You are Sergei Boystov, pilot of the experimental super-mech: RB-01 Cognis. You recently escaped from the city of Glesk after Anya made arrangements to sell th Cognis to the Zanvrans. You are now joined by the Nilam Sang: an agent of the Republic of Zanvra Intelligence Corps.

Now you must continue further south to the Republic of Zanvra where hopefully asylum and a really fat paycheck await you.

It's been a few days since you've left Glesk behind. The A.E.S.R Rep took his leave of your group on the outskirts of the city and you've been pushing south ever since.

Lev has constantly been by Anya's side, helping her get around ever since she sustained that leg wound, leaving you to pilot the Cognis alone. You wonder for moment if perhaps Lev seems a bit too concerned about the health of his former boss. Cynicism would say that he just wanted to make sure she was okay since she was the one with the money and connections, still...

You've made camp in an abandoned farm on the edge of a small forest not too far from the border with Aldite. For once you've had some time to catch your breath and take stock of the situation.

You find Agent Sang browsing the Cognis User manual, ever since she joined your party she'd been trying to learn as much about the Cognis as possible. You're not sure how you feel about that. On the one hand you were gonna sell it to the Zanvrans anyway, on the other you're not comfortable with your "client" knowing too much while the money isn't in your hands.

As far as you can tell Sang is a quiet type, she seems willing to go along with everyone else for now but you have no doubt she has an agenda of her own.

She looks up at you as you come along.

"Mr. Boystov, now that we've put some distance between ourselves and our pursuers, might I suggest we prepare a demonstration of the Skypiercer system? My superiors already have a target in mind."

>We need to make sure we have a bigger lead on whomever is following us. Once we shoot down a satellite we'll be drawing a lot of heat.
>Now's as good a time as any I suppose. Once we finish up here I'll see to it.
>That's a big move to make. I should consult with my associates first.

If Sang even notices your attempt to get friendly with her she ignores it.

"The target is one of the satellites that make up the IF's Bifrost comm network. I imagine that once we do something like that there will be a lot of angry people in the Assembly of Nations talking to each other about how angry they are. Eventually an IF 'Peace Keeping' task force will be dispatched to hunt us down, by which time we will be long gone."

>"IF 'Peace Keepers' are no joke. I'd rather we were closer to Zanvra before we try something like this."
>"Ha Ha, good point. The Cognis would be useless if it couldn't outmanoeuver a reaction force. We'll fire this bad boy once we're finished here."
>"I don't know, it's still a big risk. I should talk to Anya and Lev before we do this."

Just then you see Lev walking up to you.

"Uh Sergei we have a problem: we're running short on food. Anya wants you to go into the forest and see if you can find anything for us to eat."

"Like what?"

"I don't know, mushrooms, berries, shoot a deer or something."

"Alright Lev, if I'm not back by night fall start worrying. Sang, you're with me."

----------------

You head into the forest with an assault rifle while Sang uses Anya's revolver since it fires a bigger cartridge than your service pistol. Between the both of you, you should have enough fire power to take down any game you encounter.

You also went through basic survival training as part of your pilot's course so you have a rough idea of what's edible and what isn't.

"Sang, you know anything about foraging?"

"I'm afraid my wilderness survival skills are a bit rusty. I was trained mainly for urban operations."

"I see, well if you see anything that looks edible, just let me know."

"You enjoy your work Sang?"

She shrugs.

"Do you enjoy yours?"

"I betrayed my nation and stole a top secret super mech, what do you think?"

"Oh right."

"You didn't answer my question."

"I never really stopped to ponder such things. When I did my military service to the nation it was noted that I had certain aptitudes and I was offered a place in the intelligence corps. It was a great honour. My position also afforded me certain privileges, so I did my job and did not ask any more questions than necessary."

"Ha, sounds a lot like Surden Nevik, the whole not questioning things. Up there they don't like it when some one without royal blood takes too much initiative."

"It's different for you: your nobles are greedy and selfish, they care only for their own interests. Our party leader's have the nation's well being at heart, so it is only right we do our part with the conviction that they will make the best decisions."

"You sound like you want yourself to believe that more than you do me."

For the first time you see a look of doubt pass over Sang's inscrutable facade.

After a while you find what looks like a large bush growing out of the ground. You think you recognise this plant. You set your rifle aside and dig at the ground a bit with a utility knife. Eventually you uncover a patch of pale white flesh buried in the dirt.

It was as you thought: this was a mega turnip. The good news was it certainly met your meal requirements, the bad news was you had no way to dig it out of the ground.

