I didn't want to go into detail until I could gauge the interest in the concept. In order to do that, I'd need a more organic thread that involves discussion about the comic and what can be made /tg/-related about it. Any chance of that happening is gone, thanks to the perfectly-calculated geometric lawful stupid dildo tickling your appendix.

Despite my tone, I'm not really that angry. Most of this has been stress relief after a difficult day. I imagine that you look like an amalgam of all of my co-workers. I'll take your dismissal as a challenge.

The outline will be in my next post.
>>
>>41086177
Here's what I've been thinking so far (and yes, I was out of the conversation for a while in order to type all of this up and get my jumbled thoughts on paper):

Here's an outline of what I was thinking:

>The player characters are Seekers of Enlightenment ("Seekers" for short), who are trying to attain a higher purpose understanding. Aside from this, they are otherwise normal people, with normal lives. The game is centered around balancing their normal day-to-day drudgery with the higher cosmic truths with which they occupy themselves.

>The characters' paths to enlightenment can be based around any tradition, modified as the player sees fit. This is determined at creation, and it informs half of the character's stats (the spiritual half).

>These stats are something like "Logicism", "Poetry", "Synchronicity", "Awareness",and "Dogmatism". Represent how based their path's practice is on "rational scholarship (philosophy, mathematics, science, etc)", "linguistic scholarship (literature, scripture, word games, and other forms of art)", "physical attunement (tai chi, humble work, fasting, mortification of the flesh, etc)", "empathy with the world and others (mindfulness meditation, daily charitable works, etc)", and "Rigidity (do they adopt their beliefs to the world, or do they see the world through the lens offered by their beliefs)", respectively.

>There are physical stats like "Strength", "Coordination", "Intelligence", "Wisdom", or something like that. In particular, the spiritual stats don't replace physical mental stats.

>Each session is the PCs going about their day jobs, then entering the eldritch world where they relentlessly seek out answers or nuggets of wisdom. Depending on their performance in either, their spiritual stats may change.

more to come . . .
>>
>>41085945
You are not people. You are a person. You should not talk for hypothetical others who are not engaged in the conversation.
>>
File: whatevs man.jpg (149 KB, 811x739)
149 KB
149 KB JPG
>>41086228
The last bit. . .

>There's a stat called "Insight" or "Enlightenment" or whatever which indicates the character's progression. As this increases, it should become easier for the character to deal with the dangers and challenges of the eldritch world, but harder to continue their day-to-day stuff normally.

>Each "answer" or "wisdom nugget" is acquired after answering a specific open-ended challenge posed by the GM in the form of a koan or similarly cryptic question.

>Each of these challenges must revolve around one or more symbols, which relate to the environs of that particular region of the eldritch world.

>There should be no particular "correct" answer to the challenges. Rather, the players must use lateral thinking to match the twisted logic of the eldritch world and demonstrate an answer. Their spiritual stats are used for what they can do here.

>The GM decides to give a response or wisdom nugget depending on the pc's answer and how well the pc kept up with the challenge's themes and distorted rationale while incorporating previous wisdom nuggets. The only "losing" answer, in which nothing is awarded, should be "I don't know". The insight is modified based on the player's answer and the GM's judgement.

>The Insight score can reach its maximum, at which point the character reaches transcendence or whatever. It can also go into the negatives, at which point the player reaches Evil Transcendence or some such thing, becoming something nasty.

>While there is violence and combat, it should serve the purpose of the game's "Truth Seeker" theme. Fight to prove your body is more perfectly synchronized with the world. Fight to prove your courage, or acceptance of risk or death. The point of a fight should rarely be just a fight. You don't get Insight (xp) by just killing things.

And that's what I have so far.

Speak, gentlemen. What say you? Fun or boring?
>>
>>41086000
>GUH, WHY DOES /co/ SUCK SO MUCH

That's not /tg/'s problem.

>WHY IS THAT THREAD SO DEAD?

