We should choose sides, I suggest get in contact with the green skin beast for mercenary work.
Start training more gnolls and better our tactics.

Yay, finally a civ thread today.

Hopefully we can use the (assumed) war between the (orcs?) and the humans to our advantage.

Was it d20 or d100?
How many actions can we take per turn, if only one will it increase when our population increases?
Can we dedicate a turn to increase birthrate?
>>
>>41526104
2D20's one for each action.

Birthrate will increase with population and morale. Though you could do a magic roll for some sort of fertilty ritual.
>>
Rolled 1, 3 = 4 (2d20)

>>41525023
I say we take the path of blood to the humans soon. Starting off though, we should get more Riding Aurochs. Search for em, tame em, breed em, whatever we gotta do.

Second thing is another raid. Continue acting as bandits, stopping trade to and from the city near us.
>>
Rolled 15, 9 = 24 (2d20)

>>41525023
I say we send out a small party (2-3 Gnolls) with a human slave accompanying them to go and see what is going on between the green skins and humans. The slave can serve as a translator.

Also, build some a pen outside the cave for the horned aurochs as wel as some fortications in case the war comes our way.
>>
Rolled 17, 15 = 32 (2d20)

>>41525649
Rerolling correct with correct die
1. Scout out green beast
2. Train tactics and gnoll
>>
>>41526291
we already sacrifised 4 human warriors last turn. those 3 remaining are workers and will be more useful to us alive.

>>41526294
does the human know gnollish? does it know orkish? i doubt it.

>>41526324
we have currently not even a clue where the greenskins are located.
and we already have scouts out on (2) mission(s) and they should return in ~2 turns
>>
>>41526373
I didn't mean path of blood for the human slaves we have, I meant path of blood for the human slaves we don't have. Those that aren't slaves.
>>
>>41526373
>does the human know gnollish?
I'm sure it has a basic knowledge of it so it can understand orders from its Gnoll masters. And it can learn more while the party is out on the trip.
>>
>>41526387
you mean raid them? yes but let's wait for our scouts to return with info first.

meanwhile we should train our troops like others suggested.

>>41526430
certainly, but i doubt he knows orkish.
>>
>>41526451
He doesn't need to know orcish since we are talking to the orcs with him.
>>
>>41526373
Well question the skaven and human slaves if they know anything or know someone that does.
Anons how does mercenary work for yall since we're small in number
>>
>>41526487
then why bring him with us?

>>41526489
imo we should stay neutral for now , maybe we can loot the dead after their battle.
>>
>>41526489
We need to continue scouting so that we may hopefully find other beast races like the minotaurs, kobolds, and ursines that we can incorporate into our pack. We need to unite the beast races if we are to survive in this harsh world.
>>
>>41526537
We are going to talk with the humans, not the orcs. Having a human with us may or may not ease negotiations. It will also make travel easier since the slave may know their way around better than us when we get close to their home.
>>
>>41526603
nah fuck the humans. plus he might just tell them
>"this gnoll raided our caravan, sacrificed and enslaved the survivors".
they'll take us prisoner, torture us for our location and hunt us down.
>>
Remember last threads plan
Move to caves
Create slightly more favoured Skaven class

Also I think our resurrected guy should become known as the First Risen
>>
>>41526661

>>41525023

We really need to be using Gruk Han - our leader is just getting fat and bored.

Also I suggest one of the following actions:

1. Research one of the mysterious tomes that we found.
2. Test out the exceptional axe that Gruk Han has. It sounded like it might be something more than just a well crafted axe.
>>
Rolled 6, 4 = 10 (2d20)

Negotiating for information or using some kind of a translator is really not our way.

Remember that instead we can kill first and ask questions later - literally.

Catch an enemy that seems like he knows a lot and sacrifice him for that information.

Learning languages, technologies, lay of the land, and war plans - all possible.

Gruk Han after seeing the usefulness of these horned beasts not only for combat but for food commissions the slaves to build a large pen.
>Auroch calves will be born next turn

Hearing of the shamans vision, the gnolls begin training with new purpose, Some have even taken to using a weapon in each hand, striking so rapidly that even gnoll eyes have trouble tracking the movement of the blades.

