The men of Vastov Minor stand up and their faces show only pure joy at seeing you. "Forgive us, sire, we did not dare to hope. Shall we open the gate?" As one of them begins to move the Knight of the Order shakes his helmed head. "You are King Valorian? We would politely request that you come and meet with our Captain." The Klassvid guards speak up, "Is that really necessary, Vagner? The King is clearly a force for good in these days, we do not need to have him questioned." The burly Order Knight, Vagner, looks over to his comrades who offer no response as he nods,

"Very well, open the gates." The soldiers of Vastov Minor run and scramble, pushing the levers and pulling the ropes until, eventually, the massive gate in the wall opens. Your army files through quickly and the gate is closed behind them. Once the gate is secured again you look at the Order Knights and,

You walk up to the Sentires and they bow their heads to you in reverence, "Noble sire, it is a great sight to see you here in our lands." You nod and offer your appreciation for holding this wall. "Tell me, these Order Knights, what are they doing here?"

One of the men speaks up, "Sire, we were pushed to extreme circumstances with those monsters in the south. The Order approached us and was kind enough to offer us military protection and the services of their foremen, to construct this great wall and leave a small defensive force here to ward off any attackers."

You nod, "And, what do they get in exchange for this?" The man sighs, "Access to the gold and jewel mines to the north of the nation. It....was not relevant for us, sire, we couldn't maintain them or draw anything of value while we were fighting for our lives." You nod and look at the Order Knights.

"You, I wish to speak to your captain." The Knight nods and sends one of his brothers as he keeps watch over you. Ten minutes later a horse rides up and the rider dismounts, scaling the wall quickly as he approaches.

It is a young man, with rings around his eyes from exhaustion, "Ah, and you must be King Valorian of Vastov. Welcome to Klassvid." You nod, "Thank you for meeting with me, Captain, tell me..."

"What are your men doing in these lands? I am grateful that your presence has helped repel the Zestreid, however, the situation requires a proper diplomatic event that you are not able to participate in." The Captain smiles wearily and nods, "Ah, of course, good King Valorian. You seek to reunite this land with your own?" You smile, "I do not discuss the will of Kings with common men."

Looking around, you gesture for him to follow you and head down the long stairs to your men. Once down there you rejoin with Elsabeth who regards the Order Knight with an impressed look. She whispers, "These men are fearsome fighters. I can tell that they are worth many of our own with their few. Avoid conflict, sire."

You nod and smile at the Captain, "So, is there a regional governor? Someone I can speak to on matters of state other than you?" The Captain laughs, "Certainly, if you would like, I can send a message to the Grandmaster himself, it will take four days."

"I have a war to win, Captain, withdraw your men from the capital at once, I will deal with you and your ilk in short order. For now, I will visit the city" He smiles sadly and nods, riding off with his agents as you mount up and ride towards the massive city nearby. It is easily three times or twice the size of Cernorian, in sheer area. This city is a jewel, its buildings are pristine and well kept, and when you approach the gates swing open nearly instantly.

Your army marches in and people gather around from all sides, cheering and welcoming the arrival of a proper King. As you march down the main road you see groups of Order Knights, arms crossed, glaring at you from various pockets and corners, but you ignore them for the moment. You arrive at the Palace in the center of the city and are welcomed by a large crowd of citizens and, at the top of the stairs, a frazzled looking middle-aged woman with frizzy red hair.

"Welcome, King of Vastov. I am Duchess Natalia of Vastov Minor." She bows her head, hair bouncing wildly as she does so, before you dismount and greet her. "Thank you, Duchess," you recognize the strange title, it was one taken long ago by the people of this city for their ruler, since they never wanted another King but the one in Vastov. Now, it seems, it is time to get back into the fold for them.

"Duchess, it is truly wonderful to see my lost subjects, however, time is a pressing factor, and I am in dire need of an update on the current events." She nods and steps back, gesturing, "Yes, of course, sire, please."

The two of you step in, Elsabeth keeping close to your shoulder. Once inside, a beautiful table sitting in an ominous looking room framed by tall statues of regal figures. You look around at them in a brief moment of wonderment as she sits down and offers you a seat.

