You are Jareth, Disciple of Elshhu, Goddess of the Beauteous Form. Today you are engaging in your second foray into the exciting world of adventuring. Having been offered a job to retrieve some artifacts from a tomb uncovered beneath a brothel, you sallied forth with your adventuring party, now with the (temporary?) addition of your sister Rihara, to make some gold defiling the resting places of the dead. While some members of your party are eagerly gushing over the thrilling historical merits of the place, you're more interested in how much you can sell some of these knick-knacks of a dead culture. You're not archaeologist, you'll leave it to the people you sell it to to decide whether any of this junk belongs in a museum.

Of course setting aside the inanimate funerary objects and grave goods, you have come across a rather more mobile piece of Neburian history, the false god Stone-Swimmer, slain during some sort of exciting event which you sort of tuned out while it was being explained to you, just made itself known, or at least something which looks a lot like it did.

“You know it's a fake, right?” Razi comments.

You glance over to Rihara, your sibling folding her arms and looking distinctly unimpressed by the apparition which just sunk into the stonework.

“Yeah, got to agree with Razi here, if this Stone-Swimmer was as powerful as they say, we would've felt that mana from a mile away.”

“It would make sense as a means to scare people away from the tomb. Showing something which, to the late Neburian Empire's tomb robbers, was one of the most horrific beings they could imagine,” Iden nods.

“Well whatever it was, it was still solid, not an illusion, so don't get too relaxed,” you shrug, glancing around the room.

It really is bare in here. It looks like you've got some smaller side rooms, holding the desiccated remains of servants and their belongings, or you could push on ahead through the larger corridor at the far end.

You already know you're going to regret giving fuel to this fire, but you suppose survival dictates that you have little choice.

“So this Stone-Swimmer, what do you know about it? What's its purpose, goals, strength and weaknesses, that sort of thing.”

Valia's mouth opens almost immediately, and you hold up a hand.

“The abridged version, please Valia.”

“O-oh, okay, um... well the Stone-Swimmer was one of the three false gods of the old Neburian empire before its reformation. The leading theory is that they were powerful demonic entities masquerading as deities, although, um, some have suggested they were sorcerers or perhaps fragments of a real god's power. E-either way, they controlled the early Neburian Empire, and, um, they were not nice gods, lots of human sacrifice and awful things like that. Um, I- I don't know what their goal would be, really, the destruction of the Neburian Empire would make some sense, but, well, th-that already happened.”

Listening to Valia's explanation, you lead the group towards the side rooms, most of the things here are close to worthless, tools, cups, pots, perhaps it would have some value to the right people, but you're not carrying around a full set of Neburian tableware when you still have the rest of this place to poke around in.

“I don't think anyone really knows about weaknesses, they were unstoppable, until they got killed by the prophet of the new Neburian pantheon, and all we know about him was that he was an insanely powerful priest channelling the wrath of two dozen deities. So, I guess that would be their weakness. Your goddess got any divine wrath to spare?” Iden asks, sliding aside a mummified body to rummage through the stone box it was propped up against.

>>
>>41154438
“Elshhu has kicked a few asses in her time, but I don't think she's going to be giving me any unimaginable divine power, right now at least.”

“Figured. So strengths is all we know, which is that it has power over stone, it played the part of an earth god. If it was the real Stone-Swimmer though, I figure it would have already brought the ceiling down on us by now, or something equally messy.”

Your group come together to look over the loot, a handful of old Neburian coinage, some sort of miniature fertility idol, and a piece of copper jewelry. Not exactly wealth to be retiring on, but what can you expect, the good stuff should be further in.

“Okay, if this thing can pop out of anywhere, and use its earth powers, we don't want to be close enough to all get taken out at once, but I don't even need to explain to you why splitting up is dumb I hope?”

From the expressions of your party, seems they are in agreement there.

“Great, so stay in a loose group, close enough to all see each other, but not too close.”

“So I take it Seffi's scouting ahead, but who's taking the lead? Those are narrow corridors.” Iden asks, glancing over to the opening at the far side of the chamber.

Nope, I have her near back for a reason.

This false god can rise up anywhere and might strike our center hoping to get the squishiest of us and cause confusion and panic.

Lose formation would allow the heavy hitter (us and our sister) to rush in whenever while Valia not being in the center would mean she doesn't get murdered when the middle gets struck.

Hopfully Iden can handle a surprise.
>>
“I'll go first, Razi, you behind me, then Iden, then Valia, and Rihara bringing up the rear.”

“That sounds reasonable, just take it slow, the Neburians really liked trapping their tombs,” Iden comments, kind of wish you had a thief, but at least you're quick on your feet.

“So how likely is it that some of these old corpses are going to get up and try to kill us?” Rihara asks, as your party starts off down the corridor at a slow, cautious pace.

