Previously you brewed potions and got locked in a room with a bunch of bugs for an indiscernible purpose.

Your eyes flutter open, the world swimming around you.
"I suppose in hindsight, the last trial can wait."

You are sitting down on a small couch. It is red and richly embroidered while across from you is Tanni sitting on her own chair. Standing next to her is one of her Ishmin, currently holding a two ceramic mugs and a teapot instead of a sword. The image is so strange you almost laugh right then and there but you manage to hold it in.

Well that and because you feel like complete shit. That helps too.

"I must admit," Tanni said. "That did not go the way I had planned. And I feel a little culpable."
A little?
"I hope you accept this gift."

She slides over a small wooden box, one filled with dead and broken Ishmin bugs. Is this a joke? Why the fuck would she lock you in with them anyway?

"I assume you can use them for something alchemical. I really do feel bad."

"Mrnrnrngh," you say. It's probably because of the pain but her charm has none of its usual impact.

"I will give you what you seek as well," she says. "But first, this should help the pain."

The Ishmin pours you each a mug of thick brown tea. You have to admit, it smells pretty good.
Before anything can be done however, a second Ishmin enters the room and whispers something into Tanni's ear. She flinches.
"Forgive me once more, there is business I must look to. Stay here."

She departs from the room, both of her Ishmin leaving with her. The door locks behind them.

You check yourself down, tracing the wounds where the insects bit you. Luckily it looks like those heal-alls you took had an immediate effect, leaving only knots of stiff scar tissue running down your arms. If you drink more heal-alls, even those should vanish.
Your face, on the other hand...

You're not under any of your disguises so it lets you see it clearly, a twisted scar that runs up your cheek towards your eye. It doesn't hurt but you're not really appreciative of your new look.
A few more heal-alls should put that away.

You sit there considering your appearance for a moment more before the rich aroma of the spiced tea makes you hungry. What's that for, anyway? Is she trying to trick you into something else?
You do your best to inspect the two cups that Tanni left behind but you can't find anything with the naked eye. But if that tea has what you're worried about, you have more than the naked eye to rely on.

Hoping that she doesn't come back too soon, you take your cauldron out and begin to brew as quickly as you can. You rush the job, you can't help it, but in the end the Identification potion and the Soulsight Brew produced should be viable. You drink the Identification potion immediately, giving yourself awareness of the alchemical properties of everything in your immediate vicinity. It's mostly dull, due to the stone of the wall not being alchemically exciting but it does tell you exactly what you wanted to know.
There's a brew in these cups, hidden in the tea. It's only in your cup somehow, despite having watched both of them being poured from the same source. It's the minor love potion that you brewed earlier! Good thing you didn't drink this.

Whatever is occupying Tanni, she doesn't seem to have come back yet.

> Drink the soulsight brew.
> Switch your cups.

Alright, well you're not drinking the stuff. But what do you do with it? And why is this even before you in the first place? Is it another test of your abilities? You're not sure how useful that would be but then again she also thought it'd be a good idea to throw you into an Ishmin Trap so who knows. You entertain the idea of just pretending you drank it but you're not sure how well you can fake the effects of the potion.
No, you think you're best suited by simply switching the cups around. They look exactly the same after all.

You carefully change the cups, making sure you don't spill anything. And then, since she still hasn't shown up, you drink the Soulsight brew. Better to drink this now than to be questioned about it later.

Your sight expands in ways that are becoming now familiar, the walls fading away and becoming indistinct layers of light. You pierce the veil and see the souls beyond the door. There's two human souls right outside, probably the Ishmin. And in the room just down the corridor from your current location is the unknown serpent soul once more, a jeweled wonder girt by enslaved souls. The serpent is with several human souls and one of the damaged souls that you saw earlier, a placid human soul with holes bored all through it. And new holes are opening before your very eyes, the snake-soul twisting and devouring it further.

You don't know how long you watch it for, a voyeur peering through the walls. There's something inherently beautiful and intimate about the process, an elegant violation of the soul. Twists of ephemera hang in the air as the soul is expertly shredded before it winks out entirely, one more human consciousness subsumed forever within the serpent.