Does anyone remember when /tg/ was good, not because it tried to force people to stay on topic, but because it could take any topic and make it /tg/ related?

When you could post the most insipid, cancerous brew ever and distill it into something of actual value? I do. Because right now we're turning the Steven Universe fag's shitposting into a Fusion based Fantastic Fighting Homebrew, stripping it of the pandering characters and shitty writing, and sub-class art, and taking the fusion and gem concepts and running with them.

This is why there's no "off-topic" threads except for explicitly lewd stuff, because we have the power to make it on topic in three or four posts.

Or to drive it so off topic that you end up with plastic horse anuses dispensing toppings.

“Pour me a little more, and gather thee chopwise, and I’ll tell the the tale of Koss and the Flames.
It’s said the race of Men was created because of a strained back. Gob thee not! I’ll tell thee shortly how it came to be.
The lord Koss was the caretaker of heaven in the days when YS-Pravi was split in two by her lovers, and in the war that followed his cramped and hot workshop was filled to the brim-o-brim with broken chariot wheels, bent swords, and breastplates warped and battered. Ole’ lord Koss worked ceaselessly, for his peers had naught but contempt for him and gave him no respite. Thus it came to pass one day after long hours of toil, he knelt to lift his tongs from his hearth and strained his back.
The lord Koss gave out a mighty yelp of pain (oh what a simmery yelp!). Oh, he spat and stamped, and spat many a curse, and there he resolved to do something about his crushing workload. With his bare feet (for he certainly had no chariot) and carrying his tongs, he trudged to the edge of the world, where the bodies of father UN and mother YS lay.
There he rooted around their ashes with his tongs, here and there, until he found what he was looking for. It was a ferocious white flame, a brilliant splinter from the eye of might father UN. However, as he grasped it with his tongs, he eyed it far too rigid, and moreover, it burned with a fierce and terrible cold. He flung the flame far into the void, and rooting around, found another.
This one was a hot black flame, a writhing, awful, hungry flame from the tongue of his ole’ mother YS. But as he grasped it with his tongs, he saw it a-licking at his wrists, so hungry and chaotic it was, so he flung it too, far into the void. And rooting around, he found another.

This was a warm black flame, an inquisitive flame (aye!), from YS’ heart. Koss was curious and found it gentle enough to hold, but it would not stay in his grasp, and sputtered as it writhed about. Pleased, but not yet satisfied, he put it in his leather pouch, and rooting around, found another.
This was a cool white flame, from the fingernail of his father. And Koss was pleased, (oh how pleased he was!) for it was a pliant flame, a stable flame, yet cool enough to hold.
Koss took the cool white flame and worked it for a year and a day. And when it was to his liking, he took his bronze chisel and split it with a mighty crack, and out sprung up all at once the first order of the race of Servants, the Sustainers. There were servants for mending wheels, and servants for sharpening swords, and tending Koss’ hearth, and servants for sweeping his floor, and many more. And he struck it again, and out came the second order of servants. And when the sound of his chisel ceased ringing, the red city was bustling with canal cleaners, and glass-blowers, and brick-makers, and many more besides.
The God were at once astonished and horrified. They rode the void to Koss’ workshop and accosted him. “What have ye done, fool!” they cried, and Koss realized what they meant, for in forging his new creations, his raw material had been the Flame Immortal, the heart and soul of the mighty YISUN. And so, the Servants were no automatons, but all filled with the awful heat of Will, and they very rapidly grew rebellious.
>>
>>41085151

Must be terrible to be you
>>
>>41089138
Koss quickly thought about the warm, black flame in his leather pouch, but it would not fit his purposes (how clever was he!), so he reached out to the void to that terrible cold, white flame, where it had splintered into seven hundred and seventy seven smoking shards. But even one of those shards was still far too cold to bring back into the world. So clever ole’ Koss plucked them in one by one and smothered them in the ashes of his hearth. And from that hearth arose the Aeons, the Protectors.
The Gods were even more astonished, for the terrible fires of Will burned even stronger in the Aeons. But Koss was exceptionally crafty, and very quick. Before the Aeons could struggle free from his hearth, encased in their shells of ash, he grabbed them with his tongs, and he beat the good ole’ Law into each one with his silver chisel. Grasping them, he flung them into the streets, where they quickly set about quelling the rebellious Servants with terrifying efficiency.

