Last time, on Feral Necromancer Quest: You planned improvements for your keep. you held a hell of a party. Never failing a single diplomacy roll, you managed to improve your relationships with every other tribe in the region. You made plans for establishing roads between you, elves and dwarves. As the hangover wore off, you came upon a massive Drow invasion force. The battle went well and you were coming up ahead, especially with the boost your new bear form allowed, but just as you were going on the final sortie to victory, the elven elder fell. You decided to give him a proper, ancient elven burial- burial at sea. That is where the eighteenth installment of Feral Necromancer Quest concluded.

The Cast

Vlad Tepish: You, a necromancer, who after being exiled from his tribe, found a ruin belonging to a dead elven necromancer. Armed with ancient knowledge and magic you are on a quest for immortality (among other things)

Bathory: Your lover. Trying to bring her back to life was what lead to your exile in the first place. The process of preserving her spirit was, unbeknownst to you, excruciating, and she hated you for a long time. You have given her an immortal alchemical body. You have repaired your relationship with her, and you love each other dearly.

Lathrien: Your erstwhile hostage, now a friend and an apprentice, Lathrien is an elf and becoming quite a capable Necromancer and Shaman.

Melandie: Elven huntress and berserker. She joined up with your party on her own volition. She recently was left in charge of your ruin and ended up slaughtering a number of drow. She is uncertain as to how she feels about this.

The elven elder. A kindly old man, his face was wrinkled and his hair grey. You had not ever seen an elf as old as him before. Now that you think of it, he was the first person to not see you as an irredeemable monster. He was the first to reach out his hand in diplomacy. And the fucking drow killed him. You will bury him, but the drow have one thing coming for them. You, specifically.

>Preserve the body the best you can. Wipe out drow, all of them. Then return to the burial.

It is time to kill a tribe and a species. These creatures have been annoying and irritating you for a long while now, and you have had enough. Rage is not an emotion you enjoy or feel often, and what you are feeling now is not rage either. It is cold. What you feel matches the landscape outside. Dead trees and frozen earth.

They cannot stand against you.

Well, if you put it that way...

You are in this together. You always have been.

'Lathrien, preserve the elder's body, we shall be departing for the funeral within a week.'
'Vlad Tepish? A week? What will we be doing for a week?'
'Killing drow.'
'I understand the feeling, but, well, won't it just make them more likely to attack us again?'
'You do not understand. We will be killing all of the drow.'

He looks quizzical, then he comprehends, and then a dark, somewhat terrified look comes over his face.

You gather Melandie and Bathory. They are understanding, to a point.

'Can you even do it? Will it not be dangerous?' Bathory says.
'Have you seen me fight?' You say.
'Yes, of course, Vlad, what of it?'
'I do not intend to fight them, Bathory. I will bury them under the mountain, or I will freeze them to death, or I will think of some equally terrifying fate. You have not seen me try to kill a tribe.'

Bathory does not show it, but you are uncertain whether she approves. You can only hope she is angry enough to understand at least. Melandie just looks convinced and ready.

There is some preparation to be done before, of course.

>Imbue your undead with elemental magic. This will take a while, as you have to do each individually. (choose element/number of undead to enchant)
>Craft totems (what kind, how many?)
>Scout out the drow caves with one of your homunculi.
>Other preparations
>>
>>41265312
>Make 2-3 raise dead totems
>shove them inside the ribcage of the dead necromancers

How does imbuning undead with lighning, and calling down rain when we fight, sounds?
>>
>>41265312
>Craft totems (what kind, how many?)
Can we make Imbue element totems that a few skeletons carry into battle to buff the rest?
>>
>>41265482
Totems work with evocations, imbue element is a ritual.

You doubt you shall be taking direct control over the raising of the dead and engaging in direct combat. Clearly the drow are the most populous race nearby, and you will want to at least soften them up before engaging them directly. This might involve sending your undead quite far away from you. If you stuck some totems imbued with the energies you use to reanimate the dead in the ribcages of the drow you've raised, you could mitigate the lack of direct control of your raisings. It should rise any drow that dies by their hand within minutes.

You will not be able to control them, but you believe you will not need to. Any undead that is uncontrolled attacks all living things. You do not know why and do not feel like contemplating the implications. You craft five totems, one for each of the reanimated drow necromancers.

The journey will take two days each way, provided you can find the drow fast enough. You gather supplies and bid your farewells to the remaining delegates. You set out before nightfall, casting illusory light to show you your way.

You feel no need for stealth and so you march hard and fast. It is not until the afternoon next day until your break your camp.

