When planet Coral deteriorated beyond any hope of terraformation, the Pioneer project was put in place to evacuate the families of the wealthiest, most influential, and most intelligent in an attempt to find a new homeworld. Ragol, the most suitable system found, is a yellow star with an inner asteroid belt, a habitable planet (called Ragol), an ice planet, and a dark matter belt.

Pioneer I, the first ship of its kind, was sent to Ragol to begin colonizing.

Pioneer II arrived seven years later. Upon orbit above the Central Dome of the colony, Pioneer II opened up channels to receive, but was interrupted by an explosion from just outside the Central Dome. The explosion shook the entire planet. All communcation was cut off. Strangely enough, infrastructure damage seemed to be nonexistent.

You are Pheonixia, a female newman and a Hunter's Guild certified Force. You have gained clout with Principal Tyrell after a lucky acquisition of “Red Ring” Rico Tyrell's log. Tyrell, the autocratic leader of Pioneer 2 and Rico's father, has put you on an off-the-books search and rescue mission for Rico.

You have fought your way through the forests of Ragol, slayed a dragon, reclaimed Pioneer I's Central Dome, and discovered the long dead Palman civilization through an ancient artifact, the Elsydeon. With a shard of the once great sword, you are given visions of heroes of the past. The ghosts of Elsydeon warn of Mother Brain, a system of climate control AI responsible for turning the barren Motavia (Ragol) into a green planet filled with often hostile life.

Boarding an ancient satellite in orbit around Ragol revealed two functioning androids. They detail a threat to the Ragol system. “Profound Darkness” is due for another millenial disaster, and you have already discovered its "Dark Energy Wave" emitting from the Central Dome.
>>
Wren, the android accompanying you from the climate satellite Zelan to Pioneer II, presented his findings on the Pioneer I explosion. The images revealed a "Dark Force" at the epicenter of the mysterious explosion.

You were dismissed by Tyrell, and took the opportunity to explore and gather data from the ancient climate satellite, Kuran, in orbit around Ragol II (Dezolis in the ancient language.) You return to find the principal's office is not taking visitors, not even you. A visit to Zelan reveals that the military has taken over operations.

WORKS, the military organization who has taken over Zelan, captures and interrogates you. Left in a makeshift prison cell, you draw upon the wisdom of the Elsydeon. Newly inspired, you teach yourself the gizonde technique, using it to great effect against your captors. You discover the deactivated Wren and Demi. You manage to reactivate Demi before the station's automated defense system corners and shoots you.

After a brief disorienting vision, you are awakened by Demi. The two of you work together to reactivate Wren, who wipes out the rest of the soldiers. You reunite with your friends at the hospital on Pioneer II. Your next destination: Ragol II.

>Last Time

Your wounds close up overnight. All your friends stay in the room with you. You're not sure if it's to keep you company or keep you safe. You are now just realizing how much trouble you've gotten yourself into.

You don't get a lot of sleep, as Nela managed to keep everyone awake most of the night playing board games and telling stories. It seems that she hardly ever shuts up, but at least now you're used to it.

Demi informs you that, with a little bit of creating hacking, she made the transponder on the transport ship read as your property. As far as the port authority knows, you own the ship. You hope WORKS won't miss it enough to do something about it.

You decide to stock up on some supplies at the shops the next morning. You don't plan on being caught off guard a second time.

With your shopping complete, the six of you board your craft and set a course for Ragol II. Demi takes you aside for a moment.

“Pardon my intrusion, but Wren and I couldn't help but overhear you talking in your sleep on the way to Pioneer II. You mentioned the Elsydeon. We discussed it, and thought you should have this.” She hands you a shard of metal. “Wren had been keeping it next to his hyper jammer module as a keepsake of the battles we fought together. It may be important when we speak to Lutz.”

“Demi...”

You make a rather smooth landing on Ragol II thanks to Wren's skilled piloting. You, Ash, Nela, and Maiawynn exit and immediately start shivering from the cold. Wren and Demi stop at the door.

