"...and of course, you need to wear it all the time and-"
"I am not going to- Why would I even need to wear it at all?!"
"So people get used to it? This is excellent! Noone will even blink when you become Queen!"

Nin giggles, bouncing on her toes behind you, hands braced against your shoulders-
You thought you had a problem with hyperactivity, but it's a drop in the ocean that is an excited moth, apparently.

For all her energy- and the distraction that the current conversational topic provides- you're still on the job.
Which means keeping an eye on the forest, keeping pace with the caravan, and generally being bored.

You're not sure if you prefer the empty, relentless silence of your usual shifts, or the nonstop chatter of your friend.

You sigh and roll your shoulders, adjusting your grip on your spear, one hand scratching idly at your nose.
Your new armour is nice, at least. A bit odd. It'll definitely take getting used to.

There's sensation there- muted and distinct from your actual sense of touch. You're fairly certain that the chitin is alive, just separate from your regular chitin? If that makes sense.

But it most definitely is thicker, heavier and tougher than the regular stuff.
Also, it in no way restricts your movement, so that's a plus.

You threw a tabard on over the whole thing after a guard asked you if you were naked under it.

In any case, you've got work and the happiest moth of all time to deal with.

We were a human woman named Sarah, who lived in an Earth-like world, died, and was reincarnated as an Arachne in another world.

Through a one in a billion fluke, we remember (most of) our past life.

Now, we go on High Adventures and have fun with our friends, while we get used to our new life as an unstoppable Apex Predator from Nightmare and Legend.

What's that mean, exactly? Just that it's super fire that's better than any normal fire has any right to be at rank 6?
>>
Been thinking about weapons. Several times now, our monstrous strength has crushed our spear in our grip or bent it out of shape.

That was mostly fine before, our Forge powers let us fix it no problem.

But it's going to be different now. Our already freakish strength has reached ridicules new heights. We're going to turn that thing into a pretzel the first time we swing it in anger.

We need a new weapon. One forged out of incredibly strong (possibly magic) alloys that can stand up to our treatment. We need to work on one the next chance we get.

That brings up our old spear. More specifically, the Lightening Stone and its setting. I say we cut off the excess and reshape it into a sword for Nin.

Nin is by far the most vulnerable of our group, being a valuable kidnapping target and all. So having a sword that can shoot magic lightening seems like a good idea.

>>
>>41503711
It's a stronger version of the skill that's still at the relatively low level it was previously at, because it was merely upgraded through evolution and not levelled up through training.

>>
Another question; Could Lyra meld the river metal from her first glaive with her pure metal magic spear?
>>
>>41503735
We could fill our spear with our metal thread. That stuff will be amazingly strong. Arrange it in the spear in hexagonal shape and it should withstand our strength.
>>
>>41503883
>We could fill our spear with our metal thread.
Then it would still bend.
>>
>>41503893
That depends on the property's of the webbing. Does it harden? or could we make it harden? etc.

We know our webbing will be extra strong. Its also easily on hand to experiment with.
>>
>>41503850
Pretty sure Lann got clothing from Elle before we left too, if you want to fill in missing things. Although admittedly that doesn't matter nearly as much right now.
>>
>>41503916
>That depends on the property's of the webbing.
If it were so hard that it would keep the spear from bending, which is unlikely, then it would be so brittle it would break with a sufficiently strong hit and the thing would still bend.

And thats assuming we even go through the effort of weaving a net this dense inside the spear, which even with metalbending is a pretty big effort compared to just making a better spear.
>>
>>41503871
I think that one was answered a long time ago. We can alloy the rivermetal with other metals, but then it loses its supernatural qualities, so there's not much point.
>>
>>41503883
Better, we could put a hook with a thread attached to it at the tip of our spear and have a line attached to anything we stab with it
>>
>>41503942
>go through the effort of weaving a net this dense inside the spear
Besides having a hollow blade generally not being a great idea.
>>

>>
>>41504007
>if we have such control over our chitin
We don't have much control over our chitin. We only have a ability that lets us grow a super-chitin armour.

Though its not impossible there is something to let us grow chitin weapons too.
>>
>>41504016
That is already there for a long time, since we left the forest actually.

>she has set out on a new adventure with Dad

>>41504024
The question is, can we grow spiked armor? If we can grow spiked armor we can fight dwarvish beserker style, which basically involves throwing yourself bodily at the enemy and moving around a lot with the intent of leaving your enemy as little more than a smear on your armor.
>>
>>41503942
Hence the hexagram arrangement, since that is one of if not the best load bearing shape.