The anger within you has died down somewhat. You will carry out what you decided, and you are tired as sin, but you feel you could break the silence that has been the status quo of the journey so far.

'So, I understand I might have come off a little... cold lately.' You say.
'Oh thank fuck the not speaking thing is over,' Melandie says.
'So, we are really doing this?' Lathrien says.
'Yes. That is the plan, in any case. If anyone here has any reservations, please feel free to voice them,' you say.
'Vlad, I just want to know that you are doing this for the right reasons,' Bathory says.
'I am doing this because the drow are evil to the core and need to be stopped. I am doing this because they killed my friend. And above all, I am doing this because if I do not, they will do so again,' you say.
'So, it is not the rampage of a tragedy-bound hero?' Bathory says.
'I have never claimed to be anyone's hero,' you say.
'But you're myyyyyyy hero,' Melandie snarks.
'It is good to see you have not lost your sense of humour. It is a serious task we set ourselves to.' you say.
'Fuck it. Killed them before. Will kill them again. My sword wants the blood.' Melandie says.

Well. You hope she is merely coming up with another inappropriate joke.

'So, er, what is the actual plan?' Lathrien says after ten seconds.

>Soften them up with elemental rituals, clean up the remnants
>Send your undead down the tunnels, set up ambushes, use the darkness in your favour

'I see. There might not be many survivors, but...' Lathrien says
'Yes, there will be some. We will clean up in the traditional fashion.' you say.
'Sounds good enough, I guess,' Melandie says.
'I feel somewhat left out,' Bathory says.
'Well, I guess I merely did not want to leave you out of this.' You say.
'Oh that warms my mechanical heart to hear you say that, Vlad.' Bathory says.
'And Melandie. Could I just confirm that the blood-thirst of your runeblade was merely a joke?'
'Sure, kind of.' Melandie says.
'I am afraid I will need to know more than a 'kind of'' you say.
'It, eh, it just feels good to swing around, and to hit things with. It's not like it is taking control of me,' Melandie says.

This is so not going to end well. This is not exactly the time to argue about this at this point.

'We have been riding hard for a long time now. Let us turn in for the night.'

You awake and the journey to the mountains is much less tense than yesterday's ride. You see the mountains and know what must be done.

Hello, /tg/dice, my old friend.

Endurance Nat 20! You have gained Endurance 1! Awareness Critical Convergence. Unlikely and weird shit happens! Awareness 2 [2/3]

You have all been travelling much lately and the trek across mountains is easy for you. Between your and Lathrien's shaman training, Bathory's enhanced body and Melandies skill you make good time, moving as fast as over open land.

You reach the peak of the first summit when you hear a screech. You look about and you see an eagle. At first you are surprised to see one so low to the ground, but quickly you realise that it is merely a question of perspective. The creature is large, massive, nearly the size of the young dragon you faced months ago.

'A Roc? That's supposed to be a fucking children's story,' Melandie says.
'Most of the things we face daily are.' you say.
'Yeah, but fuck knows how much of those stories are true.'

'Eagle! Great Roc! May we pass?'

The roc screeches once more. Then it dives towards you. You get ready to jump out of the way, but with little space to spare the great eagle breaks and lands, heavily, yet safely next to you.

On the ground you can appreciate its size properly. You are not one to get intimidated. You are stoic in the face of any danger. That beak is really large and sharp, however.

The roc looks you in the eye. It shakes.

Then it bumps your hand with its forehead on the arm. Softly, for a creature its size, though you have to focus to keep your balance.

It screeches again. It sounds a little like 'Shaman'.

You have not done much communing with living spirits, but in theory there is no reason you cannot do it.

You put your hand on the forehead of the great eagle and reach out for its spirit.

'I am Vlad Tepish. Greetings.'
'Greetings, black shaman.'

'Black shaman?'
'You are surrounded by living dead, yet the spirits know you. It is simple enough.'
'You disapprove?'
'Yes. Not enough to make hasty decisions.'
'I see. Might I ask about the path ahead? We are going towards that mountain.'
'What is your purpose with the drow?'
'I am going to kill them.'
'I see. Fair enough, there are these three passes, each are as good as the other.' the roc sends you an image of the paths.

'If I might ask, what do you think of the drow?'
'They are a people. A mostly evil people, but they cannot reach me, nor our nests. I have no love nor quarrel with them.'
'So you would not help me fight them?'
'They are a danger to the world, but not one that is immediate. They have a chance for redemption. Or will have had a chance, if you succeed, I suppose.'
'I am afraid I cannot back down. They killed my friend.'
'The ones in the mountain did? It matters not. What people do on the land only affects us in the rarest of times. I shall certainly lose no sleep over dead drow.'

