Alright, alright. You can deal with this. This paladin probably has no idea what to expect. You turn back towards the guardian. "What sort of defenses does the castle have?"

The skeletal constructs mouth creaks open slightly, voice gliding out as he answers. "In it's prime, the defenses were vast, and hold off armies with ease. However, almost none of them are actually working at the moment, and many will take days to repair."

Damn. You'll have to take care of him yourself then. In the meantime however, you might as well try to learn a bit more about what this new power you've gained can actually do. You make your way back down the stairs, heading for the throne, for some reason you get the feeling that if you want to get anything done, that's the place to do it.

You sit on the throne, hand immediately coming to rest over the black gemstones set at the fingertips. You close your eyes focusing your thoughts inward, and clearing your mind. Almost immediately, you notice something, almost like a second heartbeat, you can feel it through your hand, out of pace with your own, it sounds...weak, feeble, like it's been slowing down. You reach out to it with your magic, and at your touch you feel it jolt to life, rapidly gaining in pace, sounding stronger.

Almost as if from a great distance, you can hear a rumbling, groaning, like massive blocks of stone moving after years of lying still, something has changed.

...You should probably go and see what that was. It would be just your luck if you just accidentally blew up part of the castle. You stand up, moving away from the throne, jasmine following behind you as you head in the general direction of the noise.

After a short walk, you come to a passageway that you could've sworn was blocked off earlier, the hallway eventually leads to a flight of steps leading up, a faint silvery-blue light coming from the room at the top. You advance, something drawing you forward.

The stairs open into a large circular room, several openings line the walls, and in the middle, hovering above a pool of water, is a massive orb of some strange material, almost identical to the spike that pierced you hand earlier.

You walk forward, feeling yourself drawn in, as Jasmine waits by the stairs, clearly more than a little nervous. You step out into the shallow water, approaching the mysterious ball. You reach out, touching it with your palm.

The world goes dim, the ball growing to fill your vision, you can feel it thrumming, beating like a massive heart.

Eclipse, there's no such thing as writer's block. It's just self-deception. It's only real until you decide it's not real.

Frequently, the "cure" is refusing to let the feeling that nothing you're writing is of any quality stop you from writing it.
Author John Brown likes to call this approach "Farmer's Faith." If you put enough manure on it, something beautiful will eventually grow there.
Author Jim Butcher says "I don't have writer's block, I have a mortgage."

If you're having trouble writing, there's a reason for it, and it usually has to do with a problem with your story. Maybe you've run into a situation that you can't seem to solve. Perhaps a character you've been writing has a difficult decision and you're not really sure which is the right choice for your story. It could be that you're having trouble making a solid connection between two parts of your story.

Whatever the case, the problem isn't that some invisible source of writing quality and wisdom has disappeared.

The problem of "writer's block" can be solved in dozens of ways, the majority of which simply require you to KEEP WRITING. When it happens to me, I start posing questions to my players. I just straight up ask them for what they'd like to see, what they imagine certain details to be like, and they always deliver. Writers who aren't running a quest will usually just put their trust in the "edit and re-write" process.

Maybe you're stopping because you're afraid the quality is going to take a nose-dive. And that's fair. You're afraid that maybe you're going to lose players, that your quest is going to die and you'll lose the thread.
But I promise you, continuing to run like that is a maybe. Cutting off a thread like you've done here is a definitely. You will definitely kill your quest, drive your playerbase off, and be remembered as a poor-quality QM.

In front of you, stands a figure in a black cloak, obsidian plates resting over his eyes a look of vague disbelief is painted on his face as he stares at you, before rushing forward, grabbing you by the shoulders and pushing, and you feel yourself being thrown from the marble.

After taking the first lord of ravenchain's advice, and using the castle heart to re-light the central fire, you head back to the throne room, meeting up with Karin and Ergon. Your...fuck it, there's to many great's. Your grandfather disappears somewhere, gliding through a wall. You explain the plan to your allies, (apparently quite a bit of time passed while you were inside the globe, the paladin's probably going to be here in just a few minutes)

Jasmine and Karin stand on the dias behind the throne, Karin behind Jasmine, peaking out from behind her legs...if you didn't know better you'd swear Jasmine was blushing, and Ergon in the opposite corner, to one side of the door, ready to step in if it looks like things are going to get out of hand.

You meanwhile, are sitting on the throne, back straight, with your familiar sitting on your lap in its cat-like form. Just another surprise in case things go wrong, you may want to deal with him yourself, but you're no idiot.

Soon, the paladin strides in, no doubt with his horse tethered up outside He glances around, completely missing Ergon standing behind him, his eyes fall on Jasmine and Karin, and they flame up even more before he turns towards you, as you look at him with an expression of absolute pity, stroking the black and orange cat in your lap with one hand.

"Villain!" He proclaims, (really the only word fitting for how his chest puffs out and his mustache twitches)"You dare keep hostages? Release the maiden and child from your foul clutches! Then face me so that I may purge you evil from this world!"