Once seated, she begins, "Sire, things have become worse and worse with each passing year since the Raiders have advanced against us. Our scouts have informed us that they wield tremendous weapons of warfare, things that can pierce the wall. To stop them from doing so, we have paid the Order direly for their support." She sighs, rubbing her neck, "I must admit, sire, we thought the royal line dead. The army has been reduced to a shadow of its former self, but, despite that, we have continued to innovate and learn."

She goes over to a cabinet and opens it, presenting a strange wooden object with a miniature bow strapped to the front of it. "This, sire, is a crossbow. The engineers in our city have designed it, we learned from the Order who uses this with nearly all of their men, even a peasant can be deadly armed with such a weapon, though they are difficult to craft. We possess many, would you like us to give you what soldiers we have with these?"

Once we have the cities finances in order, having a new income and decreasing corruption, we can hire some more maven warriors, and purge the lands of the raiders. Atleast enough to reclaim a few key fortresses we can hold them off with while we train/hire the reinforments.

"If it can do what you claim, then I would be honored to have them in my ranks. I assure you, once this war is over I will do whatever I can to keep you safe." She smiles and nods, "Thank you, sire. I assure you, that once this war is complete, and you have reclaimed Lost Vastov, that I will be more than happy to return our land to the greater Kingdom."

You nod and exchange terse pleasantries with her, being certain to keep everything relevant to the conversation before leaving. A messenger was sent, and by the time you exit the palace you see a group of one hundred and fifty men, armored with a breastplate, helmet, greaves, and each carrying a tall crossbow on their shoulders. They salute you and join the ranks of your soldiers.

[Stats are up, and I think you'll have fun with these guys. Bonus glory to the man who posts those stats in the thread.]

That done, you arrange with the city to gather information about its population, economics, and the rest and then find quarters for your army for the night. Unsurprisingly, it is very easy to find housing, as the city is largely empty of people. You are given a room in the Palace, the best room, and contemplate sleep. It is well past the dawn of the next day.

You cannot sleep, however, your mind is restless on the mention of the spear. You get up, strapping your sword-belt around your comfortable clothes, and head down with a lantern in the other hand. A long stone staircase, which is kept dry and cool, somehow, leads down a nearly ten minute long flight of stairs.

At the bottom a large chamber, carved from the rock with inhuman tools, leading you to believe it was magic, expands around you. This chamber is carved perfectly spherical, creating a hollow orb of stone. And, in the middle of this room, levitates a spear. This weapon is golden, with no embellishments, and floats a few inches above the ground, bobbing calmly amidst its protector.

A tornado of winds, rampaging winds, twist around it, visible through the dust it carries, forming a cocoon around the spear itself. You can see, a feel your stomach tighten a bit at the sight, a skeletal hand nearby, severed by those winds. You lick your lips and walk towards it. As you draw near, the cold winds grow more fierce, and you can feel it through your hair and garments.

You draw your sword and swing at it, finding no winds emerging. It seems you cannot draw the wind forth from the sword at will. Thus stumped, you just reach towards the spear. The winds rush up your arm and you feel a sharp intense pain as it does so. Blood is drawn from your hand from a long shallow cut, and soon it begins swirling around the spear.

However, as the blood surrounds it, the winds weaken and die down until, finally, they stop, and the spear simply hovers unprotected in front of you.

You reach out and grab the spear. As soon as its weight is in your hands you feel your eyes rolling back into your head and collapse onto your knees. As the stone ground rushes up to meet your face the spear burns warm and holds you upright through its rushing strength.

A male figure, whose outline is merely suggested by the wind, stands in front of you, both there and not at once. It speaks in a deep voice, "To you who have taken this spear, know that you now carry a great weight, for none but the blood of Cernos may wield such a weapon. The price of this item is more than can be known, and while it speaks to your blood, it is of unimaginable destiny. For the Fate of this weapon is heavy, and you must now bear its burden." Its message delivered, the figure vanishes and strength returns to your limbs. You stand again and sheathe the sword, the spear feeling nothing different from a standard spear.

You return to your room and as soon as you can, hit the sheets, exhaustion overtaking you.

~Dawn of the Fifthday~

A knock on your door rouses you, "Sire," the voice speaks, "News, your Majesty...the Grandmaster of the Order has arrived, suddenly, and wishes to speak with you." You stir immediately, dress as quickly and best as you can, as Elsabeth joins you from the neighboring room.

