Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you decided on a destination, gave a full grown woman 'the talk', and learned to shoot lightning from your fingertips.

It is currently the 15th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

Though you'll need to have your door replaced, you feel this was a worthwhile experiment. This technique seems powerful, to say the least. Your Master told you as much. For now, you channel a bit of Earth magic to draw stone from your walls, using it to plug up the various holes so as to preserve your privacy until you can have your slaves get a replacement made to fit the frame.

With the fall of night comes the start of a new day, and if you recall correctly the directions Lilavati were to leave the wounds on your arm alone for a day. Now that a day's passed you're eager to see just what the markings will look like. Thus you retreat to your bed, taking a seat on the edge and rolling up the long sleeves of your Grandmaster's robes. The blood which stained your bandages has since dried to a dull brown, with points of red where presumably the ink has bled into the cloth.

You focus your will, letting vys seep into your limbs. Almost immediately you feel your skin starting to knit back together. It's an odd sensation, a dull ache which seems to pervade the entirety of your forearms. Normally you don't feel anything when you heal your wounds. Perhaps it's because the ink qualifies as a foreign body which your magic is attempting to expel?

Eventually the ache stops, and you start peeling away the bandages. The outer layer is mostly clean, but the more you unwrap the bandages the more stained they seem to become. The portion of the bandage in direct contact with your skin is caked with dried blood, excess ink, and foul smelling pus. Using a simple Manipulate spell you have it float off to one side of your room and then out of your window. Only once it's outside do you ignite the bandage, burning it to ash.

That taken care of you conjure Water from the air around you and use it to gently wash off the skin of your forearms, revealing the brilliant red markings which crawl up your arms. From your elbows down your skin is mottled bright red and black, the vaguely geometric, endlessly swirling patterns of ink forming twisting, hard to follow designs which ultimately link to the run on the back of your palm.

You note that small decorative notes have been added here and there, as if to fill space which otherwise would've been empty. A pattern of nine interlocking triangles all radiating from a central point and sitting within the bloom of a lotus is engraved on the crooks of your elbows. It's a familiar symbol, you see it often in shrines dedicated to Pani. It's supposed to represent the unity of all things within her domain.

You also note that the head of a trident, its radial arms curving gently inwards towards the central prong, has been drawn on your right wrist while a design resembling a wheel with eight sickle-shaped spokes has been carved on the left. The trident design is supposed to represent Pani's aspect as a goddess not only of life, but of death as well. The wheel-like design typically represents the sun, and by extension Surya.

If you want a visual reference, look up Mehndi. I couldn't find anything that I really liked but that's the style I'm going for.

Sadly you don't feel any different, now that you've healed the wounds. You feel neither more powerful nor less, though you do note that channeling vys feels a little easier and more consistent. You imagine you could probably channel far more without hurting yourself, were you to try. You suppose the easiest way yo test what the spell does, what 'Contain Life' might do, would be to kill yourself. However, that seems a touch drastic. What if they don't keep you alive, but just keep your soul trapped within your rotting carcass?

You push such thoughts from your mind and instead reach into your cloak, retrieving the map that Prema acquired for you. Even if you're not going immediately into the Pa'vala, it ought to prove an intriguing insight into the extent of Hiacia as well as the lands beyond, and perhaps even Elaudia as well? You can't truly be certain.

Pushing yourself off of your bed you take the sealed scroll tube up a short flight of stairs to the personal library you have in your bedroom. You note that Fulvia took the liberty of organizing it by category and author as well. Unfortunately these seem almost entirely devoted to old historical accounts of one battle or another. Presumably such matters held the interest of this mansion's previous occupant. Sitting down at a small desk on one side of the room you open the scroll tube and carefully extract the parchment from within.

TIME FOR CRAZY MIK SHENANIGANS
>>
Spreading out the map across the table you're pleased by what you find. From the Isle of Elda in the far north, the the distant lands of the Samrajya of Kulkarni far to the south, stretching around and below the Pa'vala. Within the Pa'vala itself you note five fairly large cities, all arranged more or less around the massive metropolis that is Hiacia. They seem to be linked by a series of roads, which are dotted along the way by villages and fortresses.

One road in particular runs from Hiacia, to Al-Harrak, to Sendra, and then through what is now a part of the Samrajya of Kulkarni and into the Elaudian jungles. For such a vast road to have been constructed, trade must have been truly thriving at the Empire's height. You also note that the map includes a large portion of the northern plains, including areas which seem to have been nebulously understood. One is labeled 'Lands of the Horsemen' and another 'Lands of the River Dwellers'. Neither of which are kingdoms which you're familiar with.

Curiously enough, it labels Chiron and its dominion the 'Land of Long Axes', while Anthus and its territory is just 'Grassland'. You wonder, had the ancient Hiacians really cared so little for humans as to not even bother learning the names of the neighboring human kingdoms?

Using a quill and a vial of ink you extract from your cloak, you spend the next hour or so properly labeling the lands of the northern human kingdoms, more for your benefit than anything else really. You also take the time to mark the locations of Rhynian ruins that you know of. That done you sit back to admire your work.

