Celes is waiting expectantly for your answer, a reassuring nod all she gives you. “Go on up.” She waves you towards the door of the tower. Nothing inside but a staircase leading up…

Zidane is hot on your heels, peering about with excitement, despite the relatively mundane look of the tower’s insides. Well, mundane until you take a few steps up the staircase. Everything goes blurry for a few moments, causing both you and the tailed boy to shriek in surprise, Celes laughing in her throat, before she pushes you onwards.

The walls of the tower’s bottom floor expand outwards into green stone, in an impossible space, as the stairs curl up on themselves, heading higher into the evident NOTHINGNESS that seems to continue on for forever. “Ughhhhh. Stairs!” Zidane groans.

Celes gives him another shove, “I would’ve thought you’d like climbing. Besides, what did you expect from a wizard’s tower. Now get a move on.” She says while Zidane grumbles about the shot at his evident monkey-ness.

The climb is absurdly long. Your calves are aching, your covered in sweat and your stomach is growling again by the time you reach the top, at least you had the keyblade to use as a crutch, poor Zidane staggers when you reach the landing, his legs giving out underneath him. Celes seems unfazed by the whole ordeal, watching the blonde boy crawl himself forwards for a few moments.

“Master?” Celes calls, rapping her knuckles against the simple wooden door on the stairs landing, one which as you can see around it, apparently leads to nothing and nowhere. “You must’ve seen us outside? I stumbled across another keyblade wielder.”

She nods, despite the lack of response, and twists the knob, ushering you in and leaving Zidane on the doorstep to drag himself through. “Vasi, meet Yen Sid, the greatest living magician, and last Keyblade Master.” Celes introduces the old man with pride.

The Wizard doesn’t say a word once you’ve entered, merely observing you while running a hand through his incredibly long grey beard. The guy might as well be the personification of the word wizard, he’s even got the pointy hat.

“Ya ever think about getting an elevator?” You ask, hunched over and panting, trying to regain your breath after that hellacious climb

“Vasi!” Celes hisses, stepping forward, an apologetic look to the wizard, “Master, I’m sorry, I didn’t think-”

The old man is just laughing, a deep bassy chuckle, it only lasts a for a few moments, but he waves Celes down, “Let it pass Celes, no harm taken. The staircase is merely there to give me some physical activity while I get the mail.”

You can feel your eyebrow twitch while Zidane chips in from the floor, “Okay, how do you even get mail here?”

Yen Sid ignores him completely, “But if you’d rather a faster way up, I can arrange for one to arrive when you enter the tower.” You help Zidane stagger to his feet, and the wizard finally gives him a glance, “And you are….”

“Zidane Tribal, dashing rogue and explorer to be!” He announces with a cocky grin.

“Some townsperson Vasi took a liking too, and invited him along.” Celes answers after him, Zidanes’ grin fading.

Yen Sid gives Zidane another cursory look, before he speaks, “Well young man, if you want to explore other worlds, you’ll be wanting a way to defend yourself, would you not?”

Zidane seems confused, jumping with surprise as two sheaths appear on his belt, each one holding a long dagger. “Woah…. nice.” He whistles.

Still, you feel like you should mention something important to this wizard guy. “Listen, what Celes said about you being the only Keyblade Master? It’s not true. I met this woman named Aqua, who was also a master as well. She made me her apprentice and everything.” You show him the star shaped charm Aqua had given you when you’d said goodbye.

That gets the wizards attention, he holds a hand out for the charm and you pass it to him, the old man inspecting it. “Yes…. yes this is Aqua’s. But how did you meet that woman? She disappeared almost ten years ago.”

You tell him everything, from Radiant Gardens to that great green field, to the spooky graveyard, to the train tracks that led to meeting Zidane. “And then Celes told me eight years had passed….” You finish.

The old man nods and shifts in his seat, “Well, my dear girl, it seems that you had a good section of your life claimed by entering another realm. Time between the two does not flow in a tandem ratio, so regrettably, it seems that your time spent there has been lost to you.”