The hall wherein you met the Duchess last night is now filled, completely flanked, by Order Knights, each holding swords as thick as your thigh, and some of them have eyes that radiate golden light. At the table sits a burly older man, his short white hair and white beard, along with the eyepatch he wears, marks him as a figure not to be trifled with. His armor is ornate and filled with insignia and holy marks of Thusk.

You approach and he stands, "Ah, finally, the much-rumored King Valorian." You politely nod your head as he offers you a hand.

You grip his hand and smile, politely, "It is a pleasure to finally meet with you, esteemed Grandmaster." The older man nods and you sit opposite him. "I heard of your arrival in Klassvid and sought to meet with you with all haste." You nod and he faces you with a stern look,

"I knew your father, Valorian King, and he would never have severed such a decisive and reckless blow to such delicate diplomatic relations as to march your army into neutral territory under our influence and demand that my men yield to your army." He pauses and shakes his large head, "That is truly a careless action for such a young king."

He then locks eyes with you, the barest hints of a scowl on his face, "But, I am a merciful leader, and I understand that you have a war to wage, so I will not occupy too much of your time, as I am also engaged in several fronts."

The man produces a document, placing it in front of you, "We will forgive your trespass and forsake our right of further conflict, and in exchange, you will yield all land currently hosting my military, from Vastov Minor." The map he shows you, extremely detailed as it is, shows that basically everything more than ten miles north of this city would become his.

The land and the people are not really worth that much to them. the mines are worth everything, but due to the logistics problems they are asking for territory. You smile politely at him and shake your head, "I believe, Grandmaster, that such a deal is not in my kingdom's best interests. You have misrepresented the situation, Grandmaster, for this land is not Klassvid, as you have renamed it in an effort to hide the truth. This is Vastov Minor, and it is rightfully my land, held by my stewardess, the Duchess, until such a time as one of my line were able to reunite it. And reunite it I shall. However, your service in protecting and building this wall are not lost on me."

As you speak you see the large man's face become redder and redder behind his white beard, "I will allow you to have 50% of the mines' yield for the price of your labor there. However, you will not take sovereign territory from me, I am its rightful lord and master." He slams his hands onto the table, "This is an outrage! Your ancestors left this place to rot, and WE improved it, WE defended it, and now you claim our work!? Watch your tongue, King Valorian, for you do not wish to err diplomatically."

Elsabeth puts her hand on her hip, close to her sword, but not on it, as the tension in the room increases by several degrees. He stands up now and sticks his finger straight at you, "You have had several chances to spite my face with every turn, and you have done nothing short of it. You undermine me in La Faresse, you invade my protectorate here, and you shame and humiliate the friend of my nation, the good Count Piotr. Were I certain of your madness, boy, I would think you wished for war! Now, accept the damned terms, or I will make you accept them."

Eleisha's confession from the previous thread:

>"I, at the age of fourteen, was sent to the Order of the Tower to receive training from Madame Agatha, a courtesan of the Grandmaster's, and his distant relation from an impoverished line. My father offered to bolster her family's failing estate in exchange for training me. Through his support, she was quickly married into the Grandmaster's home, after his wife passed of mysterious circumstances. And so, I was trained. I learned how to read and write, how to be proper, I was taught what men liked, and most importantly, everything that kings liked."

>"When peace was made, my Father ordered me to present myself to the King, not as Eleisha, but as Gerta von Helmut, a member of Madame Agatha's branch of the family. I entertained him and began to strike up a relationship with him. My breeding was sufficient and while the relationship grew, it was suddenly ended after his passing. So, my part in the deal was complete, and I was expelled from the Order's lands back to my Father's home. He was not pleased at the turn of events, and after Count Igor was defeated, he said that he would intend to have you take my hand in marriage."

This was the Count and Madame Agatha's (now wife to the Grandmaster?) plot. Eleisha was introduced as a branch of Agatha's family, not the heir of the Grandmaster.

TL;DR The Grandmaster probably wasn't part of -this- plot.

Such disonherable tactics from the so called holy knights of the order is shamefull!"

I think now would be a good time to fetch that spear.

