It's been a couple hours.

Everything still hurts, but not as much. You've been carried up to what's left of Tianna Castle. The room that used to be yours is basically a pile of loose masonry and rubble now, but you've been helped to a small bedroom in the servants' wing, which is still partially intact.

It isn't just the wounds: you feel utterly drained, mentally and physically. Your entire body is jittery, like it refuses to acknowledge that the battle is over. That you can relax.

It's a weird feeling of restlessness. Like you still need to go somewhere and do something.

From your room's window, in the distance, you can see the mountains in the centre of Tianna have changed. They're taller. Rougher. Cracks filled with still-glowing magma rapidly cooling. The geography has changed. Fortunately, the rest of the island only experienced a brief earthquake when the Titan tried to lift off. It still caused some damage, but it could've been a lot worse.

It's what everyone said. A lot of things could have been a lot worse.

They could have been a lot better, too. You couldn't save Tyrant. Instead, she saved you. You couldn't deal the finishing blow to the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water yourself.

...You really wanted the Unconquered Sun to see that. For the entire battle, despite being thousands of meters underground and at night, you had the feeling he was watching you.

Now, it's morning, at long last.

The door suddenly opens, and Amatas enter the room, followed by Regis (no longer in his armor, but in his usual butler outfit) and Millian, pushing a tray with tea and biscuits.

"...Amata." You mumble, not sure how to handle this. She doesn't seem any different from the Amata you've known all these years, but...

She smiles at you, gesturing at your two servants to leave the room. They do so, leaving the breakfast behind, but they di linger for a moment, shooting one last worried look at you. Concerned about your wounds, or... They sensed your unease, maybe? "You must have a lot of questions, Maka."

Oh boy. Why does she look like she's enjoying this so much? She pulls up a chair and sits next to you, wkithout letting go of her disarming smile for even one second.

Were her eyes always this blue?

>...You're not a Dragon-Blooded. Mind explaining?
>Who are you and what did you do with Amata?
>Who was that green-eyed woman? Is she still around?
>I've... never seen that style of martial arts. How did you DO that?
>I do. I hope you're actually going to give me answers this time.
>So... the jig is up? No more secrets? You're going to tell me everything?

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, and have a powerful Manse under construction.
But Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress built in an ancient, forgotten age, and although this is kept secret, two Deathlords are seeking to obtain it.
The Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine, ghost of your past incarnation, seeked it as a weapon to cut her ties to the Neverborn. But you have persuaded her to try and seek redemption in the eyes of the Sun in other ways, and count her as an unlikely ally.
But now the Silver Prince is coming, to punish her and claim the Titan for himself in the name of Oblivion. And this looks like a battle you won't be able to talk your way out of...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Last thread was actually surprisingly inspiring for me, all things considered. I'll admit I was upset at first that it didn't end up as I expected, but that actually gave me a lot of new ideas.

Nothing like your players surprising you (for good or for ill) to get you to rethink and re-evaluate yourself as a GM, I guess.
>>
>>41704393
Nothing like failing to make you see what you hadn't before

We're going to have to make it up to Senpai for that too, I'm sure he's just as disappointed as we are, if not more so.
>>
>>41704365
Not even the Aegis of the Sun Unconquered could save her from that fate.

>>41704393
I think the biggest lesson after the last thread was that Adamant Skin Technique does not equal "utterly impervious to danger".

That's the trap I personally fell for in the final battle vs the Bod.
>>
>>41704292
What kind of casualties are there? I know on our side we lost Tyrant and Flow, but how did Silver Prince's forces go?

Speaking of Tyrant, we're going to have to apologize to the Abyssals
>>
>>41704274
You know, before I've ever entered these threads I thought the woman in the OP was a gender bent Pegasus (YuGiOh) with delicious brown skin.
>>
>>41704440
If any of the Abyssals are still alive. Tyrant came to Tianna castle alone it seemed.

As for the rest we probably lost close to 2/3rds of all the mortal soldiers we mustered for the defense.

The prince's forces got worked. If Ebon Siaka and the King survived the first fight then they would be forced to contend with essence artillery, a dawn solar, two lunars, and umpteen hundred mortal soldiers, Moray is going to have turned his back on the Prince and his bullshit permanently, and the prince lost what we can safely assume to be a sizeable portion of his FUCKTHEWORLD fleet from Island Five.

The prince also presumably lost a significant number of abyssal exalted. The Herald got face fisted by Tia, the walker got piledriven by Tia, the knight of ghosts and shadows was probably taken down by somebody.

Also the Bod himself got annihilated.

So all things considered, even though we stumbled in the final stretch we actually beat the forces of Skullstone and the Bod really really badly.

Huh, never thought of that. In any case, if you're new, welcome to Exalted Quest!

(combining an OOC reply with an actual post because the actual post is really short, but I think it's a question you'll want to answer to)

"So... the jig is up?" You look up at her, hopeful. "No more secrets? You're going to tell me everything?"

She smiles a knowing smile and leans closer. "If I told you "yes", would you believe me?"

"Yes." You nod, without hesitation.

"You're adorable." She sneaks a kiss on your cheek. "You really are my weak point."

You five her a funny look. What does that mean?

"You're right, of course. I'm not going to lie to you any longer. I promise. But... that doesn't mean I'm going to tell you everything."

"How delightfully cryptic." You roll your eyes in exaggerated annoyance. "Explain."

"...Let me put it in a way you'll understand." She thinks about it a second. "I'm a secret agent."

Maybe she was expecting you to react with surprise to that statement, but you're too tired to. You simply nod for her to continue.

"I work for the most secret organization in the world. Our job is... to protect Creation from its many enemies. By any means. It's called the Five-Score Fellowship. And it's based in Heaven, and headed by the Five Maidens of Destiny."

Alright, THAT got a reaction out of you. "...You mean the City of Heaven?"