In the midst of the sparring Garor and Gruk Han lock eyes with each other... Blades are dropped to the ground. This dispute will be settled in the old way with tooth and claw.

So we are the only gnolls that have traveled this far north?

I guess it does give us the advantage of surprise and nobody knowing what the heck we are, on the other hand there are no other gnoll tribes that we could conquer and absorb so our growth is limited by the number of pups that we can raise.

I wonder if we could contact the old packs and encourage them to let more gnolls migrate here. Really sell the whole 'land of opportunity with tasty Aurochs' angle.
>>
>>41528594
I say we should still consider doing mercenary jobs, maybe for payment nstead of money it'll be tech and equipment.
>>
>>41528594
Yeah or something. We've already begun the process of integrating the skavens, but that won't be nearly enough. We need to find a way to grow much faster. We won't be able to do anything meaningful, even if we are big, strong gnolls blessed by a god.
>>
>>41528660
I also would like to Stat with mercenary work, preferably for someone already powerful and machine minded. (Ork like creatures maybe??)
>>
>>41528695
Always remember though, growth is exponential. I'd say keep it smaller for now while we get supplies, land, tools, things that can support a larger civilization. Then we can grow.

It's better to have a small civ with excess supplies than a large civ with few supplies.
>>
The two mighty gnolls circle each other, this is something both had been anticipating.

Gruk Han spares no time, he crashes into Garor with all of his strength The first risen latches on to the Pack Leaders hide as he falls to the ground tearing open a vicious wound.

The two gnolls struggle on the ground, fur and blood flying into the air. The battle moves again to the standing position. Garor strikes at Gruk's chest with his right claw. reflex now moves Gruk to action Grasping Garors arm and using his strength to lock it behind his back. Gruk moves his claw to garors throat signalling for his submission.

Garor takes a deep breath...
He remembers the void, and the moments leading up to it, and pure animal instinct takes over. The cracking of bones breaks the silence in the air, Garor turns slowly allowing the bones in his shoulder to break and letting him slip free of this hold.

Garor takes advantage of Gruk's surprise and strikes with his teeth pinning him to the ground. Gruk struggles for only now grasping his dire situation, finally he submits.

Garor stands and lets out a ferocious howl!
The pack howls with him.

>Garor Ratchaser the first risen is the pack leader
>>
>>41528748
Agreed. I'd rather be Spartans than indians
>>
>>41528660

Doing work, even if it is stuff that we like - such as fighting - is really a looser's game.

You know the saying that you don't have to pay dead mercenaries? Mercs get sent where the fighting is thickest, and every gnoll life is precious.
>>
>>41528695
Maybe we have to reconsider our reservation on an undead army

>>41528748

>anyone else feel we should be training some of our own with the shields to specifically be a defensive unit, so things like death goo don't happen again?

>>41528833
Wait, how it doing work a loosers game?

You know the saying "only a strong gnoll is a valuable gnoll"?
>>
>>41528800

AWOOOO!

>>41528856

Instead of looking at Mercenary work, we need to be Marauders.

We know that a big war is coming, that means rich spoils can be ours for the taking. And with the right spells to keep us under the radar, both sides will write off their losses by blaming it on their enemies.
>>
>>41529011
Indeed. Gnolls work for no one but themselves. We should take advantage of the war rather than let the war take advantage of us.
>>
>>41528800
Allow Garor to drink of his kills blood, then gather the rest for blood magic use at some point, pack leader blood is strong blood.

>>41529011

Have Draugh examine the tomes.
>>
>>41528994

Letting someone else dictate how much we are worth is what I am having a problem with.

We deserve as much as our strength allows us to take.

Let the humans and orcs waste their strength on killing each other, we will walk in and scavange their weapons of war and grow fat on their corpses.

And with Yeonghou's (sp?) blessing they won't even know whom to blame.
>>
Hopefully you guys don't mind if I join in the middle of the civ.

