>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

>You have recently been made a member of the prince's personal guard. You will begin to travel to another country to investigate an assassination attempt.

>GETTING HUGE!
>>
After news of Loba's near-assassination got out, it wasn't too long until the Garou Village was in an uproar. In the center of the town, Garrus and Salia (well, more accurately, Yvette on their accounts) are trying to speak to their entourages and the locals, many of both parties being in a shocked frenzy.

"King Drasma and his protege are tending to Lady Loba's wounds. We will know who attacked her then," Yvette says matter-of-factly, loudly.

Ultimately, the accusation that everyone was waiting to be thrown out comes from the mouth of Ahua: in response to Yvette's statement, she barks out, "and how do we know they're going to make anything better?!"

"I beg your pardon." Yvette stares the wolf girl down.

Ahua either doesn't understand the intimidation of Yvette or doesn't care, since she only gets louder, angrier, "I'm saying it's gonna be awfully easy for your king to just say 'there was nothing we could have done' after having her killed."

From here, the other wolves start getting rowdy, cries of "murdering interlopers!" and "I bet that nomad did it!" and the like.

Surprisingly enough, the voice that quieted the wolves was that of Vaga, speaking much louder and more authoritative than usual, "we don't KNOW what happened, who attacked her! All this aimless speculation is just going to get people killed for no purpose. In fact, it seems highly improbable that they would send my sister back solely for the purpose of killing my mother."

Dama chimes in, "so all of you shut up!"

You figure that nothing's going to be solved by sitting around while everyone just tries to place blame or calm people trying to place blame down.

Seeing Vaga clearly annoyed stomping out, you follow him, sidling out of the general area, moving to a far less densely populated part of the town. Following Vaga's path, hoping to talk about the situation at hand, he ends up walking towards another small group consisting of Mitchell, Stefyn, and surprisingly, Neir's princess.

While Salia seems almost as indignant as Vaga, the other two seem mildly annoyed at best. By the time you approach them, Salia has already turned to Vaga and started complaining about how unfair it is that his people jumped to these conclusions.

"I'm not sure that your people didn't do it, but I agree that it's quite unfair to assume they did." Vaga speaks, looking towards you as you get closer to the group.

Stefyn immediately tenses up, holding up both of his hands and excusing himself from the group in a nervous manner, causing Mitchell to sigh and shoot you a displeased look.

"There has to be a way to find out what really happened without flinging blind accusations." Vaga states, glancing around his field of vision for nothing in particular. "I'm going to try and piece this together. There has to be some clues somewhere, right?"

Princess Salia agrees with him, stating that she'd also like to find out the actual answer rather than just allowing everyone to keep bickering like that. Mitchell admits that he and Stefyn honestly just wanted to get away from the whole situation.

"Any idea where we could start?" Vaga seems to be asking Princess Salia in particular, but does shoot a quick glance at both you and Mitchell in case either of you wanted to give input.

"Maybe we could check on your mother? I mean,, examining the scene of the crime would be a pretty good way to figure out..."

"Pfft, you think I didn't do that as soon as I rushed to her side? Time is of the essence and whoever nearly killed my mother is still presumably nearby. From my own examination, she was struck by an axe, an exceptionally heavy one, regardless handled with speed. The angle of her gashes led me to think that it was a very tall sort..."

"Well, then, let's try looking around the outskirts of town!"

Mitchell nods, adding on, "either whoever did it's in town or they're on their way out, so if anything it could be our only chance to cut 'em off."

Vaga nods, leading the party in a specific direction.

You keep quiet, yourself and Mitchell staying closer to Salia than Vaga. If you're searching for a would-be assassin, a noncombatant princess needs the most protection.

Salia asks Vaga, "why would anyone want to attack Lady Loba anyway?"

After a moment of thought, he responds, "the Garou have a lot of ancient enemies, princess. Even one of the biggest ones' chief's kids in your group."

"H-hey, Quidel wouldn't! Besides, you said she was attacked with an axe, and-"

"-and you can't just sneak in and out of our meeting hall without being noticed without someone assisting you. There was most likely an accomplice, someone who would've-"

"And Quidel wasn't exactly privy to your housing before this began, was he? If anyone was a mole, it has to have been one of your guys," Mitchell responds.

Vaga sighs before replying, "maybe... but I'll see to that being addressed after the actual assailant."

