Well, one thing is for certain.

Eiryn wasn't exaggerating about the bridge's size.

You've been crossing it for a few hours, and only now are the city walls starting to rise above you.
Moreover- The road has utterly ceased to be a dirt country road. Something like this is already at the level of a highway- Lanes in each direction, lamps along the length of it, even a separate walking path.

You can feel the first stirrings of excitement as your legs clatter across the hard stone.

If it's this size-

Then the city will be even better, won't it? And the dungeons and the temples and everything-

You clap your hands together excitedly, flexing your legs and bouncing in place.
You can't wait!

Also, first stop in the city should be the Guild to fix up the Pup. Way back during the Hydra incident we were told the larger Guilds in the cities have healers.

Once the whole gang is back on the road, we can head out on..... probably 10 or 15 things at once. We'll see. Hyperactive Spider is hyperactive.

This is a highway, they are designed to take a massive amount of abuse, hell you can probably run fucking siege engines over this bridge without a problem.

You run a checklist in your head, all the things you want to see and do and eat.
Running through it, once, twice, three times, you realize there's a minor discrepancy.

You don't know how your job actually ends, per se.

You have the general idea that once the caravan gets to where it's going your presence is no longer required, but the specifics sort of elude you.
Do you help unload? Leave at the gate? Climb on the side of the bridge so you can see the waterfalls? You hadn't realized it was a dam. Or is the whole thing a part of a lock systems?

Wait, that last one is just you. Not the job.

You chew your lip a bit, careful to avoid your fangs, and scoot up the side of the caravan with a sigh.

At least, at this time of day, the pedestrian path is empty. The bridge is built for efficiency, not space. Or spiders.

Kenzington is where he should be, though he's making a godawful mess with paper rather than tormenting his wife with his attrocious sense of humour at the moment.

He glances at you as you stroll up next to his wagon, giving you a lopsided grin and a gesture to his current work.

"Alas, Lass. You see the terrible hand of work creepin' at me."
"The only thing terrible was what you just said, yes."
"Harsh."
"Deserving."

He waves you off with a guffaw, dropping a fan of paper to his seat.
"Arright, what are you lookin' for anyway?"
You make a face, twisting your lips as you brush your hair back.

"I do not know how this ends, yes."
"Huh?"
"Guarding. When is the job done? What do I do? You do?"
"You guard things, an' I run the caravan."
>>
>>41653563
>Or she might be diving into the forest ruins to get her mind off things.
She already left the forest.
>>
>>41653563
She's probably stinger first into a dungeon with her husband right now.
>>
>>41653634
You glare.

"Yeah, yeah. We head through the gate as one big happy family, and then it's a race to get your own cart out and moving into the city before the others. And you lot- Adventurers, not the regular guards- You're all gone once we reach the corral."
"I see."
"Mm. Don't worry about it, kiddo. You'll be away and spider-deep in trouble before the sun goes down."
"I will not, yes."

He gives you a pitying look for a long moment.
"Sure, we'll go with that."

Hello! Glad to see more drawfags on this quest! It is highly deserving of them!
>>
You're halfway to leaving when you decide better of it, irritation overcoming your desire to be elsewhere.

"I do not get in trouble, yes."
"No, you find it. Or it finds you. Or you walk into it. Or cause it."
"That is... not what happens."

He laughs aloud again.
"Y'know- Sometimes, I wonder if you've gone and forgotten you're an arachne."
"It is very hard to miss being a giant spider, yes."
"Maybe. But you- You're walking trouble, you know? Every kind. Whether people're scared, or monsters are picking a fight, or whether you've gone and grown a new head overnight-"

You toss your head.
"Most people aren't scared! And I did not grow a new head. Noone grew a new head."
"A man tried to throw himself off the bridge to avoid you."
"I caught him, yes! It doesn't count!"

He waves you off with a chuckle, picking his papers up again.
"Make sure you find me when you get back to from wherever it is you're plannin' to go, kid. I've no doubt I'll get all sorts of stories- From the harpy and the moth, probably."

You turn and go with a wave goodbye, already heading past the caravan, focusing your attention on the cool breeze blowing over the river, and the fleets of boats visible on the horizon.

