All in all, the morning was a bit mortifying, if you're being honest.

The bit with the rest of the caravan wasn't bad- You treating Sheszka like normal, and, probably more importantly, Sheszka reacting like normal-
Well, it set everyone's minds at ease. Instead of running and screaming, she had a string of curious peddlers asking her all sorts of questions:
Did it feel different?
What's it like changing?
They're bigger, can I touch them?

You put a stop to the last one.

The issue at hand is your mood, of course.
You aren't envious of the attention. It was rather relaxing to spend the morning without any royal requests or other nonsense.
No, your problem was your friend and sister's newfound height.

Did she really have to be taller than you?

And she beat you to growing, too.

Oh gods, is this what your mother feels like?
Are you already turning into her?

Didn't Sheszka say that she could has a smaller form? Could we leverage the right to sleep on our skull to encourage her to stay in a smaller state? After all, she can't fit when she's big...

>>
In a split-second of startling insight, your hands fly to your head, carefully seeking, sliding through your hair.

You breathe a sigh of relief when you don't find any horns.
Not your mother yet, apparently.

You rub your forehead a little, trying to massage the stress away, not to mention any lingering embarrassment. You hope noone saw you.
People probably saw you.

Your hand scratches idly behind your jaw before you purse your lips, a single whistle reaching out over the caravan and calling your wolf to your side.

You don't want to think about how long it took to learn to whistle with fangs.

Sheszka breaks from the woods that line the road, a barrel-chested white wolf, streamers of frozen air crystallizing behind her as she moves. She has something of a mane now, though you're not sure if it's hair or simply excess magic.
She's strong.

The wolf bounds up the side of the slope, easily dropping into a trot at your side, the mist and magic extending out into a swirl that blocks your sight as she rearranges her body into a human shape again.

She smiles easily at you, her toga-dress-temporary-thing hanging off her frame.
You slide her strap back up before something spills free.

"Having fun?" You start.
Her grin is threatening to take over her whole face at this point.
"I- When I am running, yes? It feels like I am flying."

You blink, raising an eyebrow.
"Did Jinni take you flying, too?"
She shakes her head.
"I fell off a small cliff. When I was little." She says, matter-of-fact-ly.
"I see."

You can't help but smile back at her. The enthusiasm is all sorts of infectious, even if the niggling feeling of looking up at her is ever-present in your brain.

"I can't tell from that if it was a good thing or a bad thing, yes?"
The wolf throws a mass of hair over her shoulders, clearing her face for as long as it'll take it all to spring back into place. She tilts her head side to side as she answers.
"It hurt. A bit. But I wanted to do it again."
>>
>>41098434

"Ah."
"Mama- She didn't let me."
She looks down and away, and you switch your spear, your now free hand tangling in her hair and pulling her close.

She lets you drag her around, leaning down to rest her head on your shoulder, next to the still sleeping Ezzy. Her eyes half close, and her breathing steadies as she steps along with you, keeping pace, her own arms tight around you.

"Thank you. Yes."
"You are family, yes? I will always be here for you. You are not alone, Sheszka."
"Lyra."

She nuzzles into you, ignoring the fact that you're mostly dressed in plate mail, an impressive feat all it's own.

So what is Sheszka now? Or do we have to wait until the pastebin update?

And do I wait until the end of the thread to ask if there where any anything she did that factored into her evolution, or if it was just pack influence/natural progression of what she had?
>>
>>41098846
she's a yeti
>>
>>41098846
>So what is Sheszka now?
A Yeti.

No, really.
>>
>>41098846
She's an Artic Wolf
>>
>>41098882
She was a arctic wolf before her last evo.
>>
So, guys. We need to get Lyra and Ezzy into a hard fight today, so we have a chance of triple evolution tonight.
>>
>>41098902
She said she was a yeti last time.
>>
>>41098921
>>41098921
Well, anything seems to work as long as it's productive. Our wolf guarded her last couple.

We could go hardcore meditation or cooking or philosophy debate the remainder for all we know.
>>
>>41098949
I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
She is a yeti NOW.

Before then, she was a arctic wolf. Hence why I corrected >>41098882 that she was one before her last evo. Which was the one that made her into a Yeti.
>>
>>41098963
Nah fuck that shit, Lyra doesn't do that. Sara's the mage not us
>>
>>41098963
They did proabably fight a few animals during guarding, and Lyra still needs 6 level, with her XP need she definitly needs something more substantial if we want to ge to vote her evo next thread.
>>
>>41098855
>>41098881
Okay so she's a Yeti Werebeast now but what else?

Last evo she wasn't just an arctic wolf, she was also a moon-touched variant.

