You are Sallazar, a young wizard who has recently left the army. You have taken a teaching job at Egwen Girls Convent.

In addition the Headmaster of the school wants you to run the schools adventurers club, to give some of the schools more unusual girls something fun to do.

Over the next week you help the girls train and prepare for their next match, or rather, their first league match.

You also discuss with the girls the sorts of items that they want to help them for next mission.

For Kittrane you enchant some leather armour one of the girls was altering for her. With that she should be able to shrug of most attacks.

At Syphoebeus' request you don't make anything specifically for her, instead you make a ring that allows the wearer to link together a small group telepathically, allowing them to communicate effectively in the dungeon, no matter where they are.

For Evrumine you make a cloak that can hide her. As the less stealthy of the pair that is to grab the princess, she needs the help.

For Nevyn you make something to increase her size upon command. Despite her requests for an item to 'make her prettier' you convince her that something that will allow the princess to ride her out of the dungeon is a better idea in case something happens to Phaysis.

Unfortunately you run out of time and are unable to make anything for Chame or Phaysis.
>>
[Items gained]

(Kittrane) Leather Armour of Durability: DR 12
(Syphoebeus) Ring of Telepathic Bond: as the spell
(Evrumine) Cloak of Invisibility: As the spell
(Nevyn) Vest (harness) of Growth: Can increase Nevyns size in any form (10 feet tall or long)

[End items]

The girls come along in leaps and bounds in their training, soon many of them will be as skilled as some professional adventurers.

Anlanesas is starting to get a grip on her own magical talents.
Calluna is showing a talent for conjuration, though you don't know what sort of things she'll one day summon.
Chame has been focusing upon her stealth skills, as has Evrumine.
Janrael will be a very skilled wizard one day, as will Safire.
Kittrane focused upon her arcane powers, and can now see through illusions and magical disguises.
Lucinda can summon weird ectoplasmic constructs and stun her foes with the power of her mind, or as Chame puts it “now she can stop people in their tracks and keep her clothes on at the same time”.
Nevyn is getting stronger and faster.
Phaysis skill with a spear is now better than many professional soldiers, and she is getting stronger and faster.
Syphoebeus has been focusing on her magical powers and can now turn herself or others invisible.

Lucinda and the other parts of her present a bit of a problem for you, and the Headmaster. Really you should find a way to separate them, but so far none of them want to be separated, seeming perfectly happy with their joined existence.

Further complicating matters is that neither you nor the headmaster are experts in mind-magics. The Headmaster has requested the aid of an old friend of his who is an enchanter, but he is currently helping sort out another mess. What sort of person enchants a giant sea snake to fall in love with a rich halflings son?

That question is still puzzling you when you herd the girls off the lightning rail into Becklingill.
>>
All around you is chaos as other passengers disembark, some of your girls stand in the way just staring around at the town around them, others are helping you unload all the crates with the clubs gear in them.

“No over there, that way” you direct “the inn is that way, whoa!” you almost trip over Safire “Sorry!”

“Its ok sir” comes the muffled voice behind the mask, as she carries one end of a long box, with Evrumine taking the other.

Fortunately Lucinda and...the others are here to help. The four of them split up and join the small groups your girls are splitting in to in the chaos of the rail station, and slowly bring everyone back together.

“Do we have everyone, anyone missing?” you address the gaggle of girls, performing a quick mental headcount, yes, looks like all them. “Right follow me!”

“Yes follow your teacher!” the voice of Thunder Drum booms. You turn to see him and Master Telgether at the back, it'll be good to not be the only adult on this trip.

Its mid-morning.

XXX

Once you have the girls settling into one of the towns inns, having booked out the entire place, you march up to the castle overlooking the town to find the Daves.

The white-peaked mountains in the background are a stark promise of what's to come.

You find a party in full swing at the castle, and one of the guards helpfully tells you that no, the dungeon-makers are no longer here, they've gone up further into the mountains.

Those two never did make it easy to find them. You pull out your crystal ball and wander away from the castle.

Eventually one of them answers “What?”

“Well I'm at Becklingill” you say “where are you?”

“Azar don't gimme that, the spoiled little snot wanted another game and his dad waved a lot of coin at us, look, we're up the mountain getting the set ready alright?”

“I thought we were starting at midday” you say “so now when do we start?”
>>
“Mid-afternoon, early evening” says Dave “look, do us a favour and go meet the Brain Raid or whatever they're called again.”

“Raid Rush” you say

“Yeah, right, them” says Dave “they were only supposed to be getting here an hour after you. Go find them, say sorry, keep them entertained for a few hours, can you do that?”

“How am I supposed to do that?” you say “if they spend any time near the girls the two groups will start arm-wrestling or something.”

“Oh is that what the kids are calling it nowadays?” asks Dave with a leer.

“Ha Ha” you say dryly “but seriously, how do I keep two groups of teenagers occupied for hours?”

