The sky is tinged orange by the rising sun. The endless cloudscape below is tinged a warm gold by the morning sun's rays. High above, an armored figure soars through the air on it's six magnificent wings, moving so fast the clouds appear blurred to her. A small river can be seen up ahead, floating above the clouds in a seemingly endless stream. She dips to the side and lets one of her wings skim the water's surface, making it spray into the air behind her.

Galadriel enjoyed flying, she always had. She prided herself on her speed, which was above average even by her fellow seraph's standards. Before she sealed herself within her own sword, she would spend most of her free time on Earth, where she would fly above the clouds and enjoy the beautiful sights earth had to offer. Even after the Great Crusade began, she would return to the skies when she needed to relieve stress. Truly, father Aureus had created a wonderful world, filled with vibrant colors and magnificent sights.

Here, within the mental plane she'd built upon sealing herself inside her sword, she could easily change the landscape to suit her. This endless cloudscape was one of her favorites, however, as it allowed her to fly freely despite her internment within the sword. Indeed, her flights were one of the few forms of entertainment she had here, the only other source being the occasional visits from her Champion, Siegfried.

Speaking of Siegfried, he should be waking up shortly. The mental eyes which passively watch over him while she occupies her time confirm this, as she sees her Champion begin to stir from bed in the back of her mind. She hears someone knocking at his door, most likely Erika coming to wake him for breakfast, as she usually does.

In the distance, Galadriel can see the mountain peak which rises above this plane's cloudscape. Deciding to stop and rest for a bit, she lands softly on the mountain and takes a seat. Closing her eyes, she focuses her mind's eyes on the world outside.

-------
The White Watchtower comes into focus. She sees Siegfried, now out of bed and walking down the stairs towards the dining hall with Erika. She can hear their conversation, as though she were standing right there.

"I heard Leonard's bringing in even more people this time." Her Champion complains. "Might be 25 or more on his team this time."

"Ugh, are you serious? I'm starting to think he's just gonna start calling in more helpers until it's impossible to win."

"I think that's actually the point. We should just focus on rushing him this time, I don't think we'll do too well if we try to beat them one at a time."

Seems they're discussing combat training with Leonard. Since their first victory a few days ago, Leonard has been adding more and more people to his team. Siegfried and his honor guard have been doing a good job so far, but one can only do so much when they're outnumbered.

"Oh yeah, and how have the remedial lessons with Daniel been going?" Siegfried asks.

"Terrible. I'm thinking I might start skipping them."

"Erika, we've been over this. You can't just skip training."

"Well what's the point? Every time I try to cast a spell it comes out wrong, so why even bother?"

"Because spells are actually really helpful. Just give the lessons a chance, you'll get better eventually." As he says this, Galadriel can feel a hint of doubt coming from Siegfried.
>>
>>41378148
'...She will actually improve if she practices, right?' Siegfried asks her through their mental link.

Galadriel pondered Erika's situation with magic. She remembered one occasion during their training with Daniel when Erika accidentally caused a small explosion when trying to cast Illuminate. There was also the time when she made a mistake in the incantation for Flash and managed to snuff out all the lights in the training room, making it impossible to see. On the bright side, it seemed Erika could actually cast illuminate without mishap now, though the result is always a dim bulb of light which seems almost shriveled. Given time and practice, Erika could certainly improve, but at the rate she's progressing, it may be better to have her train in something else.

>'Given time and effort, yes.'
>'Maybe. Although I doubt she will ever catch up to the rest of the group.'
>'...Perhaps it would be better for her to focus where her strengths lie instead.'
>'In time, yes. I would advise against teaching her more advanced spells though. The consequences of accident when casting them will be more severe, so it may be best to simply teach her the basics and end there.'

'While I believe her current level is sufficient, there is still merit in her studying. Particularly, the effects of various spells and how to deal with them in combat, both aiding and harming her.'

'So just teach her how to deal with spells in a fight? Alright, that makes sense I guess. Wait...sufficient? Nearly blowing everyone is is sufficient?'