>>41503976
I wonder if imbedding would work.

Instead of alloying, put the river metal in Tiny strips/rods in the metal of the blade head. The natural difference in wear and tear property of the two metals should make it serrated with use. Allowing the effects of both metal types to affect the opponent at a reduced efficiency than the pure.
>>
REQM, didn't Dad already modify and return Jin's magic Amulet? the Pastebin still has it listed as 'Not hers just yet'...
>>
>>41504059
>Hence the hexagram arrangement, since that is one of if not the best load bearing shape
Higher load bearing ability doesn't actually help here. It would help against the spear breaking a lot, but not against the spear bending.
>>
>>41504072
Hmm. But in the case of it bending, wouldn't we just reshape it again anyway?
Since our power seems to be ask the material to take on a certain form, its not a very concentration consuming ability.
>>
>>41504072
>but not against the spear bending
I guess self-correction here, it would certainly prevent from bending beyond a certain extent, but it would still bend enough to be inconvenient in a fight, especially since we would need to reforge the webbing too.
>>
>>41503976
If so then that just means we need to increase our smithy skills even higher so the God of the Forge will go "Fine! Do what you want!"
>>
>>41504094
>wouldn't we just reshape it again anyway?
After the fight certainly, but the original anon had suggested making something new that doesn't bend at all, well or at least not more so than a spear should.
And in a fight were it really matters using our ability to reshape the spear can definitly matter.

Otherwise we could just throw away the spear and use our spear-like legs.
>>
oh god it's early and I just woke up. what are we talking about.
Weapon design? Jeez, that's too much for me this early on.

Have we ever eaten a cake?
>>
>>41504132
It sounds like we really need to trade some of our silk or silk goods for a suitable weapon core metal, like mithral or adamantine or some such.
>>
>>41504144
>Have we ever eaten a cake?
Lyra probably has in her human life. But our companions most likely haven't, given how hard one is to make with the settings tech level.

Another thing for the list.
>>
>>41504158
Its probably what we are going to have to do.

Either that or we trade our service/silk against someone showing us a good place to search for deposits, since getting the metal out of the earth would be trivially easy for Lyra.
>>
>>41504161
Making cakes is easy anon. The only tech you need is an oven and to be able to make butter.

Access to suger as well, but thats more trade links than tech.
>>
>>41504174
>Making cakes is easy anon.
Yes, but transporting the various ingredients across days of travel distance, let alone a entire cake, is pretty damn hard and expensive with their technology, meaning lack of preservation and fast travel technology.
>>
>>41504094
>in the case of it bending, wouldn't we just reshape it again anyway?

That's what we've currently been doing, but the problem is, we've just gained a MONSTROUS strength boost. We could very easily twist the thing into a slinky now, or just snap off half of it. Not a quick fix that we could multi-task while in the middle of serious combat.

Just repairing our weapon each time isn't enough. We need a weapon that won't fail in the first place.
>>
A thought occurs: we should really send mom the occasional letter while on our journey. You know, just to let her know we are okay and keep in touch a little. Perhaps downplay or skip on telling her the things that would just worry her more. Including info on our evolution would possibly cause rage, so that's a no-no.

Doesn't the adventurer's guild have a system for mail? Or heck, Jin is so fast now she could probably go home and back inside a day easy.
>>
>>41504198
We would need to find a wizard to enchant said letters to make their way to her, or we would have no chance.

Plus the confusion of getting winged letters flying at her every month or so would make me smile.
>>
>>41504198
yeah, the guild does.

what worries me is her not recieving them, as she is busy exploring ancient forest ruins.

You take a breath and blow it back out, relaxing ever so slightly before you try to calm your friend down.

"Nin?"
"My Lady!"
"I am not a Queen, Nin."
"I know. But it won't catch on if nobody does it, right?"
"I rather like being called Lyra, yes?"

She flops onto your shoulder, her chin across your collarbone, resting her head against your neck.
You try to resist twitching or giggling as her antennae brush against your ears, one hand clenching reflexively.

"I just want... I don't know. Can I see your crown?"
"Maybe later. Where other people can't."

She prods at your cheek with one delicate finger, her other arm wrapped around you like a hug.
"They'll look at you like that anyway, you know?"
"They'll- Wha?"
"You don't even notice, do you?"
"I notice lots of things, yes. I have six eyes."

