Recently: You arrived at Vernon's cabin with the help of a wild Seviper. Time to train!

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

“Thanks, Seviper.” You try to reach and and rub it’s head. It takes an incredible amount of effort, but it looks like the tea has worn off enough that you can do it.

Seviper is shocked by your touch so much that she doesn’t even pull away until a few seconds later. She starts slithering to the water, then stops and turns to look at you.

Her gaze is penetrating. She’s communicating something to you. Like “us poison types need to stick together.”

Or maybe you’re reading too much into it. Seviper slithers away as Dan floats you to the cabin.

“Well, it’s about time ya got here,” Vernon greets you with folded arms.

Before you can retort, you’re tackled from the side. “Kat!” Robin hugs you tightly. Her head pulls up, looking you over. Satisfied you’re not hurt, she starts laying kisses on you.

“Uhh, Robin...” Your voice is weaker than you intended. “I missed you too. But maybe this isn’t the right place?”

She pauses before looking over to Vernon. She turns that assuring shade of crimson you like. “W-why didn’t you s-s-say anything?”

Vernon shrugs. “I’m a lonely old man and I don’t get cable out here.”

Robin becomes even more red. Vernon just laughs as he hands you a new cup of tea. You get the feeling he’s trying to creep her out so you two will concentrate on training instead of being all over each other. Well, mostly.

“Alright. Enough clowning around. You both need to rest. Tomorrow we get to work.”

It’s not that late.

Robin helps you drink the cold tea.

“So, how did you two get here?”

Vernon opens a curtain and looks out to the side of the cabin you haven’t see yet. “There’s a worn road not far from where we left you. I had my car parked there.” He sighs dreamily as he looks at what you assume is his car. “By the way, anyone that scratches my car...well, don’t scratch my car.”

Robin gets up from your side to look out at it. “It’s really nice.” She fidgets, like something is bugging her. “But why didn’t we park in the garage?”

He turns around. “Do not. Go. In. The. Garage.” His tone isn’t as menacing as he probably meant. He’s like a kid keeping a secret.

You can already feel your muscle control coming back. “So, what are we going to be doing?” You’re tired, but you want to know.

Vernon turns back to you and smiles. Now this looks menacing! “Well, that depends on what you’re looking to do. There’s the initial strengthening and move training, but you have a few choices to think about. We can teach your Pokemon how to change abilities. But there’s also other things you can learn.”

“Like what?”

“I wanted to let you sleep first, but I’ve also developed a training regime for permanently changin’ a Pokemon’s ability...to one that species can’t normally learn. There are limits, though.”

Your mind races at the possibilities. He keeps talking. “We can also work on teachin’ your Pokemon a move they normally can’t. Again, there are limits.” That’s right. He mentioned that Pikachu that knew Surf before. He must have developed a trick to do the same for other moves and Pokemon.

“That’s a lot to think about,” Robin says quietly. You can see the gears turning in her head too.

You pull yourself with Robin’s help. “One more question. How can I train my other Pokemon?”

Vernon sighs. He looks a little annoyed, and a little proud of himself. “I have that handled, but it’ll be a few days.”

You grab Robin by the hand and start making your way to your room.

“The walls are paper thin. Just a head’s up,” Vernon stretches before heading to his room.

You and Robin head into your room and get ready for bed. You’re pooped. You ask about her day. She spent most of it pampering her Pokemon and learning about Vernon. She’s still not sure how she feels about him. It sounds like he likes to mess with her. You can’t really blame him.

You guys chat a bit. You and Robin eventually get on the topic of training.

The truth is, you’ve been thinking about something on your own. Something like an ability, but not.

For example, you had this idea for Zappy Dan. What if you could train him to float before even entering the field? You think there might be a way to pull that off. Or a way for a Pokemon to slowly regain health over time without using a move. If a Pokemon can learn a move like Recover, why not something like that? “After all, what really separates Tackle as a move, and tackling as just something you do?”

“Like using a move without using a Move...” Robin says as she stares off into nothing.

But to do something like that, you’d need to work incredibly hard in the next three months. You doubt you’d be able to do any other training besides learning a few easy moves and working a little on stats.

And of course, you could always just ignore all of that, and work entirely on power. You’re good at thinking on your feet, so just getting as strong as possible instead of learning tricks might be a good option too. Imagine the gains you could get.

You drift off before you realize it. Robin is just too comfy, despite the lack of body fat. Morning comes way too quickly in the form of Vernon and his Poliwrath spraying you with water. “Rise and shine, princesses. We’ve got some training to do!”