“Uhm...” says Dave “I guess, ah, yes. In addition to the dungeon we put up some hedge mazes and courses to run with obstacles, and some arenas so the kids could use blunt bits of wood on each other. Since we've been rushing to get your run ready we haven't taken it down yet. You could have the girls and boys do that. Or let them run around in town or whatever.”

“Right” you say, thinking.

“Oh yeah, one other thing” says Dave “got a letter from some old knight about someone called Tellaric or something being in the area and could I keep an eye out. Weird, anyway, one of the lords soldiers said a lone traveller was seen going up towards the Kelvic Pass, whatever that is, towards Ice Giant territory, said he won't be seen again.”

Ah yes, you'd almost forgotten your old friend was going to be around here.

“So what's the estimate?” you ask Dave “how long until you're ready?”

“Eight hours, minimum” he says.

“I'll contact you then” you say, ending the communication.

So, most of a day to kill. And all of the club to keep entertained. Not to mention Raid Rush in the mix.

And Tellaric is in the area, as usual trying to do everything single-handedly. Tellaric can take care of himself, but what is he doing going to Ice Giant lands? He's got the damn sword, what is he doing?

You'll stick with the girls, and they can spend the day playing in the park the Daves built for the party.

You head back to the Lightning Rail station and get there just as the next one is coming in. Its not hard to spot the group of two-dozen burly and boisterous young men flooding off the train and yammering to each other loudly.

You clear your throat loudly and wave to get their attention. They brush past you, still hooting and yelling in their barbaric accent, some even apologise as they shove past, pushing you around.

You're on the verge of doing something impressively magical and borderline illegal when a towering Elder Fireheart strides up “Little Master Sallazar!” he booms, grabbing you in a rib-bruising hug “iz goot to seeing you again. You iz well? You iz healthy? Girls iz ok?”

“I'm fine” you wheeze, once he puts you down “And you?”

“Iz goot weather!” he booms, gesturing to the open and freezing cold sky “iz ready for battle with worthy foe, never better!”

“Glad to hear it” you say diplomatically “and who are your friends?” you nod to the black-bearded hulking brute with crazy, ever-moving eyes next to Elder Fireheart, and the smaller, red-bearded one who sports a broad grin.

“Oh yez” says Elder Fireheart “Iz Bronk” he claps the black-bearded one on the shoulder and adds “He iz...” he trails off then says something in another language to the red-bearded one who answers in the same tongue.

“Bronk is Master of Novices” says Elder Fireheart “And Skald Yotzi.”

“Pleased to meet you both” You say politely. Bronk just glares down at you. Skald Yotzi offers his hand and when you take it your hand is crushed in the resulting handshake.

“A pleasure to meet you” says Skald Yotzi, in barely accented common tongue. Oh thank the gods at least one can speak in a civilised manner.
>>
“There's been a slight mix-up” you say, explaining about the Daves running over schedule.
Skald Yotzi simply smiles and says “these things happen.” Bronk glares, and Elder Fireheart says “ah yez, well, will get boys out to camp and then run laps, practise weapons, keep dem busy, bored boys iz no good boys.”

“You're not staying in town?” you ask curiously.

Elder Fireheart shakes his head “Oh no” he says “too soft, too...civilised, camping iz best.”

Then he wraps his arm over your shoulders “but tonight after match ve comes in to drink to our victory yez? Don't worry Little Master Sallazar we go easy on you.”

Inwardly you smile. Years of living with dwarves have given you a tolerance for alcohol far higher then these three suspect.

“That sounds like an excellent idea” you say “I have the girls doing similar practise” you explain about the leftover scenes from the party.

The three exchange glances and then Bronk says something in another tongue, there is some discussion. Finally Skald Yotzi says “I wonder, could our boys use the same facilities?”

“I don't see why not” you say. After all if both groups keep their distance nothing could go wrong.

“Yez goot idea!” says Elder Fireheart “and maybe some friendly competitions before the match?”

Your response?

“We can all use the place as a training ground” you say “but lets keep the tewo groups separate, no one wants to get in trouble with the judges before the match, right?”

They shrug, nod and glare respectively, which you take as agreement.

And with that the three lead their gang of meatheads away to set up camp.

XXX

You are Kittrane, Balor Soulborn, member and acting leader of Team Fell Storm, and you are going to be permanent leader after winning this match!

You don't hate Cleya but she's a a huge nerd and she only wants to be the leader for credits and stuff. You want to prove you've got what it takes so when you get out back into the real world and away from school you can start your own adventuring party.

You've been running the obstacle course with the team, whilst the rest of the girls from the club do whatever they want to.

In between runs you all take a breather. Despite the cold air they are look hot and sweaty, maybe you're pushing them too hard, can't exhaust them before the match. Then you dismiss that thought, its hours yet, plenty of time to rest later.

“Nevyn not bad” you say, a good leader compliments her squad, you remember your fathers words. Nevyn gives you a hesitant smile, she still seems scared of you.

