Welcome to Academy City. The time is late morning, the weather is drizzling, and the date is January 17.

You are Kyril Torikov, Level 3 telekinetic ‘superhero’ and you were wondering if the day could get any worse. It probably could, given that you had a part in the unleashing of a flying fortress manned by hostile Code M. Oh and they were also Aztecs so you weren’t expecting a peaceful resolution either given their disposition and Etzali’s personal experience. Their current capability was to change the weather but who knows what else they could do. Thankfully Nayuta had had a plan. It involved using an orbital mass accelerator. While it would certainly kill them Aztecs dead it would probably also reshape whatever district it landed in. There weren’t any land-based guns big enough to do the job apparently. You disagreed. In a city filled with Ability Users there was at least one you could think of that could launch a projectile half the size of a car at supersonic speed. Her most well-known moniker was “Railgun” after all.

Though were you really going to approach her for help? You didn’t like dragging her in to your line of work. The last time you had asked you ended mostly dead and hopped up on so many painkillers afterwards you weren’t capable of thinking straight. On the other hand, you didn’t have to ask her yourself. Nayuta could certainly frame the request for you naturally and if she couldn’t, well you had a minion to pass a message along. She might not appreciate that kind of approach though so it was a question of whether you wanted to risk electroshock therapy or not. Failing that, well you were confident enough to throw that kind of mass around.

OP, if you're making a quest thread it's considered polite to put the word "quest" somewhere in the title so that those of us who don't want to see quests can do the right thing and filter them. In addition to being rude, evading the filter means that many of us who quite dislike quest threads in general must see your thread and filter it individually, which draws unnecessary negative attention to you, so nobody is happy in the end.
Please be more mindful in the future so that we can all share this board in harmony, OP.

The saying went, “if you wanted something done right then do it yourself.” Besides it was too earlier to pull Sparky out of classes. If you couldn’t destroy the Aztec contraption then you bribe her with a free lunch. Meanwhile, Etzali had finally managed to pin point your target. The meandering northward course was leading it to District 7. Your GPS automatically plotted an intercept.

“Nayuta, I’m going to need you to deliver the payload to these coordinates,” you told your boss.

“You really think highly of yourself don’t you nii-chan?” she replied with good cheer, “How about we meet here instead?”

The meeting point was further west. She had wanted to be on the safe side. At worst the projectile would land in the aerospace district, at best in Tokyo Bay. You weren’t sure if you could make it that far but you had to try. You had gotten to the meeting point at the same time Nayuta had. It was a vacant lot with a clear line of sight to the target.

“Phew that was heavy,” she set the projectile down with a thud.

It must have weighed at least a tonne and she had carried it on her shoulder. Nayuta also produced a folding chair from her backpack.

“Ready nii-chan?”

“As I’ll ever be.”

You sat down, contemplating how best to go about bringing down the beast. CADRE wouldn’t be of much help besides as a targeting aide. Both power and control was on you. You disengaged the limiter and lifted the projectile in the air. There was no strain on your part, the calculations were simple. Now you had to figure out the best way to hit it. Shooting in a straight line would guarantee a hit but you weren’t sure it would be enough. If you gradually ramped up the speed then you could apply more force but the target might see it coming and possibly evade. Given its current movement pattern CADRE calculated you had a 75% chance to hit if you chose to do so.

It was more like a lob really but you had to send the projectile up and let gravity give you a helping hand. The helmet allowed you to keep the projectile in sight despite the clouds above. It came back down and struck like thunder. The Code M contraption couldn’t have evaded. Not at the speed it was struck. Even the ground shuddered. Etzali confirmed the hit. The flying fortress was brought down alright and its subsequent impact with the ground had kicked up more than just dust. It had pulverized the concrete, carving a deep gash in the ground as it slid down the road by the forces involved.

“The survivors are up and running,” Etzali reported.

“Continue pursuit and stop them as best you can,” Nayuta commanded.

She then turned to you.

“Nice shot nii-chan. We’ll handle it from here.”

“We?”

“Well if you don’t want the rest of the day off I guess you could do some more damage control.”

“I could still at least hunt them down.”