'Not how I would phrase it, but in a way yes. While her spellcraft is risky, I could see situations where some of the mistakes she's made could actually be useful. The explosions caused by her Illumination spell could be used offensively, for example.'

'...I guess that is true, providing she doesn't catch us in the blast.'

'Indeed. I would advise caution though, she seems to be expending more energy than necessary when she makes such mistakes, so just make sure she knows to stop if she feels exhausted.'

'I'll keep that in mind.'

Siegfried and Erika continue to discuss training until they reach the dining hall, where the rest of the honor guard (and Daniel) are waiting. Galadriel found it curious when Siegfried chose not to bring Daniel into his honor guard, but she supposed it did make sense. She sometimes forgot that mortals actually become weaker when they age, perhaps his decision was for the best.
>>
>>41379404
Siegfried and Erika take their seats next to the others and start eating breakfast. As they do, Galadriel glances over the table's contents curiously. Immortals like angels do not need to eat, they "feed" on the emotions of mortals. However, they are capable of eating mortal food, and indeed many actually enjoy doing so. She had never tried mortal food before, but she'd heard many amongst her kind praise it. Perhaps when all was said and done and she could finally unseal herself, she would try some herself.

'Something wrong?' Siegfried asks curiously.

'Hm? No, nothing is wrong.' Galadriel responds. Had her curiosity bled through their mental link without her noticing?

>>
>>41379574
'You sure everything's alright? For a second I thought I felt something there. Is something on your mind?'

'Just simple curiosity is all.'

'About what?'

'Mortal food. I've heard stories of it from others of my kind, but I've never actually tried it myself. It was just a passing curiosity, nothing more.'

'Wait, you've never had food before?'

'My kind does not need to eat, we survive off the emotions of mortals. However, many of my kind do enjoy eating mortal food. I simply never had the chance to try it for myself before I had to seal myself in here.'

'You're telling me you've gone 2000 years without ever eating human food before? That's crazy.'

'I simply never thought to do so in that time.'

There's a pause while Siegfried thinks. 'Well, no better time to try it than today.'

'Pardon?'

'We've already established that I can bring stuff over when I meditate. I'll just bring a plate with me after dinner tonight when I have time to meditate.'

'There is no need, I was simply curious is all. You need not bother.'

'It's not a bother, don't worry about it. I'll see what I can bring with me after dinner tonight.'

Galadriel starts to say something else, but gives up. If Siegfried doesn't consider it a bother, then she should just accept it. She felt somewhat sheepish for bothering her champion with something so trivial when he should be training, but she had to admit she was looking forward to it.

'Very well then. Thank you, Siegfried.'

'Don't mention it.'

Breakfast continues as usual after that, until it's time for everyone to head to the field for combat training with Leonard. As Siegfried predicted, there are more people on Leonard's side than before. Siegfried might not recognize most of them, but Galadriel had a passing familiarity with most of them. She spent a lot of time sitting in the three towers before Siegfried came along, during which almost all of the towers' residents had tried to lift her blade at some point in time. Two of them must have been recent recruits, as she didn't recognize them, but the rest she vaguely remembered.

The battle begins, and Leonard's force charges towards Siegfried and his honor guard. Five stay behind to guard Leonard, including Galmar, Logain, and Daniel. Logain begins to strum his lute, while Daniel starts reciting incantations. Galadriel can feel Siegfried racking his brain, trying to think of a way to deal with the numerical disadvantage.

'You need to focus on Daniel and Logain. They'll be casting spells from afar until you deal with them.' You advise.

'How? We have to get past the guys in front first.'

'Look closely. There may be a lot of them, but most of them are young and fairly inexperienced. Leave them to your allies, they can deal with them. The real threat is in the back, use my wings to fly up and keep their spellcasters distracted. Have Joan stay back and cast spells in the mean time.'