He will not fight us if he also has to fight all the citizens of this land at the same time. Such a war would make it all worthless.

We claim this land by birthright, and we will prove it.

You place the spear, which you thought to bring with you in your hurry, on the table, holding it in your hand. His men move slightly forward, but he raises his hand, almost daring you to fight.

"Grandmaster, I do not believe you are properly seeing the facts. This land, and its people, are mine. I AM descended of Cernos, who founded these lands, and they are my rightful claim. If you wish war, then you shall have it, but it is a struggle that you will not enjoy, for you flag already at present, and with a wolf at your heels and a monster at your front, you will be torn to shreds." You smile and he reduces his anger from full on fangs bared, to simply scowling at you, though he appears confused now,

"As for Count Piotr, I am well aware of his actions in my father's reign. These are things I would not bring up in polite company, Grandmaster." The older man coughs and sits up straight in his chair. He grits his teeth, you can see his jaw bulging in frustration as he rises.

"I will forgive your misdeeds, and return all your holdings to you, in exchange of a promise of non-aggression towards our lands and holdings. And, any political union between you and La Faresse must be done with an Order representative present. Is that a deal?"

"Very well, I am more than happy to those terms. However, I will choose the representative." He waves his hand, "Fine, yes, as you wish. Let us have it in writing!" He claps his large hands together loudly as one of his knights steps forward with a pen and quill, the terms drawn up already. He signs the bottom, and you, after scanning closely for any duplicity, sign it as well. The two of you stand up and squeeze hands, but as you do so, he looks into your eyes, "Thusk Preserve You, King Valorian."

Thinking little of it, you thank him as well and his soldiers gather around him. With him in the middle they bow their hands and chant slowly before they all become enveloped in a column of white light and then, when the light fades, are vanished from sight. Such acts of magic are, as always, impressive to you, yet you know that he cannot use it to go wherever and whenever he pleases.

Regardless, you sigh a large one, filled with relief as Elsabeth moves her hands back to her side, "That was becoming quite tense, I did not like our odds." You nod and agree with her, resting the spear on your shoulder, before heading out to rally with your forces.

The soldiers are busy mustering, and a courier comes to you saying that there is a disturbance with some of the citizenry and your soldiers. This sounds dire.

"I'll go." You tell the courier who nods and runs off through the narrow streets. You follow closely on foot, unable to go on horse, but as you do so, he starts pulling ahead, and Elsabeth struggles to keep up, though she maintains sight on you at all times. As you move through the streets, passing between large house and large house, suddenly, one of the doors bursts open, right in front of you.

You stop suddenly and seven men, dressed in white robes, emerge, clubs in hands, and start swinging at you. Immediately you raise your spear to defend, and block a few. Then you hear another door open behind you and see, out of the corner of your eye, six more men pour forth, these armed with daggers.

You immediately swing your spear down, slicing through the neck of one of the attackers. Pulling back quickly, you thrust into the stomach and then chest of another, leaving five standing. Behind you, you hear a voice calling out, "Sire! I'm on the way!" Metal on metal, and then metal through flesh sounds, and you cannot know the victor, though Elsabeth is a capable bodyguard, she is not invincible.

On the matter at hand, however, the club wielding assailants start swinging, and you admirably defend them, inevitably, some blows land on your shoulders and sides. The clubs are heavy, and drive the breath from you, but you fight on valiantly. The sound of feet rapidly running up behind you forces you to turn and parry the attacker's dagger with your spear, and seeing the opening, the remaining club wielders charge.

However, they never reach you. The sound of a body dropping behind you reaches your ears, and after killing the knife wielder, you see a thin male figure, shirtless and in hide pants, whose hands move like bolts of lightning as his black knives find the necks of the attackers and leave the five men dead in a flash. He turns to face you and you can see a wooden mask, carved with a frightening image portrayed, as he calls out,

"King Valorian! I beg an audience!" Before you can speak he hurdles over you and stabs the last men with knives, pulling the door shut so that Elsabeth can see you safe.

The thin man bows and as he does so you can see his long thin ears that mark him as clearly inhuman. In his hands, spread out so you can see he means no harm, are the blood-drenched knives of black stone he used to deadly effect.