And with that done, the serpent makes its way back towards you...
You blink furiously, banishing the sight lest you are taken by surprise in the physical world. The door creaks open and Tanni steps in, accompanied by two Ishmin.

"I hope you were not kept waiting beyond your patience?"

You shake your head, not trusting yourself to speak. If Tanni notices anything strange about your demeanor she gives no sign.
"I really meant it, you know. I made an error with that trial."

No shit.

"I simply wanted to see how you would react when faced with an Ishmin Trap," she continues. "But in my haste I forgot that a foreigner such as yourself would not be able to recognize it for what it was. The test became far more dangerous as a result and for that, I am truly sorry."
Her words put you at ease, soothing you despite your best attempts to stay on-guard.

Lacking anything better to do, you lift up your cup and take a sip. The tea is still warm and it tastes great, a mix of different flavors all coming together as one.
Tanni nods approvingly and lifts her own cup up, though how she plans to drink it through her mask is a mystery to you. She smells it and then sets the cup back down again.
"You've been busy, have you not? Changing the cups?"

You can't stop yourself from giving the answer away.

"I expected as much. Why else do you think I'd leave you alone? That's the third trial passed."

Anyone else suspect "Tanni" is a shared identity? With the mask and robes like that, the snake could step in or out at any time. Just mark the human "Tanni" with a snake-speak art.

> "Does this mean your mistress will see me now?"

You have some fairly incriminating ideas about the identity of Tanni's 'mistress' and the relation between the two but you keep them to yourself. Instead you simply drink the rest of your tea.
"If those are the tests, does that mean the lady will see me now?"

"Perhaps," she says, an undertone of amusement as present in her voice as ever. "Do you not recall what I told you yesterday?"

Well you suppose you've danced around this for long enough. And you're a fucking awful dancer, as Hiss can attest. You look her directly in the eye. Or as best you can anyway, the mask makes it hard.
"But you already told me your name, Tanni."

"And there it is," she says, seemingly unfazed. "I was wondering how long it would take you to try that."

You stop.
"Wait. You knew I knew?"

"Not as such, no. But I was hoping you would. My apologies for the deception but I only have one Vtriya and he is absent."

"In hindsight, it was pretty obvious. That magic you use sort of gave it away?"

"Magic?"
Tanni laughs, making you feel somewhat foolish.
"I'm sorry Cennen but such an Art doesn't exist."

"But-"

"I'm very interested in humans, you know. To watch them twitch, to squirm. Why else pretend to be human myself? No magic involved, just centuries spent observing you people."
She sets her cup down, still full.
"And when you've spent long enough doing so, you learn that it flows both ways too. There's so much in the voice and in the body that you people pick up on without even noticing that it influences you. All you need is the right tone, the right situation and you can make someone feel what you want them to. Isn't that right?"

She leans closer to you and her voice takes on a lilting, seductive tone. You find yourself responding without ever intending to, a sweat breaking out on your forehead.
She laughs once more and you find yourself relaxing, the brief rush of excitement passing as if it had never been.
"Needless to say, I am very old. I've spent more time coming to this understanding than any human has ever lived and I've eaten many of you that are knowledgeable on the subject. I think that makes the foremost expert on the ways of humanity, far more so than any actual human."

"I...see," you croak. As long as you keep yourself calm, she can't influence you. You have to believe that.

"What do you want from me?"

"Is the desire for an alchemist really so hard to understand," she asks, putting on an act of innocence that sounds so downright reasonable that you have to stop yourself from just agreeing with her.
"It is a hard Art to find since it is less natural and inherent. You're not like seers or wizards who manifest their powers and can be thus tamed afterwards. Alchemy requires learning and outside education, most alchemists aren't even aware of what they are as a result."

"No," you say. "I don't believe you."

"Good. I'm afraid I possess an ulterior motive. The truth is that I require an alchemist for their ...truthfinding abilities."
Images of interrogation, torture and truth potions spring to your mind unbidden.
"No, not even truth potions. Even substances like this love potion can be used to extract the truth from an unwilling subject. Seers can be used but they are often unreliable and the one I seek has means of defense against them. So that's it! I want you to practice your Art against this particular man."

"And who is that?" you ask, trying to regain control over the conversation.