He does as she says, activating both Righteous Strength and Angel Wings immediately. Shifting her sword into a bow, he flies overhead and begins raining arrows on Logain and Daniel. Galmar does his best to stand in the way and block with his shield, but Siegfried's ability to fly makes it difficult. Meanwhile Joan begins muttering an incantation of her own, while everyone else does their best to form a line and hold back the advance.
>>
>>41381799
'Harass them from the air. Remember how difficult it was to fight the Warden in my memories while he was in flight? You have that advantage now, press it.'

Siegfried nods, and shifts his bow into a lance. He divebombs out of the air, and hits Galmar's shield with enough force to knock the giant back, right into Logain. The dwarf, pinned under his large friend, is unable to continue his spellsong.

Meanwhile, Joan finishes her incantation and throws a lightning bolt into the advancing crowd of enemies. The bolt strikes one, then jumps to another, continuing down the row. The others continue to do their best to hold them back while she starts begins casting another spell.

Daniel also finishes his spell, creating a force bubble around himself and the others in the back.

'Rain more arrows on them. Break the shield down before they can start casting again.'

--------
The practice battle finally begins to wind down, with Siegfried and his honor guard managing to barely meek out victory after defeating Leonard. Had there been more experienced fighters on Leonard's side, it my have tipped the balance, but this time the honor guard manages to succeed once more. Whether or not their luck will persist when even more are brought in is yet to be seen.

Daniel and Ganelon go from person to person, checking on them and healing them when necessary. Meanwhile, Leonard gathers up the rest of the honor guard to discuss their performance.

"Another fine job today. Erika, you still need to work on your footwork, and Reinhardt you need to pay closer attention to your opponents. Besides that, you've all done alright. Get some rest and head to your next training session once you've caught your breath."

The honor guard takes a moment to catch their breath before heading back to the tower for the next training session, arcane lessons with Daniel.

Thinking Siegfried should be fine on his own for now, Galadriel refocuses on her presence in the cloudscape, and the outside world begins to grow foggy.

------
Back in her mental plane, Galadriel's eyes open once more. She is still sitting on top of the mountain peak, overlooking the cloudscape. Her mind's eyes continue to watch over Siegfried passively, allowing her to focus on other things while still watching over him. If someone were to try and sneak up on him she would know, though she doubted that would happen right now.

Galadriel stretches, extending her arms and wings out and stands up. The sun is approaching it's zenith, and the cloudscape is very well lit. The area below should be as well.

With a flap of her wings, Galadriel rises high into the air, then dives down towards the clouds. She passes through them to the world below. The land is a haphazard patchwork of memories, stitched together by her mind. To the north lie dark swamps and tall mountains, and to the south lies a forest, circled around a massive volcano. To the west lies a vast ocean, and to the east there is a massive crater, and a massive black fortress. At the center of it all lies the mountain on which Galadriel was perched. At the base of the mountain, countless villages and cities can be found, along with a large black hole which seems to have no bottom.

Though Galadriel spends most of her time above the clouds, she would sometimes come below to reflect on her memories of the past. All her memories can be found here, good and bad. Many times she'd come here to revisit fond memories, or to reflect on past mistakes.

Galadriel steers towards the south and descends into the forest canopy. The light here is dimmer, but still bright enough to see. There is a path through the woods heading further south, which Galadriel proceeds down on foot.

The path leads to a large clearing, where a village can be seen. Shadows of people can be seen milling about. There's a rustle in the bushes, and a new figure steps out, carrying the dead body of some large beast. The beast appears to be a strange amalgam of a lion and a snake, with sharp spines jutting out of it's back. The one carrying it is an armored woman with six gold wings, Galadriel in her younger days. The villagers begin to gather at the outskirts, as the phantom Galadriel strides forward and displays the slain beast.

"I've slain the Chimera, you need not worry anymore."

There's cheering from the villagers. A group of men wearing animal skins and carrying knives step forward and immediately get to work skinning the chimera. An elderly elf steps forward from the crowd, leaning on a knobby wooden can for support.

"Thank you angel, our village is indebted to you. We don't have much, but if there is anything you want as repayment, we'll do what we can."