Hey, what's going on in this thread?
>>
>>41089168
The Gods were all agape, and praised Koss, and Koss’ heart swelled with pride, for he had indeed done a mighty service. With the servants to take care of their daily affairs, and the Aeons to hold the Law, the Gods were freed from menial tasks to quench their hearts desires (a terrible thing indeed!). And indeed, they would have remained in that city, living luxuriously, in a circular and stagnant existence, for the rest of infinity, had it been for but one of their number.
As the Gods left, Pree Ashma hid her hot and evil body beneath the ashes of Koss’ hearth. Jealousy burned in her wicked breast, for the praise that was heaped upon Koss. She waited until Koss was sound asleep, and with pickery fingers, plucked his chisel from his belt.
Out of Koss’ leather pouch she slipped the warm black flame, and grasping it, cackled as she struck all about it with the chisel. But it would not ply easily, and Aesma was monstrously impatient. As she hammered wildly, the clangs of the chisel grew so loud that they awoke Koss, and the sleeping city, and even reached vestal Prim, where she fought the Archons, lashed to their flensing tree.

>>
>>41089204
Rushing to the workshop, now filled with clashing sparks, the Gods shouted at Aesma to stop. But in defiance, she grasped that chisel in two hands and brought it down in a single wicked strike, and the flame shattered into tiny burning embers. And where the embers touched the dirt arose the race of Men, the Perceivers. And at first the Gods made to stamp them out, but stopping, they were dumbstruck.
Aesma, in her fury and impatience, had very poorly worked the warm black flame of YS (oh poorly indeed!). In her idiocy, she had forged impermanent beings – the first mortals, and in doing so had inadvertently created the Gift of Death. The Gods were bowed in awe, for the little lives of Men burned with meaning many times more potent than the creators of the Red City themselves, and the terrible fires of will burned so brightly within their brows that each was a Universe on their own, and the Gods could say no more.

It was said that this even inspired them into their self-annihilation by Division sometimes later, and the forging of the wheel, and the abandonment of heaven. But it is certainly known that the children of Aesma’s Mistake would go on to be powerful indeed, and exceptionally foolish. It was their race, after all, that tamed that Hot, Black Flame, and in doing so, brought the first of our kin into the world.
Oh lovely, wicked Aesma! And all because of a sore back, my fellows!
Now, bring me more liquid lubrication, will thee not? The night is ripe and I am exceptionally thirsty…”

I love the design of the characters in this comic.
>>
>>41084526
>>41084920
Oh no, it's you. The mindset of the mod that destroyed this glorious den of fa/tg/uys and elegan/tg/entleman.

/tg/ used to get shit done, yeah, lots of off topic stuff got posted, but people rolled it into their games, or ideas into new settings and characters.

Then the dark times came, and everything that was more than 1 step removed from a traditional game was deleted, except for quest threads that ended up growing into an even bigger segment of the board than they had been before.

/tg/ used to be the board where anons did not need other boards. Not because it was /b/, but because fa/tg/uys would take any and every idea, post, and image, and turn it into RPG fodder, while also enjoying it for its own merits at the same time.

The very essence of /tg/ is the group sitting around a table snacking, bullshitting, brainstorming, and gaming. Anons like you cut out everything but the most barebones rule oriented/following gaming aspect, and destroy the heart and soul of /tg/ hobbies.
>>
>>41084526
I love how /tg/ can be full of quest threads (which a few of are fine) and other things that are barely related to the hobby but having one thread about a comic which is more or less set in a setting similar to planescape isn't okay.