'I am curious. How do your people live? How many of you are there?'
'We keep no count. We come and go, for we can. There are enough for each to find a breeding partner without much trouble. As for who we are, well, that is a hard question indeed.'
'I apologize.'
'No need. It is simply that we are individuals. More so than the land races. We need not co-operate to survive, so each of us is somewhat more independent. So it is hard to tell you much about my people. Aside, of course, from the fact that we are giant eagles.'

'I will wait for you to get back there. Humans are often eager to attack large predators on sight.'
'I suppose I would know all about that.'
'Good-bye, black shaman.'
'Fare-well.'

You let go of the roc. The flapping of its wings as it lifts off nearly knocks you off your feet.

'Huh. What'd it say?' Melandie says.
'Not much. Some directions.' you say.
'Cool. So let's go kill some drow.'

You reach the drow mountain by nightfall. It is large, of course, and not entirely filled with drow, but you could start your assault now from without.

Inflict Disease: Much like beasts and men you have learned that diseases are alive and that they die. And what is dead you can raise. A much more subtle evocation than Drain Life, you can cast it on someone and they would not know it until they fell over dead. It inflicts a dire illness that few can survive in the long term. A skilled mage or healer might figure out the magical nature of the affliction, but by then it would likely be too late.

Plague: Your inflict disease spell can now become virulent, likely decimating whole tribes without clue of your intervention. The spell can be detected by skilled healers and spellcasters. People with very high stamina might survive, but not unscathed.

The plague is virulent and fast-acting, however you need to cast it at a target.

You take off your upper garments and sit down on the ground. You reach out to the spirit of the mountain. You want to tear it asunder. It is unlikely do do so on its own free will.

And yes, they do, I'm aware of this, hence why I said -mostly-.

Mainly I'm concerned because I don't know how liches work in his setting.

Some settings liches eventually decay magically and fade into non-existence, though it takes several thousand years.

Personally, just because people picked the name "Vlad" I'd feel a bit cheated if we weren't a vampire, and being the first "real" vampire in setting would be epic.

17! Above Average!

For a very long time nothing happens. Then you feel an overwhelming presence. The spirit is as great as the mountain itself. You try to move it and it is implacable.

You redouble your efforts. It grumbles.

You throw your entire spirit, blood and bone against the will of the mountain and finally it rages. Ground shakes. The rock breaks and creaks. The sound is incredible.

The mountain spirit strikes back and your head splits open. No, wait, it only feels like it. The spirit had to open itself up in order to do it though, and in a final push you overwhelm it and a fault line, a cavern opens up in the middle of the mountain.

You have taken one wound. Your mind is so shaken that it takes a little more to focus your magic.

You start hearing the screams through the dust. Then shouts. There is much dying, you feel it. But there is a defence being organized.

As soon as you see a face among the dust you push your magic to cast a plague upon the drow.

Choosing form based on highest rolls.

Post-modifiers You- 19; Bathory 17; Melandie 15, 1; Lathrien 12

Your random castings of reanimate dead wreaks havoc in their already barely-existent ranks. You transform into a bear and you charge forwards, way ahead of your team. The terrain is so broken up that only Melandie can keep up with you. Bathory follows at a safe distance, flanked by her demonologist-bound guard dog. Lathrien seems to freeze up for a bit too long to cause any damage.

As you are leading the van, you hear a wretched howl you have learned to associate with Melandie in a rage. She passes you by and starts hacking into trapped, downed and dying drow. She strikes down apparent civilians and the wounded just as she attacks warriors. She keeps taking scratches and ignoring them, but at one point, a bolt of dark energy strikes her. She howls in a rage and starts charging towards the source of magic, right into where the drow are thickest.

You have been dispatching drow with ease, their surprised fighters not even piercing your thick hide. You destroy your foes until you notice Melandie on her suicide-charge.

Bathory makes sure to be cautious. She only sends out the dog on the shortest sorties and only resorts to using her sword to attack when she must. She manages to rack up a few kills, however.

The remaining drow are circling the wagons and even more are moving towards the caster that Melandie is charging towards. You see the Necromantrix. She is nearly nude, though terribly scarred and burned. All of her hair have been burned off her head. The scar tissue makes her skin look much lighter than her brethren. And there is black fire in her eyes, you see even from the distance.