>>
You suppose you might wish to plan out a route, so long as you've got a map with all the major roads labeled sitting open in front of you. Three routes strike you as viable. You could travel south either by land or by sea to the city of Marqash and then travel east to Apejo. From there you'd just need to follow the road to Tel Lakud, which lies on the border of the Elaudian rainforest.

However, you might also travel south from Apejo instead of east and pass into the lands of the Samrajya. If you could get past the border patrols you could probably make it all the way to the ancient Hiacian road which vanishes into the Terra Incognita that is Elaudia. You wonder if the cartographer was simply lazy, or if not even the Ancient Hiacians truly understood what the jungles contained?

You might also buy a ship and sail south, bypassing the Pa'vala and the lands of the Samrajya of Kulkarni on your way to the Elaudian coast. Such a journey would be incredibly dangerous, as the coast of the Pa'vala is notoriously treacherous. Sandstorms have been known to rage with such intensity that the sails of ships are ripped straight from their mast, and the creatures which lurk the depths are said to make the dreaded hydra look like kittens in comparison.

>You'll take the safest route, journeying to the village of Tel Lakud and from there into the untamed jungle.
>The prospect of a road straight into the heart of Elaudia is too good to pass up. You'll risk traveling through the lands of the Samrajya.

Ooh, probably about a thousand individuals living in the city proper, with a few hundred living in the hinterlands either as farmers along the narrow river which runs through the city to the coast. Maybe 1,500 in all. Your family also controls two dozen or so fishing villages along the coast, and a trading town situated on an oasis which is the source of the river.

I'd say your family probably has about... 4,000 people living within their dominion. Providing them with a levy of about 800 or 900 men and an income of a few hundred gold a month.

>>
>>41139459
I'd say you'd have a few fruit orchards surrounding the city of Nazir, as well as lots of grain farms along the river. The oasis which lies at the source of the river is a hub of trade, merchants traveling from Marqash and Apejo to El-Amin stop there and load their goods onto galleys, which then sail their goods down the river and into the Bay of El-Amin. It's probably about a day and a half from the oasis to El-Amin by raft, as opposed to two or three days by land.

You'd produce a lot of fish and other goods that can be found in the ocean. Sea silk would probably be a big one, as would pearls. Most of your income probably comes from the taxes on trade with food exports coming in at a close second.

You commit your chosen route to memory. You'll travel south, through Nazir and Dombuk to the city of Marqash. From there you'll set off east along the road between Marqash and Apejo. You'll pretty much follow that road all the way to Tel Lakud, which provides the vast majority of lumber which the rest of the Shahdom uses. You should be able to find either a guide or at the very least some sort of map of Elaudia there. At the very least, you'd expect them to have the northwestern reaches mapped.

Once you feel you've memorized your route you gently roll up the map and slide it back into its sealed wooden tube. You feel good about this journey. The route you've picked is the main artery of trade within the Shahdom or El-Amin. It's frequently patrolled and well maintained. You're not passing into foreign lands nor are you risking life and limb trying to bypass the Pa'vala by boat. You'll also get to visit Marqash and Apejo.

Come to think of it, you might even get to visit some of your extended family. Your eldest sister lives in Marqash, she was married off to a powerful nobleman who lives within its borders, a warlord who reconquered one of the forts along the border between the Samrajya and the Shahdom. He granted the fortress to Satrap al-Latif in exchange for a cushy position in court with a hefty salary and a noble title.

Your grandmother lives there as well. She's getting on in years now, her hair turning white and her back growing hunched. You haven't seen her since you were thirteen years old, she moved to Marqash with your eldest sister in order to look after her health and ensure her marriage was a happy one. Apparently rumors abounded as to the nature of your sister's husband. That he was a cruel man who delighted in torturing his enemies. You've heard no complaint against him from your sister, but then again you haven't kept in touch.

Y'all retards can't even check the pastebin. Been there since Soma first made it.

Not really the IRC, I think I answered a question about it on tumblr.

But yeah, with just Manipulate+Vys+Ranged you could make an animal move as you command, but it would be clunky and draining. Like trying to move a puppet when you've no prior training. You've had this told to you directly, via the journal from that senile old Grandmaster you read. You can use this method to make people move as you command as well.

There are better methods of controlling animals, which is what I assume these folks are talking about.

Also, we should give our boy Zahak some gold.

Then, we should begin teaching him economics and merchanting, as well as making him more efficient when he casts spells.

>Economics in everything my boy. In speech, in vys, in force, in effort. You must seek to maximize your resources while giving minimal in return for your investment. For such is the way of economics.

Economics is love, economics is life.

I want Zahak to be a dragon lord of a Dragon horde, ruling over vast territories with statues of his father dotting the landscape.

Depends on what the gate insight is
>>
You rise from the small desk in your personal library and descend the stairwell to your bedroom proper. You could sleep, but why waste valuable time unconscious? No, no. You slept yesterday or the day before. You're more rested than you usually are. Thus you take up position on the small rug in the center of your bedroom, in a small depression just in front of the fire place.