While it is bad that you’re so thrown out of time, the fact of the matter is that it sounds like Yen Sid knows about whatever that place was, and quite a bit at that. Which means…

“What exactly was that place? It had all of those creepy shadow monsters and stuff and seemed to just go on for forever.”

Yen Sid shuts his eyes for a moment, before he explains, “That place you went to, was known as The Realm of Darkness, it is the source of all Heartless, and seeks to corrupt the realm of Light with it’s taint. Any who travel there are lost.” He opens his eyes again, staring through you. “Until now, that is. Tell me, how did you get out?”

You think back to that huge door, “There was just this… big white door, that we found, but…. Aqua had to stay behind and tried to seal it from the inside so that the Heartless couldn’t escape here anymore.” You frown, “Didn’t work though, I’ve already seen them again.”

The wizard nods a few times, “Yes, poor Aqua knows not what she’s dealing with, it seems there are those with such darkness in their hearts in the Realm of Light that they are able to summon the Heartless forward by creating their own portals to the Dark.”

That reminds you of the witch who took over home, “Please, could you tell me what happened to Radiant Gardens? It’s been so long I don’t- I just-” You shrug weakly.

He smiles apologetically, “My dear, your home was nearly swallowed entirely by the dark, only the castle of your town remains, and it has become riddled with heartless, twisted and turned into a mechanical nightmare. You would hardly recognise it.”

Everything else is gone? Your house? The ice cream shop, The sandlot? The bailey? Everything?

You’re starting to feel a little woozy again. In fact, the floor rushes up to support you.

When you awake, you have a pounding pain in your temples, and you’ve been laid out to rest on a couch… hovering a few feet in the air. Freaky.

With Celes and the wizard discussing something quietly, Zidane’s the first one to notice you’re awake. “Wakey wakey, eggs n bakey.” He grins, jumping across the room, “How’d you like the new duds?” He asks, tapping your leg.

You glance down, yelping in surprise when you see an entirely different set of clothes on your body. “Did you change my clothes!” You demand, cuffing him over the head.

“Vasi, it wasn’t him.” Celes tells you, after watching you hit Zidane a few times, “Our resident seamstresses simply changed your pajamas into something a bit more… practical for the road.”

The new clothes aren’t bad either, sturdy and freeing for your movements. You hop off the couch and throw some test hits out, pretty good actually.

You were very, very close to smashing the monkey boy outright with your keyblade, but manage to hold back thanks to Celes calming you down and clearing up the situation. With the way he talked about the other blonde earlier, you wouldn’t put it past him… “Sorry Zidane.” You mumble.

Still though, trying out your new clothes you realize how good they actually feel. You wouldn’t normally have chosen something so… yeah, but it’s growing on you fast. The baggy pants especially feeling right, can’t say it’d be the same if they were actually falling down though.

Summoning your keyblade without thinking of anything in particular, you’re greeted with a very different sight than the one you’re used to. The normal keyblade you have is long, solid, and ‘heavy’. This one though, it’s light, small, and seemingly frail?

It… feels like magic, and reminds you of Aqua. Holding the blade outwards, a small flame appears at the tip. ”Kick ass.” You breathe.

“From what I have been told, and your reaction, I would assume that is not your normal keyblade, correct?” Yen Sid takes notice and speaks up, with a quick nod from you confirming his comment. “As I thought.” He says, stroking his beard and walking over to observe your weapon.

“This Keyblade… I believe it once belonged to Aqua, it has now been passed to you as a result of her acknowledging you as her apprentice.

“Wait, does that mean she doesn’t have one any more?” You question, suddenly very fearful.

He assuages your worries quickly, “No, no. Aqua has a new keyblade now, a more powerful one, yours is more… adopting that of Aquas, rather than literally becoming her. You’ll find that your old keyblade is still very much there as well. Simply focus your memories on those dear to you, and that will affect which Keyblade will be brought forth. Aqua, for example, shall allow you to wield this one.” He motions to the keyblade. “Much like the woman herself, it seems quite adept at channeling magic.”