She nods. "Yes. Yes, I mean Yu Shan. No, I never met the Unconquered Sun in person. Yes, I have a house there. No, you can't come over. Sorry." She intercepts your next questions with quasi-telepathic accuracy.

You sigh. "...You're not a Dragon-Blooded."

"No. No, I'm not. I'm a Celestial Exalted like yourself and Tia, though I'm neither a Lunar nor a Solar."

"...There are other types of Celestial Exalted?" You're away out of your depth here.

"Secret organization, remember." She winks. "Call us... Sidereals. Out of the Five Maidens, I was Exalted by Venus, the Maiden of Serenity."

It makes sense. Things click together in your head. You had a dim memory in your head, about this. From the... time before.

"Lotus was actually one of us. Under deep cover. I can't go into details, but she helped stack the odds a bit more in our favor before the battle."

"She did attack us, though." You reply.

(cont.)
>>
"Auto-hypnotism. At that moment, she was honestly convinced she was on the Bodhisattva's side. The phrase I told her was the password to snap her out of it."

You slowly nod. "So... you're the ones who hid the Titan?"

"My organization, yes. We had to make sure that no one could discover it." She grins. "Until the situation degenerated, and we had to let you discover it because... Well, I decided that letting you find it would have been the lesser evil." She giggles. "Now the cat's out of the bag, I guess."

"...Does this mean Samiel and Irene are adopted?" You wonder.

She nods. "...Yes. They don't know. But I'll have to explain things to them, now. To come out clean. They were both lost eggs. Assigned to me while still infants, as part of the ruse. A Dragon-Blooded ruler should have children with a fair chance at Exalting, after all."

She looks at you, and frets a bit, standing up. "...O-of course I still loved them as if they were my actual children-"

"Yes, I don't doubt that." You reply. "So... your previous marriage...-"

"Oh, part of the cover story." She nods. "Was that what worried you?"

"...I was just curious. You've lived your cover story for so long..."

"When I said I'm a secret agent, I wasn't kidding." She sits on the edge of the bed. "And I take my job very seriously. So... I might not lie to you, but there are still a lot of secrets I have to keep from you. No matter how much I trust you: I'm simply not allowed to.

"...I understand." You nod. "...What happened to our Abyssals?"

"I know that a few of them are in the Titan. They already know what happened." She looks down. "They didn't take it well. Especially Fleurdelis. I think the other understand what happened, but she's... distraught.

Agreed.
Sooner or later we're going to give our victory speech, and walking up in front of everyone half-dead is got going to be good for morale.
Maybe leave a few injuries though, remind everybody that we lead from the front.
>>
>>41704952
Leaving injuries is for people with something to prove. We don't. There's no need to remind people when a thousand people saw us lead from the front.
>>
>>41704966
And due to the fact that most of the people who saw us lead from the front were ON the front, a great many of them are now dead.

In the eyes of their widows are children gazing out at the rubble of their city, we certainly do have some things to prove. First on the list is "Was it worth it?"
>>
[BODY-MENDING MEDITATION]

You sigh deeply. "...What's the situation? The damage? ...Casualties?"

"...Still counting." She admits. "The palace is completely wrecked, as I'm sure you've noticed. Tianna City suffered a lot of damage, but fortunately the outlying villages were mostly spared. As far as we heard, Pearl is in much better shape, though it'll still need some repairs. Administratively, I think it makes sense at this point to move the capital over to Pearl at this point."

She makes a brief pause. "...Military losses are about 2500. That's... about half of the men we started with. As for civilian casualties... around two thousand. About half caused by the battle, half by the earthquake. Disaster relief is in progress. The reason you don't see Tia here is that, by the way. She wanted to stay by your side all the time, but we managed to explain to her that you'd be sad if you found out that she didn't help."

How delightfully manipulative. But well, it's for a very good reason. And the people out there buried under tons of rubble need someone who can lift buildings with one hand more than you do right now.

"We didn't lose a single Exalted, and that's a miracle. But a lot of them are wounded, some very seriously, and some don't heal as fast as you or the Lunars. It'll be a while before we're back to full strength."

She's probably talking about herself as well here: she's clearly badly beat up, with cuts and bruises all over, though they have had make up applied to them to be less noticeable.

"What about the Skullstonians?"

(cont.)
>>
>>41705013
>Skullstonians
That sounds like something out of the Flintstones.

Or He-Man.
>>
"Their armed forces were almost completely annihilated. Ghosts are dispersed or banished, and the few lingering ones are being hunted down. The mortals... mostly killed or captured. When word went around that the Bodhisattva had been killed, it completely crushed their morale. Many committed suicide, others surrendered. A few are still hiding around, but I don't think they'll be much of a threat beyond a bit of sabotage. We'll get them, eventually."

"As for their assets?"

"Five ships or so fled. We captured three almost intact. All the others have sunk or are destroyed or completely wrecked, though maybe there are some salvageable parts. Same for the Warstriders, most are smashed, but we have a few nearly intact. Adding that to, well, captured weapons, technology, Vodak armored suits, and the fact that we have Zaan, Irene and Valeriana at work right now, since they weren't wounded... and I'd say that we've got a frankly amazing war booty. Our usual problem, the small number of Manses, will keep us from making full use of the heaviest stuff, but... well, we'll talk about this when we plan for the future." She grins enigmatically.

"...Their Exalted?" You finally ask.

"Karas killed Ebon Siaka in Pearl. After you knocked her into the ocean, she came back. There was one heck of a fight, but in the end he took her out. While all that was going on, though, the King of Uncloaked Steel escaped on one of the surviving Skullstonian ships."

"...That's bad." You mumble.

"I don't know. Depends if he's the kind of person who holds a grudge." Amata replies. "Their Daybreak, Herald of the Treshold, is also dead. We found his body in the Titan, or what's left of it. After Tia was done with him, it looked more like a soft ragdoll. I and Radiant Starfall killed the Midnight, Lady in the Untold Depths."