“It's, uh, not actually all that likely. Um, the Neburians, at least the post-reformation Neburians, had a culture which focused heavily on death as passage to the afterlife, um, there were quite a few mass burnings of necromancers and necromantic texts under several Neburian kings. It's a common misconception, that they were powerful necromancers,” Valia explains.

“Well that's a relief.”

“Instead, they summoned up demons and elemental spirits and, um, things like that.”

“Okay, that's less of a relief,” your sister sighs.

The corridor is long and plain, the wall carvings illuminated by the flickering light of Rihara's magic, but without any side rooms or passages to speak of. You feel like it's sloping down ever so slightly too, so who knows how deep under the city you are right now.

“Does anyone else feel like they're being watched?” Iden asks, a nervous tone creeping into his voice.

“I don't sense that thing nearby,” Seffi explains, the spirit drifting through the air ahead of you.

You glance back over your shoulder, spotting at least one predatory figure lurking behind him, but hopefully one with at least enough sense not to start trying to cop a feel in an ancient, possibly cursed tomb.

“I... suppose it's just my imagination then.”

(cont)
>>
>>41155016
Finally, the corridor gives way to a vast chamber, putting the room from before to shame. Vast pillars stretch up to a high, vaulted ceiling, illuminated by a pale blue light from crystals set into the stonework. A central walkway leads up to a raised dias, atop it sits a collection of instruments and trinkets, all bronze and gold, including from the looks of it, the telescope you were asked to recover as an optional extra. Flanking the walkway are a series of mummified bodies of men in armor holding spears, motionless, somehow standing by themselves.

More important than any of that though, is the strange figure in the centre of the chamber, unnaturally tall, lanky and emaciated with pallid skin stretched tight over its bones. It floats above the floor, cross-legged, three arms resting in its lap, a fourth holding up a dusty book as it thumbs through the pages idly. Most strange of all of course is the large ram skull in place of a head, the eye holes illuminated with a dull green light.

As you step in, the strange figure gives a deep sigh, not looking up from its book. “No matter how many times you come here, my answer is the same, my contract was very clear on-”

The head raises slowly. “Hmm, oh I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else.”

“That's a Lorekeeper, a demon of knowledge, it must have been bound here as a guardian,” Razi whispers behind you, though this time you didn't need the prompt, you heard more than enough about demons during your Sunbringer days.

“So, what brings you here, humans? Looting? It's been a long time since any tomb robbers graced us with their presence,” the demon asks, closing the book, which turns to shadow and dissipates in its hand, leaning forward to rest its skeletal chin on a fist.

“Hey now, we're no tomb robbers. Tomb raiders, or adventurers, would be a more accurate definition,” you reply, holding up your hands.

“As you say, it's all much the same I'd imagine,” the demon replies, looking as nonplussed as an ominous skull with glowing eyes can allow.

“You had a lot of robbers, then?”

“A great many, yes, at least for a while, then they all just stopped coming. Can't imagine why, there's still plenty to steal here, and no era wants for fools who consider plundering tombs to be a reasonable way of earning an income. No offence.”

“So if a lot of robbers came here, then a lot of traps would have been sprung already, right? Are there many left?”

“Hmm, well I really couldn't say, I only guard this chamber after all,” the demon replies, cocking its head as it stares at your group.

“So wait, if no tomb robbers have been here in all that time, who did you mistake us for?”

“Rohtan, or his pet monster. Can't be long now before they make another attempt to seize the treasures. I'm not complaining mind you, our skirmishes are about the only source of entertainment I have these days.”

“Rohtan, as in the man entombed here?” Iden asks.

“Indeed, though he's not in his sarcophagus these days, so I wonder if entombed is entirely accurate.”

“I don't recall anything about Rohtan being a necromancer,” Valia pipes up, earning a derisive snort from the demon.

“He's no more a necromancer than a housecat is a lion, to think that he wasted all that power on such an inefficient form of immortality. If only he were a necromancer, he might make for more interesting company,” the demon sighs.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Well, I could speak further, but I find myself questioning what I receive in compensation...”

Oh here it comes, you'd wondered how long it was before this topic came up, a gregarious demon is still a demon, after all.

“If you're so bored here, is there a way we could sever your ties to this place and send you back where you belong?”

“Not unless you can break the bindings laid on me by the Neburian royal summoner, or control time, my contract was quite clear on its length.”

“Okay, then we'll go with the obvious. You've been stuck down here a long time, so how about some information on current events, new innovations, things like that. I could even tell you a few stories of my own, though I warn you, my field of expertise is of the more carnal sort.”

The demon floats in silence for some time, considering your words. The longer the silence goes on for though the more uneasy you become, this is a demon after all, and a clever one at that.

“So, human, you are offering me an exchange, I will provide you with information on Rohtan and his pet in return for your knowledge given freely to add to the Forgotten Archive?”

“So, that was some very specific wording, huh?” Rihara comments. You can't help but agree...

“I'm offering to verbally convey accurate information of my choosing to you in exchange for information about Rohtan and his pet.”