She giggles next to you, her hand moving from your cheek to her other arm, completing the hug.
"Oh? Did you notice that everyone follows you?"
"People don't..."
"They listen to you, don't they? And ask for your opinion. And if you're doing something, they follow along."

You fall quiet, and try very hard to remember the last time you followed someone else. Someone that wasn't your mother.

"Ah! I follow Jin. And Sheskza, yes? When we are hunting."
"You order Jin and Sheszka to find you things to hunt."
"That- That is something different."

You weren't really planning on losing this argument.

"Anyway-"
"Anyway?"
"You still haven't told us what kind of Arachne you are."
"Um."

Her grin reaches her ears.
"Lyyyyyyra-"
"I think that is something private, yes."

She grabs your ears.

"Ah- cheater! This is cheating!"
"Tell me!"
"Never!"
"Yes!"

"Fine! Fine!"
"I won't give- Oh." Her defiance dies down and she settles behind you again, though she hasn't let go of your ears yet.
"But."
"But?"

"No calling me Queen, yes."
"Nnnng. I won't call you Queen in front of other people. But lady is till fair game!"
"No your majesty either."
"Fine."

"I am a Tyrant Arachne, yes."

She humms softly to herself as she processes that, muttering under her breath.

"What?"
"Well, it is good. But not good? People won't want to follow a Tyrant. They will, but they won't want to."
"I'm not going to force anyone to do anything, yes."
She pats your hair, a soft laugh joining the breeze.

"I know that. Well, I'll think of something. You don't need to worry at all!"

And just like that, you're worrying again.

I wonder if we can get a see through veil for our spider half when we do dress's and such.
>>
>>41505407
>Its still a good idea to keep our old armor.
Not really, we got a better armour we can conjure on command, putting the old one over the new one is kinda counterproductive and limits movability.

There is no reason to keep the old one except to forge it into something for someone else.

>There is no reason to keep the old one except to forge it into something for someone else.
well armor can still be enchanted to make it more useful, natural armor not so much. Could use old armor to experiment on if we find ourselves some free time and someone to teach us how to enchant things.

>>41505489
>natural armor not so much
Its already natrually magic, it would need to be proven a hypothetical enchantment could make the other one better.
>>
>>41505489
You need both Internal and External Mana Control for enchanting.

Can we possibly alter existing enchantments, or is it a more RIP AND TEAR sort of thing? I'm not sure of Lyra's control and limits there.

>>
There's something up ahead, which you suppose means you have work to do.

But for now, there's at least two lazy people on you in dire ned of a workout.
So-

You'll just combine it, then.

Nin only offers you a weird look when you drop her next to you as the wagons slow to a crawl.
And her expression gets more confused as you rummage beneath your skull, finally emerging with a tight coil of snoozing snake.

Thankfully, it only takes a few seconds of effort to get the reptile up and running.

Her jaw stretches impressively wide as she yawns, fangs shimmering in the noon sun.
"Ahhhhhh- Lyra? Y'loo- You look bigger."
"I got bigger, yes?"
"Eh- You did? What?"
"Here."

You loop the snake over Nin's arm, much to both girls' growing confusion.
"Wha?"
"Lyra?"

"You both need exercise, yes."
Nin just blinks, but Ezzy is already making a 'here we go again' face.
"And with that in mind, I have a contest!"

"A... contest?"
"Yes."
"Why?" Nin inquires.

"Because I thought it would be fun, yes? Whoever wins gets a prize."
They both shrug.
You scowl.

"Fine then, yes. Whoever loses gets punished."
Oh, now they're paying attention.

"Nin, You have to get Ezzy off of you- Ezzy, you have to stay on, yes. No biting, no dust, now powers. Go!"

Nin immediately grabs for the snake- But she's already gone, shooting up her arm even as the moth dances around, hands grasping at air.
Despite the undoubtedly amusing show they'll be putting on, you head for the caravan's front.
>>
Its almost like people are ignoring the fact another layer of Armor is still, at the end of it, Armor. For a very minor movement penalty, which we have trained around, we get two sturdy layers, instead of sole reliance on one.

>>41505552

Kenzington is front and centre, and there appears to be a sizeable amount of gold changing hands- There's a simple frame, a pair of booths- Ah.
A toll?

The caravan's head spots you and waves you off with a laugh.
"We are getting close now, yeah? A day or two from the city."
You nod happily.

The guard glances from his hellish little hut, and the blood immediately drains from his face- He starts trying to say something, but he can't seem to force the words out.