"He's called Tash and oh! Excellent. You know him already. Do you like him? No? That's a shame. I consider him my foremost apprentice. He's such a darling."

For some reason that doesn't surprise you. Hell, knowing that Tash and this serpent are related doesn't even seem that strange. They are similar, after all.

"He's my Vtriya and before that he was my musician. I took him on because I felt sorry for what had befallen his father and because he was very pretty. I thought he would make a fine adornment and so I compelled him to fall hopelessly in love with me."

"Oh of course not and he probably never will. I just thought it would be funny."
A rush of relief flows through, dampening down a sudden surge of jealousy before it even starts. No seriously, why do you care?
"But he eventually turned out to be very useful and so I made him my human right hand. And that was great! But now I fear he's hiding something from me and I want to know why."

No, something's not right here. Even if she's telling the truth about Tash, why would she trust you with this? You've only just met! And while you've undertaken some tests for her, none of them prove anything about trust.
"Hold on, we just met! How can you trust me to do something like this?"

"Trust is a strong word Cennen. But I guess you could just call it a hunch. I have faith in you."

Her words soothe your suspicions, calming you as you stare into her eyes. It's true, you realize with a giddy rush. She believes in you. And that makes you feel fantastic. Just the idea that she has faith in you, that she needs to be protected by you...
"And," she purrs, "When you succeed, I will reward you greatly. You can don the mask and stay by my side forever."

Your imagination is set alight. She believes in you, she trusts you. She wants you to stay by her side. The idea is incredibly alluring. To help her and to grow more potent under her tutelage, to become even closer to her than that...
She hasn't moved but your heart is beating a mile a minute as you consider her proposal.

Hiss would disapprove. That thought brings you down to earth. What the hell are you thinking? Why would you ever consider this appealing? But then again, Hiss isn't here and her hard-edged love seems so harsh compared to Tanni.

You imagine just what Hiss' reaction to all of this would be and the scowling face conjured by your memories almost makes you laugh, breaking whatever enchantment she had placed you under. And really, what can Tanni offer you that compares.
"No thank you. Do not that try that again."

"Oh, was I too hasty?"
She doesn't seem too put off by your refusal.
"I suppose that if I possess any flaw at all, it tends to be a lack of patience. It's best when I get to speak with you everyday for weeks."

You're a little shocked about how candid she's being about her own attempts to strip you of your free will. You can't fault her for her honesty, you suppose.
...Unless that's what she wants you to think! But what if she wants you to think that and thus do the opposite? But what if she wants you think that she wants to think and so on and so on. Should you just act rude?

"Really? And yet by asking me for your freedom, are you not admitting that I am your owner? And that thus you are property?"

Your face burns with sudden humiliation but this time you are protected by your knowledge that this is no natural emotion but one forced on you from the outside.
"Perhaps. But the offer stands."

"Granted," she says in a bored tone. "I don't know why you make such a big deal of it though. All humans are enslaved to something. Even if they don't know it."

"And one more thing! I'd like to request a favor, something I can ask of you at any time."

"Oh," she says playfully, "getting a little ahead of ourselves are we? And just what do you plan on using it for?"

Alright, looks like this is the winner.

You get out of your seat and move towards her, as if you were letting yourself be moved by the desires she'd just planted in your head. And by hell, you still feel them and perhaps that is why that when she looks at you approaching, she simply allows you to.

She stands to receive you and you throw your arms around her, feeling her form beneath the bulky robes. It's all you can do to restrain yourself as you brush a strand of hair aside to whisper into her ear.
"Caught you."

She tenses and you suddenly remember that she is probably exceedingly strong. Did the ideas she gave you cloud your mind after all? You're already jumping back when she whips her hand around, her palm brushing against you with enough force to send you flying back against the couch you had been sitting in. The couch topples, sending you to the ground as the two Ishmin draw their swords and advance!

A potion rolls out of your pack and into your hand.

The path is clear to you. You need to take her out, to do what is now second nature to you. You are a Snakecatcher, are you not? You need neither rhyme nor reason to nobble snakes, it is simply what you DO.

But how best to go about it? Those two Ishmin are going to be a problem. Sure, you could tell Tanni to make them stand down after you take her but they might cut you down before that.
How to best use you favor?