“By the time you get over there they’d have either been dealt with or gone to ground so there’s not much else you can do besides secure the crash site. You might want to think of a good cover story to sell to the press while you’re at it.”

Well you thought that the rest of the day off sounded nice but then you didn’t really have an idea of what to do past lunch. That said, standing around waiting for the cleanup crew and dealing with the press didn’t sound like a fun time. You weren’t paid by the hour anyway.

The time is now lunch, the weather is still dreary, and the date remains unchanged.

“How’d you get my number anyway Aniki?” Sparky asked.

It was amazing how Asuka hadn’t taken the opportunity to join you but you suppose she was busy. You also didn’t want to answer that question since you most certainly did not look up her number through the City’s telecom services database.

“I have my ways,” you grinned.

She frowned at the evasion but let it go. Instead she looked towards where a plume of dust had once erupted.

“Anyway, what was with the small earthquake this morning?”

“I’m not sure I can tell you, can’t you just hack the databases for the reports?”

“Eh, security’s gone up, not that it would stop Uiharu since she was the one behind most of the changes,” she explained, “No thanks to our little sister.”

“Well I can admit that I was tempted to call you for help,” you had enough of the topic though, “How’s life otherwise?”

“Is that all you ask about?”

“If life’s treating you good then that’s fine by me.”

“Hah, I bet you’re the kind of guy that’ll scare off anyone remotely interested in me. Man how will I find a boyfriend at this rate?”

You assumed it was a joke. If you were wearing your helmet then CASIE would probably confirm it. It was also a reminder to talk to Etzali about this later if you could. Certainly rules had to be set after all.

“Ah, I don’t like that look.”

“What look?” you tried to affect innocence.

“Don’t take this the wrong way but you do look like a thug when you do that eyebrow thing.”

“What eyebrow thing?”

Unvoiced was the hopeful, “I have eyebrows?” Sparky made a face that had more in common with a Neanderthal. It was an exaggeration because you most assuredly did not look like that. Of course you deflected with,

“You free after school?”

The non sequitur almost caught her off guard.

“You’re not trying to set me up or anything?”

“Whatever gave you that idea?”

“Well it wasn’t hard to figure out, especially since I keep in touch with Touma.”

There were so many ways you could go with that statement.

“I guess I should disturb the two of you hmm?”

“It’s not like that,” she replied completely unflustered, “Besides I think he’s gone crazy, keeps saying he’s being chased by a fairy of all things. But yeah, coming back to your original question, yeah I’m free.”

“Good that’s means we can some arcades together later.”

That and you obviously needed to lower her guard around the topic of male companionship. She was much too guarded now. Besides it was a while since you’ve gone.

The time is now late afternoon, the weather has cleared up, and the date remains unchanged.

Your party had grown. It was a bit of a given that Asuka would learn of your rendezvous with Sparky and would thus accompany her junior. What you didn’t account for was the Slumlord. It must have slipped your mind that she also a connoisseur of the humble coin operated arcade. Along for the ride was her secretary, Kyousuke and also your good friend Sagara. With such varied interests in attendance there was a bit of a conflict on which genre of games was best for a bit of friendly competition. Obviously, Kyouko, and Kyousuke preferred the rhythm games and there was a rivalry you needed to settle. Asuka and Sagara preferred fighting games. That left you as the tiebreaker as Sparky had no preference whatsoever.

Well it was obvious what your preferences were. The benefits of tyranny by majority had you all playing one of the rhythm games.

“It is a fortunate thing that my adorable junior wears shorts underneath that skirt of hers,” Asuka commented.

“And I suppose you’ll be flashing every one with that fat ass of yours huh Kuso?” Kyouko didn’t hesitate.

She merely gestured towards where you and the boys were standing. On cue, Kyousuke spoke,

“Eh, not my type.”

“Besides she’s taken,” Sagara added.

“As her boyfriend I am obligated to defend her honour,” you said.

“Wow, she has you all whipped,” Sparky remarked.

“Not really,” Sagara denied, “I mean I haven’t been whipped but.”

“Dude, don’t bring up Budapest unless you wanted me to bring up Istanbul,” Kyousuke cut him off.

“Fine,” your best friend grimaced.