Kenzington taps him on the head a few times before he faces him again, and shakes his head.
"She's a guard'n an adventurer, lad. Don't think about it too hard."

You frown and roll your eyes, heading back to your post. You aren't that scary. You don't eat people or anything.
"Haaaah haaaah- Gerroff!"
"Never sssssurrender!"

Well, the show should be worthwhile, anyway.

We are not actually a metal spider, we only got a little bit of metal in the tips of our legs/finger.

You hold position, as hard as it is.
It shouldn't be much longer now till you're relieved, thank gods.

And everyone on this side of the caravan gets to enjoy the show.

Nin is running back and forth, sometimes hopping into the air for a few flutters of her wings, panting and wheezing.
All the running probably isn't helping detach Ezzy, either.

The snake for her part, is competing properly- clinging to limbs rather than trying to hide under clothing, though that'd be funny in its on way.
As it is, watching Nin roll around on the ground wrestling with her own ankle is hilarious.

The caravan is under way by the time a winner is declared- The moth raising the limp body of her scaly victim overhead, her own arms trembling under the minute weight of your friend.

Both of them are boneless heaps when they reach you, simply lying across you wherever they can find room and concentrating on breathing or guzzling water from your shield.

Nin throws herself across the space behind you, lying their with her arms and legs trailing after she hands over the snake- You retract a bit of armour from your throat, leaving enough room to wrap the exhausted competitor around your neck.

Punishment- and reward, you suppose- can come later. When they're conscious enough to appreciate them. Maybe you can let Nin ask for something appropriate. Or pat her head.
Though who that's a reward for might be up in the air.

As for Ezzy, maybe more training? She'll probably do it all on her own after losing to Nin, anyway.

You nod briefly to yourself, satisfied with your decision.

Yeah, Arachne have to live spread out in small families or alone to prevent over-hunting. It's an issue.

But I imagine a world where Monsters are a thing, evolution/the Gods/whatever would have done something to keep the balance.

Hell, we know normal animals can evolve into monster animals. The rabbits, bears, wolves, crabs and other things we encountered prove that. REQM even said Dire-Chicken are a thing. Them evolving into more powerful forms probably has greater effects than just making them stronger. Wouldn't be surprised if it did things to their reproduction rate or growth rate of their young.

If I remember the map right, the desert stretches to the coast and has a huger coastline, so that seems very plausible either way.

I'm pretty sure that REQm had said the continent has a Underdark that basically extends beneath the entire continent, not too sure about it being likely to have enough entrances in a desert, but in the few places it might and would be another contribution.

O- oh, God of Rule. What- What if we find a region that really is that fucked up. The people running the City States are idiots, selfish dicks, or both.

They constantly war against each other over the stupidest of reasons. Destroy the lives of countless people as collateral damage with no regard.

I mean, Lyra is a nice person. She couldn't just leave things like that. She couldn't just turn her back on the situation without trying to fix things.

And Nin would be the first to point out the obvious solution. If the people in charge are the problem, then someone else will need to take over.

A Benevolent Tyrant will need to seize power and enforce peace and order......

I've been thinking of something on that vein. Except we keep encountering 'savage' intelligent monsters that we just keep beating and kinda ruling. Eventually we're the tyrant of a whole bunch of kobolds, ratkin, lizards, pest-like or orclike monsters. weird end, but we'd keep them in check.

Considering it took 100 threads just to get past the prologue and start the actual adventure, a change in format every now and again could be good.

It would keep things from getting stale. Maybe another hundred threads from now, we'll transition into an Adventure/Civ builder Quest while we establish order over a collection of City States or whatever, then, 50 - 100 threads after that we can hand off control to the people then get back on the road.

Guess we'll see what direction REQM wants to take things/what people vote for when the time comes.

>50 - 100 threads after that we can hand off control to the people then get back on the road
Thats what I meant with getting "bogged down", if its just a temporary change, that could be interesting. But it could also easily lead to the quest getting even more glacial in pacing, which would be bad.

Hey Lamb! Wizardy Lizards when?

You switch sides, moving through the line of wagons and terrifying horses.
Cake should be on the other side somewhere.

Well, you'd also like to check on your yeti-wolf.

So you aim yourself for the healer's wagon, and keep an eye out for the halfling.
Or six.

It doesn't take much for you to run into her, making her way to the adventurers' wagon.

You decide to skip over the 'awkward embarrassment' stage, and go right for the apology bit.

"Cake!"
"Eh- Ah!"
"Hello, yes."
"Hi."

