PREVIOUSLY ON CARQUEST

You're going to Scotland on holiday with your brother and your dad.
It's really late.
You found your brother's deep dark secret. He browses 4chan
You had a weird-ass dream that we will never mention again.
You vomited all over your brother's shoes.
You had a fight with your dad and crashed the car.
_Someone_ uncrashed the car?
_Someone_ unkilled your mom?
You rejected this, of course.
You returned to the scene of a year ago...
You fought _someone_ and crashed the car.
You returned to the present (?) and decided to lie low.
You exchanged SMS messages with your friend Katie about some serious shit.
You looked at a map and went instantly to sleep.
You had a possibly copyright-breaching nightmare.
You woke up...
And came face to face with a tank and a bunch of soldiers.
You persuaded the rest of the group to get out of the car and obey the soldiers' orders.
You set off a mysterious meter and had a strange gun pointed at you.
You called for help from _someone_, who started making the soldiers be _gone_...
And then _Someone_ got shot and killed?!? Yay?
Too bad your dad hates you now.
Also, you were all captured.
You might have fixed your relationship with your bro a little.
You are taken to a mysterious military base.
You were introduced to Colonel Summers.
You were told about Alice Summers and the Outsiders.
Summers suspects you (and he?) may be Outsiders now.
He attacks you to find out.
You reality-alter his henchman Jenners into having a conscience.
You escape Summers' mobile HQ through the window.
You fall and die instantl... oh.
_Someone_ uses the last of their power to save you.
You are warned about the cost of using your abilities.
You vow to end Summers' plan.
_Someone_ dies in your arms...

You wake up back to reality on top of a mouldy mattress someone (illegally) disposed of at the side of the road. You feel you would have been very badly off if the mattress wasn't there and you fell on to the rocks all around you.

Something has changed, but you're not sure what. There is a certain clarity about the world now, but you also feel terribly terribly alone.

You get up off the mattress. You don't actually hurt anywhere, so at first you assume you aren't wounded. Then you notice a gigantic swelling on your left arm.

You touch it carefully. It feels very hot. You can't move the fingers on that hand very well, and it's painful when you try. But you get the sense that it should hurt a lot more....

You remember _someone's_ warning: "The power has a price." You decide not to ignore it.

You take off your hoodie and tie it into a rudimentary sling, to immobilise that arm. Tying the knot with one hand is really awkward but you manage it.

Okay.

With that done, you walk away from the road. For some reason you are very sure the way to go. The ground out here slopes downwards, the trees soon thin out. At the edge of the treeline, you look down into some sort of structure. You note the road you were on snakes slowly down to it, but you can cut across the road on foot... probably.

The structure is _red_. In the distance you see the sky get lighter. The sun might be soon to rise.

You find a vantage point. From this angle, what you see is a circular wall of silvery metal plates. Some of these are retracted forming an entrance. Others are raised. The interior is brightly floodlit, and you see specks of red here and there.

You see in the middle a sort of cylinder going into the ground, with _red_ light coming from beneath. On top there is a smaller, round building. There are pipes coming out of this central building, leading to a some sort of storage tank on the outside of the enclosure.

You also see a sort of trench carved in the ground inside the enclosure. It leads towards the walls, and where it arrives you see the wall plates are a little wonky.

With a moment of hesistation, you then try and reach out with your _other senses_. For a while nothing happens, then a headache grows in your head...

A myriad of images. You see veins filled with red. The countless dead. Someone awaits in the core.

You see a glimmer of the worlds adjacent to this. In none of them this structure exists. And yet it feels slippery in your head. It is somehow, all of it alive and sleeping furiously.

In the not too distant past, someone forced their way out, and walked away from this place, just barely making it out. Now you're going in there.

You find yourself breathing hard. Something is missing about yourself. Without knowing, you've taken a couple of steps forwards.

In a daze you walk down to the storage tanks besides the wall of the enclosure. There is a thick _smell_ here, cloying and _sweet_.

There are two pipes here, each with a hatch for maintenance. Looking around you also see a toolbox full of complicated looking thingiemajigs. You also see a small tap at the base of one of the tanks.

Out of a strange sense of curiosity you open the tap. A _red_ liquid pours out on to your hands. It _itches_ where it touches you, and a buzzing feeling continues up your arm..

You decide that drinking would be a VERY BAD IDEA. Instead you crawl into the lower pipe.

The hatch closes behind you and it goes pitch black.

Fortunately Summers didn't confiscate your phone. While it doesn't have a signal, it does let you light your way - partially anyway, from holding on to it in your left hand. The result is that the journey down this pipe is only moderately horrific.

The _red_ stuff thickens gradually as you move through it. Your hand and legs _itch with increasing severity_. It is kinda driving you nuts, so you try and focus your thoughts elsewhere. Why are you doing this? (Choose all that apply)

> I guess I owe it to _Someone_. She was only trying to help and this was kinda my fault.

