You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

The preliminaries of the tournament went well. You've qualified for the melee tomorrow, where you'll be fighting in a free-for-all against all the other competitors, amongst whom is Celia Lione. Immediately after the melee preliminaries came the joust, which Roland participated in. However, there was an incident when Reinhardt and Princess Catherine went to get food and somebody, the cloaked figure you've seen around town, tried to snatch Reinhardt's coin purse. By the time the guards arrived, the joust was over and your honor guard came to see what was goin on. It was then that Roland recognized the pickpocket as his little brother, Alfred, and dragged him away to figure out why he was away from home and stealing from people.

You lean against the arena wall with Reinhardt. It's been a few minutes since he angrily dragged his little brother off to have a word with him, and right now you and the other are waiting for him to return. The guards were kind enough to let him speak to his brother, on the condition that he allow one of them to go as well in case his brother tries to run off.

“I told you that guy was suspicious.” Reinhardt says smugly.

“Congratulations, you picked up that the guy wearing a heavy travelers cloak in hot weather looked suspicious. If we were still in Morsland I'm sure Gregory would give you a promotion.” You tell him sarcastically.

“Whatever. I'd have never guessed that it was Roland's brother though. No idea why a noble would bother stealing somebody's coin purse though. Any theories?”

“None at all. I'm sure Roland will get it out of him though. Did you see how pissed off he was when he saw who it was?”

“Nah, I was too busy talking to the guard. Don't blame him though.”

You continue to wait. At this rate the archery competition will start before they get back. Just as you start thinking that, someone you haven't met before approaches you.

“Siegfried Schmidt?”

“That's me. Something you need?”

“I'm a messenger from House Lione. I was told to come find you and tell you that the Lione family would like you to come to their estate so they can speak with you.”

“Right now? But the archery tournament is starting soon and one of the members of my honor guard is going to be participating.”

“My apologies sir. However, the Lione family has important business later today, so I'm afraid this is the only chance they'll have to speak with you. Should you choose to come, the Lione estate can be found in the noble district of town.”

His message delivered, the messenger goes about his business. Just as he leaves, you see Roland come out of the alley with his brother. He massages his temples, says something to the guard, and heads over to you.

“Sorry about that. Seems a lot has happened since I left home.”

“What's wrong?”

Roland sighs. “Well, apparently my brother had a bit of an argument with my father and decided to run away from home about a week ago. He was laying low here, but the money he brought with him finally ran out and he got desperate. Speaking of which, I'm sorry about this whole mess Reinhardt.”

“No need to apologize, you're not the one who tried to steal my coin purse.” Reinhardt says.

“Yes, well I doubt Alfred will apologize himself, so I felt I should do it for him. In any case, I'm going to have to head back home with him now and try to sort this mess out. I came to check with you and make sure it's okay that I leave.”

“You don't have to ask my permission Roland. What time to do you think you'll be back?”

“With luck, late tonight. Although it sounds like this might take a while to sort out, so I might not be back until tomorrow morning, before the tournament.”

“Sounds rough. Will you be alright?”

“Yeah, I'll be fine. Just not looking forward to dealing with father while he's angry is all.”

Seems like Roland has it rough. For a brief moment you consider offering to go with him, but then you remember your invitation to the Lione estate, along with the archery tournament which will be starting shortly. You can't be in three places at once, so you'll have to make a decision.

Well, you are here to earn their approval, so it's probably best to go to the Lione estate and see what they want.

"Alright then. Well, good luck Roland, hope everything works out."

"I hope so too. Thanks Siegfried, I'll be back as soon as I'm able." He tells you, before returning to his brother and the guards, and leaving towards the city gates.

With that settled, you find the rest of your honor guard talking to Nerillian. The archery competition should be starting soon, so they're all wishing him luck.

"Hey guys, I've got news." You tell them, grabbing everyone's attention. "Roland had to go home to deal with his brother, and I just got a message from house Lione saying they want me to come to their estate right now. Erika, Reinhardt, would you mind going with me?"

"Right now? But the archery competition is about to begin." Erika complains.

"It's fine." Nerillian stops her. "The whole reason we're here is because of House Lione, so it's best not to ignore them."

"Thanks for understanding. Good luck in the tournament."

"Luck's not needed, though I appreciate the sentiment."

A horn blows, announcing the start of the archery competition, so you part ways. Reinhardt, Erika, and you head for the Lione estate in the noble district, while everyone else heads back into the arena.