Anything but Kenzington's insinuations.
You will have regular adventurer stories. And regular adventurers!

And noone else will throw themselves off the bridge!

___________________________________________

Five minutes later, you're back with the caravan, walking in place once more.

You were right, at least.
Noone jumped. Just a little bit of screaming. Just the one idiot. Arachne aren't that rare! And he didn't faint from fear, he just screamed till he passed out from a lack of breath.
At least his companions laughed at him.

She is kind of high-tiered for a moth, plus trained in self-defense.
>>

There are two things in the universe that are probably infinite, empty space and stupidity.

Giant Spiders are accosted by a lack of the former due to huge butts, and everyone around them being an idiot more than half the time

We have a few choices. Secure Nin a spot on the skullbutt near permanently, assign a bodyguard, or be ultra-paranoid whenever she's out of our sights for ten minutes.

swaddle her in webbing and hide her away
>>
You pull Jin off your skull with a smooth, practised motion, hugging her to your chest and running one hand through her hair.
She wiggles sleepily, side to side, settling with a final whisper-y hoot.

Ah, even though you'd managed to get so much better about this-
You let out a breath you didn't even realize you'd been holding, enjoying the silky softness of your friend's hair, and the way her feathered tufts felt sliding through your fingers.

All the effort you'd put into resisting this sort of thing, and stress drives you right back into it again.
Headpatting is all sorts of dangerous.

You let yourself relax, closing your eyes, letting the breeze blow strands of your air across your face.
It's a beautiful day.
You're almost to the city, surrounded by friends, adventure just ahead-

Where's Nin?

Turmoil starts to boil through your chest again, and it's with great disappointment that you replace your harpy and direct your efforts to locating a certain moth shaped ball of problems.

She's nearby, which is something, you suppose.

Of course, she's perched at the edge of one wagon, facing another, a crowd of children her audience.
You struggle with the vague sense that you might not want to be able to hear whatever it is has the kids so enraptured, but you're also so very certain that leaving her here would be an irreversible mistake.

"- astride the field, cloaked in fire her spear alight as she struck down the beasts that threatened the town! The earth rumbling and roiling, each blow ferocious!"

Gods.
>>
>>41655698
"Yay! More!"
"Da says the spider people aren't real. The church made 'em up to scare people."
"Ma says they'll eat me if I don't eat my veggies. 'Cause they don't like veggies."
"I heard they've got two heads! A person one an' a spider one, and the people one's just ta fool you so the spider can gobble you up!"

Nin snorts, standing for attention- The children grow slowly quiet, facing her with gleaming eyes.
She takes a deep breath, and you snag her off the wagon before she can do something that you'll really regret.

You don't miss the fact that the children's eyes have grown as wide as saucers.

"I can't leave you alone at all, can I?"
"I was just telling stories to pass the time."
"I do not think you have 'just' done anything in your entire life, yes."

The moth giggles- and any further attempts at reprimands are cut short by a sudden and explosive bout of children questioning you.

"Are you real?" "Where's your spider face?" "Why is your butt feathery?" "I eat veggies all the time, so you can't eat me!"

You blink slowly at them, and they stare, transfixed at the sight of your six eyes.
"I am very real, yes. And I only have one face. And my butt is not feathery, that is a harpy. And I don't eat people."
"I bet it's under her shirt!" "Can I ride you?" "Me too!" "Is the story real?"

You wave them off as they jabber at you, trying to placate them as your moth giggles, escaping in your distraction, hopping behind you.

You throw a glare over your shoulder and get a moth sticking out her tongue in return before you answer.
"I have regular people bits under my shirt. And I will not show you. And I am thinking that your parents would not be okay with you riding strangers around, yes."

"And the story!" "Yeah!"
You grimace.
"It is... mostly true, yes."
"Woooow!" "I wanna be a giant spider."

Since I doubt Plainspeach has an equivalent for trains, the word would have been spoken in English.

Meaning, in this case, 'trains' and 'training' would have nothing in common.

We just used an unknown word to describe something a Giant Spider of Fire and Doom fears.