This is all sounding needlessly obtuse, hurting your head just a little, but Yen Sid just gives a little smirk, “Pay no mind, dear child. Aqua is armed, at the very least.”

“Good. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to meet whoever made these clothes, I’m really digging them.” You give him a small smile, and the wizard simply gestures to a small door beside him, silently.

You follow through the door, finding a small annex with three old grey haired women inside, each wearing a different colour, blue, green and red. You note that each shade of their dresses is included in your own outfit now, what with the red vest, the blue pants and the dull green shoes…. not exactly subtle, but oh well, it’s comfy.

“Oh- How can we help you dear?” The red woman asks, bustling over, “Does something not fit quite right?” She pulls at one of your pants legs, “I knew we shouldn’t have made them so baggy.” With a flutter of a magic wand, the pants are dyed red and subtly change their fit.

Soon enough all three of them are making alterations, the colour changing back and forth between the three, until you’ve got to speak up. “Enough.” The three women jump back, startled.

You clear your throat, “Ladies, just work together. I liked how the three of you worked originally. I was actually coming in here to thank you.”

The three of them exchange glances, turning in to whisper in a circle, before nodding as a group. “All right then girls, on three.”

They count down, and sure enough, your clothes are back to how they had been when you woke up, with less obnoxious colors, being replaced mostly by black, with the fur on the edge of your vest now being a striking white, compared to the dull grey it was earlier.

“Well, ladeeda.” You whistle, before giving each of them a bow. “Thank you ladies. I appreciate it.”

“Oh no problem dearie.” The red one tells you, apparently she’s the leader here. “And if you ever outgrow those, you come right back and let us know, alright? Now they’re much more resilient to magical attacks, so they won’t burn up if you get hit with fire or anything like that, all good?”

You thank them and step back out, summoning the keyblade you show off a little to Zidane, “How do I look?”

“Uh huh, yeah.” He mumbles absently, occupied with watching Celes struggle to reach something on a high shelf. She’s…. bouncing a lot as she tries to reach it.

You cuff him over the head again, “Stop that.” He rubs the tender spot and grimaces at you.

“Ah come off it… not like I’m hurting anyone.” He grumbles.

“Vasi?” Yen Sid calls to you. “If you don’t mind, I have something to ask of you.” Well, this can only end well for you. You step over in front of his desk, leaning against your keyblade a little as he speaks. “As a wielder of the keyblade, it seems you have been tasked with a great task.” Amazing, “In times as dark and trying as these, it falls to keyblade warriors to travel the many worlds and set things right, despite the dangers that may come. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

A sort of… holographic image shows up in Yen Sid’s palm as he continues to speak. “Kingdom Hearts, the heart of all worlds, and that which houses so many hearts that have lost their home.” He sounds remorseful as he continues to speak “Those that are able to obtain pure hearts have the ability to summon and control Kingdom Hearts itself, and that, dear child… would lead to the end of us all.”

Growing even more serious than before, if that’s somehow possible, Yen Sid closes his palm. “To allow beings of Evil to control so many hearts, and transform, mold them as they wish, not even all the keyblade wielders through time would be able to stop them.”

“Seven are necessary, as it is an important number to the realm of light, yet there are more pure hearts that exist in the worlds than that. Certain… measures are in place shall we say, to look after some of those hearts, yet I would like for you to go on a journey to gather information and protect the others. If you were to foil the ones in charge of this darkness, there’s a chance a great many worlds could be saved, perhaps even… Radiant Garden.” He says as he leans back in his chair once more and strokes his beard.

You share one last look with Yen Sid, before you turn away. “Fear not, young Vasi, for even among wielders of the keyblade, you are less alone than you think.” He assures you.

Thankfully, you find an elevator waiting on the landing to the staircase outside, the ride downwards mostly comprised of Zidane gushing over and over again, thanking you for bringing him along with the two of you with a hard hugand Celes standing as far from the both of you as she can.