I, uh, I don't think that will do much about the suddenly very angry big constrictor and her guards that we're stuck in the room with.

I suppose we could challenge her to a game of tag, playing it off as a game played between men and women in our home village. Just to see if we can catch her, of course.

If she's dead set on flirting, she might not try to get away as hard as she usually might.

She seems to like games quite a bit, at least.

>> Act as if you are succumbing to her charms and tell her that you want to bathe with her.

Safest

> Ask her for the chance to prove your true alchemical value and brew something up for her(Specify)

Most impressive. Also, since she can apparently detect brews somewhat just by smelling them she might be extra willing to drink it. Just think of cookies and opium all wrapped up in a nice package.

Get her to try a little sip, and tell her that she'll be able to sell the crap out of it to other snakes and use it to curry favours in the courts if she's the only one who knows how to make it.

So,

> Ask her for the chance to prove your true alchemical value and brew something up for her(Specify)

>>
>Bathtime

"Uh, actually...I would like very much to bathe with you."
You drop your eyes and hope that she mistakes you for still being driven by the desires that she had planted into your mind. And they are still there and she seems to see them because she does not refuse.

Instead she laughs.
"You're a little predictable, aren't you? But that is absolutely one favor I can grant. Follow."

She rises from her seat, the two brightly-colored Ishmin falling in behind her. You follow her, this time without the blindfold as she seems sure that she has you under her power.
It is only a short journey to the bath chamber, a low room set in stone, with a wide shallow pit filled with water dominating the room. Steam is everywhere, braziers filled with rocks filling the room with an almost oppressive heat.
"I will enter first, if you find it pleasing. And do not worry, I have spent entire summers in the Ti. Heat does not lay me low."

Tanni takes a step into the water, still entirely clothed. There is a tone of mischief in her voice when she speaks again.
"I hope you don't mind if I slip into something more comfortable..."

"Uh-"

She doesn't disrobe. Not as such. Instead she discards her entire body. And what coils out is gigantic, an emerald green serpent with a mouth bigger than your head and a width nearly wider than your waist.
The steam obscures your vision, causing coils to loop back down into the darkness but she has to be at least thirty feet long. And nearly all of that is pure muscle.
The snake hisses, revealing its mouth to be filled with backwards saw-teeth. There are no fangs, no poison but this thing could kill you just as easily.

>>
> Get in the bath.

Well, what else can you do? Back down now? Of course not. You know that she's mocking you, she thinks that you wanted to bathe with her human form. And that is more or less true. But that doesn't mean you can let her scare you.
You ARE considerably less excited than you were before however.

You step into the bath, discovering with some surprise that despite the heat in the air, the water itself is tepid. The bath itself seems ill-suited for humans, being a bit too shallow even if you were sitting down. That and the fact that it is huge, almost twenty feet across tells you that it's made for the convenience of Tanni's true form before anything else.
You take your clothes off before venturing further, not sure how to go about this. What do you even do here?

Tanni is everywhere, the giant snake's body practically circumnavigating the pool. You pick your way past her as best you can, her coils bumping up against your legs.
Soap...is there any soap? You'd like there to be some for your plan to work. But there doesn't seem to be any.

Of course there isn't any soap. You curse your own ignorance. What would a snake need with such a thing? Their human forms are always as clean and perfect as they desire, you know that from long experience travelling with Hiss. There's no scrubbing brush either.

Alright. You're in the bath. You're in the bath with a giant snake. Your enthusiasm is rapidly draining to nothing. What do you do?

Rub all over her with your hands and constantly secrete nonlethal venom into the bath. It'll probably still make a snake knockout brew if combined with snake scales
>>

Nah you're just keeping the pack at the edge of the bath and you're not in immediate danger so it's pretty easy to jump back and grab something.

> Thank her for changing and tell her that this intimacy is even better than sex.

Just kidding. But seriously we should still start complimenting her as well. She's so big, she must be a very strong snake indeed, very high ranked. And such beautiful scales, such a bright and vivid pattern. Truly the Creator couldn't have meant these forms as a curse, but as something to grow to appreciate.

IDK about that last one.

Whatever we do we need to make sure she doesn't see our brand

>> Continue the plan. If there's no scrubbing brush you'll just have to improvise.