“Hey, hey, enough about who’s whose bitch,” Kyouko was getting impatient, “Who’s ready to get schooled for real?”

Asuke smirked, stepped up and gave a solid showing. Her excuse was that she was in a skirt. Sagara did worse. His excuse was that he was naturally disadvantaged. Of course you took the next round. You think Kyouko wasn’t all that when you managed to take the lead. Even out of practice, your coordination was just as good as you remembered. It was all going so well too until you drove your foot through the solid steel dance pad. Then Kyouko won.

“I’m the best,” Kyouko gloated, “Just the best.”

“Only through technicality,” you grumbled.

“Oh don’t be such a sore loser Pops. Maybe you’ll win next time.”

You really wanted to wipe that smug smile from her face. Really, you did, but the owner of the arcade had asked you to refrain from breaking any more machines. Sparky was thus suitably apprehensive of taking on the Slumlord in a dancing contest henceforth. That didn’t stop her from being thoroughly defeated though. With some reluctance, Sparky followed her elders back to Kyouko’s place. She had only agreed to come simply because the Slumlord had personally assured her that she didn’t serve alcohol at her place. Well you could always hit a bar later with the boys anyway. Dinner was surprisingly ramen. More specifically it was curry ramen.

“At the very least I cannot say that Wanko-chan’s repertoire has not grown,” Asuka remarked.

“This is actually pretty good,” Sparky admitted.

“You know what? You’re now my new best friend Sparky.”

“Thanks, I guess,” Sparky replied.

She wasn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect. A title like Slumlord didn’t inspire much confidence you supposed.

“And as your friend I have to warn ya’, don’t forget to return the arcade coins alright? The owners get pissed because they have to get new ones,” Kyouko continued.

“Worry not Wanko-chan I believe this is not the first time she has had this conversation.”

“What really?” Kyouko exclaimed.

Sparky hid her face with her hands.

“Yes, it must have been a sight to see her fellow Level 5 telling her off for committing such a heinous crime of removing arcade coins and not using them for their intended purpose,” Asuka turned to you, “You should ask your boss about it sometime dear.”

You wondered what Nayuta had to do with that. Kyouko ignored that last bit and asked Sparky,

“Hey can’t you use something else?”

“Keep in mind Wanko-chan that the destruction of legal tender is illegal as well,” Asuka lectured.

“Yeah I know, but can’t you like, use nails or something?”

“Purchases within the City are tracked. By using arcade tokens, she sidesteps the issue. Unfortunately, she is also the only one who uses arcade tokens as a flashy signature attack so unfortunately for her it is not the perfect crime.”

Sparky raised her finger was about to interrupt in indignation. Then she looked at you imploringly. The guys were wisely staying out of the conversation. You,

Of course you’d have her back. Even without CASIE you could tell she was pleased when you came to her defence,

Asuka gave you a questioning look before she spoke,

“Her attack destroys the coin if you have forgotten dear.”

“Better those tokens than actual money or something else,” you continued, “Cheaper than a car or a cleaning robot anyway. You can’t tell me that’s worse than anything we’ve done.”

She looked like she was simply humouring you. You weren’t able to call her out on it as she continued,

Asuka swung her head towards Sparky.

“Oh hell no! I got these with my hard-earned money,” the electromaster huffed.

No one bothered to comment on that last bit.

“Well I suppose that is how it is dear. Shall I make a note to acquire some for your birthday?”

“Hey, come to think of it, when is your birthday Pops?” Kyouko suddenly asked.

“June 17,” you answered, “and no, I think I’ll settle with pizza and maybe some cake for dessert.”

“I shall make a note of dear.”

Having shifted the conversation to less dangerous topics, Sagara finally decided to speak,

“Well speaking of birthdays Nakazawa’s coming up.”

“Really? What’s scoundrel been up to lately anyway?” you were honestly curious.

“Same as always really, still a teacher’s pet if you know what I mean,” Kyousuke answered.

Sparky didn’t follow. Kyouko took it a step further and asked,

“So he’s a PMS?”

“No, he’s not with Judgement,” you assured, “I checked. I guess he’s one year closer to actually tapping that huh?”