A while later, the three of you arrive at the gate of the Lione estate. A servant standing watch at the gate lets you in once you tell him your name, and you are shown in. While not as fancy as the king's palace by any means, the Lione estate is definitely impressive in it's own right. Portraits of old family members adorn the walls, along with several decorative weapons and awards. Plaques, trophies, medals, all sorts of awards can be seen, all won from tournaments. Not all of them seem to be Geoffrey or Celia's though, some appear to be from old family members. At one point you actually see one from a hundred years back. Clearly, Geoffrey and Celia weren't the only ones of their house to participate in tournaments.

Eventually, you arrive in what appears to be a living room of sorts. Geoffrey and Celia are waiting for you there. Geoffrey is the first to stand and greet you when you arrive, offering a hand for a handshake.

"Greetings Champion, I'm glad you could make it. I apologize for the suddenness of this meeting, but unfortunately our schedules wouldn't allow us to meet before the tournament resumes otherwise."

"It's fine." You tell him while shaking his hand.

"Well in any case, I'm glad you came. I imagine you and your companions have been busy with the tournament, I don't suppose you've had time to eat yet, have you?"

"Why, are you offering?" Erika answers before you can respond.

"I am indeed. Celia, could you show our guests to the kitchen while I have a word with Siegfried?"

Celia nods, and asks the others to follow her, leaving you and Geoffrey alone.

"Have a seat." Geoffrey offers, taking one himself. You oblige, pulling up a chair across from him at a small table.

"So what is it you wanted to see me about?" You ask.

"Nothing too major, I just thought we haven't really had a chance to speak with you at all outside of our introduction when you first arrived at Tarrin. It's important that a Champion be strong in battle, but I need to know more than how good you are with a blade before I can give the king my opinion."

"I guess that's true."

"Yes. Speaking of battle, I saw your performance in the melee preliminaries today. I'll admit, I'm impressed. Mr. Pierre may be a bit eccentric, but I've fought him before in other tournaments, and I know he's no pushover. Tell me, where did you learn to fight as you do? Have you had any formal instruction before you came to the tower?"

>"I learned most of what I know from the tower. Guard basic training really only taught me how to deal with petty thieves and potentially bandits."
>"Guard basic training was the closest I've had to formal training. The rest I learned along the way."
>"Not really, besides what they teach you when you become a guardsman. I've been practicing with Galadriel in my spare time though."

"Not really, besides what they teach you when you become a guardsman. I've been practicing with Galadriel in my spare time though."

Geoffrey raises an eyebrow. "Training with the swordsmaiden herself, you say? I was not aware that was possible."

"It is. Usually when I stop to meditate, it's so I can train with her."

"I see, interesting. And speaking of guardmen, I've been curious to ask. Your father was a blacksmith, was he not? Why become a guardsman instead of inheriting the family trade? Was there a particular reason?"

>"Not really. Reinhardt told me he was signing up, so I decided I would too."

You shake your head. "Not really, I just didn't want to be a smith my whole life. Becoming a guard was mostly just a way out of it."

"I see. Well, I suppose that's as good a reason as any. Of course, it's because you became a guard that you came across Galadriel in the first place from what I've heard."

"What exactly did you hear?"

"A lot of things. Once people found out about you, rumors started running wild. The true story, as I've gathered at least, was that you were on duty during the Festival of Creation when Andras appeared. Is that correct?"

You nod. "Yeah, Reinhardt and I were standing guard at the arena entrance when Andras showed up."

"Indeed? Sounds like you just happened to be in the right place at the right time then. Or the wrong place at the wrong time, depending on who you ask. As I've heard, you were one of the latter for a time, were you not?"
>>
>>41553961
You wince. He's not wrong, for a really long time you wished you hadn't been there when you were, so you would have never picked up Galadriel in the first place. Of course, you doubt that's something he'd like to hear. You'd be lying if you said otherwise though.

"To be honest, yeah."

"I see. And when did that change, exactly? Or did it change at all?"

>"Well at first, I disliked the idea of being champion. No, scratch that, I loathed it. And honestly, if you aren't one who likes glory and fame, it's really not the best job to have. The pay is low, you have to pretend to be a politician, you are expected to fight literally the most dangerous threats humanity has ever had to face, the risk of assassination and being killed in battle is so astronomical there are maybe three people who didn't meet violent ends...but you know, I became a guard because I wanted to help people in a more hands-on kinda way. Really, being Champion isn't that different from my old job...and after seeing how many more people I can help this way, by being Champion, I'd say a bit of extra risk is definitely worth it. Besides, I've made friends. Reinhardt, he was a guard as well. Erika was Galadriel's bearer when I first saw her. All the others, my Honor Guard, they're not just skilled fighters. They're people I trust and care about. And you know what? I still don't like the job, not really. It still sounds like a terrible job to have...but I wouldn't want to be anything else."