Cake has probably already shared what we said in hushed whispers with the others. Now half of them wake up with cold sweats wondering what the fuck could be so terrible.
>>
>>41656510
Huh. I completely forgot Lyra knows an unknown language here. It would be amazing for some spying/security stuff later on.
>>
>>41656595
Sadly 'English' sounds exactly like Plainspeach so no secrecy speaky.
>>
>>41656636
Not exactly, just similar enough to make learning it easier.
>>
>>41656636
Actually it sounds sort of like English, like how Dutch sounds sort of like English, spoken by a drunken German.

Has anyone ever noticed that, despite being intended to be grim derp, this quest is unarguably the second most adorable re quest, with the #1 being explicitly made to be adorable?

The QM isn't dumb. He knows that it would be a massive shitfit were grim to ever happen.
>>
>>41656761
Grimderp was intercepted by 80+ rolls in every combat encounter for the first 30 or so threads.
>>
>>41656799
This quest was supposed to originally be grim, but then we rolled too many nat 100s and good dice scores and REQM gave up and went with it.
>>
>>41656761
It wasn't intended to be grim derp, it was intended to be fairly 'realistic, in a "world is a dangerous place and actions have consequences" kind of way.
>>
We really need to find out how stupidly strong we are. Like someone else mentioned, we'll probably need to forge a stronger spear.
>>
>>41656761
Which one is the other one. Harpy or Awoo?

Lizards lost any claim when Lamb murdered poor Tail-chan
>>
>>41656761
"intended grim derp" is heavy exaggeration.

It was intended to be more bumpy road, yes, but the bumps would be just the fodder for more adorable interactions.

Basically, see Shezka getting wounded by bisons. Stuff like that was supposed to be more frequent, not "every body I know and love are DEAAAAAD"
>>
>>41656843
Maybe it's just that the consequence of powergrinding the starting area is that nothing bad happens.
>>

Train; to practice to improve skills.

Train; a vehicle that runs on metal rails.

These words happen to be the same in English. Not so in other languages. Even if Plainspeach has a word for 'vehicle that runs on metal rails' it's unlikely to be the dame as their word for 'practice to improve skills'.
>>
>>41656897
Oh please Nadia was a week old when when the actual quest started, he timeskipped the infant stage and went straight to adorable childbold.
>>
>>41656878
Thats basically the thing, REQM hasn't given up on anything, its just that Lyra spend so mjch time training and hunting, especially in pack, that the reasonable consequence is her being incredibly powerful.
There is no anti-grim fiat.
Lyra is just strong as result of spending alot of time becoming strong, and as result not much bad happens to her.
>>
>>41656897

"That is- That is not how it works, yes?"
"Why not?"

You gesture around you.
"You are humans, and I am an arachne-"
"You've got human bits, though."
"Well- Technically, I have elf bits."

"Elf bits?"
You present your ears, holding your hair back from the long points.
"Ooooh-"
"More importantly- We are all different people, yes."

The one little boy is nodding along sagely, as though he agrees with everything you said and totally isn't doing it to seem smart.
Another, though- And a girl who is surely his sister, beside him- is raising his hand, frantically stretching to stand and try and get your attention.

"Yes?"
"How do we do what you did?" "Yeah!"
"Be an adventurer, yes? Train hard, and get strong. Find friends, and work with them."
"Do we really need more people?"

You nod solemnly.
"Even I was not alone, yes? All my friends fought with me, and all the adventurers of the town as well."

You spot the gate ahead, and leaving the children with that piece of advice- Each of them attempting to claim one archetype for themselves, the siblings already having a shoving match to be the 'spider-knight'- you head for the line of guards.
You've a feeling you just caused a grand and probably decade long headache for a few parents, but it's out of your hands now.

Each wagon stops at the gate, the guards inspect papers and cards and whatnot, sometimes poking into the contents of the vehicle before waving them through.

You catch the eye of Cake, the halfling jumping up and down and waving you over- There's an adventurer line, apparently.
Guild cards are rather useful.

The soldier taking care of you is rather short. And rather bored, as well, though that doesn't last.