"The one with the white dress?"

"Yep. Knight of Ghosts and Shadows, however, has disappeared. I've got Starfall looking for him, but I think he left the island by now."

"How's Darktide?"

"Fainted from all the wounds, and probably some shock. He'll be alright, he just needs a day or two. Mikahil's about as badly wounded with him, but Five's taking care of him."

"I see."

You rest your mind a bit. Amata stays silent, and you just spend a few minutes next to each other. You reach for her hand, and she lets you hold it.

"...Why can't I visit Yu Shan?" You ask her, serious.

"I'm not even allowed to tell you why I'm not allowed to tell you." She smiles.

"Come on." You're not joking, and she soon realizes this. "...I want to meet Him. I... I need to."

"...I can imagine. But... let me put things this way: Many of the things I'm doing are not making me very popular with the Fellowship. Both the results and the methods. To say nothing about marrying you."

You nod.

"These people could very well have me arrested and sent to jail in Heaven if they wanted, and believe me, they do. I had to make... promises, let's say. One of them was that I'd keep you out of Heaven for now."

You can't help but smile at the thought. "They must be terrified of me."

(cont.)
>>
"You have no idea." she replies, a bit amused herself. "To many of them, you're the most dangerous thing ever. More than the Deathlords. Maybe even more than the Yozi."

"Really?"

"Well, that's what they believe. So... please. Work with me on this. I can't let you visit Yu Shan just yet. One day we will, I promise. But until that day comes... I need you to not talk about this to anyone."

Five incisions, plus those replacements that were still hanging on the wall.

We can probably take those down and melt them for gold, but the others we might want to keep.

If we really want to talk to UCS we could use the Primordial War ones as a prayer sacrifice to talk to him.

This this this.

Well, Maka's reaction at least proved that Amata's threat to Chejop Kejak was a good one.

I feel really guilty about Mikahil's wounds, though. We need to check in on him and apologize.

On a related note, I want to preemptively vote on repurchasing Final Ray of Light. Hopefully we go a longass time before needing it again, but we've already seen first-hand how useful an extra life in our back pocket is.

Ask about our fucking babies.

We may know out-of-character that they're probably fine, but Maka should be worried as fuck about them right now.

How was that not the first shit out of our mouth?
>>
>>41705577
>Ask about our fucking babies.
Shit, yes this.
>>
>>41705516
Agreed. The replacements aren't particularly worth keeping, but the originals are.

I say we bring them all to Pearl and make a smallish, dedicated shrine for each of them along the walls of the entrance hall, with UCS's portrait in a freestanding one towards the center, with decorations cast from the gold melted down from the replacement panels.
It seems fitting that the ornaments intended to replace his image be made instead into icons praising him.

Yeah, so that we can go and throw it away and ruin an incredibly dramatic moment. Only slightly salty now, but still salty.
>>
>>41705596
It's not a bad idea honestly, UCS is still a god and a sacrifice given to him especially at a temple manse dedicated to him is a huge thing, especially since we fucked up the final boss fight it would go a long way to get in contact with him.
>>
"...Can at least Tia know?"

She rolls her eyes. "I knew you were going to ask me that... but, well, Tia isn't really the talkative type, so I think she can keep the secret. Better than you for sure."

"That's mean." You complain. "...And, I need to go back in the Titan and talk to Flame."

"No one has seen her since the fight." She sighs. "Samiel wanted to see her too. He things something weird's up with her, and he might be right."

"I'll pick him up. Where can I find him?"

"Leading the relief efforts in the city, but tell him he can go with you. I'll put Irene in charge there. They need some rotation anyway, and I want to be sure Flame's not about to go ballistic or anything." She sighs tiredly. "Damn gods. I told you that she was going to be a handful since day one."

"Wait." You just realized. "So the reason you've always hated and mistrusted gods is the fact that your work-"

"Stand up and get to work." She pulls you upright by your hand. "YOUR job is to cheer people up right now."

"...Yes." You can't fault that reasoning.

Amata leans in for a kiss, then leaves, leaving you possibly even more confused than you were when you started the conversation.

Heaven? Secret fellowships of mysterious Celestial Exalted? What the hell.

You calmly have breakfast with he tea and biscuits that Millian prepared, feeling like you really needed that. Your body hurts all over, but finally having something in your stomach is soothing.

And yet, for all the damage you suffered, the only wounds you have are the ones caused by the fire breath emanating from the Dragonkaiser's fist. All the wounds you suffered up to that point, your crushed neck, Howler in Darkness stabbing into your stomach... gone. Not a sign, not a scratch.

You nearly died, and was brought back. Was that your own Exaltation refusing to die, or was it actually the Unconquered Sun stepping in in person? It felt like it was a bit of both.

We need to be really careful, lest we get killed again by jumping in to protect our allies...

We need to get more tanky.

We should look into upgrading our gloves and heels, I bet Val could make them give us a good defense bonus, maybe look into some defensive hearthstones from the water temple we intend to build.
>>
>>41705706
>We need to get more tanky.
I don't think it's physically possible for us to get more tanky, save by increasing Physical and buying more Ox Bodies.

What we need is to get more fighty. We need to max Physical and Dawn, and start picking up a few more combat charms to further increase our survivability.

But that can wait, especially until we've repurchased Final Ray of Light.
>>
...You have to wonder. Zaan told you that your Gift of Exaltation would protect your babies just like yourself, up until they're born. You're at no risk of miscarriage from illness, accident or violence. He said your delivery will be perfect and healthy and that your pregnancy will not show or impede you in the least up until the very final days.

But are they really alright, after all that they've been through?

How would you know? You answer yourself. You probably need someone checking up on you, and Zaan, the one person you know to have extensive medical knowledge, is in Pearl right now...