You keep going forward, doing your best to hide your branded hand. You can't let her see that, not yet. And you keep on walking, stepping past lengths of snake until she surrounds you. Can you truly be surrounded by just one creature? Apparently so, provided that they're fucking huge.
"Uh, do you want any help? To rub you down or wash you in some oils or something?"

Tanni's huge head breaks the water just long enough to hiss derisively. Of course, she can't speak with you right now. She doesn't seem to want anything either.
Well if you don't have a scrubbing brush, you guess you'll make do with your hands.

You reach out and tentatively grasp a coil that slides past you, the casual movement nearly knocking you off your feet as it almost drags you with it. You wrap your hands around it, feeling muscles beneath the scales tense and contract as you begin to scratch. You run your hands down the length, scratching at the scales.
"You're, ah, um, very beautiful. Very strong. Very big."

Whatever it is, she seems to like it or at least tolerate it so you continue on, moving from one coil to another as you see fit. And as you rub and scratch, more loose skin sloughs off and makes the alchemical qualities of the pool stronger and stronger.

And while she might be immune to being heatstruck, this much warmth does seem to be loosening Tanni up a bit as she starts to become playful.
This is not a good thing.

It starts as a playful shove from the side, one with enough strength to bowl you over and send you facedown into the water. You try to get up, water filling your mouths only for one of her coils to be in the way! She's impossibly heavy and you almost can't escape, breaking the surface with your lungs begging for air.

>>41492380
The snake leaves you to your impromptu massage for a few minutes after that before coming back around, her mouth gently swallowing up your right arm entirely to the shoulder. You can feel her teeth scrape against your skin, each tooth large enough to be a dagger. After a few long terrifying seconds she lets go.
You might not die here but the chances of you taking some sort of injury as the snake becomes increasingly frisky seems alarmingly high.

Oh no, hell no. You can't keep going. This is getting fucked up. What if she had bitten down while your arm was in there? How many heal-alls would THAT take?
This is way too dangerous. You have to do it now. Now!

You reach into the water and start stirring, doing your best to will the entire thing into one giant Snake Oil concoction. The water clouds and then begins to disappear, the water level going down as you set alchemical processes into play.
A sudden gush of steam announces the brew and Tanni reacts immediately, the giant snake going limp, her head falling to the edge of the pool.
She's alive, just unconscious. And you don't know for how long.

Now here's an even weirder problem. How are you supposed to 'capture' something this huge? With Hiss you could just pick her up but you can't even move Tanni's head, let alone the rest of the snake. You can't exactly tie her up either.
What are you supposed to do now?

>>41493144
its an interesting question of metaphysics, but i believe we've snakecaught hiss in human form. Now whether this counts as the same thing, given she's not being transformed by her own magic is an interesting question. Eugene's potion might be the safer option, but then again we have no idea what plant status will result in for her. That being said ill stick to my vote and see how it splits
>>
I will laugh if we can't capture her for bond because her soul no longer reads as snake.
>>

>Eugene's potion might be the safer option
debatable since if turn her soul to plant soul, which may interfere with or straight up disallow the bond. At least with shapestealer there are no permanent changes, not so with Eugene's potion. We could have easily use a soulmender flask to break the potion for the capture. Or use potence to tie her in a literal knot.
>>
>>41493302
We can check afterwards with soulsight
>>
>>41493413
and? We still fuck ourselves because we'll never be able to bond her and she will kill us.
>>

Since wishbonds only work between snakes and humans and we've been a plant that still counted as a human during several nobbles I'm not too worried about it
>>
> Use Eugene's Potion

Well, you still have some of those hanging around don't you? And while they're still effects you can't replicate, there are several brews you know that could come close. They're no longer as quite as valuable as they used to be.
But first, a bit of insurance to make sure the snake stays under. You slide your hand over the serpent's mouth and feed her some of your non-lethal Artvenom. How much of it would you even need to make an appreciable difference on something this large? You're not sure so you stop after a few seconds.

You pull the glowing yellow potion from your pack and prop open the snake's mouth before pouring it all down their throat.
The process only takes seconds, the water splashing with movement as Tanni begins to diminish at an alarming rate.