With your legs folded beneath you, your back straight, and your hands rested gently on your knees you let yourself slip into a meditative trance. At first you consider meditating on Metal magic, or perhaps another esoteric application of magic, but instead you opt to look back on the past and analyze the time you spent within the Gate to Surya's Heart. You're still not actually sure what insight you gained from that entire experience.

As your thoughts drift the memory of that chaotic realm slowly comes to the forefront. It appears as a blur, you think you were only barely conscious for most of it. You can see the moment when the larval spirit latches on to your soul pretty clearly, though you don't think that was the moment which afforded you the insight into Fire magic. The larva, much like you, was being tossed around in the endless tunnel of raw, unfiltered Vys and slammed into the thin, distorted form of your soul. It bit down, latching on, and a thin needle shot from its mouth to anchor it to your soul.

You channel vys in an attempt to dredge more detail from your subconscious mind, and the memory slowly comes into sharper focus. You see your soul on fire, flame slowly consuming the golden, twisted shape of your soul. That stone shell you found surrounding the core of your being seems to be protecting the most vital aspects of who you are from the ravages of flame, but even it is being eaten through slowly but surely.

(1/2)
>>
>>41141300
Healing is based on self-image.
Certain drugs, spells and meditation techniques can alter a state of mind.
>>41141300
>>
However, for each piece of your soul torn away you seem to rip a replacement from the fabric of the gateway. Towards the end of the memory you see your soul slowly pulling itself back together, and just as it achieves some form of cohesion a hole is torn in the side of the gateway. You sense a massive burst of Fire magic the moment it happens. Your soul is sucked through the tear and spit out of the open gateway you entered through. At least, you think it's the same gate. To be honest they all sort of look the same and the void is pretty much devoid of landmarks. You may have opened a new gate, for all you know.

Though you can't be certain, you get the sense that the insight you gained was neither an insight into manipulating Fire magic, nor an insight into creating illusions. Rather you get the sense it had something to do with divine essence, or divinity in general, or perhaps it was a strange method of Fire manipulation. You felt as though you were burning away the very fabric of reality when you tore open that hole through which your soul escaped.

Regardless you're still not wholly certain, and you doubt you'll ever be certain unless you attempt to enter a Gate to Surya's Heart again. That is the true takeaway from this, you feel. That you need further experience with the Gates in order to understand the Gates.

When your eyes snap open you find that the sun has only just begun to rise. You imagine your slaves will be busily preparing breakfast, but you doubt anyone is yet awake. Except perhaps Darzi. In fact, that thought reminds you that you agreed to meet with her this morning to spar.

>Head down to the sparring grounds, if she's not there you'll wait.

>>35756275
Sezhade's Remarks, Fighting Void Creatures: The Varistha smirks, his tone amused when he speaks. “You've clearly never fought creatures from that hellish void before, Mikhael. Magic-” He pauses, running his fingers absentmindedly through his beard while he thinks. “It would be incorrect to say magic doesn't affect void creatures. Rather, magic affects them differently than it does you or I. Hurling a ball of flame into one of the six gaping maws of a three headed monstrosity won't do much of anything. It would more than likely strengthen the creature instead of weakening it. You'd be better served impaling it on a pillar of stone or stabbing it in its multifaceted eyes with shards of ice.”
The Varistha waves a hand dismissively. “What I'm trying to say is, void creatures are only truly harmed by physical means. Things like... oh, Earth magic's ability to weaken and erode objects, or Water magic's ability to freeze to blood in one's veins don't do much of anything to creatures. Nor do any effects, at least any effects I know of.”
>>35756302
The Varistha shakes his head. “Well, it's not as if stabbing them once or twice, or thirty seven times is enough to kill a creature of the void. Their bodies are rarely fully corporeal, as ours are. They can change their forms at will and usually heal at an astonishing rate. The only way to truly kill one is to rip its heart, its 'Core' out of... well, wherever it lies. Each creature is different, you understand.”

Power is always good, but diversity is even better. We can put down normies just fine, but we currently have little means to combat magical beings other than magic, the thing least effective against them. We need to advance our projectile capacities to deal with new threats.

Nature of Spirits and Entities: Spirits, the Varistha believes, are merely void entities which have escaped that horrid realm and adapted to live in ours. That's why older spirits are so similar to creatures from the void, according to the Varistha.

Read the quest nigga. Cat said spirits=entities too. Both are the most knowledgeable experts we have.

>>41141557
Note how the quote in >>41141587 explicitly only talks about Void Entities, not spirits. We don't know if spirits are easier killed through physical means or not.

>>41141698
Nah, mahanna confirmed that.
>>
>>41141654
Are you retarded? Spirits aren't the same as Void Entities you shit, that's why the cat was scared as fuck from Ricky as well.
Spirits were born in the mortal world and are tainted by it, we don't know what egfect this has on them but it was big enough to restrict their capabilities and cause the Exodus, and we know that the corruption is what cpmade spirits' minds comorehensible to mortal, while Void Entities' minds are entirely incomprehensible to mortals.
If you don't know shit, don't talk shit, all you have are assumptions.