Also, does this mean that higher tier evos for Werebeasts change their original animal with a mythological creature and such? that's pretty neat.
>>
>>41099018
Looking at her leveling intense sparing was worth 6 levels Mom: She's Still Got It. Granted that was vs Nialla, but if we could get Jin and Shezka to go 2 vs 1 on us it might be enough. Maybe see if any guards are interested all well.
>>
>>41099053
Pretty sure she's still a wolf type anon, Yeti Wolf
>>
Best I could find. I guess it's kind of close.
>>
>>41099349
Nah Shez is still a wolf type, Yeti is probably just the name of the subspecies
>>
You let her stay like that, arms around you, breath soft in your hair.
She keeps her head tucked against you, and you let your hand rest easily in her hair, curled protectively around her, thankful for your chitin, that you don't need gauntlets.

You pet her gently as you move, the sedate pace of the caravan making it easy to put a measure of attention on your little wolf, keeping her warm and safe for a little while.

When she straightens again, one hand finding yours, she lets loose an icy sigh, expelling her worries and sorrows in a puff of frost and crystals.
It's probably a good thing that you're halfway full of fire.

"So."
"Nnn?"
"You were running around the woods, yes? Did you play with your powers?"
"Mhm."

You let her hang onto your hand, her arms swinging as she settles into a loping stride, walking alongside you.
"How many of the trees look more like icicles now, Sheszka?"
She giggles, a bubbly sound that's almost at odds with her new stature.

"Well?"
"Only a few."
"What did you do?"
"I can make ice. Lots of ice. And I can be as cold as I want. And my fur gets icy. And strong. An mah fangs're shahper-"
>>
>>41099413
The last line is half slurred as her hooks a finger over her lip, into her cheek, dragging her mouth wide open and showing off the pearly chompers concealed within.

You grin right back at her.
"And your claws, too?"
She looks pensive a moment, rolling her fingers as she stares at them before she replies.
"I'm not sure? They were always sharp. Yes."

You walk hand in hand a while longer, before you spot another guard flagging you down, the surest sign that your time is finally up.
That's certainly one good thing about companionship- Nothing makes the minutes fly by like having people around.

You swap out for the day, the poor bastard taking your spot alongside the wagons, and you're free for a few glorious hours.

Huh, here's a thought.. does Sheszka have authority over other wolves outside of family?

Think of it this way, not only is she the bigger, more dangerous canine in (most) situations now, but there's the whole hierarchical mindset thing they have going on.
>>
>>41100960
Nobody knows who the hell she is (yet). She'd need to demonstrate. Such as by shifting into a fuckhuge furry iceberg and being all "do you feel lucky, punk?" at the current Alpha.

Said alpha will probably be morally emasculated to the point of exile though, so it's not a nice thing to do.
>>
The wolf bounds up to your shell in a single leap, coiling and condensing and generally just breaking physics in such a way that lets her fit inside her usual spot.

You ignore it, re-purposing brainpower before you start trying to decrypt how she fit in there and hurt yourself.

You stalk between the wagons, checking inside and above, looking for feathers, or a snoring harpy, or someone who could tell you where your friend has gone.

You're fairly certain the answer is flying, seeing as she managed to sleep at night, and isn't curled behind you at the moment.

You make it halfway up the caravan before you catch a stroke of luck- The puffball that is your first friend is atop the lead wagon, talons carving divots into the wooden frame supporting the cover.

"Jin!"

It still weirds you out a little when her head twists all the way around to respond, but thankfully her body follows suit seconds later, her wings flaring and flapping as she glides into perch on your offered arm.
"Lyra."

"You look well, yes."
She preens a little, proudly.
"You look tired."

You shrug, the ghost of a smile on your lips.
"I do not think guarding suits me, yes."
"Mhm."
"Would you like to hunt?"

Her response is a great deal more enthusiastic than usual- Her whole body chips in with her bobbing head, her smile bright and sharp.

You pause for a moment, the momentum carrying you forward stymied for a second by your own halting thought process.

Do you bring anyone else? There's gotta be a handful of adventurers around here somewhere.
And probably bored, too.

You've been around enough of them to know that they don't all share your particular temperament, but enough of them seem to. Or at least aspects of it, anyway.

On the other hand, it has been awhile since you've run amuck with Jin and Sheszka.
So you bite down on any issues that your brain might conjure up, and put the question to the two of them.

They share a look for a moment, the wolf shaped yeti shrugging, and the harpy letting loose with a some cross between a squawk and a hoot.
Neither of which is an answer, really.

So it's a bit of a relief when Jin opts to express her opinion in an understandable way.
"Let's go! Yes, yes, yes! Go!"