"Right after I saw the farm in Alastor's domain. I'd heard that demons kidnapped people and took them back to the Forsaken Lands before, but that was all stuff happening far away from me. I think seeing it in person changed my opinion about the Crusades."

"I see, so seeing the farm was what made you decide to accept becoming Champion?"

"Among other things, yeah."

"Such as?"

You think for a moment. "A lot of things." You finally respond. "First of all, I've learned a lot about Galadriel since I picked up her sword. We didn't see eye to eye at first, but I'd say she's a friend of mine now. I remember after the Battle of Morsland she was conflicted on whether to make me her permanent Champion or not because she knew how much I hated the job. Even now I have some reservations. The battle changed a lot of things for me though. Demons weren't just a thing that people on the border had to deal with, they were a danger to me, my family, and my friends as well. When Galadriel finally asked me if I would be her permanent Champion or not, I told her I would, because as much as I hate the idea of having a huge position like that thrust on me, if it lets me protect my friends then I'll grin and bear it."

Geoffrey listens politely to your explanation, taking mental notes and forming his own opinions about you. "Then you became Champion because you feel it's your duty, both to your friends and to people like those you rescued from the farm?" He asks once you've finished.

"Sort of, yeah. It's hard to explain, you know?"

"No, I understand. I will say though, the thought of someone conversing with the Swordmaiden the way one would converse with a friend is a peculiar one to me. But then again, maybe that's part of why she chose you."
>>
>>41555441
"Anything else you want to ask me about?" You ask.

"No, I think I'm starting to understand a bit more about you now. Besides, Celia and the others should be here soo-speak of the demon, here they are now."

The others return with food and drink, and lay them at the table you and Geoffrey are sitting at before pulling up their own chairs.

"Did we miss anything?" Celia asks her brother as she takes a seat.

"No, not at all. We just had a chat while you were gone, nothing major. In any case, thank you for coming. Help yourselves, I'll call a servant over if anyone desires seconds."

After we eat, maybe we could try our arm at arm wrestling. Challenge Geoffrey, stating we heard a rumor that their family is stronger than average, and since we recently gained some holy strength, we want to test it out.

The food is good, a lot fancier than what you've had at the Red and White Watchtowers, but still good. While everyone is eating, you start up a conversation.

"So Geoffrey, I've been meaning to ask. How come your sister is participating in the tournament but you're not?"

"I simply don't participate as often as I once did is all. Celia still enjoys them, but after a while I just decided there were other things I'd rather be doing than participating in tourneys."

"And it's a shame you did. You were one of the best." Celia comments.

"I don't think so. Were it not for our family's blessing, I'd be no better than anyone else out there."

"Blessing?" Reinhardt asks.

"Our strength. Our forefather's time as Champion granted him great strength, and some of that strength has been passed down our family ever since."

"Roland mentioned that while we were at the Red Watchtower. Said house Lione was stronger than the average man because of Asher."

"Your friend Roland was correct. Our ancestor, Asher, is still known to this day as one of the mightiest Champions. We are fortunate to trace our lineage back to him."

"Galadriel's always spoken highly of Asher. Said he was the closest she's met to finding the perfect Champion."

"I was not aware that Galadriel felt that way about our ancestor, I am pleased to hear that."

"What's it like, growing up with that kind of reputation on your shoulders? Can't be easy."

"...It is an honor, and I am proud to carry his name. Though I will admit it would be pleasant to go for a walk without people recognizing me and treating me differently."

"Brother, I don't think-"

"Come now Celia, don't tell me you've never thought the same from time to time. What about you, Siegfried? I imagine being Champion has it's own problems."
>>
>>41556608
"...Uh...You could say that, yeah."

"Sounds like you've already run into some issues."

You recall Avaline, and some of the times you were unfortunate enough to run into her in the tower halls. She's calmed down significantly since Joan said...whatever she said, but she still kind of creeps you out.

"I have, yeah." You tell him, not going further into detail. "Anyways though, I wasn't able to see either of you in the tournament today. How did your matches go?" You ask Erika and Celia, trying to change the subject.

Erika grins. "Well for starters, let me tell you about my match with Justine..."

--------
Some time has passed, and now the three of you are about to leave. The others are already waiting at the gates, while you wait at the door for Geoffrey, who said he had something for you before you left.

"Sorry for making you wait." Geoffrey apologizes, arriving at the door with a thick stack of envelopes.

"What is that?" You ask.

"Letters, from some people you might know. After word of a new Champion named Siegfried Schmidt got out, I started pulling some strings, trying to learn more about you before you arrived. Turns out I didn't need to look far, because after a while I started getting letter like these from people in Iseria."