The demon sighs, raising its top two arms and drawing forth a leatherbound book and a quill from the air.

“Fine, I suppose I'll have to write it down myself then,” it grumbles.

You can't help but feel like you avoided something very unpleasant there.

“So, current events and new innovations were some of the things I believe were offered. First of all, I would be curious as to the state of the necropolis, you are clearly all of non-Neburian heritage? Is the necropolis no longer under Neburian control?”

“The Neburian Empire fell a long time ago, probably around about the time you stopped getting tomb robbers. The only reason we found it was because the entrance got unearthed a few days ago,” you shrug. You're sure Valia would be better at explaining all this, but he agreed to hear it from you, so he'll just have to accept what information you can give him. You run through a vague outline of history from what you recall from the lessons of your youth, the demon scribbling away as you speak.

“I see. Well now, what fascinating millennia I have missed. I suppose such information would already be in the archive, but until such time as I can return to my home plane, it is nice to have such records on hand.”

“I think that's enough for now, I believe you owe me something in return,” you reply.

“Yes of course, Rohtan, a poor excuse for a necromancer who squandered a vast store of mana on some backwards and incompetent reanimation ritual. The royal astrologer had an interest in the necromantic arts, it seems, but given the late Neburian Empire's loathsome tendency for burning necromantic tomes and those learned individuals who penned them, he lacked a solid foundation from with to develop his research. Research born of pride and fear of death, he pieced together a ritual to ensure him undeath from scraps of knowledge gleaned from poorly copied tomes, poorly translated Susserite scrolls, and the ravings of madmen and charlatans professing arcane wisdom. There would have been no way such a worthless spell could have succeeded, were he not blessed with a valuable artifact with a vast store of mana to allow him to inelegantly brute-force his way through the rules of life and death.”

“What sort of artifact would allow that? These aren't laws that are exactly easy to toy with,” Iden asks, the young necromancer frowning deeply.

“You are correct of course, only something of unimaginable power could allow such a thing. For example, the corpse of a being of vast magical power.”

“The Stone-Swimmer?”

“Indeed, the would-be god from a more savage yet enlightened time for the Neburian Empire. Rohtan tapped into the mana within the carcass directly, linking it to his immortality, bringing it back to some mockery of life in the process.”

(cont)
>>
>>41156624
“So wait, that's the real Stone-Swimmer? But if he had something like that at his disposal, surely he could have done more than hang out in a tomb for all these years.”

“As I said, inefficient and fearful. He was mired with doubt, worried that if he tapped into the mana further, it might burn him away to nothing, or drain his source of immortality dry. So here he's sat for all these millennium, while his ritual slowly but surely sucked the Stone-Swimmer's mana reserves dry. I'd give him another two centuries at most, less if he exerts himself making many more attempts to reclaim his belongings from me.”

“So the Stone-Swimmer's mana is mostly gone now?”

“...and it has no means of replenishing it. It's tragic in a way, seeing a powerful being like that reduced to little more than another petty ghoul with a magic trick up its sleeve.”

“So, do you have further information you wish to exchange? I'd imagine dissecting this encounter will keep me preoccupied for several centuries to come, but I am always happy to continue.”

“If we were to take the telescope from the dias, would you be compelled to stop us?”

“Not just the telescope, I am compelled to slay anyone who lays hands on any object resting atop the dias,” the demon replies.

“What do you want to do, it's only like, fifty gold? That's ten each, hardly seems worth the effort for fighting a demon,” Rihara asks.

“Well, we'll see. Firstly, do you have any information on defeating Rohtan and his pet that you could exchange information for?”

“I do, after you offer your information.”

You sigh, sure has been a lot of talking on this adventure, and not even to an attractive demon. Sadly people don't tend to bind succubi to tombs though, so what can you do. You give a vague overview of present religions in the Great City as the demon dutifully scribbles in his book.

“Fascinating, I recognize some of the names, but not all, although it is possible that some might have simply changed identities with the passage of time, I suppose. That aside, I shall now give you information on defeating Rohtan and his pet... You have to destroy Rohtan.”

“...what?”

“It's nothing that complicated really, Rohtan's form of undeath is hardly a competent or powerful one, inflict sufficient damage to his body and it will shatter his ties to the living world. He's not lich, that's for sure. When he's dead, the Stone-Swimmer should die again as well.”

“They enjoy passing dangerous information and magical knowledge on to those who will use it for ill,” Razi comments.

“Yes well, there's nothing more dull to write about than peaceful times, if the free spread of information aids in making times more interesting, then all the better,” the demon chuckles, a low, dusty tone. Friendly or not, it's still a demon after all.

“Well then, we'll leave you to your reading.”

“Do feel free to come back any time,” the demon replies, the book and quill fading away in its hands.

The journey to the far end of the room is a tense one, and you can tell that all of your party are wondering if the demon is going to pull some last minute ambush on you, but true to his word, he does nothing, leaving you to pass by and out into the corridor at the far end.