>Trust Zaan's word. They're surely alright. Your wounds are external anyway, and already healing.

We also need to launch a propaganda counterstrike against Skullstone. We just decapitated them, and we have both a Solar and a bunch of soldiers who know the truth.

We can DESTROY everything that the Prince has built up, so that by the time a year and a day passes, all of his groundwork will have been undone.

This is vital and urgent, because otherwise he'll come and push our faces in again in a year's time.

...No, there are people a lot more fragile than you who need expert medical help a lot more than you do. You'll have to wait.

But... you feel like they should be fine.

You finish breakfast, pick a dress to put on, and head out to meet Samiel along the way. Apparently he had been warned by Amata already and was heading over to meet you.

He looks quite exhausted, covered in dust sticking to his sweat, but he puts on a brave face.

"...Hey, Maka." He greets you, oddly hesitating. "I was just coming to see you. Mom told me you were going to see Flame. I want to come with you." He looks away. "...I would've gone earlier, but we're marshaling all our remaining troop strength to help with the earthquake."

"Yeah, she told me." You reply, noticing he's avoiding your gaze. "I think Flame will be in the Reactor core ruins."

"Yeah. The whole place powered down and even the volcano erupted and then went cold. If there's any fire left, it's down there. Man... the light of Judgement sure was awesome."

You bite your lower lip. "I'm sorry I missed that."

Awkward silence ensues as you climb and jump down the wreckage leading into the belly of the broken Titan.

Try, like, a minute and a half. We exchanged a couple sentences, had a very brief exchange of combat, woke up, and then our people showed up, with Dragonkaiser as the vanguard.

"...First of all, don't worry for me. I'm fine." You reassure him. "But most of all... You did the right thing. You shouldn't think of yourself like this. Even if I had died there, it would have STILL been the right thing. Stopping the Bodhisattva at that point was more important than anything else."

"...I know." He nods. "I... I just don't know if I would've been able to live with it."

You can't help but think of Amata.

"...Sometimes you might need to do something you hate because it's the right thing to do." You ponder. "Sometimes, it might even be to hurt someone you love. Knowing it's the right thing to do won't make it any less painful, but, at the same time, it being painful is not a good excuse for doing it."

He nods again. "I understand."

You've reached the reactor. The place is even worse of a wreck than you remember. The damage is indescribable. Only the pillar of light and machinery towering in the Titan's heart is still intact.

You hear a faint sobbing noise coming from a corner. Moving in closer to check, you notice... Fleurdelis, huddled in the now-empty crater in which the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine was crushed and killed. She doesn't seem to have noticed you at all.

Are you asking us, the readers? Yes, by the way EF talked about it and how Maka felt after, we set her free with our touch of gentle repose. It also probably had something to do with her actions, which made it likely to free and guard her soul from the Neverborn. In a way, she did redeem herself.
>>
You step closer. It's always hard to know what to tell in these situations.

She lifts her eyes from the ground and looks up to you, expressionless. Her eyes are filled with tears, and her face is a mess of ruined makeup.

"...She saved us all." You say.

"...WELL YOU DIDN'T DESERVE IT!" She replies in a hoarse scream, suddenly standing up and throwing you a drunken, wayward punch.

There's no Charms or Essence behind it, no technique. She doesn't really want to hurt you. She's just venting anger. Acting on instinct, you narrowly dodge the first blow, but then others come.

Well the trick there is how one defines "fighting someone serious". We tangoed with a couple of Abyssals and came out alright, but then those don't get counted as being "someone serious". The last two times we got thoroughly blown up were, to my recollection, a world-class elder Dragon-Blood martial artist, and a godsdamn Deathlord. Those are opponents where it's not too surprising that we'd take a beating.
>>
>>41706655

>>

There is also the lintha admiral and the murdering heart ship. First time Maka reached 0 HP.

The Abyssals were holding back. We got completely killed by Lintha and got our ass handed to us twice by a Deathlord who'd been fighting all day.

Again, I fail to see Maka's competence here.

We got "completely killed" by Tia dropping a boat on our head. We were doing fine against the Lintha.
>>
>>41706720
What the fuck are you talking about "The Abyssals were holding back".

It was a full scale war. The abyssals on the beach were there to KILL us. We beat the king by blindsiding him with five tails and Siaka by going 3v1 with tia and karas.
>>
>>41706655
And while combat is our secondary focus, that still doesn't make us a combat-focused Dawn. We were really under-prepared for fighting them one on one, and I think the smartest thing Maka did last thread was tell Tia and Amata to pull back.

The Deathlord hadn't been fighting goddamn at all. The Tyrant has been fighting all day. The Silver Prince was at full motes and health.

We showed up with 6 Health and most of our motes missing.

Shut the fuck up already, you stupid, obnoxious faggot.
>>

Aside from the fact we were basically dead and just got grappled by the Lintha head honcho and were almost going to die from her?

You know, a freaking Solar exalted doing fine against some Lintha really isn't saying much. They're barely better than mortals, even with their freaky demon-blood magics.

There is no need to have to be able to do everything ourselves. We need to learn that when someone says "get out of the way Maka" they mean "I'm about to AoE the area you're in

It's not saying anything, in fact. Because once again, it was Tia who fucked us up in that fight.

>The Silver Prince was at full motes and health.
Despite fighting a dozen exalts in a row. Sure.

>We showed up with 6 Health and most of our motes missing.

>>
>>41706769
Maybe we should stop throwing ourselves into combat situations without backup
>>
>>41706720
The Abyssals weren't holding back, and we were doing okay against the Lintha until that friendly fire incident. It doesn't excuse going one on one with a Deathlord though, that more then anything that is where our incompetence lied. It doesn't matter that he was a bit tired from fighting, a Deathlord was still way above our weight class and there were people armed and willing to fight him that were better suited to fighting him.
>>
>>41706783
>Maybe we should stop going into combat
fixed that for you.
>>
>>41706777
Considering we're always the first into a fight, yes we really do need to learn how to fight properly.