I don't even know why I come to this board any more /tg/ is just a containment board for Quests and CYOA threads now it hardly ever has any threads that are meaningful to table tops any more I'd be better off on fucking reddit if I actually want to talk about the hobby now...
>>
>>41089690
>I'd be better off on fucking reddit if I actually want to talk about the hobby now
I've been to Reddit. I've been to Giant in the Playground. I've been to ENWorld. I've been to the Paizo forums. /tg/ right now is still way better than those places. What I do is keep myself in the Generals I am interested, read, write shit and do that. Some great threads appear from time to time but that's it.
>>
>>41089713
That's what I typically do to, but you have to admit the great threads we do get are few and far between now. And it's not just because of summer.

>>
>>41089690
honestly, I don't mind quests that at least present an interesting setting or have some interesting game mechanic.
I've seen plenty of discussion over narrative styles and choices, how going over various quest running styles can give insight into GMing, stuff like that.

When it's Generic Anime Rolling D20 Until A Crit is Rolled Then Lots of Yelling then it's just worthless.

what a fucking smug ass cat. Eat your pancakes, don't fucking complain you ungrateful cat.
>>
>>41089690
Because quest threads are games. Roleplaying games, which are part of what /tg/ is about.

That said, I'm fine with /tg/ occasionally discussing comics that the board generally likes, too. I know for a fact that a lot of people on this board read KSBD, Unsounded, and GKC, and I wouldn't be surprised if they could have better threads on those topics than /co/ does.

Are you so shallow that you let this sort of thing determine what you like?
>Wow, these people who like the same thing that I like are awfully dumb.
>I don't want to be associated with these dumb people, especially not on an anonymous image board where no one can determine my identity!
>Therefore in order to differentiate myself from these people that I believe to be dumb, I must dislike what they like! Only then can I prove that I am not one of them!

Alternatively, you can like whatever you like and just call people idiots whenever you see them. These threads shouldn't be posted here constantly, I agree but this isn't going to make me suddenly throw a ragefit every time I see a reference to KSBD on /tg/ or anywhere else. Don't let the idiocy of others impair your enjoyment of something.

This whole comic is a lot less nuanced than the author seems to think.

To be fair, we only see the old testament part in the past few pages.

Angels being law-bringers that trap themselves within clay bodies to walk the material world, that's pretty not-Abrahamic.

mainstream =! people know intricacies in detail
Christians make up 4 billion humans in all their denominations (I don't get why so many retard protestands insist they aren't "christian" but "protestant"; that means they aren't catholic, idiots), it is literally the most mainstream religion out there, ask people for the intricacies of their religion and to quote bible verse and you will get the same blank stares.
mainstream is not the same as in depth knowledge
>>
>>41092019
>>41092249
I don't think you know what depth is.

If something has a veritable library of rich, articulated lore, it is indeed 'deep'. Deep does not necessarily mean making a statement on society or psychology or whatever, though exploring such things through allegory, metaphor, etc CAN add depth.

Essentially you're criticizing KSBD for not being something it's not trying to be. It's clearly not a treatise on whatever. It's a fantasy comic with a very expansive mythology.

My guess it that you're the kind of person that hates anything other than bog standard sword and sorcery in medieval England fantasy and as such anything like this makes you rage incoherently. In which case, please leave.

I agree, but he said "abrahamic mysticism" not gnosticism
and if you haven't noticed, that is mainstream as shit. basically any cartoon showing magical circles uses abrahamic mysticism to draw their magic circles
>>
>>41084461
Requiem and Orc Stain means good taste, as well as Morrowind. Even if I don't honestly know much of the rest.

It's pretty surprising that he can so easily remember all the people who influenced his work, especially after maybe ten years of prep. I don't think I'd be able to say the same - I'd just say I got some random ideas one day and tried to make it like all my favorites.
>>
>>41094203
I'm aware.

There mere fact that he said 'mysticism' really makes the stuff he cited non-mainstream by definition - to be mystic is, as a matter of terminology, to be what is outside of common knowledge.