The young Galadriel shakes her head. "Think nothing of it, I am just fulfilling my duties. If you wish to thank me, then build a shrine to the Old Father and pray for his rebirth. Before that, I suggest building a palisade around your village. It will help keep beasts like this from attacking again."

The elder bows his head reverently. "We will do as you say, angel. Give our thanks to Lord Aurelius."
>>
>>41383669
The phantom Galadriel nods, spreads her wings, and flies away. As she does, the villagers begin to fade away until only an empty village is left. Galadriel remembered this, back before the Great Crusade, when she and her kin would regularly come to earth and aid mortals. She remembered those days, back when everyone still referred to Aureus as the Old Father, when everyone still thought Aureus would be reborn one day, and mortals still lived in small villages miles away from each other. She remembered how everyone's biggest concern back then was keeping the monster population in control, when demons were still fighting amongst themselves in the depths of the Void. That was a very long time ago, she'd probably been hardly 80 years old back when this happened. So much has changed since then.

Beyond the village, two more paths continue into the forest. The left path is paved in dirt, while the second is paved in scorched stone.

Following the road paved by scorched stone, Galadriel eventually comes to the edge of the forest. The road leads to a large town, currently aflame and being attacked by demons. Mortals flee the city, trying their best to stay together with their loved ones. A familiar figure can be seen standing in the center of the city, a flaming demon nearly the size of a castle with six arms, three eyes, and two horns. Alastor, back in his prime, before Asher took one of his eyes.

Several winged figures can be seen attacking the lord of wrath, many of whom are cleaved in half by Alastor's gigantic axes. Eventually, Galadriel finds a shade that looks like her, flying around his head and slashing at him with her sword. Alastor turns his head and opens his maw, releasing a torrent of fire at the phantom Galadriel.

She blocks as best she can with her shield, but the attack knocks her out of the sky, crashing through a stone statue in the town plaza and making a crater in the ground through force of impact. Blood can be seen leaking out of her armor. She's alive, but too injured to move. The lord of wrath laughs, lifting one of his flaming axes over his head for the killing blow, when a bright light flashes and a new figure appears. Another seraph, this one much taller than Galadriel, suddenly appears seemingly from nowhere and attacks Alastor, stabbing his sword into the demon lord's stomach and flying up, ripping a large gash from his stomach straight up to his chest. Alastor lets out a mighty roar and stumbles back, large globs of blood oozing from his wound and landing on the wooden buildings below, setting them on fire.

"That actually hurt." Alastor says, curling his fanged maw into a grin. "But I think my job here is done. With luck, we'll meet again, angel."

The new seraph dashes forward, trying to prevent Alastor's escape, but before he can reach him the lord of wrath melts into the ground, leaving nothing but a scorched crater and a burning town behind.

"I am fine, Zaphiel." Galadriel says, forcing herself to slowly get up.

"Do not lie, you can barely stand. Hold still, I will heal you."

Zaphiel extends one hand and a warm light begins to radiate from old Galadriel. The magic does what it can, but her wounds are too extensive to be healed so easily.

"Who was that? Why are demons attacking human settlements?" She asks, wasting no time.

"That was Alastor, the Demon Lord of Wrath." Zaphiel answers. "And I know not why demons are attacking, but this is not the only place. Reports say that other villages are being attacked as well."

"We must go then, they will need our help."

"They need help, yes, but a wounded warrior helps no one but the enemy. You are return to the Void and rest for now."

"But sir-!"

"That is an order, Galadriel. I know you wish to help, but you help no one if you are dead."

"...As you command, sir."

The old Galadriel disappears in a flash of light, while Zaphiel starts flying northeast. A moment later, the fires all die down, and all the shades disappear once more, leaving only an empty town devoid of life.

The first day of the Great Crusade. Galadriel remembers it like it were just yesterday. They came from the Void without warning, driving out mortals and slaying those who weren't fast enough to escape. This was not only the first day of war, but it was her first encounter with Alastor as well. She remembered how much weaker she had been at the start of the war, and how much stronger she became over the course of the war, until she could battle demon lords on roughly equal terms. Had she known then what she knows now, she would have sought him out and killed him while she could.