“Evvy pick up your feet more” you say, She kept tripping up on the netting.

Evrumine opens her mouth to retort, and you glare at her, she shuts her mouth without saying anything. A good leader keeps her squad in line.

“Chame!” you almost snap “what were you doing?”

“Flying” says Chame, wrapping her body around a wooden hurdle and lying down on it. She turned into a bird rather than run the course.

“We were running the course, not flying it” you snarl at her.

“You said get to the finish line” she says, smirking “weren't those your exact words?”
>>
>>41748582
I don't think the threat of brutal evisceration won't make his sleep any more restful.
>>
You take a deep breath to bawl her out, then restrain yourself, can't mess this up, gotta win the vote, can't scare them all. You turn to Phaysis “Good running” you say “just watch those low ones ok?” Phaysis nods and rubs her forehead, she ran straight into that low beam.

“Yeah woo” says Chame sarcastically. Your temper flaring you turn to the last member of your team.

“Syphoebeus!” You bark.

Phoebe just smiles at you “Yes Kittrane?” she asks.

Your mind freezes, you can't think of the right words, are you scared of her, hungry for her respect? No, no that can't be it, other peoples respect is a cloak to be worn your father said, not a bauble to chase after.

“Uh, you did good” you half mumble to her.

“Thank you” she says gravely. She thanked you! She said thank you!

“Right next” you start to say, then are interrupted by cheering and hollering as a large group of tall, muscled guys head past you and the other girls, heading for the arenas, damn you wanted to use those next.

As your friends at the guys exchange greetings, mock challenges, and the sorts of remarks that normally lose credits, you wonder what you want the team to do next.

Fortunately Lucinda interrupts, clearing her throat behind you.

“Yes Lucky?” you ask her, turning. Ugh, she has the other three with her, that's just unnatural.

“We were wondering” starts Lucinda, looking over at the guys. One of the others continues “if this isn't a good time to learn about what they can do.”

“Or their plans.” says another.

“Uh how?” asks Evrumine, sat on the grass breathing heavily after her run.

Chame rolls her eyes “Evvy we need to tell you about the birds and the owlbears” she starts to say.

Lucinda smirks and speaks over her “eventually Chame will get to the point” she tells Evrumine “but what she means is: guys will tell a girl anything, if you ask them right.”
>>
“Are you even sure you've got the right stuff?” Chame retorts “I mean those guys seems to like that” she points to you, Phoebe and Evrumine, “rather than this” she makes her body writhe and undulate, did she just make her breasts bigger? And what's wrong with your body? Or Phoebes?

“What do you say” says Lucinda “a little fact-gathering?”

In the distance Professor Sallazar is talking to the teachers of Raid Rush. He's not looking this way....

Your response?

“So to recap” says the match official, or assistant judge or whatever he's called “you get points for every foe defeated, you get points for areas explored and treasure found. Points are lost for party members 'killed' in action and removed from play.”

He continues “If your whole party is wiped out then you lose by default. The team thast rescues the princess from the giants and brings her back to their base, wins. If neither team has the princess back at their base by midnight and both are still in play, then points decide the winner, now, as an evil team you are allowed minions, where are your summons?”

Chame and Phaysis step forwards.

The judge, a grey-bearded gnome, gives the Professor as suspicious look “are you pulling my leg?” he asks.

“On mimic, one nightmare” says the Professor with a straight face “perfectly within the rules.”

The judge scowls “I'll allow it in the interests of getting the match going” he says “but I'm referring that one to the rules committee.”

Damn, Team Fell Storm might not be able to play with the others for much longer.

“Right” says the official “anyway, you start here, and Raid Rush are the other side of the mountain” he points upwards to a an ice-covered building “the princess is in the castle tower, one of them anyway, you need to get there, and get back” He checks an old watch on a chain “wait for it, wait for it...go!”

You and the other girls set off running, damn its cold out here in the evening, as the light fades.

Far above you is the castle. Straight ahead is a sheer cliff that you could climb. If would tire you out some, and if any of you falls then the competition spell levitates you down, but you are dead and out of the game.

To your left is the entrance to a cave complex that probably reaches up to the castle. Its too small for giants but could have other monsters in it.

To the right is a long snow-covered track up to the castle. Its the obvious approach and will likely be guarded.

“Caves” you say, veering off towards the caves, the other girls following behind you.

“Why?” says Chame, looking much shorter than usual and actually running on top of the snow!

“Because” You say, your breath steaming in the cold air “we need to get the princess down somehow, so we need a clear exit, and its either the caves, which might have things living in them, or the main path, which will be watched and guarded.”

“If the guys have a similar choice” says Phoebe, as you all approach the mouth of the cave “which would they choose?”

“Right up the path” says Phaysis “the direct manly approach right?”

“Probably” huffs Nevyn, as you all pile into the cave entrance.