The three of you return to the palace in short order and once inside he removes his mask revealing fair features and a very slight face. His pointed ears are even more noticeable once the mask is removed. He puts his knives away and bows,

"King Valorian, it is my honor to be standing before you! The great King Valorian, long-honored be his name and successful his conquests. I am Thorn Bel'Kaeth, of the Bel'Kaeth Tribe from the far Vy'thren Jungles to the south." He smiles, raw excitement on his face, "Oh great king, I have traveled a great distance on the word of your diplomat who spoke only wondrous things of your name and deeds. Indeed, upon seeing you, it was evident that you were the child of destiny." You smile politely as Elsabeth smirks, and you shoot her a quick look so she acts more seriously. Thorn continues.

"My people, sire, are simple. Yet I alone was the one who heard the voice of a great spirit, a mighty human mage who bent magic like a tailor weaves cloth. He told me of a descendant, a great human King, whose path would meet with mine. When your diplomat spoke of you, I knew the two to be the same and came to find you with all speed. "Of course, Thorn, I welcome you into my service." The joy on the young man's face is unmatched as he grips your hands with his own. His strength is staggering, and you can feel his muscles nearly vibrating with life and strength.

[Hero: Thorn Bel'kaeth, Elven Spirit Warrior Gained]

"Tell me, though, which diplomat?" He blinks and the nods, "Ah, yes, I suppose it is not very clear about my origins, allow me to explain. I was in the north of my lands, fighting the Centaurs for amusement, as I am dear friend to their warlord and regularly duel with him, whereupon I met a most strange sight, a human. And he was quite eloquent and eager to speak to me when I approached him. I asked him about his master, and he told me of you, sire, and from what he told me, I knew it was same man from my visions." You nod, taking it all into your mind as you gesture for him to follow you.

The army has finished mustering, with no sergeants reporting of any unrest in the city, other than what that courier told you. Swearing silently, you ride on. Amazingly, Thorn appears to need no steed, happily jogging alongside your horse without becoming winded.

Your army passes through the great gate, and as you do so the captain of the sentries calls out, "Sire! This morning we saw a large body of Raider soldiers examining around this area. "Then we shall give them a good surprise." You pass through the gate into the surrounding wooded lands south of it and begin establishing an ambush. After conferring with your command staff, scouts, and Elsabeth, you have found three plans presented before you.

>A) Split the Archer and Khazidite units into two packs, then use the cavalry unit to draw the enemy into a cross-fire. Any who pass through the killzones will be met, firmly, with line and heavy infantry. Thorn will join the front lines.

>B) Use the Khazidite units as the hammer in a hammer-and-anvil strategy, forcing them to engage your ambushing front troops before they get stricken down from the rear. Thorn will join the Khazidites.

>C) Draw them into a protracted chase, wearing them down, then wear their numbers with bow and bolt, before finally sweeping them away in a surge of cavalry. Thorn will be part of the cavalry.

Sometimes it's alright to leave survivors, especially if they tell their bandit friends about the slaughter you engineered.

Your sergeants bow their heads in acknowledgement of your orders, and begin to set them into effect....

~Fifthday, Dusk~

A group of your scouts return with news. A large host of Raiders, nearly three thousand strong, are marching towards your position. The scouts report that one of the engines as described the old woman, the Volfebuss, is amongst their numbers. The description of this weapon does bring fear to your men's hearts, but you rally them with a show of your strength, raising the spear high into the air and calling out the name of your shared homeland. The men respond in kind and assume their positions with eagerness to do duty to their King.

As you sit with the cavalry, amidst the line and heavy infantry, you hear a voice, and looking around, it appears no one else can hear it but you.

"Valorian Vastov, I know of your deeds in my people's lands, and I am satisfied by the urge to conquer in your heart." The voice, dark and female, fills your ears, "Should you triumph today over these men, I will favor you, and should you worship me as your Goddess, I will bring victory and greatness to you, for the rest of your days. Do not decide now, think..." The voice fades into nothingness as a horn sounds in the distance. The enemy is nearing.

The enemy army steps into the wooded area from which your men burst. The roar of your soldiers, screaming, "For the King!" fills the air as the large men, each of them easily a head and shoulders taller than your men, try to brace themselves, but to no avail. Your soldiers collide into them with a fire and fury you've never seen before. You ride into the central column with your Honor Guard, smashing Raiders to the ground under your hooves, their blood spraying up your lances.