Thinking quickly, you grab her head and pull her body out of the water before she becomes too small. And still the process continues, her scales melding in with one another to form woody green skin until you are left with a thin snake no larger than a foot.
You stuff her into your backpack and consider it a job well done.

Now, how do you get out?

Regarding plant soul discussion: Cennen was still affected by things that affect humans regardless of his own plant nature. The effect of the potion is an additive one, not a replacement.

Yes, that means if Cennen ever invents Cursebrew he could become a plant AND a snake in nature while still being completely human.
>>
>>41493585
Hate to be paranoid but perhaps we should down a soulsight to make sure the bond is in fact in play.

> Pray for help.

Just to clarify, treebrew would not 'resize' anything affected by the Eugene potions. The flower potions wear off by the recipient absorbing sunlight and thus growing. The Treebrew makes all plants grow but it is in addition to that.
So if you use a large amount of Treebrew to grow her back to being 30feet long, she'll eventually grow to 60 feet long upon contact with sunlight.

>Pray for help

Let's see...you're pretty sure that Tanni was the only constrictor in her little private district/palace. So ideally, the only people who'll hear you now is Rock, Hiss and Aashenpreet.
And even if Tanni can still hear you, what is she even going to do about it?
Still, best to keep yourself discreet. They'll recognize you anyway.

You bow your head and mutter out a quick prayer for help, something that could be mistaken for just part of the background noise save for those who should know your voice.

And sure enough, a moment later you wince in pain as Rock broadcasts straight into your head, filling it up momentarily with a cold pressure that nearly drives you to your knees.
-Stay where you are. I am approaching-

You do what she says, getting dressed and making sure that the sleeping snake in your pack is secure. And within three minutes, the wall next to you trembles.
Rock emerges from the stone building herself anew from wanton dust and rock chips until a fluffy spider alights atop your shoulder.
"That's new."

-I 'walked' through the stone. It is like walking but not. You lack the appropriate word for it-

"No seriously, I don't remember you doing that before."

-With each day that passes, my perception of this world grows stronger. I understand one type of rock from another now and with it, understand how to make it bend. Are you safe?-

"Yeah, I'm fine."
You must look a little harried.

-You possess another snake. A third snake-

"You disapprove?"

-It seems unnecessary-

"Well, you know what they say. You can never have too many snakes."

-Nobody says that.-

"I say that. Anyway, this is the lady of the house."

-This does not feel like the proper way to return the hospitality she has offered us-

"She was going to enslave us!"

-A distinction that matters to you. Whether she says she owns you or not, are your actions restricted? I do not understand this 'slavery'-

"It's a human thing."

-Snake thing-

1/2
>>
>>41494456

"Both things! And how do you understand hospitality if you can't understand slavery?"

-All of the Dreaming either belongs to someone or IS someone. And all of it is the Creator, for which we all owe our lives. It runs on proper hospitality. Why else do you think I was able to rescue you from those three spirits? The mountain was my Domain and they could not take you from me without breaking it-

"Oh, okay. Thanks for that by the way."

-Do not mention it.-

"So uh, do you know where Hiss is?"

-No. But I know she would have heard your prayer and discerned its meaning. And unlike me, she has neither the capability or the propensity for such a subtle entrance.-

"Oh dear."

-This is an accurate summation-

Fighting any constrictor is a really tall order yes because of their native strength. Then factor in that a good deal of constrictors have a Scale Art strong enough to more or less be invulnerable to most things and that any elder constrictors have spent at least a few decades getting at least an Expert rank in some sort of fighting skill.
Not to mention an elder constrictor who actually trains and fights all the time. These are rare because a serpent's indolence is virtue but they do exist.

So basically Dragon, aerosolized poison, or copious amount of anti-scale ordinance? Coupled with lots of self buffs.

Cennen have any ideas for a celerity potion?

Cennen unfortunately has no access to any 'go fast' reagents or any brews that would suggest the matter. The best way for a celerity brew would be to track down some kind of magical beast which possesses great speed.

Like, Cennen can piece together a LOT of different effects from the reagents+brews base he has now but none of them have anything to really do with speed.

Wouldn't snake be considered fast given how they strike?