It's dark in here, but you have plenty of torches with you, and you light up some as you wander into the caves. Its queit in here, except for the distant dripping of water.

These caves are all twisting passages and caves that split and join one another, getting lost is easy...

Then you all hear the sound of something slithering and sliding over rock.

“What was that?” Asks Evrumine, suddenly pressed up against your side.

“Giant snake maybe?” Chame grins at her

Evvy whimpers and presses closer to you.

“Grow up” you tell Evrumine “can anyone tell where it is?”

You all pause and listen. However the echoing nature of the caves hides its location, and its distance.

“I'll scout ahead” volunteers Nevyn “we can avoid it then.”

“We should just stick together and push on quickly” argues Phoebe “we don't want to waste time.”

Yeah, sticking together, that's the smart option.

“Go” you say to Nevyn, to Phoebe you add “could you keep us all touching, I mean in touch with each other, with your ring I mean!” you hurriedly clarify

Phoebe gives you a curious look but raises her ring and...

-Is this thing on?- Asks Nevyn

-Would you like me to take it off?- responds Chame

-No chatter!- you send strongly, trying to blot out the confusing images the other girls are sending. Evrumine has some weird fears about the dark.

-We move quickly- you explain, as Nevyn heads off into the darkness -Nevyn watches for monsters, but keep moving!-

You all move as fast and as quietly as you can through the caves, heading onwards and upwards, as Nevyn ranges ahead.

After some time Nevyns sends back to you -Wait a moment!-

-What?- you respond, as you all halt.

-There's some worm-caterpillar things ahead- She sends -big ones-

Evrumine whimpers and you get a confused image of big white slimy things.

-What do they look like?- Asks Phaysis

-About five feet long, hairy, like segmented body like a worm- Sends Nevyn -lots of little legs though and...ugh!-

-What?- You send -Nevyn are you ok?-

-I'm fine- She sends -But they have these big mouths with lots of tiny flat teeth and a bunch of long tentacle-like tongues that they're licking the walls with, some of the tongue-things have spines on the end-

You all exchange glances, Phaysis shrugs. Maybe you should have bought a nerd along to identify them.

-Ask them if they're related to Loony Calloony?- Suggests Chame.

You ignore her -How many?- You ask Nevyn

-Twenty or so- She sends back -They're filling the passageway-

-Twenty, we can handle twenty- sends Phoebe confidently

-I dunno- responds Phaysis -Spines could mean poison or something-

-I could draw them off- sends Nevyn -They're not moving fast-

-Can we go around them?- Asks Evrumine.

-Nevyn wait- you send -I'll draw them off-

There's a pause.

-Um, I know you're in charge and stuff- sends Phaysis -But Nevyn and I are faster, maybe we should-

-Can you teleport?- You counter -No? Then its me, Nevyn keep a look out, I'm coming-

You head forwards until you can practically hear the slithering and soft tapping of tiny feet.

“Here I am!” you bellow, waving your torch “fresh meat! Come and get it!”

-Tender juicy prime grade A meat!- sends Chame.

You get images of amusement over the telepathic link.

“Over here!” you keep yelling, as the things come into view, they're just as Nevyn described: green hairy worm-caterpillar things with gaping mouths and tentacles for tongues.

But they're moving pretty fast, maybe faster than you can run! You turn and run as fast as you can, dodging and sprinting through side passages.

-You said they moved slowly!- you send to Nevyn

-They kinda sped up when you started yelling- she responds apologetically

-They're just too eager to sink their tongues into some meat- suggests Chame

-Shut up!- You send, as you swerve round some rocks, stalagmites, stalactites, whatever they are, the pack of worm monsters on your heels -And get moving!-

-If you get worm-ganged, be sure to give us regular updates- suggests Chame -I'd be interested in know what you feel when you get a dozen stingers sunk into your-

There's a confused mess of images down the link, and a certain feeling of...fear from Chame. You can suddenly see Phoebes face inches from your own and clearly hear her say “Don't be a bitch Chame.”

A few moments later Chame sends -Sorry Kittrane, good luck-

Is Phoebe sticking up for you? The thought is enough to make you stumble, but you keep running and finally out-distance the things.

Finally you stop, gulping down air and listening, you can't hear any of the things.

-We're past the worm-place- sends Nevyn -see you soon-
>>
Right, yes, your teleport spell. You focus your energies, and on where you want to be. But all you can think about is Phoebe defending you, what could it mean?

You disappear, and reappear in an identical cave...but there is no one in sight.

Ah dammit...it takes another try before you appear next to your group.

[Kittrane AE 7/13]

“Are you ok?” asks Phaysis, she starts to reach a hand towards you. All of the girls look concerned, except Chame, who is away from the others, looking subdued.

“Never better” you say, brushing past her “lets go.”

You head onwards and upwards, encountering no more dangers until you finally emerge from the caves, into a large room full of sacks of...grain and potatoes. Ahead of you is a giant-sized door.