“I think we made the right choice, um, demons are very dangerous,” Valia chimes in.

“We'll save the fighting for when we reach Rohtan.”

Continuing on down the corridor a way further, you find a series of side rooms flanking the central passageway, looking to be private chambers for the belongings of important servants and officials in Rohtan's employ, according to the more academically minded of your group.

“Okay, we'll search the rooms two by two, just make sure you don't stray out of sight of each other,” you explain, gesturing for the party to begin.

“No problem, we'll check over here,” Rihara replies, putting an arm over Valia and Iden's shoulders and dragging them off into the left hand chamber.

“We... we don't need to be that close to search, you know,” Iden mumbles, poor boy's turned bright red.

Razi sighs, wandering into the right hand room, and you follow her in. Looking around, you see a few belongings set up on display around the mostly bare chamber, and a sarcophagus at the far end. Razi pokes around at some of the objects on display, looking deeply unimpressed by any of them, while you wander over to to the sarcophagus.

“Do you think it's trapped?”

“I'm no thief, why not open it and find out,” Razi replies, picking up a small carving of a hawk, turning it over in her hands.

“Your support is, as ever, appreciated,” you sigh, testing the edge of the lid, feels weighty, but you could probably shift it with a little bit of mana.

“If you die, can I have your body?”

“Please Razi, if you want my body, you don't have to wait until I'm dead, if anything, I think you'd enjoy it more beforehand.”

You can actually feel the air cooling behind you at that one, apparently Razi does not appreciate your witty banter.

“So that's a yes?”

“No can do, Razi, I already have plans for my body. I'm going to donate it to the Temple of Elshhu, to be preserved and used as a visual aid for those who are having trouble becoming aroused, that the world may appreciate me long after my soul has gone to my goddess' side.”

Razi puts the carved hawk down, turning and frowning at you.

“You're not even joking, are you?”

“I never joke about my body, Razi.”

You pat the sarcophagus lid.

“Anyway, come help me shift this thing.”

Admittedly, with Razi's slender body, you doubt she'll be adding much muscle to the equation, but you get the feeling you should preserve as much mana as possible right now.

“Fine,” Razi sniffs, putting her hands on the edge of the lid. You join her, feeling a pulse of mana boil up from your heart, crackling down your arms.

You don't know how heavy this thing is, but there's no way any normal people would be lifting it off without magic. Razi huffs from the strain, feet skidding against the stone as you push, until with a cacophonous crash, the lid falls to the ground. Looking to the fallen lid, you can see why it weighed so damned much, looks like the inside was lined with a thick layer of iron, for some reason.

Ignoring that for now, you turn your attention to the inside of the sarcophagus itself, the mummified remains of some important servant or other lying bound up in bandages. More interesting than that though, is the wealth of golden jewelry and belongings surrounding the corpse, the rewards of a lifetime of service to the rich and powerful.

“Razi, I think this adventure is finally paying off,” you grin, pulling out a golden amulet set with a sapphire, this thing has to be worth fifty gold all on its own.

“Great,” Razi replies, looking none too excitable as she inspects her nails, frowning at one where the dark polish has chipped, a slight flush in the pale girl's cheeks from the exertion.

“You need to learn to enjoy moments like these, Razi,” you sigh, going back to gathering up some more trinkets.

“I'm enjoying it just fine,” the necromancer sniffs.

Rolling your eyes, you turn to respond. Your eyes widen, Razi stands, still frowning down at her nails, back towards the wall, a pair of long, gnarled hands stretch out from the stonework towards the girl, a grinning, dessicated face pushing forth into the chamber.

The Stone-Swimmer, shit, it snuck up on you. You have only a split second before it strikes.

You move without thinking, a burst of mana snapping and sparking through your muscles as you drop the amulet, seizing hold of Razi's hand, the necromancer giving you a wide-eyed look of surprise as you pull her towards you, away from the claws of the Stone-Swimmer.

Razi gives a pained yelp as the claws snag on her hair, tearing some strands loose as they pass. She stumbles forward into your arms, the two of you backing away, Razi drawing her sword as she turns. The Stone-Swimmer's leer gives way to a snarl as it hands there, halfway out of the wall.

“Razi!” you hear a shout, Iden sprinting from the other chamber, Rihara and Valia not far behind.

With a noise of annoyance, the Stone-Swimmer raises a clawed hand, and the doorway to the chamber twists and roils, snapping shut a split second before the others can reach you, sealing you and Razi inside the chamber with the creature.

Sneering, it turns a clawed hand upwards, beckoning you forward with one curled finger as it sinks back into the stonework, the wall of the chamber melting away, forming a rough staircase down into what looks like another chamber below.

“We got careless, it split us up,” Razi frowns.

“I thought that demon said it didn't have much mana left, that was some pretty hardcore magic,” you reply, glancing back to the misshapen stone of what was once the doorway.

“Perhaps its master is desperate, he might think we came here to kill him.”