You turn to them. “W-wren. Aren't you c-coming?”

“I'm afraid not, Pheonixia. Demi and I must secure Kuran before WORKS attempts to take it. This is where we part ways. You four are more than capable of handling yourselves from here on out.”

“What? We have no idea where we're going!”

Wren points towards some nearby woods. “South of here is the town of Ryuon. West is Tyler. North is Zosa. All three are Palman settlements that can point you on your way, Ryuon being the closest. When you have concluded your business on this planet, there is a hidden spaceport in Tyler with a ship that can take you home. Use the communication array there to contact Kuran.”

“Th-thanks, Wren!”

Wren gives a thumbs up and the hatch closes. The transport ship takes off.

“Well...this is great.” Maiyawynn complains. “What now?”

“Let's head to Ryuon and get our bearings.

Entering the woods cuts down on wind chill, but you are still uncomfortably cold. A few minutes in, you notice a massive slug in the distance.

Ash points it out. “What the hell is that thing?”

“Something to avoid. Let's try to stay out of trouble before we get to Ryuon.”

The others nod and follow your lead. You walk quietly, giving the slug a wide berth.

“Uhm, Pheonie?” Nela taps your shoulder. “Our new friend is tagging along.”

“Damnit... just keep moving. It can't be that fast.”

You quicken your pace, the others follow suit. You notice the slug following but slowly falling behind over your shoulder. You turn to face ahead again, and nearly bump into a giant owl.

You hold your hand up and stay perfectly still. Everyone else takes the hint.

The owl looks at you carefully. You give it a hateful stare. It hops to your right, turning its head every which way to examine you. You feel somewhat violated getting eyed like this.

It rears its head back, a sign you remember from the Rappies on Ragol. This thing is about to peck you with it's massive beak. Better to preempt than retaliate. You swing your staff across it's face.

The owl crows in pain and raises it's wings. This thing is huge, and could probably take any one of you in the air if it wanted to. Best to keep your distance.

You hear Nela scream from the back. “Ew! Oh my God it touched me. EW!”

The slug seems to have caught up with her.

Fuck it.

“If they want a fight, then let's give them one!”

You shoot a fireball and the owl. The screech of pain is deafening. Maiawynn brings her sword down on the bird's neck, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

She jumps back to cover you. “The creatures here are much stronger than on Ragol. We're going to need an upgrade soon.”

You turn to see the slug trying to consume Nela. It seems that the creature is amorphous. Ash cuts away part of the slug and pulls Nela free. With her out of the way, you call down the lightning. The bolt splits the slug in two.

“Pheonixia!” Maiawynn screams from the talons of the owl. It's flying away with her.

You send a fireball flying toward the bird. It gains a fair bit of altitude before the fireball strikes, sending it off balance. Maiyawynn hangs from one of its talons.

“Ash!”

“On it!” A collapsible rifle jettisons from his frame. He lines up the shot, and is struck in the back by an electric shock.

You turn to find two smaller slugs approaching. Nela nurses Ash's wound but gives you a worried look.

“You guys go get Maiya. I'll take care of these two.”

Nela takes Ash's arm over her shoulders and picks him up. “This should patch you up for now. Giresta!”

There is an audible crack of bones, but Ash walks forward a few steps. He turns to you. “Ok. I'll try to stay within radio distance for MAGs. If we can't find each other, then I guess we'll just have to find our way to Ryuon and meet up there.”

“Agreed.” You raise your staff to the slugs. Ash and Nela run off to the west.

“Let's see just how much charge your slimy little bodies can hold. Gizonde!”

The slugs approach, but are stopped by a massive burst of electricity. Bits of slug go everywhere.

“Hm...alright, guess I should catch up with the others.”

You notice the bits of slug still moving. They crawl into piles and begin to reform. You are surrounded by four slugs now.