You take a breath, and launch into your apology.
And she does the same.

"Sorry, I was just-" "I didn't really mean to say-" "And with the crown, yes-" "I'm just kinda scared of spiders, sorry."
"What?"
"Huh?"

You square off, standing quietly and waiting for the other to start again. You open your mouth, and so does she.
You shut yours and wait, and so does she.

"You first." "Go ahead."
"Be my guest?"
"No, no, I was the one who-"

"Should we just agree that we are both idiots, yes?"
"Probably. Kenzington already said it."
"Mhm."

"Uh- I do wanna say, though- I know you wouldn't eat me, alright? I just get weirded out by spiders."
"That is fine, yes."
"It's all the clicking and the eyes and poison. I had nightmares of being tied up and eaten."
"It's fine. Everyone is afraid of something. I am afraid of trains, yes? I had nightmares as a child."

"Trains?"

"It- It is nothing. I am going to go see Sheszka, yes. I am glad we had the chance to talk."
"Me too. I, uh. I promise not to scream again if you grab."

You nod and she heads off sheepishly, while you make a beeline for the appropriate wagon.
Thinking about it, you're very glad you didn't have arachnophobia in your past life.
That would have made growing up very strange, you think.

The wagon is quiet as usual- The lady manning it is a bit quick to punish people making noise, so even the adventurers are careful around it.
You wave to her before you poke your head through the back.

Sheszka is the same as you left her- sleeping gently, her arm folded across her chest in a sling, sticks holding it straight.
You're sure that broken or not, shed be able to snap the sticks like, well, twigs, but it's good to see her resting properly and healing.
And hopefully Nin's treatment speeds it up further.

You smile and reach back to pat the moth's head, and she murmurs gently, half-conscious after her workout.

It takes a bit of hunting to find an adventurer not unconcious or working, but eventually you manage to drag Eiryn away from reading prayer books.

"-I haven't memorized that one yet, though."
"I know you are a paladin, but this seems unnecessary, yes."
"Well, I suppose it's more a way to pass the time."
"Then, can I bother you about the city?"

He taps his lips twice with the thin book, looking thoughtful.

"I suppose- Though I can't imagine there's much to say about a city."
"I lived in a tree, yes."
"Oh. OH!"
"So whatever you can remember, it would help."

He grins and snaps a salute, though his hand is still full of the little prayer book.

"Well, lets see- To start, the guild is along the main street- Or rather, the guild takes up the main street."
"That many people live there?"
"There's no shortage of jobs in the city. And if you can't find work outside, you could always try your hand at the dungeons."
"Dungeons?"

He nods.
"There's two in the city proper- One near the plains, and one that heads under the river. Ah, don't try and visit the river one without some way to breathe underwater. After three floors, it's all underwater."
"I see? But if there are so many adventurers, then wouldn't the dungeons be empty, yes?"
"Ah? Oh, dungeons are living things, Lyra."
"What."

"They're... well, they're strange, I suppose. They shift and change, monsters come and go- Some are sentient, in a way, but they're all a prt of the dungeon, if that makes sense?"
"I- But- Where do they come from? What are they, yes?"
"People think that either archmages in the past, or maybe even gods made them- I've heard if you can clear the dungeons built in a god's name, you can even attain blessings. Not to mention all sorts of artifacts, or magical materials."
"Built in a god's name?"
>>
>>41509368

"Dungeons have names- Ones that we didn't give them, that is. Like, 'The molten throne of the fire god'."
"I think that would be an unpleasant place to visit, yes."
"It's not particularly friendly, no."
"Why are the dungeons in the city, though?"

"Well, they built the city atop them, of course."
"They built the city atop a hive of monsters."
"Dungeon monsters only- Er, usually only- defend the dungeon. They don't come out."
"I see. But sometimes they do?"

He shrugs.
"I think it's happened once or twice. The guild maintains a watch now."

Well, that's something to think about, anyway.

Nah, not even remotly. It costs a masive amount of money to feed Lyra and her friends.

>All day
Have you read this quest? Hunting takes a hour or so at worst for Lyra. She just needs to find something big enough which is trivial for her.
It would take her less time to find a animal to eat than it would take to find a big enough Inn and wait for them to prepare all that meat.

Since its probably something completly new, there is unlikely to be a price for it, and we would first need to create the market for it by finding people and convincing them to buy it in the small quantities Lyra produces.

>That shit is mithrill tier at least
We have no idea, it might just be regular steel tier.