"Card please. Declare your-"
He stares confusedly at your legs for a solid minute, and then he rubs his eyes before looking up. And up. And up.
He maintains eye contact for a good few seconds before he looks back to your guild card.
>>
>>41657063
"That's a new one. Uh- Miss Lyra, is it?"
"Yes."
"Can I ask your purpose for your visit?"
You nod.

"Passing through, yes. I will be heading to the Elflands, to visit family. I will probably stay a week, to see the sights."
"Elflands?"
"Er- The elven isles."
"Alright. And you're coming from?"

"Oakring. The Great Forest."
"A spider straight from the spider forest? Damn. Uh- Hm."
"Yes?"
"There's- Well, there's a delegation from the southern city in town for some bloody meeting."
"Yes?"

He grimaces.
"Human supremacist types."
"Ah."
"So, uh- Well, self defence is actually completely allowed. Huh. Nevermind. If they start shit, smear 'em."

You take your card back and blink.
"Have a good day, miss."
"You too?"

Well, that's an interesting start to your visit.

This reminds me to repost REQMs Q&A from that one spooky bit because no everyone reads that one.

>Boobplate or not
It's something like interlocking plates in the chest area. It forms around her breasts, but it doesn't show off their shape or anything- A standard breastplate shape.

>Other 4th tier arachne
There's a great-great grandmother who's a 4th tier orb arachne, an Acaecesia Arachne.

>How much is spider silk worth by comparison
High quality stones tend to be excessively rare and worth more. Metal and the like is comparable- While the silk is used in fashion (which drives its price, partially) it's also coveted by adventurers- Gear made of arachne silk is tough and durable. Enchanting it and the like is common.
>>
>>41657612
REQm said it in the ask.fm.
More specifically
>The metal silk/wire/what have you isn't really clothing making material.
At least not comfortable clothing.
>>
>>41657652

>>
>>41657675

>>
>>41657675
Not in the slightest, it wouldn't snap back properly to propel an arrow. However, siege engine rope is fine.
>>
>>41657675
We don't know. Depends on how elastic it is I guess?
But if it does its probably like Elles crossbow only for giant spider level strong users.
>>
My expectation. Lyra can accept personal criticism. What she won't be able to accept is criticism of her friends.
>>
Metal string would probably still make some awesome armor. I imagine it'd be a bit like really really good chainmail.
>>
>>41657714
Strength on the draw is also dependant on the bow, so it could be a less tough one.
However that would be a waste of the string quality.

On the other hand, finding wood tough enough to match it for the full potential would be hard as well.
>>
>>41657627
>Acaecesia

You stop yourself halfway through the gate, which earns you a weird look from the guard.
"Uh- Miss Lyra?"
"Sorry- The ones behind me are adventurers too, yes."
"Behind you?"

He turns to your butt, staring at the respective balls of fur and fluff. And a waving moth.

"The harpy and the wolf are, rather. The Moth and the snake are not. Do they need to go through another gate?"
"Nah, I can mark 'em as guests... What snake?"

You raise your chin, pointing to the snoring form of Ezzy.
"Right. Names?"
"Nin!"
"The sleepy reptile is Esmerelda, yes."

He nods, making a pair of marks on a sheet next to your name.
"Uh- Did you bring the whole forest with you, or?"
"No, the wendigos didn't want to leave their woods."
"I see."
"That was a joke."

"It wasn't a joke."
"Shush, Nin."
The guard snorts, and you assist him by rousing your two passengers.

It takes Jin several tries to give her name, and pat down the harpy to find her guild card.
Sheszka is at least mostly awak, and proud to show her own card off, hanging from her collar as it is.

The guard finally waves you through with a laugh, and you're on your way.

___________________________________________

The afternoon is a blur- One mostly consisting of a gridlock of wagons all headed to the same place.
A small wagon with a broken wheel turns out to be the cause- Before it becomes an incident you simply lift the whole thing and bring it with you to the caravansary. Adventurers are already floating away- And you join them after you leave a promise with Kenzington to visit sometime.

And, of course, you get paid.
Though it hardly matters. But it makes your friends happy, and that's what counts.