>>
>>41706782
>Despite fighting a dozen exalts in a row.
Which he didn't do. His soldiers did.

>And then we came back and got completely flattened again.
Because we charged straight back into a three-on-one fight against him, Flame, AND a Dawn.

It's a miracle we survived doing something that fucking retarded.
>>
>>41706783
Then we would have lost against the Lintha, and Tianna would have ceased to exist and the titan would have fired its lazor.

We cannot afford to wait in these situations where we need backup to not get flattened.
>>

I would like to reiterate my push for Arms of the Unconquered Sun Style.

[p+z=7 3 8 9 7 3 7 9 2 = 6 successes]

You let her hit you. Even with your wounds, even without any particular investment in your charms, you can easily take this punishment. But she needs to give it.

She needs something to blame and to rage against.

When she's done, her anger vented, her strength exhausted, you hug her.

"I'm sorry, Fleurdelis. I wish I could have done more."

She doesn't reply. She just sobs softly in your arms.

"She saved us. And, in the end... I think she died like she wanted to. In the same place she died the first time, but this time..."

She interrupts you, squeezing you harder. "The voices. Without her... She couldn't kill the voices. You didn't let her."

You stroke her hair gently. "It could never have worked. She knew that too. She just... couldn't see another way of doing it. She was desperate. But I think that she settled... for doing what she could do."

She grabs you by the shoulders and pushes you back, at arm's length, and stares straight into your eyes. A wild stare, filled with madness.

"She's DEAD. She's DEAD AND GONE. BEYOND DEATH."

"Y-yes..."

"Now it's up to YOU. YOU must kill the voices. You must take up her quest. Find a way. Or one day, both our worlds will be devoured. Promise me."

Hell, even other Dragon Bloods do a decent job at predicting it, what with it being breeding-related and all. It's not perfect, but mostly functional.

Let's not forget that Amata does have other kids who just never get any screentime because they're not Exalts.

I'd also like to point out that we did get Dawn 4 two threads ago, which not only means we'll be a bit better in all kinds of combat, it'll open up some better charms. So we ARE working towards fixing that weakness.

Ok, it's obvious we need to change our combat style. Either A. We focus on beefing up to the point where we can handle ourselves in MOST fights (it's going to be impossible for us to do that for every fight)

Man, I don't know how the cosmology works, but if it was impossible to nuke his soul straight back to his Neverborn masters EF would've confirmed it. He could really be dead dead, and the Light of Judgement basically nuked any and all part of the Silver Prince out of existence like something out of Wheel of Time.

>>
You know, even if the Prince was killed, it means the Neverborn are down a dead third circle since one was fused to every Deathlord, right? Wouldn't they get a new one as a consequence? That might be a way to check if he's really dead.
>>
You can't let her get away in this situation. Flame will have to wait.

Probably leaving Samiel a bit confused, you leap up to chase her. The two of you jump in easy leaps of several dozen meters, bouncing off the metallic, stone and masonry wreckage along the path between the Titan and the surface, and, finally, you catch her as she reaches the ruins of the palace.

You grab her by her dress, and she flails to escape your grasp, clumsily. "No! Let me go!"

"Where are you even going?" You ask back at her.

She calms down. "...I don't know." She turns to face you. "...What should I do?"

If the Neverborn could do that, then they would've just regenerated a circle of their souls, then they likely wouldn't be in the predicament their in. The problem is that killing them doesn't have an effect. They're already dead, and unable to reincarnate. If you kill their already-dead subsoul, it just remains already-dead.

well, if, IF the Prince and every trace of his soul could be melted down into unrecognizable slag, it's theoretically possibly to chip or erode the Neverborn's subsouls away

Hypothetically, anon. Hypothetically. Don't misuse words.

"...For now, stay with your Abyssal comrades. You're a circle. They need you and you need them." You reply.

"...They don't need me. I'm dangerous. ...The voices tell me to kill. Sometimes, I do what they say, to keep them... silent."

"...All the more reason to be with them. They can help you. Watch over you. Acting alone accomplishes nothing." You point out.

She falls silent, and remains so for a few good minutes. "...Yes." She finally says, barely a whisper.

What happened to the proud, haughty Fleurdelis who assaulted Tianna by ramming it with a flying ship when you Exalted? The poor woman in front of you is just a broken wreck.

Meekly, she walks away, towards Pearl and the Dark Omen.

"...Will you be alright?" You ask her as she walks away.

She doesn't reply, and keeps walking amidst the rubble.

They can't be killed because they're already backwards reverse super inside-out undead

When they made Creation, they didn't make any clause that handled their own death, so when they did actually die to the hands of the Gods and Solars, stuff went all fucked up.
>>
>>41707509
Primordals are big enough to have multiple souls. Neverborn are dead Primordals, and they still have multiple souls. To make the Deathlords, they took a soul and glued it to the ghost of a Solar.

okay, so the Neverborn were once Primordials, makers of Creation. They then made Gods, and made the Gods do their work for them by putting them under a magical geas that makes it impossible for a God to turn against them.

Gods decided 'fuck that', and found a loop hole in Exalted. The Exalted killed and imprisoned the Primordials and life went on... except, well, when you're a being as massive as a Primordial and one of the people who actually created the reincarnation process it was hard for Creation to scrub the Primordials away. It was something Creation was never designed to do. Before Exalted, no one knew a Primordial could be killed.

So now we got these... massive constructs of dead essence, remnants of the Primordials that were, sitting in the afterlife and corrupting the afterlife.

well, in this hypothetical where we confirmed we wiped away the Silver Prince, then in this hypothetical it would be theoretically possible to do the same to the Neverborn. That's what I meant.