Eh, not really? Lyra doesn't really need money for her/our plans, we aren't going Kingdom-route this early in the game, and if you are talking about materials for our Forge-touching then we just go work at a Blacksmith's and purify ore and metal for them.
>>

Regular silk is already kelvar/steel tier. Maybe even stronger.
>>
>>41510006
>Spider silk that people go insane for
>costs time to find a buyer.
5 seconds at a Tailor's shop. we literally just have to say, "I am a giant spider, I have spider silk, I'll cut you a deal." even with the shipments from Elle, we could make money. or take a job thats high paying and get it done in a day.
>>
>>41510109
>Lyra doesn't really need money for her/our plans
We want quality metals and magic stones for our forging, we want spices, we want equipment and supplies for dungeon runs.
Yes, we need a whole bunch of money for our plans.
>>
>>41510067
We could set up webs like a spider. Cities still have animals. We'll just have to remember to check the webs every day or two and cut down hobos.
>>
>>41510077
Maybe making light super durable armor? That sure sells well
>>
>>41510131
A run of the mill tailor can't afford buying spider silk because he doesn't have customers that have the money to buy spidersilk products, basic economics.
>>
>>41510136

Most of that stuff is pointless because Lyra is by virtue of being a giant spider that controls earth, fire, and metal very self sufficient.

Unless for some reason she wants to wait around for months while very specific supplies are shipped in I guess, all the best elemental stones are found in dungeons anyway.
>>
>>41510150
>Maybe making light super durable armor?
Probably a lot more economically feasible than selling the silk itself.
We still need to figure out just how much metal-silk Lyra can produce though, because last time it was just one strand in the regular silk.
>>
>>41510077
>>41510150
Especially when factoring in the fact that the city we're walking into was built on top of not one, but TWO dungeons, meaning there's plenty of adventurers looking for quality gear.

Yes, the sort of people who can sell it and need it.
And those people now HAVE a supply of spider silk. That doesn't mean everyone would buy it, it means there are people who would buy it and they would go to extensive lengths to do so.

But Lyra can't produce that much silk, and while it might fetch a nice price that doesn't mean its a endless money generator you imagine it to be. There are other expensive and rare things to buy.
>>

Once she levels up her earth and metal sensing, yeah, it kinda would be.

But we'd be in entirely different markets! Elle's all about fashion and fancy stuffs and we have the adventurers and explorers covered.
>>
>>41510198
To be fair, good metal is fairly easy for Lyra to acquire, we just haven't actually tried asking the earth to send some good metal to the surface. The spices we do need to purchase however.
>>
>>41510168
We have just one elemental stone and it's very powerfull. If we can have one for everyone in the party and make powerfull weapons with them they are going to be safer. And probably we can buy really good elemental stones in the city.

Let me teach you about Opportunity Cost, my friend
>>

No, because ore deposits are still a hell lot more rare than wild animals.
There isn't even a guarantee that sort of ore deposit is anywhere near where we will be.

>>41510249
>To be fair, good metal is fairly easy for Lyra to acquire
Depends on how common untapped ore deposits are.
>>
>>41510254

Or we could just find them as loot or as integral parts of powerful monsters.
>>
>>41510136
>Yes, we need a whole bunch of money for our plans.

Again, I repeat, we literally shit money. Money is a non-issue for us.

Our silk is worth a /fortune/. I'm just talking about our normal silk. Not even factoring in how much our new metal-silk might be worth.

Remember the lady from the trading post. She told us a story about a Taylors shop that got a little Arachne Silk once. Once. Every Noble in the city was clamouring for some. There was almost a riot. The taylors were cutting up a silk tunic to make it into smaller pieces so they could sell it to more people.
>>
>>41510264
>There isn't even a guarantee that sort of ore deposit is anywhere near where we will be.

Then it's kinda pointless because Lyra isn't going to wait around for it to be shipped to her location, if it's not located nearby then local people wouldn't have it any meaningful supply.
>>
>>41510264
This is a magical fantasy world with living dungeons and actually rpg mechanics. I doubt ore deposits are anywhere near as rare as they are in real life.
>>
>>41510274
>Again, I repeat, we literally shit money.
No, Lyra can produce a very limited amount of a commodity, one which due to being expensive has a very limited market, which is about the be flooded by exactly that commodity since we arrive with a caravan carrying the stuff.