Just at the edge of the village, a pale, human-looking woman you don't recognize lays against a tree. A very impressive-looking sword is also propped up by the tree. A long scarf rests just under her chin, wrapped around her neck.

Vaga, Mitchell, and Salia also stand and stare. The woman doesn't seem to notice any of you.

Vaga seems indifferent. Salia tells you to be careful. You reassure her that you will and start over to the woman.

Hearing your footsteps, she looks up at you. From this close, it's painfully clear that her eyes are glowing. You feel a chill down your spine, but still ask her what she's doing this far out in the mountains, in Garou territory no less.

In an affable, somewhat indifferent tone, she says, "yeah, admittedly. What can I do you for this evening?"

"Alright, fine... I'm Ellen, and I'm just... curious. Did you come alone? If you came with anyone, did THEY listen to orders?"

Simia take a moment to respond, as though questioning whether she cares enough to answer. Ultimately, she does so, "yeah, Tigris was being a good noodle. Last I heard, he was annoyed that we would have to 'go to plan B.' I just sort of told him to have fun with that."

"What's plan B supposed to be? What's Tigris doing? Who the hell are you working for?"

Simia groans and stands up, readjusting her scarf to cover her face. "Your questions are really annoying, you know. I think I'm just gonna go... This way. Go down a path that Tigris won't intercept me and try to get all disciplinal."

Simia walks starts walking off with that, grabbing her sword and heading down the path out of town, opposite the path through which you came into town.

Mitchell responds, "well, what are we waiting for?! Let's follow him!"

Naturally, you do so, coming by on the tail end of Vaga explaining what happened to his sisters, Garrus, and Yvette in particular (the others are just sort of listening from nearby) outside of where Loba is being kept.

"Dama, you know how he is."

"I resent that. Regardless, someone known as 'Tigris' is planning some sort of second attack, if this Simia is to be believed."

Khozen roars from where he was sitting, as though signaling something. Moments later, accompanied by Zoe and Monica, Cheryl flies down, saying "a lot of dead-looking folks are headed this way from the Neir entrance! It looks like a berserker is among their ranks, too, maybe in charge! We couldn't tell without getting dangerously close, y'know?"

Yvette immediately starts shouting, "everyone, be ready! I don't imagine they're here for bear meat! Defend Lady Loba and King Drasma!"

For the most part, the initial wave of people heading out to meet the horde head-on are mounted, but you and Ahua are exceptions. Aside from you two, Yvette, Biff, Byron, Zoe, Cheryl, Monica, and Quidel are part of this wave.

Waiting for them at the edge of town are Reese, Dama, Robert, Jay, Mitchell, Garrus, Natalie, and Stefyn.

The guarding of the town itself, especially its leader, is in the hands of Vaga and a few other Garou.

Ahua becomes a significantly more intimidating wolf... thing upon transformation, outspeeding even the pegasi to meet the Revenant approaching.

There's an absolute TON of them, but they are slow and have even more heavily-choreographed attacks than the premature Dracozombies. By the side of such a powerful shifter and with so many knights and other Garou piling in, it's unlikely that you'll be overpowered.

Ahua doesn't really acknowledge your help, but maybe she doesn't notice. She certainly doesn't seem to need it.

You decide you can totally handle trying to keep attacking these things, possibly even taking on this Tigris fellow. Your defeat of Tabat has left you pretty confident in slaying berserkers.

You swing your sword time and time again, mowing down the monsters in your way without much effort, feeling stronger and hearing the sounds of other revenants being felled. You hear Cheryl complimenting Zoe and Biff spouting some one-liner as you get deeper into the horde.

There's only one real problem, though. You literally can't see through all of these undead. You could've sworn you had a general idea of where Tigris was before, but now... Now you're surrounded by a swarm of revenant and entombed, several of the latter having decided to postpone their march towards the village to surround and close in on you in particular.

You know that even the strongest of warriors get tired after awhile, so if this continues...

Recognizing that you've gotten yourself a bit overwhelmed here, you start calling out to no one in particular, trying to bat away the entombed as they come. A few of them are taken down by your aimless defense flurry, but at the same time you're struck by a couple of their claws. It... doesn't hurt all that bad, but you do feel very woozy afterwards, and feel it all the more urgent that you continue to dodge and repel.