>Charge with Melandie. Not much else you can do.
>Try to calm her down and be reasonable.
>Turn back to caster and use magic.
>Have Lathrien help Melandie, attack from a flank.
>Kill the Necromancer before Melandie gets there.

She got struck by a bolt and basically is swamped by drow.
The real problem to her was the high level necromancer we paralyzed.
>>
11! Above average.

You wait. Seconds drag. She gets more and more sluggish. The body has its limits, and they do not want to be reached. She keeps on with the slaughter for a few more minutes, but eventually her arms drop to her sides, she drops down to her knees and collapses.

Lathrien rushes towards her. He holds her in a panic.

'S-she's fine,' he says.

You look around at what you have wrought. The scale of slaughter here makes it difficult to discern specific bodies. Melandie decapitated the necromancer as soon as you broke eye-contact. The stench of meat, smoke, dust and disease makes you nauseated. And you've lived in a cramped cave in the middle of the summer with only rotting corpses to keep you company. The very mountain is dead, killed by you.

Nothing grows here. Nothing will.

Your vengeance is complete.

Somehow, it doesn't feel as good as you thought it would.

You have a few strong words to Melandie about control, but as you approach her you see she is unconscious, or asleep. You walk off.

'Vlad, where are you going?' Bathory says
'There are still some answers I need.' you say.
'I... I do not think I should go with you. I need to take the elves away from here.'
'Fine. I shall not be long.'

As you pass by the necromantrix, you bind her soul almost off-offhandedly. You will come back for whatever bit of bone you bound her to later. You enter the caverns under the mountain.

Immediately you feel a dark presence calling out for you.

You came here for answers and you are not going to get them by being timid. You walk through the tunnels, over rubble and over cave-ins. There are more bodies in here, of course.

As you thought, eventually you reach a larger cavern, almost entirely unharmed by the earthquake. In its center rests a statue, it reaches to the ceiling, a good twenty feet above.

It is a figure in a robe, with a skeletal face, all carved of black stone. The lower front of the robe is slightly deformed and oily from being touched thousands of times over the centuries.

Just in case, Immortality Option:

Pros: True immortality so long as you do as commanded.

If you serve the god of undeath, you do not die unless it wishes so

Cons: Well, I mean, duh

The pain is such that it ceases to be a sensation and becomes a state of being. Time ceases to be relevant as there is no beginning, middle or end to it.

And then all at once it breaks. You are sprawled on the floor. Tears, saliva, piss, mixed in a puddle underneath you.

'Can we please at least pretend to be civil?'

You manage to regain your composure. You cannot stand, but you can maintain your will. For now.

'What's the matter?' you pause, as you try to remember how the tongue and throat make words, 'afraid... the others... are gaining on you?'

'What?'

'Other gods have tribes, worshipers, priests. You are left with a bunch of corpses.'

'And how do you believe that changes your situation?'

'You cannot kill me. I am the greatest living necromancer in this land. If there is any chance to bring me to your side, ever, you have to take it. I serve no man, no king, no god. Kill me or let. me. go.'

wait for it

The presence dissipates. You can do nothing but laugh. You certainly cannot move.

You fall into darkness for a long time. When you awake, all of the pain and the dark presence are gone.

And with that concludes the nineteenth installment of Feral Necromancer Quest.

Now, I know that normally the exp cap per session is 3, but you resolved two major plot elements this session. You gain 4 exp, as well as some perk that I will think of between sessions.

You have gained Necromancy VII

You can now control 70 units of undead minions.

You have gained False Life: You can give your undead the appearance of a normal, living person of their race. This is no mere illusion, as it restores their flesh and blood.

Most importantly, however

You have unlocked a new undead type: Blackguard.

A Blackguard is an undead minion with all of their senses, mind and capabilities, in addition to a curious ability to manipulate necromantic energy. Furthermore, their physical attributes are increased to the very limit of their race. You can raise any dead body in this way, binding their mind under your control by expending five points of units. However, you can also choose to let them keep their free will, for as long as they remain absolutely loyal to you, without expending any undead slots.

>You have gained False Life: You can give your undead the appearance of a normal, living person of their race. This is no mere illusion, as it restores their flesh and blood.

Does it make them more "natural" as in people will have a harder time sense dark energies from em?
And they can just be cast, on all of them or from now on anything we raise will have false life?
>>
>>41270974
So...can we false life a blackguard, give them free will and then have them do all the scouting with a small force of undead?
I kinda like that idea
>>
>>41271025
I think "Restore their flesh and blood" means they smell bad as an average person would
>>
>>41271072
>>41271046
>>41271025
Spiritually and magically they would be obviously undead, also if someone kept chopping them and it wouldn't work that'd give a hint, but largely you restore them to look physically alive. On close inspection they would have no pulse and you would have to consciously command them to breathe.