-Get ready everyone- you send -As soon as we open that door we could be in for the hardest fight yet!-

You all take a grip on your weapons, and you and Phoebe open the door slowly, only to see an empty corridor. Empty except for a rat that is – it takes one look at all of you and runs.

-I think we could have taken it- Snarks Nevyn.

You all breathe a sigh of relief.

-C'mon- you send -And keep quiet-

XXX

You find your way outside, somewhat sheltered in a sunken stairwell you can see the castle courtyard.

There are loud bellows as several giants run past you, towards the open gate facing towards the other side of the mountain, where Raid Rush started from.

In the distance you can hear yelling, and you think you can smell smoke, fire spells maybe?

So far no one has noticed you.

-Time to head for the tower- suggests Nevyn, pointing to the tallest tower at the back of the castle, the obvious hiding place for a prisoner.

-The Princess could be in another tower- sends Phaysis, pointing out the three smaller towers.

-Or not in a tower- adds Evrumine.
>>
All of which complicates your search. You could head for the obvious location, or another tower, or search the whole place, but that could take a while.

Right now the giants are distracted, seems they're fighting Raid Rush. You could move now, or wait until one force defeats the other.

“She could be anywhere” you admit “but lets start at the main tower anyway, since its the obvious place to start.

You wait until the next pair of giants run past, and then head towards the main tower. Peering through a crack in the door you can see a long spiral staircase heading up. And at the base of it, two grumbling ice giants.

-Looks like the place- send Evrumine -So Phoebe, me and Kittrane take the one on the right, everyone else the one on the left?-

-That's hardly an even division of force- points out Phaysis tartly -Anyway its Kittranes decision-

-Well decide fast- urges Nevyn -We're out in the open where any passing giants could see us-

In the distance you hear a loud bellow and then a column of fire lights up the sky, out where the fight is happening.

-Well- comments Phoebe, as you all turn to the pillar of flame -guess the Raid Rush guys came prepared-

You turn back to the door, and the matter at hand.

The simplest option would be to charge in an attack, using the element of surprise. You'd have a fight, but behind closed doors, with little chance of passing giants getting involved.

You could send Chame up to scout, but the rest of you might be noticed in the meantime.

You could trying to distract them or draw them away, but they might sound the alarm, or you could get spotted.

You outline your plan to the others, and then you and Phoebe heave the door open.

You, Evrumine and Phoebe charge forwards, even as Phaysis starts firing arrows at the closes giant.

Nevyn and Chame take a wide detour as the two giants head in your direction, hoping to get behind the lumbering behemoths.

Phaysis arrows hit their mark in the giants face, causing it to bellow in anger.

You, Evrumine and Syphoebeus hit the nearest giant together.

Evrumines axe opens up a gaping wound in its leg and it stumbles.

Syphoebeus smashes her over-sized hammer into its its knee, causing it to topple forwards and catch itself on its hands.

As it glares at you, you charge forwards and slam your blazing axe into its face, it gives a bellow that trails off into a gurgle, then slumps down, dissolving into a pile of snow.

Chames crossbow bolt catches in the thick furs of the other giant, to no effect.

Nevyn easily races around the second giant and leaps onto its back, biting and clawing at its neck, using her new magic item to grow to a larger size.

With blood pouring from its wounds the giant flails around with its club, eventually succeeding in dislodging Nevyn, sweeping her off its back and sending her flying. She lands awkwardly, but then scrambles to her feet, still in the fight.

The remaining giant raises its club and snarls at all of you, backing towards the stairs.

Evrumine and Syphoebeus flank the giant, both trying to get a good hit in, Nevyn hangs back, looking for an opportunity to jump on its back again.

Meanwhile Phaysis and Chame fire arrows and bolts at it, aiming for its face. Finally the giant lunges at Evrumine, who runs back even as Syphoebeus and Nevyn run in, using hammer and claws to take it down.

The giant falls, but is still fighting, lashing out with fists and feet, Nevyns deadly claws and teeth doing little to its thick fur jerkin. Syphoebeus' hammer has more effect, you hear horrible crunching sounds as she pounds its chest.

As kick almost hits Nevyns skull you yell out “back, get back!” and summon the burning fire from within you, you fling a tiny glowing marble at it, that explodes on contact, covering it in fire as your allies rush backwards.

[Kittrane AE 5/13]

“You almost got me!” complains Nevyn

“She was nowhere near you” counters Phaysis, “don't whine.”

“Well” says Chame, looking at the still and burning giants body as it melts into snow “what now?”

“Now its princess-rescuing time” you say “follow me”. You all head up the stairs, only to find a locked door.

“Ah, one for me” says Chame, climbing up the door and sticking her hand in the lock, after a few moments she says “got it” and you and Syphoebeus open the door.

Inside the giant-sized room you find a regular-sized princess, wearing a manacle around her ankle with a chain connected to a bed-post. She stands up and turns as you enter. She's wearing a slightly tattered but very expensive-looking dress.