What if we try to locate and loot a small village somewhat far away from our nests, in order to bait some fighter to defend said village and gorilla warfare them down to acquire some loot and a little fighting slave force?
>>
We need a consensus on a plan of action here
I say:
>Train blood magic
>make scaven mine for us and teach us how to make weps
>get info on war
>train group tactics, not just solo combat skills
>>
Why don't we git gud at necromancy and start raising their own dead to fight for/along side us?
>>
>>41529137
Hm, we don't have to let them dictate us, we can negotiate , let them know our terms. I know there must be some races that will still be willing to hire us, we're ferocious gnolls!
>>
>>41529133
Sorry didn't catch that last little part, just got back and was speed reading the last quarter of the thread.
>>
>>41529137

>>
>>41528800
Is there still shaman trainees being trained? as I recall there should be 2.
>>
>>41529153

As far as slaves go, we should be very careful with enslaving those who could warn the orcs and humans about us.

Keeping human miners is probably ok, but the best slaves are races like skaven who are not trusted by either side in the war.
>>
>>41529221
I meant it as a sneaky kinda thing... Or an emergency plan or something. Heck it's just an idea
>>
>>41529181
>>41529193

I think we should study the tomes we have, then work on advancing blood or necro depending on what they hold within their pages.

Either way I agree with xcvsd's plan of advancement, maybe get a cabal going if any of the young show an aptitude for the arcane
>>
>>41529193
Blood magic to fuel our savage attacks
I'm thinking we cn use necromancy magic for reattaching limbs or healing of some sort, like a surgeon.
>>
>>41529181
Though most of this is needed, we already have some training on group tactics. Though it would be better to train more on them, I agree. Info on the war should be first priority.

When do our scouts come back?
>>
>>41529231
Yes they will be ready in 3 turns.
>>
>>41529270
We already have blood advanced some, so getting that stronger is a prority, also. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! he did save our current alpha.
>>
>>41529271
Or just keeping them alive till we can graft 'em back. Sounds like a good idea. I like my magic to be broad and not based on schools like necromancy or whatever. We should experiment a bit with our magic and start getting more and better equipment for the gnolls
>>
>>41529193

I think the First Risen is 'Alive' if perhaps tainted a bit by the experience, not 'Undead' in the strictest sense of the word. More like 'Ex-dead'

By the way I really like the idea of our elite gnoll warriors being Immortals.

+1 to researching magic, and ambushing a human who might know something about the war to 'drink' the knowledge out of him.

I think some geomancy magic might be a good idea - hide our raiding party's footsteps, smelt ores more easily, create hidden underground dens to spring ambushes out of, or just make holes in the ground with a sharp stone at the bottom to break legs of fleeing cavalry / slaves / wild aurochs.

op, could you explain more what you had in mind for necromancy since all of us seem a bit confused about it.

Necromancy encompasses a few things.

>Spirit Binding. Calling on the spirits of dead warriors to posses them and gaining their strengths

>Fleshcrafting - Creating things using dead flesh, healing wounds or even making creatures.

>Raising - Resurrection of the dead, zombies etcetera, it will also branch into anti-undead magic like turning.
>>
>>41529857
I think Spirit Binding would be something Gnolls would do

we can examine the tomes, maybe finding something useful to progress our magic.
then we convert one into a small temple to please our god
>>

i also prefer the cave.
>>
So.. we gonna do something?
>>
>>41529857

Are you writing stuff right now?

Did you get the concensus and rolls you needed?

I have this feeling that everyone is waiting for something to happen...

As far as useful magic spells and rituals I would want our tribe to have:

Blood frenzy potions to boost our warriors in battle.

Bone necklace spirit fetishes to enslave the souls of our enemies. Effects? Protection from ranged attacks / magic / scrying?

I also think we should have at least one Geomancy spell to justify having that school of magic.

Maybe have a way to 'wisper to the grasses and the earth' bidding them to tell no one of our passing.
Basically a spell to make us impossible to track.
>>
>>41529868
I dunno man. If a gnoll honors combat, they'd be the one's doing the fighting. Not being a vessel.
>>
Hey guys. Hope you don't mind if I join in on your game - I read the last two threads & this looks purdy damn sweet.

As far as what to do right now, I recommend we begin setting the Skaven slaves to mine in the caves for us (under the supervision of some Gnolls & the Scaven overseers of course) while Draugh & the shaman younglings read the tome.

As for adult Gnolls..... IDK, have scouts search for the green skinned things?
>>

if we are to act as marauders, then we need to develop hit and run tactics, prioritising mobility

We should focus on learning how to repair and customize equipment.