It is probably your imagination, but the fluid seems to respond to your thoughts. When you think of being safe, it thickens. When you think of Summers, it agitates. And when you think of _Someone_, it calms. But you pass through okay and it doesn't itch as much any more. The moment you think this is all going quite well, you hit a grille.

The noise of machinery quietens a bit.

_"Okay, continue."_

You walk into the next room.

_This is a bad place._

_The room is covered in red, from floor to ceiling. In the middle of it, you see a gigantic rotor, to which is attached a number of bright crimson blades. Red fluid flows down a hole in the floor, and further down you see more rotors and more blades still spinning and churning and throwing bits up into the next tier, to cut into ever smaller pieces._

_Then you see the bodies. As you look, they start turning into people you recognise._

None of this would've been this bad if we'd kept eyes closed from the start. Our perceptions have cut us off from our guide.

We're operating on fairy tale logic now, you have to always follow instructions or you're the Stupid Protagonist.

The voice didn't command us to close our eyes or anything, they just said that we -might- want to.

I think it was more "bro this shit is gonna be fucked yo" and less "you can't look back, orpheus".

You grope about blindly for what seems like an age before you find a ladder leading up. Climbing up with a broken arm and working the hatch on top is almost impossible, but you manage it. But only you manage it slowly.

The hatch shuts as you clamber out of the chamber.

You don't remember. The things, the dying things in there. They were insane. And they _took something_. You don't remember, you mustn't remember. And together with forgetting that, feel you've forgotten something very important.

(Any further use of your powers will involve you losing something. With something significant at two more uses.... Major uses will cause more side-effects, for minor uses, 50% chance of no effect.)

You hear noise beneath you. The _screams_ get louder, and then stop. The _voice_ returns to your head.

_"I'm so sorry! You looked but I didn't want to see, so... sorry for that."_

"Swearing is bad!"

The voice isn't in your head this time. Rather, it comes from a figure atop a staircase in the same room as you.

"Well, you're here!" The voice says.

Atop the staircase is a small girl. She sits in a wheelchair, one hand manacled to a _red_ chain attached to the curtain-covered wall. Her limbs are covered with bandages, and you don't see her right leg. She smiles at you.

You recognise her face from a certain photo you looked at just earlier. She looks younger than in the photo.

"Hello. I'm Alic... Subject One," she corrects herself. "Are you a friend of my brother's?"

She looks uncomfortable.

"Well, um, because I'm bad and stuff, other bad things come to try to find me as long as I'm hurting... sort of. B-but it isn't that bad."

"And um, also I help my brother make and test his tools, you know. For saving the world."

"And also sometimes I help us move house. Sort of?"

She looks apologetic. "I'm not very good at explaining things. I try my best though! So is my sister still so stubborn?"

"Oh! That sounds very nice, but I'm afraid I can't leave without permission..."

Failing that, you start to explain about her brother, but before you can say much, the door to the room opens, and the familiar figure of the Colonel walks through.

"You called for me?" he begins, and then he looks at you in startled surprise.

"Oh, hi, good thing you are here!" Alice points to you. "This is my new friend! She's um... oh I forgot to ask her name? What is your name again?"

_take_ Summers name.

Whatever this is... You don't have a clue how to do this, if you even can.

>>41762120
Your memory is full of holes. The further back you try to remember, the more vague it all becomes. You can remember only back to a few hours earlier, to sitting in the back of a car. Everything else feels so unreal.

You blurt out some words.

"Yes," Colonel Summers says. "We know each other well."

He draws his _red_ knife, and walks towards you.

(END OF SESSION)
>>
>>41762214
Sure, but she's asking for the sake of introducing us to her brother. So it's a way of trying to get around admitting that we can't remember our name.
>>
>>41762225
(I hope you enjoyed this session!

NEXT TIME: The final confrontation! Will we triumph?? Or will we die horribly? Will we recover our memory? Will we even retain any humanity whatsoever? WILL THERE BE CARS INVOLVED?

SEE YOU TOMORROW!)
>>
>>41762225
Well, okay then. Hopefully that's not the end for _what's her name_!
Though the fact that she's forgetting so much seems like she's losing her identity and previous sense-of-self. If so, then I guess it already is the end of her?

Regardless, thanks for the thread.

Oh, now I understand what
>you are still moving the rest of *you*.
meant.

"rest of you" doesn't mean "you" plural, as in, the Other Yous in the multiverse.

It means "the rest of yourself."

Your past, that is. The entirety of what makes you yourself.

Only this time, now you've lost your past. You left it behind in that other world.

Outsiders don't really have pasts, then. Not really. None of that to weigh them down. They're just on the move. Nomadic.

Do you actually believe this?

That QM didn't expect anon would try to refuse to go with the creepy colonel? Or earlier, try to reject the apparent brainwashing of the New Mom?