The forest lies behind Galadriel now. All that's left is the volcano up ahead.

Hey, I just had a thought.

Does Galadriel have an area in her mindscape devoted to more recent memories? It'd be interesting to see what her perspective was when she was getting to know Siegfried.

Galadriel's last destination is the volcano up ahead, a memory she's revisited many times before. Spreading her wings, she soars over to the volcano, where she can see a great battle taking place.

The mortal army combats the demonic army of Alastor at the base of his volcanic fortress. Leading the mortals is Asher, wielding Galadriel's sword. Leading Alastor's forces is Belphegor, Alastor's then-lieutenant. For immortals, age typically brings power, which is why the demon lords are universally dangerous. However, it is possible for a younger immortal to reach equal or even greater strength than those older than it. Galadriel was an example of this, as was Belphegor, a demon said to be near-equal to Alastor himself.

Asher and Belphegor clash blades with each other in the midst of battle. The area around them is clear, as both demon and mortal avoid interrupting their duel, for the mortals know they stand no chance against him, and the demons know they'll be killed for daring to interfere.

Asher is wounded, as is Belphegor. The battle seems as though it will never end, until Asher finally pierces Belphegor's heart and pulls up, slicing the demon's leathery head in two.

Seeing their lieutenant dead, the demon begin to fall back. The mortal army's cheers are near deafening as Asher returns to them, covered in both his and Belphegor's blood.

"We've slain their second in command, but we are not yet ready for a final assault. Fall back to the camps, we'll treat our wounded and attack again in-"

The earth begins to rumble beneath their feet. Smoke begins to rise from the volcano, and Asher loudly orders everyone to fall back. Lava shoots into the air over the volcano and roaring laughter can be heard over the earth's shaking. From the stream of magma comes Alastor, in his gigantic form, flying straight towards the mortal armies.
>>
>>41385513
"Retreat! Fall back!" Asher commands. "I will hold his advance, everyone get to safety!"

The soldiers hesitate, but do as he says. Alastor ignores them all, his eyes focused solely on Asher. The lord of wrath lands in front of Asher, glaring down at him and baring his fangs.

"So we finally meet, Champion." He growls. "You've been a thorn in my side for far too long now."

"I'll be more than just a thorn in your side soon." Asher says, a warm light beginning to flow from Galadriel to him. Six wings of light form on his back, each bearing sharp feathers which suddenly fly out in a volley towards Alastor.

Alastor simple extends one of his six hands and blocks the feathers, which leave several sear marks on his hand. "Already eager to fight. Good, I think I'll enjoy this battle."

"You sound awful happy to see me considering I've driven back your hordes and cut down your lieutenant."

Alastor chuckles, a sound more threatening than any uttered threat. "Happy? No, I can barely stand the sight of you. You've slain my best warrior, taken my lands, emptied my farms, and now you have the gall to attack me. I hate you so much that I doubt I'd be satisfied if I tore your limbs off one by one and picked my teeth with your bones. I've never hated one man this much before in my entire life, nor have I ever before been this eager for a fight, and for that you have my eternal thanks. Now die, and be lost in the Void!"

With a roar that can be heard for miles, Alastor brings all six of his axes down on Asher with the vicious strength of a man possessed by rage. Asher manage to fly out of the way, just barely, and charges the demon lord.
>>
>>41385525
The battle is long and brutal. Asher stalls for time as best he can, hoping to give the others enough time to escape, but the wounds from his battle with Belphegor slow him down. He knows he can't win, so he does the best he can, hoping to delay Alastor and then escape himself.

Alastor's axes miss their mark once more, and Asher see an opportunity. With a shout he soars forward, and plunges his sword into Alastor's left eye. The lord of wrath roars in pain, dropping one of his axes and reaching up towards Asher. Asher begins to pull Galadriel out of the demon's eye, but the hand slaps him away from her, then pushes the sword further into his eye, up to the hilt. Alastor grits his teeth at the pain, then smiles.

"Now what will you do, Champion, when you have no sword to help you?"