“Ah, thank goodness you two are okay,” a voice pipes up, the ghost Seffi floating through the wall.

Razi glares up at the ghost, who shrinks a little under the malevolent gaze. “Useless, weren't you supposed to be keeping watch.”

“Sorry Razi, I swear I was, but it's hard to check every angle at once, and I think it's getting wise to me,” the ghost replies, giving an awkward smile.

(cont)
>>
>>41160139
“Well that aside, can you tell where it is now?” you ask, before Razi can bore a hole in the poor ghost with her glare.

“Yeah, sure can, it went down that way,” the ghost smiles, pointing down the newly opened staircase.

“So what now?”

“Well, the stone's solid, and Valia says she can't make a portal without being able to see through. So, either wait here until they can break through the stone somehow, or keep going. I can come with you... I mean, unless you want to be alone,” Seffi explains, raising a hand to her mouth to cover a smile.

You were wondering how long it would take Razi to notice the fact that she still had her back pressed up against your chest, but you didn't really want to comment. She may be a bit skinny, but you can feel some definite curves all the same. With a sharp intake of breath, Razi steps forwards, glaring back at you, which you meet with a smile.

“Of course you can stay with us, Seffi,” Razi replies, a little too fast.

“Well, guess we're waiting for them to break through then,” you shrug, patting the stone of the sealed doorway.

“That could take a long time.”

“You'd rather go running off after that thing with just the two of us?”

“Three of us.”

“My bad Seffi, three of us,” you smile up at the ghost.

Razi frowns, sheathing her sword and crossing her arms.

“Fine, we'll wait then. Just make sure you keep watch better this time, I don't want to have to spend the whole time we're trapped here on edge,” Razi snaps, pointing up at Seffi, the ghost giving an enthusiastic nod in response.

“So, how do you want to pass the time?” you ask, drawing Razi's glare to you.

“We wait, in silence,” Razi replies, sitting down on the floor and glowering into the middle distance.

“Seriously? That's what we're doing?”

No response, apparently she really meant it. Rolling your eyes, you take a seat up against the wall next to her, Seffi floating in the center of the room watching the pair of you, and keeping watch for the Stone-Swimmer. The minutes tick by with agonizing slowness, Razi motionless save for the occasional twitch of her eyebrow or shift in the exact shape of her frown. Sighing, you lean your head back against the wall, looking up at Seffi, who beams back at you.

You don't know how long has passed before Razi slaps her knee and gives a sound of frustration. “I'm bored. How long is this going to take?”

“It's a solid stone wall, it's going to take a while.”

“I'm losing my mind just sitting here doing nothing,” Razi huffs.

Well, looks like she's finally willing to be more entertaining company.

Also just saying but best position to wait in if breaking the wall down doesn't win is with our backs to each other, either standing or sitting, or something.
If the wall ends up being broken down, then just have Razi watch us as we work while Seffi pays attention to the place behind Razi.
>>
Also also, easiest way to find the spot to work on on both sides of the wall, have Seffi stick her arm through it while it's straightened out, Jareth and Rihara start working at the spots where her body leaves the stone.

“I want you to know that I was against the whole 'waiting in silence' plan from the start.”

“I shudder to think what you consider to be good conversation,” Razi frowns.

“Well let's see, I know almost nothing about you and your brother, and despite your judgemental snarkiness you really don't know me. So how about we swap a few stories while we wait. I mean, unless you want to go with the other time-killing option...”

Razi sighs, staring up at the ceiling.

“There's nothing to say about us, we grew up in Golden Rock, we lived as best we could, then we came here for a fresh start.”

“That's a bit of an abridged account, isn't it. I've never been to Golden Rock, but I'd heard plenty about what a rough area that is.”

“Everyone likes to talk about places like Golden Rock as if they were drawn up straight out of hell, but there are still good people living there. Or there were, anyway.”

You glance over at Razi, noticing a soft edge creeping into her sharp expression you haven't seen before. She looks a little lost, then as soon as it appears, it's gone.

“It went to hell in the end though, so we left before it dragged us down with it. Your turn to share,” she frowns, fingers digging into her leg.

“We were Sunbringers, Rihara and I, not that I recall ever being given a choice in the matter. That's what happens when you grow up in the compound I suppose.”

“That sounds boring.”

“Boring isn't the word I'd use, painful perhaps, but not boring. Our mother is a Sunbringer, a respected one at that, and she wanted us to be the best damned Sunbringers ever. You ever fought a Render?”

“As in a lesser demon of wrath? No,” Razi replies, brow knotting.

“I first fought one when I was eleven, they had it bound in a circle in the moonlit bastille, my mother took me down there and tossed me into an arena with it, told me I needed to start learning how to fight evil early if I wanted to grow up strong.”

“You expect me to believe you beat a Render at eleven?”