My interpretation is that these creatures act very similar to desert animals. They move slowly and conserve energy while absorbing it from the closest possible sources(sunlight, plants, prey). When that kind of thing can take a lightning bolt without overloading, putting them back to sleep and them smashing them physically sounds to me like a better idea than adding more energy(heat)

It seems that the electric attacks aren't helping anything. The slugs close in.

“I am done with you!”

You force fire out in every direction. The mental toll is exhausting, and the cold weather is wearing on you. Waves of fire circle around you and incinerate the slugs, along with a few trees.

The slugs melt away into a liquid that seeps into the snow and slush. Out of breath you collapse into the snow.

“Hey kid.”

“What now, Rudo?” You are back in orbit around Dezolis. Nice to know you have a safe space to retreat to whenever your body gives out.

“You know you're getting hypothermia, right?”

“...yeah...”

“And you're in the middle of the woods.”

“Yes Rudo. I fucking know my predicament, and I'm not exactly happy about it. DO you have anything helpful to say?”

“Yeah, the person picking you up right now. Don't freak out when you see him.”

It takes a second to register that you are being held in the arms of an alien. Once it clicks, you push him away and land unceremoniously on the ground, only to begin rolling downhill.

You come to a rest at the foot of the hill. Covered in snow and shivering violently. The man walks up to you, smiles, and puts up his hands. “I know I look as strange to you as you do to me, but you really should get out of this cold.”

He inches slowly and extends his hand. “Cold, bad. Warm, good. Yes? Let's go.” He mimes walking. “Go, Meese. People, food, good.”

You stand there and nod silently. He walks east, and you follow a little outside arms length.

The town of Meese is a one hour walk around a small mountain. There are many green men walking in the streets. More notably, you see a couple Palmans in elaborate robes.

Relph leads you into a nearby tavern. Here, Palmans and Dezolians drink and talk as musical instruments are played in a corner.

“Food, eat?” Relph points to the bar.

You've gotten used to the idea of green men by now, but you still want to play dumb for a little while longer as an excuse to acclimate to the area.

“Food.” You nod in the affirmative and take a seat. You take a glance at the menu. You're not sure what penguin casserole is, but you're curious.

You grab a menu wave down the bartender. “So, this penguin casserole. Is it what is sounds like?”

“Yup. Straight from Zosa!” He smiles as he cleans a mug with a rag.

“I need something hot to eat and a lot of alcohol. What can you do for me?”

He puts a finger down on the menu. “We have hot Laerma Cyder. That stuff will give you wings or knock you on your ass, depending on how well you take to it. We also have a nice rappy chowder.”

“Good, I'll take both.”

“Wait wait wait!” Relph interrupts. “You can speak!?”

“Yeah?”

“Why didn't you say anything earlier?”

“I was freezing my ass off and literally got picked up by a green alien. You didn't even ask my name. The least you could do is buy me a drink first.” You realize you sound a bit ungrateful. But, to be honest, this is just your way of coping with green men.

You can't tell if he's shocked or angry, but he's probably a little bit of both.

“I don't know what you've heard, miss, but this is Dezolis. Palmans are the aliens around here!”

You get a few odd looks.

You fiddle with your ears and show one of your claws. “Newman, not a Palman.”

The bartender brings your food. “Well then, Palman or not, your money is good here. That'll be 500 Meseta.”

At first you are surprised that the name of the currency translates so well, then you realize tyhere's no way they'd accept Coralian money.

“Uhm...” You look to Relph, you just glares back at you.

“Well, I wouldn't want to presume anything, miss Newman. I will let you pay for your own food to avoid any implications.” Relph picked a hell of a time to hold a grudge.

“I will cover this poor girl's meal, sir. Please add it to our tab.” A woman in a white robe walks up behind you. She feels familiar, but you don't know how.

“Thank you so much!”

“Think nothing of it. You are clearly not from around here. Espers are always here to help! You really should get more suitable clothing for the weather.”