Beside you, you can almost feel Chame about to comment, before she can you quickly say “We're here to rescue you”

“Thank you” she says, looking a bit uncertain “Um, you are?”

“Kittrane” you say simply “and this is Team Fell Storm.”

“You're not what I was expecting” she says faintly “I was expecting someone, more ah...”
>>
“Seriously?” says Phaysis “we're here to rescue you, and the fact that we're not human is what gets you?”

“Male...?” she finishes weakly.

“Well” says Syphoebeus after a moment of silence “I'm offended, anyone else?”

“Lets just get her out and go” you say, Chame gets to work on the manacle. The rest of you keep an eye on the stairs, in case reinforcements arrive.

Outside you hear yelling.

Nevyn jumps up on the window ledge -Raid Rush just came through the front gates- she sends -well, three of them at least-

“They're doing well” says Evrumine “How'd they beat all those giants?”

-They're throwing around clay pots that explode and burn- observes Nevyn -I think that might be it-

“Done!” says Chame, unlocking the manacle from the Princess “Now who's she going to ride....out of the castle?” she says with a smirk. The Princess gives her a flat look.

Evrumine asks you “What's the exit plan?”

You've got Raid Rush coming in the front gates, if you go through the courtyard you're sure to meet them.

A more roundabout route through the castle will avoid them, but you might run into more giants, or traps.

But then you planned for this: You, Evrumine and Syphoebeus were ready to fight them – its what they want after all. You could head down to fight them, as your allies take the princess away.

“Here's the plan” you say “Evvy, Phaysis, Nevyn, Syphoebeus and I get the Princess away through the caves.”

“And what do I do?” asks Chame

You give Chame an amused look “You get to be rescued and man-handled by a bunch of brutish guys...Princess Chame.”

Chame grins widely “you have the best plans” she says

XXX

“Hows it look?” you ask Nevyn, still perched on the window.

-Looks like they're buying it- she sends -Chame is doing the whole hugging thing and crying on his shoulder-

“I hope she's not over-selling it” murmurs Phaysis

“I hope she's not humping his leg” comments Evrumine “Oh don't give me that look, you know what she's like.”

“No I don't” says Syphoebeus, grinning “Do tell us Evrumine, what is Chame 'like'?”

“What?!” protests Evrumine “what makes you think 'I' know?”

“Well you're always embroiled in her schemes” says Syphoebeus, her grin getting wider “she seems to have you wrapped around her-”

“Let's just get moving” you say with a sigh.

-They're heading this way- reports Nevyn -Looks like they want their fight after all-

“Definitely time to go” you say.

XXX

With Chame slowing down the other party with occasional hysterics, you and the others easily get back to the cellar undetected, the Princess in tow, behaving herself, for now.

You set off down into the caves as Chame gives you regular updates. Apparently Raid Rush spent over an hour looking all over the castle for you, before dejectedly deciding to head back down the mountain trail.

-Chalk up our first win then- says Nevyn happily, as you near the entrance to the caves.

-Help!- Chame suddenly sends

-What's going on?- You send back, as you all freeze.

-There's giants attacking!- Chame sends. You get an image of three ice giants attacking Raid Rush in melee, as one stands back casting a spell. Fighting alongside Raid Rush is a human-sized figure in a long winter cloak.

-Big deal- responds Syphoebeus -We've almost won alr-
>>
-These aren't part of the quest!- Chame sends, her panic fuzzing the mental link -These are real!- You see an image of one clubbing a member of Raid Rush down, and then raising its foot to stamp down on the prone form.

“Well shit” Evrumine sums up your collective thoughts rather well.

Suddenly the Princess says in the voice of one of the Daves “Girls your teacher is helping us try to extend the quests anti-lethality spell to cover the giants, but its taking time, tell them to run if they can, anything to buy time.” Then she freezes, going still.

“What do we do?” Phaysis asks, looking at all of you.

“Kittrane teleports” says Syphoebeus “She's the only one that can get there in time.”

“We we're told to get Chame to run” objects Phaysis “We can't-”

“We were told to buy time” argues Syphoebeus “Kittrane can you take all of us?”

“Maybe” you say “I'm not sure, I used a lot of energy already, if I try and fail, that's it, I wipe myself out.”

“Phoebe and I are going” you say “everyone else get to the cave entrance, and, if its safe get back to the finish, if not, they stay in cover until I dunno, the Professor arrives or something.”

“But what-” Evrumine starts to ask

“No time!” you say, as Syphoebeus stands next to you, you start casting your spell, pouring all of your remaining energy into it.

In a flash of magic you appear outside in the snow.

Before you, you see two members of Raid Rush and the cloaked figuring trying to fight off two giants. One member of Raid Rush and one giant lay bleeding on the snow.

Another giant hangs back, casting a spell. Chame is next to the downed member of Raid Rush, trying to stop him bleeding to death.