Immediately, a massive host of them turn tail and begin to run away from the rear, seeing the ambush on the front. Nearly eight hundred men die in a matter of moments.

The enemy is annihilated! ]

Your apprentice mage unit raises their hands and as one chant out the same spell. Flames dart down from above, unbidden and terrifying on the giants who pull the Volfebuss. All of them but one die, the last one screaming in agony as his flesh peels away from his bones.

The horn blasts out loudly from your herald, and your standard is raised high and swung for all to see. With a hellish roar the Khazidites rush from their distant corners, the Bound Hunters sprinting like horses and lunging into the rear of the few non-fleeing men. The Bound Hunters, though smaller in stature, deliver blows that part bone and sinew like a hand through the water. Their comrades soon join, death and destruction delivered at the bite of the axe.

The din of battle dies out and hundreds upon hundreds lay dead on the field, a thousand and some change fled, but with the deadly ambush that was unleashed, precious few losses, numbering perhaps fifty in total, were suffered this day.

You ride over, quickly, to the Volfebuss and slay the last giant man. The massive engine of war is as grand as described, a roaring wolf shaped barrel and runes of magical origin traced all down the barrel. "Remarkable." You say, looking over the item as your army cleans their gear and reorganizes after the slaughter.

"Sire!" A scout reports as he kneels in front of you, "The fleeing men are still running from us, yet their speed is unnatural. Shall we push on?"

"Thorn! Pull that engine with us! We're going to keep pushing, lads, come!" The elf puts his knives away and grabs the chains attached to the mighty engine. With a brief grunt of effort he pulls what took five giant men to pull, alone. He truly is a heroic individual. Elsabeth rides with you at the front, wiping her sword, "It is a shame, King Valorian, that the battle did not go longer. My Sisters would have been overjoyed to join the fray." You nod, "There will be yet an opportunity, I am certain."

The next several hours, well into the night, you trail the enemy movements until, nearly at dawn, your army well past the point of tired and ready to rest, the forward scouts report that they have stopped at a large circular wooden fortress with a tall central building, about two miles ahead. "Sire! The enemy forces are appearing to be regrouping at this fortress. We have asked around the villages, this fort appears to be called Hjertheim, and according to them, we are no more than a day's trip from Hoogstrad. This area is relatively safe, shall we make camp?" You nod and give the order. The men immediately begin setting up tents and grabbing food, not lighting fires. Your scouts fan out to provide a forward warning net.

Thorn drops the chains, glistening from sweat, but otherwise not robbed of breath despite pulling the giant engine for what must have been six or seven hours. "Great King! That battle truly was an excellent strategy, though I wish I had a greater chance to prove my strength of arms." You laughs softly, "Worry not, Thorn, I will give you that opportunity soon." He smiles and nods, bidding you good night and running up a tree, disappearing into its heights to sleep, presumably.

You fight your exhaustion and the pain in your legs from riding all day and wander the camp, dressed in your regal, but comfortable, garments. As you wander out into the field to inspect the massive engine of war, a scent of heady perfume fills your nose. Warm hands touch your shoulders as the voice from before whispers, "It's a truly amazing device, isn't it, Valorian Vastov?" You turn to face the speaker and see nothing, but hear a giggle in the night air.

"No, no, no, mustn't ruin the surprise. It's a secret, oh mighty King, what would my people say if they knew I was out here, frolicking with another king?" The voice laughs again and you smile, a bit warm around the neck, as you kneel to look at the engine more closely. "You see," the voice whispers, "This is where the torch, which needs a specific set of runes, ignites the barrel and allows it to blast it's hot shot into whatever you need it to." Her verbiage makes you flush more and she laughs, "Oh, Valorian, what a mind you have." You laugh and shake your head.

The feeling of hands on your back appears again as she whispers, now, "I can teach your mages the runes, but they lack the proper ability to craft them! What a shame! However, I can tell you a little secret, for being such a great King today." You nod and feel lips against your ears, your eyes forced to close, "The Raiders don't know how to do it either, they have a prisoner, the last of the Earthfolk in existence trapped in their castle. His hammer weaves magic and steel together into a masterpiece." You nod and feel her presence leave with a last chuckle, "Til next time, Valorian King. Don't disappoint me."