Galadriel tries to pull herself out, but Alastor closes his left eye, blocking her escape. Meanwhile Asher, now disarmed, tries to dodge past Alastor's attacks to find an opening to retrieve her. He finally finds that opening, and rushes to his closed left eye. Grabbing the lid, he uses his boosted strength to pry the eye open. Just as he begins to pull her out though, Alastor snatches him out of the air. Galadriel's hilt escapes his grip, and plummets towards the ground.
>>
>>41385525
Huh, looks like Alastor has really mellowed out with age.
>>
>>41385532
'Asher!'

Alastor holds Asher in his hand, his head the only thing free of Alastor's grasp. He tightens his grip, causing Asher's ribs to break.

'No!'

The sword stops in the air and begins to glow white. Galadriel remembers this moment clearly, the moment when she nearly unsealed herself to save him. She remembers everything that happens next, word for word, before it even happens.

'Don't!' Asher shouts through their mental link, as another loud crunch can be heard.

'If I don't, then you'll be killed!' She shouted back at him.

'And if you do then Rathanael will take you away, and we'll have no hope of ever defeating Malaphas.'

'But-!'

'Just go, now! Get back to the others and find a new Champion. You have to continue the fight, with or without me.'

Galadriel remembers how torn she'd felt back then. If she broke the seal and slew Alastor then she could save Asher's life, at the cost of no longer being able to help the mortals. But if she left, then Asher would die here at Alastor's hands. She hesitated, just a few more moments and the seal would be broken...

'Go!'

The sword stops glowing white and begins speeding off in the opposite direction. Moments later, a bloody crunch can be heard as Alastor crushes Asher to death. She doesn't look back, flying as fast as she can back to the camps. The others would know what her arrival meant. For the Champion's sword to return without the Champion could only mean one thing.

'I'm sorry Asher. Your death will not be in vain, I swear it.'
>>
>>41385571
The scene begins to disappear, until all Galadriel sees is the volcano below her. It's been well over a thousand years since then, and even today the guilt of Asher's death weighs heavily on her. His was the first death, but not the last. Any time her conviction started to waver she would revisit this memory. She'd made a promise that day, and she intended to keep it.

A tingling in the back of her mind signals that Siegfried has entered her mental plane again. She hadn't even noticed how much time had passed since she came here. Siegfried is probably above the clouds right now, wondering why she's not at the mountain peak like usual.

The memory is painful, but she has to bear it. She has been for almost 1800 years now. She takes a deep breath, then turns back towards the mountain.

--------
Galadriel breaks through the cloud barrier and lands on top of the mountain peak. Her sudden entrance causes Siegfried to jump in surprise, but he calms down once he realizes it's her.

"There you are, where were you?"

"I apologize, I was preoccupied when you arrived. Is there something you need?"

Siegfried shakes his head and points to a plate in his hands. "No, just thought I'd bring you some human food like I said. I was starting to think it'd get cold before you got here."

Food? Right, Galadriel had almost forgotten. He did say he would bring food for her when he had time to meditate.

"I see. Sorry to make you wait then."

He shrugs. "It's fine, just come down here and try it."

Galadriel flaps her wings, and lands next to Siegfried. Once she's seated, Siegfried hands her the plate and a small metal trinket which she thinks mortals call forks. She removes her helmet and sets it next to her, then takes them from him. She holds the fork awkwardly, not entirely sure if she's holding it right.

"Well, what are you waiting for? It's not gonna bite you or anything, give it a try."

Slowly, she pokes the plate's contents with her fork and lifts it to her mouth. She chews, copying what she'd seen mortals do as best she can.

"So how is it?"

"...It is wonderful, just as the others said."

"Good to hear, Gunther put this together himself after I explained everything to him."

"Give him my thanks when you next see him."
>>
>>41386262
Galadriel and Siegfried continue to chat while she samples the mortal food. They talk about training, the honor guard, amongst other things. Truth be told though it's more Siegfried talking and Galadriel listening, as she's too focused on eating to really pay attention. The plate is nearly spotless when she finally gives it back to him.