>>
>>41707620
Sure. If we hypothetically did wipe out the Silver Prince, and if that hypothetically destroyed the bit of the Neverborn imbued in him, then we could theoretically chip away at the Neverborn that way.

Of course, neither of those hypotheses are likely, let alone both.
>>
>>41707537
>I just have to trust her now. Let's head back down there and see Flame.
>>
>>41707640
You can't hold someone's hand through a redemption quest. You can help and support them, but they need to put themselves on the path. Hopefully the heroism of the Tyrant's last acts will have done that for her.
>>
>>41707649
if the first bit is true and the second isn't, is there now a bit of Neverborn soulstuff free to do stuff?
>>
>>41707667
No. If the first bit is true and the second isn't, the bit of Neverborn stuff probably returned to the Neverborn, since it was an extension - not an independent bit - all along. There's a reason the Neverborn haven't been able to fall into the void yet.
>>

I doubt it. Why would the piece of a piece of dead Primordial's soul be immune to being broken down to it's base essence like the Prince's (in this hypoethical I mean) The reason we're concerned that the Prince will go back is because that third circle soul binds him to the Neverborn, so if he dies he goes back to them.
>>
You'll just have to trust her and hope she doesn't get in trouble. Or causes any.

You leap back down into the wrecked Titan, to find...

Oh, boy. This is awkward.

Flame's down there, with Samiel, just next to the Reactor.

...Is she crying?

It really feels like you've lost this battle, rather than having won it. As much as you try and think about how much you've accomplished, you can't help but feel a sense of defeat.

Seeing people cry just reinforces that feeling.

The same reason why the Neverborn are immune to that; getting stuck instead of being able to reincarnate or dissolve, anon. We're not even sure if Gentle Repose allowed the Tyrant to permanently pass on yet. And it's extremely probable that the Silver Prince didn't get permakilled.

Or it could bully them into staying together. Or ruin a bonding moment. Let them make their own decisions. Maka doesn't have to control everyone's social life. we don't know if it's 'extremely probable', that's your interpretation but EF has not confirmed it. It either is or it isn't, it's not 'one is more likely then the other.' EF knows what happened.

And yes, as a whole the primordials couldn't be broken down by their own system, but then again we're not talking about breaking them down as a whole. The Neverborns divided up bits of their souls, and in this scenario those bits got destroyed.

Breaking them down piece by piece is how they got killed into Neverborn in the first place.

It just doesn't work the way you think.

And no, it's extremely probable. Exaltedfag could throw us a curveball, since his version of the setting isn't strictly canon, but by canon, he'd be back in a year and a day.

They weren't broke down piece by piece, they were killed. As in, there was still shit left over from their death. By being broken down, I'm talking about paring them down essence by essence, into something completely unrecognizable from the whole. For all we know, the superweapon does exactly that.

Anon, no. Just no. People do it all the time in real life, Maka is fully capable of doing this like any sane person.

Anon, hold out whatever hope and headcanon you want. But it doesn't match actual canon, and we've been given zero reason to think that's how it works. You're presenting purely-hypothetical wishes and guesses as if they had some basis in this setting's reality and they, sadly, do not.

okay, whatever man. Your condescension isn't necessary, and you admitted yourself this isn't actual canon and that EF has diverged from it already. There weren't any Directional Titans left in canon by the Age of Sorrows, so no it's not purely hypothetical. The whole reason we're having this discussion is because we don't know the effects a superweapon from the First Age would have on Primordials or their servants, and you have no evidence other then from main canon to tell me that is how shit will exactly go down.

The talking goes on... for a long time. A couple hours, even. You're not even sure what they're talking about.

Flame at first was somberly sad. Not bawling her heart out like Fleurdelis was. Crying, but crying like a god should cry. Or at least that's what it seemed like. They hugged and talked. She became restless. Stood up, started pacing around, flames trailing her. Wide gestures to the Titan wrecked all around her. Samiel calming her down. Hug. She sits down again. Samiel stand up and now he's walking around talking, as if explaining something.

The conversation seems to calm down. Samie gestures to where the Bodhisattva stabbed the reactor. The crack is still there. More talking, gestures. Is he talking about the fight? He made some fighty-motions. Then, some more bacl-and-forth. Suddenly, Flame disappears, as if something offended her. Samiel walks around and pleads with her. After a while, she reappears.

In the end, you have the definite impression that you're watching a married couple's fight.

After a long time, things seem to have calmed down. That's when Samiel notices you (about time!) and gestures for you to come down.

Flame avoids her eyes.

"Was everything alright with Fleurdelis?"

"...Not really, but I think she's better now. Long story." You turn to Flame. "...So? How are you?"

"Terrible." She replies, not looking at you.

"Say, Flame, I wanted to ask you... Will you be alright, now that the volcano's going cold and the Reactor's mostly empty after firing?"

She looks at the big pillar. "...I don't know. Back then, I could just regenerate Essence normally by breathing in the flows of Creation. But now... my geomancy is blocked."

"By the damage?"

"Maybe that made things worse, but I couldn't breathe anything other than a tiny amount of Essence before, too. It's just..." She half-turns to look at her own wings. They're large, but look weak and atrophied, with no muscle and flimsy membrane. "...I wasn't born to stay underground. I wasn't born to be a volcano."

"...The reactor will recharge very slowly." Samiel informs you. "Her life isn't in danger, but she's much less powerful now, and..."

"The Light of Judgement might never fire again." She cuts to the chase. "Between the energy needed, the backlash from firing while underground, battle damage..." She smiles weakly. "...I will never be what I used to. Maybe... Maybe over time, I'll lose myself again."

I think it's pretty clear why she didn't help; it's because we gave her entire identity and sense of self a tremendous kick in the balls like a day before all this shit went down.

It was probably necessary. Putting it off might have lead to the whole thing happening when the Silver Prince started dicking around in there, which probably would have been ten times as horribly traumatic, but that was a consequence of that decision.