You head back to sleep, exhausted from your experience, the battle and the night both equally draining.

~Dawn Sixthday~

The morning is peaceful and your army wakes and prepares itself quickly. Your scouts report the events of the evening. "Sire, news from the fort."

Each time their trip has become less and less long, so we believe whatever they are communicating with is drawing closer. Our estimate would be that a reinforcing army is coming up from the capital. You chew on some of the food prepared for you, dabbing at your mouth before giving out your orders.

"Then we mustn't waste any time! Come, everyone, quick march!" The army scrambles, gathering as much of their stuff as possible and leaving behind a bounty of evidence of your passing as they get into marching order.

Your army marches swiftly to the fortress and a lone rider comes out to speak to you. The man, tall and broad like the rest, speaks slowly, "Foreign invader, I know not who you are, or why you torment us so, but we are a peaceful people. I come to you under protection of diplomacy to speak and exchange words, that we may better understand your motives." You draw your spear and place the tip to his neck. "Elsabeth, take his arms and slap him in irons." The woman obeys, taking him off his horse and, when he tries to run, Talon sprints after him and tackles him, holding him overhead like a bale of hay and throws him to the ground, tying him up. He lets out a loud call and calls out, "Valorian King! Hail Valorian King!" The army takes up the call as they rush for the nearest copse of trees and quickly fell one, crafting a ram as swiftly as possible. Your bowmen and crossbows begin taking shots up to the wall, their projectiles landing into the defenders, who cower behind their shields and throw rocks with their hands.

The ram quickly is taken to the gate, the shields of the Men-at-Arms protecting them from projectiles. The slow thud of the ram against the gate fills the air, but this gate is no pushover. It is extremely well reinforced, and, you suspect, that several large men are holding it in place. A voice drifts through the air and reaches your ear, whispering, "His blood was yours, King! You should have taken it. None the less, I could open that gate for you, Valorian...simply ask me to, pray to me, beg me to open it, say 'Goddess, please', and it will burst open with such force that the brutes behind it will be left in stupor."

You smile to the voice, "If indeed you are a goddess, then let me do my works, and should they please you, then they shall. Should you desire me greater things, then I will know who to come to. For now, I lead through my strength." You raise your spear, "Do not let them withstand you, men, drive with all your hearts!"

The Khazidite Bound Hunters rush behind the infantry pushing the ram, at your words emboldened and encouraged, they grab the butt of the ram and rush towards the gate. A few of the beams of the gate splinter, and with two more heaves, the gate is blasted apart. The men behind the gate fall backwards in disarray as they call for arms.

Your Bound Hunters rush forward, unbidden and cut the men by the gate down swiftly, retreating under the parapet and waiting for your orders. You conduct the army lay into them with a great fury.

The defenders, still shaken from the fight yesterday, rush at your soldiers in a panic and are met with discipline and superior preparation as they are skewered upon spears and swords. The entire fort is cleared quickly and you enter with your entire army.

Not a moment to waste, you have Thorn drag the large siege engine inside and order the men immediately begin repairing the gate. Your scouts rush in, "Sire! A great host, easily twice the size of the army we bested, approaches! The have four of the Volfebuss with them, and behind those are troops of torch bearers. They intended to blow this fort to pieces!"

Their orders delivered, you prepare to give commands as the air near you bends outwards. You feel this sensation and your horse bucks and rears. The men clear away and, from seemingly nowhere, a massive man appears.

He stands twice your height and breadth, two axes of great size on his back, and the skin of a bear on his back. His beard is long and mixed black and white. One of his eyes are blinded from a wound, but he is none the less fearsome. "I am Bjorn, the Hewer of Men! And I demand single combat with King Valorian Vastov!" Your soldiers brandish their weapons at him and he laughs, "Do not insult me, whelps!" He claps his massive hands together and the soldiers are blasted off of their feet in disarray as he crosses his arms over his chest. Only you, Elsabeth, and Thorn are left standing.

The man spits on the ground, "This farce has gone on long enough. You seek to take my kingdom? Then you must take it from me by hand. If you refuse, I will collapse this fortress around your ears and bury you in its wreckage." You dismount and....
