/tg/ - Traditional Games

Your name is Shane Morris. You are a wizard. You've just arrived at King's Cross Station on your way to your second year at Hogwarts.

You find the secret pillar, line yourself up, and run through to platform 9 3/4.

The same bustle that you remember from last year envelopes the platform, but here and there are signs that something is different. People walk in more closely knit groups. There's a lot more sneering and heckling passing from one group to another. Aurors line the walls, here ostensibly to keep the peace.

Mr. Byrne and Ms. Siezewall aren't coming to see you off, not somewhere so public. So for the moment you are alone and already a number of people have noticed you.

You start looking around for someone you recognize. The first person you come across is far from the person you would have picked. It's Lom, your blood supremacist roommate, but he looks somehow different.

His clothes, which you remember being super sharp last year, are kind of tattered and faded, and he's carrying his trunk, which you usually cant do because they're so damn heavy. You don't see his pet owl anywhere.

The thing that really catches you is how he greets you.

“Hey.”

No snarky comment, no banging on about how much better he is, just, 'hey'.

“Hey, Lom. You okay?”

“Uh, yeah.” He says a bit too quickly. “Have you seen Robbie around?”

“No, you're the first person I've seen that I really recognized.”

“Ah, right then. You wanna go find a place on the train?”

“Uh, sure. You want a hand with your trunk?”

“Nah.” He shakes his small trunk around and you can tell from the sound that it's basically empty. “Traveling light this year.”

You have more questions, but Lom seems really intent on getting on the train. He practically pushes you on board and to a small compartment to the back, wedged between the bathrooms and a bulk luggage rack.

After you both put up your luggage he sits down across from you. He looks fidgety, but he keeps looking away like he doesn't want to talk.

You want to ask him what's up, but you don't feel comfortable doing it because he seems so distressed. Instead you say;

“I'm sorry I got you involved with this.”

He looks startled. “What?”

“I'm sorry for dragging you into this, I didn't know what it was going to be like.”

He leans forward and pulls you in close. “That night,” He whispers. “When I came to you. That wasn't you forcing anything on me. I did that, because I felt at the time it was the right thing to do.”

He leans back and goes back to staring at the wall.

After a few minutes of awkward silence the door slides open. Jenny is standing there, arm still in a sling, pulling her trunk along with one hand.

Lom jumps up, and you think he's going to leave. But instead he just offers to put away Jenny's luggage.

“Shane,” she says to you, as Lom puts away her trunk. “How was your summer?”

“Ah, it was... interesting.”

“Spill.”

Jenny is a bit of a gossip, and you imagine she'll want to know everything.

“Alright, but it all stays between us okay?”

“Okay. What about him?”

You look at Lom.

“I won't say anything.” He says, a bit self conciously.

You start to espouse on your summer at Mr. Byrne's manor. How you were learning spells, and what you learned about the Order of the White Marigold.

When you finish they both seem a bit impressed, if also a bit sad for how much your summer seems to have been spent doing what amounted to homework.

“Can you show us a spell then?” Jenny asks.

>roll 2d10

Posting the character sheet reminds me that you guys have an attribute point to spend. You can increase Power, Spirit, Finesse or Intelligence by one.

So without reading literally everything in the archive, I gather that our "protagonist" is being used as a tool to erode the rightful predominance of pureblooded wizardry.

/tg/, you disappoint me. I thought you of all boards would stand against this moral and societal degeneracy.
>>
>>41776322
Oi what kinda shit you chattin'? I'll glass ya, ya cheeky cunt, swear on me mum.
>>
You stand in the middle of the compartment, take up you stance, and throw out a shielding charm. A big blueish disk appears in front of you blocking up most of the compartment.

Jenny draws her wand and casts a few hexes just to test you.

“Wow, that's pretty cool. I mean, we'll be learning this this year anyway. But it might give a couple bullies a bit of a surprise before then.”

You spend the next few hours talking about Jenny's summer. Most of which was spent in and out of the hospital trying to fix her arm. She says that her arm is basically dead, and just still attached, which you find a bit gross, especially when she tells you that its starting to mummify.

You arrive at school. You still haven't seen Alex or Linus. Linus is probably just busy with all of his other friends, but you're worried Alex might have missed the train or something. You give a quick look around before being shunted off the platform by the angry groundskeeper.

You get to the carriages before anyone else. If you wanted to you could wait for Alex. He has to come by here.

>Wait for Alex
>Go with Jenny and Lom

I could. And I will if only two people are gonna vote. If we don't decide by the end of this thread it'll be the opening choice of the next thread. I don't want this to be another perk choice.

Also, it's obvious Lom has a crush on Jenny. Is it not our duty as a bro to give him a chance at a carriage with just him and her in it?
>>
hmm...

Power = Constitution: grants hp, Dodging, aids in Charms, Dark Arts, DADA, Transfiguration.

Spirit = extra perk and helps with divination, DADA, Persuasion.

Intelligence = faster research, bonus to test rolls, Alchemy, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Aritficing, Astronomy, Charms, Dark Arts, DADA, Herbology, History of magic, Magical creatures, Muggle Studies, Potions, Transfiguration, counterspelling.

Finesse = Initiative, Move speed, Defending (dodge or counterspell), CQC, Flying, Herbology, Potions.

with all this I'd say Intelligence
>>
>>41776644
Very Ravenclaw of you.