The city is massive- You were ready for something medieval, but magic and the like have had a significant impact- buildings are several stories tall, magical lamps are everywhere, the streets are wide and full of all sorts of people.

You pass by halflings, dwarves and elves alike, and even a few monsters- There's some odd looking lizards that aren't trying to murder everyone, and a pair of harpies sitting on a mail post- And when one takes off with a note, you realize that are, quite literally, the mail post.

You enter the guild hall- One of several, apparently, though your guard companions promise you this one is the largest, and best able to house monsters- with a huge grin writ over your face.

You step up to the counter with a wave, one rather fit looking man growing unbearably pale and backing away from you even as a bored looking woman in a uniform takes his place.

>>41658388
I actually think we have one? Dad had one anyway. And Jin got her amulet of holding.
>>
>>41658113

It wasn't that good of an evo for an adventurer like Lyra anyway.
>>
>>41658336
Nah, we're safe because of the bath.
We took guild credit for that- So anywhere there's a guild, we've got cash.
>>
>>41658388
We probabl have the money to buy one if we don't, if not, we could take on a dungeon and come back with the money.
>>
>>41658446
Pretty sure we took a share of the income.
>>
So, from what I gather, after we use up the pay we get, we will basically saunter up to a goodies stand, put down a golden chalice, and expect them to take it as payment?

Because that's a pretty good plan.
>>
>>41658446
>We took guild credit for that
We didn't, we took the Investment option, to get a share from the income.
>>
>>41658446
I wonder if this guild needs a spider-themed bath
>>
>>41658492
>So, from what I gather, after we use up the pay we get, we will basically saunter up to a goodies stand, put down a golden chalice, and expect them to take it as payment?
No, we will find a place that deals in buying expensive items and sell our loot stash there.

>>41658506
They do. They might not know it yet, but there is no one who doesn't need a spider themed bath.
>>
>>41657998
>a pair of harpies sitting on a mail post- And when one takes off with a note, you realize that are, quite literally, the mail post

Hmmmm... this is interesting. I wonder if we could send a message to family.
>>
I can't wait until Lyra gets drunk or gets startled someplace public and her crown appears.
>>
>>41658552
Considering the crown comes with a incredibly ominous looking chitin armour and helmet, that 'might' cause a panic.
>>
>>41658552
>the crown appears whenever Lyra gets jumpscared
I need this to happen.
>>
>>41658584

The crown can manifest separately.
>>
>>41658637
>The crown can manifest separately.
Sofar we only know it stays for a while after the helmet is gone, we don't know if it can appear on its own.
>>
>>41658584

Lyra has complete control over how far the chitin armor extends, and the crown comes separately.
>>
>>41658660

It's a floating ring of fire, anon.
>>
>>41658663
>and the crown comes separately
It was clearly generated by the helmet, it can stay without, but if it can appear without we have no idea.
>>
>>41658684
>It's a floating ring of fire, anon.
That only appeared when we put on the helmet. So its clearly linked with that.
>>
>>41658701

We only tried wearing it with the helmet, anon.

And only once.
>>
>>41658714
>We only tried wearing it with the helmet
We didn't actively try to get a crown, we put on the helmet and a crown appeared together with it.
>>
>>41658733

It was part of a flavor post, we didn't actively try to put on the chitin armor until we opened the mystery box.
>>
>>41658765
I have no idea what you're trying to say or how it relates to if the crown can appear without the helmet being there first.
>>
>>41658784

I'm saying that it's fucking magic, and knowing Lyra's luck, the crown will appear whenever she uses magic, much like the fur on her arms turns into FIRE.
>>
>>41658765
>It was part of a flavor post, we didn't actively try to put on the chitin armor until we opened the mystery box.
The helmet was a seperate vote from the armour, actually.
>>
>>41658813
That seems pretty farfetched when its obvious the crown is part of the armour, having been generated from a part of it igniting and everything.
>>
>>41658813
>and knowing Lyra's luck, the crown will appear whenever she uses magic
Nah that'd be dumb if it would appear constantly like that.
Its clear its part of the Tyrants regalia.
>>
No time like the present, then.

"Hello, yes."
"Good evening, Miss. How can the guild help you today?"