>>41271041
You can either choose to bind them for the usual 5 point cost, or let them come at you, bro.

>>41271049
Pretty much what they're made for. I mean I'm sure /tg/ can come up with more broken uses for it somehow, but that's roughly what I had in mind.

Can we Blackguard the Necromantix?
Also could a high-level Achemichal Chemoterapy give us immortality? or lengthen our lives?
>>
>>41271185
true her current form is probably a bit stronger than a black guard, but it sounds like black guards know some level of necromancy.
also wondering if we can have a child with this new body
>>41271217
can this body conceive a child?
>>
>>41271049
think of it like this, We can revive the Necromantix drow, and have her raise a few undead with her magic under her. While having her under our control.
And we could do the same for a few more necromancers bodies we have laying around. even if they can only cover 5 bodies a piece. they will have covered their own cost. And become a nice vanguard or shock troops, that can adapt to the battle.

>>41271217

>forgetting that she is a humocolus
kek anon she isn't human anymore hell she and vlad were wondering if she can even have a child.
>>
>>41271304
We need to get immortality at least at some time soon.

Don't want to get Bathory stuck with an old wrinkly ass man.

Also, Liches do not have dicks.

And using a bone(r) just doesn't feel good for either party.
>>
>>41271337
If she can't have a child, we will increase our alchemy and understanding of bodies better. and make her a newer replica. More advanced enchantments than she she now, with the ability to have a child.

We could also throw in the dragon into a body under our control, and the orc fire mage. Make them a lot more useful.
>>
>>41271400
>dragon into a body under our control

Waitwait.

Holy shit.

level up Dragon magic, can we make a blackguard Dragon?

OP NEED NERF NAO!
>>
>>41271468
no need to do that, it doesn't say there is a limit.
It sucks that we don't have that dragon anymore, since with this we could have a strong as shit dragon that knows a bit of necromancy.
>>
>>41271496
>it doesn't say there is a limit.

Most people don't need to tell others that jumping from the 8th story tends to kill people, either.

Most of the stuff involing dragons that we do absolutely requires dragon magic to synergise with our other sorceries.

So I don't think we could just blackguard a dragon at this current point.
>>
>>41271496
I do believe that we have the dragon bound.
acid sword I believe. I think we've been able to talk to him after being bound, don't see why we wouldn't be able to move him into an undead body.
Heck even just putting the orc back into a body would benefit us quite nicely have a fire mage among our ranks wrecking shit, leading assaults.
>>
>>41271538
Anon we could already turn a dragon into an unread with out dragon magic.
We learned dragon magic because we dove into a dead dragons soul/mind.
>>41271538
>Most of the stuff involing dragons that we do absolutely requires dragon magic to synergise with our other sorceries.
Like what?
We got this power without the help of dragon magic?
The qm usually says when magic combos happened.
>>
>>41271608
true, but i have a feeling the dragon will cost us more than just 5 undead slots to have under our will.
>>
>>41271609
>Like what?
>We got this power without the help of dragon magic?
>The qm usually says when magic combos happened.

I'd have to archive dive, but generally speaking, if it relates to a dragon, to do anything fancy it needs dragon magic.

Binding a dragon's soul is easily necromancy, but rebuilding a dragon's body to peak is more than just that because dragons are by their nature magical creatures, not natural ones like men, elves, dwarves and animals and the like.

And actually, we don't have any undead dragons, just a bound one.

I don't claim to know how this works, I just surmise it would likely take dragon magic to do all the best stuff to and relating to dragons.

A skeleton is a skeleton, even if made from dragon bits, very different from something only a breathe away from being truly alive.
>>
>>41271734
I actually asked a few threads back about whether we could wildshape into dragons.

The answer implied that they are not of this world.
>>
>>41271848
Yes, he said we needed to get dragon magic up for it, though.

I was there.
>>
>>41271734
We could put in the dragon in the body of a magical being. like a mage we kill or some thing. To put the mage into something doesn't mean we have to make a dragon body for it. Shit we get an elf inside of a dog atm.
Also as for dragon magic, we have no need for it. But it has been stated to do a lot of the best in game magic, combos with dragon magic are top tier shit.
>>
>>41271932
>we have no need for it

>Not wanting to infuse himself with the essence of the dragon to become super ubermensch style immortal in tandem with other immortality methods

B-But why!?
>>
>>41271496
We still have the Bones of the Dragon