Right. Just like niggers originated in Africa, moved to Europe, became master-race, and then ruled them for centuries. There is only minor difference between Spirits and Void entities. Say like a void entities ability to literally decay reality when it interacts with it. Or a spirits ability to create pocket realities, at least think its exclusive to sspirits, Ricky's space doesn't seem to be a different space than the Void in general.
>>
>>41141797
First of all, we read the Sehzade's memoirs and had long conversations about the spirits and entities with him. We know for a fact that they're really similar.

Next, Ricky was only threatening because Mahana took us to his pocket dimension. Ricky would have destabilized it and destroyed everyone in it.

The cat spirit rest its massive head once more on its forepaws, shifting its weight and making itself comfortable. “Elaudia was a polity in constant turmoil. The jungle is home to a hundred races, many of them quite similar and many of them entirely different. The Elaudians unified the lands and enslaved the vast majority of its populace, demanding sacrifice in the form of life to appease the spirits they worshiped. Nature spirits, most often. I cannot say what truly caused their collapse, or why the jungle is now uninhabited. I was imprisoned long before it vanished. I can tell you that it was not nearly as catastrophic as the collapse of Hiacia, nor as predictable as the fall of Rhynia, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.”

There, spirits all over the fucking wazoo.

Yes, I know, so? That proves that there's significant difference between them.

>>
>>41141882

This has got me thinking. Can we have a spiritual/temporal alliance with Mahanna and our son Zahak?

When Zahak grows to be a dragon in full, he will want to grow a horde and control vast swaths of territory. Can Zahak be a temporal leader of the earthly realm while having Mahanna as a spritual ally? This way, Zahak's power base would be secure from multiple threats and Mahanna would have a steady, secure power base from which to gain more followers and influence across the spirit realm.

Both leaders and armies would help each other when the time comes as well.

Think of it. A spiritual army to help aide a regular army, thousands of spirits descending upon an enemy advancing from the sky and earth. Think of the possibilities for Mahanna, thousands of soldiers entering the spirit realm and protecting his territory while he seeks to expand his spiritual realms influence.

They would be a hard pair to beat.

The Varistha grins, spreading his hands out in a pleading gesture. “See reason, Mikhael. I'm a Grandmaster five times over. I've spent twelve centuries accumulating knowledge and power. I've dealt extensively with all manner of spirits, acted as a mediator in conflicts most men will never even know exist. I was alive to see the ancient ruins that dot the landscape built. I believe I will meet my death on that forsaken rock in the Anthosian Sea. You're simply not ready to face a conflict on this scale and I will not-” He emphasizes the word strongly, putting force behind it. “-allow you to throw your life away on this task. Bitch nigger what? You gonna argue by fucking grammar now? It's pretty clearly what he meant by "mediator." Since, ya'know, it came right after "dealt extensively with spirits." Literally, right afterwards. His credentials are airproof. That's why we need a railgun. So that we can do this:

The Varistha stumbles, plucking up his spear and using it to push himself upright. He's take nasty cut on his shoulder, but doesn't seem to quite notice it. He reaches into a pouch on his side and retrieves a handful of small, glowing steel beads. Each one no larger than a marble. He lofts the beads skywards and they shoot off in every direction, leaving tracers of light in their wake. In an instant, dozens of those hulking beast vanish. It's with some concern that you note instead of vanishing, the corpses of those strange skull-faced monsters simply shift into full corporeality. They're men, and women, and even children as far as you can tell. The organ that sustains void creatures merely a parasite clinging to their necks.

The steel beads weave through the forest of impaled creatures, ending each one's life in turn as the Varistha limps towards the blackened cocoon of the King.

The point of the quote was to point to the fact that Elaudia worshipped spirits. Everyone who did worship spirits had a really good reason to do so. Rhynian Spirit Wars destroyed their empire. We can't even comprehend the sight of our gods. Since they worshipped spirits, there's probably an assload of spirits there. And we should prepare for that with anti-spirit power.

>>41142011

Expanding further, I think Zahak with proper influence wouldn't be a murder-hobo dragon king, but more along the lines of a Dragon philosopher king who has the unfortunate tendency to expand his power. Something like Paarthanax from Skyrim. With a group of dedicated advisors, Zahak could be a perfect Dragon-king ruling all of the former territories of Hiacia.

With the proper spiritual ally in Mahanna, he could be unstoppable.

Simply put, he is young and impressionable. We could be the King Philip/Aristotle to a Dragon Alexander, except he will never die.

A goddamn golden age could be on the Cusp for all Samjan, lead by Zahak.