Most of our stuff will almost always be stolen, but we do need to learn how to use it well.

>>41531442
The ranged weapon I would love to have is a couple of Roman-style 'Scorpion' balistas mounted on the backs of Aurochs Bulls and made to reload from the bull's momentum.
>>
>>41531714
Honestly, I don't think we should go into necromancy because every civ seems to go that way. Plus, I don't know if it's best for us. As of right now we don't have bodies, our fighting style isn't imperial. We don't have legions of men to march unto our enemy. We have back tactics. Undead here would be more trouble than it's worth. It'd rot the food quicker, while not giving us enough power. We need speed, not men.

>>41531356
My question, is can we focus on a specific school to quicken the process? If we focus on blood magic only, would we develop it quicker?
>>
>>41531786
We wouldn't be using undead, we'd be using the spirits of past warriors.

>>41531814
While that's better, I vote to let the dead rest. It'd be disrespectful to both parties. Are we so weak that we need the power of our ancestors? Would we dishonor our ancestors by putting them into bodies weaker than they are?

I say nay. If a hero dies, do not dishonor him by bringing him back for matters in the realm that he has left.
>>
>>41531925

The scouts from the north return from their journey. They confirm the accounts of the human slaves, they've found many more trade routes that could be plundered, though these are far more well guarded than the last.

>Route to the lumber camp (Previously Raided)
>Route to the northern village (Not raided heavily guarded)
>Northeastern route (Moderately guarded)
>Western route (Crosses river, bridge is well guarded)
The scouts sent east have yet to return.

>>41531862

I am thinking about something the size of an Arbalest.

Swivel mounted on the yoke of the bull, with a single young gnoll or a skaven to aim it.

Obviously we would need to get lucky and kill a human or gnomish engineer whose blood we could steal the secrets from.

>>41532034
And taint our men with the spirits of cowards? It would bring shame to any creature possessed. No, let the dead rest.

The tome contained necromancy it just gave you progress towards the next spell if you choose to research it further. You're still researching blood magic.
>>
>>41532102
Alright. So it's more a side effect of us researching blood magic then.
>>
>>41531925

We are crafting magic items that trap the spirits of our dead enemies forcing them to serve us.

My idea was, bone amulets that protect against projectiles, and hostile magic.

Work on blood and illusion magic for fightan and sneakan. Ditch plague magic since that's for untermensch skaven. Ditch necromancy since almost every civ game goes down this path and it's nice to do something different (purely from an objective standpoint).

The First Risen and his gnolls stalk the caravan trail for days, finally the hunters find their quarry. The cart is covered at the top but you can see something moving inside of it there are 15 men guarding it. 5 With these "crossbows" that Draugh has warned us of.

>Plan of attack?
>>
>>41532977
Take out the crossbows first.
>>
>>41532824

This is just us applying what we learned from our first risen.

The dream is to have our elite gnoll warriors be 'immortal'.

Being able to shove their guts in, reattach the limbs, feed them some blood of our enemies, and have them good to go fight some more, goes a long way towards that dream.
>>
>>41532977
Take out the crossbows first and destroy them with our superior troops.

No need to rush. We can strike where we have the advantage.

If it looks like it will rain, wait.
Crossbows are useless when their strings get wet.

Also a night ambush can be good.
>>
>>41533012
>>41533046
The only problem is getting to the crossbow men without getting shot. Perhaps illusion spells? Mix that with >>41533053 .

Wait for a spot with good cover. Take out the crossbow men quickly while another group kills the horse pulling the carriage. Then, try and draw the troops out to fight the troops in the open. Try and take it them out one by one.
>>
>>41533072

I think it's because we are the ones dictating what type of terrain we engage the caravan in.
>>
>>41533120
all we have to do is strafe on the approach until one shot is fired, then charge
>>
I think we should stalk it and watch it for a bit.

There is tall grass on the sides of the road to hide in, right?

we wait until they are almost on top of us, spook the horses, and charge in.

Are these humans? On foot?
>>
>>41533180

Agreed.
Hide in the grass and let them pass by. Just to see: what is moving inside?
>>
>>41533130
we still need to know the terrain around the quarry to decide if it's better to attack there or on the caravan trail.

either way, if we do it on the caravan path, use illusion magic like already suggested to hide us. wait for the cart to be almost on top of us so they have less time to react/aim/shoot.
>>
>>41533191
The grass on the sides of the trail are thick enough to cover your approach. Yes they are on foot.