You have this strange delusion it literally produces all the money effortlessly, but thats not how economics work. And most importantly, since we have no idea how expensive the stuff we want to buy is, it could easily be more expensive.
>>
>>41510233
A supply does not mean a large supply, knowing the shop lady, she is almost guaranteed to keep supply low enough to maintain the value.
>>
There's also the dungeon angle. Would the monsters there be more friendly to a giant spider? Or are they always chaotic evil? Trading opportunities, or at least tips?
>>

>It's the obsessively pro-hunting fags.
Nah its the obsessively pro-waste money in inns fags. They have this weird obsession with needing to buy food in inns despite all the problems it brings when we could acquire it ourselves.
If it were pro-hunting then they wouldn't have said it would only make sense to buy food we can't get on our own.

>>41510536
>Didn't take her a lot of time then
She explcitily told us how much stress it was. And i took months between us showing up wioth the first silk and until the caravan buying it arrived.
>>
>>41510558
No, that's how this one started, but.... yeah, now I think it's just snowballed into aspies.
>>
Wait. Are people seriously trying to argue that it would be hard for Lyra to sell silk? I mean, I really hope we don't have to sell any because that will be at least 2 threads of boring as fuck tedium, but there's zero chance of it not making her easy money.
>>
>>41510537

Nah, he would probably go with the -actual- Giant Fucking Spider making SPIDERSILK that is right in front of him.

Hell, worst case scenario is that he calls his tailor, he shows up, looks at our silk and notices the metal and how super durable it is, and buys MORE of it so he can make his entire wardrobe armored.
>>

>>41510558
Hey man, don't look at me. I'm all for staying in an inn. I just was enjoying the rampant economics blunders
>>
You can't help but stare at the book he's waving around. He hasn't memorized this one, he said.
So he's memorized others?
How many prayers are there?

Wait, who does he even pray to?

"Um. Excuse me a moment, yes?"
"Sure. Was there something specific?"
"Lots and lots of things. But first- Um. Are there temples in the city? Who do you pray too? Why do you need so many prayers?"

He leans back a moment, sorting your questions, and he nods.
"Well- I, personally, worship the Great God of Light. As for the prayers- That's a, well. It's a hobby, mostly."
"Paladin things?"
"Er. No, the other members of the order thought it was a bit strange. War chanting and the like are normal, but hymns are a bit..."
"Ah. Do you like singing?"

He blushes.

Sometimes, you think he looks more like a woman than half the actual girls in the caravan.
"That is, er-"
"It is fine, yes? Everyone has a hobby."
"Mhm! Of course!"
"Oh- And 'Great' god?"

"It's the order's way of showing preference to our benefactor."
"I see. Do you receive their blessing?"
"The head has, but the rest of us... We haven't distinguished ourselves, I suppose. Oh, and there's an entire district devoted to temples in the city."

You nod, smiling.
"That is good, yes. I thought I should go and say thanks to the gods who have blessed me."
He opens his mouth to speak, turning away for a moment and scratching his head awkwardly.
You raise an eyebrow.
"Yes?"

"Um. People get a bit... odd. Over blessings. Especially on monsters."
"Yes?"
"It would be better for you to keep it secret."
"I will try, yes."

He nods, clearly relieved.
Just how weird do people act?

"Then, what else is there?"
You fold your arms.
"Well- I'd like to know the names of the dungeons, please. And the locations of the inns with the best food. And the inns with the most food, for when the first ones run out."

"Why would they run- No, nevermind. I know the answer."
You smile.
He snickers lightly, shaking his head.
>>
>>41510582
>Are people seriously trying to argue that it would be hard for Lyra to sell silk?
Considering it was difficult for a trained and experienced merchant to arrange it, yes.
>>
>>41510574
I think it depends, we're all thinking of monster-people. what if there are actual monster monsters, like the gnomes? (I don't recall hose being sapient, but I could be wrong.)
>>
>>41510373
I don't know why you say we apparently produce less of it. The first and only time we made it was a fluke which taught us we could do it, and we have yet to actually test our limits as to how much metallic silk we can make.
>>
>>41510596
"The dungeons are, if I remember correctly- 'The River Queen's Lure' and 'The Plains of Hate and Gold'."
"... A lot of people go to the second, don't they?"
"Mhm."
"And do they find gold?"
"Mostly hate."

You both laugh.

"Ah! And the city, is it big enough for me?"
He waves your worry off with another laugh.
"It was built as a trade city- For everyone interested in trading. I can't promise every building will fit you, but anything busy enough should be built to hold every size of body. So long as you don't turn into a giant or anything."
"No promises, yes."