The woman's expression doesn't change at all, somewhere stuck between bored and uncaring. It's a little refreshing, if you're being honest.

"Ah- My name is Lyra. I'm an adventurer, and I was told you had rooms appropriate for my, er, size."
The woman inclines her head, one hand pulling a thin pad of paper from a drawer, the other carefully dropping a pair of half-glasses onto her nose.

"Large monster rooms- Are the rest with you as well? How many?"
"Ah, yes. They're all with me, all four of them."
"Any specific dietary needs?"
"Plants, please!" Nin chips in, over your shoulder.

Your host nods once, scribbling a note onto her pad.
"How would you like to pay? We can offer you specific jobs to cover the cost, or a more traditional payment system."
"Traditional?"
"You give us money."
You snicker, and pass her your card.

"I did some work in Oakring, yes? I'm supposed to get some sort of little salary."
She raises an eyebrow, and passes a hand over the metal. It glows in response, and she nods.

"Ah, you're the one who made the bath- We actually have standing requests for more now, if you need work later. And you can pay with what you have with no problem."
You nod.
"Thank you, yes."
>>
>>41658972
You glance at the man holding his chest and gently hyperventilating behind, then back to the woman.
"Is he going to be alright?"
"Shane? Don't mind him. He's got a bit of mental scarring from an Arachne years back."
You really can't help yourself.

"A spear and... training?"
She raises an eyebrow.
"Ah. That would have been my mother, yes."

Shane clutches his shirt harder, sliding sideways of his seat to the floor.
"T-two- Two of them-"
The lady's facade cracks for just a second, a wicked grin spreading as she watches him whimpering on the floor, but it slams back into place as she faces you again.

Her eyes are definitely twinkling.

"I see. Well, there's probably a group who think themselves at Arachne standard- I'll speak to the guildmaster about adding a request for a new 'training' party."
"I have the feeling that there won't be much actual training involved, yes."
She actually smiles at you, and straight teeth or no, she reminds you far too much of a shark.
"A sudden and violent reintroduction to reality is technically training."

"I will take your word for it."
She nods pleasantly, handing you a sizeable key.
"Your room is upstairs, at the end of the hall. The one with the Arachne sized door. And feel free to ask about anything you need."
"I will, yes. Thank you!"

>It's evening. Evening means food.
>There's definitely a training ground here.
>Laze about in your room. Collect first impressions from your friends.
>Other (?)
>>
>>41658994
>"T-two- Two of them-"
Is this a good time to tell him there is a third one coming?

>There's definitely a training ground here.
>>
>>41658994
>There's definitely a training ground here.
>It's evening. Evening means food.
Snaking infront of the people training is a great first impression.
>>
>>41658994
>There's definitely a training ground here.

we need to beet mother.
>>
>>41658994
>>There's definitely a training ground here.

>It's evening. Evening means food.
>>
>>41658994
>There's definitely a training ground here.
>>
>>41658994
>There's definitely a training ground here.

Poor guy. That much training...
Is there like a medal for surviving it?
>>
>>41658994
>It's evening. Evening means food.
Let's mentally scar people tomorrow, Let's Eat!
>>
>>41658994
>>There's definitely a training ground here.
>It's evening. Evening means food.
Maybe some of the talent here are a good challenge? Or help the party work out. Or both.
>>
>>41658994
>It's evening. Evening means food.
Tourism!
>>
>>41658994
>It's evening. Evening means food.
Think we can grab something in the guild hall so we can discuss tales of adventure with our fellow nutjobs?
>>
>>41658994
>>There's definitely a training ground here.
then we go grab some food
>>
>>41658994
>>It's evening. Evening means food.
Light dinner, then training, then bath.