Just a reminder that the Varistha spent some time in a temple in Marqash:
>Regardless you read on. That segment of documents seems to end and a new one begins, this one seeming just slightly less yellowed to your eye. Of course, it may simply be your imagination. It seems to be written as a sort of personal journal. He begins by remarking that he's been transferred to a temple in Marqash. He goes off on a long rant about how he's a veteran of the wars and yet his superiors are treating him the same as any other new monk. He's being forced to scrub the floors and tend the gardens and cook for the others. Always the last to be allowed to sit. He talks about how he could rip the spines from everyone in his temple and feast on their hearts instead.

Saw that coming from a mile away.

Anyway, I have a vague idea that you're arguing about whether or not the Varistha was one of the foremost expert on spirits and whether or not you can trust what he says. I'll put some of that to bed, since it seems like things are getting pretty vehement.

The Varistha was not one of the foremost experts, he was the foremost expert on spirits. He knew more than just about any other man or woman of any race in all the world. The only things more knowledgeable regarding spirits ARE spirits. Not to say he was right about everything, in fact I attempt to point out whenever Mik questions something in the Varistha's notes, but he's a pretty good source regarding spirits.

That spirit you made a deal with to secure the Varistha the power he needed to close the portal was hilariously more powerful than an Elder Dragon. That spirit could've bent an Elder Dragon over and had its way with its tender boipussy. Had it not been sealed, of course. In the state it was in when you dealt with it, it was barely able to act at all.

Anyway, I've fed and watered so I'll get writing,.

How correct is it to say that the Gods are the essentially the same as Spirits but on a vastly different power scale?

From the Pastebin:
>The highest spirits are the gods. It is they who were the original creators of the universe. They tore the shapes of the planets, the stars, and the creatures which inhabit all of creation from their very being. However, their first and most beloved creations were called Children, as they're made of that which was torn directly from the gods. Their creations are in turn called Ancients, and their creations Elders. After that come the Progenitors, and it is from the Progenitors that true Spirits were born.
>>
>>41142433
Oh, is that what you're fighting over? Yeah, spirits are totally weak to physical attacks. I mean, weaker than they are to non-physical attacks. Nonphysical attacks like a blast of flame or trying to rot their 'flesh' will do less than nothing, more likely to make them stronger than kill them.

But stabbing them in their core with a broken pencil will kill them in one hit.
>>
>>41142433
No. But there is the small fact that the most knowledgeable being in the world said to use physical attacks on them and killed hordes of them, as well as a Void Entity King, using physical attacks.

Placing the blade across his lap, the Varistha assumes a meditative pose. His spear shoots towards the King of these creatures, grasped within frozen fist. The King panics, the mist vanishing and reappearing in the form of a protective cocoon. However, the spear pierces it with little issue and when it shoots out the other end, it carries with it the figure impaled on the end. It grasp the haft of the weapon with long, clawed fingers even as its flesh begins to flake away, revealing a semi-solid shadow of black mist, the same mist it was using to assault the Varistha you'd imagine.
>>
>>41142385
Do spirits share the same resistance to magic/vulnerability to physical means that Void entities do?
>>
>>41142448
>Those Progenitors which have left the void are often quite similar to spirits themselves. They are tainted by the mortal realm, twisted into caricatures of their true selves. This taint corrupts their minds into a cruel mockery of mortal thought, making them at least slightly comprehensible to mortal minds. Spirits as most mortals know them were born in the mortal realm and corrupted from their very conception, thus they are not quite so wracked with madness and mutation as the Progenitors.
The gods are not corupted.
Spirits, as we use the term, divines in the mortal realm, are corrupted.
They are different.
The gkds arenit even Void Entities, much less spirits.

Yeah, a void entity's core could be fucking anywhere. Under their right elbow, behind the knee, you can never know man. It's different for each one. That said, the Varistha seemed able to sense their location.

An important distinction needs to be made between a Void Entity's 'core' and its core of divine essence. The core is a physical thing, it allows them to enter the mortal realm without succumbing to mortal corruption. Nobody is certain whether it's a natural adaptation or something spliced onto them by another entity, but every void entity you've faced or seen has had such a core.

Spirits lack this core, but the trade off is that when they're wounded they bleed their essence. When their essence is depleted, they 'die' and revert to their larval stage. Just as void entities 'die' and revert to their larval stage once their core is destroyed.
>>
>>41142793
>but every void entity you've faced or seen has had such a core.
Even Ricky?
>>
>>41142811
Ricky does not, actually. Good point. He lacks a core because he's never had to physically enter the mortal realm entirely. Just pushed his tentacles into the mortal realm.
>>
>>41142821
Why is Ricky such a bro

>>41142793

>>
>>41142898

>>
>>41142866
Nature magic doesn't work on spirits since they don't produce vys.
>>
>>41142821
Soma, if we battle one of the weakest ranks of spirits and defeat it, can we bind it to us or something? Have it gather vys for us/produce it and giving us more control/power to our magics?
>>
>>41142898
I was going from here >>41142460
>Yeah, spirits are totally weak to physical attacks. I mean, weaker than they are to non-physical attacks.
>But stabbing them in their core with a broken pencil will kill them in one hit.