Your conversation falls into a lull, only the soft snoring behind you making any noise.

You've got another question, but...
Well. No way around it.

"Have you heard of the God of Rule?"
"Rule? That's not a common one. I think an ancient king had a statue, or something?"
"A blessing?"
"I don't think you understand how uncommon blessings are. You have to put your life on the line for your beliefs- Doing something with the intention of getting a blessing is a guarantee it won't happen, you know? Something like a blessing from the God of Rule would..."

His voice trails of, his mouth hanging half open as he stares at you.

"Yes?"
>>
>>41510599

A trained and experienced merchant working in a town that was mostly self-sufficient having difficulty finding connections, what a shocker.
>>
>>41510584
>Nah, he would probably go with the -actual- Giant Fucking Spider making SPIDERSILK that is right in front of him.
Yeah, he would go with the scary stranger that he has no reason to trust. Makes sense.

>>

He points at you, trying to work his jaw into some semblance of framing words.
"Y-you- You got one, didn't you?"
"Wh- What? No. No no no. Never."
"Don't lie about that!"
"Just a little one? Maybe?"
"There's no such thing as a little- mmph!"

Your hand closes over his mouth before he can finish the accusation, your finger at your lips as yo glance at the sleeping moth.
"Sssh. Ssssssh! Don't yell about this, yes!"

He stares as you pull your hand away.
You're not quite comfortable with the level of awe in his eyes.

"Are you- Is Nin right? Are you the Queen?"
You shake your head side to side, hair flying.
"I am a regular arachne, yes?"

"I am utterly certain you aren't in any way regular."
"Well, I am not a Queen, yes!"
"Yet."

Oh, gods.

I guess the whole life threating thing is something we do fairly often.

The issue wasn't eating in a Inn once or twice, thats cool, there is a lot of stuff Lyra can try eating that she just can't acquire herself.

It was about someone saying we should literally only eat in Inns for our entire stay in the city.

don't forget to have Lyra get feed up with people calling her queen all the time and accidentally letting her crown shoot out for anyone look to see.

Crushing them and then taking control, the crushing beforehand was important.

>>
>>41510912

Arachne Queen, yes, that one.

Basically we became a Red Mage, but it relied on having Forest species around us, and the powers were only temporary.

Very strong in the Forest, not so much outside it.

I'm glad we didn't qualify and take it, Lyra forges her own path to the future! Spiders don't get stuck in webs! Certainly not Cobwebs!

>>
>>41510912
long story short
Sovereign would have been like Tyrant but we'd give buffs to our party members and not ourselves

Tyrant gave us the kick ass armor

and the forest bows would have been pretty much what the last spider queen had when the forest still had a city. Better earth magic and all the races of the woods (with a few exceptions like the lizards) would be drawn to us. So like sovereign but more specialized
>>
>>41510796
Is Lyra the only Tier 4 (Forest) Arachne in the world right now? I remember you said there were only a few other Tier 3 ones in the forest.
>>
>>41510971

and we would have been using the abilities our companions already use.

"I- I am not a Queen, yes!"
He looks on doubtfully.
"I am not!"

You glance around again.
"And- and-"
You drop your voice further, whispering across the inches that separate you.
"Do- Do not tell anyone about the rule thing. Please."

His nods, looking serious again.

"I swear. You're a friend Lyra- Something like that would spell trouble no matter what."
You groan.
"Don't worry, I'll keep it a secret. By my sword and the light."
"Thank you, yes."

You spare a moment to calm down, your heartbeat returning to something normal.
You might've gotten something troublesome.

You play with your hair nervously as you wrack your brain, trying to find a new topic to work with.
"Um. Can you tell me about the rest of the city? It is for trade, yes? Does that mean that few people live there? Just merchants passing through?"

He looks surprised a moment, and then he laughs, an honest and clear sound.
"No, no- Gods no. It's the centre of the continent, Lyra. They keep having to add new layers to the city, each a new wall, then buildings within. Every farm for leagues provides its food, its soldiers and students and workers."

"So it is large?"
"Huge. It even has a navy."
"On a river?"
"Well, river is a bit of a weak word, honestly."

You raise an eyebrow.

"It's- well, it's wide. The bridge across it is considered a wonder. People say it took an army of mages to put down its supports, and a city's worth of stone to finish."
"So it is a port city, of sorts?"
"Every kind- Trade flows in and out."

You can't help but be curious about the things you'll find in the city, and even your worry about your blessings can't dampen that.