(cont)
>>
>>41162213
You snort, shrugging. “While I am amazing, and was amazing even then, no eleven year old is going to beat down a demon. No, it broke both my legs, knocked out half my teeth, and blinded me in my left eye. Lucky me that the Sunbringers have such powerful healers, eh, otherwise I wouldn't have been well enough to fight it again two days later...”

There is a long silence, Razi staring up at you.

“That's messed up. This is why I don't trust holy warrior orders.”

“You don't trust anyone,” you grin.

“Not true, I trust Iden, even if he is a short-sighted idiot.”

“He does seem very fond of you,” you smile.

“I wish he was a little less fond of me, he's going to get himself hurt one of these days trying to look out for the both of us.”

“So what did the two of you do to get by before you were adventurers anyway? Plenty of work for necromancers I suppose, depending on how much of a moral code you've got weighing you down.”

Razi shakes her head. “We did what everyone did if they wanted to get ahead in Golden Rock, we joined a gang. The Dust Alley Ghouls, we were members since we were... I don't know, nine or ten, maybe, not proper members obviously, but we were hanging around them since then running errands and such.”

“You learned necromancy from the gang then?”

“The gang leader, yes, he was... a good person.”

Razi's getting that look in her eye again, so you figure it would be a good time to steer the conversation back into comfortable ground.

“So what're you planning to do from here? Keep adventuring, or are you just gathering together some gold for some other plan?”

“I'll figure something out. You?”

“I have no plans at all, but this adventuring business is fun, and I was lucky enough to join up with some charming party members, so I'm not going anywhere.”

(cont)
>>
>>41162236
Razi sighs, studying her feet intently.

“I suppose, all things considered, this party has been decent. At least I don't have to worry about you plotting, since you are incapable of thinking anything without saying it.”

“Please, I am a deep and complex individual.”

“Fine, so what are you thinking about right now?”

You grin.

“Some sort of depravity then.”

“Well, I was contemplating how to get my mana back, since we're likely to be throwing down with the Stone-Swimmer soon.”

“We're not fucking, if that's what you were implying.”

“Please, my mana recovery is a little more open than that, there are countless ways to regain it, the important part is a build-up of lust and sexual tension.”

Razi sweeps some strands of hair from her face, studying the stonework. “Fine, so what sort of things would give you mana back?”

“Hmm, all sorts, aside from straight up penetration, oral, handjobs, really any sort of intimate physical contact with some feeling behind it. Hell there doesn't even need to be contact if the feelings behind it are strong enough, like if I was watching someone get themselves off, even stuff like streaking, or dirty talk. The limits are only your imagination.”

“I am amazed, your faith has developed what may be one of the most complex and efficient methods of mana recovery in the world, and it's an excuse for degeneracy.”

You smile, turning your palms up and shrugging. “With Elshhu, it's never an excuse, the act is one of religious devotion and joy in the beauty of life, which also happens to be great fun.”

“So even kissing would work?”

“Sure.”

What, your Sunbringer training? Effectively it was just "push you and your sister to the limits of what the human body can withstand without actually dying, heal, then repeat, over several years."

If you mean your Elshhuan training, you know a fair bit, and the temple should have some holy books to help fill in the blanks in training regimes.
>>
>>41162517
Yeah the sunbringer training, since the entire reason we're such a badass is a ridiculous regimen combined with the most efficient mana regen in the world in a way that was never intended or expected by basically anyone over, the key to further producing lesser but similar badasses isn't in the Actually-Relatively-Easy Elshhuan part

Yeah, like I said, lesser-but-similar badasses. Ideally worked out to a degree where it could basically self-replicate through training by those who had gone through the training themselves, and also voluntary. Though seems like really the limit would be lack of access to healing?

You smirk, reaching down to take a gentle hold of Razi's slender hand, a slight flush rising in her cheeks as you lift it to your face and plant a kiss on the pale skin.

“That's it?” Razi mutters, even as you feel that familiar tingle of mana drawing into you.

You respond with a smile, entwining your fingers with hers, sliding the fingers of your other hand up her arm, pulling back the sleeve and revealing the soft skin beneath. You feel her shiver slightly under your touch, and you follow it up by kissing the underside of her wrist, along her pulse.

You feel her other hand come to rest on your knee as you turn to face her properly, the two of you still kneeling on the floor of the chamber, her face inches from yours, excitement or embarrassment, or some combination turning the tips of her ears bright red against the white of her pale features.

“Just a kiss, understood,” she whispers.

“Just a kiss,” you reply, Razi's dark eyes closing as you lean in, your lips meeting hers. You feel her warm breath tickling you as the two of you press together, her fingers entwined in yours squeezing tight as you linger.

It's a long kiss, but a chaste one, still you feel the mana sparking in the air around you, and as you draw back, Razi's eyes are lidded, lips parted, a heat burning within.

“Was that enough mana?”

“Not quite.”