"You did? Who sent them?"

"A couple of those are from people in Morsland who saw you during the Battle of Morsland and felt it was their duty to speak on your behalf. The majority, however, come from people who claim to be the survivors of the farm you liberated in the Forsaken Lands."

You blink. These are from the farm's survivors? You're at a loss for words, there's probably at least a hundred letters in this stack, maybe more.

"You may keep them and read what they say if you wish."
>>
>>41556600
testing
>>
>>41556626
Curious, you open the first letter at the top of the stack and read what it says. The handwriting is a bit sloppy, but not so much that you can't understand it. The letter tells a story about how the writer was kidnapped from his village in the middle of the night and forced to fight a terrifying hybrid in a bloody arena. The writer says he would have been killed, had you not distracted the hybrid long enough for him to kill it. It dawns on you at some point while you're reading that this was written by that kid you saw on your first day at the farm. You remember the hybrid was about to kill him when you called out and distracted it, giving the kid enough time to kill it.

"They all speak highly of you, but I wasn't sure if you could live up to their praise. I admit, I still can't say I know enough about you to say for sure, but I feel I understand enough about you that I can at least be assured of your character."

"Does that mean I have house Lione's approval?"

"It means you have my approval. If you want the house's approval, you'll have to prove yourself to Celia tomorrow in the melee. I'll be wishing you luck though, if not because I approve of you then because I feel it would be good for Celia to lose for once."

You thank him, and return to your friends at the gate, stashing the stack of letters in your backpack for now. It's getting late now, Roland might be back from his family's estate by now. Nerillian and the others are probably at the palace right now, waiting for you three to return.

The second day of the tournament is here, and now you're in the arena's equipment room, choosing your gear again. After returning to the palace yesterday, you learned that Nerillian won the archery competition as expected. When asked about it, he said "There were some interesting contestants there, but I won by about 20 points. Perhaps I'll compete again if the opportunity ever presents itself."

Roland, however, still hadn't returned when you got back to the palace. Even this morning he was nowhere to be seen. If he doesn't get back soon, he'll forfeit by default. Hopefully he's on his way right now.

The tournament melee will begin shortly. You look over the various weapons and suits of armor available to you and make a decision.

You grab a halberd and a sword sidearm, then grab a chainshirt and get suited up. It's light, heavier than wearing no armor but much lighter than the full suit of chainmail you wore yesterday. Of course, by that same token you're not as well protected. Still, this will keep you light on your feet while still providing a small amount of protection.

The staff member knocks on the door and informs you that you have five minutes. Now fully equipped, you open the door and follow them outside to the arena.

16 people are waiting in the arena, standing spaced apart at the edge of the arena circle. The announcers start giving a speech, while you look around at the other competitors. Most of them don't stand out too much, though if they made it through the preliminaries they must be somewhat talented at least. You see Erika, standing about 20 feet to your right, wearing a suit of plate armor and carrying a greatsword. On the opposite end of the arena is Celia, also wearing plate armor but carrying a sword and shield.

"...Now, without further adieu, let the final round of the tournament melee begin!"

If you mean Righteous Strength then no, and you wouldn't be able to because you're not carrying Galadriel right now. If you mean the passive boost you got while you were practicing, that's always on just controlled, and they can't exactly tell you you're not allowed to use it when the Lione family has been for generations.

Also, didn't mention this before, but the actual melee works a little differently than the preliminaries. By which I mean enemies are defeated by knocking them out rather than the loser yielding. Now you know why the weapons are enchanted to be less lethal and there's healers on standby.

The closest guy to your right immediately turns to you and attacks. You jab at him with your halberd, but he nimbly dodges to the side and lands a weak blow against your leg before you can get away

>38/40 HP remaining

After getting some distance, you jab him in the foot hard, then follow with a kick while he's wincing, knocking him to the ground. You're about to close in and finish him while he's down, but Erika gives him a swift kick to the head and knocks him out herself.

"That's already one for me, better hurry if you want to keep up." She says with a grin.

"I don't think numbers are the point." You counter. "Anyways, temporary truce?"

She thinks about it for a second. "Sure, why not? Just watch your back once the competition starts to thin."

Meanwhile, Celia is engaged with two opponents who try to rush her at once. She responds by swiftly kicking one of her assailant's feet out from under him, then parrying the other and smacking him in the head with her sword hard enough to knock him unconscious. She does the same to the one on the floor.

Another opponent approaches you, this one wearing plate armor. You get an idea and try to hook him by the armor, but he swats your halberd away violently and hits you in the gut with his mace.