But this stat point was specifically gained via self-defence training over the holidays, no? It'd be thematically appropriate to advance our dodging and counterspelling with Finesse.
>>

>>
You decide to wait for Alex, you have a lot to tell him about the summer. Plus you feel like giving Lom some time alone with Jenny might make him calm down a little.

As the first carriages start to pull away you keep your eyes peeled on the crowd, looking for Alex. When you finally see him, he's not to hard to pick out. He's mixed in with Linus and the other mirror club crew.

You run over. “Alex!”

“Shane!” He runs over and gives you a hug. “How was your summer?”

You give him the short version, and tell him you can give him the rest later.

“Shane!” Linus calls out from behind Alex. “It's good to see you.”

“You too man.”

“I heard what happened. I'm sorry. If you need anything you can always ask.”

“Thanks.”

You climb into a carriage with Linus, Alex and whoever else can fit and head up to the castle.

When Linus is sure no one else can hear he asks; “So, you're living at an Order safe house. What's it like?”

"I miss some of the muggle niceties, though."
>>
“It's okay, a place to live. But I miss my family.”

“I'm sure. What you're going through... I can't even imagine.”

The ride to the castle by carriage is shorter than the ride by boat and you arrive before the sun has fully dipped below the horizon.

You shuffle into the great hall where the new students get sorted. You watch closely. Even after only spending a summer with the Order, you're already sizing them up. Everyone of them is a potential ally, or enemy, or, worst of all, a victim.

After that, Headmaster Ricimer gives a short speech about the school before transitioning into a different subject.

“After the retirement of the previous Headmaster we find ourselves down a teacher this year. So, to fill my spot as the potions master I would like you all to welcome Professor Igor Tranchet.”

A misshapen old man hobbles onto the stage with a cane. His back is bent and his face seems wrong, like it was drawn by a caricaturist.

“Good evening students.” He says in a burble. “I hope we will have an instructive year together.”

You hear whispering break out in parts of the hall. You'll have to ask about that later.

You finish dinner and head up to bed.

The next morning you have classes. And among your first is your Potions class with Professor Tranchet.

As you're walking down with the other Ravenclaws you ask; “Why was everyone whispering when Professor Tranchet addressed the school?”

More coming
>>
“There's a lot of reasons actually.” One of the half-blood Gryffindor students says. “For one he's like one of the greatest potions masters ever to live. A couple years ago he announced that he was a few decades at most away from figuring out the Philosipher's Stone. But...” That was a telling pause. “He's spent some time in Azkaban for illegal miss-use of magic. And aside from that he's half-goblin, so most of the purebloods are gonna hate him on principle.”

With that knowledge you walk into his class.

“Hello, class.” He says in a voice like bubbling tar. “Today we will be going over the Babbling Beverage, a potion which forces the drinker to babble incoherently.”

After a few minuets of instruction, you're put to work.

You manage to make the potion, and quite easily at that. All around you people are making mistakes and you feel a little bit of pride at making one of the only successful potions in class.

“Hmm, my, my.” Professor Trenchet says as you're all displaying your work. “Only the Ravenclaws have managed any potions. 20 points to Ravenclaw. Finish the potion for homework the rest of you.”

You come out of class with a bit of a kick in your step.

Your first month in school goes by quickly. There are a few close calls with some of the purebloods, and some even closer calls with some 'accidents' around the castle. You're learning a lot in class, but also brushing up on what spells you can in your freetime.

What exactly are you doing with your freetime?

You spend a lot of time with your Defense books and you're getting ahead of even the other Ravenclaws. You're really taking this safety thing seriously, and you're not sure what you're going to need when.

One morning at breakfast you're given another way.

Professor Morse ascends to the front of the hall and makes an announcement.

“This Friday I will be accepting applications for the dueling club. You must be at least a second year and upper years must be taking my class to take part. Please assemble on the Quidditch pitch at 5 pm. Only 6 applicants from each year will be accepted, be punctual.”

The wait for Friday isn't hard with all the work you try to cram in to be ready.

When the day comes, you, Alex, Linus, Jenny and some of the mirror club kids head down to the pitch.

You see Lom there looking around nervously and trying not to be seen by the Slytherins. You also see Dorner and Yates, two third year blood purists who tried to beat the shit out of you a couple times last year. They shoot you horrific grins.

Professor Morse comes out onto the pitch in full Auror gear. A big anti-spelled coat, two wand holsters at the hips, and probably more elsewhere, and leather and metal armor strewn about over vital areas.

“Lets get started.”

We can get spells that can knock people out and ransack their memories. Combine that with invisibility and teleportation, and we can capture ex-IRA and ISIS terrorists, mindrip them of all of their guerilla warfare, bomb-making, infantry tactics, and CQC knowledge.

So here's a thought vaguely relating to Jenny.
Does Padfoot exist in this 'verse, or did the pre-Grindlewald divergence prevent him from occurring? Is he still bro-tier and disowned?
>>
>>41782779
I kinda got the impression that Jenny's dad might be this universe's non-disowned equivalent to him. He seemed pretty cool with his daughter being saved by and befriending a muggleborn for a Black. Her "I was born" comment possibly hints at SOMETHING involving her parents as the reason she was targeted. Of course I'm half drunk, so I could be way off base here. But still, I feel like we should try and get more details from Jenny, and maybe a crash course in how Wizard nobility works.
>>
>>41783230
Also, guys, stop saying "Wizard IRA". Our goals don't involve creating a separate muggle born nation. We just want our civil rights, by any means necessary. It's the Wizard Black Panthers, and we're Wizard Huey P Newton. Need to design some sort of a Mud Power salute.