You and Robin wipe yourselves down a bit. “The beds soaked. And what about breakfast?”

He smiles. “Breakfast is at the summit! And if you’re worried about the bed. Don’t worry. You can do the laundry as soon as we get back!”

He starts walking out the door, assuming you’re going to follow. He’s out the door and moving quickly before you know it. Even with the cane, he and Poliwrath are moving quickly.

>Let’s go!
>What the hell? This isn’t going to fly, Vernon!

You run outside and give your shirt a quick wringing. “Come on, let’s show this geezer what we can do!”

Robin comes too, just as enthusiastic. “We’ve been walking almost the entire journey. We can do this!”

She’s right. You’re both in great shape for this. You quickly catch up and pass Vernon.

Robin is between you and him. She looks back, worried about passing him. “Is it okay if we run ahead?”

He waddles incredibly quick with his cane, but not as fast as you two young girls. “You’d better, skinny legs! If I beat you up there, I won’t let you hear the end of it!”

With the go-ahead from your trainer, you both pick up the pace and head into the woods leading up the small mountain. It’s a beautiful day and a beautiful view. You tell Robin about your journey as you both work your way up.

You can see the concern on her face as you tell her about some of the more dangerous parts, but she doesn’t comment. She doesn’t say anything though. She knows you can read her face and it’s already done.
When you get to the part about the Garchomp though, she opens her mouth to say something.

Just then a car comes roaring down the road in front of you. The window rolls down and you see Vernon and Poliwrath wearing shades and sipping on drinks with straws in thing.

“By the way. No using your Pokemon. Don’t even take them out.”

Robin pants, still a little winded from the climb. “But why?”

His tires spin and he peels off, heading up the mountain road without answering.

“He’s annoying this morning,” you comment to Robin as you watch him go.

The two of you keep going until you reach a blocked path. A large boulder is in your way. It’s too large to go over and the path doesn’t really let you get around.

Robin is a little behind. She’s filling your water bottles at a small stream while you went to look ahead. Normally you wouldn't be this tempted, but the way he drove off rubbed you the wrong way.

Robin comes over with your water bottles. You both take a quick drink as you appraise the situation.

You wipe your mouth and rummage through your bag. “I think I can boost you up. Then we can use the rope.”

Robin nods. “Okay! That’s a good plan.”

You bend down so she can climb up your shoulders. Ah! Gah! You really wish you spent more time training with Vance. Or that he was around right now. Or Jeanine... Or Clair. Or Devon, or Aria or -ow!

“Sorry!” Robin says from above.

No time to miss them. You end up having to lift your arms up and lock them to give her the extra boost she needs. You strain your arms in this awkward position, and Robin barely manages to get up. After a minute she tosses the rope down. “Okay. It’s secure. Be careful though.”

You start climbing up the rope with your already tired arms. You’re tough though. And your shoes are able to get a good grip on the side of the rock.

You get to the top with Robin. Whoo. You pant. That was harder than you thought. Your feet hit something. You look back and see that you accidentally kicked the water bottles back where you came from. They slide and down the mountain, going out of view very quickly.

“Oops.” You give Robin and apologetic look.

Robin smiles. “It’s okay. We’re close to the top.”

You lower yourself down the other side, then watch carefully as Robin comes down after. You give her completely unnecessary butt support.

The two of you keep going. Your arms are exhausted, and it took longer to get over the boulders than going back would have probably taken, but you’re feeling proud.

Eventually you come to the winding road again. Vernon is waiting there in his car.

“Hey kiddos. Hope you’re feelin’ fresh, cuz I’m ramping things up.” He gestures to two sticks with buckets full of swampy water. “We’re not far from the top, so you can handle this, right?”

You’re pretty tired, actually. You really don’t see the point in this. You can tell from Robin’s expression that she thinks this is pointless too. You’re both in good shape, not that it matters.

You stretch to prepare yourself from lifting the buckets. “Can we have some water?”

“Yeah. No problem.” He says, sounding concerned about you. He points back the way you came. “There’s a stream back that way.”

“But there’s a bit rock in the way,” Robin says.

Vernon shrugs. “Well, breakfast is at the top. Keep up the hard work! No spilling!” He drives off again, excessively fast. Just before he goes though, you can see him pull up a drink and sip from a straw.

“That dick!”

Robin saw it too. “Maybe it’s a test?”