>36/40 HP remaining

With that idea failed, you try another and drop your halberd, grabbing him with your bare hands. The crowd gasps in surprise as you lift this grown man in plate armor over your head with surprising ease, and throw him straight into a group of people in the middle of their own fight. They're all bowled over, and you pick your halberd up and start knocking them out before they can get up. Erika is too stunned to do anything to help, but snaps out of it when another competitor comes to attack her. With that, four more competitors are out of the match.

Celia witnesses this display of strength, and is about to charge in and attack you when three other contestants get in her way. The rest of the competition looks conflicted on whether or not to attack you.

Two more people finally find their courage and approach you. Erika takes one while you take the other. You start by swinging high, hitting him in the head, then do a jumping stab, hitting him in the chest and knocking him to the ground. A quick kick knocks him out.

Erika herself has no trouble dealing with her opponent either, and quickly knocks her out as well. Meanwhile, Celia has already dealt with the three that challenged her, and is looking your way.

Currently, there are five people remaining counting yourself, Erika, and Celia. With most of the competition gone, you decide it's time to deal with Celia.

"Erika, I'm going to go fight Celia. Keep the other two off me while I fight her."

She nods, and goes to deal with the other two remaining contestants. Celia, now having a clear path towards you, raises her shield and charges forward.

You try to hook her shield and spin her around, but she responds by smashing her shield into your face and kicking you away.

>28/40 HP remaining

You wince. Roland wasn't exaggerating when he told you how strong house Lione was. Daniel certainly wasn't lying when he said her style was aggressive either, because immediately after kicking you she charges in and slashes at you, forcing you on the defensive. You manage to block or dodge all of her attacks, but you can't keep this up forever. With that in mind, you hook one of her legs with your own and manage to knock her off her feet.

The bad part is, she takes you with her, grabbing onto your arm once she starts to fall and pulling you down on top of her. She punches you in the gut, then tosses you to the side and tries to get back up.

>25/40 HP remaining

While both of you are on the ground, Erika finishes knocking out one of the two remaining competitors. She is currently too busy fighting the remaining one to help you right now though.

Before she can reach her sword, you grab one of her legs and yank her away, using your newly improved strength. After pulling her back, you then crawl towards her sword and manage to grab it before she can.

Your halberd lies about seven feet in the opposite direction. Currently you have Celia's sword along with your own. Both of you are still on the ground, though now Celia grabs her shield again and starts to get up.

On Erika's end, she finally manages to knock out the other contender. She is, however, on the opposite end of the arena, though with her opponent finished she starts heading your way to help.

You unsheathe your backup sword and start using both swords to attack her. However, she manages to get up before you can get to her, and deflects your attacks with her shield. Thinking quickly though, you pretend to swing at her again before suddenly dropping your swords and grabbing her, throwing her in Erika's general direction. The crowd cheers, clearly not used to this unconventional method of fighting in the arena.

She lands a few feet away from Erika, who immediately tries to hit her while she's down. Celia manages to roll away though, but now she has no weapon, only a shield. You crouch down and pick up both of your swords, thinking now you might just win this.

With Erika now here to back you up, you might just finish this. Charging forward with your two swords, you flank her and slash at her head with the left sword. She is busy trying to block an attack from Erika at the time, so the hit connects, dazing her. Immediately you follow up by jabbing her in the stomach with your right sword, knocking the wind out of her, then kick both her feet out from under her. Both you and Erika strike again at the same time, hitting her in the head and knocking her unconscious.

The crowd gasps. For the first time in her history, Celia Lione has been defeated. You see your honor guard cheering for you in the king's box, while Daniel and Geoffrey simply nod their heads approvingly. The crowd soon joins them, cheering wildly for you and Erika.

Speaking of Erika, you'd almost forgotten about her when she smacks you in the back of the head. "Alright, truce over. Celia might be down, but now it's you and me."

Right, for a moment you almost forgot that this was a free-for-all. Erika falls into a stance with her greatsword, and you do the same with your two swords.

You remember Daniel teaching you how to disarm, and decide to try it here. You let Erika come to you, then try to parry with on of your swords. Unfortunately, her swing is stronger than you expected, and her greatsword breaks past your guard.

>20/40 HP remaining

Okay, you're gonna have to start practicing with that disarm. Erika may not be as strong as Celia, but she certainly is strong, so that really hurt. You don't think you'll pass out just yet, but a couple more hits like that and you just might.

When you throw a piece of metal at significant speeds, it doesn't need to fly pointy end forward. Besides, Erika doesn't have a shield.

Not that I'm actually supporting that vote.
>>
>>41559014

Maneuver yourself around so that Erika is behind a shield or sword sticking in the ground. She is a straight line fighter and highly aggressive, and probably won't consider environment well.