Just then the ground starts to shake. Stomping through the forest you see a giga tortoise heading towards you. Great: mega fauna, you were kind of hoping to avoid those. You and Sang take cover behind a fallen log as the toroise stops infront of the turnip and starts clawing away at the dirt around it. As it reveals the main root of the plant it starts taking huge bites out of it.

There's 3 meter tall tortoise eating your turnip, what do?
>Just wait, maybe it won't eat the whole thing and there'll be something left.

This was going to be tricky. Even though you had a military grade assault rifle, the turtle's skin was thick enough to be resistant to the bullets and no way were you penetrating the shell. Also FMJ rounds wouldn't do enough damage to bring it down quickly unless they hit the right places.

"Sang I need you to distract it. Get it riled up and leave the rest to me."

Sang looks at you funny for a moment before nodding. You roll out from behind the log and lie prone facing the turtle while Sang walks towards it. The turtle looks up from it's meal, unsure of what to make of this strange interloper.

In a surprising outburst of emotion Sang starts screaming and flailing her arms around. The turtle recoils slightly, not what you wanted.

"I need it mad Sang!"

She stops making noise, pulls out her revolver and shoots it in the leg. The bullet fails to penetrate but leaves a large bruise. That did it, the turtle starts to make a threat display, extending it's head out from it's shell, hissing and snapping at Sang.

It was all you needed. After aiming carefully you empty the rifle's magazine into the roof of it's mouth shredding the brain. The giant reptile dies with a high pitched squeak.

Sang looks regretful.

"I can't say I'm happy about this, we won't even be able to butcher the entire carcass."

"Hey you still shot it."

"That's because I knew I couldn't really hurt it."

"An intelligence agent with a conscience, who would have thought."

"Hey! I just don't like killing animals okay. Humans, sure, animals, just... no."

"I take it back, that's precisely the kind of moral gymnastics I'd expect from a spy."

"Oh shut it Mr. 'I betrayed my nation and stole a top secret super mech'."

You both glare at each other for a few seconds before the irony finally sinks in and you start laughing. Sang looks exasperated, but your laughter is contagious and eventually she can't help but laugh a little as well.

The party eats very well that night. Between the turtle meat and the turnip flesh you are able to cook up a filling stew.

The team is in high spirits and you feel that the next morning would be a good time for some training in mech operations.

Who should we train?:
>Anya
>Lev
>Sang

What should we train them in? (roll 1d20)
>Operating Weapons (Better at shooting.)
>Electronic Warfare (Better at hacking.)
>Sensor Usage (Better at stealth detection and locking on.)
>Mech Piloting (Learn how to actually pilot the Cognis... just in case.)

NPC skills:

Lev:
>Co-piloting 101: can perform all tasks without modifiers.
>Sucks at personal firearms: negative modifier to using small arms
>Sucks at personal CQC: negative modifier to personal melee
>Basic Mech Maintenance: can perform simple repairs on mechs

Anya:
>Co-piloting 101: can perform all tasks without modifiers.
>Sucks at personal firearms: negative modifier to using small arms.
>Sucks at personal CQC: negative modifier to personal melee.
>Clout and Connections: Rich lady, knows useful people.

Sang:
>Sucks at weapons operation: negative modifier to firing mech weapons.
>Sensor Proficiency: +2 to lock ons and stealth detection.
>Electronic Warfare 101: No negative modifiers to hacking actions.
>Personal Firearms proficiency: +2 to small arms usage.
>Personal CQC 101: No negative modifiers to melee actions.
>Personal Stealth 101: No negative modifiers to personal stealthy actions.

Alright let's go with these.

You decide to take Lev aside and train him to pilot mechs, just in case. After a few hours of him stomping around the fields you think he's got the hang of it, sort of.

At your request Sang tries working on Anya's personal combat skills, but with Anya's injuries the kind of training she can do is limited.

When all is said and done you pack up camp prepare the Cognis for battle.

"Lev, let's load the De-orbiter. It's time to give Sang her demonstration."

((We'll end it here tonight guys. Next time: mwoar tactical skirmish action! I'll linger a bit for some Q&A. Everyone enjoying themselves so far? Sorry if some posts took awhile this time. Even though I had a general outline planned a lot of details were written off the cuff so to speak. Tenative date for the next session is Saturday, make sure you check the twitter.))

RANK UP! Lev now sucks at piloting mechs. (He can actually pilot one now, he's just not very good at it.)
RANK UP! Anya now no longer sucks at personal firearms.
RANK UP! Sergei's experiences have granted him +2 in personal firearms.