You both lift the buckets and start marching. Oh man, this is heavy.

You don’t have the energy to talk or do much but keep going. Your strength is really leaving you now. Going uphill is always so much harder than it looks. The sweat drips off you as you finally make your way to the very top.

Vernon is there, sitting on a cooler. There’s a small tv tray with three sandwiches on it, and three small water bottles.

You and Robin approach and gently let down the buckets of water. Not a drop missing. You’re about ready to fall over. Robin actually rolls onto the grass.

But just before you get to Vernon, he quickly scarfs down two sandwiches, and gives the third to Poliwrath. He downs the three bottles of water too.

“Good job,” he says cheerfully. “Ya made it! I need you to do one more thing. Go collect some wood and start us a fire, would ya?”

The wood is all back a decent way down the mountain. Normally it’s not that far, but you’re exhausted, thirsty, and tired. Robin looks completely dejected.

You want to kick the buckets over. You want to kick him! You’re so thirsty and tired. This is totally unnecessary, even if it is some test.

You choke most of your frustration down. You can’t help but mutter though “You said there was breakfast at the summit. We’re at the summit!”

“A-yup.” He burps.

You and Robin make your way down the path.

“Wait!” Vernon yells. You turn around. “You forgot the buckets.”

Your eyes go wide and you inhale. Oh, he’s going to get it. That l-

Robin puts a hand on your shoulder. You sigh. You’ve gone this far. Might as well just go all the way.

You both lift your buckets, head down to the trees, collect some dry wood, and head back up. Starting the fire takes a little more time than you’d like, since you’re both out of practice from using fire Pokemon. Eventually, it starts.

Vernon takes out some cooking supplies and spices from the cooler he was sitting on. “Alright. You can rest now. Breakfast is on the way.” He tosses you both some drinks from the cooler too.

It smells soooo good.

“What...what was the point of all that?” Robin asks.

He chuckles lightly to himself. “When you train your Pokemon, you’re asking them to trust you. They’re following orders even if they don’t understand why. Tempers can get real high in a fight, and it’s really frustratin’ to get orders barked at you that don’t make sense when you’re trying your best and your body is yellin’ at you too.”

“But we know that already,” you feel pretty annoyed.

“Your brain knows it, but not here,” he puts a hand on your chest, over the heart, between your breasts. You pull it off like it’s an old diaper and grimace at him. He doesn’t seem to care. “You need to understand that feeling, not just know it.”

“That’s bullshit to make us do that for a lesson, but I guess I get it. Still, but is that really how pokemon see us?"

He takes your plate. “Depends on the Pokemon and the trainer.”

“When you give an order, it should have a purpose. This was just annoyance for the sake of annoyance.”

“It was so...arbitrary,” Robin expresses her frustration.

He leans back. “This lesson was mostly for you,” he looks at her. “Always pulling complicated setups. Don’t you think your Pokemon see it as arbitrary?” He looks at you. “And you, with your unusual training sessions. Think it makes sense for them at the time?”

You all eat more and enjoy the view for a bit. You’re glad for the rest.

He offers you another bottle of water. “Alright, have you two decided on how you want to train? We’ll have a test at the end.”

You have three months to train all your Pokemon. You’ll have to budget your time wisely]

How will you train all of your Pokemon in the next three months? You'll still have time for basic stat training and learning a couple of moves, regardless of what option you choose.

>Spend the first 2 months learning Vernon’s ability switch
>Spend the first month teaching each one a move their species can’t normally learn
>Spend three months working on that idea you shared with Robin (basically mimicking certain hold items. We’ll vote on a different one for each Pokemon)
>Spend three months permanently changing a Pokemon’s ability to one their species usually doesn’t have (Some game-breaking limitations apply)
>Spend 1-3 months training stats and nothing but stats
>Decide individually for each Pokemon
>Something else

I need to think about what to do with each though. brb.