"Well, glad you enjoyed it Galadriel. I think I'm gonna go ahead and head to sleep now though."

"No training today?"

"Not today, I'm too tired after everything else that's happened. We'll get back to it tomorrow though."

"Very well then. Sleep well, Siegfried."

Siegfried closes his eyes, then disappears. Galadriel focuses her mental eye on the real world, and Siegfried comes to focus once again. She sees him set the empty plate on a desk, then crawl into bed.

It had been a long time since she was so friendly with one of her champions. It wasn't so much from lack of trying, but more a result of her reputation. Many of her champions were cautious around her, worried they'd do something that would make her denounce them. Others treated her not as an ally, but as a higher being, something which made her very uncomfortable. And then there were those who simply disliked her, either because of something she'd said, or because they feared she would bring them to their deaths, like all her champions before them. Asher had been the only Champion she'd been on truly friendly terms with, until Siegfried came along.
>>
>>41386270
She remembered her first meeting with Siegfried. He didn't know it, but she'd thought him a fool when he used the tower's gloves to lift her and fight Andras. When he actually succeeded in taking his arm, she still thought he was a fool, but a fool with enough sense to keep her safe while she continued looking for a real champion. She remembered when she told him as much during his first meditation session, and how he'd actually laughed and agreed with her. That only made her think he was even dumber than she originally thought. She remembered how he constantly said he didn't want to be Champion, that he would be glad to pass her off to someone else. She'd actually felt somewhat insulted whenever he said that, and her opinion only grew worse.

She remembered how worried he was when Erika was nearly killed by the imp's plot. She remembered when he slew the doppelganger, then surprised her by giving it a proper burial. She remembered how he led off the Scavengers so his friends could escape, being captured in the process. Most of all, she remembered how he stood up to Alastor at the farm, then led it's prisoners to safety. Little by little she realized she'd been too quick to judge him, and started seeing him not as a temporary champion, but a real one. Where once she found it a chore to speak with him unless it concerned their mission, she now found herself looking forward to their conversations.

The memory of Asher being crushed to death comes to her mind. Every champion she's ever had has died, even Asher. As she watches Siegfried sleep, she wonders if he will die as well.

He won't. She'd lost too many people in the crusades, she will not lose another. As Siegfried drifts off to sleep, Galadriel makes a promise. She will not let another friend die in the crusades. She will make sure he survives, that she swears.

Alright, gonna call it a night here. Next thread should be Friday, but keep an eye on twitter just in case. I think I should be good to run on Fridays again though.

Sparks, approximately how much time has elapsed since the big events in the timeline of this war? Like when demons first invaded the material world, when the Angels retreated back to the Void, and when the first Crusades under a newly sealed Galadriel took place? I'd just like to get a rough idea of how much time has passed since these things, since Gala has been fighting for humanity since they were in the stone age and all.

The first crusade started approximately 1800 years ago. Galadriel is about 2000 years old, for reference. When she was 100, mortals started making bigger communities, forming towns and cities and paving roads to other communities rather than living in small villages and only ever coming in contact with other villages if they're relatively close.

However, even back when Galadriel was young humans (which refers to actual humans as well as elves and dwarves in this case) weren't technically in the stone age. They learned to make metal weapons from Aureus himself, a couple centuries before Galadriel came to be (At least in the incarnation). It was in Asher's time when they started using iron rather than bronze, however.

Today, technology is roughly around what you'd expect of a high-fantasy society. Guns and magitech aren't a thing, but alchemists have figured out how to make explosives, as you all saw when you escaped the farm in Alastor's domain.

You have no idea. Finding out there's a new champion has basically been the equivalent of telling a kid he's going to disneyland to him. The fact that the last champion to make it to his doorstep was Andras, who coped out and ended up switching sides before he even had a chance to fight him seriously, doesn't exactly help.

Of course, all this also means that if he ever gets his hands on you he's going to take his time tearing you apart so he can savor it. So yeah, try not to let that happen.