This time you don't need to lean forward all the way, her lips meet yours in the middle. You raise your free hand up, brushing back long strands of dark hair as it slips down over her face. There's more passion in this kiss, more heat, yet still it remains strangely chaste, and still you feel the crackle of mana in the air as she pulls back.

“How about now?”

“Not quite yet.”

In her enthusiasm, she damn near headbutts you the third time, pushing you down onto your back as you lock lips, sticky with sweat and saliva, her hand slipping from yours as she reaches up to tangle her slim fingers in your hair.

“Do you want another?” she whispers, breaking away for a moment.

You respond by pulling her down into another kiss, her body pressed up against yours, as you feel every inch of her slender frame, her palm-sized breasts and the two hard points digging into your chest. You feel yourself start to harden in response to the stimulus, as her lips part to let her tongue slip into your mouth. Your tongues explore, caress each others mouths, the haughty girl showing a hunger you wouldn't have expected from her.

Your lips part at last, a strand of saliva linking your mouths for just a moment before it breaks. Razi leans forward, next to your ear, her breath hot and heavy.

“It's okay... this isn't my first time,” she whispers, her other hand finding its way down inside of your pants, long slender fingers wrapping around around your swelling shaft.

Razi gives an 'ah', as she closes her grip on you, an odd grin curling up the corners of her mouth.

“Something on your mind?”

“I shouldn't say, your ego is big enough already, let's just say that you won at something which I'm pleased you won,” Razi replies, giving a hard tug, almost more painful than pleasurable... almost.

Odd girl, oh well, you aren't going to complain if she's happy.

“Kiss me again,” she breathes, leaning down to meet your lips, just in time for a loud sound to issue forth from the doorway.

Razi springs off you with a speed you wouldn't have thought she was capable of, leaving you lying on the ground with a raging erection and a feeling of intense dissatisfaction. Oh well, no sense dwelling on it. You pick yourself up, Razi smoothing down her hair, looking over to the doorway, where a slight crack has appeared in the stonework.

“I think the air must be getting thin in here, I wasn't thinking straight,” Razi mutters, head turned away from you.

“Woah, that was... woah,” a third voice chirps, Seffi drifting above the pair of you. Oh right, she was here the whole time, huh.

“Don't worry, I won't tell,” the ghost grins.

With another loud sound, the crack widens, and you hear a voice through it, Rihara's voice.

“Jareth, Jareth are you there?”

“Hey Rihara, yeah, I'm here, we're fine.”

“Thank the gods, you had me worried you dick, now once I get this widened out a little more, come stand in front of it one by one and Valia can portal you through.”

“You heard her,” you say, looking over to Razi, the necromancer turning to face you at last. Hmm, seems your impromptu makeout session did a number on her makeup, which is now noticeably smudged.

“Are you going to do something about that first?” Razi frowns, pointing down to the obvious tent in your trousers.

“Nah, it'll sort itself out before too long.”

Then the hole snaps open wider, and you find yourself pulled through a portal in one strange moment of vertigo, reuinted once again with the rest of your party.

Rihara sweeps forward, locking you up in a firm hug. “I thought something had happened to you, asshole.”

You grin, returning the hug. “Please, I'm not that easy to kill.”

“Yeah...Jareth?”

“Yeah?”

“Is that your dick?”

“Sure is.”

Rihara breaks away, as Iden looks from you pitching a tent, to Razi's smudged makeup, and back again.

“You know what, I don't even want to know,” he sighs.

Thank you all for playing.

Next time: Finishing the dungeon, getting paid, and probably getting laid with someone.

I can hang around for some Q&A if people have questions to ask.

Thanks for running! Why did portal girl say anything? Overheating from lewd implications?
>>
>>41163458
Yeah, probably.

>>41163462
Yes, lewd implications had rendered her speechless and red-faced.

DEAR ELSHHU WE HAVE TO CHOOSE?!
>>
>>41163572
Elshhu wants you to follow your dreams, anon.
>>
>>41163601
What's Elshhu look like anyway? Does she have a fixed appearance or does she manifest as what you most desire or something like that?
>>
>>41163696
i think she might be a non evil Slaanesh
>>
>>41163396
Who did Razi sleep with? She can't be that old and was it with the leader?
>>
>>41163696
Elshhu changes appearance at whim, though she has a few "popular" forms, which are what tend to be turned into religious icons.

You know that the temple nearby has twelve statues, four of her human forms, two of her elven ones, two of her dwarven ones, one of her halfling ones, two of her orcish ones, and one trollkin one, all taken from the shapes she wore in various religious myths.
>>
>>41163796
Anon that would be telling, you'll have to find out in-character.

inb4 Iden got aroused at the sight of that mighty erection.

Well, although it said leave it to them, really Rihara was the only one with powers that could bust down a wall, so she burned through a big chunk of her mana.

8, you are currently on 47/50

>>41163941
can we get a list of ages for our party
>>
>>41164343
Jareth and Rihara are both 19, you don't know the exact ages of your party members, except that Valia is probably somewhere in her early twenties, and Razi and Iden are probably a little younger than Jareth.
>>
>>41163941
Did we grab the loot out of that sarcophagus?