I think teaching Levi to have the Moxie ability would be pretty good.
>>
Could we put all our Pokemon on a routine of supplements for these 3 months?
>>

>supplements
pleb, but if we can get some free samples from Devon Corp I don't see why not.
>>
We should teach Vlad to combine Toxic and Poison Fang so it causes a bad poison every time
>>
I suspect that Fel's ability is Effect Spore...
>>
>>41556161
also Fel should learn Hurricane and combine it with his over abundance of powders to cause a random effect
>>
>>41556161
That's a neat idea. Though he also needs to get harder hitting moves in general. He could use à stronger flying move, like air cutter, or Fly. Moves like steel wing, hypnosis, or shadow ball woudn't hurt either. It's too bad he can't get anything against steel types though. We'd have to switch out against those (after getting a confusion off maybe).
>>
>>41556237
Yeah, Fel is the one that needs to catch up, so it's mainly moves, stats, and combos for him.
>>
>>41556250
Maybe we can get him to learn Flying Press or Wake-Up Slap
>>
We should stick with speed on Destiny
Make it so people can't even see her when we send her out
>>
>>41556377
Teach her to use Agility and Dragon Dance as soon as she comes out for a battle
>>
Dan we can try to teach him to pretty much Levitate, seeing as he's got a pretty good moveset and Stats. Maybe have Vlad teach him to maneuver in the sky better too. If we have time I guess we could work on stats more like Def and Sp Def, or round out his moves with stuff like Flash Cannon, Lock On, and Mirror Coat as just-in -case.

Don't forget about getting Levi and Raistlin to Mega Evolve

And we still need to get our Porygon

You think long and hard about it. This is your big training session before the championship.

“I think I want to customize it depending on the Pokemon,” you tell him. “I have a lot of ideas, but there’s no one single one that fits for everyone.”

Vernon nods, impressed. “Well, I’m impressed. Alright. We’ll make a plan for each one.”

Robin has the same answer. You can tell she’s really eager to try your ideas though. She’s already doing some theorycrafting using her Pokedex.

“Alright then,” Vernon pushes himself up. “Now, a few things you should know. When there are a lot of participants, they tend to have a few rounds of Double Battles to cut down the numbers. You might be teamed up with another trainer on your team for one or two battles, depending on how many enter this year. Emma also likes to do double battles, but not always.”

“That doesn’t seem fair,” Robins says. “You might drag down your teammate.”

He shrugs. “It’s not always fair. But the thinking is a champion who can’t manage there wouldn’t stand a chance against the elite four.”

You both look at him.

“What? I don’t make the rules.” He pauses. “Oh. It probably won't come up, but the current champ does get a single veto to any proposals or changes made by the Elite Four.”

That’s not good news. “Anything else?”

“You probably know this, but some of your Pokemon might be train a little quicker than others, depending on what they’re learning.”

Robin, who has been going over her Pokedex and frantically scribbling notes, has an idea for her Golem. She thinks she can do something where if Golem is hit with a super-effective move, it will get a sharp boost to its offensive power. [Weakness Policy].

Who will you plan training for first?

>Devon (Houndoom)
>Nibbles (Tyrantrum)
>Leviathan (Gyarados)
>Zappy Dan (Magnezone)
>Trunks (Trevenant)
>Fel (Butterfree)
>Aria (Meloetta)
>Destiny (Kingdra)
>Raistlin (Alakazam)
>Vlad (Crobat)

He'll be our secret weapon
Still applies if it's a Rottom

He needs the most work but will probably be one of the easier ones to train up

>Fel

Makes the most sense as the experiment pokemon. What to train it with though.
>>
Looking at Leviathan's stats, she needs to train up too. We've kind of been relying on the natural Gyarados strength she has, but that's not going to cut it against trainers who have their own Gyarados, or know how to deal with them.
>>
>>41556652
just up his move pool and try to make them all status effects life >>41556237
Maybe change his ability to Effect Spore if it's not already
>>
Nibbles needs to learn Dragon Tail for sure
it would be a better use than Roar with Stealth Rock
>>
>>41556652
Some flying type moves (and/or silver wind) to help spread his powder, some general stat increase, and we can experiment from there, maybe try to get his hidden ability.
>>
>>41556481
But didn't we learn that the Professor, who originally owned our pokedex, lost his Porygon. So the logical conclusion is that the Porygon in the dex is his, so shouldn't be one we can catch/use...
>>
>>41556757
He could also learn Fire Fang and Ice Fang to have all the biting moves on hand as needed.
>>
>>41556757
Besides that move, we should train him to have Assault Vest
>>
>>41556766
Quiver Dance and U-Turn to Devon on Raistlin would be a good combo

>>41556804
But it's been with us since the beginning and was technically our first pokemon. Even when it had the chance to get away from us it came back to our pokedex. And maybe it didn't want to retire and spend it's time doing research. We could be what's best for it.
I just really want best duck
>>
We should do the multi effect spore powder for Fel. That and teach him U-turn.

Still not archived.