But them again I'm tired as shit so I probably got confused at some point
>>
>>41142971
Nah, I tend to conflate spirits and void entities. The differences are subtle, but yeah. Spirits don't have cores but are still week to physical attacks. Void entities do have cores, and are also weak to physical attacks.

Almost done with the post, shouldn't be much longer.
>>
>>41142990
So cutting up a Spirit will cause it to "bleed out" eventually and die (revert to larva stage) that way.

Cutting up a void entity won't cause it bleed out and die, but stabbing it's Core will instakill it (revert to larva stage).

Am I getting that right?

If you get breakfast and spend the rest of the morning getting punched in the gut and thrown across the room, you're just going to throw up. No, it's best that you head down to the training room either to meet Darzi or wait for her, then get breakfast after your morning work out.

As you push yourself to your feet you feel pain shoot through your legs, a remnant from yesterday's sparring session. You simply channel a little water magic to dull the pain, as you've been doing since the session itself. You imagine once you stretch your legs a bit the stiffness will subside. You briefly strip off your Grandmaster's robes and stuff them into your cloak, leaving you in trousers and a tunic. After all, you don't want to risk tearing your robes.

When you open your door you find that the shrapnel propelled from your door after it was struck by the bolt of lightning you produced has been cleaned up. You imagine that Prema has already sent a slave out looking for a replacement. Stepping out into the upstairs hallway you can faintly hear her voice filtering in from the entry to your estate, though you can't make out what she's saying. You pay her no mind, instead making your way through the gardens and into the tower just on the other side. Descending the stairs brings you promptly to the training room.

You find Darzi setting up the training room, already awake. She's wrapped her knuckles in bandages and has already had a pitcher of ice water and two cups set out on one end of the room. Currently she occupies herself erecting the wood and straw practice dummies, which seem to have been either replaced or repaired, you can't be certain which. When you saw them yesterday they were beaten to scraps, but today they look pristine.

>>
You kick off your boots when you reach the edge of the training arena and roll up you sleeves, partially to show off and partially because you'll need as much freedom of movement as you can get if you hope to even land a hit on Darzi today. You really do wish to land at least one punch, rather than suffering the absolute embarrassment you went through yesterday.

Darzi stands up straight once she's finished sliding the base of the last training dummy into a receptacle in the ground, stretching her back briefly. She jumps, but only slightly, when she turns around to find you waiting with your arms crossed in front of your chest. “Pani's tits, Mikhael. I didn't hear you come down. I wasn't expecting you for another hour at least. What's gotten your lazy ass hauled out of bed so early? Looking forward to getting your ass handed to you?”

She's grinning like a cat with a mouse between its paws. You're not sure whether to be frightened or vaguely aroused. Regardless, before you can deliver a quip of your own she snatches up a practice spear from a rack against the wall and tosses it your way before retrieving one for herself. You just barely manage to catch the length of wood, fortunately without embarrassing yourself.

Darzi stalks into the center of the training arena and presses her spear against the ground. “Today we're going to do some weapon's training. I'm sure your handy enough with a spear but there's always room for improvement. We'll start with a warm up, just going through forms. This will be a true warm up, not that hour long torture I put you through yesterday. I mean, the unarmed forms are essentially the same as the spear forms, so you've nothing new to learn.”

responsibilities that we can ignore, unless its in our interest, which it will usually be. Because he would likely be willing to reward us for something he wants done, if anything more generously since we would be his disciple. along with when he gets more, he would pawn off much of the work on them.
>>

Nah, combat insights aren't the same as meditation insights. A great success basically means you gain the insight AND look good in the process. A regular success means you get your ass whipped/need to call it early/just sort of generally don't stand out in the process even though you still learn something regardless.

I may institute some sort of system where a Great Success means you're really catching on quickly and gain 1.5 insights or something like that, but honestly I'm still fleshing out this combat system. Not quite used to it yet.

In the very beginning, we had the option to pick from

>You were a Vatis, skilled in manipulating the energy that resides in all living things.
>You were a soldier, a master of the Marsala Ve.
>You were a merchant, growing wealthy off the trade of sea silk, pearls, and coral.
>>
>>41143449
You had the option to be either a Vatis, a Merchant, or a Warrior. Incidentally, if you'd gone with either merchant or warrior you would've started off married to Vasuda, or rather formerly married to Vasuda. Upon becoming Aghtaki all contracts would be annulled, including marriage contracts.
>>

In thread 1, we picked the reason we were banished and what our primary occupation was. The choices were Vatis (Mage), Soldier, or Merchant.

A portion of his power is in the vault.
Once he gains back that power he can eat the other spirit he currently has the dead body of. And he then gains a 50% increase in power. After getting back to 100%, and as far as we know whats in the vault could be a majority of his current power. Easily making him the top tier in his current rank if he wasn't already or the low to mid rank, of the Sarcova the highest class spirit.

Looking back now, its interesting to see how different this quest could have been based off of decisions in the first thread. Nearly everything we've done has been related to or in pursuit of magic. Rank only has to do with when you were born. It doesn't necessitate power. but usually there should be a bottom line of power between ranks.
But Spirits ranks don't mean as much, considering there could be a Atma Stronger than some Sarcova's.
>>41143676
Anon, i want disciple. But I do think that it scales, and not just additive every time.