Then, press an attack. She will have to shift to adjust her footing because of the ground being unstable and that's when you give her the old One-two.

You feint to the left, making her move her greatsword to try to parry, then flurry attacks at her. You strike her in the leg, head, and gut in rapid succession, then kick her legs out from under her. With one last strike, you bring both your swords down on her head, knocking her unconscious.

The crowds explode with cheers. The sound of clapping and people cheering your name is almost deafening, when one of the announcers uses whatever spell is amplifying his voice to shout over the crowd.

"And there you have it folks! The winner of the 42nd Open Tarrin Melee is our Champion, Siegfried Schmidt! Let's hear it for him and all our other spectacular contestants."

Around this time, the healers run out into the arena and start rousing people. One of them comes to you and heals the wounds you suffered in the fighting, then escorts you out of the arena. As you start to leave, you turn back and see that Roland has joined everyone in the king's box, and is currently cheering for you as well.

You did it, you actually won. With this, house Lione should give the king their approval, and Galloway will enter the new Crusade. All that's left now is to wrap up, go through with the ceremony, and head back to the Red Watchtower. After that, you'll head for Belmore and rally their support too.

Of course, you'll have to speak with the watchtower captains before you head into Belmore. That will be a challenge, but for now you're content to just celebrate the fact you've gotten this far. One kingdom down, one more to go.

I have a few ideas for elemental magic that i'm going to write up and post on your twitter later on.
You can read it and use it for the setting if you want or ignore it.
It's just a new mechanic for the elements/elemental magic.

Like someone attuned for Earth is influenced by it growing stronger and having excellent defenses or someone with Water element magic being excellent with healing magic as well as versatile in combat.
>>
>>41560265
Oh and in Erikas case someone with an attunment to fire magic is also strengthened by developing explosive power both in muscles and magic with Fire related magic being excellent at crafts like smithing and alchemy in conjunction with Earth based magic or Wood/Posion/Acid based magic.

If you're proposing an overhaul to the magic system in this quest, why don't you post at the beginning of the next thread? That way everyone else can chip in their two cents on it.
>>
>>41560362
Good idea.

I'll write up a ''book'' that everyone can rate and if it's accepted Sparks can make it cannon.
We can vote what to add in or change from the other suggestions as ''supplements on the later pages of the book''.

I think that it would be better to do it in a separate thread tho to avoid clogging up Sparks thread.

Also my shift is kinda fucked up with being a guardsman and all so i won't be able to post on the beginning on the thread.

Heck i'll start writing it up in this thread.

Book title:Ancient elemental magic

This book is the result of 30 years of research and my life's work which i'm leaving behind to the members of our mages college and magic teachers in our mortal lands.

In it i will describe magical theory related to elemental magic that no other mage in our kingdoms was able to research properly thanks to the scarcity of sources.

As i already mentioned having spetial sources it's time to reveal them.

In my youth as a fresh graduate of the Misty Cloud College on the departments of Enchanting and Elemental magic i traveled to the Forsaken lands wanting to explore the unknown and find information that i could pass to the Towers through my brother who is a crusader stationed at the Red Tower.

I always had a heavy interest in old history, especially before the crusades and demon invasion happened.

In those times humans barely mastered the use of iron and societies were quite scattered and yet there's records stating that even back then the art of the arcane was wide spread, many villages having shamans and the like teaching and preserving knowledge as the predecessors of the modern magisters.

Trying to find those records that may have dissapeared was my primary goal in coming to the forsaken lands.

I successfully managed to sneak into the lands in Alastors domain where the last crusade found its end.
Thanks to the invisibility enchantment on my ring i was able to avoid most of these dumb wrath demons but i still kept away from the core region near the castle and farms as there were definitely detection wards and magically sensitive demons in there.

Oh shit, seemed I missed a lot. Thanks a lot drawfag, these all look great. If you're still taking requests, That discussion we had about Alastor in Galadriel's side quest would probably make an awesome drawing.

>"Lord Alastor, it's terrible! We've lost one of our farms!"
>"What, really?! Who liberated it, is he still here?!"
>"No sir, it wasn't liberated, we just had a terrible fire."
>"Dammit Baphomet! Don't bother me with boring shit like that. Call me when there's a new Champion or something."

Not sure how much will fit with the magic system's lore, but I'll definitely give whatever you write a read and see if I can make it work.

I spent quite some time in search for the ruins of one of the larger settlements that was marked on one of the ancient maps i got from the archives in the Red tower.