Sparky finally caught con.

“Huh? He plays card games?”

Kyouko still remained confused.

“What?”

Sparky was too flustered to answer. The rest of you were trying too hard to suppress your growing desire to laugh, or break down and answer her.

You stumbled out of the shower with a frown. It finally looked like the improvised spray paint that Nayuta had applied to your arms was finally wearing thin. You made a mental note to fix that later. Kyril Torikov’s prosthetics didn’t just change colour overnight. You moved the arms again, scrutinising the surface closer. No flaws as far as you could see. It moved just as naturally as you would have moved your arms. Foregoing your shirt for a moment you inspected the joints, wondering if they granted more degrees of freedom than what a real arm should. As expected, nothing. Then you remembered that the VERDICT OS was also in charge of its movement. Seating yourself first, you then turned off the Ability limiter and just like that your arms fell limp, one of your legs felt like it was being tugged too. Slowly, your conscious thought was occupied with moving your left arm. It was slow and it was jerky but you managed to move it fine enough. The forearm hung unnaturally, which answered your earlier question. Mentally, you pinned your arm in place and then devoted your attention to moving the rest of the limb. It was easy to do until you came to the fingers. Individually, they were fine but they were supposed to act in concert. It was a matter of practice then.

You hadn’t realised the time had flown by until you got a call from Nayuta. The baseball cap floated in to your waiting left hand. You placed it on your head then pulled the tab down, unfolding it in to a helmet.

“Kyril here,” you answered.

“Nii-chan I thought you were dead,” Nayuta didn’t look happy.

“I just turned off my limiter for a bit, did it really say I was dead?”

“I know your schedule and you don’t usually go dark for that long. Did something happen?”

“Just some practice,” you replied.

Your stomach gurgled. Realising you also skipped breakfast, you opened the fridge and pulled out a yogurt. That went to your right hand as spoon from a kitchen drawer floated in to your left.

“Well you don’t actually have work hours so I can’t dock your pay but at least report in if you’re going to stay home a bit,” she grumbled good-naturedly.

You nodded and in between spoonfuls of yogurt you told her,

“Just having breakfast, I’ll be right in boss.”

The call ended. You cleaned up. Your attention span was finite though. You had to consciously think, “raise left arm, move left arm, loosen fingers,” to actually drop the spoon off in the sink. While that was fine for everyday life, you were going to work and a distraction like could be career-ending.

Our luck can't be that bad. Touma is basically a walking bad luck magnet and even he doesn't get attacked leaving his room.

You liked to think you weren’t a paranoid person but even you could see it was probably not a good idea to walk around without the limiter on. For one you had yet to recreate the personal force field that CADME had, not that you had an idea of where to start. Until then the limiter was turned back on. Its days were numbered now.

The time is now after lunch, the weather is still rainy, and the date remains unchanged.

“Nii-chan,” Nayuta greeted, “Good, we’re all here.”

Indeed, Etzali was leaning against the wall whilst Kaoru was seated with a cut of chai in her hands.

“Right, first things first, how did things go on your end?” your superior asked the newbie Etzali, “Did you get all of them”

“I believe I did,” he replied, “And if any one slipped through my grasp then they must be exceptionally skilled.”

Somehow the statement was suspect. It seemed Nayuta agreed but it wasn’t like there was anything either of you could do about it now.

“That’s the best outcome we could all hope for, now there aren’t any more cases for the time being but we have another problem. The fuddy-duddies upstairs are convinced that our branch is the only one allowed inside School District 10 so we’re going to have to fly the flag a bit.”

“While I believe this will not upset Toshino-san, the both of you will be inciting violence from the residence,” Kaoru said, “As per the rules I voice my objection to this order.”

“Well you two are personal friends of the Slumlord right?” Nayuta asked rhetorically, “Then pick one of us to accompany you.”

The clock struck at the hour.

“I must return to classes,” Kaoru got up, “VERDICT, go ahead and choose your partner, I shall take the other when I return after school.”

With that she left.

“Well you heard her nii-chan, who are you going to pick?”

We can chat about the good old days. Like that one time we killed all his friends and he lost an arm.