Actually, the cat spirit could consume the other now if he wanted to. He just won't get as much power from it as he would if he had his vault essence back.

>His voice rings out. “Without the lost piece of my essence locked away beneath the city of El-Amin, I will not gain as much from it(The defeated spirit) as I would like, were I to simply consume the spirit. I may incorporate his being into my domain, wave it into the realm itself. Thus fortifying my realm against invasions. I may consume him in the end as well. It is an ongoing internal debate. If I do consume him, I estimate that I will be at least... half again as powerful as I am now.”
>>
>>41143782
Yeah i never said he couldn't do it now, but it makes sense for him to wait till he gets his full power, so he can fully digest every ounce of power he can from the dead spirit.
And it should make him quite the power player, among his kind. Which is what we need, not some bitch that would lose to varvar like atma, or his current weakened form.

Yes, and being a nature master seeing from different angles.
Being able to sneak up behind him, with some vines and shit. While distracting him from the front.
Also being able to go full muscle bro at any time with training. But becoming a mage you have to have the potential for it. At least to get anywhere considered good in it.

>>41143876
It's funny, if we didn't start as vatis we would likely have died by now.
>>

Ahh but here is what I am thinking. We need to know the hold/contain rune and the liquid rune. Then since enchanting is just basically us being insane believing that something is occurring when it is not it should somewhat work. At least to have it constantly full of whatever liquid we decide.

Also as a side note: if we are able to actually do this to a barrel or something we can sell it as a tap at a bar and name it "Name bar: were the liquor never runs out."<not going to try and spell our name>

You step into the training arena, beginning to go through the motions of the forms you learned yesterday. Every now and then Darzi stops to correct your stance or instruct you on the finer points of a form, but for the most part she doesn't see the need to stop and tutor you. The fact you've managed to get the forms down well enough that you can do them without being constantly told what you're doing wrong fills you with a sort of pride.

You notice throughout the warm up that Darzi is eyeing your tattoos, though she doesn't say anything about them until you both stop to get a sip of water before launching into properly sparring. You're both reclining against the wall when she reaches out to run her fingers along one of the man curving lines which paint your forearm red. “Is this why you were wearing bandages on your arm yesterday?”

You nod, sticking out your arm such that she can get a better look. “Yup, you know how I killed a dragon right?” She looks taken aback, and it's only then that you recall you haven't actually recited this story. “Well, to be technical I killed a beast which killed a dragon and so killed it by proxy. Anyway, after passing through the realm of the cat spirit on my journey from Anthus to El-Amin I got turned around in a maze which ultimately led to me exiting the spirit realm to the southeast of El-Amin, near a tribe of nomads journeying from the edge of the Pa'vala.”

You recount your time spent with the nomads, of revealing the dragon corpse and the subsequent honor that was bestowed upon you. Admittedly you gloss over certain aspects, like how you passed out when you were getting tattooed and had to be paralyzed. You explain that the runes on the back of your palm are supposedly an enchantment, though you admit you're not wholly certain what it does.

(1/3)
>>
Darzi raises an eyebrow curiously at the conclusion of your little tale. “So you had symbols engraved on your skin using dragon bone and possibly poisonous alchemical regents without actually knowing what those symbols meant or did?” She pauses, before shrugging her shoulders. “Well, honestly you've done crazier. This isn't that bad in the broader scheme of things. I will say they look good on you, not nearly so tacky as some of the tattoos I've seen men get.”

You've no doubt she's seen quite a number of ill considered tattoos. She was in the City Guard after all. Guardsmen and sailors are notorious for painting themselves with naked women, poorly spelled Rhynian words, pointless symbols, and any number of other displays of their own idiocy.

After you both finish your water you get back into it. She takes up position on one end of the training ground while you take up position on the other. The next three hours are spent getting whacked across the face with the blunt end of a wooden spear, stabbed in the abdomen by dulled blades, smashed in the knees, kicked in the ribs, thrown to the ground, and being the victim of any number of other punishments. You realize that yesterday Darzi was holding back, but today that is not the case.

Again you're forced to use Water magic to stave off exhaustion, but you're proud to say that towards the end of the lesson you start to land a few blows of your own, and actually block attacks. You knock her on her ass twice, though each time she quickly recovers. Towards the end of your morning work out you take a nasty crack across the face from Darzi's spear and wind up laying in the sand for perhaps the thousandth time today.

(2/3)
>>
Darzi dives forward, spear raised to strike. It swings down, slamming into the arena floor right next to your head. You flinch despite yourself. You find yourself with Darzi standing above you, the majority of her weight leaned against her spear where it's buried in the sand. “I think-” She says between ragged breaths. “-we should call it a day.”