The cloaked figure is moving much faster than a normal person should be able to, and every slash of his longsword against the giants legs elicits a snarl of pain. Clearly he has some sort of magic helping him.

The rear-most giant clearly thinks so too – he is casting his spell whilst glaring at the cloaked figure.

You and Syphoebeus appear a little off to the side, neither side in the battle have noticed you yet.

What do you do?

“I think he's dead!” Chame is wailing, still wearing her princess disguise.

-Heal him Phoebe- You send, as you rush the Mage. Syphoebeus runs towards the downed member of Raid Rush.

The Ice Giant Mage gets his spell off before you reach him, you don't know exactly what he cast, just some blue-white light or something, but out of the corner of your eye to see the cloaked guy falter and slow.

Still, casting his spell is the perfect distraction. You rush up behind him and slam your burning axe into the back of his knee, partially severing it.

Blood gushes forth and you can smell burning flesh as the giant mage bellows in agony.

The other two giants spare a glance, but are still dealing with the other members of Raid Rush and the cloaked guy.

You hear a squeal of outrage and sparing a glance you see Phoebe with a hand to her mouth and the formerly-down member of Raid Rush joining the fray.

-Talk to me- you send

-He, buh, puh?- Phoebe sends

-He kissed her- says Chame, sounding shocked, or amused, or both -He woke up, said something, kissed her and rushed into battle-

The two giants swing their clubs at the now four people fighting them. All of the smaller combatants are ducking and dodging, avoiding the giants attacks but unable to get close.

The Giant Mage pulls himself up into a sitting position and scowls at you, pulling forth weird-looking charm all covered in feathers and animal fur he starts casting another spell.

“Aaaaarh!” Phoebe bellows, lighting dancing around her like a halo, she's never looked so....amazing. She's giving the giants in combat a nasty look, or maybe its the barbarian who kissed her who who's about to get a shock?

What do you do?

As the giant tries to cast his spell you rush forwards and swing your axe into his face, sending him over backwards. You keep swinging, bringing your burning axe down again and again into his head until he stops struggling all that's left is an unrecognisable mass of burned flesh and bone.

You hear Phoebes yell rise in volume, until its drowned out by a far louder bellow. Looking up from your work you see the charred corpse of an ice giant topple to the floor, and you also see Syphoebeus collapse in exhaustion.

With the fight against the remaining giant now four-on-one two of the barbarians drop back, take out clay pots and hurl them at the giant. The pots break, spilling burning sticky liquid on the giant and it rolls in the snow trying to put the flames out. As it does so the cloaked figure rushes in and slices it across the throat, blood sprays everywhere.

XXX

You are Sallazar, wizard, teacher, and thoroughly pissed off!

You appear on the battlefield, having given up your attempt to help the Daves extend the non-lethality spell to cover the fight.

The last giant attempts to climb to its feet, only to topple over and lay still. In the distance you can hear bellowed voices. More giants are coming. You need to be gone.

“Is everyone ok?” you ask.

“I'm fine” responds Chame, still disguised as the Princess.

Syphoebeus gives you a shaky nod, barely able to stand.

Kittrane is breathing hard, and drenched in blood. She gives you a savage grin, well at least someone is enjoying themselves.

“Time to go” you say to Raid Rush “Elder Fireheart wants you back. Two of them give you curt nods. The one Syphoebeus saved pounds his chest and yells at the night sky, maybe he thinks this is the warriors afterlife or something.

“Sallazar” says the cloaked figure.

“Tellaric” you scowl

“Thank you-” Tellaric starts to say, you point your staff at him “Not another word” you say quietly “we'll talk later.”
>>
You cast your spell and all of you disappear, only to reappear next to the judge, safe away from the giants, for now at least. Another couple of spells and you've retrieved the rest of the girls from the caves too.

All of the girls are fine physically, though some are a little shaken up: Safire has a glow leaking out from under her clothes, and Nevyn has changed back to human form, but still has a long cat-like tail.

You focus on what's happening in front of you. Fireheart and his fellow teachers are having a 4-way argument with the judge, which is confusing, given that Bronk is still refusing to speak common. Something about the match result.

“Interrupted!” screeches the judge “no result means no result!”

“A rematch” starts Skald Yotzi, only to be shouted down by Bronk.

Elder Fireheart then punches Bronk in the face “Forfeit!” He bellows “We forfeit!”

In the silence that follows he strides over to Syphoebeus. Kneels before her, takes her hands in his, and kisses her palms, saying to the confused girl “you save one of my students, I am forever in your debt young lady, anything you want, iz yours.”

“You're welcome” says Syphoebeus awkwardly, seemingly unsure how to respond.

“Are you sure?” Skald Yotzi asks the Elder as he climbs to his feet.

“Very” he rumbles, as Bronk also picks himself up.

The Judge shrugs “Very well” he says “Raid Rush forfeits” Most of Raid Rush and their club give soft groans or resigned sighs.