Anon could you please put In some form of name, it's easier to know who's saying what that way
>>

chainmail can actually be worse than nothing because if small broken rings gets pushed in and lost in the wound they will irritate the tissue and fester in there.

Granted, cloth outer and leather inner layers can help prevent that.

The hunters move through the grass, surrounding the trail on both sides. The wheels of the cart thump lazily down the road the clunky sound of metal marching masks the sound of their approach.

The men in the back are relaxed chatting about this or that unaware that they are being hunted. The sounds of their screams echoing through the plains signal that the hunt is on.

The men in the front quickly move to surround the cart, the bowmen fire but Garor and his scouts move too quickly and are slaughtered before they can reload.

The humans quickly surrender dropping their arms. The hunters uncover their cart to reveal the prize. Three green skinned men and four small bird men are found in the back chackled to the cart.

Not strictly true.
His 2 apprentices drink his blood to learn magic, no?

Yes, but not skills. I'm assuming it's something like that he's infusing them with magic, though with our blood magic we maybe can transfer experiences/emotes through blood. The best time to do it would be at mass sacrifice because blood god will be happy.

We will only know that After we sacrifice one of them.

What if Orcs view those who allowed themselves to be captured as traitors?

I think it is risk that we should be willing to take. I honestly don't think it is likely they would backstab as we've shown the orc captives our strength by defeating the human caravan and we can further prove our strength by helping the orc civilization against the humans.

I don't think we should invest too much into learning crossbows. We have naturally shit ranged combat and great melee. Maybe just figure out how they work and some strategies to avoid/deal with the crossbow.
I also think unless the tengu have something interesting to say we should just kill them since they are likely to fly away given the chance.

Might as well talk to the Tengu.

i rather sacrifice them instead of having to worry about them escaping (flying off). we cant track flying stuff but we can track runners, hence we'd have to chop off their wings if we keep them to be sure they cant just fly away.

We know you Tengu bear us no good will and we are aware of your silver tongues. But answer this, why/were you captured

I was very sure that there was nothing he could offer to change my mind, but...

What if the tengu could help us gather more gnolls from the South?

The main question is what is their relationship with the Orcs?

We want to deal with races like the skaven, that are distrusted by both sides of the war.
>>
>>41535317
possibly.

btw do these tengu even have wings? cant see shit on op's image as it has robes all over.
>>
>>41535218
These tengu do not appear to be able to fly, This particular tengu is wearing dark robes that are made of a fine material that is quite soft to the touch. He has long beak with a scar on the front and his eyes are an eerie white with no pupils.
>>
>>41535389
>"what are you able to offer that may make us, well, not enemies"
>>
>>41535389

No matter how we slice it, we will need to sacrifice one tengu in order to check if what the other one is saying is true.

What is a nice way to ask what his relationship with the other 2 tengu is, and how attached he is to them.
>>
>>41535483
"Of your companions, whom is your mother in law.

The sacrifices are prepared, a crude altar is built with a basin in the center the prisoners throats are cut one by one. The blood mixes in the center of the altar and solid red hand begins to pull itself out of the altar, a screech is heard that echoes through the plains.
The hand now forms the shape of a gnoll looming tall above the rest of the camp. The fires flare and a gutteral voice resounds through the cave. "The dark birds are no ally of the gnolls, I have tasted their sins and heard the howls of our kin they hold enslaved. From this night to eternum any gnoll who fails to slay a dark bird will be cursed in the eyes of Yeonghuu and will never taste again the gift of the blood. Slay them, Slay their children, Break their eggs upon the stone, let no dark bird ever again hold the fate of a gnoll. I grant you this gift to carry out your mission"
>New boon unlocked, Rage of Yeonghuu: Gnolls now enter a blood rage when mind altering magic is used upon them breaking them from it's bond. This boon can be shared with other gnolls by allowing them to taste the blood of one with the boon.

Draugh wastes no time slaying the tengu and drinking his blood. The other two shamans take in the blood of the orc and the human.