More keep breaking away to take you on as you kill their undead breathren, and you continue with your increasingly-choked up cries for help, but even as you fail to get hurt again by any of these guys, it's clear that there must have been SOMETHING to the claws that's... drained you. Some sort of venomous claws?

Your vision is fading. It's getting harder to lift your sword. You finally notice Tigris joining in on approaching you.

You find yourself flashing back to your helplessness against the Johalva bandits. You swear you see Tabat's own form in front of you where the Deadlord once stood, seeing horrific, mangled human beings where you saw Revenants and Entombed earlier. Are you hallucinating?

"Still that same weakling even after killing me," your hallucination of Tabat says derisively, lifting his axe, "and here I was hoping the woman who killed me was a worthy fighter. The world is truly unfair..."

You put forth all of your efforts into attacking the hallucination of Tabat that has replaced Tigris in your poison-induced state. Swinging at him, you say, still with a choked-up voice, "I was h-hoping you would... show up here... It's... why I came out this far. Look at you, hiding behind all of these puppets, some sort of scared ghost! You're the pathetic one, hiding and having the nerve to call me weak! I'll kill you a second time!"

Hallucination-Tabat actually looks somewhat impressed, even if he parries every single strike your tired self can manage. "Gorman's determination, his training, his legacy... Here I thought I had eradicated his finest student."

Finally, the poison overwhelms you, bringing you to the ground. Somehow jolting you back into reality moments before you slip out of consciousness, you hear a friend's voice, filled with a flurry of emotion she rarely expresses. "Cheryl, Monica, it's just like we talked about... Triangle attack!"

When you return to consciousness, you're just within the town, eyes open to a staff being waved above you. Your eyes trace its holder's hand to the form of Natalie.

You say nothing, simply looking up and around. Nat smiles down at you, and you slowly sit back up... only to find a certain pegasus knight's arms around you.

"You're okay!" Zoe says, sounding as though she's trying not to cry. It's almost embarrassing.

You take a moment to look around, sort of assuming you had another moment of heroically passing out, but just happened to wake up faster this time... and literally the first thing you see is Ahua lying on the ground in her more canid form. Nearby, Tigris is squaring off against Jay and Robert, closer to the center of the village than ever. Revenants and Garou are fighting, and of course knights are continuing to give all they've got against the undead menace.

We've lost a lot of ground, and now we're barely keeping them away from the town. Ahua is out cold after a fight with Tigris, so she was moved over to be with her mother. A few Garou have been ripped up..."

You take another look at Jay and Robert, seeing Robert take swing after swing at Tigris while shouting all sorts of unsavory things, Jay mainly trying to repel any attacks on his friend.

Stefyn and the transformed Dama are fighting side-by-side, intercepting as many enemies that break through as possible.

Vaga is actually playing more aggressively now, having transformed and rushed into the horde.

You don't see anyone else, but are reassured that they're alright, and soon enough you actually feel fully healed.

Nothing's going to stop you from helping SOMEONE now.

Your immediate reaction is to run towards Jay and Robert, again attacking Tigris. Sword ready and Zoe quickly taking to riding behind you, you rush to their aid.

Moments before his axe was about to make contact with a disarmed Jay, Tigris is distracted by your sword striking his arm, followed by Zoe whacking him from above in a fashion not unlike the middle sister of her family.

"Trying to hit me again? Didn't I make it clear how outclassed you were before?"

"Well, that was different!" Robert says, "this time, she's got me and Jay backing her up!"

Jay nods, despite not... Actually being armed.

"I'm here too..." Zoe tries to say.

She's immediately drowned out by Robert's lame attempt at a one-liner, "Deadlord, more like dead guy!"

You immediately head in, slashing at the berserker as Robert and Zoe support you and Jay... scrambles around quietly, searching for the axe that was knocked away from him.

Though you manage to surprise him a few times, you find yourself tiring out, even as the numbers of Revenant and Entombed thin.

A young girl's voice no one is familiar with rings from the closer-to-Heim entrance. "Some hero this is! Do you think I misinterpreted the vision, Mimon?"

"No, Katina, this... looks exactly like you described. Maybe there'll be something familiar to your visions just up ahead..."

Tigris suddenly stops, uttering "those voices... I cannot fight these people."

The revenants and entombed are left without their commander, becoming significantly less coordinated as Tigris runs back the way he came, vanishing in a puff of shadows.

Everyone seems... confused by this sudden turn of events, but they quickly take the opportunities to hunt down the last of the revenants.