The one Syphoebeus saved launches into a lengthy speech in some strange tongue. Syphoebeus looks to Elder Fireheart for an explanation. He says “Young Drakur thinks you are a very nice girl” he says “he vows to find a way to prove himself worthy of your favour.”

“Oh” says Syphoebeus, still looking tired “um, thanks?”
>>
“Well, I'm glad to see everything worked out” says Tellaric, looking shorter than he should, still hooded, because of course he is, his disguise was magical after all and it got removed with his other spells by the ice giant shamans dispel.

“Thank you for your help” he starts to move. You move faster and grab him by the collar “Don't you even dare” you whisper in his ear “you never could match my magic you selfish bitch, don't think you can skip out now, we are going to have words.”

“Nice to see you too Sally” comes the mocking whispered reply.

“Forfeit” says Kittrane, still caked in drying blood “is that...did we win?”

>>
>>41756603
>but focusing on the other girls isn't exclusive with continuing to organize matches for Fell Storm
It actually is, Pally can't write two dungeon runs at the same time, having a run means not having prep time and work time for Sallazar. It means making more magic items for Fel Storm and traveling around with them.

It is actually mutually exclusive.
>>
>>41756638

Off-screen dungeon.

Your argument is now invalid.
>>
>>41756650

>>41756693

Say, 20 threads from now, we have five different dungeon teams.

Are we really not going to have a single one of those teams run a dungeon off-screen?
>>
>>41756753
We will have at most 3 teams maybe 4 if we really stretch it.

And yes. Because there is no point them doing off-screen dungeon runs.
Because why would they?
>>
>>41756753
For the arguments sake that we do actually get five dungeons in a row.
They can't happen without Sallazar being there as clubs advisor, sending girls off would get us skellied.
>>
>>41756753
No, we have them do their dungeons in tandem. Because Sallazar needs to be there each time, and if the dungeon isn't interesting enough to show, then why would we do it at all?
>>
“We accept” you say “We accept the forfeit.” Elder Fireheart gives you an approving nod.

With that decided you and the other teachers see your students safely to bed, after checking them for injuries. You also make sure the local lord know that the ice giants are agitated, without specifying why.

More than a few of your students are sharing beds tonight, some of them have had a rough time.

You keep an eye on Tellaric, you're not letting him out of your sight. Finally, at one in the morning, with everything else dealt with, you drag him into your room for a private chat. After locking the door and warding it you turn to 'Tellaric' – who is removing her cloak.

Before you stands a stunningly beautiful blond woman, her aristocratic ancestry clear in her bearing and features. Her blue eyes sparkle as they gaze at you.

“Just like old times eh Sally?” She say playfully

“No, not like old times!” You point accusingly at her “you put my students in danger! What were you thinking?”

“I was thinking I didn't have many options” she says, taking a seat and pulling her boots off.

“So you thought you'd just lead the giants to the kids and hope things turn out ok?” You say “How unbelie- no, wait, how utterly believable that you would do something so selfish!”

“Sally you give me too much credit” she says, removing her tunic, wearing a white shirt underneath stained with sweat “I'm not all-seeing. I didn't know who they were, I just hoped the young men I saw escorting a young noble woman could help me.”

“Of course!” you say, throwing up your hands “so simple! Why didn't I-” You are interrupted as she kisses you, her arms going around your neck. After a long moment she pulls back, looking into your eyes from only inches away, the two of you are the same height, it was one of the many things you liked about her.
>>
“Did you really want the giants to have me?” she asks in a small, vulnerable voice. You don't believe it for a moment, she always loved to be in control of the situation.

“What were you doing out there?” you ask. She never does anything without a good reason.

“Is it really that important?” she asks, one hand trailing down to pull open her shirt, revealing the swell of her breastband “We have so much...catching up to do, and only a few short hours of darkness ahead of us.”

“Yes” you say firmly, staring into her eyes.

She sighs and backs away from you “part of the crown was in their hoard” she says.

“What crown?” you say suspiciously “The Wester crown is on the Kings head, or did it go missing?”

“The Wester crown isn't missing” she says, unbuttoning her breeches and sitting to remove them “but the Imperial Crown is.”

“You can't...wait, the Royal Sword of Wester” you say, things start to click into place “That was reforged from the pieces of the broken Imperial Sword.”

She tosses her breeches aside and removes her shirt, standing before you in just her underwear.

“Wester is traditionally ruled by men” she says “Any woman who wants to rule must have an unassailable claim. The King is weak, the Crown prince is a wastrel who is already up to his ears in gambling debts. Who will rule Wester then?”

“And after Wester?” You say “Will you be Empress Tellia?”

Princess Tellia gives you an unreadable look “If I have to be, to protect Wester” she says.
Then she leans in and says in a sultry voice “but right now I'd like to be just plain Tellia, the woman, not the princess. And I don't seem to have a room at the inn, can I share with you Sallazar?”

Can she?