We better have, or we're going back for it. That was a lot of dough.

Well, it's been implied that Iden's at least a little attracted to Jareth, to his confusion. Correct, Lordy?

You did, yes.

>>41164546
There have been some implications to that effect, yes.

It's less that I'm tired and more that on the one hand it's 3am but on the other I doubt I'll bother to get out of bed before noon in any case.

For Bunt, life had never been good, lousy guild job, he didn't even want to join the foundry guild, but his family were hardline guildsmen with a proud history of metalworking, so what choice did he have. He was forty now, still working the same damned smelting pit, with the same damned coworkers, and going home to the same damned cheating wife.

At least that's how things had been, until Kebber over two pits along had told him about the Scaled God. Now Bunt wasn't one for religious bullshit, sure he'd pray to the gods that mattered to his life, the forge god when he didn't want to die in a horrific work-related accident, the gods of gambling, drink and good fortune the rest of the time, and maybe he'd jerk it to the occasional Elshhuan text, but really who didn't? This Scaled God stuff was bullshit, but it was bullshit which would give him a chance to get a little bit of excitement in his life. The guys up top, they had pull, and they looked out for the little people, he'd earned more gold in the past month than he had in a lifetime, and he was finally putting those foundry muscles to good use, grabbing people, hot women mostly, tossing 'em in a sack, and handing them off to some high up cult guy who smelt like fish.

Tonight was the night for another grab, another easy night's work for good pay, the cult made sure it never even made the news sheets, they just disappeared. Bunt was out with Kebber, some ganger loser named Vek, and some balding elf (did elves even go bald) named... El-something, fuck knows.

“Hey, you see that, jackpot,” Kebber grinned, slapping a hand against Bunt's chest, nodding over to some girl struggling to get her keys into a door in the shadows of a side alley.

“You think she's a virgin, that bonus was sweet last time,” Vek asked.

(cont)
>>
>>41165399
“No way she's a virgin with an ass like that, gods damn,” Bunt smirked, as the four of them skulked into the alleyway.

“Having trouble, missy?” El asked, dumb elf, why not just sneak up on her and club her, that always worked best.

“Yeah, you could say that,” the woman replied, still fumbling with her keys, failing to turn it in the lock.

Damn, what a body, Bunt was almost sad he had to hand her over to the cult.

“Looks like your lock's busted,” Kebber smirked, circling round to the far side to cut her off.

The woman finally seemed to realize her situation, pulling the key slowly from the lock, her shoulders bunching up as the four men surrounded her.

“I don't think that's the problem,” the woman whispered, Bunt liked that voice, low and scared, it made him feel like he was finally someone to be feared.

“Oh yeah?”

“After all, this isn't even my house,” the woman turned.

Bunt had never been a quick man, he knew that, so it took a few moments to register exactly what was going on, Vek was screaming, El was screaming, he thought he might be screaming too, Kebber wasn't screaming, probably on account of that heavy iron key lodged in his windpipe.

“Oh holy fuck, what is happening!” were the last words of Vek before the top half of the ganger damn near evaporated.

>>41165421
Bunt didn't even stop to see what happened to El, but that elf wasn't screaming for long. He ran and ran, stumbling blind down alleys, he needed to find the bridgeway, get to civilization, get back to the guild, back to other people, what was he thinking, trying to pull this bullshit, he wasn't dangerous, he wasn't smart.

He skidded to a half, seeing the world drop away as the old street abruptly gave way to sheer cliff, looking down on the sea between the isles. His arms windmilled, grabbing at air, and just as he was about to plummet, he stopped, a strong grip on his arm as he dangled over the precipice. He turned to look, a masked figure, a figure he recognized all too well, she was half his size, but she seemed to fill the whole alley, looming larger than life.

“Tell me, Bunt, do you believe in justice?”

“W-what?”

“Justice. Righteous retribution upon those who commit evil?”

“Please, I don't know, help me, I'm sorry.”

“I cannot help you, Bunt, for I am justice.”

Bunt never felt it when he hit the water, apparently his killer believed in a quick death.

-

Some time later, a figure climbed in through her bedroom window, tugging off dark magically-armored cloth and leather. She stared into the mirror, no injuries tonight, those four were pure cannon fodder, the cult was just recruiting anyone these days, they wouldn't get her closer to the men in charge.

“...for I am justice.”

A blush rose in her cheeks, she groaned, burying her face in her hands. Had she really said that? She really wasn't cut out for dramatic speeches, from now on she was keeping her mouth shut. She groaned again, louder, trying to banish the memory from her brain, summoning up a hammering on her wall.

“Shut up in there, I had a long day.”

“Oh like you're one to talk,” she snapped back.

She'd apologise in the morning, right now she was going to get some sleep and dream of a world without evil, and one where she could actually piece together a good catchphrase.