Wait why would they let Etzali be the one to hunt them down? I thought we had other people on that and we couldn't have gotten there in time so how did he?
>>
>>41881824
He was the only Code M expert on scene at the time.
>>
>>41881824
he was the one keeping eye on our target and confirmed the hit. he was on site while we were long range artillery. also he has the most at stake as they were sent to hunt him down.

You honestly thought you wouldn’t be sharing an umbrella. Then again it made sense. You towered over Nayuta, being almost twice her height. It must have been quite a sight, or the start of a joke. A cyborg and a smaller cyborg walk in to the Strange.

“I’m not sure there’s a punch line for that nii-chan,” Nayuta answered.

Oops, must have thought aloud there.

“That’s not funny nii-chan,” she scolded.

Or mock scolded really. She was affecting the image of an indignant primary schooler, which on further reflection actually fit her physical appearance. It was easy to forget sometimes.

“Your brooding monologues could use some work.”

“Are you sure you’re not hacking the VERDICT OS to read my thoughts?” you asked.

“Nope, just a stab in the dark,” she genuinely smiled.

Thank goodness for that. You changed the subject,

“By the way, I heard a funny story before, was it true you tried to arrest the Railgun for using arcade tokens as projectiles?”

She appeared confused and tilted her head. It lasted only a second before her smile came back from her remembrance.

“I wasn’t arresting her for that. I was arresting her for damage to public property,” she explained, “Ah nii-chan, don’t tell me you’re going to start using them now are you? It’s a crime, definitely a crime!”

“As opposed to everything else I do?” you smiled back.

The two of you shared a laugh before an alert came through. It looked like the two of you weren’t going to be finished with the patrol any time soon. There was trouble brew in another district. With a nod, the two of you went to work.

Episode End.

Jailhouse rock. The descent in to a madhouse begins. Can you find the culprit? When writefag and /tg/ meet, the story begins.
I’ll stick around for some questions but I have to get started on fixing breakfast.

Who is in charge of imprisoning any code m that we capture?

Does Etzali still have a stump for an arm?
>>
>>41882059
What are Etzalis magical abilities/artifacts?

and a fraction of second after I hit the button

I realize I kinda botched the name in the archive

tags are right though

The description might be a little too similar to the last one

Fucking Aztecs was meant as "those fucking aztecs are a pain in the ass"

this one is more " hahaha! get fucked Aztecs!"
>>
>>41882059
I remember a while ago we had the option to take a needle as our weapon. Was that meant to be used with CADME or a melee weapon or what?
>>
>>41882458
Think Adam Jensen.
>>
>>41882475
Still don't know what you're talking about. I've hardly played any deus ex games
>>
>>41882126
I had left over pork steak and sauce. Toasted some bread and stuck it between them.

>>41882164
The Big Kahuna himself.

>>41882197
He has a normal looking arm. If you had chosen to patrol with Etzali you would know more.

>>41882221
Only his disguise and knife thing. As far as you know anyway.

>>41882458
You ever watched Guardians of the Galaxy? Less whistling is involved though.

I assumed it was like this.

That's what I thought. Can we still get one of those needles or something similar?
>>
>>41882568
Is there any chance for some more hardware or prosthetic upgrades?

and now I realize the description should have been something like "Eyebrows confirmed"

It's floating around somewhere on the black market. If only you had an in with that kind of crowd.

>>41882778
Of course, be the Adam Jensen that Adam Jensen didn't want to be.
>>
>>41882865
Could we get authorization to use code M artifacts and enchantments? It'd be cool to enchant our prosthetic arms somehow. The constant yellow glow might get annoying though.

How well known is VERDICT to the international magic community?
>>
Haha I just saw the "bitch named Etzali" entry in our equipment list. How scared of Kyril is he?
>>
>>41882915
Aside from us, and the enchanter, no one would really know unless it was obvious. I hadn't considered the possibilities before since I'm try to limit power levels a bit.

>>41883003
Necessarius is probably the only cabal that knows us well. Maybe Teacher's too but his isn't really a cabal in the traditional sense. Otherwise, they either know us as enemies or not at all.

>>41883086
I should probably fix that. He's very grateful he only lost an arm.