In practice he's correct too. I mean, you might see the kabbalah or the seal of Solomon appear in a cartoon once in a while, but your average dude has no idea what either of those things actually are or what they mean.
>>
>>41085250
Maybe people just want to be inspired by the setting and storyline, rather than attempt to create rules inspired from the comic? Maybe, in this case, viewing the comic is enough, and we could let discussion and questions about how strange and unique the setting is take hold and how inspiring that is.
>>
>>41094233

>Orc Stain

>>

Yeah, but should you replace them with mediocre art and design, you're left with shitty comic, because you just took away the only thing that made the comic worthwhile.
>>
>>41094613
Wow, that's a pretty stupid opinion.
Like, I'm-not-even-going-to-bother-arguing-with-someone-this-stupid kind of stupid.

If you are really that dumb and blind, explaining anything to you would be a waste of time, so just heaping insults remains the only option.

You're so stupid, that you are trying to argue a stance that falls apart just by actually reading the comic. That basically puts you at the level of willfully ignorant, which makes any discussion impossible.

You fucking idiot.
>>
>>41094447
I don't really agree with >>41094613 even if it might be true that they aren't that great on their own.

What makes Requiem so great, for instance, is that it's so amazingly over the top metal. It doesn't care as much about the real world's idea of what makes sense and tries to make stuff that's awesome awesome but still fits together within the logic of the story's universe. And you get all this in a very unique and interesting take on hell and death and what that all means, and get some fairly good characters out of it.

I don't think Wisdom comes in nuggets.

Your mechanics seem like the start of a good party game though. What if instead of a GM, you have a card deck of koans and riddles and bible verses and whateverthefuck?

>The Insight score can reach its maximum, at which point the character reaches transcendence or whatever. It can also go into the negatives, at which point the player reaches Evil Transcendence or some such thing, becoming something nasty.
If we're using Kirkbride stuff, Transcendence would be zero-sum, and Evil Transcendence would be CHIM. I can't think of any real-world cosmology with a dichotomy like that.
>>
>>41091888

>>
I feel like I'm too dumb for this comic. I can't wrap my head around the writing when it gets mystical. Does this kind of shit actually help people obtain enlightenment? It seems to me like it's purely obfuscation.
>>
>>41095585
She decided that she wants to look for her boyfriend because she feels responsible for what might have happened to him - and using the power in the key, she teleported herself to the Void.

The Void is the land of souls, the space between worlds that demons, angels and those that have passed on dwell in. Due to their origins, humans have black souls. This is why Alison appears black when she is in the Void.

>>
>>41095773
Of course it doesn't, it's just a webcomic.

There are hints that the religious aspects of the webcomic are obfuscation though, put there in order to blind the masses and keep them obedient to the Black Emperors.
>>
>>41095665
>I don't think Wisdom comes in nuggets.
What a perfectly accurate depiction of the opinions of one naive and uninitiated.

Seriously, though, I like the card deck idea, especially if we keep the "relates to the environs of that particular part of the eldritch world". The GM and/or players would also have to connect a random quote from some esoteric scripture to a fantastical and bizarre environment the GM makes to represent part of the eldritch world. The unpredictability can be used to add an almost Mysterious (with a big-ass capital M) feeling to it.

Also:
>So basically like Unknown Armies?
I was thinking something like that or Kult, but focused on snippets of the actual content of the setting's incomprehensible metaphysics or whatever. Also, more focused on lateral thinking puzzles and such rather than skip tracing and cosmic bumfights, although it could very easily incorporate all of the above, if the gaming group so chose.
>>
>>41094476

So this is the Void, the 'afterlife' that demons and angels temporarily get banished to before being allowed back in after doing... something unspecified.

Looking at the number of bars there are with their own liquor-supplying grubs on top, my guess is that the demons just drink the time away, until their ticket out of banishment mysteriously turns up?