You hug her.

She's warm, a lot hotter than what would be normal body temperature for anyone... but a lot colder than she felt the first time you met her in her new form.

"I told you once that you will fly again. I meant it. I'll find a way."

She sinks in your arms. "...Thank you. That means a lot for me." She gently hugs you back, and you feel her sobbing. "...I'm sorry."

"Tell me." It's clear she has a weight to get off her chest.

"...When the battle started, and the Bodhisattva broke into the Titan's structure, he tried to seal me with sorcery."

"...Sorcery?"

"It... I think it was sorcery. But I never felt anything like that. It was... cold... black..."

Necromancy. That spell the Bodhisattva's pet necromancer cast wasn't just to collapse the castle. It was an all-out assault on Flame... in body and mind.

"That's why you didn't appear?"

"...He knew I was in here. He didn't want me to interfere. I fought back against the spell, but..."

Now you understand. "...But then he said that he'd make you fly again. And that made you hesitate."

She nods.

"And you saw him beat up the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine before your eyes. Your tyrant. The person you hated the most in your entire existence."

She nods again, holding back the tears. "In that moment... I... I just thought... I thought I had found... I don't know what. It felt right. The Tyrant would die. I would fly again. It made sense, in my head. I don't know what I was thinking."

the what?
>>
>>41709216
Back when we were talking about the design people wanted some UCS imagery and we brought up four golden hands holding up the shield, they've never been mention in the quest, but we did get this thing from Tyrant
>...and instead, you see her fixing her eyes behind you, to where your iconic anima burns.
>...or is she? She seems absolutely startled, staring behind you with eyes wide open, mouth gaping, frozen in an expression of absolute astonishment. You weren't expecting that reaction.
Which could have been her seeing UCS in our anima.
>>
>>41709117
>>41709227
>Outside of the shield, a shining tiara carrying in its centre a single great sapphire springs into existance.
>The shield moves behind you and spreads wide as a background, leaving the crown to hover over your head.
I had totally forgotten about that part
>>
>>41709265
Sorry, I don't think these hands are a thing. I took the anima's description straight from EF's answers on his ask.fm. I even asked him about it, a couple of times.

Loyalty is a powerful thing, Anon. Moray grew up in Skullstone, and after he exalted, he fought for the Prince for years. There's also the fact that the Silver Prince's society really does work almost exactly like he says it does, except for the fact that the people who don't become ghosts don't reincarnate like he says they do, they go to Island Five to be turned into soulsteel. The Silver Prince usually hides his evil shit very well, and if you'd spent a lifetime seeing him be an honorable and just ruler, you'd be hesitant to accept that he's actually a crazy omnimuderghost.
>>
>>41709313
Don't worry about it, it was only a half joke
>>
>>41709227
>>41709308
The tiara's there, actually - it's just on top of the shield, instead of over Maka's head. It's just placed wrong.
>>
>>41709314
Moray still ended up being about as useful as a glass of water to a drowning man.
>>
>>41709344
It's also huge, but yeah I see it now, my bad.
>>
>>41709352
That's because he had to face the Prince alone after we got our ass killed
>>
>>41709352
And what would you have proposed to do? Let Moray kill of Talon, Radiant and all the others?

We still couldn't have touched the Silver prince, nay the Bodhisattva while he was fighting Tyrant!
>>
>>41709352
Sure, in terms of positive utility he didn't accomplish much, but consider the fact that we removed a significant source of negative utility. To whit: one less Solar trying to kill the shit out of our front lines.
>>
>>41709352
He might prove hella useful yet, in our culture-bombing of Skullstone.

On a related note, once our coins are minted and we have Horizon to Horizon, Skullstone needs to become a trading partner. We have 15 months before the Silver Prince regenerates. We might make crazy progress from Horizon to Horizon alone in that time.
>>
>>41709352
He was a massive threat who was turned into a tentative ally and removed as an impediment to our allies. I'd consider that a success.
>>
>>41709437
we should just take over skull stone before someone else does or one of the silver princes lackeys does some stupid dark ritual using the people there as fodder

Its army and navy are basically non existant at the moment
>>
>>41709437
>>41709449
>>41709490
Yup. With Moray's help we can add it to the empire. Along with that island Quint wants.
>>
>>41709490
>we should just take over skull stone before someone else does
Oh, for sure. It's prime for it. We just decapitated their government, scattered or killed their Abyssals, and turned their Solar to our side.

That said, said Solar is probably going to be a huge fucking problem if we try to take Skullstone's sovereignty.

It might be wiser, socially and tactically, to use him as a loyal proxy/ally state, setting him up as the sovereign while launching a comprehensive propaganda campaign against the people.

We want to use Moray, not go to war with him all over again, after all.

>Its army and navy are basically non existant at the moment
Are they? The attack against Tianna was always fluffed as a strike force that was hyper-elite, but in no way the majority of their military power. I think we might be surprised by how many ghosts, troops, ships, and grounded defenses they still have. And that's not to mention that some of the Abyssals that escaped might have fallen back there to fortify.

Skullstone should be reeling, ready for us to take action. I seriously doubt it will be any sort of a slam dunk, though.
>>
>>41709554
Not to mention the fact that our military took massive casulties and we have a much smaller population base. Annexing Aurora and the Silver reef league (assuming EF adds them in), before attacking would probably be prudent.
>>
>>41709679
But ultimately, whatever we do, we don't want to threaten Skullston's actual sovereignty as long as we're keeping Moray in the picture. He's loyal to Skullstone above all else. Any hostile action against it or its people would probably be taken poorly by him.

Establishing him as a sovereign who's our puppet, or economically tied to us, or otherwise a close and reliable ally would be for the best.