Wings beating and feathers flying about, she urges you onwards and towards the forest, her excitement brimming over and chasing out her laziness for once. Even Sheszka is upright behind you, vibrating in place, ready to move at a moments notice.
So you roll your eyes and start to go.

People laugh and wave, Nin hangs from a wagon shouting good luck.
She's been disappearing often nowadays. You're fairly certain she's up to something, but you're not quite sure what it is, yet.
Investigation is probably in order, but you suppose it can wait. For now, at least.
>>
>>41102542
The shade of the trees is comforting, even if the smell of it all isn't as familiar as it should be. Different monsters, different plants- The whole thing smells cleaner, newer. Odd smells, for a forest. Maybe that means the monsters are fresh?

But they're always fresh, technically. Maybe not young, but you don't preserve them, you just eat them.

Maybe you should stop overthinking things and just punch a bear.
You nod once to yourself, determinedly, and Jin takes her cue to flap heavily, signalling you to hurl her into the sky like a harpy-bullet. Sheszka hops from your shell to the forest floor, and the game is afoot.

We need to have Lyra learn of this IC so she can have a proper horrified reaction to the possibility of no longer being a spider.
>>
>>41104041
Oh then i guess Lyra could just evolve into a dryad and you wouldn't be upset then? Since it's "Canon"
>>
Guys, reread last chapter: Sheszka is still a wolf, she's just freaking huge and has a different name.
>>
You loose your friends for the first time in a long while.

And loose they are- Hurtling down myriad trails, blazing through the sky overhead, so fast that it's hard for you to keep up, your attention wholly on following them, rather than any tracking of your own.

Trees and brush blur together as you move, chitin and armour clattering all together, green and grey and brown all around you.

Both cut hard right, Jin simply flipping herself over, wings snapping wide as she catches the air- and propels herself forwards again, shooting through the sky, a flock of birds scattering at her approach. Sheszka arrests her own momentum with a tree, the whole thing swaying with the force of her own speed, flexing as she kicks off it sideways, tearing through the woods at a breakneck pace.

Your own turn is far less graceful, though just as effective- You slow your pace just enough to not hurt yourself, digging a few legs in at the same point, letting the others leave earth for a half moment, spinning over them and correcting your direction, chitin clicking again as you chase after the pair.

You burst free from the confines of the woods, your speed such that you've near left the forest behind, a river running somewhere ahead, the brilliant golden glimmer of the plains before you not enough distraction to even register.

You surge across a stream, barely a foot deep, animals fleeing your presence, the thunder of your steps.

And then you reach a pond- a lake really, a waterhole-
And before you- Before is a herd of already fleeing bison.

Or, well, You could concievably call them bison.
But extinct or not, you distinctly remember bison being related to cattle. And having less horns. And hooves, rather than giant lizard claws.

>Find out what they taste like! Charge!

It... it has been. In the narrative. Just... just read it. Hell, read the beginning of this chapter. She's a wolf.

>You've got a herd-dog, of sorts. Corral them!
We have a growing dog, she will need her own Lyra sized meal now.
>>
>>41104073
Yep, REQM confirmed a while back that if we went down that route, Lyra could have lost the spider-butt and become more humanoid. She'd still be spidery, though.

>>41104074
I doubt it, since her magic wasn't anything nature-related, but if she went that way far enough she probably could evolve into something Dryad related.

That's kind of the whole thing about monsters in this setting. They are highly adaptable.

Utterly disgusting and also it would not be spider quest then

>>41104109
>You've got a herd-dog, of sorts. Corral them!
She can just run them towards us while we hold our ground. We're a giant spider, so we can totally hold off an entire horde of charging buffalo-ish animals.
>>
Well, here's hoping that all of these delicious meat animals in one place attracts a dragon or something otherwise entertaining to fight. It's been a little too long without action.
>>
Sheszka is still a wolf. Wolves will still recognize her as a wolf. People will see her ears and think 'wolf'.

But every evolution being Adjective X is a bit grinding, and I felt yeti properly summed up Size+power+colour+ice.

All it takes is a wave of your hand to send Sheszka flying towards your enemies-
Eager to test herself, to prove herself, to show you her strength, She throws herself into the bison-things midst without a care in the world, an eerie howl rising into the air as she begins her fight.

She circles, snapping in her wolf form, harassing them, driving them back.

Her chest inflates as she draws a massive breath, a blizzard bursting forth from her maw, washing the golden colour of the surroundings away, replacing them with frozen white.

And then the bull charges, through her breath, through her power, it's head lowered, it's skull alone the size of your body, already swing side to side, catching yoour friend, throwing her- There's a sudden and sickeningly unhealthy snap as she's thrown end over end, towards the herd, the lake.