A curious Garrus and Salia are the only other two to abstain from zombie-finishing to investigate these newcomers who could apparently scare off a Deadlord.

What the three of you find instead is a scared-looking blonde girl, seemingly in her early-mid teens, a fellow dressed in simple, yet elegant blue robes and black curly hair, and an extremely tall, muscular-looking fellow in light robes, all holding different sorts of book. The three are surrounded by at least a dozen of the remnants.

The black-haired one, having the voice that was referred to as "Mimon" earlier, asks the girl, "is this a heroic enough situation for you?"

Katina, her name presumably is, puffs her cheeks and starts thumbing through her book. "A-ha!" She points from a page in the book to an Entombed, setting it ablaze along with a nearby one.

The big guy grunts and waves a staff around, causing a pair of giant spiders to appear in a flash of divine light and devour another two.

Mimon, however, has the flashiest display, using a magnificent burst of wind called forth from a tome to literally tear the other eight into pieces, all while standing directly in front of them and baiting them away from his other companions.

Salia looks on in awe, and Garrus looks at you as though silently asking what to do.

You decide to approach them, causing the giant spiders to glare with indecipherable intent at the three of you.

Garrus is the only one unnerved, and Salia actually goes over to try to pet one of them, only to look somewhat disappointed when the big guy makes them disappear.

"Bah, Logan, you never let people play with your spiders!"

"They're not like normal animals, Lady Katina. The Bael I summon are very aggressive because they're just spells."

"Hmph."

Mimon's eyes widen upon seeing the three of you, possibly not having expected other humans to be here. Regardless, his composure is unchanged, and he's the first to greet the three of you. "Has this been happening for awhile? Sorry if we took so long to make an abrupt appearance."

"It's not your fault mountain-climbing is tough, Mimon! You shouldn't be hard on yourself!" She says this with enough intensity and naivety that "infatuated child" feels almost like an understatement.

"Are there any more of them?" Mimon asks the three of you, ignoring Katina's statement.

DOUBLE DOWN!
>>
>>41577958
"Yes, but we and the rest of Neir's knights are taking care of it."

Garrus starts, "the... Deadlord ran away when he heard you coming. Do you happen to know why he-"

"It's because Mimon is the greatest Sage ever! He can wipe the floor with anyone as easy as taking a breath!"

Though he doesn't change his tone of voice, Mimon does get a bit red from embarrassment, saying, "now, now, I'm just a mercenary. I'm hardly an Archsage, Katina."

Salia looks like she's realized something. "Katina... Hey, you're Mage General Corneria's daughter, aren't you?"

Katina nods, "I'm on a super important quest to find my twin brother, Bolse! We've always had a sort of... weird magic connection, and lately I've been seeing visions of him doing things! So mom made sure I was in the best hands possible and sent me to look for wherever he could've gone missing! I'm... really not feeling like he's in the garou mountains in hindsight, though. He gets scared too easy! I think I'll check back with mom soon..."

Garrus insists that Katina's party travel with his own, since they were headed for Heim's capital anyway.

Lady Loba did not yet wake up (but is expected to recover), and Ahua survived her defeat with no lasting injuries. She would later entrust Dama with traveling with the party, investigating this faction that has now targeted them as well as Neir's royalty, while she and Vaga remained to run the village until mom got better.

You spend another day in Garou Village in relative peace before all moving on.

how many levels we gain

was it possible to kill Tigris this thread
>>
>>41578342
Entombed are like EXP pinatas, so you're probably around level 10.

It MIGHT have been possible if you were clever enough and attacked him as soon as you woke up, but it was extremely unlikely and we hadn't explicitly thought up any pathways that ended in it. Overall, you made wise decisions anyway, aside from rushing into the sea of zombies.

I did have a contingency in mind in case it was pulled off, though.
>>
>>41578385
implying we aren't always thinking of gains when we go shit like that

HUGE
>>
>>41578565
Yeah, but EXP gains are written flexibly enough that Ellen can't just constantly tear through everything herself by the midgame as the most viable strategy, even if she is admittedly pretty consistently stronger than average.
>>
>>41578613
Also, this never got clarified, but did Reese become an actual Knight (as in, the class) or is he a Soldier? Given the high defense he's displayed, I've assumed the former.
>>
>>41578682
Yeah, he became a Knight-class.

How often are you guys making the next thread?