And, on the plus side, we know that he's immune to the Silver Prince's cheaty sword now. It only ever works on someone once.
>>
>>41709732
If we killed the Bodhisattva we should still have the sword with us, we're gonna melt that sucker down to make sure no one uses it if they haven't already.
>>
>>41709732
>Establishing him as a sovereign who's our puppet, or economically tied to us, or otherwise a close and reliable ally would be for the best.
Or some sort of federalism deal.
>>
>>41709762
Nah, if we have it we should use it to dominate enemy abyssals in the future. Or ghosts loyal to the deathlords/neverborn. We couldn't persuade the Day caste to stop fighting, having something like the Prince's sword would help a lot in these situations.
>>
>>41709811
>Or some sort of federalism deal.
Yeah, a confederation of Western island-states could work. As long as we allow Skullstone some measure of continued sovereignty and respect its people, Moray should be willing to play ball.
>>
>>41709879
>Yeah, a confederation of Western island-states could work.

Fuck no. I've said it before and I'll say it again - we are not going to lower ourselves to the level of the Deathlords. We're not a mind-controlling supervillain. No, the ends do not justify the means.

We use non-mind-control social prowess to try to convince them of the rightness of our side. That is Maka's style. Not being a fucking mind-controlling tyrant.

We're not the Tyrant, we're not the Bodhisattva.

We have fucking standards.

No. The ends do not justify the means. We will not lower ourselves to the level of the Deathlords.

We're a force of righteousness and redemption, not abuse and corruption.

We're going to walk the righteous path, even if it's the harder one.

That's the entire point of our mission to prove that humanity is worthy of the Unconquered Sun's blessing again.

Anyone who suggests otherwise is someone pushing us towards the path that led to the First Age, that led to the Unconquered Sun forsaking mankind, that led to the Deathlords coming into existence in the first place.

As soon as you choose what's easy and expedient over what's righteous, you're throwing away everything that Maka and the UCS actually stand for.

I don't object to using the sword on philosophical grounds, like many others, but I do STRONGLY object on practical grounds.

That thing is a MIND CONTROL artifact that belonged to, and is intimately associated with, a DEATHLORD.

Trying to use that thing will end badly, no question. Finding a safe way to destroy it should definitely be on our ever-growing to-do list.

What does the UCS stand for? Because in canon he stands for nothing much in particular aside from "Being awesome."

Want to get in his favor? Be awesome.

Want to be exalted by his power? Be awesome.

Want to be his chosen? BE AWESOME.

There is nothing tying the UCS to being "Good" or "Just" and you should fuck off with that misconception.

For all we know, it doesn't even mind-control people to obey the wielder. It might just mind-control them to obey the Bodhisattva, regardless of who's happens to be wielding it.

Entirely true there. Although EF isn't White Wolf in this case and does quite disagree with them, thus the reason why we should experiment and investigate. Honestly, furthermore, that weapon is absurd in stats. Even if it does no longer work due to the fact of it's link to the Silver Prince, giving it to Tia or Karas is honestly a grand idea due to damage and the fact artifacts like that are EXCEEDINGLY hard to come by.
>>
>>41710316
Fuck off.
>>
>>41710285
>>41710297
Who says they don't work like that? Artifacts have drawbacks sometimes. I don't think it's implausible that, to put it in 2E terms, attuning to Howler in Darkness would impose a Whispers rating of 4-5.
>>
>>41710384
Karas already has a Grand Daiklave, but no, I'm also on the side of melting it down to nothing
>>
>>41710384
Fuck that. We don't know what it does. The experimentation alone could be catastrophic in effect. We're going to destroy it, because we don't trust putting it in the hands of anyone.

It's evil, and we've seen the evil it does first hand.

That shit's getting melted down.

We can make it into a new artifact if you're that fucking determined. After all, it's too late to save those souls in it, but we can still respect their sacrifice by putting them to use.
>>
>>41710404
A Grand Daiklave isn't the Howler in Darkness anon. They're incomparable and on entirely differing tiers.
>>
>>41710428
Not really, the only place they differ is in the mind control ability and the whole become a tiny sword.

Karas' sword was made in the First Age and can still be upgraded
>>

Exactly, one is Karas' sword, the other we are melting down into nothing.

>>
>>41710423
>We're going to destroy it, because we don't trust putting it in the hands of anyone.
Why exactly? We're using our solar brainrape charms to ensure everyone's loyalty. Hell, anyone who even looks at a depiction of Maka now has a social attack lodged against them.

>It's evil, and we've seen the evil it does first hand.
Solars are evil. We've seen the evil it's done firsthand in the first age. Does that mean we should kill ourselves? No. Good and Evil aren't objective things in Exalted.

>Fuck that. We don't know what it does. The experimentation alone could be catastrophic in effect.
What's it going to do?

>>41710463
>Not really, the only place they differ is in the mind control ability and the whole become a tiny sword.
The Grand Daiklave in 2e deals 12L damage. 11L in Errata. The howler in the darkness deals 23L. Almost double that for the original.

>Karas' sword was made in the First Age and can still be upgraded
Upgraded with what?
>>
>>41710508
>The Grand Daiklave in 2e deals 12L damage. 11L in Errata. The howler in the darkness deals 23L. Almost double that for the original.

Yeah, Deathlords don't fuck around. Even the non-combat Deathlords can floss their teeth with a circle of high-level non-Elder Solars.

Really the only reason we made it out of there is because we have access to some of the most seriously fucking nasty shit conceived at the absolute peak of the First Age.

Of course. But we're talking about a Deathlord's sword here. It would have every upgrade in the book and more. Which is exactly what it has.
>>
>>41710508
You're misreading that character sheet there. In 2E Exalted, stat blocks include lists of attacks that have the character's stats and abilities factored in, for ease of use in actual combat. That 23L isn't the damage of Howler in Darkness, that 23L is Howler in Darkness being swung by the Silver Prince and his 8 strength and various other bonuses.
>>
>>41710614
>But we're talking about a Deathlord's sword here.