TRAUMA AHOY~

>Not combining
>Eating food isn't training
>>
>>41658994
>>There's definitely a training ground here.
>>
>>41659305
We should eat the training.
>>
>>41659323
The training is not to be eaten
>>
>>41659338

What about the trainees?
>>
>>41659323
We will feed on ego's and dreams
>>
>>41659357
Only if they offer themselves up as sacrifice to the spider queen.
>>
>>41659357
Not enough meat to be worth the trouble pelling them out of the padding.
>>
>>41659383
Wrap them and drain them, no cloth removal needed. Actually we could win a bet like that, say we can eat a pig in one bite, make it so the only bite we need is the one we take to inject it with venom.
>>
>>41659431
I'm not sure anyone would doubt we can eat a pig in one bite. Make it a cow maybe. Or a bear.
>>
>>41659471
Bear, always a bear. a bigger bear. a biggerest bear
>>
>>41659496
I wonder if they have huge bears in those dungeons.

We should ask people if the things there being generated with magic means they don't nourish you or something.
>>
>>41658994
>walk up to Shane
"I am so sorry."
>>
>>41659720
>walk up to him, grab him by the shoulders and nod solemn
"I know your pain".
>>
A short jaunt up the stairs sees you stashing your worldly belongings in your home for the next week or so.

And after that-
After that, you head back downstairs, and kindly inquire about the location of the training room.
The secretary, or whatever she is, is smiling when she sends you down another hallway.

She looks like she eats dragons.

You slip through a door, and out into a rather large space-
It isn't a room, not really. There's stairs leading down to a massive area, miniature arenas, a shining dome over everything- You wonder if it keeps the weather out, or if it's to conceal what goes on inside. Huh.

Your friends are gently encouraged to hop free of your skull- Sheszka curls up in a corner, with Nin wearing your resident snake, and Jin perched on a fence.

You pick up a training spear, and start running through your forms.

The trip helped a bit, you have to say. You're getting back into the swing of it, movements turning natural, automatic once more. All the instincts your mother pounded into your muscles come to the forefront, and you're mindlessly running through a routine, swinging, stabbing, stepping.

It's refreshing. The push and pull of muscles, the slow build of sweat, the narrowing of your world to breathes and your own heartbeat.

You barely even register someone calling out to you, standing at the edge of your circle of sand.
Several someones.

"Hey! Uh, Spider!"
You turn, arms dropping, the spear held low and ready.
"It is Lyra, yes."
"Lyra. Hi. You up for a little spar?"
>>
>>41659841
Your grin is enough that people lean back a little, worry working into their expressions.
"I think I would like that very much, yes. Will you go one after another?"
"Uh- Sure? You don't want a break, or nothing?"
"Oh, no. This way is fine, yes."

He nods, stepping into the circle with a buckler and a large sword in hand.
"Gotta say- Thanks, ya know? We don't get too many monsters in training, so it's a big help."
You incline your head with a smile.
"I will accept your thanks now, yes? I do not think I will get it later."
"Uh. Sure?"

Someone rings a bell, and it starts.

The young man isn't unskilled. He steps quickly, shield up and angled, eyes focussed.
But- He isn't your mother. Or Aria. Or Lann, or Sheszka.
Two pokes knocks him backwards, and a strike downwards gets between sword and shield, planting him firmly on his back, wheezing.

And the bell rings again.

And again, and again, and again. Until the sweat is in your eyes, and your arms are starting to feel heavy, and your face hurts from how hard you've been smiling.
Horns or not, you're definitely your mother's child.

You wave thanks to the flattened and unmoving crowd you've left strewn throughout the training grounds, dumping a bucket of water over your head before you head back inside.
You don't even remember dinner, just the feeling of lying facefirst on your unbelievably soft bed- more a wooden frame with a nest of blankets in it- the serenity of it enveloping you as you drift to sleep.

_________________________________________________________

You awake to a sedate sort of knocking, buried in a pile of snoring, drooling monsters.

Nin is simply lying across your back, Jin and Sheszka have burrowed into the nest under your arms, and Ezzy is... on top of your head?
You don't really recall how the hell you ended up like this.
>>
>>41659841
>Nin wearing your resident snake
Ohhh nooo, what dusts will cover her when she returns.
>>
>>41659865
The knock comes again, and you pick yourself up with a groan, balancing snake and moth as you head for the door, well oiled hinges swinging open without a sound.

The secretary is there again, glasses perched on her face, shuffling a few papers around.
She looks up as you yawn, blinking tears from your eyes.