You channel just a touch of Earth magic to have the sand shift, throwing off her balance. She falls on top of you as the spear is twisted from her hands. She swings at you with a fist, but it's a clumsy blow. She's disoriented. You manage to catch her by the wrist and, since you're feeling particularly bold, press a hand against her lower back. You twist your frame whilst holding her body to yours, such that you find yourself positioned on top of her.

The look on her face makes it worth the slap you get. You didn't think her ears could turn that red, especially considering how dark her skin is.

Untangling yourself from Darzi, you push yourself to your feet. As you reach down to offer her a hand up you can't resist a little good-natured ribbing. “Now we can call it a day. You just made yourself too irresistible a target. You understand, I'm sure.”

She takes your hand reluctantly and you pull her to her feet. “Rude, Mikhael. Just forcing yourself on top of a woman. You're lucky I have more self control, otherwise I would've kneed you in the groin. It was almost too irresistible a target to pass up.”

You spend some time cleaning up the training ground together, raking the sands and putting away the unused practice dummies. Then you both get a drink before ascending the stairs. It's perhaps eight in the morning, and the estate is starting to come to life. When you exit into the upstairs hallway you spot Mortia, Skull Kid, Fulvia, Profectus, and Tertia sharing breakfast downstairs in the dining hall.
(3/4)
>>
Darzi glances towards the bath, and then towards the dining tables below. After what seems to be a brief internal debate she clears her throat. “You may take the first bath, Mikhael.”

"Oh please, we've seen each other before enough I think. Or is this about my comment from last time? I assure you, I was merely teasing. Don't get me wrong, I think you're an attractive woman. But if my intent was to woo, I'd be trying to win you through the famed Abdul-Hakim extravagance, not mere nudity."
>>
>>41144469
Did you forget, we have darzi?
And our son is also learning water magic.
Chys knows some water too.
prof i'd have to check his stats.
Mortia knows some water, and she may be coming with us to the jungle.
easily we will have plenty of capable healers once we get to the desert.
>>
>>41144517
Both only Expert. Not enough to stop mortal wounds.

Hell both of them working together couldn't regrow a limb.
>>
>>41144469
I like Aisha, but I think it'll best to leave her in Anthus. We don't need our party even bigger. We'll come visit her and the baby when we're less busy.

And Darzi is currently Expert level in Water magic, so she can serve as a proficient backup healer.
>>
>>41144517
to make a correction.
Expert Rank Water Vatis
For our son, that nigga is capable as fuck with water. He just needs more practice healing.

Wow. I hope your a troll
>>
>>41144544
Backup gotta be at least Master on the way to GM.

We should train Darzi up in Water till she's Master. With us supporting her in her meditations we could do it.
>>
>>41144564
Not him, but I don't think that was supposed to be seductive.
>>
>>41144510
cringeworthy

>>41144500
Better. Hilarious, but better.
>>
>>41144590
That was terrible dialogue no matter what the intent.

Keep practicing guy.
>>
>>41144587
That sounds like a great idea. We can repay her for teaching us all this Marsla Ve. An we do need a skilled backup healer who can save our ass if we go down or help the party if we're away.

Need Cardio and dodge training

We'll just try to fit it in whenever we stop for the night. Just generally do what Darzi does.

Speaking of which, when we train with her tomorrow we need to bring that up. Ask her what we'll be doing for fitness on the road.

I don't understand how you can be this dumb. Cardio is needed so you don't collapse after a few minutes of hard fighting. Fighting is tiring yo.

And no one wants massive bulky muscles. You need to be toned and cut. Fit with low body fat. Bulky makes you slower and slower is deader.
>>
>>41144955
You must be some sort of fag

You smirk, nudging her goadingly in the arm. “Oh? Where did this come from all of a sudden? You seemed rather unconcerned sharing the bath yesterday. Could it be that you liked what you saw, perhaps liked it a little too much? Here I thought you had more self control than I.”

She holds up her hands in mock surrender. “Hey, don't you go pointing fingers at me. If anyone liked what they saw yesterday a little too much it was the man hobbling out of the bath with a cock so hard he could've beat a man to death with it.”

Honestly you're a little taken aback. You hadn't expected to hear such crude language from a woman like Darzi. Your cheeks burn, but by the time you manage to formulate some sort of excuse she's already walking away. She waves to you over her shoulder, almost as an after thought, before calling out. “Try not to have too much fun alone in there. I don't want to have to send Profectus in to check on you. Oh, and do keep in mind those drains are terribly difficult to unclog.”

Gods damn her, something about that woman always robs you of your usual wit. Sighing wearily you turn towards the stairs to the baths, descending the spiral staircase to the partially underground chamber which houses the estate's bathing facilities. You strip quickly and spend a few minutes soaking in the cold bath, letting your muscles relax and the pain recede before moving to the warm bath. There you unceremoniously anoint yourself with scented oils and scrape your skin clean. Finally you finish up by soaking in the hot bath.

Only as you slide into the scalding hot water do you finally feel your embarrassment at losing that little verbal duel recede. Instead you turn your thoughts to the rest of the day. Of course you'll have breakfast after this, but after that your day is open.