You've already started moving, smashing a small bison out of your way, a bigger one starting its attempt to trample you, charging forwards- You brace, forcing it down, slamming its head to the ground below, driving the breath from it, twisting it aside, hurling it from your path.

Jin is a point of light, an inferno, a comet all her own, her voice silent- But her descent most certainly not.
The air around her screams as she pushes the limits of her own speed, all her power forward, down, a blazing rake across the bull's back, near lifting it from its feet with her efforts, leaving scorched and burning hair in her wake, already spinning back into the sky, speed bleeding away as she turns to dive again.

For all the people who keep insisting they want an elemental evolution, we pretty much never use our elemental powers in combat anymore. Like here, we're charging through a crowd of angry bovines, trying to get to one alpha which is much closer to our friend and can move at practically the same speed. The power of friendship will likely get us there in the nick of time, but seriously, why aren't we using our elemental abilities?
>>
>>41105640
>we pretty much never use our elemental powers in combat anymore
Except for how we use them all the time. We used them against the gryphon, in the wolf fight and against basically every monster before then.

Let's see
> Stone spike propelled spider jump
> Metal/Stone barrier to keep Sheszka from being mauled
> Lighting even a few of these wooly assholes on fire and then watching the chaos spread

Yeah. There's some potential there.
>>
Your attention splinters, slivers of concern for your friend warring with the fact that you are surrounded, even now charging into a crowd of enemies-

No.
It doesn't matter.

Your friend needs you. Now. And the rest is simply fluff- useless information, cluttering up your mind.

You move with all the skill your mother pounded into you, closing on the crowd separating you and Sheszka, already preparing to stow your spear. The more room they have to charge, the more dangerous they are. Your hands, your legs- They're the best weapons you have, now. Not the only weapons, by any means, but the clearest line between you and your goal.

But first-

Your spear arcs around, not a blow, not a thrust- the smooth movement ending with the razor sharp point directed straight to the so called bull.

The stone embedded in it, the runes and lines your father carved into it- they jump and glow, power blazing down the length of the weapon, jumping to the air, a crackling, furious roar as the lightning discharges, jumping between you and your enemy in a microsecond of blue-white light, the afterimage of it burning even through your closed eyes.

The beast takes it full in its side, turning to face you, charge you- the power smashes into it, through it, muscles trembling and jumping, the heat and fury of it burning away hair, scorching flesh-

And in the split second that the lightning takes to pass, Jin is already there, slamming into the beast like a bullet, knocking it from its feet, and explosion of her starry-eyed power, her fire, throwing her back into the air on thermals of her own creation.

One bison charges you, bellowing- You sidestep, bracing your fists together, driving your elbow into its neck as it passes, the beast tumbling end over end, flopping in the muddy dirt around you.
>>
>>41106006

You're already moving charging in, power swelling inside you- Your next blow augmented by stone and fire and the passion that drives you to give everything for the people you care about.

Your fist smashes into another beast careless enough to get between you and the wolf, the injured girl keeping her head above the water, one arm clinging to a chunk of ice of her own creation, the other limp and useless at her side.

You stomp, the ground answering you, throwing your enemies' balance, each strike, each kick knocking away another opponent, another obstacle-

>If they go down, they stay down!
>Scare them! They'll run and trample each other!

While there are a lot of bison-things, none of them seem like a very hard fight. The griffon was worth 8. We still need 6.
>>
The sight of her struggling to stay upright, above the water- It sets your stomach turning, every bit of your brain bent to ending it.
Your hand reaches out towards her, far out of reach-

For your physical body, anyway.

You're a bit more determined, more able than that.

The earth responds, a bridge pushing out, arching towards her, even as the water of the lake surges up and out, and platform racing from below, lifting her gently from the frothing water.

A bison tries to push you, but with no run up, there's no real power there- a few scrapes and scratches on your armour, the barest inches of movement as your legs tear furrows in the ground. You push the creature away absentmindedly, watching, making absolutely sure as your friend, your sister, picks herself up unsteadily.

And then you turn back to the field of animals threatening you and yours.

Jin is an unholy terror on the cows, the creatures barely able to turn their sloping skulls skyward, unable to ward off the harpy's talons, her fire and anger and starlight.

She drives them back and away and down, striking anywhere she has opportunity, injured creatures already starting to run, trying to flee before you.
Your eyes narrow, glimmering in the sunlight, and the patterns across your body pulse as you bare your fangs.

Ezzy occasionally opens her eyes when Lyra is up to all sorts of nonsense, and either convinces herself that she's dreaming, or just decides going back to sleep would be easier than dealing with whatever Lyra's gotten herself into now.

Nin is mostly playing with her new and totally secret abilities, as well as working on using her dust for all sorts of things.