After a week i finally found the ruins.
It's the ancient city of Iron Mountain.
Carved into the mountain wall it was one of the few places where humanity managed to put up a fight before retreating from the demon invasion.

Once it was the source of the firs iron mines and irons smiths but now only those empty carved out caves and the bones of the former residents and combatants remain in it.

After using my scrying pendulum to detect magic i found the old chambers of the ''High priest'' who was the chief mage of Iron Mountain city.

His records were well hidden below a stone shelf and warded by a complicated enchantment.

It took me a whole months work to finaly deactivate the ward and enter his hidden record room.
It was presumably warded against demonic intrusion and it did its job well considering that almost all of the records were intact! (These records were passed on to the Arch magister in charge of the Misty Cloud college for safe keeping after the authors death)

The records showed that the ancient magic lore wasn't too far off in most areas to our modern magic knowledge.
In fact it is here that i made my discovery.
The ancient elemental arts.

Today every mage learns the ''elemental bolt'' spell at some point in their studies but this is but an elementary way to using the elements along with all the modern elemental spells that we know today.

Elemental power is finely connected to the Aether that makes up this world in subtle but different ways.

There's a major point in modern magic that i'm going to dispute and maybe even disprove in this book.

Each soul has a different atunement to Aether and thus some people are able to use magic in a much easier way.

This is a complete fallacy and here i'm going to state the truth that i recovered from the surviving records.

Each soul is differently attuned to the Aether and Elements allowing them to cast magic related to their element in a much easier way.

For example the illumination spell that is the first spell most people learn is formed with the aether of fire and lightning elemental magic.

The healing spells are all related to water and wood elemental magic.

Spells that focus on sound are all related to wind magic and so on.

Someone attuned to one of these element is going to find it much easier to cast the spells related to them or create enchantments related to them.

For example a speed enchantment is going to profit if the enchanter being attuned to wind and lightning.
A strength enchantment will profit from the user being attuned to earth and fire magic.

Of course this doesn't mean that someone with a different atunment isn't going to be able to cast an unrelated spell, it just takes more aether and concentration.

Regarding the affinity to elements i discovered pericular information.

In the rule each person has 2 major elements and one minor element they are attuned to and it is quite easy to discern it by their personality.
Those with a temperament are usually attuned to fire to some degree.

Each element is going to affect the body of the user in a special way the more it's used.

An earth based mage will see his physical strength and endurance rise to levels only a great warrior should be able to achieve (this comes from personal experience as one of my major affinities was earth).

A wind mage will be able to exert great control over his body and at some point will also take flight naturally with a thought.

A lightning mage will show incomparable speed in both mind and body.

A water mage will be able to keep a calm mind in almost any situation giving the extremely strong will power , stamina and at some point great regenerating abilities.

A wood (acid/poison) mage will develop great senses and practical immunity to most poisons and diseases while also being able to manipulate matter more skillfully and refining it for desired results (note almost all alchemists and smiths have this affinity but since ancient times many didn't devote them selves to the study of wood elemental magic which is a shame since with the boost in sensory ability it can elevate their craft to a whole new level)

And finally fire the most volatile of the elements focused almost entirely on offensive powers it will rise the users physical abilities in an explosive manner.
Those that are able to concentrate it in conjunction with their other 2 elements are able to even use it for a fine craft (note smiths and alchemists again).
Care must be taken when cultivating elemental magic as one must enter a special state of meditation induced by surrounding one self with the desired element which in case of lightning and fire can produce danger.

Once one sits down to meditate they must use their soul to sense their surroundings to absorb and refine fine specks of light called elemental aether into their soul.

Once absorbed by the body it will strengthen and the user will be able to execute spells related to it in a much easier manner.

For example a user of wood and earth elements is going to be able to cast and amplify a strength buffing spell in a very easy manner.
Notes about the author:
Victor Antonin was the late dean of the elemental department of the Misty Clouds college responsible for the most recent discoveries and training methods that the college employs in regards to elemental magic and the common curriculum. His students include many battle mages made famous by their exploits in wars and craftsmanship.
His last wish was for this book to be delivered to the towers defending our mortal kingdoms to support their efforts.
In the addendum we will focus on specific training methods he researched.

And that would be it.
Basically all elemental magic works similar to Galardriels taint as in the better and longer you use it the more it affects your body and gives you abilities related to it.

So Andras for example was heavily attuned to water and lightning with his minor being fire.

Erika is solely attuned to Fire but her potential with it are much greater the average.

Siegfried would be focused on Earth, Wind and with Water being his minor affinity.