"Good morning, Miss Lyra."
"'Morning, yes."
"Mmm. You have my- and the guildmasters appreciation for your efforts last night."
"Last night? It was just sparring, yes. I am out of practice."

Is this woman even human? That smile is feral. Criminal.
"As it may be- Your 'sparring' tripled the attendance for training and lessons payments."
"Oh. That is nice."
"Ah- Of course, that is not what I'm here for."
"No?"

"No, no. I apologize about the hour, but it was a rather urgent delivery- A request from the Archduke himself, for your presence at the palace. There's a carriage- Well, a wagon really- waiting for you as we speak."
What.

What?

No.

Nin, no.

Nin, stop.
>>
>>41659875
It's a dream. right?
>>
>>41659875
nin cannot be stopped

nin could never be stopped
>>
>>41659875
And tragically, it has to end here tonight.

I have a day off thursday, so We'll continue then!

As usual, comments, questions and concerns answered in thread!
>>
>>41659907
Good end, both in terms of content and timing. Thanks for running REQM, it was fun!
>>
>>41659907
welllll shit.
See you next time I guess.
Let's bust out the FRILLY DRESS
>>
>>41659907
I'm starting to get slightly irritated at your choice of cliffhangers.
>>
Thanks for running!

Also I am definitely against Lyra getting in the wagon, she can walk. She has 8 legs
>>
>>41659928
Why get the frilly dress? why not wear the Tyrants regalia, with the Tabard(?)
>>
>>41659907
Thanks for running.

I'm just waiting for the time the secretary comes to spar and shows she's a veteran adventurer and badass.
>>
>>41659960
because we're going to court, apparently.
Not some battle zone.
>>
>>41659875
Nin.
Niiiiiin.
What did you DOOOOOOOO.
>>
>>41659988
The archduke want's a giant spider, not a Lady. hopefully.
>>
>>41659927
>>41659933
>>41659964
Thanks for playing!

>>41659928
See you soon!

>>41659929
I'm not sure if that means I'm doing it right or wrong-
Though I suppose recent threads have had more cliffhangers than ever before. It wasn't something I used early on.

>>41659991
All Moth-Blaming. It's time to face the mirror, Lyra.
You aren't innocent in this!
>>
Honestly, I don't think it's because of Nin. There are any number of reasons someone might want an Arachnae's help. Mostly violent ones, yes, but still.
>>
>>41660011
I think he wants a giant spider lady.
Obviously we need a frilly tyrant regalia.
>>
>>41659988
Why appear as something we're not? Lyra is a warrior and leader, she should appear as one.
>>
>>41659875
Thanks for the run.

Hehe Nin. Why do you do this? I mean I know why. Just... Why?
>>
>>41659960
Would it even fit? we did evolve and grow a little.
>>
>>41659988
A royal court is always a battlefield
>>
>>41660029
Thanks for the run tonight REQM! Also Lyra is totally innocent in this, after all she's just your everyday giant spider person who's mother is probably one of the most well known adventurers on this side of the country, yes.
>>
>>41659875
>Nin, no.
>Nin, stop.
We need a version of this picture with Lyra and Nin.
>No, Nin, stop!
>It's too late, Lyra. It was always too late.
>>
>>41660093
That's a colorful metaphor and you know it.
>>
>>41660057
Good question

>>41660029
Did we outgrow the dress?
>>
>>41660042
Thanks for playing!

>>41660107
Of course she is.

>>41660122
Your clothes still fit- They were made for your grave arachne for, and tagging on a few inches of height just means the dress is a bit shorter.
>>
>>41660119
CK2 for life
>>
>>41660186
Oh god. We are being invited into the endless tourney!
>>
>>41660201
Beware the noble with an open hand
>>
>>41660175
>Your clothes still fit- They were made for your grave arachne for, and tagging on a few inches of height just means the dress is a bit shorter.
How scandalous!
>>
Can we even fit into the carriage?
>>
>>41660754
It's a wagon.
>>
>>41660175
Thank for thread. Was called away to end zombie hordes.
>>
>>41661268
Lizards when?
>>
>>41660175
Thanks for running!