Couple issues with the magic lore here, but most of this could be a legit theory amongst mages in the world of HSQ. One of the parts that conflicts is the idea of raw aether having an element.
>to absorb and refine fine specks of light called elemental aether into their soul.
Aether doesn't really have an element, that's it's schtick. Raw aether is the raw material of the world. Best thing I could compare it to is stem cells, in that much like stem cells are unspecialized cells that can become specialized cells, raw aether is an unspecialized substance which can be made into a specialized substance through magic or the natural whims of the Void.

That said, a person's soul, which some refer to as "soft aether" because it retains some of the properties of raw aether while being somewhat individualized, could potentially have an affinity to a particular element, which are the simplest constructs of aether. Some would debate that, but it could be a valid theory.

Minor nitpick really. Thanks for writing anon.
>>
Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. Been thinking of running that 40k quest I thought of doing a while back, might run it sometime next week (or today, if my gaming group ends up canceling again). Won't be a regular thing, just a sort of spontaneous thing I'll run from time to time when I'm not running HSQ but feel like running something.

>>41561440
Thanks man,had to simplify Alastor's design compared to the ref pic though
>>
>>41561440
No thanks for reading it Sparks.

So we have to change up the ''elemental aether'' to something else. We could use elemental essence (Coiling dragon shitstick) instead.
The elemental essence would be a derivate state between the material form of the element and the pure aether.
>>
>>41561535
>The elemental essence would be a derivate state between the material form of the element and the pure aether.
So like a sort of soft aether form of the element? That works.
>>
>>41561572
Nice. Then you could include the book as some sort of quest reward after coming back to the red tower.
However it will require from us to learn the elemental bolt spell and the intermediate book we got from Joan.
That way it would stay balanced.

I think, before we go any farther with this, we would have to hammer out WHAT the elements are.

Chinese earth fire wood metal water

Alchemical [i forgot]

Avatar fire water earth air

Captain Planet earth fire wind water heart

since you're going to give everyone an affinity and all.

The periodic table :^)

that wasn't really very funny

>Then you could include the book as some sort of quest reward after coming back to the red tower.
Already planned on it.
>>41561662
Gonna go ahead and classify them as fire, water, earth, and air. Metal falls under earth, ice falls under water, lightning falls under air, acid falls under earth, etc.
>>
>>41561662
Fire - Strength and destructive capability, at some point higly resistant to fire
Earth - Strength and Endurance, at some point can move through the earth as tho fusing with it like Alastor did on his farm
Water - Balance and stability, at some point gains high regenerative abilities
Wind - Speed and control (precision of movement and so on) , natural fucking flight

So avatar
>>
>>41561768
Just a note on this whole element stuff though, I may at some point take liberties or tweak things a bit to fit the setting. I hope that doesn't bother you.
>>
>>41561900
No problem.

As long as it keeps the meditation part, taint function similar to Galardriel and some degree of immunity or ability related to said element it will be good.

Also the 4 element system is good since it's only solid, liquid, gas and plasma so it's much broader.
>>
>>41561900
noooo problem, as long as you don't have mary sue-tier unique elements(aside from angels/demons, anyway)

So if people's souls are kinda "tinged" with a certain element, would messing with that to change/improve affinities be the same as not being human anymore?
>>
>>41561900
>>41561958

Oh and you might want to read Coiling dragon for inspiration.
>>
Oh then we should see our characters affinity as well.

So Siegfried has major Earth and Wind with minor in Water.

Erika has major with Fire and uh Earth with wind minor?

Justine has major with Wind and Water and with Fire as minor.

Joan has Fire and Wind as majors and Water as minor.

Roland has Water and Wind as majors and Earth as minor (or major cause he's dense as a brick).

Rinhardt has Fire and Water as major and Wind as minor.

Nirrelian has Wind and Water as major and Earth as minor.

Ganleon has Water and Earth as major and Wind as minor.
>>
>>41561969
>aside from angels/demons, anyway
Angels and demons are a unique case. They're as close to beings of pure Aether as you can get without being a god, and thus have a stronger attunement to Aether than mortals. Manipulating Aether is easier for them as a result, and they can actually physically see raw Aether, which is an invisible substance to mortals.

>would messing with that to change/improve affinities be the same as not being human anymore?
Not really, more a way to strengthen the soul so to speak. Most souls maintain their strength after rebirth (except in the case of extremely powerful souls, but that's a different story) which is why you get some people who are just stronger than others, but I imagine this sort of thing would "wash off" a soul during the rebirth process, so it would basically just be a way to artificially strengthen oneself. That said, there would be some in the arcane community who would doubt the effectiveness or ethicality of such a process.

I'll end up fleshing out lore and such on this stuff later, but right now I'm tired as fuck and need to get some sleep. Till next time anons.
